I've just passed my test. But, the next thing is a car, but the main problem is the insurance... I've looked at companies that offer a smart box which supposedly lowers the insurance, but i'm going to have to be the main driver on the policy and with a box through co-op I was quoted 5000! And as i'm under 18 they wanted it all in one lump sum!! The reason it was so high was because I have absolutely 0 years claims and i'm the main driver. HELP! Insurance company trying to low ball estimate?

Back in April I was driving and a lady tried switching lanes and struck my vehicle. I immediately went to an auto body shop and got an estimate for the damage, they took photos and everything. I've been contacting her insurance and dealing with this for over two months... I had to send them the police report because the woman tried lying and said I hit her, so I had to prove she was at fault. They would never return my calls. Until I talked to the field adjuster. He then called me yesterday told me he got the estimate from the body shop which was one of their recommended shops, and was mailing me the check for the damage. However he failed to tell me the check he was sending was for $1000 less than the estimate. I don't agree with this, what do I do? Okay, this is the second time i've asked a question in the last two days but this forum is really interesting and gets me thinking. While I was at University, I was driving innocently along when I realized I didn't have my lights on. At that PRECISE MOMENT, I saw blue flashing lights behind me and the police pulled me over. He looked at my lisence, wrote down some information and gave it back to me. He then said ''do you realize it is an offence not to carry your car insurance documents with you when asked to produce them at the roadside?''. Again I apologized and said that I had no idea that this was the case. He then gave me five days to produce my photo and counterpart driving lisence and car insurance documents at the local police station or I would be arrested for failing to produce documents on demand. He then asked me to provide a testimony which would be read in court if I didn't produce the documents and so I said ''I'm terribly sorry for any inconvenience''. He then let me out. Suffice to say, the next day I took my documents to the police station for inspection. Is this standard proceedure?""

How Lakers forward Julius Randle completely transformed his body and forged a shredded physique

When Lakers forward Julius Randle came into the off-season, he had one thing on his mind: getting into the best shape of his life.

After leading the Lakers in rebounding in his second year in the league, the team's management challenged the young forward during his exit interview to get even better, telling him to return in “beast mode” for the next season. Randle took the challenge head-on.

The former Kentucky star connected with trainer Amoila Cesar, who put him through an intense workout program, taking him from 15% body fat down to just 6% in less than five weeks.

“It was a lot of unconventional movements that I've never done before, but it really paid off for me,” Randle tells Men’s Fitness. “We did a lot of resistance training, and focused on legs workouts and strengthening my foundation. The NBA season is such a long stretch, and your body can wear down, so I wanted to push hard this summer and maintain it during the season.”

Randle and Cesar trained five days per week, spending 90 minutes in the gym each day. Cesar broke down the program into what he called “three pillars”: hypertrophy/strength, speed/agility, and recovery/mobility. The workouts included hip and mobility drills and at least 20 minutes of nightly foam rolling. His warmup? A one-mile run.

“The most important part was making sure Julius’ hips and mobility improved every week,” Cesar tells Men’s Fitness. “Julius suffered a hip-pointer injury and a broken leg in the past. Hips, glutes, and core are the power source for many athletic movements, and we worked hard on strengthening those areas. We always started with dynamic and mobility stretches to make sure his glutes would properly fire.”

Cesar didn’t just design a workout program for Randle, he also overhauled his nutrition, too. Randle kept a strict diet of organic foods, no hidden sugars or corn syrup, no dairy products, and no liquor. Randle also stuck with a higher Alkaline diet of raw foods and vegetables, which helped reduce his intake of refined carbs and heavy metals.

“It was huge for me in slimming down and making my body more athletic,” Randle says. “It was about really learning what works for me, what works for my body, and what doesn't help me. Portion control was something we really focused on and it made a major impact.”

The transformation has helped Randle move better on the court in the Lakers’ uptempo offense this season, and the results have been positive. While Randle is playing seven fewer minutes per game than last year, he’s scoring and rebounding at nearly the same rate, and he’s shooting a career-best 54% from the floor.

Randle spoke with Men’s Fitness about his insane body transformation, his partnership with MET-Rx, his intense training routine, and his favorite cheat meal.

Men's Fitness: What was it like overhauling your training last off-season? What was your daily routine like?

It was great. Coming into the summer, my main focus was getting into the best shape of my life; the best form that I could possibly get in. I wanted to be in the best shape I've ever been in coming back to the team, so I recommitted myself to the weight room as well as basketball court. For me, it was like an introduction to a whole new process.

I was getting up at 6:30 in the morning, and starting workouts around 8 a.m. each day. A lot of that was in the weight room doing heavy lifting, usually for around an hour and a half. Straight from there, I went to the court, and I'd usually do a basketball workout and some skills training. Later on in the summer when guys started playing again, we would play pickup and that was usually in the afternoon. Then, sometimes, I’d do another workout or shoot hoops around 8 p.m. to finish the night.

What were some of the workouts and training routines you did that helped you the most when you got back on the court?

My trainer was great to work with. He had me doing a lot of moves I’ve never done before, and it was much more than just your typical squats or lunges. We did a lot of work on my lower body, and worked to strengthen my legs, hamstrings, and glutes. For upper body, we did a lot of bench press and a lot of bodyweight workouts, too. Lots of pullups, pushups, back pulls, and we did those with resistance too. Not always with weight, but with a resistance band, and we also did some farmer’s carry exercises and full-body workouts. Some of the routines had cable rows, wood chops, hang cleans, barbell cleans, and med ball slams, which really helped me get lean and strong.

Cesar helped you overhaul your nutrition and kept you on a strict diet over the summer. How did that help your transformation?

For me personally, I'm not a big breakfast person, so having MET-Rx Big 100 bars helped, and Cesar helped me focus on the right things. Sometimes people don't know how to eat things properly to help nutrition and training, so portion control became a big focus, and that was really huge for me. Using the right seasonings to cook the food in also made a big difference, and I feel like now I know much better about what works specifically for my body. A lot of times I’d work out at night, and I wouldn't want to eat anything too heavy, so we stuck with Greek yogurt and things like that for a late snack.

What were some of the foods and meals you had while fueling your training? Do you have a favorite cheat meal when it’s time to pig out?

It was a lot of meat [laughs]. Some days it was steak, some days it was ground beef or ground turkey—with a lot of veggies. It really wasn't about eating any specific foods; it was about how I cooked the food, how it was seasoned, and how I prepared it. Like I said, I wasn't really much of a breakfast person, but I made sure to stay on track. Egg whites and avocados in the morning, to get something quick 10 minutes before my workout. Or I’d have some type of oatmeal. For a cheat meal, well, I'm a Southern boy, so I like soul food—any type of fried chicken or mashed potatoes. All that type of stuff is my favorite cheat day pick.

What has it been like working with MET-Rx, and what are your favorite products to use with your training?

Working with MET-Rx really helped me reach that goal of getting in the best shape of my life, and it fueled my training during the summer. The Big 100 bars were a great meal replacement for me, especially being something easy that I could access in the morning when I'm getting up early heading into my workout. It helped me put the right stuff in my body, and fuel my body right heading into workouts. I like all the flavors, but the Big 100 Super Cookie Crunch is my favorite. When I needed a quick boost, I’d grab one of the bars. When I didn’t have a bar in the morning, a lot of times after I finished my weights, I would grab one of the bars to hold me over and give me some energy heading into my on-court basketball workout.

What are some of the lessons you learned from your training this summer? What are your expectations for the rest of the season?

I learned a lot about how to handle my body, and how to handle a strict training and nutrition program. I feel like I can keep that up moving forward in my career. I learned that the work never stops—if you want to play a long time in this league, you have to constantly work out your body and always be trying to better yourself on the court. The work never stops. Obviously you have to be careful about your body breaking down over a long season, but for me, it’s always making an improvement; and in the off-season, making sure I’m healthy next season as well.

Our team likes the challenge of trying to get better each day. We have a lot of young guys, but we’re always trying to win, whether it’s a practice, drills, or a game. Are we pushing ourselves to be better? That’s what we always ask ourselves when we work. I don’t like to put expectations on things, but like I said, we are going to keep pushing and working to get better. You want to look back through the course of the season and find yourself making tremendous improvements. You just try to take everything a day at a time.

Chinese New Year 2017

This year was my first Chinese New Year in China. I didn't know what to expect and had no idea it would turn out to be one of the best Chinese experiences I've had thus far. I met a guy last week. He's a cool guy. He invited me to New Years dinner on Friday night. Friday was New Year's Eve. I was a little skeptical because I just met him and didn't know what to expect. He also invited me to go to another city with him and some friends to celebrate the new year. All I could think was "what do I have to loose"??? The I was like "omg I'm going to die and nobody will know about it" lol but I went in spite of my doubts. I was a title crazy but it was worth it. None of the the people I was with spoke English. We communicated with our phones. Ok, back to dinner. I went to dinner with 10 Chinese men who stayed here in Shenzhen for the new year. Shenzhen is a migrant city and empties out for the new year. People traveled back to their hometowns in China leaving Shenzhen empty. At dinner everyone welcomed me. They tried to use the little bit of English that they knew as I tried to use the little bit of Chinese that I've gained over the months. I really enjoyed myself. The dinner was huge. There was about 12 dishes on the table and lots of beer. I don't usually drink beer but I did it to enjoy my time and to experience this experience with the locals. We ate and got drunk. After dinner we went to KTV. It was a lot of fun. Out of the 12 people there only about 3 people sang songs. We had a blast. Drinking and smoking cigarettes... I couldn't believe the amount of fun I was having. That made me say yes to the road trip to Guilin. We left for Guilin on Saturday afternoon. I took my dog with me because I made a last minute decision and didn't have anyone to help take care of her. I was nervous but I went on the trip. The car ride was about 7 hours to get to Yangshuo. In the car they listened to Chinese music, they sang along and I enjoyed the ride. 5 men, including myself went on the trip. We all were exited and pumped up. I fell asleep for a while in the car and woke up to the beautiful mountains of the Guangxi Provence. I knew we were close because I've been to Guilin before when I was in high school. I couldn't believe I was there again. We arrived in Yangshuo, parked the car and went walking around the main part of the city. It was so crowded. So different from the empty city of Shenzhen that we had left behind. I was so excited. I was the only person like me in site. Everyone welcomed me and coco and were so excited to see me. Some people took pictures and others simply said Hello. I was excited to be having the experience so I just went along and walked in the crowded streets for hours. There were families, couples, friends, dog owners and everyone in between. Everyone was smiling and happy. The shops were open and people were looking and buying things. Street vendors were out and it was alive and festive! It was a lot to take in. So many lights and people. So much Chinese all around. So many happy people just going about their day. Everyone moving and nothing was still. After walking around we got met with a friend and we were off to the hotel. We rode on this very dark road for about 45 minutes. I was a little nervous again. Not knowing exactly what was going on and just being told we were going to the hotel made me feel a little uneasy while driving down this dark road. But I prayed and kept my head up. We arrived at a small town, that was empty and quiet. The hotel was small and quiet and we put our things down and went for food. By this time it's midnight. Again we had a full meal topped off with beer. We cheers so many times to the new year and everyone had something to say. I was a silent participant but they smiled and poured more beer and made sure I was happy. After we walked back to the hotel. I was tired and feel asleep. They stayed up for a while and played poker. In the morning we woke up and had breakfast. Breakfast was noodles and dumplings. I was so full and wanted to sleep more but we started on our next adventure. The small quiet town was now full of people. It's a famous area where people come to see the mountains and ride on the river. We went for a river ride. It was beautiful. Coco enjoyed the ride as well. Sitting in my lap and enjoying the wind in her hair. I was in awe and amazement. Realizing why I loved this place so much from the first visit! I took pictures and videos! I could help how happy I was smiling ear to ear. Everyone was happy. After the boat ride we walked through the village where there was shopping and a temple. We walked around for a bit and then left for Guilin. We took a back road to get to Guilin. It was absolutely stunning. We brought oranges and stopped to take photos! We laughed in the car and all somehow took a nap before arriving in Guilin about and hour and a half later! We stoped on the water. We walked around. Then they went into a frenzy for finding a hotel. None of the hotels would except coco. I felt sad. I felt like I was somehow ruining the trip but they all were happy and smiling and telling me not to worry. We finally got a hotel room. During this whole time I'm texting my friend Zen who is in the same city for the holiday. We were trying to coordinate a meeting. It then it got late. We went to dinner and had a blast. More food and beer. Some of the same dishes and some different. I was overwhelmed by the amount of fun I was having. I felt so good and comfortable. Never letting my guard down but enjoying the whole experience. After dinner we all went to sleep because we're were so tired from the eventful day we just had. The next morning we woke up. We had breakfast and we were off to the Elephant Trunk Hill. For some reason at this point I was tired. I was exhausted. I was tired from not talking, from hearing constant Chinese and not knowing what was happening. Everyone could tell and they bared with me. They made me feel ok by trying to communicate with me. They wanted to hold Coco's leash and they offered smiles all the time. We got to the Elephant Trunk hill and it was crowded. We got inside and I was overwhelmed by the amount of people. I feel so isolated. But I had fun. We walked up what seemed like 50,000 steps to get to the top of the hill. It was crowded and I was feeling short of patience. Coco was tired and so was I. But the views brightened my day. I wasn't so tired anymore! I took pictures. Was able to think deeply about a few important issues in my somewhat complicated Chinese life and enjoy the company of strangers who I now call friends. We were at the top for about 2 hours, taking pictures and walking around. We then went down and went to the other side where we could take pictures of the hill. It was so crowded. I know I've said this several times but I don't think you can understand what I mean. There were guards directing the people traffic. We had to stop walking to let a sea of people come the other way. I was overwhelmed and had to carry coco for most of the day. After about 4 hours at the park we arrived at a small island where we had to cross a scary bridge. But it was peaceful. They were throwing rocks in the water and everyone around was happy and throwing rocks and enjoying themselves. I was having a culture shock moment but I kept it together. I had walked around for 4 hours with thousands of people and didn't see not one other foreigner. It was weird but then I saw a white guy like 20 minutes later lmao. We left the park and walked around the city. Had a small lunch and then walked around some more. We walked for a goal of 6 hours. I was exhausted. I started the day tired and annoyed and ended it exhausted and uncomfortable. Not to mention the 8 hour car ride ahead. Finally, we left! I was so happy. As soon as we got in the car I feel sleep. I sleep for about 5 of the 8 hours back home. I felt so much better when I woke up! We stopped for gas and snacks along the way and listened to Chinese pop music and I could feel that they didn't want to leave. That they dreaded going back to regular life. The feeling we all get at the end of a good vacation. A good time with friends. They kept their spirits up but I could tell none of them were ready to go back to Shenzhen. I finally got home at about 1 am. It's now early Tuesday morning. I had spent the last 4 days with these guys. When I was getting out of the car they all said Bye and called me friend. They were so nice to me. Most of the time while we were away they protected me. The watched out for me. They surrounded me when we all walked together, they wouldn't let me out of their site! I felt like I made 4 new good friends. They made a believer out of me. I would have never done something like this at home. They helped me to believe that there are good people in the world. They just wanted to show me how the Chinese celebrate their new year and I embraced it. I'm proud of myself for taking that leap of faith. Otherwise I would have been home bored and hungry lol. Now I'm excited to see what next year could bring! The year of the rooster started with a bang! I made new friends and experienced the new year in an authentic way. I tried new foods I've never had before and I really opened my mind to doing something I never thought I would or could do! I made myself proud! I made myself feel better. I opened up in a new way! This experience changed me. It changed my way of thinking. It made me a more refined me. It gave me time to reflect and take I all that was happening around me. I now want to learn Chinese. At first I had no desire. The language is difficult but it's interesting. It's different. And I'm ready to fill 2017 with new, interesting and different things!
