Summary: Tango and Jimmy are the first ones out in Double Life. They talk for a bit, and Tango says some things he’s going to regret.
This is inspired by @cramblm! She made a comic a while back about these two, and I was (FINALLY) motivated to write something again :D
This is also part one of a two-part little story!! I’m not sure when part two will be up, but yeah! If you like this one, I hope you guys look forward to the next part!
CW: Team Ranchers angst, that’s about it
Word count: 1,203 words
===============================
Tango looks down at the server, floating above everything. He idly rubs his arm. He can almost still feel the phantom pains of the enderman ripping into Jimmy, and by association, himself.
Huh. So this is what it’s like.
It’s oddly peaceful. Obviously there's still chaos going on below him as the last of the server’s peace crumbles away, but this was… different. Tango had died before in these games of course, but never first. It’s weirdly calm. And lonely.
Tango then hears the sound of rustling fabric, and his heart aches. He doesn’t need to look to know who it is—no one else has perma-died yet. Tango doesn’t want to look; so, he stares forward. They float in silence for several minutes before Jimmy breaks the silence.
“Tango,” the half-avian starts, “I’m.. I’m really sorry. I didn’t mean-”
“You’re still here.” It’s less of a question and more of a statement.
Jimmy glances away and fiddles with the necklace he’s wearing. It matches the one Tango wears, given to him by Jimmy after the first session. “... Well, yeah. I.. I don’t want.. I, uh, didn’t-”
Tango cuts him off, his tone coming out harsher than he had intended. “Why are you still here?”
“.. I could ask you the same thing,” he responds quietly after a moment’s hesitation. He looks out at the server and then reaches for Tango’s hand. “C’mon, it’s rough to watch at the start sometimes, we should-”
Tango snatches his hand back, keeping it close to his chest. “We should what, Jimmy? We can’t do anything. We’re dead.”
“We can at least go somewhere that won’t see so much bloodshed.” Despite the tone Tango is taking with him, Jimmy’s own voice remains soft and patient. “We can go back to the ranch.” He sounds a little hopeful. Tango ignores it.
“And then what? Just wait around and welcome everyone as they die? Pretend that everything is fine and that we haven’t just come in dead last?” Tango’s tail flicks angrily back and forth, and the flames in his hair burn a little brighter. “There’s nothing we can do.”
Tango isn’t upset about coming in last. He’s never come close to winning before, and it’s never bothered him all that much. He doesn’t understand why he’s so angry all of a sudden. The blaze-hybrid hasn’t once looked away from the soon-to-be-destroyed landscape. He hasn’t once looked at Jimmy.
Tango releases a heavy sigh. “It’s over, Jimmy.”
They both know Tango is talking about more than just their time in the game.
Tango can almost sense Jimmy tense—can feel the faint panic and hurt spread in his own chest despite their link already being severed and fading. Maybe he just knows Jimmy that well. Maybe Tango doesn’t want to go through with this.
“.. What?? No, Tango, don’t- don’t say that..!” Jimmy raises his voice for the first time. “This isn’t-! I-it can’t be-!”
“It can be, and it is. We don’t know if something like this,” he gestures to the server in front of them, “will ever happen again, and if it does, I don’t see us teaming up again in the future.” What Tango fails to elaborate on is that he doesn’t think he’d be that lucky enough to have Jimmy on his team again.
Jimmy tries to reach for Tango again. “Please, don’t say that. We’re the Ranchers..!”
“NO! We’re not the Ranchers anymore!” Tango finally snaps his head in Jimmy’s direction, the flames in his hair and tail flickering and growing as his emotions do. “‘The Ranchers’ are gone! They were something that the psychos who created these games influenced and forced, and now they’re gone, Jimmy! That wasn't real!”
But, oh, how he wants this to be real. Somewhere along the way, Tango found himself catching feelings for the half-avian. Despite their situation, he always seemed to be so optimistic and confident. Even when the ranch was burned down and Tango lost it, Jimmy remained (mostly) level-headed and helped get Tango to calm down despite getting burnt by his flames. And yeah, if it had been anyone else he’d accidentally hurt, he would’ve felt bad, but it felt even worse because it was Jimmy. Jimmy, who always found a reason to smile. Jimmy, who always put up with everyone’s crap. Jimmy, who apologized to Tango when they found out they were bound despite Tango being the one to lose their first life and being the reason the two found out they were bound in the first place. Jimmy, who didn’t deserve this kind of fate but received it for a third time now.
Ah, so that’s why he’s angry. Because this cruel, sick game has done nothing but take from and torment this saint of a player.
And maybe that’s why he’d been partnered with Tango.
Because fire destroys everything it touches, and the expression on Jimmy’s face is proof of that.
Tango quickly looks away. He can’t bear to see the pain and betrayal in Jimmy’s eyes. “Just.. just go home, Jimmy.”
Jimmy’s voice wavers with one last attempt. “Tango, please-”
“Go,” his flames flare up once again, and even in death, their temperature rises. Tango’s arms are wrapped tightly around himself now.
Jimmy hesitates for another moment before floating off in the direction of their the ranch, leaving Tango alone like he’d requested. It isn’t until he’s sure that Jimmy’s gone that he slowly lowers to the ground, kneeling in the grass.
He carefully uncrosses his arms and touches the charm on his necklace, a feather carved from iron. It won’t melt with your flames Jimmy had once said, nervously beaming as he handed it over and showed his own charm to Tango (a flame, also carved from iron). Tango exhales shakily, tracing over the ridges on the pendant. He stays there for a long time, just staring at the pendant and desperately wishing that this wasn’t how things had turned out.
Tango doesn’t know how long he’s kneeling there when the second lightning strike sounds, indicating another two members have fallen. He takes a deep breath and hides the pendant beneath his shirt before getting up and floating in the direction of where he heard the lightning strike. Did it come from the Box..? Yeah, that sounds close enough.
As he makes his way over there, he risks a glance over to the ruined ranch and sees Jimmy sitting at their graves, leaning against Tango’s. Tango looks away quickly, but he stops, hesitating on continuing to the Box. At this point, his anger has subsided and has morphed to guilt and regret. He wants to go to Jimmy and apologize—to tell him he didn’t mean it, but would Jimmy take him back? Would he want to try for something that was genuinely real and not influenced by whoever put them into this mess? What would Tango even say to make up for what he said??
Tango decides to settle on the plan of giving them both some space. He needs to think about how he’s going to apologize, and, if the roles were reversed, he wouldn’t want to see Jimmy again so soon.
So he continues on his way, scared to give Jimmy and the ranch another glance.

Hope you guys enjoyed :) I worked on this instead of school work haha

Blackbird, Fly - One
Cowboy Gaz x mail order bride—only, not his. After exchanging letters for half a year with ranching man Hans König, you finally travel out west to marry him. You stand alone on a train platform, whole life in your hands, ready to promise yourself to a man you’ve yet to meet. masterlist ao3 next
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You step off the train carrying every one of your earthly possessions clutched in both hands. In one a carpetbag, only half-full, and in the other, a stack of letters tied together with string. A paltry summary of a very small life, you thought months ago, but today you only see how much room is left over where happiness might take root.
It began with an ad in the paper—Widowed Ranch Owner Seeking Tender Companionship—and a mailing address to a livestock town out in the west. Hans König described himself as Austrian, unusually tall, and fair lonesome in a big ranch house with no woman to make it a home. He’d immigrated to the United States as a child, married very young, had no children, and was forced to watch his first wife perish to consumption.
After two years of mourning, he said in the paper, he finally accepted that she would not want him to live and die alone. And thus, if there were any kind-hearted ladies willing to give an old widower a chance, he would promise to take very good care of him.
You’d replied as fast as you could get your hands on paper and pen. The fourth child and only daughter of a tobacco farmer, you hadn’t much else to occupy yourself with. And truly, you hadn’t expected anything to come of it. Proficient in the written word though you were, there was not much else to recommend you. You brought a tiny dowry, skill with a sewing needle, a general knowledge of plants, and mediocre cooking to the bargaining table; he was horse man tried and tested by the challenges of the frontier.
You were under no illusions that you were the most attractive candidate.
Still, you wrote your letter. Described yourself to him as honestly as you could—neither especially pretty nor particularly accomplished, but told by friends and family to be of gentle demeanor and useful intelligence. Forgave him preemptively if he never responded, and wished him the best of luck in his search for a wife.
You’d nearly fainted dead away when his response had arrived as immediately as the next mail wagon. Hans König had addressed you by name, as intimately as if he’d known you for years, and said,
I was very pleased to receive your letter, Miss, and am terribly excited to correspond with you in the future. Although you write that you cannot imagine yourself an appropriate wife for a man of my experience, I myself cannot imagine what more you must need to be such. While I will not do you the discourtesy of making any promises with only my first letter to you, I will tell you truly that I was glad of your introduction, and hope you will grant me the pleasure of knowing you further.
Your whole family had been so excited for his response that Pa had broken out his fiddle after dinner that night, rejoicing already that his little girl’s future was secure.
What followed was a whirlwind half year of romance over letters sent back and forth so fast that you kept running out of ink for your pen. When you’d related this problem to Hans, he’d sent not only an entire box of lampblack ink, but a new steel pen, blotter, and lap desk on which to write.
There is no greater misfortune I can imagine now than to lose the pleasure of your correspondence, he’d written.
Pa had cried that day. Your mother had drawn you close and kissed your hair, whispering a thankful prayer that her baby was going to be alright.
In every letter, Hans demonstrated himself to be a kind man, thoughtful and patient, and as the relationship between the two of you blossomed, you started to believe it yourself. You had long given up on the possibility of marriage, thinking yourself too old and plain by now to offer much to any man worth marrying.
Now you stand alone on a train platform, whole life in your hands, ready to promise yourself to a man you’ve yet to meet.
There are only a few people milling about the station for you to survey. The surest way to pick Hans out from a crowd, he’d written, was by height. He towered over most people, and expressed hope in an early letter that he would not dwarf you too much.
But as you look around, no one stands out above the rest. In fact, the people here aren’t much different than what you’re used to; their simple dress and slight grubbiness prove them to be working folk, the kind you’d expect in a town like this, stockyards visible from the station. Your kind of people—at least normally.
Anticipating this meeting, you’d put on the best dress you own, a light frock with little printed flowers all over it. Your hair is braided and pinned up as fashionably as you could manage early this morning, and you’d even dabbed a little rouge on your lips for the occasion. As far as you can tell you are the cleanest, best-dressed person in the vicinity, and you notice not a few people openly staring.
The thought would usually make you blanch, but right now you hope it will only help your would-be husband to catch sight of you. You still can’t find him—
“Mrs. König!”
You whip your head in the direction of the call. Relief trickles through you, soothing an anxiety you hadn’t wanted to acknowledge yet, and then you see that stepping onto the platform is the handsomest man you’ve ever laid eyes on.
Dark skin, warm as a summer’s day. Lips soft and full like a peach fresh-picked from the tree. A serious brow over serious eyes.
Strong and lean in build, with a loose, confident swagger in his step. He approaches, his large, long-fingered hands coming to rest on the buckle of his belt as comes to stand before you.
Tall, to be sure.
But not unusually tall.
This cowboy—profession evidenced by the worn state of his attire—is not your intended husband.
Something in you falls at that.
Swiftly you berate yourself for the betrayal. Your Hans is gentle, generous, kind. So what if this man before you is attractive? Marriages must be built on more, and Hans has already given you more. His looks shouldn’t—don’t—matter to you at all.
“Not as of yet,”you reply to the cowboy, “but soon. May I help you, sir?”
He fixes you with an intense gaze. Up close, you see thick, dark lashes framing even darker eyes—the color of which, you realize, is as black as fresh-turned soil.
The smell of humus fills your memory, powerfully earthy and fresh, such that you could be on your hands and knees with your face to the ground right now. You feel the phantom of it between your fingers; rich and cool, like at the start of the planting season before the rains. So dark and fine as to live between the grooves of your fingertips for days.
“I’m Kyle Garrick,” he says, pressing a hand to his chest. “I’m a wrangler for Hans König, miss. He sent me to meet you.”
You blink. The fantasy you’d dreamed up on the train ride—of seeing Hans across the platform, recognizing him instantly, and running into his arms—finally crumbles into dust.
“Oh,” you say.
Kyle Garrick frowns. “You’re disappointed.”
“No!” you exclaim immediately. “No, he must be such a busy man, I couldn’t expect him to drop everything for me.”
The cowboy sucks his lips between his teeth, studying you for a heartbeat, then—“He is busy. Mr. König is finishing preparations for your wedding this evening. That’s why he couldn’t come.”
What disappointment had begun to sprout in your stomach immediately strangles down to the root. Joy surges in your chest like birds taking flight.
“A wedding!”
You didn’t need a wedding, you’d written to him—you were so happy merely to marry him, you couldn’t possibly ask for more. All you needed, you told him, were his hands in yours, promising before God to be your husband for the rest of your lives. You’d meant it, too.
But an actual wedding!
“Biggest the town’s seen in years,” says Kyle Garrick. “Folks haven’t talked about anything else for weeks.”
“Oh!” Then suddenly you despair. “Oh, I’m not dressed at all for a wedding. If I’d known, I would’ve worked on this dress more, I would’ve put my hair up better!”
Kyle surprises you with sudden passion. “You look perfect. You’re the prettiest thing that’s ever come into this train station, miss. This town, even.”
“Oh,” you say again. You flush hot up into the roots of your hair. Embarrassed, you avert your gaze, looking down at his worn roper boots. “I’m not, really. But it’s kind of you to say.”
His hand touches yours, the one holding onto your carpetbag. When you look back up at him, his expression is gentler.
“Mr. König will agree with me,” he says, “I promise.” He eases the handle from your grasp. Up close, he has a comforting smell. Leather, and sweet hay, and campfire smoke.
“You think so?” you ask, tightening your grasp on the letters in your other hand.
He nods. “I do. Now come on—I brought a cart. Let me take you home.”

The way you had been toying with Javi all night had put him in a mood. You weren’t sure what had gotten into you- maybe it was the fact that Javi had just gotten his haircut and he decided to wear your favorite gray suit (the one that made him look so broad, it made it look like the seams of his jacket were hanging on for dear life). Not that Javi didn’t look handsome every damn day, but something about seeing him this particular morning before you left for work had you feeling absolutely feral.
Your boyfriend looked fucking hot.
And if those two things weren’t enough, the real cherry on top was that you couldn’t do anything about it until later that night after your weekly dinner at his dad’s. The two of you had met there separately after work, needing to stay late to finish grading some of the book reports your students had just turned in. As you walked in through the front door of the Peña ranch, you kicked off your shoes and made your way to the kitchen to find Javi, the sleeves of his dress shirt rolled halfway up his forearms, tie gone, and two more buttons that the usual amount already undone from around his neck, the golden glisten of his tanned chest peeking out through the opening of his shirt.
“Hey, Hermosa!” He beamed at your presence, pulling you in for a hug and a kiss that he could immediately sense was much more intense than your average after work greeting, especially in front of Chucho. “You have a good day at work, baby?” He smirked, raising an eyebrow at you.
“Hhhmm?” You responded, not hearing a single word that he had said, astounded that even after working a full day, this man somehow looked hotter than he did this morning. Honestly at this point, you really just hoped you weren’t drooling onto Chucho’s kitchen floor.
“I asked if you had a good day?” His grin now even bigger, the sneaking suspicion he had in the back of his mind now confirmed by the way you were ogling at him. He leaned back down, wrapping his hand around your waist, dangerously close to your ass, thinking he was going back in for a quick kiss on the cheek. To your delight, or better yet, torture, he nipped at your ear, rasping lowly against your neck.
“You keep undressing me with your eyes like that, I’m gonna make you cum so many times when we get home, you aren’t gonna be able to walk straight.”
It took everything in you not to audibly moan, his words making you shiver, feeling pathetic at how you could already start to feel the wet patch growing in your underwear from how desperately you needed him.
“You ready for dinner, kids?” Chucho asked from across the room, finishing setting the table. Thank God his question at least snapped some sense into you, having to physically shake your head to ground yourself back to reality.
“Looks great, Pops! I’m starving.” He headed over to the table, winking back at you before taking a seat at the table. Jesus Christ, this man was a menace.
It was safe to say that today was truly a first- you had never been so horny eating a plate of tamales, but you guessed there was a first time for everything. One of your hands was practically glued to Javi under the table- running your hand along his leg, tugging at the fabric of his dress pants, slowly creeping your way closer and closer up his thigh, and that wasn’t even taking into account the fact you you had been playing footsies with him from the moment you sat down.
As you said your goodbyes and thanked Chucho for the dinner (to be fair, he could have burnt it to a crisp and you would have been too distracted to care), and headed back to your cars, you were almost thankful you had to drive separately, because if you hadn’t, there was a strong probability you weren’t making it 10 feet down the driveway before crawling all over Javi.
You wasted no time running  up the stairs to your apartment, knowing that you had beat Javi home by just a few minutes, stripping yourself naked and hopping yourself into your bed to wait for him. Your heart raced as you heard the door open, Javi making his way directly to the bedroom, following the trail of clothes you had left for him.
“Oh, fuck me.” He groaned, walking in to find you spread out on the bed waiting for him, practically squirming in the sheets from how badly you needed him.
“Yeah, that’s the hope.” You raised an eyebrow at him as he crawled over the edge of the bed, gently nudging your knees open to reveal the slick pooling along your thighs. He chuckled to himself as he pushed up the sleeves of his shirt, taking two fingers, barely grazing through your folds, making you whimper.
“Jesus, hermosa. You’re so fucking wet. Haven’t even touched you yet and you’re fucking soaked. This all from thinking about me, pretty girl?” He mewled, the lust in his eyes growing as he watched you writhe under his touch.
“Mhmmmmmm.” You moaned, biting down on your lip, shaking your head frantically, unable to string words together to make a coherent sentence.
“Need you to use your words, baby. Tell me what you need.” He teased, the pressure of his fingers gently pushing against your sex, collecting your arousal, knowing exactly what you needed.
“I need you Javi, please I need you so bad. I’ve needed you all day, fuck, I want you to fuck me so bad. Please.” You begged, so worked up that Javi was barely touching you and you were already grabbing fistfuls of your bedsheets, trying to find any sort of release.
“So needy, hermosa…” He tutted, planting a soft kiss on your inner thigh before leaning his body over yours, pressing a hot, wet kiss against your neck, nipping at your pulse point. He grabbed your wrists draped by your sides, bringing them above your head, easily holding them down in place in the width of his large palm. “But sometimes needy girls have to be patient, don’t they? I’ll fuck you, hermosa, don’t you worry, but not until I make you cum as many times as I want first.” The way he growled his words sent a shiver down your spine as he made his way back down your body, kissing every inch of you before finding himself nestled between your legs, face to face with your dripping heat.
If there was one thing that Javier Peña was, it was that he was a man true to his word. He had already made you cum 3 times with just his tongue alone, and he had no intentions of easing up anytime soon. He had let you come down from your third high, grinning up at your blissed out face, his mustache covered in your slick. Your cunt was aching from clenching around nothing, desperate to have something, anything, fill the throbbing. “Javi pleaseee…” you whimpered, “please, I need you inside me.”
“Such a good girl, asking so nicely. Give me one more with my fingers and then I’ll let you cum all over my cock. Think you can do that, sweet girl?”
You nodded feverishly, Javi satisfied with your answer, diving his head back down between your thighs, licking a flat, broad strip against your throbbing bundle of nerves as he pushed his two, thick fingers into your pussy, the fullness making you whimper, reaching down to run your hand through Javi’s hair, tugging at the ends of his dark brown locks. Even after 3 orgasms, Javi was still relentless, lapping you up like a man starved. The way he was licking and sucking at your throbbing bundle of nerves, on top of the width of his digits now pulsing in and out of your heat had you practically sobbing in pleasure, the base already building at the base of your spine, so worked up, you knew it wouldn’t take much to have you falling apart again. Javi licked in long broad strokes before pushing his fingers even deeper, now so far in your heat the base of his knuckles were bumping against your entrance. Without even thrusting his hand in and out, he curled his fingers, stroking against the you g-spot, punching into that soft spongy spot that made the coil start to build in your belly. But something about the way the arousal was beginning to build in you felt different than normal- it was throbbing, intense, a pressure collecting inside your cunt and you couldn’t quite describe, but enough to make you tug hard enough on Javi’s hair for him to lift his head while continuing the pulsing of his fingers.
He looked up at you, your face a mixture of confusion and pleasure as you fisted at the bedsheets, gulping as you moaned. “Javi… oh shit, fuck, baby what the fuck I feel like I’m gonna cum but I feel like I gonna pee too, fuck, fuck, fuck.” Your words made Javi’s smirk turn into a devilish grin, now taking his free hand, draping it across your stomach, gently pressing the palm of his hand into your pelvis, only intensifying the pressure building inside you, making you gasp, knowing how close you were to your release.
“It’s okay, pretty girl. Let go for me baby.” You wanted to fight back, tell him to stop out of fear of what you thought was going to happen, but with only a few more thrusts of his fingers, something inside you snapped, pleasure flooding through your body, making you scream Javi’s name as you could feel yourself cuming. But something about the sensation felt different than normal. Your cunt clenched so around his fingers, your orgasm sending shockwaves through your body, practically making you see stars you were cuming so hard. Suddenly, you felt yourself absolutely gush around Javi’s hand as he pulled out, spraying his stomach with your slick, drenching his shirt. You could feel the wetness dripping down your legs as you finally came to after hitting your high, your face now beet red in embarrassment now realizing what you had just done. You buried your face in your hands after seeing how you had soaked his shirt and the sheets below you, unable to even bring yourself to look at Javi, absolutely mortified.
“Oh, fuck.” He mewled, jaw hanging half open in a boyish grin as he stared down at the mess you had made.
“Javi… Oh my god… I’m so sorry- I- I didn’t know that was gonna happen, oh Jesus Christ, I’m so sorry, I’ve never done that before, I had no idea-” Your voice was barely above a whisper, practically on the verge of tears as Javi pulled your hands off your face, forcing you to look at the shock and delight on his smirking face.
“Do it again.”

For the prompts:
Eepy time for eepy Time? Time getting pillow piled? Heck, Time getting cuddle piled? Big brother Everyone? Baby brother Time?
Adventuring was such a strange mix of emotions.
When Time had been little, the thought of adventure had consumed him. He'd wanted to go explore the Lost Woods, he'd wanted to fight monsters and find his fairy companion. After his journey and fight against Ganondorf, adventuring was all he had left.
But once he'd settled with Malon... adventuring still had its pull on him, and he enjoyed it. Truly, he did. And it was an honor to fight for others and protect everyone.
But by heaven did he miss just being home.
It usually took about three days for it to really hit him. He was still a victim of the excitement of setting out for somewhere new, after all, and so the first day or so he would be fine with his new journey. But by the third or fourth day, he'd miss the warmth of his bed, the embrace of his wife, the sound of her singing, the laughter from his father-in-law, the purring of the barn cat, the sound of hooves and mooing and neighing. He missed all of it.
He missed the company. He missed his family.
This journey was a little different, he supposed. He'd never had so many traveling companions, and one of them was family. But he was in charge here, and he had to keep them all safe. It didn't quite hold the same comfort to it.
Yawning, Time stretched and tried not to think about it too much. They'd just left Lon Lon Ranch a few days ago, so he knew the ache was hitting him, but he had to focus.
It was hard to focus when he was so tired, though.
Time huffed somewhat irritably. He was certain he wouldn't have felt this drained when he was younger. Then he huffed again. It wasn't like he was that old. Not physically, at least. He just felt old sometimes.
Time yawned again and scowled at himself for the gesture. Stop that.
"Old man, I think you need a nap."
The words were good natured coming from Wild, but Hyrule snickered, elbowing Legend and commenting that Time truly was old. The eldest Link huffed a little, amused and mildly annoyed, but he just waved a dismissive hand. "Probably so. Let's set up camp, though."
He let Warriors delegate tasks to the group, assisting Wind with gathering firewood. When the little sailor tried to carry more wood than his infinitely larger and stronger predecessor, it didn't go unnoticed.
Honestly. Being older didn't make him decrepit, for Farore's sake. The gesture was sweet and endearing, but slightly exasperating. When Hyrule joined them and Wind very helpfully pointed out that their leader was tired and they should carry most of the wood, Time finally just picked up both heroes, wood piles and all, by the back of their tunics, letting them squirm and wiggle as they protested their predicament.
Twilight laughed as the three reentered the camp. The gauntlets Time wore made the boys' weight essentially nothing, but he still felt even more drained nonetheless.
This was definitely just him being homesick. That and the fact that the hadn't slept well the last few nights.
Well. Probably that more than anything. But he did miss home.
Time glanced at Twilight, smiling at him as the rancher corralled the now grumpy Wind and still cackling Hyrule towards the fire pit Four had made. He could hear Malon's laughter in the man's own, and it warmed his heart.
And then he yawned again.
All right, this is just ridiculous.
Giving up, Time waved off Wild's question about dinner, heading for a corner to unpack his sleeping gear and take off his armor. He noticed Sky had already nodded off, having been in the process of unpacking his own things and just slumped over them instead. How that boy was ever comfortable in any of the places he passed out was beyond Time.
Oh, to be young, he supposed. He could curl up anywhere in his youth and wake up fine. Nowadays if he sneezed wrong he'd pop something.
Well. Youth was fleeting, and time was cruel. There was no point lingering on the matter.
Time plopped down next to Sky, unfolding his bed roll. The boy didn't stir, snoring lightly into his own bedroll that was halfway pulled out of his adventure pouch. The elder Link felt a twinge of sympathy for the exhausted teenager, opting to help get the boy's blankets unpacked so he could rest in a more comfortable position. That would imply he had to wake him up, though.
Well, maybe he should just leave him be. Sky's sleeping habits were all over the place, but the boy made do well enough.
Time yawned for what felt like the hundredth time that day, and he carefully removed his armor. Rubbing his face, he pinched the bridge of his nose, just standing there a moment and trying to muster up the energy to unpack everything. Honestly, he was fine just sleeping on the ground at this point.
He heard movement, and he glanced over to see Sky awake, groggily unpacking Time's sleeping items instead of his own.
"Sky," Time called softly, trying not to laugh at the addled teenager. "Wrong bag."
Sky paused, confused a moment, and then laughed, shaking his head. "No, no, I meant to. You look tired. I just... wanted to help a little. I promise I didn't go through your stuff, your mat is beside you bag."
Time stared at him a moment, and Sky halfheartedly backed away a little, misreading the man's naturally stern gaze. The elder hero was about to reply when Warriors walked up behind them, chuckling.
"Sky, you're such a mother hen," the captain commented. "I'm pretty sure the old man can do it himself. But I brought you both some water since you didn't refill your supply."
It was amazing how little escaped the captain's notice. Time gratefully took the water skin provided to him, settling on the ground beside Sky, who relaxed a little at the proximity.
Twilight joined them soon after. "You okay?"
"I'm fine," Time answered. Honestly, while Warriors kept tabs of everyone in a more tactical manner, Twilight was far fussier. It reminded him of Malon again, and he felt his heart both ache and soften. "Just a little tired."
Wind skipped over, plopping his own supplies down beside Time. "You're not sick, are you? I feel like you're not usually this sleepy."
Time sighed. All this attention was getting to be too much, but it was endearing nonetheless.
Legend wandered over silently, settling close by and pulling out some mending project he'd been working on. It looked like Four's undershirt - it probably was, as the boy had torn it in the skirmish they'd had yesterday.
"I wonder if we'll see Wolfie," Hyrule noted as he made his way over to the group, still armed. "I kind of miss him. He was good at alerting about danger."
"I still wish I could hug him," Wind grumbled. "He's so soft, but he's so grumpy!"
"He's not grumpy," Twilight huffed, and Time laughed. "He just doesn't like being coddled. He's a wolf, not a puppy."
It was probably the sleepiness, but Time found himself overly sentimental. "There's always a little bit of pup left."
Twilight watched him a moment, annoyance gone, eyes a little wide with gentle surprise. He softened slowly, making his way over to Time and sitting down beside him. Time was distracted, watching his descendant, and he missed that Warriors and Sky finished setting up his sleeping arrangements until the captain started walking back towards the fire. Time turned to thank Sky, at least, and found the young knight already passed out over his partly unpacked roll once more.
How...? Time shook his head, outright laughing quietly at the kid's antics, and elbowed Twilight. "Help that poor boy, will you?"
Twilight laughed too, nudging Sky gently. Wild came next, a bowl of warm stew in hand, quietly but earnestly waiting for Time's approval as he ate it. When Time gave him a warm smile and nodded his head, the cook brightened immensely, heading back to get another bowl.
Dinner was usually spent around the campfire, but this time all the boys meandered to Time's corner. The conversations were quiet, and it took a solid hour to convince Hyrule to finally put his sword down, but eventually Time found himself unable to keep his eyes open. Sky leaned against him, steadily falling asleep, and it was somehow the last little push his body needed to shut down.
Time awoke in the middle of the night, neck aching a little from leaning against the tree as he was, his head plopped over Sky's. He couldn't escape his predicament, though, as he found himself completely surrounded. Wind was using his legs as a pillow alongside Four, Twilight was in wolf form curled up on his left side with Wild snuggled in his fur, Hyrule had settled a step away from the others, curled around his sheathed blade, Legend was at his back, eye mask on and snoring, hand ghosting against Time's tunic.
Warriors sat across from him, eyes alert and sparkling in the firelight. When they locked eyes, the captain gave a little smile and a nod.
Time sighed, smiling in return, heart warm. Perhaps he wasn't quite so homesick anymore.

tennessee whiskey- c. sturniolo
Tumblr media
pairing: chris sturniolo x countrygirl!reader
summary: working at a bar in texas to make some extra money for college is far from interesting, with you mostly serving drunk college kids and random middle-aged men. however, one night a certain set of triplets walk into the bar, and one of them in particular catches your eye.
warnings: cursing, alcohol use, use of nicknames (playboy, cowgirl, baby)
masterlist
lowercase intended
working at a bar has it's fair share of ups and downs. sure, you get hit on by creepy men and desperate frat guys, but it pays well and you get free drinks.
you began working at the crown and anchor pub for the past two years, since you got to college at the university of texas. you honestly enjoy your job. your coworkers are nice enough and the patrons aren't awful, many of them being fellow college students.
you grew up in about thirty minutes out of austin on a ranch filled with horses, pigs, cows, chickens, and basically every farm animal. it's not like you're not used to the city, but if you're being honest, you much prefer the quiet and serene rural areas to the busy and bustling cities.
when you moved to austin permanently for college, it was a little bit of a culture shock. you were used to rodeos and horseback riding instead of large buildings and loud concerts. but after a while, you began to adjust. you started going out more, making friends, and, of course, getting a job at the bar that sits right on the corner of the university of texas.
tonight is relatively the same to all the previous ones. you're in your work outfit which consists of a black tank top and short denim shorts with your cowboy boots. you've been pouring drinks all night, and occasionally turning down random frat boys. suddenly, you see three identical guys sit down at your side of the bar. you immediately take notice of one of them. he's the only one with no tattoos and noticeably longer hair which is covered by a light blue backwards baseball cap.
you allow yourself to admire him for a few seconds before walking over to the three boys, "hi, welcome in. can i get you boys something to drink?" the triplets look up at you, chris immediately looking you up and down. "what would you recommend?" nick asks. "well depends what you're looking for. you want a beer? dark liquor? something fruity?" you reply. chris takes a second and scans the brands of beer lined up behind you. "i'll take a michelob ultra please." you nod and grab a pint glass, going over to the tab and pouring the beer into it. you set it down in front of him before looking over at the other two triplets. "umm can i get a tequila sunrise?" nick requests with a small smile on his face. "of course." you look to matt. "i'll just have a coke please." you then begin to prepare both the boys' drinks before setting them in front of them. "anything else i can get you guys?" you inquire. chris looks you up and down once again before responding, "yeah i was wondering if i could get your name?" he smirks at you. "y/n." you say. “pretty name. i’m chris.” he responds. “thanks. it’s nice to meet you chris.” you give him a small smile. before chris can say anything else, another patron at the bar signals for you to refill his beer. you turn back to chris, “excuse me.” you walk over to the man and grab his glass, refilling it. even after you’ve walked away, chris’ eyes never leave your figure. there’s just something so entrancing about you. “you’re staring.” his thoughts are broken by nick’s voice to his left. “what? no i’m not.” he tries to deny, but his older brother knows better than to believe it. “uh huh, sure.” he takes a sip of his drink. “dude, just ask for her number or something.” matt chimes in. “yeah don’t be a pussy. just ask her out. it’s not hard.” chris just rolls his eyes. “when’s the last time you’ve been on a date nick? like three years ago?” “shut up.”
after about ten minutes of the triplets arguing over whether or not chris should ask you out, you walk back over to the triplets to check on them and talk to chris “how are you guys doing over here?” chris’ head immediately shoots up at the sound of your voice. before he can speak, nick does. “we’re doing great, but my brother has something to ask you.” chris’ eyes widen as nick and matt give him a sly smile. you raise an eyebrow as chris turns his head back to you. “well then ask away.” he’s silent for a few seconds “what time do you get off?” “i get off at 9:30. why do you ask?” chris’ confidence slowly begins to make a reappearance when he asks, “i was wondering if you wanted to do something. with me.” you tilt your head slightly, “you wanna take me out on a date, playboy?” a smirk slowly appears on his face, “yeah. i wanna take you out on a date if you’ll let me.” you ponder it for a few seconds. “i guess i’ll see you at 9:30 then, playboy.” you say before walking away to tend to other people at the bar. nick sends him a small smirk and drinks his tequila sunrise. “see? that wasn’t so hard.” “nick, seriously, shut the fuck up.”
soon enough, 9:30 rolls around and you’ve been cleaning glasses and wiping down the bar for the past half hour. you quickly go into the back to clock out and grab your bag before going back to the front to meet chris. “you ready to go, playboy?” he nods, “lead the way, y/n.” you exit the bar and walk towards your truck in the parking lot, chris trailing behind you. “so where are we going?” he asks curiously. “you’ll see” you respond as you climb into the drivers seat. “you’re really just not gonna tell me?” “i said you’ll see. it’ll be worth it.” you begin to drive out from the parking lot onto the street.
as you’re driving, you speak up, “so where are you from? it’s obvious you’re not from around here.” chris turns to face you with a raised eyebrow, “you could tell, huh?” you nod, “yeah. i’m good at that.” he gives you a small smirk “well, me and my brothers live in la, but we’re originally from boston. what about you?” “i grew up around here actually. on a ranch.” his eyebrows shoot up. “really? a ranch? so you have like animals?” you nod, “yep. every farm animal you can think of, we have it.” “i’ll have to see it sometime.” you shoot him a smirk, “how about now?” you ask as you pull into the driveway of your family’s ranch. “you’re gonna show me your animals?” you park the truck as you shut off the engine, “well, most of them are probably asleep right now, but i can show you my horses if you’re up for it.” chris nods, “yeah let’s go.” he opens the door and gets out and you follow suit, locking the truck as you walk towards the side of the house.
you lead him over to the stables and open the door, revealing two horses. “whoa. are they both yours?” he asks with wide eyes. “this is maverick and that's goose. maverick’s mine and goose is my sister’s.” you tell him, walking over to maverick and petting him. “when i was younger, me and maverick used to participate in rodeos together.” you smile fondly at the memories of you riding maverick in an arena. “so you’re like a real cowgirl then?” he asks, admiring the way you tend to your horses. “i guess i am.” you give him a soft smile, which he returns. “there’s more to you than meets the eye, cowgirl.” he says softly. “same to you, playboy.” you respond. “you keep calling me that. why?” you shrug, “i don’t know it just suits you.” he chuckles, “whatever you say cowgirl.” you playfully roll your eyes at the nickname. “you wanna pet him? he’s real sweet.” you offer as chris takes a step towards maverick. he slowly brings his hand up and begins to pet the horse. “he is sweet.” “i know. i’ve had him since i was 13.” he looks over at you, “so he’s basically your baby, huh?” you smile slightly, “yeah he is.”
after a few minutes, the two of you decide to head back to your apartment. the drive back is peaceful with the two of you making casual conversation by talking about your families, your goals, and anything you could think of. after about thirty minutes of driving, you pull into the parking garage of your apartment complex. you put your truck in park and step out, heading towards the elevator then to your front door.
the two of you enter your cozy apartment and you set your bag and keys down on the kitchen counter. “this is a nice place. very homey.” you shrug, “it’s not much, but it’s alright. it’s what i can afford.” you walk into the living room and chris follows you, sitting himself down on your couch. “you want a drink or something?” you ask as you turn on your tv. “sure. i’ll take whatever you got.” “you got it. i’ll be right back.” before you go, you open spotify on your tv and click on a random playlist and press shuffle, the song ‘tennessee whiskey’ by chris stapleton softly coming through the speakers. you walk into the kitchen and begin to make some drinks for you and chris when suddenly, you feel two arms wrap around your waist. the two of you begin to sway slowly to the music. you turn around and wrap your arms around his neck as his hands fall to your hips. “you have a good taste in music, cowgirl.” he says. “you don’t strike me as the type to like country music.” “i don’t but i might make an exception for this song. after all, you introduced me to it.” he smiles as he leans in to press his forehead against yours. “am i already making that big of an impact on you, playboy?” you tease. “baby, you’ve had an impact on me since i laid eyes on you in that bar a few hours ago.” his words make you smile. “yeah?” chris smiles back at you as he leans in closer, “yeah” he confirms before closing the gap in between you. the kiss is soft and sweet and you can taste the faint remnants of beer on his lips. his tongue then darts out, running along your bottom lip. you open your mouth slightly, letting your tongues dance together. your hands move to his hair and you give a small tug, a soft groan escaping his lips as his hands run along your waist. after a couple seconds, he pulls away, his lips slightly red and swollen. “you mind if i stay the night?” “as long as you promise to not ditch me in the morning, playboy.” you say. “oh cowgirl, after tonight, i’m never letting you go.” he then crashes his lips to yours once again before picking you up and wrapping your legs around his waist. he begins to carry you into your bedroom, the drinks long forgotten.

Twst cowboy/western AU
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Omg ok so I have so many thoughts here we goooo!!!
Tw: western Au! Mental illness, guns and gangs, I think that's it- this is a pretty wholesome au soooo
New tags! Town of Night Raven, twisted western, twst western!Au
Ok this au takes place in like the 1890’s in the small western town of Night Raven
I'll go in order of the boys
Riddle Rosehearts
Managed to move away from his mama and go here, he still writes her but he's dead to her and it crushes him
He's a good ole english boy turned cowboy and night Raven is the only town that would take him
He runs the town's stables and looks after the horses, acting as a sort of vet for their illnesses. Takes house calls to peoples farms so he can fix up their animals.
He has quite the temper and kicks like a horse himself
Trey Clover
Local dentist and doctor.
Friends with Riddle but ain't much for horses
Definitely has this work cut out for him in this mess of a town.
Came from the big city and knew Riddle as a kid before he moved back to London
Was shocked to see him in night Raven looking like he'd been dragged through hell
Ace trapola
Moved west for money and settled in night Raven only to never leave
Causes a bunch of trouble for the law, always galavanting around town and getting in bar fights
Works at the stable with Riddle and deuce but barely is there to work and just messes around with the horses
Punched riddle once when he first came to town and has not hit him since considering that Riddle got a lot better at fist fighting since you first came in
Deuce spade
Used to be a gang outlaw before he came to night Raven and decide he wanted a quiet life to make his mama proud
Hardest worker at the stables and dose all the lifting
Part time ranch hand out at the big farm Crowley owns
Leona kingscolar
Runs a gang of outlaws and reeks quite a bit of havoc on night Raven
Came from a wealthy family but left the big city's to make his own path
Succeeded, his territory is pretty big in the West and he just needs night Raven to make it complete
Only problem is night Raven has waring gang factions
A quick shot and a good rider
Ruggie bucci
Used to be a street thief to support his town before Leona took over and things got better
Has been his errand boy and enforcer ever since
Still steals but mostly from rich blokes he finds on the side of the rodes
He's a better shot than Leona, always has two 6 shots and a knife on him.
Jack howl
Honestly never wanted to be in a gang but Leona wouldn't leave him alone.
Only joined cause his family lives in a town Leona controls.
Mostly works as a farm hand for Crowley because of his muscle
Is the one to break up epels bar fights all the time
Has a mean right hook
Azul ahsengrotto
Runs the morstro saloon that he uses to conduct his under the table business.
He co-owns it with vil
Octovinell is his gang, with jade too his right and Floyd to enforce his rules,
Active in the night Raven gang wars but mostly just the dirty money he sweeps under the table for arms dealing and such
jade leech
Infamous leech brothers
Escaped convicts that azul took in when they were first forming the gang.
Handles most of the product side of things for the “business” and runs the front of the house with vil
Spent most of his early life taking care of Floyd and his troubled mind
Floyd
Troubled mind growing up,
They ended up as orphans before they where 12 and had to fend for themselves
Killed three men in a town and ran, from place to place
7 bodies in total before they where caught and thrown in jail.
Escaped and joined azuls gang at 17 and have been with him ever since.
Relatively charming young man if you ignore the teeth and glare he sports in a bad mood
Kalim al-hasim
Moved west for peace and quiet and decided to bring Jamil along with him
He's the kind but sort of naive shop owner
Runs the general goods store and has a real knack for business
Partners with Crowley's farm to supply the store of most produce.
If you need something bought or sold you either talk to kalim or azul
Jamil Viper
Resents kalim for dragging him west
But he does like the freedom of the western deserts
Works at kalims shop and chases off any of their more unruly customers (see : Leona and azuls gangs)
Definitely learned how to shoot and became one of the best shots in town.
Has his own horse named saffron who's just the most beautiful red!
Vil schroheint
Co-owns the salon with azul and runs the front of the house with jade!
He's absolutely gorgeous, has a slight German accent and often gets mistaken for a lady.
Was a singer and actor in Germany
Definitely a more effeminate man but after they watched him beat the snot out of some unruly customer they don't mention it.
Rook calls him gorgeous. And that's it.
Always mad at epel for bar fights
Rook hunt
Definitely a hunter
Always sells his game at kalims shop and always has the best catches
Most avoid him because he's an odd Fellow but no one can deny his skill at hunting.
Follows vil around so much his nickname has become “the saloon owners dog”
Epel felimer
Farm hand at Crowley ranch after he quit working for vil.
In this au he's a bit taller and more muscular
Realistically he's a strong farm boy, good at bucking hay and climbing trees.
Mostly tends to the Apple trees but he also herds in the cattle
Gets in a lot of bar fights
Vil thinks he's too crass with his thick accent
Idia shroud
Rich city guy that moved here unwillingly
But he's here and he's scared of the gangs
Mostly keeps to himself and is pretty paranoid
Reads books like crazy, his little house is more of a library then it is a home- well ok it is the local bookstore but his room and or this are on the second story
Used to be quite the gunSlinger before ortho
Ortho shroud
Takes care of his troubled brother and runs most of the errands!
Brings home stray cats for idia and always plays with the dogs!
He's a sweet boy who all but begs people to teach him to shot so he can be just like his big brother but no one budges
Malleus draconia
The marshal
With his black Stetson and those horns it has on it makes him look like the bloody devil
And to some he is.
Really disomnia is more of a benevolent gang, but they enforce the law and keep things mostly peaceful
Malleus himself is a sweet man but a scary one
All outlaws with territory bigger than leona could ever hope
Lilia vanrouge
Outlaw and ex mercenary before he settled down with disomnia
Malleus right hand
Fought in the war before he became a hired gun, then an old friend called in a favor and he raised malleus and settled down.
Joined the gang malleus formed and was right into the thick of it.
Now he's really settled, just a older gentleman raising his adopted son silver now.
Silver vanrouge
 The poor baby he found
Technically Lilia is the one who made him an orphan but- he felt so bad he adopted silver.
Now he's a strong young man who loves his pops
A member of disomnia and works in the town as part of law enforcement occasionally
Besides that he helps Lilia with his little farm. A few cows and some goats, sheep and chickens.
Nothing much but it still what he loves.
Sebek zigvolt
Joined disomnia after seeing Lilia and melleus in a shoot out and becoming an instant devotee
Works full time as law enforcement.
Has a penchant for trying to break up bar fights but ends up getting roped into them on accident.
Denies it but he's so gentle with the horses it's insane to think it's the same boy always yelling and shouting.
Dire Crowley
Mayor of the town and a shady one too.
Pays off all three gangs so they don't kill each other
Runs a big farm on the outskirts of town that supplies a lot of work.
Comes into town often but no one likes him much
Definitely a few skeletons in the closet.

Happy Valentine's (Gator Tillman X F!Reader)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Glenda plans a Valentine's evening for her and Gator. He has other plans.
Warnings: this is written from Glenda's POV at first so is more angsty than usual. as aforementioned, reader and gator are t e r r i b l e people. infidelity as always. i used the upsetting gift narrative from love actually (im so sorry). nsfw!!! mdni!!! no explicit smut written but heavily suggested at. unhappy ending- sorry my loves.
this is the song from the end 🫶
as always, part of the two sinners world ❤️
The table had been ready since 2pm, and finishing touches had been added all day but the table just began to look more cluttered with pink. Glenda had added homemade cupcakes and macaroons as well as a variety of photos of her and Gator. The usually drab and beige-colored dining room had been transformed into something from an awful teenage rom-com. Pink heart balloons floated up to the ceiling with hundreds of rose petals covering the stained wooden floor. Roy had gone out of town so Glenda had taken the full day to make the ranch a romantic paradise to celebrate the 14th February. This was the couple’s third Valentine’s Day and Glenda was sure that Gator was going to propose tonight, well, Roy had hinted as much.
Glenda had dressed herself in her white newest cardigan with a muted pink dress underneath. She wore the perfume that Gator seemed to acknowledge more and spent more time than usual pushing her blonde hair from her face. She’d bought Gator a new wallet, his name precisely sewn in by luxurious thread and a bottle of his favourite whiskey with a crystal tumbler with his name engraved. Gator had no idea about the gifts but Glenda had a rough idea of what Gator had bought her. To Glenda, Gator was great at many things but discretion was not one of them. Maybe Gator wanted Glenda to know? She couldn’t look inside, it wouldn’t be very Christian of her but she could at least admire the bag. It was a boutique just outside of town, they sold bespoke jewellery as well as some lingerie but Glenda and her girlfriends always averted their eyes at that. Since seeing the bag, Glenda had spent nearly every day looking in the store, trying to figure out what her complex boyfriend might have got her. Maybe a necklace? Maybe some undergarments? Maybe her engagement ring had been in this very store?
She couldn’t wait for him to get home.
Glenda had no idea that you’d been texting Gator all day and he was planning on spending the full night with you.
***
The helium from the balloons seeped out without Glenda noticing. The non alcoholic sparkling wine, which was chilled, was now lukewarm. The Etta James record had stopped spinning, she’d restarted it after it played out every time but for the last two hours, she just listened to noise of the cattle outside. Gator’s phone was going straight to answer phone, he’d text her a few hours ago that he would be home soon. It was now just after 9. He finished work at 5. Where was he?
The sky above was black and looked starless.
There was nothing shining down on her tonight.
Every light outside was the brightest she’d ever seen. Did Gator’s patrol car have bright lights? How had she never noticed this? She’d called reception at the station and Amy had the same tone of voice as she usually did when Glenda routinely made this call.
“Has he not come home again?”
“I swear Glenda, he left right on time- no reports of any collisions so it should’ve been a smooth run”
“You need to have a chat with him Glenda, this isn’t fair- talk to his daddy. He’ll beat it outta him”
Glenda wasn’t sure if she had suspicions about Gator or not. She honestly wouldn’t allow herself to even consider it, he would never do anything. What would he even be doing? He could’ve been at the bar with an old school buddy or maybe he’s back at the shooting range. His job was so stressful, he needed chance to unwind and how could she deprive him of that?
***
Gator came round to you as soon as he finished work, you heard the tyres squeal as he braked with force from the speed of his patrol car racing down your suburban street. You’d been teasing him all day, sending lingerie pics from as early as 10 this morning.
[sent at 10:32] You: ok, so i think my boobs look amazing in this
[sent at 10:32] You: image attached
[sent at 10:33] You: but my ass looks unreal in this- right???
[sent at 10:33] You: image attached
[recieved at 10:35] Gator🐍💩: got a lonnnnnng fuckin day ahead- don’t do this
[sent at 11:04] You: ur my valentine right???? i bought this just for u :(
[sent at 11:05] You: image attached
[recieved at 11:56] Gator🐍💩: make sure the doors unlocked at 5. cya then. b good.
He tried to hide the smirk from his face as he text Glenda he’d be home late.
You’d chosen your new lingerie set for him, it was baby pink and had dark hearts sewn in. Your hair was half up half down and slightly curled with a pink bow firmly secured with pins. You looked amazing, you had to admit that it was some of your best work. You’d poured a big glass of whiskey for Gator and left it on the cabinet next to your bedroom door. He’d love that little touch.
The pink tapered candles fluttered and the miscellaneous sexy playlist hummed through the speakers. As soon as you heard Gator slam your front door, you’d arched your back so the first thing he saw when he entered would be your ‘please fuck me’ eyes and the second would be your ass positioned high in the air. You smirked in anticipation.
“Fuckin’ hell baby- tha’s a sight for sore eyes” Gator swallowed half the whiskey in one gulp. He hissed as the liquid slid down his parched throat.
“You like your present?” remaining in your arched position, you shook your ass at him and smiled hearing him groan in response
He slammed the glass down; now empty after one final sip. He sneered at you as his eyes followed yours, he loved you like this, so pretty and complaint. He gripped your hair in his fist and pulled you up to his face; you could smell the heat of the whiskey on his tongue.
“Y’wanna know what I want for my present baby?” his grip tightened in your perfectly pruned hair, and your eyes rounded in response, prompting an answer.
“I want you to be a good girl f’me, all night long” his other hand clasped around your chin, tilting your lips up to his. The caliber of kiss was synonymous with Gator: it was rough, passionate, and filled with a desperate desire for control. His tongue slid against yours and you could now taste the spice of the whiskey on his tongue, along with the artificial taste of whatever disgusting vape he’d been sucking all day. Spit trailed between your lips as you pulled away.
“M’gonna be good, Sir- all night, I promise”
He mumbled a final "good girl" against your lips, kissed you quick, and pushed you back against your cream coloured linen. His ravenous eyes never left yours as he pulled his belt out of its loops, “s’gonna be a long night for you, baby”
***
You must have dozed off on his chest, you awoke to the feeling of his heart pumping and the sound of him taking a drag on some god awful vape. God, he irritated you so much. Your throat felt sore, presumably a mix of Gator’s strong hand wrapped around it and how much of the evening you’d spent crying out his name in pleasure. He smelt of sex- the whole room did. The bedsheets long forgotten as they kept getting in the way of the two of you trying to fuck each other as hard as you could. The playlist had moved onto something more romantic and you were too exhausted to feel uncomfortable. It was Norah Jones- Come away with me.
‘While I’m safe there in your arms’
Gator was too content to leave, he was vaping to try to stop himself from falling asleep in the cozy comfort of your room. He’d cum across your face and your tits, he could feel it drying against his side as you fell into a brief sleep. He knew you were awake now, your breathing had become slightly more laboured. Gator knew you were building up the courage to ask him to leave. You never liked it when it got like this. It was so easy when he was fucking you, when he had your ponytail wrapped around his hand and was using it as leverage to fuck you with everything he had- that was what you enjoyed the most. But, this is what he enjoyed the most.
He had to tell you about what he’d bought you.
‘So all I ask is for you’
The bag alone was beautiful, it was from the boutique outside of town. You’d never even considered going inside, it always looked too expensive and you didn’t like to be surrounded by pretty, delicate things.
Too scared of them shattering.
Too scared of breaking something beyond repair.
‘To come away with me in the night’
It was a necklace. And god, it was gorgeous. It was a simple silver pendant with small diamonds embedded and the heart in the middle was solid silver. Even in the dim light of your bedroom; its beauty radiated. You’d had gifts from guys before but nothing ever, ever like this. You swallowed the lump in your throat. This wasn’t right.
Fuck, this was a mistake.
Gator’s voice broke the crippling silence.
“As soon as I saw it, it reminded me of you” he placed a soft kiss against your temple “s’beautiful like you”. His voice was gentle and tender.
It was too much.
You had to shatter it.
‘Come away with me’
“Give this to Glenda- I, uh, I don’t want it” you felt too vulnerable; you couldn’t look at him. “M’not your girlfriend Gator, give it to her”.
You placed the necklace in the palm of his hand with care, already feeling immense guilt and regret but you couldn’t go back.
Gator got dressed whilst you sat in your en-suite bathroom, pretending not to care about him. You did, of course. You cared too much. After Gator drove away, you re-entered the bedroom, the music had stopped and the candles had burned out into unlit nubs. You didn’t bother to remake your bed, you just crawled into the warm spot Gator had left and tried not to lament.
***
Glenda loved the necklace that much that the thoughts of the abandoned Valentine’s Day dinner dissipated from her mind. Gator was the kind man she always knew he was and this beautiful gift had confirmed it.
Gator climbed into bed and immediately turned away from Glenda. He couldn’t look at her. The necklace wasn’t for her.
She was wearing your necklace.
You should have been wearing his heart.

Save a horse...
(SFW, Read the tags. 1/2
Promts: One's on purpose. The other is oblivious. Can you guess which is which?
"..I didn't know that was a gay bar.")
Pov, you're currently a drunk and slightly nervous Wade Wilson - Not Deadpool. Wade Wilson. You know, that guy who's so insecure about his entire body that he covered 100% of it and often times has multiple costumes/masks on because it's a metaphor for how he actually feels on the inside? Yeah. Him.
You are also currently sitting in a midwestern country bar with a shitty luke warm beer waiting for your 'Room mate' to say he's ready to come home. Watching how lit up he gets when around ranch hands and hard whiskey makes you tip your hat in fear you might actually look like there's pepperoni on your face from how red it's getting.
Slouching into your chair further, you start grumbling how the joke wasn't even that funny and that you could make a joke 10 times funnier, but you promised previously to behave yourself. Plus, you weren't doing so hot anyway. This was your 8th one as it was, and already you were watching his every move. How his canines sat when he smirked, how his arm hung over the back of his chair, how his boots crossed under the table, how he used the bottle in his hand as almost a speaking point, making geastures with it as he litsened, responding to their stories with his own. Right now the topic was about fixing fences and Horses escaping, riding horses, etc.
Honestly, he's heard worse. Ten year old girls talk more seriously about horses than these 4 rugged grown beareded men.. it seemed so boring..
Oh god. At this point, you're wondering why you even came. You clearly didn't fit in here, and these jeans did NOT do you any favors in the front. Was this why he was always so bitchy? Because his balls were getting strangled together by denim all the time?
It's not until you hear something in which you perk up. "Wade. Wade! Come're! Tell'em bout tha' there one time, will ya?"
Blinking, you wondered. Did you hear that, right? That beautiful draw and slur in his words calling for YOU of all people?
"Come on boy! We wont bite!" One of the men laughed. You could of sworn you just heard Logan chuckle and say "You better not.." in a tone that was... not firmiliar.
Slowly, You get up and stagger over only to be grabbed by the massive belt buckle and pulled close. His arm wrapping around your waist as he looked up at you with such shiney yet hammered eyes. "Tell'em!"
"Tell them what?"
"Bout the thing."
"Which thing?"
"Ya know the- Oh wait ya weren't there for that. Well shit, sorry...Oh! Wade, thi's Buck, Cletus and Mark. Have a seat."
For a moment, you blink as if he's gone mad. There were no seats left. Only 4 at one table. And as much as you'd love to just sit on his lap, there's no way he'd allow that. Not in front of these guys. Manly men didn't let other men sit on their laps in public. He's learned that the hard way.
"How much have you had, Wolfie?"
"Ah! Nevermin' that! Sit!" As if God himself awnsered your prayers he dragged you down into his lap, keeping you sat sideways and with an arm around you for no reason at all other then to claim dominance? Territory even? Just.. cause?
Either way, you find yourself a bit too shocked to speak, but let's be honest, that never lasts long. Trying to hide your face, You mutter;
"So...new friends of yours?" You ask the beast of a man who's locked his arm onto your hip.
"Cowfolk are usually quite... fond.. of one another." Buck says as if trying to tell you something, but you were far too knackered to get it the first go.
"We got a way of finding each other." Mark speaks up.
"Oh, do you now?" You ask, sounding intrigued.
It was now that you understood FULLY why he brought you to this bar specifically. Or was he even aware? No he couldn't be that dull- well...
Suddenly, you relaxed completely into his arms, wrapping an arm loosely around his neck, fitting into him like a puzzle piece. Like a wave of relief that you could infact show affection in here. It made you wonder if that was why Logan was so handsy or if he was just three sheets to the wind.
"Mmh. It's how we found ol' Logan here." Cletus made the mistake of saying and smiling at the muscly hairy man in a way Wade knew far too well.
Giving a quick, threatening glance, you take off your hat and put it on top of his head while staring them dead in the face. Howlett wasn't the only one who was territorial..

“You just need to do it, no one’s gonna wanna fuck a 30-year-old virgin,” Fanboy said as he sipped his drink.
Bob groaned and put his head in his hands. Rooster laughed and shook his head, placing his hand on his friend’s back. It was Bob’s 30th birthday, and he just wanted a quiet night and to share a few drinks with his friend. Sadly, Phoenix was out of town so Bob was left to the devices of Fanboy, Rooster, and Hangman. The conversation of his virginity always seemed to rise after Fanboy had a couple of drinks in him.
“I mean, what are you waiting for?” Fanboy asked.
Bob honestly didn’t know. His teenage years were spent studying chemistry, working for Old Man Leuellen, and riding bulls on the weekend. He was the quieter type, not loud and outgoing as some of the other guys he rode bulls with. They were loud and crass and caught the attention of all the girls walking by. While most of them went out after the rodeo, Bob went home with his cash envelope and gave it to his momma to help pay the electricity bill. Sure, he had his fair share of girlfriends and there were always girls hanging around after the rodeo. He’d been involved in heavy makeout sessions and dry humping, but it never went farther than that. Fanboy joked that Bob was bringing down the sex appeal of the squad because he was still a virgin.
“The right moment, I guess,” Bob mumbled, messing with the tab of his root beer
“That shit never fucking happens,” Hangman laughed, “That only happens in the movies. I lost mine in a barn on my family’s ranch. Rooster lost his in the back of the Bronco.”
“I sat back there,” Bob said with a disgusted look on his face.
“If you think that was bad. . . Fanboy, where did you lose yours?”
“My parents’ bed,” Fanboy smirked and Bob gagged, “Hey! I changed the sheets after. Besides they had condoms in the bedside table, readily available. Robert,” Fanboy sighed and put his arm around his friend, “You turned thirty today. . . it’s time to grow up. And as your best friend and confidant, I have someone for you.”
“I-I don’t want a. . .” Bob looked around the bar and lowered his voice, “A prostitute.”
“We wouldn’t do that to you,” Jake shook his head, “Here, go to this hotel and this room. We’ll send her over soon.” Jake took a white business card out of his pocket. Bob looked at his three friends and took the card, running his fingers over the writing.
“You guys have really thought about this, huh?” Bob said his heartbeat racing.
“Do you want to do this or not? If you don’t want to, we understand,” Fanboy said to his friend. Bob took a deep breath and nodded. He trusted them with his life and knew they wouldn’t set him up or put him in a situation he didn’t want to be in. If anything, they probably already had someone in mind for Bob, “Good, we’ll text you when she’s on her way.”
Bob nodded again and downed the rest of his drink before heading to the hotel written on the card. He shook with nerves as he walked down the street. He rolled his eyes, they really did think this shit through. Bob kept his head down as he sped walked through the lobby. He felt like everyone in the building could tell what he was about to do. He punched the button for the 24th floor and tapped his foot on the floor. He just hoped whoever they picked was nice.
Rooster, Jake, and Fanboy had really thought everything through, even picking out the right girl to spend the night with their quiet friend. Y/N was a friend of Jake’s and worked at the Hard Deck. Jake was the one who pointed out the googly eyes Bob would get every time he saw her. Bob suddenly forgot what English was anytime she walked into the room. She was the perfect person to hook up with Bob.
“You think she’ll do it?” Fanboy asked, as he down the rest of his drink, “I mean, she didn’t seem against it when we talked to her the other day. She’s as googly-eyed for Bob as he is for her.”
“Hope so, otherwise, Bobby Boy is gonna spend another night using his right hand,” Jake said as he texted Y/N to meet them at the hotel, “Alright, the plan is set. She’s already there waiting for him.”
Fanboy raised his empty glass and clinked it against Jake’s, “We should buy him a cake.”
— — —
Bob took a deep breath, shaking out his nervous hands as he scanned the key card to the room. When he opened it, his wide eyes scanned the room, noticing the soft lights and the music playing softly in the background. He was cursing his friends, they had already set him up and didn’t even tell him with whom.
“You’re here,” Bob turned to look at you, sitting in a chair by the bed, a glass of Rose in your hand, “They said you left 20 minutes ago. . . did you get lost?”
“Y/N? A-Are you lost?” Bob asked you. You smiled and set your drink down on the table, pushing yourself up from your spot, “Th-they uh. . . they didn’t mention you’d be here.”
“I know,” You said, as you walked over to Bob. He froze slightly as your dainty hands came and touched his clothed chest, “Happy Birthday,” You whispered. He took a deep breath as you moved your hands to push his jacket off his arms. Bob opened his mouth to ask how you knew, when you answered for him, “They told me everything.”
“Oh, okay,” Bob said nervously. He jumped at the feeling of you pressing your body against his. His hands flew to your waist, “I-is this okay?”
“You really haven’t done this before have you?”
“I-I have j-just not with someone as p-pretty a-as you,” Bob said and cursed himself out in his mind for stuttering, “You make me nervous.”
“I don’t know if that’s a good thing or bad thing,” You smiled and caressed his jaw. You brought your lips to ghost over his neck, your hot breath making goosebumps rise on his skin, “Relax, baby. I got you, okay?”
“O-okay,” Bob said, as you placed a kiss on his pulse point. Bob let out a moan, as your hands tangled in his hair, pulling it softly, as you kissed up his neck to his jaw. You grabbed his jaw in your hand and made him look at you.
“You don’t have to do this,” You said, “I know the boys are behind this, Jake seemed a bit too happy when I said yes to meeting you here. But if you don’t want to, you can tell me.”
“I-I want to. Please, Y/N,” Bob said shyly and he innocently bucked his hips. He was painfully hard. He didn’t even know he could get that hard. He was silently begging for more, but he wanted to play it cool. As far as he knew, Y/N didn’t know he was a virgin. He wanted her to believe that.
“Take your pants off.” You said.
You smiled and kissed his lips. Bob pulled your body into him more and walked you over to the bed. This part he had done before. He pushed you onto the bed, and you smirked at him. You climbed back on the bed as Bob got on top of you, attaching your lips together again. One of your hands found his jaw and the other tangled back in his hair. You loved Bob’s hair and he clearly loved having you pull on it. Bob grinded his hips into yours and you moaned at the feeling of his hard-on grinding against your core.
His lips went from yours to your jaw, kissing and biting softly. The dress you were wearing was low cut, giving Bob the perfect view of the tops of your breasts. He left kisses on your collarbone before kissing the top of your cleavage. His large rough hands were warm against your thighs, as he grabbed your leg and hitched it over his lip, so he grinds into you more.
“Oh fuck, Bobby,” You moaned.
“I want to make you feel good,” He whispered against your skin.
Another time,” You said, “I’m here to make you feel good.”
You pushed Bob off of you and scurried out from beneath him. He shuffled so he was laying in the middle of the bed. You stood at the foot of the bed and shed your dress. Bob sucked in a breath seeing your naked body. You climbed back on top of him and kissed him again. His shaky hands went to your hips and lightly guided you to grind on his cock. You grabbed his wrists and gently pinned them above his head. Your lips went back to his, as you took control. You moved your hips slowly, feeling the growing wet spot in his boxers. Bob withered under you as you kissed your way down his jaw. Your hands went to his t-shirt and slowly pulled it up over his head and off his body.
“W-wait! I-I’m a virgin,” Bob said and felt his face get hot with embarrassment.
“I know,” You responded.
“H-how?”
“Cause you look ready to cum and I haven’t even done anything. . . And Fanboy told me.”
“Oh,” He blushed.
You smirked and placed a soft kiss on his lips, “We don’t have to do this. I am perfectly okay with making out and ordering some cake via room service.”
“I want to do this,” Bob assured you, grabbing both of your hands in his, “I trust you.”
You nodded and leaned in to kiss him again. Your hands went to the bottom of his shirt, tugging on it. He got the hint and sat up to shuck it off. Bob was beautiful. His tall slender frame was always the perfect sun-kissed tan color. You kissed down his chest, swirling your tongue over his nipples as you worked your way down his body. The moan Bob let out as you delivered a kiss to his clothed dick was absolutely pornographic.
“I’ve barely touched you,” You smirked.
“I know,” Bob said breathlessly. He already looked fucked out and you hadn’t done anything besides grind and make out, “Touch me? Please?”
“Anything for you baby boy,” You said and placed a kiss right above the waistband of his boxers. You dragged them down his legs slowly, watching as his dick slapped against his stomach, rock hard and red. A small drop of pre-cum fell from the tip, which you licked up. Bob thought he was going to cum just at the sight of you in between his legs.
“Oh. . . fucking shit, oh my god, oh my god,” Bob mumbled as you placed a kiss right on the tip. He was squirming around and about lost it when you licked from his balls to the tip, “Please. . . please, please, please.”
“Bob shut up.” You demanded and he bit his lip nodding. You spit on his dick, before slowly taking him in his mouth.
“Oh fuck,” Bob moaned loudly, flopping his head back against the pillows. You lowkey felt bad for who was next door, because Bob was loud. His hand went to your hair, not entirely sure what to do, he held it softly out of your face. You took as much of him in your mouth as you could, relaxing your throat to take him in deep. You bobbed your head up and down, using your hand for whatever didn’t fit. Bob guided your motions lightly, but couldn’t help but thrust into your mouth.
Bob couldn’t focus on anything but the bliss he was feeling. He couldn’t stop the moans that left his mouth. He was thankful that no one he knew was nearby or could hear the noises Bob was making, he’d never live it down. But to you, it was like music. You swallowed around him and Bob’s thighs started to shake, the grip on your hair tightening.
“Y/N, I think, oh my god, oh my god,” Bob started saying as you pulled off of him, “What?” He looked like you just told him you killed a dog, “I-I. . . what?”
“I want you to cum inside me,” You whispered against his lips, kissing him. You gently climbed into his lap.
“W-what about you?” Bob asked, “Are y-you w-wet?”
“I’ve been dripping since the moment you walked through the door,” You ran a finger through your folds, collecting your slick on your finger, “Open,” Bob’s jaw opened and you stuck your finger in his mouth. He moaned at the taste of you on his tongue.
“C-can I t-taste you?”
“You don’t have to.”
“I want to- no, I need to,” Bob said and you nodded, “Lay down, sweetheart.”
You nodded and rolled over to switch places with Bob. You lay down and opened your legs as Bob crawled between them. You could see the blush on his face, as he placed a kiss on your thigh. You moaned as he placed another kiss right on your clit. Your moans were his encouragement as he licked your entrance.
“Use your fingers too, baby,” You encouraged.
Bob nodded and lifted his hand up to you. You sucked his fingers into your mouth, getting them wet. Bob took his hand away and ran his pointer finger up your folds before gently pushing it into your core. You threw your head back as he pumped his finger in and out of you gently. His tongue went to your clit, sucking it into his mouth and licking it. Your hand pulled on his hair, pulling him closer to you. Your legs went over his shoulders as he laid down flat to grind his own hips into the mattress to get some kind of friction.
“More, Bob, add another finger,” You said and Bob did as told, “God, you listen so well. Do you want to make me cum? Keep going, just like that. . .”
You couldn’t help but grind against his face. Bob moaned at the feeling as he was eating you out like it was his last meal. His fingers curled up against your g-spot and you let out an encouragement for him to keep doing that. He felt you clench around his fingers and didn’t stop moving them and sucking on your clit until he felt your release. He looked up at you with wide eyes as your head was thrown back, you riding out your high. Bob placed a soft kiss on your thigh as he slowly pulled away from you, his mouth and jaw glistening with your release.
“Lay back down,” You said, your eyes darker with lust, “I’m gonna ride you.”
Bob nodded silently, flopping down next to you. He made grabby hands towards you as you climbed on top of him. You spit on his dick and pumped him a couple of times, before holding it at your entrance. Bob let out a low groan as you sunk down on him, filling you up to the brim.
“Oh Jesus, Bobby, you fill me up so fucking well,” You said as you started to move up and down slowly. You grabbed Bob’s hands and pinned them above his head. You rode him slowly, taking your time to watch Bob’s face contorted in pleasure.
“Y/N. . .” He breathed out, “I-I’m n-not going to last.”
“That’s okay, baby,” You whispered, kissing right below his ear, “Tell me how it feels?”
“So fucking good,” He shuddered. The feeling was nothing compared to Bob using his hand or pocketpussy. You were tight and warm, and Bob wanted to soak up everything felt. The pleasure was clouding his mind as he thrust up into you. He broke free from your grip, to wrap his arms around you and thrust up into you. You moaned at the feeling as Bob was chasing his own release. His vision was going white as he held back a moan in his throat.
“Y/N, I’m gonna cum!” He whined. You pushed his arms down, taking back over, keeping the pace he had set. The loud cry of pure pleasure that broke through his lips was pure music. He was like a masterpiece, arching off the bed as he came in you. You moved your hips up and down, milking his orgasm. He shuddered with every movement, already feeling sensitive, “Baby. . . I-I can’t.”
“Overstimulated, Bobby?” You smirked, still moving your hips. He grabbed your hips, causing you to still. He was breathing hard and nodded shyly. He sat up so he was chest to chest with you, and wrapped his arms around you again, “You did so good for me.”
“I-I like being in you,” Bob whispered, “Feels good.”
“I like the feeling of you in me too,” You said back, placing a kiss on his lips, “Do you want to take a bath or a shower?”
“Can we just cuddle?” Bob asked you softly.
“Yeah, we can do that,” You answered, “I gotta clean up first, okay.”
He nodded and laid back gently. You slowly lifted off of him, and he groaned at both the feeling of overstimulation and the loss of heat from you. You grabbed Bob’s t-shirt as you walked into the bathroom to put it on. You did your usual after-sex routine and washed your hands. You sighed at the sight in front of you when you walked back out.
Bob had put his boxers on and curled up on the mattress, snoring softly. You smiled and climbed into bed next to him. You were ultimately stuck as the big spoon and wrapped your arms the best you could around his giant frame. You could feel him relax into your touch and you smiled. You easily drifted off to sleep in his warm embrace.
— — —
“Be quiet,” Jake hushed his fellow aviators the next morning. They hadn’t heard from you or Bob the whole night, so they were praying they didn’t just waste fifteen bucks on a cake and frosting for nothing.
“What if they didn’t even do anything?” Rooster asked him.
“Then we smash the cake in his face,” Fanboy said, pulling an extra key card out of his pocket, “They totally did something, there’s no way they didn’t.”
“He did say he was waiting for the right moment,” Rooster shrugged and Jake rolled his eyes unlocking the door. Fanboy’s words were quickly proven to be false as they were both greeted by the sight of Bob having you on all fours as he fucked you from behind.
“Oh my god! I told you!” Fanboy yelled, a smirk on his face. Bob froze and looked up at the door. You groaned and grabbed a pillow, chucking it at his friends.
“Get out!” You yelled.
“Congrats!” Rooster said, putting the cake on the table and quickly pushing the other two out the door. The door slammed shut behind them and they all looked at each other and high-fived.
Mission accomplished.

Chapter 13 - Friends in Low Places
Luke Alvez was a man of few words, but no fewer were ever spoken from his mouth than that morning as he sat in the little corner booth in Bandera’s lone cafe.
Between sips of bitter coffee from the chipped mug nothing but awkward silence petered around them. Luke couldn’t even bring himself to make eye contact with the other person opposite him. Instead his gaze flitted between his mug and the old clock on the wall, whilst he wondered how long it was polite of him to stay.
His temples throbbed and the coffee didn’t go anyway to stem the taste of that goddamn home brewed whiskey on his tongue.
To say he’d made an error in judgement last night was underselling his stupidity.
Images of the night before flashed in his mind's eyes like a broken movie reel. After leaving Spencer’s lodge he’d needed to take the edge off and found himself in the 11th Street Bar.
The old bar keep had plied him with his homemade whiskey which was quite possibly the strongest substance that had ever passed by Luke’s lips.
It didn’t stop him drinking it, shot after shot, until he was bleary eyed and stumbling on his feet.
When he’d stepped out into the cool night air he’d almost fallen down the high curb, would have landed right on his face if it wasn’t for a strong set of arms steadying him.
“Whoa there partner, careful as ya go.” The voice belonging to the man who caught him laughed.
“Oh Jesus, I’m so sorry. I, uh, probably overdid it a little.”
“No kidding, Cole’s home brew’ll do that.”
There was something alluring about the tall, broad cowboy. Perhaps it was the alcohol in his system. Possibly it was because he was painfully lonely and his heart had taken a beating upon finding out Spencer had moved on.
Whatever it was, it led to him happily going home with the man. He knew, even in his drunken state, that it was a bad idea. He knew using some stranger for sex would not make him feel better in the way he wanted.
Yet he did it anyway.
“You ain’t from around here, are ya?” The man asked him, smiling at Luke.
“Is it that obvious?” Luke chuckled.
“I just never forget a handsome face, is all.”
“Oh.” Luke rubbed his neck. “Oh.”
“What’s ya name?” The man proffered a large hand for which Luke shook.
“L-Luke.”
“Mighty strong name, Luke.” He held onto Luke’s hand slightly longer than a normal hand shake. “I’m Grant, it's nice to meet you.”
Grant, as it turned out, lived very close to the bar. Closer than the hotel Luke planned on staying at and insisted it wasn’t a bother for Luke to stay the night. Honestly Luke was a little lost in Grant’s eyes at this point and probably would have agreed to anything.
Grant offered him a strong mug of coffee upon arrival at his ranch. He wasn’t sure what kind of magic it was sprinkled with but it did seem to help him sober up. But maybe not sober enough.
It was Luke who had made the first move. It had been uncoordinated and unplanned. One minute Grant was talking and the next Luke practically flung himself forward on the couch and kissed him.
“Whoa there cowboy,” Grant chuckled lightly, guiding Luke back by his shoulders. “You sure you’re sober enough to be making these kinds of decisions?”
“I know what I’m doing.” Luke spoke, surprisingly coherently. “I know that I want this.”
And at the time he’d meant it, he did want this. He didn’t realise how he would come to regret it later. But Luke had been unintentionally celibate for too long, not quite getting over the hump of his first time post-Spencer.
Maybe if he could allow himself to take that step, healing his broken heart might not be so difficult.
He couldn’t deny even now in the morning light that it had been an amazing night. Grant was unfathomably good in bed, with his hands, with his mouth. Luke had so many orgasms he still felt a little overstimulated this morning.
It probably didn’t help matters that he’d hurriedly agreed to a shared shower this morning in which Grant awarded him release two more times whilst on his knees.
He hadn’t thought of Spencer last night, but he had however succumbed to thoughts of him this morning. Whilst Grant fellated him in the shower, twice, Luke couldn’t help the way his mind raced over a similar scenario years ago, right before Spencer's arrest, before performing such acts became impossible for him.
Luke didn’t know why Grant had insisted on taking him for coffee this morning but now here they were, in awkward silence whilst they both tried to get out of this situation unscathed.
“I, uh,” Luke cleared his throat. “Last night was fun but I’m heading back to DC later today.”
“Wasn’t expecting nothin’ from ya.” Grant chuckled. “I know a one night stand when I see one. Just doing the polite thing, taking you for breakfast.”
“Right,” Luke nodded, gripping his mug. “I’m sorry, I don’t do this very often.”
“Yeah, I can tell.” Grant smirked. “It’s fine, don’t you worry about me. I knew that dog weren’t gonna hunt.”
“Right.” Luke frowned as the saying went over his head.
“I gotta split anyway. It was nice to meet you Luke.” Grant slid out from the booth and got to his feet, picking up his stetson and placing it back on top of his head.
“Yeah, uh, you too.” Luke stayed seated, offering a meek smile to the man.
Grant threw a couple of bills down on the table before turning on the heels of his boots. Luke watched him saunter away, open the cafe door and step outside into the sunshine. Once he was alone, Luke fell back against the chair and rubbed his hands over his face at his own stupidity. You don’t fight fire with fire, but that’s exactly what he’d tried to do.
He closed his eyes and sat perfectly still, his hangover coupled with the aches and gripes from an extreme amount of physical activity encompassing his entire body. He didn’t need to be back at Quantico until tomorrow.
Perhaps he’d get a room and sleep for a few hours, maybe try and see Spencer again when he felt less dizzy and catch a late flight back to Virginia tonight. But obviously the universe had other plans as his phone started to ring.
He grumbled and sat back up, freeing the device from his pocket and groaning at her name flashing on the screen. He sucked in a deep breath before answering it and putting it to his ear.
“Hey Garcia,” he tried to hide his lack of sleep from his voice.
“Hey, I’m sorry to have to do this but there have been some developments, you’re needed back at Quantico ASAP.” She did sound sorry, which was surprising coming from her.
“Right, fine.” He didn’t have the energy to argue with her.
“I’m sorry, I know you really wanted to see boy wonder, I wanted you to see him too.” She was pouting, he could hear it over the phone.
He was silent for a moment or two, staring back at the clock on the wall. He sighed deeply and rubbed his eye with his free hand.
“I did see him. Last night. I couldn’t wait until this morning.” He admitted, knowing she would get the information out of him one way or another.
“Ohemgee, Newbie! Way to bury the leash!” She screeched, causing Luke to grimace at the way his head pounded. “How is he? What did you talk about? Is he okay out there all on his own? Gosh I do worry about that boy all alone. He can’t cook, I bet he’s lost weight, has he lost weight? Without my constant force feeding him cookies I bet he’s lost weight.”
He waited for her to exhaust her line of questioning before he spoke again, sounding incredibly sorry for himself.
“He’s…he’s moved on.” Luke grumbled.
“Moved on? He’s not in Bandera anymore?” Garcia sounded confused.
“No, that's not what I meant.” Luke sighed again, not really wanting to have to spell this out. “He’s moved on…with someone else. I found him in bed with a woman.” He was met by a wave of silence and he knew why. “I’m on speaker aren’t I?”
“Uh, yeah.” Penelope sounded a little guilty. You’ve got Jayje and Em here too.”
“A heads up in the future would be nice.” Luke downed the coffee and forced himself to his feet.
“Sorry, Luke.” Emily’s voice carried down the phone as Luke headed towards the door.
“I had no idea he’d met someone.” JJ added.
“Yeah well, I think it’s been a long time since any of us really knew him.” He threw open the door and squinted at the assault of sunlight when he stepped outside.
“I know this isn’t what you want to hear,” Penelope prefaced and Luke held his breath. “And don’t get me wrong, as much as you grate on me Newbie, I do want you to be happy. That being said, is it wrong of me for wanting the same for Reid?”
Luke huffed down the steps of the cafe towards his SUV.
“No, of course it isn’t.” He agreed. “I want him to be happy too. A part of me is glad that he’s not completely on his own here but it doesn’t stop me wishing that he could have found that happiness with me. Is this what closure is like, Prentiss?”
In Penelope’s bat cave, she and JJ looked at Emily with pinched brows, not having been privy to her conversation with Luke at the San Antonio PD.
“Unfortunately so.” Emily ignored them. “It’s probably better that you know rather than always wondering. You might finally be able to close that book now.”
“I’m, uh, I’m just heading to my car, Garcia can you get me on the next flight back to Virginia?” He changed the subject as he unlocked the SUV and slid inside.
“Of course.” She agreed, without her usual flare. “I’ll have the details sent right over.”
“Thanks. Guess I’ll see you all soon.” He sighed once again.
“Alvez, wait a second.” Emily’s voice sounded again.
There was shuffling in which he ascertained she had taken him off of speaker and left the room.
“Yeah Prentiss?”
“I know this is hard, but don’t let this destroy you. I love Spencer just as much as anyone but he is not known for dealing with his problems in a healthy way. Don’t let him break you. You can do better.”
Luke felt tears sting his eyes and he closed them to stop them falling. He leant back against the driver’s seat.
“Thanks, Em. I’ll try.” He mumbled.
“I mean you’re already trying right?” Emily’s voice had a hint of amusement to it. “What was his name?”
Luke’s eyes shot back open and he stared down at his phone in his hand with a deep frown.
“Excuse me?”
“I might have been keeping tabs on you, a part of me didn’t think you’d make it to Reid’s ranch.” She was smiling, he could hear it in her voice. “I checked your GPS coordinates a few times and you never made it to the hotel.”
Luke shook his head as a dry chuckle left his lips. He wasn’t even surprised.
“His name's Grant, I met him at a bar last night.” Luke confessed.
“Hmm, sounds like it could be promising.” Emily was walking, he could hear her footsteps.
“It was a one night stand. And anyway, we live like two thousand miles apart.” He couldn’t help the way he thought that Spencer would know the exact mileage.
“Distance is nothing.” Emily clucked. “You had a good time, yes?”
“Hmm,” Luke nodded, feeling a pleasurable coiling in his stomach when he thought of last night.
“Sometimes when one story ends, another begins.” She mused. “All I’m saying is, would it be the worst thing in the world if you stayed in touch?”
Luke closed his eyes again, picturing the tall, strong cowboy and feeling a shiver pass up his spine. It would not be the worst thing, far from it.
“I gotta go.” He replied. “Got a couple of things I need to take care of before I head back.”
“Okay,” the amusement danced in her tone. “Good luck with that.”
Luke hung up the phone and started the engine. And as if on muscle memory, he started in the direction of Grant’s ranch.
***
You found yourself alone in bed when you woke up the next morning. For a few moments you felt lighter than air. All of your secrets were out in the open, you and Spencer now knew each other on the deepest level. He’d told you he loved you, things were looking up.
But why were you alone?
And then the panic set in. You lept out of bed and hurriedly threw your clothes back on as your heart thundered inside of your chest. Spencer was turning you in. He was on the phone to Luke getting him back here to have you arrested.
You needed to run.
Your panic was thankfully short lived. Upon rushing out of the bedroom you found a breakfast display much like that he’d left on your doorstep a while ago. A bowl of cereal, a fresh mug of lemon and honey tea and a glass of OJ. This one also had a note to accompany it in his near illegible writing.
I didn’t want to wake you because you looked so peaceful. I’ll be up at the field when you’re awake. Take your time, have breakfast, take a shower or have a bath or something. I’ll always be close by.
Oh and by the way, I love you.
Your heart soared inside your chest and a smile stretched across your face as you read the words over and over again in your head. You felt a small pang of guilt of thinking even for a second he would turn his back on you.
You ate the cereal and drank the tea and orange juice before making your way back through to the bathroom. Catching a glimpse of yourself in the mirrored cabinet you spotted the distinctive red blotchy bruise on the front of your throat from Spencer’s lip sucking on your flesh. It made a warmth spread throughout your body at the mere thought.
You brushed your fingers over it a few times, slightly light headed by the way he had marked you. Eventually you turned away and stripped back out of your clothes before hopping in the shower, allowing the water to cleanse you the way your confessions last night had.
***
Spencer had awoken early, as was the norm for him, and quietly slipped out of bed so as not to disturb you. He showered and washed his hair, one of the harder tasks when only having the use of one hand, and played all the events of the past twelve hours over in his head.
Having Luke show up here could have been Spencer’s unravelling. If Luke had arrived here prior to Spencer meeting you, the events could have transpired a lot differently.
Despite it all, Spencer did still love Luke, there was no denying that even from himself. Before you, Luke was Spencer’s only real tangible love. Of course there had been Maeve but there was always a distance between them, he was never able to love her up close.
Spencer had loved Luke in all the ways he’d ever heard talked about. It was a story book kind of love, the likes of which Spencer never expected to find. Luke was supposed to be the end of Spencer’s story and even sometimes still he struggled to really comprehend that it was over.
Him showing up here could have been detrimental to Spencer’s mental health. If he hadn’t been for you.
He knew already, in spite of how little time he’d known you, that you were the big love of his life. And Luke somehow knew it too.
“You were the love of my life.”
“I know.”
“But I wasn’t yours.”
For the last two years Spencer hadn’t been able to let himself consider the way in which his departure hurt Luke. He only had the capacity to focus on his own well-being.
Maybe that was selfish of him. He disappeared without a goodbye to anyone, he owed Luke a goodbye at the very least.
But Spencer hadn’t thought about the hurt that would cause, could only reconcile himself with his own need to escape. Seeing Luke made him acutely aware of just how much pain his absence had caused.
“I expected…maybe I hoped that I wasn’t the only one still pining like an idiot.”
In truth Spencer had been pining, just not for Luke. Spencer had been pining for his old life, perhaps to a degree that included his ex boyfriend. He ached to go back to the time before prison, before he made the decision to go to Mexico. He yearned to do it over, to at the very least tell someone of his plans and not try and go it alone.
But if he hadn’t gone to Mexico, hadn’t gotten arrested and suffered at the hands of his inmates driving him to leave his former life behind he wouldn’t have ended up in Bandera. He wouldn’t have had that run in with Rusty which left him injured at the side of the road.
He would never have met you.
Was he really so in love with you that he would go through all that trauma again in another life if it meant it led to you? That didn’t seem like a rabbit hole that needed traversing and so he cast it from his mind.
He finished showering and dressed in clean jeans, a grey t-shirt and threw a black flannel shirt over the top while you slept. He ate a bowl of cereal and drank a mug of tea, took his new meds and left you breakfast on the counter before heading out to the stable.
He took the horses one by one up the field, leaving Rusty for last. He practically had to wrestle her bridle on her as she was still belligerent towards him. She huffed and stomped her hooves aggressively but Spencer was never one to be beaten.
Eventually he managed to get the thing over her head and lead her out to join the others. Once free to roam she was quick to Willow’s side. Since the trip to Medina Lake the two mares had been inseparable. Spencer had no idea what had transpired to make the two horses become friends but he wished Rusty would warm up to him the way she had his steed.
It occurred to him then that he would probably have to give this place up. With you on the run and on Luke’s radar there was no way the two of you could stay here. Perhaps you could take Willow and Rusty, but Franklin and Wilbur and his cattle wouldn’t be able to follow. Maybe he’d ask around town if anyone was looking to acquire more land and animals to go with it.
The thought made him a little wistful. He liked his ranch, he liked this life. It had been alien to him at first but in time it had become so beautifully ordinary. Perhaps the two of you could find another ranch somewhere, start over together somewhere Luke or Phil would never find you.
He swallowed that thought down, not wanting to ruin what could be one of his last days here by getting sentimental. He leaned against the fence and watched the horses as they grazed and interacted with one another.
He would surely miss this little slice of paradise.
***
Luke emerged from Grant’s ranch house little over an hour later, his hangover a long distant memory. As he stepped out onto the large porch, he actually had a smile on his face.
“Can’t lie to ya, I’m plumb grateful you decided to come back up here.” Grant smiled at him in the doorway, wearing nothing but a pair of sinfully tight fitting boxers.
Luke felt himself blushing, something he rarely ever did as he took a last look at the strong body leaning against the door jamb.
Grant’s muscles had muscles, every inch of him sculpted to perfection. He wasn’t Luke's usual type, far from it, but there was something so devilishly alluring about the slightly imposing cowboy.
And it didn’t hurt that it was some of the best sex he’d ever had in his life.
“Me too.” Luke confessed, his cheeks burning red.
“Mighty shame you gotta mosey on back up to the city.” Grant smiled a little sadly at him.
“Yeah, it is.” Luke agreed. “I actually came here to ask for your number, maybe? If there’s any chance you’d wanna stay in touch? I know we live really far apart but, uh, I think that I might…quite like you.”
His cheeks were even brighter after his admittance and Grant’s smile grew. He reached out and cupped Luke’s jaw in his hand, drawing him closer so he could kiss him.
“You are one tall drink of ice tea, Luke Alvez.” Grant mumbled against his lips. “And I quite like you too. Gimme ya phone.”
Luke nodded dumbly and pulled his phone out of his pocket and handed it to Grant. Grant was quick to input his number into the device and hand it back to him.
“T-thanks.” Luke stuttered.
“You know I always had a hankering for more than this.” Grant sighed wistfully, casting an open palm across his land. “I was born and raised on this ranch. After my folks died they left this place to me. Never chose this life, it chose me. Always thought I’d get out of the south one day, move to some big city, ya know? New York, LA…maybe even DC. Unless that idea scares ya.”
“Why would it…why would it scare me?” Luke swallowed thickly at the implication.
“You seem like the jumpy sort.” Grant winked at him.
Luke sucked in a really deep breath before slowly exhaling. He briefly checked his watch, he was running out time to make his flight and he still had one more stop to make. But he couldn’t pull himself away.
“I was still processing an old break up. It ended suddenly and I never got any closure. But I think I have now, I think I’m ready to move on.” Luke spoke the words out loud and he truly meant them.
“Well that just makes me wanna slap my mama.” Grant smiled sweetly at him despite Luke’s obvious confusion at his sentiment. “I guess it might be high time for me to reconsider city life. New York, LA…”
“Or DC.” Luke finished him for him.
“Or DC.” Grant nodded, drawing him in for another kiss.
Luke allowed himself another few moments to be swallowed up by this delicious cowboy before he regretfully had to peel himself away before he missed his flight back home. Although in all honesty, he didn’t think that would have been the worst thing in the world.
***
You were finishing your tea at the kitchen counter when you heard footsteps on the gravel outside. You smiled to yourself, turning eagerly in your chair, ready to embrace Spencer upon his arrival.
But it wasn’t Spencer you saw heading towards the lodge.
You quickly slipped off the stool to the floor, scrabbling over to the corner you’d inhabited last night while Spencer and Luke had it out. You pulled your knees to your chest, trembling slightly as Luke Alvez’s heavy footsteps climbed the stairs.
A moment later there was a knock on the door. You held your breath.
Had you gotten Spencer’s affections all wrong? Was he simply placating you, distracting you so he could call Luke back here? It was imminent. Any minute now he would break down that door and slap his cuffs on your wrists before hauling your ass back to prison.
How could you have been so naive?
“Spencer?” Luke’s voice carried through the door as he knocked again. “You here, man?”
You hugged your legs, breathing as shallowly as possible in the hopes he might not realise you were there. If he went looking for Spencer you could quickly make a getaway.
“Look I don’t know if you’re ignoring me or you just don’t wanna talk to me but, uh…” he cleared his throat. “We didn’t forget your birthday. Penelope had a load of gifts FedEx’d out here and she made me promise you’d get them. You know she’d never forgive me if I came home with them. Guess I’ll just leave them here. Happy birthday for Friday.”
You heard a shuffling and soon after the footsteps took to the stairs again. You dared to get to your feet, crouching down below the window and peaking outside.
The back of Luke’s head retreated back towards a dark SUV. You watched as he slipped inside of it and then the engine started. It wasn’t long before he was pulling away.
You frowned to yourself, standing up to your full height. So Spencer hadn’t called him, hadn’t turned you in?
You exhaled a shaky breath and crept to the door. It could have been a trap but you didn’t think it was. Upon opening the door you saw a pile of gifts wrapped with sparkly bows and bright wrapping paper. On top was a stack of cards.
Still frowning, you gathered them all up and carried them to the counter. Varying handwriting adorned the multi coloured envelopes, addressed to the likes of Reid, Boy Wonder, Doc and Spence.
You shook your head. So there was one thing Spencer had kept from you, his birthday.
You made the decision to hide the gifts away, scurrying up to your lodge and stuffing them away in a cupboard.
You wanted to do something nice for Spencer, you owed him after everything he’d done for you. Today was Wednesday, Friday was two days away, you were sure you could come up with something before then. You would just have to work fast to put the wheels into motion.
***
“Remind me again why I can’t come with you?” Spencer’s brows pinched together as he looked up at you with a pout from the couch.
“Is it really such a big deal? I just want to go on my own.” You rolled your eyes. He was so persistent.
You needed to go into town and buy some supplies for the small birthday celebration you were planning for him. Yesterday had been busy with cleaning out the stables and barn and you hadn’t had a second alone to contemplate his birthday. It was now Thursday and you just needed to get away from him for an hour or so, but he was being petulant.
“I don’t like the idea of you going into town on your own.” He grumbled.
“Why, I’ve done it before? And we both know I can handle myself.” You scoffed.
“I…those men at the bar, the way they looked at you…I didn’t like it.” His cheeks flushed red.
You couldn’t help but smile and you sidled closer to him, lowering yourself to sit on his thigh, wrapping your arms around his neck.
“Spence, are you jealous?” You smirked at him.
“Yes,” he nodded frantically. “With good reason too, or have you forgotten about making out with Grant?”
“That was different.” You ran your fingers through the hair at the nape of his neck. “You were adamant we were just friends. I’m fairly certain we’re more than that now. I would never cheat on you Spencer, you understand that right?”
“Hmm,” he hummed at the feeling of your fingers in his hair. “Might need a little convincing.”
You chuckled at his whiny words, his lips pouting, desperate to feel yours on his. You relented and offered him a chaste kiss before pulling back.
“That’s your lot.” You went to stand but suddenly Spencer’s hand was round your waist, holding you down.
“No, no. Not enough. Not convinced.” He clung to you.
“Is someone a needy boy today?” You laughed, giving him another soft kiss.
“Hmm,” he nodded. “So needy.”
You allowed him another kiss and this time his hand flew to the back of your head to keep you close. His tongue was parting your lips within a matter of seconds. You couldn’t pull yourself away even if you wanted to, the ferocity of the kiss rendering you instantly dumb.
He pulled you properly into his lap so you were straddling his thighs, before his good hand disappeared under your shirt and his fingers brushed across the skin of your back.
“Spencer,” you mumbled into his lips. “I need to go out.”
“You don’t need to go anywhere. What you need to do is get rid of some of these clothes.”
“Spencer,” your tone was warning.
“Whatever you so desperately need to go out for can wait, surely?” His fingers toyed with your bra clasp beneath your shirt.
“If you hadn’t been so tired last night and fallen asleep before I’d even brushed my teeth, you could have gotten some then.” You pulled back from his lips and poked the tip of his nose with your index finger.
“Are you really going to turn me down? When I could freak out at any second, you have to take these good moments when they come, Y/N.” He allowed himself to joke, joking helped him cope.
Your eyes flit down towards his crotch and the bulge in his slacks. The sight was enough for you to shudder and he knew he had you.
You cupped his jaw in your hand, rubbing your fingers into his ever growing stubble. He looked at you through large doe eyes.
“You are so needy today.” You clucked. “What has gotten into you?”
“I have no idea.” Spencer shook his head. “But can we just go with it?”
“What exactly do you want, Doctor Reid?” You cocked an eyebrow at him and he hissed.
“Fuck, it’s so hot when you say that.” He pulled you back to kiss you again. “T-touch me? P-please?”
You moaned into his mouth and grinded against his lap. Your hands wandered down the fabric of his t-shirt until you came to the hem.
He sat forward so you could lift it over his head, tossing it aside before you helped him remove your own. His fingers were soon back on your bra clasp and he popped it open expertly, practically ripping the garment from your body.
You sat back, looking at him with a smile. His eyes were unashamedly on your chest.
“Don’t just stare, Doctor.” You scoffed, reaching into his lap and palming him through his slacks.
He bucked into your hand with a growl at the same time as he bowed his head, hurriedly taking your nipple into his mouth.
You closed your eyes as his tongue lapped over your hardened nipple. You stroked him through his pants whilst working the button.
Once you had them open you reached straight into his boxers and tugged his shaft free of its confines. He hissed again, teeth grazing against your nipple.
He sat back as you started to stroke him, returning the favour and starting to unbutton your own pants. Much like you he didn’t bother removing them and instead dove his hand straight inside your panties.
You fisted his shaft at the sensation of his finger brushing over your clit. You kept your eyes on each other firmly.
“God I love you,” he panted, rolling his hips into your hand.
“I love you too, Doctor.” You moaned the last word as he pressed against your swollen bud. “And fuck I love those fingers.”
“I feel the same about your hand.” He nodded.
A second finger joined his first, using them both in tandem to rub circles on your clit. You puffed out a heavy breath, causing your breasts to bounce and Spencer’s gaze faltered to them.
“Good god I missed boobs. You have no idea. I am such a boob man.” He was leaning closer again and taking your nipple in his mouth once more.
You moaned and started to increase your speed on his cock, his own fingers working their magic between your legs.
You rocked back and forth on his hand whilst he similarly bucked into your own. He was frantically sucking your nipple, intent on bringing you as much pleasure as physically possible.
It really didn’t take either of you long to orgasm. Somehow the two of you knew each other's bodies so well already that it was such a simple thing for you both to bring the other to your peaks.
Spencer succumbed first, still suckling on your nipple when he came with a loud groan and bucked into your hand. You felt his come spilling over your hand and probably over his pants too.
The feeling of his hot seed on your skin and the way he writhed beneath you as you continued leisurely stroking him tipped you over the edge soon after and you shuddered on top of him while your head fell to your chest.
You collapsed on him, both of you panting loudly and fitfully. He wrapped his arm around you and kissed the top of your head.
“See?” He panted. “Wasn’t that so much better than whatever you were going to do?”
“I’m still going out.” You mumbled into the skin of his sweat slicked chest. “Just as soon as I can get my legs to cooperate.”
It was another five minutes before you were able to move and while you redressed and cleaned yourself up, Spencer went back to pouting at you in his disdain for you leaving him alone.
“You were alone for a long time before I came along, you’ll be fine for an hour. You’re a big tough cowboy, remember.” You chuckled, placing a kiss on his lips before heading to the door.
“I still don’t understand why I can’t come with you.” He grumbled.
“Because I don’t need a chaperone.” You rolled your eyes. “Read a book or something, time will fly by.”
He continued to sulk as you headed for the door and swung it open, before closing it behind yourself. Seconds after you left, Spencer started to spiral. The guilt came in waves, thick and fast. His come was still sticky on his stomach, in his pants. He felt sick out of nowhere.
The thing he felt the most ashamed about was the fact he hadn’t felt ashamed until during the act. He felt guilty for not feeling guilty.
He allowed himself to forget what had happened to him. How could he ever forget? And just like that he was crumbling, tumbling down into an ether he knew all too well.
He embraced it, didn’t try to tether himself, didn’t bother to stop the inevitable. He deserved this, he deserved to suffer for letting himself feel an ounce of happiness.
He wasn’t going to fight it, so instead he let it happen. The anger swelling in his chest, the blurring of his vision. He was ready for it. A part of him welcomed it.
So he fell into the fringes of reality, no longer in control of his own fucked up mind. Divorce the body from the brain. Detach from a world that had only ever wanted him to suffer.
Spencer Reid faded away, or at the very least his mind did. And soon all that was left was a shell of himself, a husk of a man who had seen far too much pain.
He was but an empty vessel. Vacant. Void. Hollow. He surrendered to the momentary bliss he was enveloped into by the promise of detaching from this plane of existence.
This was why he didn’t want you to leave. He was safe when you were here. When you’re gone anything could happen.
And so he simply relented to it. He was so far past the point of being broken that he may as well lean into the fray.
Hello darkness, my old friend.

STOLITZØ - FIFTY FIVE
Blitzø lay in bed, sulking, and contemplated life. And death. And if “death by boner” was a thing, when Loona poked her head in the room.
He immediately perked up.
“Hey’a Loony Toony!” He threw his arms wide. “Come give your dad a hug!”
Loona smiled and rolled her eyes.
Blitzø drooped and made a pouty face.
Loona snorted.
“I was just checking to see if you’d recovered from your,” she tried to cover a laugh with a cough. “‘Ordeal’ earlier.” She couldn’t help but choke on her laughter.
Blitzø’s face flattened. He was not impressed.
“Sorry.” Loona cleared her throat. “I was checking if you’ve recovered enough that you could take some visitors?”
Blitzø perked up a little.
“Oh? Yes. Sure.” He smiled.
Loona backed out and yelled, “Hey f*ckwits! He’s good!”
“Honestly, Loona.” Moxxie stalked in the room. “Language. Puhleez.”
Loona flipped him off, winked at Blitzø and left.
“Come on, hun.” Millie skipped in the room. “Let it go.”
“Ma ‘n Pa send their best.” Millie hopped up on a chair by the bed and hugged Blitzø. “They wished they could come by to visit but things are just too busy on the ranch.”
“Oh that’s fine,” Blitzø smiled. “I appreciate the thought, but I’d never expect anyone to visit me.”
Millie rolled her eyes and playfully punched him on the shoulder.
Blitzø smiled sheepishly and rubbed his shoulder.
“They did send you something though.”
Millie pulled a piece of paper from her pocket. She unfolded it and handed him what turned out to be a photo of a Hell-filly.
Blitzø’s eyes shone with giant hearts.
“Ma thought you’d like her,” Millie giggled.
“She… She’s BEAUTIFUL.” He hugged the photo to his chest, his eyes sparkling with joy.
“Pa said when you’re back to a hundred percent, you can visit and help train her.”
Blitzø squee’d in excitement, bouncing up and down in bed.
Millie gave Blitzø a mischievous look. “I said you’d probably be too busy with work, though.”
“MILLIE!!” Blitzø screamed and tried to grab her, but she leapt off the bed and out of reach, laughing hysterically.
“YOU GET BACK HERE AND YOU F*CKING CALL YOUR PARENTS THIS! F*CKING! INSTANT!!”
Millie fell into Moxxie’s arms and laughed until she was crying.
“Don’t MAKE me come OVER THERE!!” Blitzø tried to crawl to the edge of his bed, but got tangled in blankets and his IV.
Moxxie left Millie to her laughter and went to stop Blitzø from hurting himself.
“Sir.” Moxxie tried to ease Blitzø back. “Millie was joking.”
“Well it WASN’T. F*CKING. FUNNY!” Blitzø shook a fist at Millie, who fell over in her fit of laughter.
Moxxie rolled his eyes.
“Don’t worry, Sir. Millie promised Joe and Lin that you’d visit as soon as you were able.” He helped Blitzø untangle himself from his blankets and settle in. “And Lin wants you to name the filly.”
“REALLY?!” Blitzø’s eyes teared up as he looked over at Millie.
She grinned ear-to-ear and nodded.
“I f*cking LOVE your parents, Mills.” Blitzø sniffled.
Millie joined Moxxie at Blitzø’s bedside.
“You can thank them when you see’em,” she smiled warmly at Blitzø. “But be sure to thank Moxxie first.”
“Millie, don’t. We talked about this” Moxxie tried to step back, but Millie grabbed his shoulders and lifted him off the floor so he couldn’t run away.
Blitzø looked at them confused.
“My precious Mox-Mox arranged all of this with my family, Blitzø.”
“Millie, please. I didn’t really do…”
Millie squeezed Moxxie in a tight hug and cut him off.
“He did everything!” Millie grinned, looking at Blitzø. “Cuz he loooooooves you! Said we’re a faaaaamily!”
“Millie!” Moxxie squeaked and struggled to get free from Millie’s grasp.
F*cking Moxxie… You would…
Blitzø smiled to himself.
“Thanks, Mox.” He looked up at the M&M’s bashfully. “I uh…”
Blitzø cleared his throat. He looked away and scratched his eyebrow, trying desperately to look casual.
F*ck sakes… Stop getting f*cking emotional…
“I appreciate you…”
Millie smiled and put Moxxie down. Moxxie was blushing every shade of red imaginable.
“Thank you, Si…” he cleared his throat. “Blitzø. I appreciate you too.”

Part 1 Part 2
AUGUST 8TH
“So what are you cooking?” Janelle asked as she sat on one of the stools at the kitchen island.
“I’m not cooking nothin’.” Josh said as he walked over to a drawer and pulled out take-out menus. He placed them on the counter and looked at her. “You pick.”
“Are you actually going to let me pick or are you going to-” She stopped talking when he pushed the menu from the pizza place that he wanted to eat from in front of her. “Why do you always do that?” She asked, rolling her eyes and picking up the menu.
“Cause I know it irks you.” She rolled her eyes again and set the menu down.
“Are you not tired of eating from this place? Don’t you want to try new things?” She asked reaching for the other menus, but he picked them up and put them back in the drawer.
“Nah, I know what I like.” He said, keeping his eyes on her. She held his gaze before looking back down at the menu scoffing when he  laughed at her.
“I’m gonna go order the pizza.” She said getting up from her chair and walking into the living room.
“Don’t forget the wings! And the ranch!” He called out after her. He let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding when she left the kitchen. He sighed and scrubbed his hand over his face. “Fuck” he whispered. Honestly, before he saw her again at Smackdown he never thought about getting back together with her. She left him not the other way around. Sure he wanted to know why she left but that was it. But having her here in the house they used to share changed things.
“I ordered it. They said 30 minutes. I’m gonna time them” Janelle said as she put the timer on her phone. “What’s wrong?” She asked, seeing the look on his face.
“What are we doin’” He asked, walking closer to her.
“What do you mean?” She asked, feeling her throat start to dry. Now was not the time for this conversation.
“Us. Me, You.” He said motioning between the two of them. “What are we doin’?  You wanna come back into Xavier’s life that's fine. But what about us?”  Janelle stood there staring at him. She didn’t know what to say honestly. She opened her mouth but nothing came out.
“Josh.” Was all she could say. She still loved him and had feelings for him. But like she told him earlier, she didn’t want to wake up one day and hate him. He shouldn’t have to go through her issues with her. He should be with someone that could love him unconditionally.
“Janelle,” He said, looking into her eyes. “Do you want to be with me?”  He wanted to be with her and he knew, just off the fact that she was still here, in their house- that she wanted to be with him.  She still didn’t say anything. “Do you still love me?” He whispered softly.
“Josh, you know I still love you. And of course I wanna be with you” She finally said. He cupped her jaw in his hand.
“So come back home Nelle.” He furrowed his eyebrows when she shook her head.
“It’s not that simple Josh.”
“What’s not?” Josh asked and Janelle took a deep breath and closed her eyes.
“I can’t just come home, Josh. I hurt you and Xavier by leaving. I can’t just come back and expect everything to be the same.”
“I already said I forgive you. You told me your reason for leaving and I forgive you. Xavier is definitely going to forgive you. We just want you home.” She squeezed her eyes shut as her tears started to pour.
“I wish I never left.” She whispered and Josh nodded his head, using the hand that wasn’t cupping her face to wipe her tears away.
“I wish you would’ve stayed too. But we can’t change the past, Nelle.”
“I know that but imma feel bad about it forever.” Josh sighed.
“You wanna make it up to me then?” She nodded and he smiled.
“Move back in.” She laughed.
“Josh - “ He cut her off.
“We can eat dinner, go rent a uhaul and move you back in tonight.” She bit her lip and nodded. “Yeah, that’s what you want?” When she nodded again he smiled and pressed his lips to hers in a soft kiss, wrapping his arms around her waist. She moaned into the kiss and pulled back before it could go too far. Pecking his lips a couple more times until the timer on her phone went off.
“They’re late.” She whispered, causing him to laugh and release her. Just then a knock sounded at the door. “Damn, they lucky.” She said, grabbing money out of her wallet and running towards the door.
Josh smiled as he watched her run towards the front door. He dreamed of this moment for months, having Janelle back and the three of them being a family again. He rushed over to her when she came back into the kitchen holding the pizza and wings.
“Damn, 3 pizzas?” Janelle just stared at him.
“You can eat a whole one by yourself. And you said Xavi was with Kishi.”
“Good point.”  He said as he put the pizza’s on the counter.  He watched as she busied herself around the kitchen, getting the plates so that she could set the table. He went to help but the sound of Xavier calling his name stopped him.
“DADDY! Pop-pop said a bad word.” Josh laughed and went into the foyer, where his dad was helping Xavier take off his shoes.
“You know the rules dad. Gotta put a dollar in the jar.” Rikishi rolled his eyes before grabbing a dollar bill out of his wallet and handing it to Xavier who smiled and rushed into the living room to put the dollar in the jar.
“NELLY!” Xavier screamed when he saw her in the dining room. He ran towards her when she opened her arms. “What you doing here.” He said, his voice muffled because he had his face pressed into her neck.
“I thought it would be fun to eat dinner together.” She laughed when he squealed and hugged her tighter. “Alright, let's go wash our hands.” She led him to the downstairs bathroom, stopping to give Rikishi a hug when she walked past him.
When Xavier and Janelle came back into the dining room. Josh and his dad were already seated. She helped Xavier into his seat before getting him and herself a slice of pizza.  The four of them ate and let Xavier do most of the talking, which he didn’t mind.
After dinner, Janelle told them to go into the living room and she would clean up. She needed the alone time to process what had happened.  Her and Josh kissed. She agreed to move back in. She groaned at the thought of breaking her lease.
“You alright in here.” Janelle turned around and smiled at Kishi.
“Yeah I’m okay.” She said as she finished rinsing off the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher.
“So, you and Joshua are back together?.” He asked, leaning against the island that was across from the sink. She looked up at  him and nodded.
“I think we are.” He smiled at her.
“Good. I’m happy yall were able to figure out whatever yall were going through.” He said as walked around the counter and held his arms out for a hug. She smiled and gave him a hug.
Tumblr media
After Kishi left, the three three of them settled into the living room, getting ready to watch a movie. Janelle smiled and patted the spot next to her when Xavier came back downstairs after getting into his night clothes and brushing his teeth.
“I wanna talk to you for a bit.” Janelle said as Xavier plopped down next to her. He looked up at her and nodded his head. “Remember when I left a couple of months ago.” She felt her heartbreak when he looked down at his spiderman pants and nodded.
“You're not leaving again are you?” He asked sadly and Janelle quickly shook her head ‘no’ even though he couldn’t see her.
“No, bud. I wanted to apologize for leaving you. I know I hurt your feelings by leaving and I promise to never do it again.” Janelle was crying now. Having to stop a couple to gather herself.
“You promise?” He asked, his voice so small and innocent sounding. It made her feel even worse.
“I promise Xavier. I will never leave you again.”  She let out a sob/laugh when he threw himself into her arms, giving her a tight hug, tighter than the one he gave her at Smackdown.
“Can we watch Sing now? She laughed and nodded her head. “DAD! Come on!.”
Tumblr media
Once again Xavier was asleep 15 minutes into the movie. Janelle giggled when his little body let out a snore.
“I’ll take him upstairs.” She whispered to Josh, who nodded his head and shut the tv off when she picked Xavier up and walked up the steps. Josh made sure their house was locked up before setting the alarm and walking up the steps.
Janelle tucked Xavier into his bed and kissed him on the forehead. “Good night bubba.” She whispered, before turning on his nightlight and leaving the room, making sure to leave the door cracked - Xavier hated sleeping with the doors closed all the way.
She gulped as she made her way down the hall to her and Josh's old room. Well not old anymore since she agreed to move back in.
They made eye contact when she came into the room and stopped by the entrance.
“I got you a shirt.” He said pointing to the  t-shirt he had laid out on the bed for her. She smiled and thanked him before walking into the bathroom to shower and change.
“Josh I need a shower cap- “ She stopped when he held her butterfly shower cap in his hand. “ I was looking for that.”  He shrugged.
“You left it here and I couldn’t throw it out.” She took it from him with a smile and walked back into the bathroom.
Tumblr media
Janelle sighed as she came out of the bathroom, only wearing Josh’s shirt. “My skin is gonna be so dry in the morning.” She said as she crawled into bed next to him. He jumped when she pressed her feet against his leg, making her laugh.
“Jesus what the fuck. Did you use any hot water!”  She cackled when he grabbed her other leg so she wouldn’t touch him with it. “Put something on the t.v” He said tossing the remote to her before walking into the bathroom.
She looked up when he came out with one of her bottles of lotion that she left. When she raised an eyebrow at him he just shrugged. “Couldn’t throw it out”. He said before looking at the t.v and groaning.
“Nah i’m not watching Grey’s again.” Rolling his eyes when she pouted at him.
“Come on J. McSteamy is about to make his first appearance.” She said as she started to lotion up her skin.
“Nell i’ve seen this one episode with you at least 10 times.” He groaned and flopped on the bed when she pouted again. “Fine!” He mumbled chuckling when she happily pressed play.
Tumblr media
She made it halfway through the episode before falling asleep on his chest. He watched her sleep, his chest filling up with nothing but love. For the past 4 months he felt empty. Like a shell of himself. But now, he felt whole again, he felt happy. He felt content.
Reaching over into the drawer of his nightstand he pulled out the blue tiffany box and opened it. He took the ring out and grabbed Janelle’s left hand that was placed on his stomach and slipped the ring on her ring finger.
“Hopefully you don't slap the shit outta me in the morning.” He whispered kissing her hand before settling down and falling asleep.
Tumblr media
Janelle woke up the next morning before everyone else. She sighed when she realized she didn’t even have a tooth brush yet. She checked in on Xavier, smiling at his sleeping form before going downstairs to get breakfast started.
She reached up into the cabinet to grab the pancake mix, her eyes widening at the diamond ring on her ring. She stared at it before screaming.
Josh smiled to himself, having woken up as soon as she left the bed. He rushed down the steps and put on a fake worried face.
“What! What happened!” He yelled rushing into the kitchen. She was standing by the refrigerator, staring down at the ring. She tried to talk but all that came out was a choked sob.
“You wanna marry me?” She whispered after, calming down.” He nodded his head.
“Hell yes. I want to marry you.” That was all she needed to hear before jumping into his arms.
“I wanna marry you too.” She said before crashing her lips onto his.

Could I please request #3 from the fluff prompts with Javier Peña pretty please? ♥️
midge! I hope you got your sundae 🤍
I kinda of tweaked the prompt a lil bit here but I hope you like it, and you know I had to go back to the ranch for this too…
burning questions - the ranch - javier peña x fem!reader
word count: 1.4k
warnings: none! tooth-rotting fluff, javi is an over-thinker
Tumblr media
Javi’s been thinking about it.
Well, more than thinking about it.
To be quite honest, the thing’s been burning a hole in his pocket since he picked it up. More than a week now. It’d be a lie to say this was an impulsive decision — on the contrary, he’s never felt more sure about anything else before — but now he has to figure out the how, and he didn’t think it would be this hard.
The biggest problem, he’s realizing, is that when you’re both home, you’re never far away from each other. Always within arm’s reach, close enough to know what the other is doing. It’s not an overbearing presence by any stretch, but it just means it’s going to take a bit more tact and planning to get things how he wants them.
But then his brain starts going…is that what you want?
Javier has always been an over-thinker. When it came to his career, it worked in his favour more often than not, but this wouldn’t be the first time he’s shot something to hell in his personal life because he can’t get his brain to shut down.
Steve, shockingly, is little help.
“You’re gonna do it!” his old partner hoots into the phone. “Javier Peña, you old dog! I knew she was the one for you, brother.”
Javi rubs his hand across his brow. You’re in the living room, your nose in a book, and he purposely left the TV a little louder than normal, in hopes it would drown out his phone call. “Yeah, yeah, you’re a savant, Steve, honestly. But listen, I need…how did you propose to Connie?”
“What?”
“When you proposed to Connie, how’d you do it?”
“Javi, are you asking me how to ask a woman to marry you?” His friend pauses. “Wait, haven’t you done this before?”
“Yes,” he whisper-sighs into the phone. “But with Lorraine, it was different. It was…obligation. It wasn’t special.” He glances toward the living room, just able to see the top of your head from where he’s stood in the kitchen. “She has no idea, Steve. At least, I hope she doesn’t, and I just…I need to make it special, you know?”
“Brother, it’s gonna be special no matter what you do, you realize that, right? You two love each other. It’s simple as that.”
“But—”
“I carried around Connie’s ring in my pocket for months, trying to do exactly what you’re trying to do right now. I was waiting for the right moment, the perfect moment, but here’s the thing, Jav: that moment doesn’t exist. If you keep waiting for it to feel perfect, you’ll be waiting a long time.”
“You’re right,” Javi admits, scrubbing his hand over his chin. “Wait, so how’d you do it?”
Steve chuckles lowly. “Middle of the grocery store. Connie asked if I wanted chocolate or vanilla ice cream and I got down on one knee right there in the freezer aisle.”
Javi laughs back. “You fuckin’ cheeseball.”
“Takes one to know one,” his partner shoots back. “Go, Jav. Whatever you do, it’ll be great.”
The line disconnects, and Javier sets the phone back in it’s cradle. From the living room, he sees you perk up on the couch, turning to look at him. “Baby, would you bring me a glass of water?”
Baby, would you do me the honour of becoming my wife?
He nearly says it right then. The ring’s sitting in the chest pocket of his shirt. His eyes linger on you a moment, the easy smile on your face and the bright in your eyes. He’s lost for that second, caught up in the way he’s looking at you, the way you’re looking back. How beautiful you’d look walking down an aisle toward him, that same brightness in your gaze…
“Javi?”
“Yeah,” he replies, snapping out of his reverie. “Water, yeah, be right there.”
The rest of the night passes, and between commercials on the TV, Javi thinks it over. Over-thinks it, over and over and over. Steve’s words play on repeat in his mind, and the ring in his pocket feels white-hot. At one point, you adjust yourself on the couch, angling your body back against his chest, and panic rises in him. Can you feel the little round outline, the way it’s burning a hole in his skin?
Around midnight, you declare yourself suitably tired, turning to give him a soft kiss before pushing off the couch, carrying your book and your half-empty glass of water out of the living room. Javi listens to the quiet pad of your feet up the stairs, hears the creak of the bedroom door.
Silently, he fishes the ring from his pocket, turns it over in the dim lamplight. He recalls his father’s face when he told Chucho his intentions, that he was sure you were the one, that he wanted to ask you to be his wife. It was a far cry from the conversation they’d had when Javi proposed to Lorraine all those years ago, and the old man had stared Javier down with wet eyes. “I knew she was the one, Jav. Right from the first time I met her. She makes you so happy, mijo, and it makes me so happy to see it.”
It’s been a while now since his mother had been able to wear her wedding rings; the medications she took made her hands puffy, and while she usually wore them on a chain around her neck, when he went to the nursing home to talk to his dad, she unclasped the chain and slid the engagement ring from it. Simple gold, a singular diamond flanked by two sapphires. She’d pressed the ring into his palm and leaned in and kissed her son’s cheek.
“Be happy, mijo. Always.”
Now, he stares at the ring, pinched between his fingers, the diamond glittering in the light, throwing sparkles back at him. He presses his lips together, his mind going a million miles a minute.
Whatever you do, it’ll be great.
Javi flicks off the television, turns off the lights, and checks that the front door is locked before heading upstairs. You’ve left the light on, and soft orange light pours from the bedroom into the hall. He stops in the bathroom, brushes his teeth, runs a damp hand through his hair. When he steps inside the bedroom, he sees it’s the light on his nightstand that you’ve left on, and you’re asleep, sprawled on your side with your arm reaching across his side of the bed, your eyes softly closed, lips gently parted.
Smiling to himself, Javi walks over and sets the ring on his nightstand. He crosses to the closet, strips down to his boxers and puts his clothes in the laundry.
You stir slightly as he gets under the blankets with you, automatically shifting closer as he lays on his back and tugs your arm over his bare middle. Your nails dig in slightly and it makes him shiver.
It’s a moment before he realizes it’s your left hand slung across his waist, and the plan hatches quickly. He executes it before his mind can get the better of him.
Javi reaches for the ring, careful not to jostle or rouse you best he can. Then he takes your hand, rubbing his thumb across your knuckles before sliding the diamond onto your ring finger.
It’s a perfect fit.
He brings your hand to his lips, peppering kisses along your fingertips, rubbing his thumb over the ring. He doesn’t mind if he wakes you now, and sure enough, after a few moments, your eyes flutter open.
“Javi,” you mumble sleepily, squinting against the soft light. “Wha—” Your words stop short when your eyes land on your own hand, the ring now sitting on your finger. “Javier Peña.”
The corner of his mouth quirks up. He kisses the pad of your thumb. “I cannot fathom my life without you in it,” he murmurs, adjusting slightly so he can look at you fully. “You get that, right? There’s no one else for me, and there never will be. You’re it, querida. You always have been.”
“Javi,” you say again, pulling your hand out of his grip to cup his cheek in your palm, swiping your thumb along his cheekbone. “You…”
“Marry me, baby,” he whispers, turning to press a kiss to the palm of your hand. “Please.”
There are tears in your eyes, clumping your lashes together.
“Yes.”

Spidey -> Ethan Landry Parte Uno
In which the web slinging superhero is closer than you think.
(Sorry I just LOVE this idea I can’t)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You groaned as you entered your apartment, dropping your cheer bag on the counter as you moved into the kitchen. It’d a long day at school—longer than normal—and you were exhausted. So you kicked off your cheer shoes and pulled your headache-inducing ponytail free, running your hands through your hair to massage your scalp.
Tara texted, making sure you got home, and you replied quickly.
Tare Bear 💜
Tara: hey girl, make it?
Y/N: yeah. about to eat another boring salad.
Tara: couch was on our ass today, what the hell? apparently she said we all need to lose five pounds before the game in two weeks
Y/N: I’m already swamped with homework wtf
Y/N: gym in the morning?
Tara: yeah, I’ll pick you up at five
You turned off your phone and grumbled to yourself, making your way towards your room. The siren song of ranch was loud but, if coach was serious, you’d do the boring alternative of a little bit of olive oil and lemon juice. As you made it into your room you yelped as a fist hit the window, knocking aggressively.
“What the hell…” you mumbled, opening up your window to glare at Spider-Man. “I was just about to drown my sorrows with a gallon of water. What do you want?”
“I sprained my wrist.” The spandex-wearing hero explained, already sneaking into your bedroom as you gave him space. “Help me out, doc?”
“Cant you go to a real doctor?” You asked, rolling your eyes as you moved to your dresser where you kept your medical supplies. As a third year med student, and a good keeper of secrets, you’d been tending to Spider-Man’s various injuries since freshmen year.
“But you’re so much nicer. And no, I cant.”
“What about Stark?” You asked, fishing out a bottle of Advil. “Doesn’t he have some sort of fancy doctor to help out Avengers?” You wiggled your eyebrows, glancing over as Spider-Man plopped onto your bed.
“Not an Avenger.” He mumbled, rolling his wrist around. You couldn’t see his face—had never seen it—but you were sure he was wincing. “Hey, nice uniform. Had fun with your pompons?”
“Yeah I know you like my uniform.” You scoffed, moving over. It was true, your short skirt and tight top did wonders for your figure. “Wish coach liked it. She’s saying we all need to lose five pounds before the game.”
“But you—I mean, you look great you—I mean your body is..” he trailed off, embarrassed, and your smile turned feline. “I just mean you look good. And stuff.”
“How sweet.” You laughed lightly, passing him the Advil. “I’ll get you some ice. You can take the meds while Im in the kitchen.”
You left the room, moving to grab your ice pack as you worked. It was strange, honestly. He’d been seeing you for a while now, your interactions friendly if not a bit flirtatious, but you still didn’t know anything about him. And weirdly enough, you wanted to. It wasn’t that you liked him or anything, but…
You went back to the bedroom, covering your eyes comically as you pretended to feel around.
“Covered up, Spidey?” You asked, fighting back a laugh when his chuckle filled the space between you.
“Yeah. Thanks.”
You uncovered your eyes and moved forward, offering the ice-pack. When he took it, his covered fingers met your own, the smooth fabric of the suit cool against your skin. You fought a suddenly sharp inhale and backed up, gesturing to the window.
“Well, um. Goodnight.” You said, smiling a tad bit awkwardly. “Gotta go make myself a pile of lettuce. See you around.”
“Wait—” he stood up suddenly and you blinked. “I mean—want to…do something? Like watch a movie or—?”
“Spidey.” You laughed, raising an eyebrow. “Superhero,” you started, pointing to him. “civilian.” You added, pointing to yourself. “Isn’t that like..against protocol?”
“No one’s gonna know.” He protested, moving a step forward. “Come on, aren’t we friends, Y/N?”
You stared, looking at his towering, muscular form. And you suddenly felt a twinge of disappointment. Or was it longing?
“I’m just your free medic.” You said, turning your back to him. “See you later!”
It was quiet for a moment so you glanced over your shoulder.
He was gone.
-
You were stretching when Ethan, Chad’s roommate and your nerdy friend, jogged up to you. He looked slightly sweaty and out of breath, like he’d run all the way from his late night Econ class to meet you at the football field. You raised your brows, wiping the dirt off your skirt as you stood, slinging your bag over your shoulder.
“Hey, E.” You greeted, scanning him up and down with your eyes. He’d agreed to drive you home after practice, claiming it was too dangerous to walk alone. Chad had already taken Tara home, so you were stuck with Ethan. “Run all the way here? Getting your laps in?”
“Yeah. I mean—no. Not all the way.”
“Sure you didn’t.” You laughed, looping your arm through his as you walked off the field, leading him towards the parking lot. “My valiant rescuer. What will I ever do to thank you?”
“Wanna get food?” He asked, raising his brows. “We can study for the test while we wait.”
“Yeah I—” you frowned. “I cant. Sorry. Sticking to salads and protein shakes right now, E.”
“Come on. You’re gorgeous. You’re coach is an idiot.” He told you, not really realizing what he’d said, but your brows knit.
“Did Tara tell you?” You asked, confused, and his cheeks reddened.
“Yeah I mean. Chad was talking about it. Saying Tara was pissed.”
“Rightfully so. We’re skinny enough as it is.” You complained, frowning as you made your way to his car. Then you paused, smiling a bit wickedly. “You think I’m gorgeous?”
Ethan was flustered, but smiled shyly as he opened the passenger door for you.
“Obviously.” He mumbled, brown eyes on yours, and you grinned.
“Awww, E.” You cooed, reaching up to pinch his cheek before you climbed into the car.
Later, clad in an oversized shirt, you sat next to Ethan on the couch, laughing. He was gagging dramatically, his own shake in front of him half-drank before he’d requested a sip of your own. Yours was with water, instead of milk, and was the vegan protein powder you kept in your pantry. He’d allowed you to convince him to drink a chocolate whey, not wanting to order the burger he’d wanted and have you suffer alone.
“God this is awful.” He griped, and you laughed loudly at his twisted up expression. “God how do you drink this?”
“Anything for cheer.” You giggled, and he rolled his eyes.
“Yeah, you and your pompoms.” He mumbled, and you poked him in the side.
“You like my pompoms.”
“You know I do.” He shot back, turning to look at you, and your heart stuttered. Then he glanced away, looking a bit nervous, before looking back. “I like you, Y/N.” He admitted, and you raised a brow, even as you blushed.
“I should hope so. We’re friends, after all.”
“I mean more.” He added, looking away awkwardly at your silence. “It’s fine if you don’t.”
But his breathing hitched a fraction when you took his face in your hand and made him look at you, scanning those gorgeous eyes of his for any hint of reluctance. When there was none you leaned forward, your own heart rate increasing as you pressed your mouth softly against his.
Okay, it was hardly a kiss. Only so much so that you could acknowledge the graze of his mouth against your own—could feel the curve and slope of his lips. But then he was jumping, yanking away, as one of the loudest ringtones you’d ever heard went off.
Even you startled, and you began to laugh before seeing the panicked look on his face.
“E? You okay—?”
“I gotta go. I’m sorry!” He said, expression hardening as he bolted to his feet and practically tore out of your apartment.
So you sat there feeling slightly dumb, your lips still tingling from the kiss.
-
Later, hours later, you were bored, watching Tombraider for the billionth time on your laptop.
Tare Bear 💜
Y/N: I kissed Ethan
Y/N: well, kind of
Tara: WHAT
Y/N: we were having fun and then I kissed him and he just left ??? Like did I do something wrong ??
Tara: you’re the hottest girl in school . Maybe he just panicked ??
You began typing again but froze when you heard the familiar knocks at your window, and you sighed loudly. You moved over and opened it up, giving Spider-Man a weighted stare.
“Not now, Web Boy. I’m going through a crisis.”
“I got cut!” He protested, grabbing the window with insane strength to stop you from pushing it down. “Come on, Y/N.”
You stared at those eyes, those white eyes of the mask, and rolled your own.
“Fine. Fine. I’m getting a glass of wine, want anything?”
“No thanks.” The hero said brightly, crawling inside when you moved away. You got your glass of wine before coming back and scoffing, staring at the cut he was so worried about.
“That is a paper-cut, Spidey. A paper cut.”
“What if it’s infected?” He asked, pouting, and you folded.
“Jesus, you’re going to be the death of me.” You grumbled, taking a large gulp before moving to your dresser to get anti-biotic salve and a bandaid. He’d taken the glove off on his right hand and was flexing his fingers over and over. “Speaking of death, I’m going to kill a boy. Maybe you could turn a blind eye from your hero shit and let me get away with it.”
“What?” He asked, voice cautious as you moved closer. “What…boy?”
“This guy he—“ you paused, sighing dramatically. “I don’t know why I’m telling you this. Give me your hand.”
“Wait, I wanna know.” He protested, holding his hand up high out of reach. The man was tall, for Christ’s sake.
“Seriously? Is this what we do now? Gossip about our love lives?” You smirked, fighting down the desire to tell him. You’d known him for a long time, now. Surely it wouldn’t be the worst thing to happen. “Are we braiding each other’s hair next? Pillow fighting?”
“We can pillow fight but I might take your eye out by accident.” When you opened your mouth to argue he pushed his hand down into your own, and the sudden warmth and smoothness of his skin startled you. “Tell me about this guy. Maybe I can help.”
You stared at him for a moment, your cheeks flushing a bit as you glanced down at the hand in your own. Your thumb grazed his knuckles involuntarily before you blinked, clearing your head and turning his fingers up so you could see them.
“Well..” you started, cleaning his finger off with a wet rag as you spoke. Truly he was such a baby. He used to only come to you for big things and now you were treating paper-cuts? “He’s kind of dorky, but I like that. He treats me like a human being and not just a piece of ass like a lot of frat guys do to cheerleaders.” You continued, wiping on some salve. “But…tonight I..” you swallowed, blinking down at his hand as you opened up a bandaid and smoothed it down. “I think I fucked up.”
“How?” Spider-Man asked, and he sounded slightly out of breath. You looked up at his face.
“I kissed him. Sort of. And then he just ran like—he literally could not get out of here fast enough.”
“Maybe he had to go somewhere?” Spidey offered, and didn’t let your hand go when you moved to set his free. “I don’t know I just think any guy would be stupid to run away from you.”
“Sure you do.”
“I do. Why do you think I keep coming back?”
You stared down at him, at the superhero you’d been tending to for so long, and something in you shifted. You moved towards him, your knees brushing his own where he sat on your bed. Your eyes were soft and filled with…Spider-Man didn’t know….but you looked so pretty and he…
“Is that why you come?” You asked, biting your bottom lip. “Because you…”
You reached out, touching his arm carefully, well aware the physical boundaries between you had never been crossed like this. And when you set your hands on his shoulders, he didn’t protest. If anything he leaned into your touch, both of your breaths catching when you braved going further and climbed onto his lap, settling yourself against him.
The latex was surprisingly smooth and warm against your bare legs, his hands immediately finding your waist to hold you still.
“Y/N.” He breathed, masked face so close to your own. “You know why I come back.” He said, and you could’ve sworn your heart skipped a beat. “I come back for you.”
You smiled softly at that, your hands sliding up his neck. But when your thumbs hooked under his mask and began to cautiously slide it up, he grabbed onto your wrists. You shot him a questioning look.
“Not—not yet.” He told you, and you frowned. You must’ve been losing your damn touch, because—
But then he was moving closer, hands finding your neck as his masked-mouth met yours, the foreign sensation strange but not at all unenjoyable. You could feel the shape of him, feel his warmth pressed against you, and it felt…familiar. Right. You made a soft noise and he gripped your hips tighter, your eyes pulling back to meet his.
“I wanna kiss you for real.” You murmured, running a thumb over his lips through the suit, and he shook his head.
“Not yet. Please. Give me time.”
You nodded, allowing him to slip his arms around your waist as he pulled you into him, your head resting in the crook of his neck as he breathed. You could’ve sworn he mumbled something but you ignored it, too busy allowing the masked hero to press your entire body against his.
Afterwards, what felt like minutes, he ran a hand through your hair and pulled you away.
“I have to go.” He said, sounded regretful. “I’ll see you again soon. I promise.”
“Okay.” You whispered, wishing you could see even a glimpse of his face, but understanding. “Okay. Goodnight.”
“Goodnight.” He repeated as you moved off him, but not before planting one last kiss against your head. He dove out the window and swung off into the night, doing an elaborate flip you knew he thought would impress you.
It did.

Tumblr media
Pairing: Cowboy Sheriff Dean x City Gal Reader
Summary: After your family cut you off, your great-aunt Laura invited you over to her ranch you often visited when you were just a child... You drive through the beautiful town until you accidentally graze a horse that just so happens to be the sheriffs...
Warnings: None
A/N: Let me know what you think and what your theories are!

•°Y/N POV°•
“Well hello darlin.” The green eyes look down at me, with a smirk.
You got to be kidding. I'm just waiting for John Quiñones, (From what would you do) to pop up from a bush and throw a microphone in my face. Nope. This was very real. Well fuck.
“What are you doing here? Following me like a creep I see.” I mutter under my breath as I cross my arms.
Clayton and Laura are trying to bite back their laughs, which earned an eyebrow raise from me, What were these two up two and what did they know that I didn't?
“Y/n... Honey this is our ranch hand and the town's sheriff. Have you both met before?” Aunt Laura finally speaks, as she looks between you and the tall green-eyed man.
My mouth parts, you've got to be shitting me. Can this day get any worse?
“I can say we have, did she tell ya how she grazed Lilah? I can lock her up if you want she's a little suspicious, especially with the littering of her ticket that was left on the street.” The man spoke while looking me up and down, with an amused grin.
Clayton crosses his arms as Laura covers her mouth she burst into a fit of giggles. “Hmm nah, I'll just have her clean the poor thing up for bathtime”
I mentally cringe, I've never been good with animals especially since they carry so much responsibility that I knew if I had gotten a pet I wouldn't be able to take care of it to the best of my ability and that wouldn't be fair to it.
“Dean, will you take her out back to the stables so I can go feed her please” Laura softly asked, he nodded as he had the horse follow him back to the stables.
Dean. Finally a name to the face. It suited him.
My uncle helps bring my bags up to the room they had ready, honestly I remembered it because it was the room I used to stay in, and let me tell you, it hadn't changed one bit.
The floors were creaky, bed frame older than me. Dust everywhere, maybe some spring cleaning would be nice. It was clear the room hadn't been used since I had left, and that left me a little sad that no one else visited them.
“Thanks...” I give a smile, Clayton pats my shoulder with a little nod before heading back downstairs.
Unlocking my phone I scroll through some of my messages, most from my mother...
Tumblr media
Never once had it been about what I wanted... I practically was raised by nannies which was better than nothing because some kids weren't always lucky to experience that. I just wanted my parents... For them to care and love me, but they never really did.
“Ah, looks like I have a new neighbor” Dean mumbles as he steps inside the room, with his hands in his pockets.
“What do you mean?” I sit up turning my phone off, not wanting to see my mothers reply.
“I'm in the room next to ya, Clay and Laura wanted me to make you a list of 'chores' you'll need to do while you are here for free. So you'll be taking most of my nonheavy responsibilities because who'd want to hurt a city gal like you?”
He smirks as he leans against the doorframe while looking me up and down.
“Why are you living with them?” I ask curiously, sometimes my nosiness got the best of me...
“And that sweetheart isn't any of your business. Plus I work for them so they offered a room so I took the offer.” He muttered as he handed over the list.
He turned on his boots, walking off to what I assume is his room. Glancing at the list that contained, picking up horse shit, feeding, and grooming the animals. I scrunch my nose, he pretty much gave away all the nasty shit to me.
-----------------The next morning----------------
~BEEP~ ~BEEP~ ~BEEP~
I hear an alarm go on and on...I bury my head under the blanket. When I realize it wasn't going off anytime soon I bang my hand against the wall, to tell that green-eyed cowboy to shut the hell up.
“Wakey wakey sweetheart, the shit won't pick up itself” I hear the deep gruff voice, I peek my head out of the blanket seeing Dean holding the alarm that continued to go off until I tossed a shoe at him.
“Easy there tiger, Good morning” Dean puts his hands up as he reveals the alarm out of his hands and onto the floor peacefully and finally quiet.
I check the time... His he serious? It's 5:30 am Is this man crazy? I think so.
As Dean walks the floors creaked with every step, and it started to get on my nerves. A few seconds pass by and I realize he isn't going to go until I get up, I groan rolling out of bed, and start going through the dressers pulling out a nice white flowy dress.
“You're going to wear that?” He asked looking the dress up and down, with a slight cringe. I look at him a little confused and my head tilts to the side.
“Yeah... What's wrong with it?” I look at it again, seeing if it and any dirt or stains on it.
“Did you bring anything that you can remotely get dirty in? I wouldn't recommend a dress unless you want it all fucked up. Wear jeans and a T-shirt, oh and some boots. Not the high heel ones.” He clarifies. I stand there awkwardly seeing I just packed skirts and dresses not expecting to get down and dirty.
“Heh..” Rubbing the back of my neck, I look at him when I see he has a moment of realization.
“Are you serious Y/n, You didn't bring anything somewhat comfy?” Dean sighs as he leans back against the doorframe.
“I had been in a rush... I didn't have exactly very much time to pick and choose what I wanted” I whisper as I shift uncomfortably, hell I still had my wedding dress in the truck. That whole day was a disaster.
Dean slowly nods, probably feeling that I wouldn't want to talk about it. He rubs a hand over his face before checking his watch. “Let's get you some clothes then, you'll need them for tonight and for the rest of the time you are here”
----------
The drive to the town had been short, the stores had just started to open but plenty of people were already out and about going on with their day.
It was quiet. It felt quite refreshing, especially being in the city my whole life.
“Good mornin' sheriff” A guy on the bench started up a conversation with Dean, which resulted in me going into a store called blitz and Glamour by myself.
Right when I walk in a girl my age starts up a conversation with me and helps me find a few cute items, I quickly learned her name is Charlie and she just got out of tech school but her parents wanted her back down here for the summer. The redhead was quite talkative but at the then... I think I might've made my first friend here. Maybe this place won't be so bad after all.
“Oh- fuck sorry!” I accidentally bump into a woman, and Dean was quick to walk over to help pick up all the bags. “Lisa. How are Ben and Aurora?” He asks as stands up straight while holding the bags.
Who is this Lisa and who the heck are Ben and Aurora? It wasn't my business so I slowly backed up leaving the green eyed-man with the darker hair woman. After a few minutes he saw them bicker, well it was more of the woman than Dean he kinda just stood there and took it. As if he was used to it.
And let me tell you... He didn't look to happy when he came back over.

hope you enjoy it!
Javier didn't use to be a man to make many promises. He made a few during the years, promises like quit smoaking, clearing Colombia from cocaine, to take care of himself for his mother on her deathbed; he didn't keep any of them. It wasn't like he didn't try, though, Javier was a man of word, things just went out of his control: he did arrest Los Pepes, but the traffic of coke was at full stem ahead even without them, consuming the country, ruining and taking lives of innocent people; it was logical to imagine that taking care of himself was more under his control, but honestly, Javier didn't even know how to do that anymore, his life going south for so long it felt like changing wasn't a possibility.
He still had his father, and living with him back in the ranch again definitely had Javier in the most healthy state of his life that time. His return to Laredo caused quite the commotion, him abandoning Lorraine in the alter was never forgotten, but being part of the chasing of Escobar got him in Laredo's good grace again, he was a hero after all. He hated all of it: the praises and congratulations he didn't deserve, the back pattings and hugs that invaded his personal space, the audacity the people had to 'forgive' him, as if they were people whose opinion he valued.
It's not like he wasn't used to it, he was born and raised there and small towns had small towns' issues, but that didn't mean it didn't piss him off still. His big, nosy family was a part of it, all over his head asking "what was his plan now that he was back home", about "getting a girlfriend to become a wife and finally have kids", because "he wasn't getting any younger" and "was the only single cousin". It was like all his concerns were thrown in his face. He loved them, they were all he had left, but god, didn't they make him feel like shit. Because he had accomplished nothing in forty years, and it was clear that every person around him could notice that too.
The coming of a new year was another reminder of that. During his years in Colombia, he didn't do much other than a dinner with Steve and Connie, neither of them was in the mood of anything fancy at that time, and when they left the country, he simply worked or, in the best scenario, slept. In Laredo, though, his family wouldn't miss an opportunity to throw a party.
"What are your resolutions for the next year, Javi?" his cousin asked.
They both were in the kitchen, the task to cut pickles in very thin, even slices given to them by one of their aunts. Javi stopped his work with the knife to not lose a finger as he side eyed his cousin.
"Don't look at me like that!" she laughed "I'm asking you a question"
"What do you mean?"
"Resolutions, Javi" she rolled her eyes "Like your wishes for the next year"
"You mean, like, manifesting? Are you into that shit?" he couldn't hide the frown on his face.
"No, Javier, not manifesting, even though there's nothing wrong with that" she gave him an irritated look "You write down what you would like to change in yourself, to be a better person next year"
"Is that your way to say that I'm an asshole, prima?" he narrowed his eyes at her and she laughed loudly.
"Well, not just that" she shrugged "I like to do that every year, helps me to keep focused in what I want. And I see the look in your eyes, Javi" she wore a sympathetic smile as her hands caressed his "You have dreams you want to chase, why not start by that?"
A loud scream made them both jump in their places, a tiny human coming through the kitchen threshold with his hands thrown up in the air.
"Mijo" she laughed at the child's prank and the boy giggled.
His cousin had been married for almost ten years by then, a little boy and one girl on the way. Her being younger than him and having accomplished his dreams made a claw made of jelousy wrap its nails around his throat.
Javier wanted a wife, he wanted to marry someone he loved, he wanted to build a family of his own, he just was focused on the wrong things at the wrong time.
So he decided to start with something that should be simple, only one promise to himself: to meet someone in the coming year.
It should have, didn't mean it was, though. It was scary, he found out, to get to know someone after so long, especially at a small town where he knew almost everyone. Javier never had problems to get laid, but most of the woman he hooked up with didn't really seem interested in more than that, after a while it started to feel like a him problem. That being said, Javier didn't know how to start, so the next time another cousin of his said that he would really get along with a co-worker he had, he finally accepted.
The date was... awkward, to say the least. They went to the most popular restaurant in Laredo, every person there looking at him the whole evening; she didn't seem to mind the attention, but Javier did. He tried to make conversation, to ask about her interests, to compliment her, but he was as rusty as a cheap aluminum pot left in the rain for months, years, in his case. She would ask a lot about him, too, but not his hobbies or what he liked to hear on the radio, she would ask about Escobar, how was it like to catch bad guys, if he still had his gun. Javier tried to change the subject, but she would insist on talking about Colombia. She was curious, it was normal, he was used to it, but what a damn turn off it was. Javier felt like being in an interview, the atmosphere heavier and heavier as the questions were getting more and more personal, and by the first hour of the date, he was wishing he was at home.
Javier had this happening before, during his time chasing Los Pepes, the media would be all over him asking all sorts of questions, work related or not, and he hated it. If she wasn't an acquaintance of his cousin, he would even consider her being a fucking journalist, because it was not normal to act like that with someone you had just met.
So after that, Javier was pretty dismotivated to continue his chasing, but his family had already found out he was giving love a chance and wouldn't leave him alone. Apparently, there were many "young women" interested in Javier, according to his aunts. Javier wasn't really comfortable being putten in that position again, but decided to give it a try - few tries, actually. Blide dates were exhaustive and the most of them very unpleasant. In a blink of eyes, it was New Year's Eve again and Javier was still not in a relationship, another failed promise in his mind.
"Well, your plan was to meet someone, and technically you met, like, twenty new women. I would call it a success" Javier rolled his eyes at his cousin's attempt to cheer him up.
"There must be something very wrong with me" he sighed and she pouted.
"Don't say that, Javi! All of them wanted to go on a date with you, you were the one to reject them"
"I know, but- I don't know" he scratched his chin "They all looked at me as if I saved the world, and it's not like that, you know it's not"
She moved the newborn to her other side and sitted closer to him in the couch settled outside the house where they had been chatting for the last hour. Javier looked at the baby in her arms and felt his throat tighten.
"You think so little of yourself, Javi" all her attention was on him, but his eyes didn't meet hers "I know you didn't "save the world", but you tried to make a difference and gave your best to do so, you can't reject a girl just because she admires you"
Javier had done things terrible enough for the good ones to be irrelevants, had let shit happen when he should have tried to stop them, and he had told her that, not in details, but she was the only person beside him and Steve to know, and still thought he was a good person. And yeah, maybe he wasn't so bad after all, but he imagined letting one of those women inside, their eyes shining with pride, letting himself love her, feeling safe enough to tell her about everything and her never seeing him the same way, giving up on him because of his baggage, he knew he would if he could, so how could he put such a burden upon someone's shoulders? Who would want that?
"But I understand, I think" she spoke again, her free hand patting his shoulder "It must feel strange having someone knowing so much about you and you knowing nothing about them. Maybe you shouldn't go on these shitty arranged dates and find someone on your on"
"Yeah, I think you're right" he took her hand in his and gave her knuckes a light peck "Thank you"
"Mijo" Chucho's head appeared on the frame of the door "Would you do me a favor?"
"Of course, Pops" he stood up.
"Your aunts forg-" he was interrupted by shoutings coming from the kitchen:
"You stand there and accuse me, but where were you at the time?" was the voice of one of his aunts "Strolling through the corridors looking for fruitcakes when it's not even the season anymore!"
"You leave my fruitcakes alone!" another aunt shouted back "I don't hear you complaining when you're eating them!"
Javier looked at his father with his brows raised in curiosity, and the old man sighed "Your aunts forgot the jar of pickles, would you mind driving to the tienda?"
"No, I don't"
Most of the commerces were already closed at that time of the evening, but the tienda was the one place everyone in Laredo could count to be open at any time. The owners greeted him when he passed through the door, trying to small talk, and he turned them down the nicer way he could, wishing them a happy new year and going straight to the aisle he was supposed to. He heard the sound of broken glass followed by cursings coming from further in the store and found you staring miseraly at a burst jar of pickles on the floor, the vinegar smell all over the air and a basket full of groceries supported on your hip.
"You okay?" you looked up at him and he felt the the wind knocked out of him; you were the most beautiful woman he had ever seen in his life.
"I am, yeah, that isn't" you pointed to the jar and he smiled.
Probably imagining what had happened by the noise, a man quickly showed up with a broom and a cloth to clear it up. You apologized profusely, saying that you could clean it up yourself while the man said it was no problem.
Javier looked at you one more time and left to get what he went there for. He had never seen you in the city before, and it wasn't like he was out of the ranch often - he tried very much not to -, but you should've been new there; the conversation with his cousin still fresh in his head. When he got to the dill pickles aisle, he shouldn't be surprised that you appeared in the other end of it, you had just dropped your jar after all.
"Hi again" you smiled as you walked towards him and he smiled back.
He felt something very similar to shyness creeping in his stomach "Hi"
"Just getting another one of this since mine decided this life just wasn't for him" you raised your hand and said your name.
"Javier" the handshake lingered a little longer than one normally would, your skin soft against his.
He saw the way you looked at him with interest, he should've asked you out. He should've, you were pretty, were his type and, if new in town, probably knew nothing about him. He should've, but he didn't. Thinking once then twice if he could've been reading it wrong, if you were just being nice and in the possibility to make you uncomfortable asking you out after exchanging two sentences in an aisl store. So he just took a jar, said goodbye, and left.
But something inside of him told him that you, with your bright smile and little jokes, could be the one. So he promised to himself to ask you out the next time he saw you.
And he did. After that day, he would go to the city every chance he had. He told his father he would start doing the groceries so he could rest. Chucho didn't buy that, but did nothing about it, he knew his son, so he knew better than to ask, when he wanted to talk to him, he would. It took a couple of months for him to see you again, in the most unexpected place he could think of. He had taken his father to an appointment in Houston, strolling around to pass the time when he saw you inside a café. His eyes widened and he was quick to move out of your sight before you saw him.
He was anxious, but he had been waiting for an opportunity for months and couldn't let it slide away again. Javier took a deep breath and entered the shop, a bell upon his head announcing his entrance. He pretended not to see you, going straight to the counter to ask for a coffee; he didn't want you thinking he was a stalker or something. While waiting for his drink, Javier would take glances in your direction, you sitted three tables away from him, an open book and a mug on the table before you. With his coffee in hands, he looked around and locked eyes with you, who smiled and waved at him. Even though there were plenty of unoccupied tables, Javier took confident steps towards yours.
"Mind if I join?" the smile you gave him made his skin prickle.
"Not at all" you marked a page in the book and closed it as he took a seat in the chair in front of you.
"I haven't seen you in a while" was his subtle attempt to start a conversation.
"Were you looking for me?" you rested your forearms on the table and lightly leaned in his direction.
Javier smirked, was that you flirting, or was he really that rusty? "I was, yeah"
"Good to know" you smiled again "I travel a lot for work, haven't really been in Laredo"
Before he could ask what you did for work, you asked what he was doing in Houston, so he told you about his father's semester appointment that was only available there, and that made you ask about Chucho's health, and then about the trip, since it was a very long one, but he told you he liked driving and used to do that with his parents a lot, which lead to talking about families, you said you weren't really close to yours, the conversation flowing with neither of you seeing the time pass. It was you the one to bring him back to reality, asking which time he was supposed to get Chucho in the hospital and making him realise that he was already late.
"Javier" you said as he quickly stood up to leave "I don't know if I'm reading this wrong, I really hope I'm not and I'm sorry if I am but-"
"Would you like to go out with me sometime?" the words left his mouth before without hesitation.
Your brows raised in surprised, but your smile could have brightened a whole galaxy "God, yes"
He called you the next day, not wanting to wait a minute longer than what he thought wasn't giving desperation. You set the date for the next week, when you would already be back in Laredo. He went to pick you up and got once more mesmerized by the sight of you; you laughed and affectionately squeezed his arm when he told you that. Javier took you to his favorite restaurant in the city, a cozy little place with delicious food his parents used to take him when his mother was still alive. The two of you talked the whole night: he found out that you were a photographer, had moved to Laredo a few months ago planning on settling down "I'm getting too old for all that traveling, and the house's prices are good" was what you told him. Your favorite food was mexican, you weirdly liked the smell of gasoline and wet soil, loved listening to music, still had your grandparents in your hometown so you visited often, wanted to have a dog but couldn't with your schedule, always dreamt of being a mother. You asked so much about him, too. Not the type of questions he was used to being asked, you tried to know him by asking about his childhood, more details about his parents because they seemed to have had such a beautiful love, if he had traveled out of Laredo before, which got him telling you he was a former DEA agent in Colombia, and he saw the curiosity in your eyes, he waited for the questions about that to come, but instead you just said you've had always wanted to visit South America. Years later, when he mentioned tour first date, you would tell him that you knew what was happening in Colombia at that time and that you knew better than to ask what could be invasive questions.
When you couldn't stay in the restaurant anymore because they had to close, Javier still didn't want the night to end, but drove you to your house still. As he took you to your door and wished you a goodnight, ready to leave, you held his upper arm and gave him a light peck on the lips. As if something snapped inside of him, Javier didn't give you the time to even open your eyes before his mouth were against yours again, tongues dancing together as if they already knew one another and had done this before, hands passing through each others bodies. When you asked him to go inside, he hesitated.
"I don't want you to think that's all I want" he vocalized his concerns.
"I don't" you took his face in your hands, brushed your lips on his and smiled "You're a catch, Javier Peña, I'm keeping you to myself"
Javier took his time with you, kissing every inch of your body, having you giggling and moaning and writhing under his touch. Unhurriedly making you his between wet kisses and moans and screams of his name. He would've stayed connected to your body for the rest of his life if he could've, but your agenda was booked for the rest of the year and all he could have was a couple of weeknds a month and long night's phone calls. But Javier took all you gave him without complaints, even though he missed you so much his chest tighted. He missed your smile, your laughter, your body next to his, your fingers through his hair, your kisses to wake him up in the morning, the way his name souded on your lips when he was inside of you, the weight of your head resting on his chest, the way your right leg would twine between his when you slept. The man was head over heels for you and knew you felt the same, all those nights the both of you cried on the phone, sick of being away from each other proved it.
But the both of you survived that tough time like champions, by then, the end of the year was near, and you went to get your grandparents at your hometown to spend the New Year's Eve with Javier's family, the people who raised you obviously being two of the best people he had ever met. His aunts were in love with you, the kids wouldn't leave you alone and his favorite cousin was so thrilled to finally meet you that she dramatically almost passed out. Everyone spent the night laughing and eating and talking, and watching from afar, he couldn't believe how well you fitted on his family, but he hadn't doubted for a second that everyone would love you, how could someone not to? So when he told you he loved you for the first time that night and you said it back without hesitation, Javier promised to be the best version of himself to get you to wear his mother's ring on your finger by the end of the next year.
Not everything was perfect, nothing ever is. You had some fights, you disagreed in a few things, but something you stablished the first time Javier gave in to old habits and tried to run away from the issue was that you wouldn't sleep without talking about it; no hitting doors, no leaving, no fucking the anger out, you talked and made the effort to change what was bothering. Javier had been in only one serious relationship before, with Lorraine, and damn what a difference it was. He couldn't blame neither of them, they were young and didn't know what they wanted; you, on the other hand, knew exactly what you wanted and it still shocked him that it was him. You wanted him, all flaws and errors and baggage included, you didn't let him shut you down when things got tough, and with time he learned to trust you, to count on you, to talk about his feelings, his walls slowly tumbling down. The day he told you everything about Colombia was the hardest he had ever been putten through, years of fighting drug dealers and putting his life at risk, and he had never been more frightened. Tears were shared, you didn't react very well to a few things, but you never dropped his hand, never interrupted, never distanced yourself, even thanked him for trusting you, and at the end he felt as light as a feather. You convinced him to go to therapy, emphasizing that he had to treat the psychological consequences of the terror he confronted back in Colombia.
After that, it seemed like you had reached a goal at your relationship, you spending more time at the ranch than at your own house, a great routine already settled, and you made it very clear you were ready to be asked in marriage when you said those exact words to him. Little did you know he was already planning on it, and one day, after photographing a wedding at a neighbor city, Javier welcomed you in the ranch with candles everywhere, a knee on the floor, tears on his eyes, his mothers ring in a velvet red box and the most heartwarming speech one could ever ask for. The wedding was quick to happen, neither of you wanted a big party, just your families and friends gathered in the ranch with the ceremony realized by a very emotional Chucho. Didn't take you long to get pregnant either, your life settled with you being called to take every photo in Laredo and Javier accepting a job at the Sheriff's Office; the both of you had decided to live with Chucho once he had injured his leg during work, him more than thrilled to have a grandbaby under his roof. Javi fell in love with you a little more every day that passed, more and more mesmerized by you and your growing belly. At the end of that year, he promised to be a father as good as the one he had.
And what a good father he was indeed. He dedicated his life to his family, providing all the love and dedication he had in him, gladly waking up during the nights to comfort his kids; yes, you both got tired as hell, made mistakes, got stressed sometimes, but you got the life of your dreams and the both of you had so much love to give that it didn't matter how hard things could get, you wanted it, all of it. With his one-year-old boy sleeping in his arms as you talked to your grandma on the other side of the room, your ring hand carressing your beautiful round belly that carried your next baby, he saw as his babygirl crossed the room shouting with her hands thrown up in the air to scare you, clearly influenced by her cousin, and you playfully shouted back. The dogs started barking and jumping at the commotion, the three-year-old giggling as you kissed her cheek.
Javier felt like his heart could explode inside of his chest, certain that there was no man alive happier than him, he thought about how lucky he was he went to get those pickles all those years ago. The journy the both of you had wasn't quite easy, the challenges you had to face, the expensive phone bills he got when you were apart, the fears he had to overcome, even those years in Colombia, he would have done it all again and again and again if it meant to be where he was at that very moment, to wake up everyday by your side, to always have you in the passanger seat to rest his hand on your thigh, to have the kids laughing and running around the house, to experiencing the type of love his parents had.
At that New Year's Eve, Javier kept the same promise he had been keeping the last years: to give his all to the family of his own.
"Javi, baby" you called him, your smile as wide as always "I'm craving pickles"
