I think that no one should like Valentino and yes, that's also includes if you only like his design or don't condone his actions, that is not give an excuse for what he's done. But no one is ready for that conversation.
I think it's okay if you find the design alright or if you find him as a villain well done like "Oh man, this dude is absolutely riveting and conniving, that's pretty good for a villain" sorta deal. A lot of Disney Villains are loved for how great their roles as villains are (and also cause they find their charisma believable and entertaining), but this is also what leads to a slippery slope sometimes
Rapists come in different forms and hide in plain sight sometimes, so to make one the kind that's charismatic to lure or trap people in their abuse is an accurate portrayal as well, but if one makes that same character so charismatic or "heheh goofs cutely" that it begins to feel like we're SUPPOSED to find them charming, there is an issue.
That's where my issue lies with the way some fans treat Val, including Viv and some of her crew. Rather than find him gross and detestable, they find him and his personality "attractive" when his personality consists of manipulation and aggression. They romanticize the abuse of his victim and even straight up ship the victim with the abuser and the accomplice. They even ship him with people he has been straight aggressive with when angered, showing that he is NOT fit to be in relationships PERIOD (this should be obvious af, but Viv doesn't gaf.)
Not all who like Val like his actions. Some simply think he works well as a villain or thinks he has a neat design, but I def see what you mean! It's a very understandable stance considering what character he is. I, for one, hate this dude. Nothing about him is interesting outside of his role in the story and who he's affiliated with. He's the least interesting of the V's as a result. He's a literal man child.

in today's twt recommends me shit I'm absolutely not the target audience of
actually I DO condone everything evil Eggman does because it's cool and sexy 💜 I'm offended when people assume I *don't* support him in everything he does lol
why would he be my f/o ig I hate everything he's actually about, to the point I can't even enjoy it from an entertainment perspective because he's evil? skill issue
also man all the replies are filled with "even tho they're bad people I can fix them!!! or shit like this reply
and my god if this isn't exactly what everyone who has a problem with me embracing Eggman's canon evilness does. they're saying the quiet part out loud
like by your own admission you just genuinely don't even like the character. it's like when I thought I was talking to fellow Eggman fans and they'd tell me they literally didn't like his evil and chose to ignore it- even though his evilness is literally on display 99% of the time he's onscreen
I cannot fathom why you'd call yourself a fan let alone want to self ship with them if you don't get any sense of enjoyment out of them being evil, when it's the whole point and focus on their character as the villain
that og post and all the replies are the finest example of how fandom puritanism is ruining how people see villains, their entire purpose and the way we are actually supposed to like them and see them as entertaining. it's not a moral obligation to condemn their evil actions. ignore them, or "headcanon them away into oblivion"
anyway you'll never catch me doing this. I'm a fan of and self ship with a villain because they are a villain and I also actually like the character. if I wanted a good guy I'd like a good guy and I don't need to try to change an already existing character into something I'd like more
I adore the evil bastard Eggman just the way he is and have no shame. I support him following his evil dreams and I'd happily be his partner in crime if he asked it of me lol 💜

in light of recent allegations towards Wilbur Soot I will no longer be posting any content concerning him or any of his fictional personas for an unknown period of time. I've only seen hate towards him, and yes what he did was horrible and I myself do not condone any of his actions on any level of any kind. It is not something to be taken lightly.
However...as a fan of both his video content and musical, it is a difficult thing to process as a man you have idolized for years is now being painted as the worst villain you could ever imagine him as.
Maybe Wilbur isn't a good person, maybe he deserves to be abandoned by every person ever close to him and have his career torn to shreds. Maybe he deserves everything that will likely be coming to him, but as a fan of what he has done in concern of entertainment and the storylines he has crafted to appease us, I can only hope that there is some sliver of redemption for him. This I say as, again, someone who has been admittedly obsessive with his content and hell, my main character for my real novel was originally based in likeness of him, granted this has changed over developement, Wilbur is still his core and Wilbur's content across multiple smp's and streams inspired many little concepts of this book.
So no, I do not condone Wilbur Soot's actions, and these allegations and admitted acts make me sick and saddened to find out, but there are some of us that will still love him after this is all said and done. Maybe not who is now, but who we was for us all those years ago. Wilbur Soot is not a good person, and I am deeply sorry for Shubble and I hope she recovers from these events quickly, and to my fellow fans who are just as shocked and hoping for a way through this.
I am sorry to you as well. Most of you probably won't see this, but abuse is an awful thing and to see someone whom you adored being at the center of pointed fingers can sometimes be just as painful. NOT that I am at all comparing or equalizing the two, but if the situation continues to go south as it probably will, we will be losing a hero and an inspiration.
So please, those who are pointing fingers, I am not saying to dull your words or sugar-coat your facts, I am just saying that if you know someone who might have been a fan of Wilbur, don't lash out at them. Do not reply angrily at them hoping that maybe, just maybe, there is hope for him yet.
There likely isn't, but this is a world of dreamers. Let us dream.

Actually, just on the topic of villainy, how did so many authors and fans get into their heads that the only way to "humanize" a villainous character is to make them as inoffensive and uwu as possible, which in turn only shatters their credibility as a villain? Is it the backwards moralist notion that, because you like a villain who is... just evil but in an entertaining way, you automatically condone all of their wrongdoings? Would fans feel bad about shipping the villain character (if they are conventionally attractive) with anyone else if they don't secretly feel much regret and angst over their actions? Of course there's also the other side of this, where a character's villain status is exaggerated to an unbelievably cartoonish degree, which in turn kills any believability, but I want to focus on the "redemption arc junkies" first.
Other villains who take pride in being goofy jokesters while also being evil bastards continue to be beloved to this very day (Joker, Green Goblin, etc). So it seems a lot of people just can't understand Eggman in particular, and I have no idea why. Especially annoying because you know the fans who claim that his evilness detracts from his depth are talking out of their ass, since they'll turn the other way and praise one-note cutouts like Mephiles and Eggman Nega for being evil.
The Softboi Eggman narrative is overwhelming and suffocating. Why do you think there's so many "He does what he does to avenge Gerald!" takes on the internet, despite there being absolutely no indication in the slightest that this was true before SA2, after SA2, or even during SA2?
You are right though in that there's a growing obsession with making villains in general "uwu so sweet", as if to ignore that they're villains at all. Not just in fanfics either: next to them getting unceremoniously killed off or humiliated, this is another way of Subverting Expectations you often see in recent media. The idea of a credible villain being allowed to just work their magic as a credible villain is... problematic to folk I guess, even though doing bad shit is the entire point of the villain. It's why they're the villain, and the villain doing bad shit doesn't mean the author condones what they do. If a character gets eaten by a dinosaur, that doesn't mean the author supports cannibalism.
And as for giving depth to a villain, there's more than one way of doing that, which also gets ignored by these sorts. Not every villain needs to have a gritty backstory or be made who they are by the cold harsh world, and if anything, if every villain were like that, none of them would stand out. There are ways to show another side to a villain without changing them radically, even when you're focusing on their actively evil attributes. Eggman is clearly not a tragic villain in the traditional sense, but you COULD say he's tragic in the sense that you have a brilliant man, who could change the world for the better in countless ways, yet he uses all his genius for his own demented, ego-driven benefit, and cares not a bit for the consequences of his crimes. He's tragic because no external force is making him like this, he doesn't have to be like this, and he could stop at any moment and help so many people if he wanted to... but he refuses, because the only one for him is him.
I don't want to say that Steven Universe certain media are single-handedly responsible for the growing trend of villains not being allowed to be villains... but I do think Steven Universe certain media have contributed to it being as common of a trend as it is.

I don't understand because they'll be people that are mad about those that woobify villains like Eggman just like I am, right. and I 100% agree and to show that, I express that I don't woobify or sugarcoat anything fucked up Eggman has done and instead embrace it, find his actions entertaining as they're written to be, and love him as a character. which means that I clearly recognize how evil he is, don't condone or excuse these actions, and just think he's an interesting, entertaining, and well put together character for that because they don't have to be good people to be fun and interesting in fiction.
but then those same people are like "waaa why are you attracted to dictators/fascists/abusers/murderers/etc!!!" just because I happen to find him hot too and don't say I hate him for being a terrible person. he's fictional and you should be glad that I recognize how fucked up he is and don't excuse his deeply evil fucked up actions, like I clearly just said when agreeing with you! you just can't win with some of these people. like damn sorry for recognizing the evil in his actions just like you but liking him in the "wrong" way just because I'm also attracted to him. as if that means I think the shit he does is good and I support real life terrible people 💀
how can these people judge me as a person in such a wild way and accuse me of loving real life types of fucked up people based on characters I happen to find sexy? absolutely stunned. stop putting words into my mouth and don't try to make such a bizarre and drastic connection that isn't true based off of that. Eggman is a terrible man and I know this and I'll never pretend that he isn't but I can love him all I want while knowing this, you can die mad about it. besides, there are worse characters I could be attracted to than an evil and funny old egg shaped man, so no need to be so judgemental and accusatory towards me and what I think and feel as a real life person. cut that out, it's fucked up
