But also, well... "Innocent cryptid killer" is definitely an oxymoron for the demonic cryptid! It may not have been a particularly wise choice (since we all know there will be hell to pay), but that doesn't mean it's out of character. I'm already wincing thinking about the fallout (it's gonna be delicious angst <3), but personally I... I don't see what other course of action they could have taken once they were spotted?

I mean, look - here's a demonic cryptid who is soft for 1 (one) "special" cryptid hunter, just about to enjoy their meal, when theres another cryptid hunter not only interrupting that, but actively threatening them with pursuit and death (and, unbeknownst to the poor sod, the reveal of what they are to Y/N, something they want to keep from them forever ideally!) - what else is a cryptid supposed to do?

It's going to cause a mess and it's going to hurt Y/N, but the boys are well-rounded characters that make painful mistakes and we still end up rooting for them, I have no doubt <3

This scene will come back. Anon, if you've read Naff's works, I think you know you can trust her to handle this appropriately - it won't be swept under the rug, it'll be addressed, and we might all scream a little, but it'll be good <3

TIME TO DIG IN HEHE

But god yes, their dynamic is so so fascinating! I haven't thought too extensively about canon, just adjacently when I was figuring out the relationship between the two of them for my AU - because I actually blanked when trying to define it. I love the brotherly takes (whether those are positive or negative) and I don't mind non familial bonds between them, but when I tried to describe it brothers also didn't fit, despite my preference - to not make this subtle advertising, they do share a body in my AU, and both were there from the start, so they felt too enmeshed to see themselves as brothers, they are part of a whole! So I personally went with counterpart as what they see each other as, and it felt good!

I am just subtly gonna slide my own ramble in here, because I cannot stop myself and I really enjoyed analyzing them, but it is specific to my AU so that's a disclaimer gfhdjs

For canon though, ough I love this I love this, it makes me think so much! One socially overwhelmed, the other underwhelmed - but they're both going stir crazy! I can see them (if they get to communicate with each other - do they even get that, or are they so entirely on their own that even their other half feels out of reach? Is that a new development, only adding to their loneliness? How terrifying sudden radio silence must be!) just vacillating between trying to reassure each other and then fighting for "the grass is greener on the other side" reasons.

Moon hasn't interacted with a person on a friendly social level in ages! That's terrifying, and so so lonely! But at least he gets to leave the daycare, and doesn't have to feel trapped, right?

(Wrong. He's just differently trapped.)

Sun hasn't left the daycare in, ever? He gets to see what he's missing, a fraction of it, but the rules keep him in and he's too anxious to go against them. But at least he gets to talk to people! He's not lonely in there!

(Also wrong, children are not friends and thus only superficial socialization.)

They're all they have and so so jealous of what the other has, it's such an interesting dynamic to explore!

And add to that the whole extra mess of a layer that is the virus? The fear that brings - more change, which is scary in and of itself for someone who has absolutely no control over where their life is going, and then they have to fear losing the one person they could always count on being there? Losing themselves to the virus, too!

More potential fighting, fueled by "I don't want (you) to be like this" "I'm scared of what is happening and don't know how to say or change it," and they try to cling to control as much as they can. Was Sun always so anxious, or did the virus make it worse? How much of a hold has the virus on them both? Is Moon still fighting it, or has he given up?

There are just so so many variables and exploring them all feels like one of those bead kaleidoscopes - they're the same characters, but twist the circumstances just a little and everything looks different! It's so so fascinating and I love thinking about it, so uh, oops! Looks like you got an infodump right back fghdjs

Hmmm, well I’ve kept you waiting long enough (sorry about that), so today I’ll ramble about one of my favourite things about the DCA - their relationship, and more specifically, how they “share” with each other and how that works out for them!

I’m a sucker for any AU that explores the way Sun and Moon interact with each other, whether they’re in one body or not, whether they communicate directly or indirectly. And I’ve always been interested in exploring how long each of them has “out” at a given time, and how that affects them both.

Like, Sun is (in theory) supposed to be out at ALL TIMES in the daycare. ALL TIMES. No Moon, only Sun. The staff even put (flimsy) measures in place so that Moon would NEVER take over in that space. But from what we can tell, Sun and Moon were built to be a package deal, and with that taken into consideration, it’s very unlikely that this doesn’t put some amount of stress on Sun’s system at the best of times, what with him having NO time at all to go dormant outside of the night patrols. Even if he does have a little time to go dormant, he’s already seemingly under so much stress from the fear of what happens when Moon takes over that the forced transformations cannot be doing him any good at all.

Meanwhile, when he is actually active, Moon has some “freedoms” that Sun doesn’t seem to have. He can roam around the pizzaplex, for example. We never see Sun leave the daycare. From what we can tell in the game, only Moon can roam the pizzaplex because the daycare attendant only roams free when the lights go out at the end of every hour. Whether this has always been the case or whether it’s a new measure put in place by Freddy’s to replace some of the night staff with Moon is anyone’s guess really. But this freedom doesn’t really mean much in the grand scheme of things when it’s basically just been put in place so that Moon can be a puppet for the Afton virus. And throughout all of the social hours when he would have once been interacting with kids, Moon is now inactive. He’s only there to roam and get people to do the big sleepy. He’s lacking socialisation like CRAZY.

Between Sun being basically forced to be active throughout ALL of the hours when the lights are forcibly kept on, and Moon lacking ANY positive social interactions, this is really sad, because we see the other animatronics at least still able to roam the plex when it’s active and have “down time” in their rooms (not that this seems to work out so well for Monty to be fair), but all Sun gets is the ugliest mess of a space in the world to retreat to and all Moon knows how to do anymore is punish people who he thinks ought to be sleeping. So even beyond the virus there are just layers and layers of anxiety Sun has lived with for who knows how long, and there is so much bad socialisation that Moon must be so used to by now that he basically has no identity outside of correcting what he sees as problems (aka putting people to sleep), because the on/off cycle that Freddy’s has put in place for them won’t allow them to do anything else. It’s crazy!

Then in addition to these we get so many amazing fanon takes on how they both feel about this - is it something they actively put thought into? If they communicate with each other in any way, does knowing what the other one deals with stress them out even more as two halves of a whole? Whether they’re together or separate, do they ever wish they had what the other one had, or does knowing what the other one deals with make them feel grateful that they ended up how they did? Do they work together to combat the issues they’re now facing, or is a constant battle going on inside of them? So many interesting things to think about when it comes to these guys!

So, first of all, I love how easy their new routine is by now. Sure Moon doesn't need to help Robin up, but both of them want that touch, and just because it's not needed doesn't mean it's not appreciated. Just like their relationship forming, the small gestures help take the effort off the smallest things~

And how they just refer to home! So happy that it's exactly the same place they'll be returning to! Their home. For both of them and because of each of them.

And pfffff, I love them both making lighthearted fun of Sun's own antics. Like Sunny, my beloved, please XD Haha, it's good to know they just have this comfortable dynamic and I don't doubt Sun returns any teasing in kind

And ahhhh, I love that Robin just already knows them so well! It's so very sweet that they immediately pick up on the crowd and get concerned about Moon's comfort! But I'm laughing so much at the approach. Robin, hey you get a reward when we surpass this less than ideal conditions. Moon suddenly doesn't care about the conditions and wants to get home to receive his reward. Then gets annoyed at the crowd for stalling said reward and goes "Nope. Screw waiting. Want reward now" Nevermind that it's not quite a reward in that case but details, details.

I mean, Moon did spend pining a lot in the past, Robin should have known that if the offer included them he wasn't going to be very patient lkghdfskj Self-restraint? Moon broke up with her, doesn't even know her anymore XD

And then we get to the fun part!

Hand half entangled in hair half cupping their face? My, mister, what big hands you have there! (aka I see you).

Oh and he starts with the nipping, getting the teeth and the claws out immediately because he knows. He knows them so well by now and he's making it known, and also he can literally feel how correct he is going by Robin's pulse~

And he just keeps going for all the week spots huh? The trailing fingers on the marks left by clothes because he knows it must be sensitive

And the whole thing about the "still talking" line? Ohoho. And Robin wanting to get more by being a brat? Ohoho!

And! The shirt! He really just ripped that bit of the collar off so easily huh!!! Very- very normal about that yes!

(Actually very normal about all of it, definitely not having to reread to be able to comment and not get distracted, what are you talking about)

Makes sense Robin is clinging to him by now, very hard to stand firmly on the ground with all that's happening there.

But then we also go back to very sweet, with Robin wanting to kiss him too. Give him all that love and attention he also deserves, (though I think there must be also very satisfied to have them like feeling like putty in his arms ghñakh).

And haha I don't think there's much I can say about the last lines of the fic when they say it all sñfdhfñhaf other than I'm very glad to see Moon taking his self appointed duty to make sure Robin gets a good rest veeeeery seriously~

After the delay of work and cryptid sightings insanity, I get to this!

And yeah!! It was a lot of fun to just depict this normal for them, by then not even all that new anymore! They settled in it, and it's home just like the duplex, and I love letting them enjoy the domesticity of it all. They help each other even when it's not an emergency, but simply because they want to, no matter how small the burden they lift off their partner's shoulders. They're comfortable, and secure!! And I love showing that <3

Same with the Sun teasing! Like, sure, Y/N held back before, but then it's just too fun not to share, and besides, Sun may pretend to be miffed, and play that up - crossing his arms, looking up with a "hmph", but he knows they enjoy these parts of him, too, and that's why they shared!

(Moon gets teased for his gimmick still, and acting like a hissy stray whenever someone mentions "hey you might need to talk with 2+ people". Y/N gets teased for their personalized gadgets and interest/ imitation of spy movies. Everyone gets payback <3)

And look. look. Y/N knows him well, but he still surprises them sometimes <3 So when there's even more people he'd have to keep an eye on he decides to wait it out in the most fun way available >:3c But definitely also "why would I wait if I can just get it now? want it now (:" gfhdj even settled into the relationship he's done pining, he knows what he wants and knows he can get it too <3

Self restraint was a necessity he no longer has to entertain <3 Goodbye, sweet love, you are no longer needed here <3

Y/N being a brat?

I just went 100% self indulgence here and I'm very glad I'm not the only victim <3 It still fit both of them, of course, because AU at the core is my AU with what I want to see! Their dynamic works out like that, Y/N is definitely not the type to simply let him do all that, they want in on the action! They also want to have fun, be it through oh so rewarding brattiness or getting his jacket open or kissing him also <3

(That being said, writing this was still fascinating because I am literally only enticed and interested in theory, I simply do not have any interest in relationships like this irl FGHDJSK)

Moon definitely had his fun - making Y/N melt, having them so obviously desperate to also get their hands (and lips) on him, they want him just as much as he wants them, and that's always nice to see <3

He also greatly enjoys that they now have a ruined shirt they need to cover, and hey, would you look at that! He has a jacket he doesn't need! <3

But yes, he takes his role as sleep watch very seriously <3 Gotta make sure they're sooo tired, and then he'll just hold them to their "I'll stack' comment hehe. Keep them close, and enjoy the quiet time once they're snoozing, looking at them and just thinking about how lucky he is <3

I have a little question about AU! Nothing very plot-related (that I know of) but! Something I thought of. Since the switch is still light-based, does that mean Sun hasn’t properly seen the full night sky or vice versa? I’d imagine they might get the tail end (like when the moon is visible in the early mornings or how Moon was still able to be active right before sunrise) but maybe not the full view of the sky.

Because if they haven’t been able to or maybe find that it’d mess up their schedules too badly to stay up so late/early… I think it would be sweet if they could share memories of the pretty skies with each other OR even for Robin to take pictures for them! It might not be something they think about too often - too busy and with too many things to do - but I think the sky can be absolutely breathtaking sometimes, and while some well-taken pictures might not be the real thing… I think it would be a sweet gesture to try and allow them something they’re not otherwise allowed to experience.

I thought about the switch - it just seemed a bit too lucky if they're one power outage or flashlight away from being found out, and it's rather impractical for them on the job, too, to switch the entire time. Like, Moon could hardly enter HQ when it's always lit, no paperwork at all for him, and Sun's undercover work may lead him to dimly lit rooms often enough, too.

So, with creative freedom and it being an AU and all that, they get a timer - 12 hours each, for fairness. (I was also admittedly sad that Moon is kind of at a disadvantage with the light, with how people usually aim to be able to see and thus even in the dark keep lights on). Tentatively think it'd be a 6-6 cycle, because I like that it's perfectly centered around midnight and noon. It gives them a bit more control over their schedule and plans, and the opportunity to observe sunsets and sunrises (though they have to wait for the right season)!

They have the option to force a switch outside of their schedule, but it resets the timer and throws them off the rhythm (imagine being woken up early to immediately cover being a functional person for someone else - no thank you), so they don't really do that - sometimes it's handy for alibis, though they also need a change of clothes for that, so they try to just handle things on their own.

This turned into a little worldbuilding/ character building ramble despite the sweet thought sparking your ask, sorry fghdjs

But while sunsets can be scenic anywhere, both of them rarely spend time outside of the city (or a city, sometimes there are missions further away, but rarely in rural areas), so if Y/N took them out of town to see the real night sky? Without all the smog and light pollution? They wouldn't really think of it on their own, so used to the sky they know, so any gesture from Y/N with the goal of showing them something new, something they didn't get to marvel at before? Well, it won't be the only thing they marvel at <3

I think, maybe the very specific feral ones? Mentions of particular lines or scenes and actions surrounded by screaming tell me exactly which bits hit good, and I just melt when it's in the context of a live reading and there's so many of these "sub" comments! Honestly the most encouraging comments to get, they push away the imposter syndrome like no other!

Mhh, a whole mixed bag of things, I think! There's definitely the elation - I daydream a bunch, but it's different to have those lines on paper to reread again and again and again. It's fun, and it makes me giddy! Unfortunately, sometimes the imposter syndrome creeps up, and I hold my own writing to unreasonably high standards where I just feel like deleting everything and never looking at it again. And that's silly, because I know, and tell myself "this is literally only to have it on paper." It's to get it out, to have it there, not trapped inside my head where I'll forget them. It's so the details don't get lost! And I do that! So I try to focus on just the happy things, the fun it is, and try not to force myself to create on bad days that have unfortunately outweighed the good days for a while now. Wish it was only the fun, but alas, everything has a downside!

Ah, compliments. Shot myself in the foot again. Thinking about the dynamic swap though (uh, might or might not make it too tumblr, feeling still eehh about writing so had to keep it contained for now, sorry) I think I'm just, really open for a lot. Like, I don't hesitate to embrace new ideas and make them fit - that was what the swap was initially! I thought "there's no way Sun would be rude to his civilian landlord, as a civilian," and then it turned into a thought experiment how to make it work without getting out of character! It's a lot of fun so I see it as a good thing, and it also means I love seeing everyone else's sonas and interactions! I don't need to stick to one storyline, I love all of them! And I love those storylines whether they came from me or others! Which makes having a variable AU like this a lot more fun, hehe <3

Got this one thrice, so I'm gonna split it a lil and ramble about a different factor for each because yeah like I could ever settle for just one fghdjs

For one, it's the characters. I tend to write character driven stuff first and foremost - even my one fic (the tloz one, currently on hiatus, again disclaimer no one needs to read that it's a very different style, anyways) that has a very nice defined plot is so character driven that it's now at 110+K and I'm in the middle of Arc 2. Of five. It's too important for me that the characters get along, and communicate, and have fun together and time to breathe, That's why so many AU drabbles are just that! The entire "plot" of the AU (except for the Glamrock teases) is just them getting closer! That's the point! So the characters are definitely something I pay very close attention to, and do my best to get right!
