Ok.

Kind of hilarious reading about how Emmerich and Devlin were bitter about their planned Stargate film trilogy being cancelled by MGM in favor of reworking it as a TV show and that they were both being pushed out…

…and then a few pages later learning that Glassner and Wright were behind the scenes, both pitching SEPARATELY to MGM that it would be a way better show than a movie trilogy. Glassner was even threatening to leave MGM because another show was burning him out. They didn’t want to lose him and he told them he’d consider staying for a Stargate show.

Oop.

#the DRAMA #don’t get me wrong I’m VERY glad we got SG-1 but that kinda sucks for the original guys #Chevrons Locked: The Unofficial and Unauthorized Oral History of Stargate SG-1 The First 25 Years #stargate (1994)#stargate sg1 #Devlin also apparently hated the nudity in the pilot and didn’t even finish watching it #Although there doesn’t seem to have been a grudge that lasted… at least not one the book remarks on #I guess Emmerich and Devlin did alright for themselves a few years later with Independence Day and let it go #If you’re curious: the show burning Glassner out was The Outer Limits… when he kept working on CONCURRENTLY with Stargate for two years #The look behind the scenes at how film gets made is both fascinating and depressing #A look at how a capitalistic structure controls and strangles art #It just highlights for me how important fanfiction is: to take a story and shape it as you will without that controlling interest #ash speaks
