But eeeey, don't worry! I made the Beasts vague enough, that any design you guys do for them could be canon! :D Because they used to be normal humans/monsters, they can technically come in any shape and size. Certain Beast types just have certain characteristics that fit them into a category, but they can technically be any design your heart desires <3

I will say though... your previous Beast design looked a lot like what a Hellhound could be. What are those??? Let's just say, don't worry about it :)

I cry throughout my flight to Amsterdam, the minimal times I stop something ends up setting me off again. The flight attendants must think I'm completely insane. I don't get much better on the connecting flight from Amsterdam to Bristol, maybe it's knowing I have to face someone from Lando's family to get my car. I always knew it would be a bad idea leaving my car at their house when I went to Monaco.

I'm truly devastated at what has happened. I never in a million years thought Lando would do this to me. Everything about him was a green flag except it turns out he's the biggest red flag walking.

I've got countless missed calls and texts from Lando but truthfully he's the last person I want to speak to. If my phone didn't need to be turned on for my boarding pass, it would be off and no one would be able to contact me. Being honest my dad is the only person I'm happy to hear from right now.

I know it's early in Austin but my dad has already text to see how I'm feeling. He knows me well enough to know that a phone call isn't what I need right now but I know he's at the other end of the phone when I need him. I have no doubt in my mind that he's told my mum what happened, in fact the whole world probably knows. As I wait for my taxi to Lando's parents house I do the worst thing I could do, I open instagram. The first thing I see is a gossip page with a photo showing clear as day that I slapped Lando across the face with the caption detailing my anger at Lando and the fact the slap silenced the paddock. I can see the rage on my face in one of the photos shared and it's terrifying.

I was in shock when I done it but now I'm over that I fully think he deserved it. The sheer audacity of him to not only behave the way he did but to then stand in the paddock laughing like nothing happened. Watching the world pass me by I almost don't want to get out of the car the closer I get to Lando's parents house. I can't sit in the taxi forever but I know I have to do it. Letting out a deep breath to steady myself I knock on the door unsure of the reaction I'll get. I'm under no illusion that everyone will know what happened but I just want my car from the garage so I can leave.

"Hey how you feeling? Come in" Flo says as she opens the door to me. Seeing Lando's sister stood in front of me my eyes fill with tears again. His full family are such nice people and they've welcomed me with open arms.

It's hard to imagine not having these people in my life even after only meeting them a handful of times. Seeing Lando's mum walk into the hallway is all it takes for me to break down. Again. I've cried more tears over this man in the last 12 hours than I have ever have over a man.

"Lucía you're going to be okay" Cisca says wrapping her arms around me "my son is an idiot"

"I could kill him. He's such an idiot. You're the best thing to ever happen to him, I'm tempted to get on a flight to Austin to slap the other side of his face" hearing Flo so angry with her brother hurts me. This is between me and Lando, I don't want his family turn against him.

"Flo that's enough, Lucía doesn't need this"

"Mum are you joking! He's embarrassed himself and ruined the best thing in his life. No brother of mine would ever treat a girl so badly! He's been taught better than that"

The road back to Cheshire feels like it goes on forever, I keep the radio on as a distraction until Kelly Clarkson's Behind These Hazel Eyes starts to play and I lose it once again. I have to pull over onto the hard shoulder as I can't see through my tears. This man has broken me.

Eventually I'm able to start driving again and all I can think of is being back in my own bed hiding from the world. I haven't checked the results of qualifying, I don't want to know and I certainly don't want to watch the race. I feel bad knowing I'm not watching my dad but let's be honest Sky Sports show very little of him racing anyway. Pulling up at home I can see the light on and I know my mum will be waiting for me. I haven't told her I'm coming home early but I know my dad will have phoned to tell her. Walking into the living room the second I see my mum I burst into tears for what feels like the millionth time.

"It's okay baby. You're home" my mum says pulling me into her arms rubbing my back "cry as much as you want my girl. Your dad told me everything"

P H Y S I C A L     A S P E C T S

Hair: Long and naturally straight. Often, Nomin's hair is seen as wavy, though due to frequently braiding it, her hair often retains a wave to it. It is a light blue in color, and is kind of oily looking on most days -- this is due to her traveling a lot. However, when she has access to amenities, she takes just as good care of her hair as she does her scales.

Eyes: Teal with aquamarine limbal rings and black sclera.

Skin: Muted ultramarine with inky black scales that bear cerulean striations and markings.

Tattoos/scars: Nomin has no tattoos and has no intention of ever getting any. Scars, on the other hand, she has several of. There are two big ones I don't draw currently just due to not really knowing how to go about it just yet. Regardless, Nomin has two large slashes on her back that have stunted the growth of scales within that region. She has two relatively deep arrow pock scars in her left shoulder and lower left abdomen. The scars I don't draw (yet) are relatively large aetherial burn scars that go from her hands all the way up around her elbows -- maybe a little past it -- from helping tear the Eyes of Nidhogg from Estinien. She has matching scars with Alphinaud in that regard in how I've planned my writing.

F A M I L Y

Parents: Somewhere among the Tumet. Dead? Alive? Who knows. Nomin doesn't really care. And not in a malicious way, she just... They don't occupy her mind. They don't matter to her. Later in Heavensward, she does start to see Edmont akin to a father-like figure.

Siblings: Adoptive. Nomin's siblings are Esenaij and Bayarmaa of the Sagahl. Later in Heavensward, after hearing that Haurchefant considered her like a sister, she warms up to the idea of Artoirel and Emmanellain being brother-like figures to her.

Grandparents: Nomin is sure she has some! But she's really not too interested in delving into her family history when it comes to that of the Tumet.

In-laws and Other: I suppose Alberic is more or less something of a father-in-law. I haven't really written too much, but I'd like to explore more of Nomin's dynamic with him. I think she gets along well enough with him, and is glad that he and Estinien were able to bury the hatchet.

Nomin also has three children with Estinien in some timeline or another. It's separated from the main stuff to kind of adjust it as needed. All their children have two names -- one of Steppe origin, and one of Coerthan/Ishgardian origin. Their first kids were twin girls, Bayarmaa/Cyrielle and Chotan/Fleurette Varlineau. Twelve years later, they have their son, Esenaij/Hamignant Varlineau. They all tend to prefer using their Coerthan/Ishgardian names over their Steppe names.

Pets: Mori - a horse earned from her time in the Jhungid; he is one of Nomin's most stalwart companions, and she cares for him deeply. Gürvel - a frilled lizard that was intent on stealing some of Nomin's vilekin; through a mutual understanding, they became buddies on the Steppe.

Abilities: Painting; it's a hobby she picked up since she often drew in the dirt when she had nothing in the Tumet. When her adoptive sister, Bayarmaa, had been more than happy to go ahead and help teach her, Nomin was quick to pick up on it. She now paints gorgeous landscapes and sceneries -- she can even paint them from her mind's eye, often able to remember them in vivid detail. She does like having the actual thing in front of her, though.

Archery; Nomin had several teachers that helped with her archery and in giving her tips on how to hone her abilities. She has a keen eye and a steady aim that rivals even some of the best of the Dazkar hunters.

Survival; one doesn't just simply run away from their oppressors and start roaming the Steppe without picking up some things and learning how to thrive off of the land. Thanks also to the teachings of the Sagahl and their way of life, Nomin is very aware of stuff on the Steppe, and is more than willing to learn when she goes to new places so that she can take care of herself using what the land provides.

Hobbies: Painting, reading, gardening. There are also some board games that Nomin likes. She's actually quite fond of shatar and chess, though she feels like she could still never play kharaqiq properly.

Most Positive Trait: Her ability to get back up again. There are so many things that have knocked her down, or brought her to her knees, but Nomin is just too stubborn to stay there. She freed herself from her binds when she was ten summers, and she is not going to let that moment be in vain.

Most Negative Trait: Shutting people out. Nomin's very kept to herself, and with her past trauma, she just doesn't really want to involve a lot of people too deeply into her life. She keeps people at arm's length for a long time, and preferred it that way for a good portion of her time since escaping the Jhungid. Even if her Echo could help give her some insight on who to trust and who not to trust.

When Insecurity Makes You Racist

Ya'll, I've got some stuff I wanna get off my chest.

So this morning there I was, drinking my tea, trying to decide which story I was going to continue working on, minding my own damn business for once when on twitter (I'm not calling it X. I said it, and I don't care) I saw a tweet from a mutual talking about some Chucklehead who had created a burner account on Goodreads (seriously, who the fuck does this?) and was mass one-starring books by other indie authors on there. Wait, because there's more.

As if this wasn't shitty enough, this person was also five-starring their own book, which will debut in 2024.

So, naturally, I did some digging as I do because I'm nosy af. Fortunately, I wasn't the only one wanting to know the tea, but unfortunately, it doesn't appear as though there's much more information out there except that this author, who I will remind you has not even published their book yet, is acting a damn fool and threatening their own career before it even kicks off.

I did manage to find this thread, which appears to be the original tweet that kicked all this off on twitter, but doesn't go into very much detail. It does, however, reveal another sickening aspect of this fuckery that l i t e r a l l y makes me want to riot, and that this...author was/is "using clearly POC names in the fake accounts to upvote every negative review on POC books so the top ones are all one and two star."

It got me to thinking about how precious and valuable reviews are. How much we crave them as indie authors because it's what will boost our books in the algorithm and get our book into the hands of the next reader. It's our lifeblood. A review and/or rating on Goodreads can absolutely make a difference, especially to indie authors since we only have ourselves and the generosity of our peers to market our books.

So, for an author to betray that is such a disheartening thing. I can't imagine taking the time to create a burner account for the sole purpose of trying to tear down my fellow indies. What's worst, and most likely the most egregious aspect of all of this is that they're weaponizing a POC identity (which I don't even know that they are actually POC) in order to tear down POC authors.

Being an indie author is hard. You're responsible for every aspect of writing, preparing, marketing and selling your book. There's an enormous amount of pressure that naturally comes with being an indie author. Not to mention the constant intrusive thoughts of "what if no one reads my book?" It's hard. But to go out of your way to sabotage other authors so that your book does well is not the way. As indies, we've GOT to have each other's backs, and yes, even call each other out when necessary. This person has not been identified as of yet, and I honestly don't know how I feel about that.

On one hand, there is zero attention on them as an individual and all the attention on their racism and blantant disrespect for the indie community, specifically the POC author community, and therefore their book, name is not receiving any attention apart from the five stars they're giving themselves. But on the other hand, does this mean they're going to be able to get away with their behavior?

It would be bad enough if this were a one-off thing, where they posted one bad review and upvoted themselves one time. I would still say expose their asses if I'm being honest. But this is m u l t i p l e instances of this and in a short period of time.

This is not okay.

And will them getting away with it encourage them to do it again or do something similar?

Personally, I want to know who they are so that I don't support them even by accident, but I know it isn't necessarily my place to demand this. We'll see what happens. As of right now, it appears the person who first posted about it is giving them a chance to knock it the fuck off, which is so incredibly generous, and in my opinion is more than they deserve.

I don't know if this person will heed their advice and stop the fuckery, but I know that I cant just sit idly by and wait for tea — though I most certainly will be watching this and waiting for any additional tea, because friends, I AM A NOSEY BITCH! That and I want to make sure this author never accidently ends up in my TBR because literally fuck them, and their racist burner accounts.

Still, this whole thing makes me want to do something. Not just talk about doing something or talk about how fucked this is — and it is, absolutely fucked. So I kept digging, hoping to at least find a list of those authors targeted so that I could use what platform I have to share their work.

The only post I've been able to find thus far is this one, calling for exactly the same thing, a list of all the authors who have been victimized by a person that should have been cheering them on, not plotting and mobilizing to sabotage them. Thus far, only one name has been identified, at least that I have found, but I will be keeping my eyes open for more, and I will update this post every time I find a new name. I implore you, if you're a reader and want to support indie authors, give their books a read. Leave them a review on Goodreads as well as on Amazon (just copy and paste the same one, I promise it's fine) so that their book gets pushed out and promoted to other readers.
