The wraparound is a mockumentary about vhs tapes containing proof of alien activity that an anonymous Redditor came across, the footage of which has been digitized and is now being shown to us. I was honestly concerned about how they were going to handle the "sci-fi" theme because some part of me in the back of my mind is always afraid of a repeat of V/H/S: Viral.

I'm not in love with straying from the found footage roots and how crisp and clean the first vignette looks with obvious cinematic cuts, but I'm willing to hear it out. A rash of babynapping has led to a team of cops infiltrating a dilapidated manor infested with zombies.

Well, this is a better Resident Evil than the actual Resident Evil films.

That baby is obviously a dummy, which would have been obscured a little better if this "body cam footage" wasn't quite so 4K high-definition. To be fair though, Dead Meat's new video on V/H/S/94 let it slip that Shudder has guidelines for the look and feel of original content. So that's a pill that just needs to be swallowed.

So the wraparound is giving lore about the home in the first vignette, interesting. I wonder if that means all of the segments are about...nope, now we're following Indian paparazzi as they hound a movie star with a mysterious past.

This actually has some moments of found footage style, which I was hoping to see. In general, I liked this one more than I thought I would. When we actually got a clear look at Tara's face, it was a lot less mechanical than I expected. I figured we were doing a full T-1000.

Now we got a group of skydivers celebrating their friend's birthday, and this is definitely doing a better job at the notion of being amateur footage by someone fucking around with a camera. Even if the quality is still too "clean".

Oh shit, oh fuck.

Well, once again, the cinematographic vibe got "better" once shit hit the fan.

Oh dear god, I thought he just pulled his cord too late. I didn't know his friend saved him and...oh, god. I don't know what James A. Janisse will think, but that's my pick for Golden Chainsaw right now.

Oh, this is the most gruesome vignette by far, and all of it is completely realistic so far. Besides a UFO causing the plane to crash, I mean.

I'm not sure if I loved how the...umm..."fur babies" looked, especially in the shots where it was obviously just a person since the shots using a puppet made the limb proportions look way different. But the concept behind this entire vignette was horrific in the best way. I was not expecting this film to go the places it has gone. However, I'm not sure "reconstructive surgery to turn people into dogs" actually counts as sci-fi. I was expecting the woman to be an alien in disguise.

Now an intrepid independent reporter is interviewing people who saw lights in the Mojave desert.

I don't know what I'm looking at here, some sort of string instrument-based operating system for a UFO? Nanomachines that heal injuries?

Oh no, if the aliens and animals were put in stasis for the space journey and she's just rawdogging it, what's going to happen?

Getting maimed on the strings and being reconstructed by the nanites that don't have a genetic template for humans so they're filling in the gaps with lizard, octopus, and tarantula. Good lord, I knew they wouldn't go out on a weak note.

Can you reveal the ethnicities of your Smurfs humanizations humans?

Sure, I can answer this one without drawing anything so I can do it today XD Disclaimer, because I don't 100% know what I'm talking about all of the time so bare with me here. I may have to just state country of origin for some of them, and tbh for some characters I just don't know! I threw a colour pallet together and went 'yeah this looks good :)' so I'll mention that where prompted lmao.

I draw a lot of characters so I'll try to be fairly concise XD I generally associate the characters to their (mostly 80's) accents, and less the 'Belgian' nationality, so that's a start.

But again since race =/= nationality you get characters like Papa, Smurfette, Vanity, Farmer, Dreamy, Handy & Clumsy etc who are white Americans, Tracker and Marco who are white Englishmen, Gutsy is a white Scottish man, Painter is a white frenchman etc tbh there's a fair few so I won't be too specific here.

Hefty, Tuffy, Grouchy, SmurfTulip, SmurfBegonia, Pushover & Weakling are all black Americans, and when I did the Smurf Gals I was able to be a little more focused on SmurfWillow and Blossom cause fun with flags. Willow is from Guadeloupe and Blossom is from Ghana.

SmurfStorm is Filipino but probably w/ mixed roots, which funfact actually came more from a humanisation of a character from another franchise I saw another artist do, their version of this character gave me Stormy vibes and it gave me a good direction to go in with her design! :)

To finish off the grove girls, I have SmurfLily is Chinese, SmurfMelody is Japanese, SmurfHoney and my oc SmurfGadget are Mexican, and coming back to SmurfMint as white presumably* American.

*She doesn't have a voice rn

For misc villagers, Tailor is an Ashkenazi Jewish man, but I'm not super familiar with the more specific details of that, I can say his physical design was inspired by real life celebrities of the same background. The same applies to his cousins Spinner and Weaver. Brainy tbh I don't even know myself XD The first time I ever drew him he looked kind of Korean, but as of his new redesign ... eh heck if I know. Brainy's vibing, that's what. Don and Chef are Italian, Poet is White-presumably some country of the Caribbean mixed but I haven't decided anything specific.

For the Smurflings we got uhh, Sassette is white American, Snappy is African American, Nat is native American and Slouchy is Thai.

And on the misc oc's side of things just to wrap em up we got Elena who's Spanish and Butcher who's South Korean. Luddite my next gen is Indian, so I suppose that makes Passive-Aggressive and Clueless both Indian as well, Dopey too cause he's Clueless' brother so three more for the pile. And obviously most next gen will take after their parents with the exception being Quixotic who's adopted and Brazilian, and Nova who is an alien so doesn't really count since they're not even technically humanised even in the humanised AU XD

You were in your room hanging out with your boyfriend of 3 years, Harry, when you were interrupted by your mom, “Y/N, I just got off the phone with your aunt from Udaipur, she has invited us for her daughter’s wedding, so you better start packing. Hello Harry.” she ordered before leaving.

You were 5 when you moved to Kingston from India, and your neighbors, the Hollands made you and your family very welcome and soon enough your friendship with Harry turned into something more.

You groaned as your mother left you with the news, you loved visiting India but it always annoyed you how your relatives said how white washed you were. Harry noticed your very obvious annoyed behavior, and thought of an idea which might make your trip better.

“Can I come?” he asked, ripping you out of your thoughts. You looked and him confusingly.

“Wha- why?”

“For many reasons. First, I’ll get to meet the rest of your family; second, India is a very beautiful country so it’ll be a great opportunity for me to take some photos and third,” he moved closer to you and holding your hands in his, “maybe you could take me sight seeing?” He asked with hope in his eyes. “Really? I mean are you sure? My family back home is very judgmental, you sure you’ll be able to handle it?”

“Of course! I mean we got your parents approval to date, so bad could it be?” You threw your head back laughing on how ignorant your boyfriend was of your family. “Oh, Harry you naive little boy.”

“I’m being serious!” he said sternly.

“Wow, really?”

“Please?”

“Ok, I’ll ask my mum.” When you went down to inform you mother she had the same reaction as you. “Beta, I fine with it but I really can’t say about your relatives.” she shrugged. “So can I take that as a yes?”

“Yes, he can come.” You were about to go and deliver the good news to Harry when she stopped you in your tracks. “But he is your responsibility.”

The next two weeks went by too quickly, checking flights, packing etc., From the time you arrived at the airport to the drive home, you could see how Harry’s face lit at the beautiful scenes of the city and how quick he was of capturing them on his camera. Settling in you kept your outfit ready for your cousins Mendhi ceremony the next day.

As you woke up with the sun, got ready for the day full of fun. You wore a teal green and pink ghagra choli, which was the first time Harry saw you wearing traditional wear, his jaw nearly dropped when he first saw you. Likewise for you it was Harry’s first time wearing a traditional kurta, he surely was trying his best to impress the rest of your family and by the looks of it, it was working out great so far.

As the celebrations began you found your self rather busy with catching up with your family and introducing Harry to some of them. When you were called by your aunts to apply mendhi on your hands you left your boyfriend with cousins, but somehow he managed to sneak out and find you.

“Things are going well I suppose?” you snickered.

“A bit.” He admitted shyly. While one of the ladies finished drawing the design on your hand she asked you if your “husband” wanted your initials on his palm, when you looked at him he was confused like as if he’d done something wrong.

“What’s wrong?” he asked.

“She’s asking me if you want my initials on your palm, they say the darker it is, the more deeper and stronger your love is for me.” you informed. Without sparing a second he shoved his palm in front of the lady enthusiastically making everyone giggle at his excitement.

A few hours later while you were busy catching up with your cousins suddenly the music and chattering of all the guests stopped, a certain curly haired boy standing in middle of the dance floor caught your attention, and one of your favorite song starts playing; badtemeez  dil.

Your jaw was wide open when the curly boy revealed himself who was none other than your boyfriend. As the beat continued, he very smoothly danced to you and closed your mouth, returning back to the dance floor.

For you Harry was always that guy would rarely dance in front of people, if you knew bringing him to India would bring a different side of him you would have done it sooner.

What was even more surprising was that Harry learnt every single step from the movie, and it was at that moment you realized to what lengths he could go to prove his love for you to everyone.

You can portray a sense of suspense and intrigue in a natural way that many other writers - published ones included - struggle with. –CURRENT–

Something that you have in common: We’re working towards getting to pretty much the same industry, we’re both competitive as fuck and hate losing, we love dogs though she’s way better at disciplining them, and we love our coffee.

Are they a friend or just an acquaintance? She’s already my girlfriend. But she’s also my best friend.

Do you make an effort to talk to them or wait for them to talk to you? It works both ways, but generally I’m more talkative and I like sharing stories so I initiate conversations more often. Sometimes it can be annoying when I feel like she never starts a convo first, but I’ve come to understand that she’s not really the texting/IM-ing type.

What happens when you make eye contact? I mean, we’re always making eye contact lol but if we do it accidentally, we usually give each other a smile.

How often to you get to see this person? I used to see her 2-3 times a week when we were still in school since I drove and it was easy to see her whenever I wanted and could. Now that we’re maneuvering ~employment~ and ~being an adult~ in the middle of Covid, we haven’t figured out our arrangement yet and how often we could see each other. At the moment, it’s 1-2 times a month.

What bothers you the most about this person? She can get a little selfish and fail to consider my emotions and vulnerability if a situation personally doesn’t bother her. I’ve asked her to work on it and I’ve seen progress here and there, but when it comes down to it she simply tends to be individualistic and likes to look out for herself. Those are not bad things per se, it’s just that they sometimes end up affecting me.

Who is usually the first to flirt? She is, but that’s saying a lot as we aren’t too much of the flirting type. Maybe flirt is the wrong word...I’d say she’s the first to act cheekily. 

–MEMORIES–

How, when, and where did you meet? i’ve known her for the last 18 years but did not formally meet her until 2011. She had a friend, I had a friend, and those friends were friends so they introduced us to each other and it turned out that it was the two of us who hit it off really well and it was the quickest I’ve gained a best frend. We had attended the same school since kindergarten and we became friends when we became classmates for the first time in 7th grade.

What did you first talk about? I have no idea what our first encounter covered anymore, but I can tell you that what gave me the sign that she was going to be my best friend was when she watched Johnny English Reborn one weekend and came back to school the next Monday a complete fangirl for Gillian Anderson. As someone who was in my own fandoms that time I needed someone with the same energy and humor, and she showed up at exactly the right moment.

What is the best thing they have done for you? Saved my life. Literally. I’ve had more lows than highs and she saw them all through with me every single time, whether it was being by my side when I needed to cry in my car for a whole evening or helping me make a Powerpoint presentation due the next day when my entire group was not helping me. 

When was the last time you saw them? The other day.

Last thing you said to them? I apologized for the late reply and explained that I was having dinner.

Last thing they said to you? She just replied to that ^ saying not to worry.

What originally caught your eye? I started finding her really pretty in junior year and loved that her mind was always racing with thoughts to share and stories to tell me. I can’t exactly pinpoint the moment when I started *liking* her though; it happened all so very suddenly.

What was your first impression? When I first met her 9 years ago I could hardly believe she’d want to meet me and eat lunch with me and stuff because she was a popular girl, very well-liked and got along with everybody; I was virtually unknown throughout grade school and never had friendships that lasted. It was very weird to suddenly be talking to her since she just seemed way out of my league but when I realized she’s just as weird and nerdy and goofy as I was and not at all like the mean popular girls we had, I immediately took a liking to her.

What was their first impression of you? No clue and she’d probably have no clue either even if you asked her. She’s very forgetful.

Were you ever previously involved with them? Yeah we went out in 2014 but broke up then got back together.

What is your most memorable moment with this person? I have so many. I can probably give you one for each year that we’ve been friends/girlfriends. Off the top of my head, I’d go with the fact that my first out-of-town trip alone was with her, when we celebrated my 20th birthday in Nasugbu and Tagaytay.

What is their best physical feature? I’d say her smile is my favorite, but I love so many features of her too like her eyes, dimples, hair, and the fact that I can squeeze her arms any time I want as she has a bit of chub :)

Personality trait? She cares so deeply about the people who mean a lot to her and would be very protective of them. Also, she’s super ambitious and isn’t one to shy away from a new or daring task.

What are they like in comparison to your last crush? The closest thing I have to a ‘last crush’ is Andi, but tbh I didn’t develop much of a relationship with her since she migrated just a year after we became friends. I can hardly remember the conversations we had either...personality-wise, I’d say Andi’s a little aloof (at least back then) and shy; she avoided me when we first encountered each other. Gab’s amiable and will be nice to everyone immediately.

What are they like in comparison to the last person you dated? The last two relationships I’ve had were/are with Gab, and I wasn’t seeing anyone before her.

How much older/younger are they than you? She’s younger by like a month and a half. Really no difference at all.

How much taller/shorter are they than you? She’s a few centimeters taller, not a dramatic difference but enough for it to be noticeable.

Where are they from? She’s from the same city but we live on opposite ends, so it takes around 30-45 minutes to get to her place depending on how fast I’m driving ha. 

What do they look like? She’s around 5′3″, the prettiest wavy hair, big eyes, chubby cheeks, and she got a bit of West Asian genes due to her Turkish blood. 9 out of 10 times she gets asked if she’s Indian.

Describe their smile: It’s very warm and friendly. I automatically smile when I see it.

What about their friends? Her friends and I have different personalities so we don’t get to hang much, but Kris and Marts are very nice and have always been to me.

Is this person talented/skilled? Very. Not being biased but I’ve noticed that she’s ended up being skilled enough at anything she tries, whether it’s singing, playing a sport, handling a balisong, etc. She’s good at everything and it makes me kinda annoyed sometimes hahaha, because I’m so clumsy and only good at like three things.

Popular/well-known? S u p e r. She will light up any room she enters and people just naturally flock to her. She’s very sociable and knows how to handle all kinds of people and make them feel at ease. I’m the complete antithesis of her lol. 

What school do they go to? We went to the same school from kindergarten to high school, then for university she went to a school a couple of cities away from mine.

What kind of car do they drive? I can’t remember exactly even though I just saw it the other day skskkssk it’s either a Honda Civic or a Toyota Vios.

What kind of clothes do they wear? Sometimes she’ll put her rich aunt vibes out and wear nice flowy printed dresses or blouses. But she mostly dresses casually; a graphic tee or polo shirt with high-waisted denim jeans do it for her.

What would you do if they asked you out right now? I’d say there’s still a curfew and we can get arrested ha, but we can try the next day.

What do you want to happen next? I just want the journey to be smooth. We’re in a different chapter now and we’re no longer just college kids with safety nets and we’ve had more frequent serious conversations about our priorities, commitment, and our relationship in the long run. Who are your fave artists?Ed’s first two albums are amazing, the recent one is more pop, but there are a few beautiful songs! YESS! OMG LM ARE SO UNDERRATED AND IT IS DEPRESSING! yeah, I saw the news. I am upset, but I also really am happy that she finally can focus on herself. The industry is too messed up and I hope she gets to where she wants to be mentally and emotionally. She really deserves the best! How are you coping with that?

I have a friend who has no sense of rhythm, is stiff as a rock. We ended up being partners when we learnt Salsa in school, and she chose to be the “lead” and i was to follow her. It was not an easy ride, but in the end we got a B for the exam. So i believe that if she can get a B, anyone can dance! Just gotta keep trying! 💪 HAHAHAH IKR! it is always fun to just belt out and have bathroom concerts! -beabadoobee: indie, acoustic-y, kinda soft and sad lol. Project of Bea Regner (Filipino).

Hey I saw your tags, & I was just wondering what is racist in su & gf? I'm just genuinely curious!

Well first of all sorry about the late reply i've been pretty busy! Second of all this might be a pointless reply, considering these fandoms, but fuck it. Stevies university and its fandom loves to preach itself as being diverse and woke yet does the same stuff that other fandoms do. Remember when Garnet or Amethyst got an arc for themselves? Me neither. Literally they're both "fusion" and the "fat friend" at this point. Both get little to no development for themselves which becomes ridiculous when theres been an interesting amount of focus and detail concerning Pearl. The Sardonyx arc, you know the arc which should have shown that Garnet is allowed to show that she can be vulnerable and that hurting others has consequences, was established as a Pearl arc. Literally it focused on the one that caused said problem instead of the one that got hurt when it shouldve focused on both atleast. Its also interesting how Garnet was stoic and silent when she was Darker in season 1 yet after her immediate regeneration in the end of the season she becomes lighter and more open. It probably wasnt intentional, considering Garnet got some growth by the season to become more open since Stevie met her halves, but its a tiring trope or "Stoic black woman finally gets to have a personality out of being serious and strong" which lasted a season. By season 3 shes literally the fusion friend. Aka the only episodes where she gets some focus are concerning fusion, which isnt wrong considering she is one, but it gets ridiculous not giving her anything else to work for. Amethyst was used as a "self hate" trope, which was great initially however it got repetitive and nothing was truly done. Remember season 3 when Amethyst was like "i hate myself thx Jasper" and Stevie was like "i hate myself too ok" and had a episode dedicated to it. It didnt seem necessary to have a competition on who hates themselves more when they could've, oh i dont know, learn and show compassion to one another as well as understanding each others. While it isnt exactly racism, i just dislike how the emotions in this show is just cry cry and we never mention it ever again. "Bismuth" was a display of "angry black woman' considering Bismuth wanted to kill a dictator and Stevie was like "b-hut th' hat'll make us just as bad l1ke them!!!1" and then Bismuth got poofed for wanting to kill dictators cause she was black and mean :// i get the whole "she tried to kill stevie" she thought he was rose and before anyone says "still murder tho" well ya faves Pearl Lapis and Peridot did the same shit too while the big bad butches Bismuth and Jasper suffer forever :). "Earthings" was a favorite of mine but I thought it used Smoky Quartz at the wrong time. Like the episode literally says that Amethyst could never beat Jasper no matter how she tries which really wasnt a good lesson tbh "hard work doesnt pay off, genetics does!!". Smoky was formed from a emotional bond which was nice but i thought it wouldve been better if Amethyst had accepted stevies help and that they could be fucks up together and said fusion would happen naturally instead of using fusion as just "wow we cant do shit on our owns :/// thanks rock genetics". The rubies literally got left in space to die when they were so easy to dispatch and Steven pulled the "i wanted to help eyeball" while he left the other 4 rubies to die instead of giving them a chance since wow they're??? Their own gems and deserve a chance. Said fandom demonized Navy and called her a sociopath for gaining Stevie's and the barn lesbians trust and taking the ship. These were some detailed reasons why the fandom and show seem hypocritical when they pull their "we care about diveristy but we aint gonna bother showing it" aka if youre not white coded rip you. Connie and Lars' heritage? Not necessary since theyre not white lol. Lars got a confirmed race like 4 episodes before he became pink so if we hadn't seen him before he got pink then we wouldve never known since he wouldnt look like a poc and he doesnt talk about his heritage so he wouldnt sound like one either. The fandom was also like "omgggg look at this one pic of Connie's mom wearing Indian clothes" while refusing the claim that we dont need to hear about anyone's heritage since it isn't "realistic" for POC to talk about it. Interestingly, most white fans say this claim hmm. Blue Diamond had some concerns syrrounding whitewashing, which appears to be due to lighting/ not official design. The problem was that BD was shown to be crueler in Season 2 when she was going to kill Ruby for doing her job. A Wild Day From Start To Finish

Man, what a DAY I am having. I woke up naked with Nutella on my face, and it was all uphill from there. Apparently last night was lit, a little too lit, and a little gay. I went out with a weird disarray of people, one of them being my good friend Ship, who I kiss regularly when we go out. And we get pretty gay. And this other girl who I met during rush wanted to meet up so I saw her at the second frat we went to and I have no memory of what happened but I was definitely getting gay vibes. I’ve gotten gay vibes a few times whilst out but not often on Greek Row. When we went clubbing that one Thursday with Eve, I was talking to this one girl from Finland or Poland or something for a while about Buddhism and tattoos and I think she was on cocaine but I was definitely getting sexual vibes tbh. 

So I woke up naked with Nutella on my face. More accurately, I woke up with very little memory of the night before; whatever memories I did retain were good and quite lit, however. I definitely feel like someone offered me cocaine but of course I would never. Anyway, The Nutella. I woke up actually proud of myself, thinking I came home after a long and late night out on the town and went straight to bed, actually not finessing any late night fat people food. I lay in bed for about half an hour, just on my phone, enjoying the late morning/midday air. Until I opened Snapchat to take a selfie of myself; then, I saw it. A smear on my left cheek. I had hoped it were lipstick, puke, even, then realized with a dawning horror--it was indeed Nutella. My eyes rushed to the windowsill, where I keep my Nutella, only to confirm my suspicions. IT WASN’T THERE. I let out a desperate “NO!!!!!” and ran to my desk, where I found the evidence of my crime. An open Nutella jar with a knife lying next to it and several clearly extravagant swoops out of the Nutella. I had failed. The sad thing is, I have absolutely no memory of eating Nutella. NONE.

Anyway, once I got over this horror, I continued on with my day, going to Moffitt to work on my presentation that I had later that day with Gina, a great person. As we left to go to discussion, I remember debating getting coffee at Free Speech, as I needed a pick-me-up, but the line was just too damn long so I figured I would wing it. BUT, low and behold, on my way to VLSB, what do I run into but a BABY. It quite literally stumbled upon me, sitting in his grandma’s arms. Taken aback, I scream, “HI!” The baby really REALLY loved me as much as I did, and was quite excited by my presence. He was smiling brightly and giggling, clearly enticed with my person. We continued to interact and play until his grandmother literally HANDED him to me, and who was I to fight such an opportunity? I slyly put my lighter away and took the babe into my arms. Dear Gina thankfully documented the moment and thank GOD they’re Live Videos. God he was the cutest, smiliest, most wholesome baby ever. Our connection was so noticeable that his PARENTS got a pic of the two of us WITH the grandma. Truly an amazing experience. I will never forget him. And as I left, he tried to reach for me and kept touching my face and smiling, GOD he was so adorable. So anyway, I basically got the pick-me-up I was looking for, and continued my day high off baby.

After an AMAZING presentation by me and Gina, I decided on a whim to get Chinese food with Leah to reward myself, despite the fact that I am quite rapidly growing obese. But whatever. After, I was on my way to Moffitt when I decided to stop by the smoker’s pit for a #stoke. And after some minor harassment from the local homeless man that wears a witch’s hat and doodles a lot on paper, I ended up hanging out with this dude from India. Exactly what happened was, as usual, the man asked everyone to bum a cig, and I usually ignore, but this dude next to me actually engaged and asked for 50 cents or a story. So he kept talking, and never stopped, and that guy left, leaving me and this dude with the homeless man. He started harassing me and I shouldn’t have even replied in the first place, but he just kept getting angrier and angrier and yelling and heckling and basically calling everyone racist (he’s black), and I got freaked out so I asked the guy next to me to wait with me while I finish my cig since he had finished, ‘cause I didn’t wanna be alone with the guy. So we started talking and turns out he’s a freshman too and from India/Dubai, knows a bunch of people I know from Unit 2 Davidson, and I mentioned this on Snap to Christoper (same building), who informed me that he is wealthy. Like, PRINCE level royalty level wealthy. Which obviously isn’t a big deal, I know lots of rich people, but knowing me I made it a big deal and have already made it into a meme where we all call him Indian Prince. Anyway, really nice guy, clearly likes me, sorta hot, asked me about my tattoos and life which is a nice change from all these fucking narcissists that just want to talk about themselves and leave me on read after fucking my brains out. ANYWAY. Before you know it, I’m going to DOE Library with him just for the hell of it. It closed at 9, so we switched back to Moffitt and stopped by Free Speech for coffee and he insisted on paying for me which DEFINITELY means he likes me. Anyway now we’re at Moffitt but not sitting together ‘cause it’s packed but I basically ended up on a library date with an Indian prince. So it’s been quite a day. While he isn’t really my type, I’m open to trying new things. But I’m not gonna gold dig him or anything.
