please...help me - sylus x mc!reader. part 1
sypnosis: you call sylus to escape caleb.
a/n: i know i'm not the only one who thought this, a lot of us sylus girlies wanted to call out man and get him our of sjyhaven ASAP. so i wrote this little fic for that, and as you can tell by the title this is just part 1. ofc that means there'll be a part 2, maybe a part 3??? let's wait and see :)
warning: caleb being possessive (yandere??). mc (you) feeling uncomfortable and scared of caleb. hurt and some comfort by sylus (i luv you<3 ). this is rushed and like all my fics, have no grammer check.
word count: 990
RING RING
The vibration of the phone rang loudly through the bathroom, the one place Caleb grants you privacy. More than one you were thankful that he wasn’t here, his duty calling him out to do some work, work that you don’t question anymore, exactly how he likes it.
“I’ll be back soon, Pip-squeak,” He said with a tone meaning for warmth, but you feel the opposite, especially when he looks at you with a smile, the one you remember from your childhood, but it’s not the same anymore.
“Don’t cause any ruckus, ok? We don’t need a repeat of last time.”
You shudder at the memory, the way his hand had gripped your wrist and dragged you to your bedroom and placed you not so gently on your bed, scolding you not following his orders and locked you in. He would only allow you to come out for food and he would watch you the whole time you ate, sending shivers of fear down your spine the more it went on. It lasted for two weeks, after that you had a bit more freedom, but every night he would announce it was time for you to sleep and lock you in the bedroom, the next would be the same.
And you hated it. You hated how different he was, how much he had changed since you last saw him. Where was the Caleb that joked around with you? The one that always picked you up when you were feeling down? The one that would wipe away your tears and hold you close?
Where’s one where you felt safe with?
Gone. He was all gone, and he scared you. You couldn’t stay here any longer, to try and get the old Caleb back. You had enough of being ordered around and being scared.
RING RING
Despite Caleb’s watchful eye you managed to snag a new phone as he confiscated yours, checking though all your data to make sure you couldn’t leave, Luckily you thought he would do that and got rid of anything that would get you into trouble; contacts, messages and pictures in your camera roll. So far he hasn’t commented on anything which you pat yourself on the back for.
Another thing your proud of is remembering a phone number, just one that you know would get you out of here.
RING RING
“Please pick up…” You whispered desperately. You have called the number twice now, and you hope people are right when people say third time's the charm, because you needed as much luck as possible right now.
RING RING -
“I must say your persistence to get hold of me is both annoying and -”
“Sylus!” You couldn’t hold back the happiness as you heard his voice, it had been so long since you last heard it.
“...Is that you, sweetie?”
“It is.” You answer, the endearing name making you blush instantly.
“Who’s phone are you calling on? Did you get a new phone and not tell me?”
“I’ll tell you that later but I need you to listen to me.” Time was of the essence, and you didn’t want to waste any of it. “I need you to track this phone and come help me.”
“Help you?” His tone held confusion. “What trouble have you gotten into now?”
“Don’t ask. I just need you to come to Skyhaven and get me out of here, fast.” You spoke hastily, you might have sounded desperate, but right now you don’t care.
“You sound weird, kitten. Are you alright?”
Trust him to take notice. “Please, Sylus. I can’t get out of here and I’m….” You take a deep breath, tears threatening to spill. “I’m scared.”
His answer was instant. “I’m coming, sweetie. Don’t worry, I’ll get you out in no time.”
It’s like a weight is lifted off your shoulders, your heart is lighter and a smile graces your lips. “Thank you. Please hurry Sylus, I don’t like it here.”
“I can tell, sweetie. I’ll destroy everything if it means getting you out.”
“Maybe don’t go that far, there are innocent people here.”
“The ones that hold you against your will are nowhere near innocent.”
You grimace as you think about Caleb, a small piece of you feeling guilty for this, but you needed to get out of here, and if that meant hurting Caleb to escape…then so be it.
Looking at the time, you realise you’ve been left on your own for a while, and Calen would be due back soon. The last thing you wanted was for him to find you like this. “I have to go now, but I’ll see you later?”
“As soon as possible, sweetie. I’ve been making arrangements since you first said you needed my help.”
You end the call quickly and stash within your period products, you knew that Caleb never came in your bathroom, but just in case he changed his mind, at least you knew he wouldn’t search through them.
But now your body is full of nerves, you can’t believe you managed to get through to Sylus, even more so that he’s coming to get you. You just have to wait and keep playing Caleb’s game till he comes, which he assured you will be as soon as possible. In Sylus’ language, that could be within a few minutes to an hour. You hope it’s the first option, but you were determined to wait if that’s what it took.
Before leaving the bathroom you remind yourself to go back to your usual personality that Caleb likes, if he see’s any of your happiness he’ll question it, and you don’t know how long you can lie and fake it for.
So you lower your excitement, lose your smile and take a few deep breaths to calm your beating heart. Once your assured that you’ve gone back to the obedience look, you open the bathroom door -
“Have a nice phone call, Pip-squeak?”

Yes! I would like to add
Buy merch directly from the artist, or better yet, DIY.
If you can, help your local animal shelter. They usually need various different types of help, you could adopt a pet, be a foster home, donate food or money, participate on the activities they do to get resources, etc.
Learn to make your own cleaning products. There’s lots of options on the internet, they are usually really cheap + nontoxic and helps reduce your plastic consumption.
Wear less makeup, specially foundation/non-artistic makeup. Skin texture is punk af. I think my dark circles give me attitude. Acne scars, redness, discoloration, all of those are normal. In a world were perfection is demanded, wear your skin proudly.
Care less about your appearance. Life is too short to worry about your color season, your essence, your face type. Wear whatever makes you happy and invest that energy into learning something new!
Use the public transport. This is not always factible, but whenever you can, prefer it over Uber or your car (if you have one). It’s usually cheaper, you don’t have to worry about parking, contaminates less, you can drink and don’t worry about driving.
Travel less. I don’t mean to say you shouldn’t go on vacation, but ideally fly less. Instead, prioritize going to places where you can get by bus, go to towns close-by, get to know your city. Visit your parks, go trekking to nearby routes, go to every lake and river you can find, and please always leave the place cleaner than it was before. So many people goes to other countries to see sights that could have been found inside their own communities! By this I’m not saying you shouldn’t go out to see the world, but that you can also get new experiences without traveling half the planet.
25 ways to be a little more punk in 2025
Cut fast fashion - buy used, learn to mend and/or make your own clothes, buy fewer clothes less often so you can save up for ethically made quality
Cancel subscriptions - relearn how to pirate media, spend $10/month buying a digital album from a small artist instead of on Spotify, stream on free services since the paid ones make you watch ads anyway
Green your community - there's lots of ways to do this, like seedbombing or joining a community garden or organizing neighborhood trash pickups
Be kind - stop to give directions, check on stopped cars, smile at kids, let people cut you in line, offer to get stuff off the high shelf, hold the door, ask people if they're okay
Intervene - learn bystander intervention techniques and be prepared to use them, even if it feels awkward
Get closer to your food - grow it yourself, can and preserve it, buy from a farmstand, learn where it's from, go fishing, make it from scratch, learn a new ingredient
Use opensource software - try LibreOffice, try Reaper, learn Linux, use a free Photoshop clone. The next time an app tries to force you to pay, look to see if there's an opensource alternative
Make less trash - start a compost, be mindful of packaging, find another use for that plastic, make it a challenge for yourself!
Get involved in local politics - show up at meetings for city council, the zoning commission, the park district, school boards; fight the NIMBYs that always show up and force them to focus on the things impacting the most vulnerable folks in your community
DIY > fashion - shake off the obsession with pristine presentation that you've been taught! Cut your own hair, use homemade cosmetics, exchange mani/pedis with friends, make your own jewelry, duct tape those broken headphones!
Ditch Google - Chromium browsers (which is almost all of them) are now bloated spyware, and Google search sucks now, so why not finally make the jump to Firefox and another search like DuckDuckGo? Or put the Wikipedia app on your phone and look things up there?
Forage - learn about local edible plants and how to safely and sustainably harvest them or go find fruit trees and such accessible to the public.
Volunteer - every week tutoring at the library or once a month at the humane society or twice a year serving food at the soup kitchen, you can find something that matches your availability
Help your neighbors - which means you have to meet them first and find out how you can help (including your unhoused neighbors), like elderly or disabled folks that might need help with yardwork or who that escape artist dog belongs to or whether the police have been hassling people sleeping rough
Fix stuff - the next time something breaks (a small appliance, an electronic, a piece of furniture, etc.), see if you can figure out what's wrong with it, if there are tutorials on fixing it, or if you can order a replacement part from the manufacturer instead of trashing the whole thing
Mix up your transit - find out what's walkable, try biking instead of driving, try public transit and complain to the city if it sucks, take a train instead of a plane, start a carpool at work
Engage in the arts - go see a local play, check out an art gallery or a small museum, buy art from the farmer's market
Go to the library - to check out a book or a movie or a CD, to use the computers or the printer, to find out if they have other weird rentals like a seed library or luggage, to use meeting space, to file your taxes, to take a class, to ask question
Listen local - see what's happening at local music venues or other events where local musicians will be performing, stop for buskers, find a favorite artist, and support them
Buy local - it's less convenient than online shopping or going to a big box store that sells everything, but try buying what you can from small local shops in your area
Become unmarketable - there are a lot of ways you can disrupt your online marketing surveillance, including buying less, using decoy emails, deleting or removing permissions from apps that spy on you, checking your privacy settings, not clicking advertising links, and...
Use cash - go to the bank and take out cash instead of using your credit card or e-payment for everything! It's better on small businesses and it's untraceable
Give what you can - as capitalism churns on, normal shmucks have less and less, so think about what you can give (time, money, skills, space, stuff) and how it will make the most impact
Talk about wages - with your coworkers, with your friends, while unionizing! Stop thinking about wages as a measure of your worth and talk about whether or not the bosses are paying fairly for the labor they receive
Think about wealthflow - there are a thousand little mechanisms that corporations and billionaires use to capture wealth from the lower class: fees for transactions, interest, vendor platforms, subscriptions, and more. Start thinking about where your money goes, how and where it's getting captured and removed from our class, and where you have the ability to cut off the flow and pass cash directly to your fellow working class people

how the batboys sleep ♡
Dick moves around a lot, he might fall asleep next to you, but he’ll wake up on the opposite end of the bed, limbs tangled with yours. He also runs warm so if you’re sleeping together and ever feel cold, don’t worry! Your personal heater is right beside you. Dick owns bunches of pillows and fluffy, warm blankets and is very willing to share. He’s a very big cuddler, wrapping his arms and legs around you even if you’re both sweating in the summer heat.
Sometimes Haley will join too. She’ll butt her way in between the two of you for maximum comfort.
Tim sleeps late at night. It’s nearly 3 am before he’s in bed. Tim isn’t a huge cuddler but will try to be touching you anyways, wether it’s a hand on you’re waist or his hands in you’re hair. Tim runs pretty cold, so he’ll hog the blankets and stay close to you for maximum warmth! He snores sometimes, very tiny snores though. He’s also a massive drooler, he’ll drool all over his pillow and yours if he can.
Jason likes to spoon, most nights he big spoons but there’s those nights where he just needs you to hold him. I feel like Jason could run either really cold or really warm. Jason snores like a chainsaw, it’s loud and obnoxious but you’ll get used to it. His loud snoring almost becomes a sort of white noise machine for you. Jason has one stuffed animal; a wonder woman build-a-bear. It means so much to him and it will always find its way in bed with you.
Sorry this took so long to publish, I had writers block! If you have any requests or ideas for me, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!
ask box is always open. ♡

Deuce, Romantic, "Again/I wanna be your lover, I don't wanna be your friend" by Noah Cyrus.
"I wanna be your lover" || Deuce Spade
𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐲 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞'𝐬 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭
𝐒𝐨𝐧𝐠: Again by Noah Cyrus
𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭: 730
𝐓𝐚𝐠𝐬: Mutual Pining, Friends to lovers
Deuce is your best friend. He always has been. Through thick and thin, through the chaos of life, through every scuffle, every test, every late-night cram session—he’s been there. Steadfast, reliable, a comforting constant in your life.
And maybe that’s what terrifies you the most.
Because if he’s always been there, what happens if you break this? If you take a step too far, cross that fragile boundary, and realize you were better off as friends? What if you ruin the best thing you have?
But Deuce—Deuce loves you. He doesn’t just like you, doesn’t just think you’re fun to be around. No, he loves you in that stupidly obvious way that makes Ace roll his eyes, in that devoted, borderline puppy-eyed way that makes Riddle sigh in exasperation.
He doesn’t say it, but he doesn’t have to.
It’s in the way he always walks on the outer side of the sidewalk, subtly shielding you from passing vehicles.
It’s in the way he keeps extra snacks in his bag, always offering them to you first, even if it means going hungry himself. It’s in the way he watches you—like you’re something too precious for this world, something he’s terrified of losing.
But you’re scared. So you pretend you don’t see it.
One evening, you’re sitting outside, eating snacks on the dorm steps. The sun is dipping beneath the horizon, the sky painted in streaks of orange and lilac. It’s peaceful, the kind of quiet that settles between two people who have known each other forever.
Deuce is sitting close, his knee bumping against yours. He’s laughing at something you said, eyes crinkled, dimples showing, and it’s so easy. This has always been easy.
You think about how much you love him—about how warm he makes you feel, about how you never feel lonely when he’s around. And that terrifies you more than anything.
So you look away.
And then, as if he’s been holding it back for years, Deuce speaks. His voice is quiet, hesitant, but firm.
"I wanna be your lover. I don’t wanna be just your friend."
Your breath catches.
You turn to him, wide-eyed, unsure if you heard correctly. But the way he looks at you—raw, vulnerable, so painfully honest—leaves no room for misinterpretation.
"Deuce—"
"I mean it." His hands curl into fists, his heart beating out of his chest. "I—I don’t want to just be the guy you call when you need help, or the guy who’s always there, waiting in the background. I love being your friend, but I want more than that. I need more than that."
You’re frozen.
Because you do love him. You love him so much it scares you. But what if you mess this up? What if you say yes, and it ruins everything? What if—
"Please," he says, voice barely above a whisper. "Just tell me if there’s a chance. I don’t need anything else—just tell me if there’s a chance."
You stare at him.
And suddenly, all the fear, all the uncertainty, all the worries screaming in your head—none of them matter.
Because this is Deuce.
Your Deuce.
The boy who has been by your side since day one. The boy who holds his heart in his hands, offering it to you without hesitation, without expectation—just hoping you’ll take it.
You don’t answer. Not with words.
Instead, you reach forward, cupping his face with trembling hands, and pull him in.
His breath hitches, but he doesn’t hesitate. The moment your lips meet, he melts—like he’s been waiting for this, dreaming of this, for so long.
And maybe you have been, too.
His hands find yours , pulling you closer, holding you like you might disappear. You feel his heart pounding against yours, fast and desperate, and you realize—he’s just as scared as you are.
But he still took the leap.
So maybe you can, too.
When you finally pull away, he looks at you like you just handed him the world.
"You—" He swallows, breathless. "You mean it?"
You smile, cheeks burning. "I wanna hear you say it again."
His eyes widen—then he grins, so purely happy that it makes your chest ache.
"I love you."
And you know—this is it.
This is home.
And maybe, just maybe, you’ll be hearing him say it again, and again, and again, for the rest of your life.

Joel Miller x Reader Just Coffee II
part two to this fic
Summary: Joel picks you up after a long day, taking you somewhere small and familiar, where conversation flows as easily as the wine. As the night winds down and Joel insists on driving you home, neither of you are ready to say goodbye quite yet.
warnings: some plot mostly smut 18+ MDNI
notes: this fic takes place in fantasy land where pinv doesn't end up in pregnancy ok thank you have a nice day. wrap it up in real life ok? im obsessed with this pre-outbreak Joel. I feel like I read & edited this til my eyes were bleeding, please lmk if you find mistakes
The evening rush had just died down when Joel walked through the door of the coffee shop again that day, his presence filling the small space. It felt easier, more relaxed now that he’d gotten used to coming around more.
You glanced up from wiping down the counters, already feeling the exhaustion from a long shift settling into your bones.
“I thought we were meeting later?” you asked, arching a brow as you tossed the rag over your shoulder.
Joel leaned his hip against the counter, arms crossed, his hazel eyes flicking over you—messy apron, sleeves pushed up, hair slightly frizzed from the long day.
“Figured I’d pick you up,” he said, ever casual. “Walk you out.”
You let out a small groan, rubbing your hands over your face. “But I smell like coffee and milk and—” you sniffed your sleeve dramatically, “—probably cleaning supplies. Real cute first date material.”
Joel smirked, one hand rubbing along his jaw. “Well, I smell like sweat and sawdust, so maybe it’ll cancel out.”
You snorted. “If you say so,”
He shrugged. “Guess we’ll just have to suffer through it together.”
That made you smile, warmth creeping up your neck despite yourself.
“Don’t worry,” he added, his voice dipping a little softer. “Second date, I’ll take you somewhere fancy. But tonight, I got somewhere I think you’ll like,”
You swallowed, your heart giving a little unexpected flutter. A second date. Meaning he had plans on seeing you way more than just for one night. And damn did you like the sound of that.
“Fine,” you sighed, pretending to be more put out than you actually were as you untied your apron. “But if I smell like an espresso machine all night, that’s on you,.”
Joel just chuckled, stepping back to let you close up.
You expected him to take you to some hole-in-the-wall diner or maybe just grab a quick bite somewhere. But instead, he walked with you down the quieter streets of the small downtown, until he stopped next to a small, tucked-away Italian restaurant with a hand-painted sign and a cozy glow spilling from the windows.
It wasn’t flashy, wasn’t trying too hard—it was the kind of place people probably came to for years, passing it down like a family secret.
“You ever been here?” he asked as he held the door open.
You shook your head. “Didn’t even know it existed.”
The second you stepped inside, warmth wrapped around you—the scent of garlic and tomatoes simmering low, fresh bread baking, the low hum of conversation filling the intimate space. String lights hung loosely across the ceiling, casting a soft golden glow over the rustic wooden tables. A candle flickered at every one, pooling small halos of light between plates of pasta and glasses of deep red wine.
“You eat here a lot?” you asked him as he stepped in behind you.
Joel shook his head. “Did some work on the building a few years back. Owners fed me a few times.” He shrugged, like it was nothing. “Keep comin’ back when I can.”
As if on cue, an older man in a white apron emerged from the kitchen, his eyes lighting up as soon as he saw Joel. He walked straight up to him, clapping him on the shoulder with a familiarity that made your brows lift.
“Miller!” the man greeted, grinning wide. He rattled something off in rapid, affectionate Italian, gesturing around the restaurant. Joel huffed out a low laugh, shaking his head.
“Good to see you too, Sal,” Joel said.
Sal patted his shoulder again, his thick fingers pressing into the fabric of Joel’s shirt like he was testing its strength. "Still workin’ with that stronzo fratellino, eh?"
Joel chuckled. “You bet.”
Sal scoffed, shaking his head. “Tsk. He was never as good with his hands as you.” He turned to you with a wink. “My best man here, best muratore in town! Fixed this place up when the siding was fallin’ off my dannata walls! Quick, clean—like an artista, eh?”
Sal laughed when Joel only shook his head, a red flush creeping up his face as he looked at you apologetically.
"Sit, sit! Please, eat whatever you like! I get you wine—" Sal finally let go of Joel, waving over the hostess with an urgency like he was hosting royalty.
“You’re quite the celebrity, Joel,” you teased, glancing up at him as the two of you followed behind to your table.
Joel sighed, shaking his head as he rubbed the back of his neck, “I promise I didn’t bring you here for that—the food’s just real good,”
“Uh-huh,” you smirked, amused, as the hostess stopped at a cozy table by the window.
Sal came back over with a bottle of wine, winking at you before heading back toward the kitchen. “Enjoy dinner, eh?”
You watched him go, then turned back to Joel, arching a brow. “So, you’re with your hands, huh?” remembering what the man said a few minutes ago.
Joel picked up the menu and hid his face. “Don’t start.”
You bit your lip, amused, and looked down at your own menu.
The dinner itself was nice.
The kind of nice that snuck up on you, unfolding in a way that felt natural, easy, like you’d done this a dozen times before.
Joel was quiet, soft spoken, but asked a lot of questions. Not just the polite kind, but ones with weight, ones that made you pause before answering. He wanted to know how you got into coffee—if it was something you always loved, or if it just happened. What made you decide to open your own shop instead of working somewhere else. If you liked being your own boss, if it was worth the stress.
And he listened, really listened, nodding as you spoke, his hazel eyes steady on you. Every now and then, he’d ask something that made you stop and think, something no one had ever really asked before.
“You ever picture yourself doin’ anything else?” he asked at one point, twirling the stem of his wine glass between two fingers.
You blinked, caught off guard. “I don’t know,” you admitted. “I guess I never thought about it. The shop is mine. My whole world’s kind of wrapped up in it.”
Joel hummed, watching you carefully. “But it makes you happy.” It wasn’t quite a question, but more an observation.
“Yeah, yeah it does.” you answered with a smile, then tilted your head. “What about you? Do you like what you do?”
Joel exhaled through his nose, thinking. “Don’t know if anyone likes workin’,” he admitted, then nodded a thanks to the waiter as he set down your meals. “But can’t think of anythin’ else I’d be doin’. Ain’t the type to be sittin’ in a stuffy cubicle and all.”
You smirked, picking up your fork. “Oh, I don’t know… I think you’d look real nice in a suit and tie.”
Joel let out a quiet huff, shaking his head as he cut into his food. “Yeah? And what, you see me sittin’ at some fancy desk, makin’ phone calls all day?”
“I dunno,” you teased, shrugging. “Something about you in a tie just works for me.”
Joel shot you a look, amused, before taking a sip of his drink. “Maybe I’ll show up to your shop one day in one, just to surprise ya,”
“Oh, that’ll be the day,” you giggle.
The rest of dinner went by too quickly for your liking.
Joel told you about the different jobs he’d done over the years—how he liked working with his hands, how there was something satisfying about building something solid, something that would last. There was a quiet kind of pride in his voice, nothing boastful, just a man who knew the value of hard work, of making something real.
In return, you traded stories about your most memorable customers—the regulars, the weird orders like the ones who asked for 50 different flavors in one iced coffee. Joel countered with tales of difficult clients, stubborn contractors, and one particularly bad job where a homeowner swore they knew more about construction than he did.
And when Joel chuckled at a particularly funny story, his eyes crinkling slightly at the corners, you began to realize—God, you liked seeing him like this. Relaxed. Comfortable. Like maybe, just maybe, he liked being here with you, too.
And before you knew it, the waiter was coming by with the check, and the night was ending far sooner than you wanted.
The evening air was warm as you stepped out of the restaurant, your cheeks still flushed from the wine and the lingering glow of good company. Sal had insisted on treating you both with large helpings of his homemade tiramisu—claiming you couldn’t leave until you were properly fed.
Joel had muttered something about not needing dessert, but you’d watched him polish off his plate without complaint.
Outside, the street was quiet, the warm light of the restaurant spilling out onto the sidewalk as the door swung shut behind you.
“That man is dangerous,” you groaned, placing a hand over your stomach. “I don’t think I’ve ever eaten so much in my life.”
Joel huffed out a small laugh, slipping his hands into his pockets. “Could’ve said no.”
You scoffed. “And risk offending him? No way. I’d be blacklisted for life.”
Joel smirked, shaking his head before glancing around. “Where’s your car?”
You blinked up at him. “Oh, I walked.”
Joel’s brows pulled together. “You walk to work?”
“I live close by,” you shrugged.
Joel exhaled sharply, already looking like he was making up his mind, “Let me drive you—”
“Oh, no, it’s really okay—”
“I insist,” he said, and before you could argue, his hand found the small of your back.
Heat shot through you, electric despite how warm and gentle his palm was. You exhaled, smiling, and knew there was no point in arguing. Not when he was looking at you like that—stern, certain in a caring sort of way. So you didn’t fight it.
He walked beside you, his stride slow, deliberate. The night air was perfect with summer warmth and a cooling breeze, the quiet hum of the city stretching out around you, but you couldn't help the way that everything else had narrowed down to him—the sound of his boots against the pavement, the occasional brush of his hand near yours, close enough to feel the warmth but not quite touching.
He made a little conversation, but he was quieter now, more thoughtful. He asked about your family, where they were, if they ever came to visit. If you had much of a life outside of the shop or if it kept you too busy.
You answered easily, finding that with him, it was just...easy.
Joel didn’t fill the silence just to talk—he let it linger, let you breathe, let it settle into something comfortable, something that felt like it had always been there.
By the time you reached his truck, you realized just how much you liked that about him. And how much you liked him.
Joel reached for the handle, about to open the door for you, ever the gentleman.
But then he hesitated. His fingers curled around the handle, but he didn’t pull. Instead, he exhaled, slow and measured, his jaw ticking as he turned to look at you.
His gaze flickered—your eyes, your mouth, then back again—just in time for you to feel it, that slow-building heat simmering between you.
“Screw it,” he muttered.
And then his hands were on you.
One at your waist, the other coming up to cradle your jaw, his rough thumb sweeping over your cheek as he pulled you into him, his lips crashing into yours with the kind of weight that sent your heart slamming into your ribs.
The breath hitched in your throat, and for a second—just a second—you forgot how to do anything but feel.
It was slow but heavy and intentional, like he’d spent all night trying to fight the urge and finally gave in. He kissed like a man who knew exactly what he wanted. It was steady, claiming, not the kind of frantic desperation you’d expect from someone who couldn’t hold back.
No, Joel took his damn time.
His lips parted against yours, deepening the kiss, pulling you further into him. His hand slipped from your jaw, fingers threading into your hair, holding you exactly where he wanted as he kissed you again, his tongue venturing past your lips, sliding along yours in a way that made you turn molten.
You gasped softly, pressing closer, your hands gripping the front of his shirt, needing something to hold onto because God—he was overwhelming in the best way.
Joel groaned low in his throat, like he’d finally let himself indulge, like this was something he’d been starving for. His grip on your waist tightened, guiding you until your back hit the truck, his body bracketing yours against the cool metal, broad and solid and so damn warm.
“You gonna open the door or what?” you teased breathlessly, between kisses, your lips brushing against his.
Joel huffed, his nose dragging along your cheek. “You in some kinda hurry?” Joel’s lips ghosted along your jaw, trailing down the column of your throat, pressing slow, lingering kisses against your skin, each one making you melt further into him.
You let out a soft, breathy sigh, and Joel chuckled low against your neck, his breath hot. “Didn’t answer my question.”
You barely remembered what he asked. Your brain was fogged, drowning in the way he felt against you, the way his body crowded yours against the truck, solid and warm.
“No,” you managed, voice breathless. “No hurry.”
“Good to hear,” Joel muttered.
And then, in one fluid motion, he scooted you over, swung the door open, and hooked an arm around your waist—lifting you effortlessly, like you weighed nothing. A startled gasp left your lips as he set you down onto the worn leather seat of his truck before you could even process the shift.
You barely had a second to catch your breath before Joel climbed in after you, the door shutting with a heavy thunk, sealing you both inside. The space between you was nonexistent—all heat, all him, his presence pressing into you, crowding you in the best way.
You thanked whatever lucky stars you had that it was dark, that Joel’s truck had tinted windows, because none of it would’ve stopped you anyway. Not when you were already leaning back into him, your fingers trailing up, brushing over the scruff along his jaw.
Joel’s hand slid up your thigh, fingers curling, anchoring himself as he kissed you deeper, tilting his head to taste you fully. His other hand found your jaw, rough fingertips dragging over your skin, tilting your face toward him like he couldn’t stand even an inch of space between you.
You sighed against his mouth, pressing closer, nails scratching lightly against the denim of his jeans. He groaned, low and deep, swallowing the sound. Then, suddenly, his grip shifted, strong hands wrapping around your waist as he pulled you forward until you were straddling his lap.
A breath hitched in your throat, hands bracing against his broad chest as your knees pressed into the seat on either side of him. The new position had you flush against him, heat radiating between you, the space inside the truck growing impossibly small.
Joel’s eyes flickered up to yours, searching, giving you a chance to stop this before it went any further.
But you didn’t want to stop. So you kissed him again. Deeper. Hungrier.
Joel groaned, his hands sliding up your thighs, rough palms trailing over denim now, gripping just enough to make your breath catch. His mouth was hot, insistent, kissing you like he was trying to memorize the shape of your lips, the taste of you, the way you sighed his name when he tilted his head to deepen it.
“I don’t usually—” you began, panting as you broke from the kiss for just a moment, lips still brushing his. “I don’t usually do this on a first date, just so you know.”
“Me neither,” Joel muttered quickly, voice rough, his breath warm against your skin. His fingers laced through your hair, tangling at the base of your neck as he pulled you closer, like the space between you was too much to bear.
His other hand trailed down, squeezing at your waist before gripping the waistband of your jeans. His fingers dipped just under the fabric, teasing, sending a shiver up your spine.
“Think you can get these off for me, sweetheart?” he rasped, his voice thick with want.
Your breath caught, “H-here?”
Joel huffed, smirking just a little, his thumb brushing back and forth over the waistband, slow and teasing. “Ain’t nobody around. Just us.” His eyes flicked up to meet yours, steady, certain. “Unless you really wanna stop.”
He was giving you another chance to pull away, to tell him no, and you knew if you said the word, he’d back off immediately.
But hell no. You shook your head, breathless. “No. No stopping.”
Joel’s smirk deepened, approval flashing in his darkened gaze. “That’s my girl.”
Your fingers trembled as you reached for the button of your jeans, fumbling slightly. Joel exhaled a soft chuckle, amused but patient, pressing another slow, open-mouthed kiss to your throat as his hands ran up and down your thighs, steadying you.
You finally got the zipper down, lifting your hips slightly as you started pushing them down, but Joel’s hands took over, firm and unhurried, hooking his fingers under the waistband and dragging them down your legs in one slow, smooth motion.
The second the denim was gone, his hands ran back up your bare thighs, gripping at the flesh of your ass, his gaze locked on you like he needed to commit this to memory.
“Jesus Christ,” Joel muttered, his voice wrecked, pupils blown wide as he devoured you with his eyes. “Knew you had a great ass—couldn’t stop starin’ at it this mornin’.”
A flush spread through your body at his words, pooling low in your belly, but you could barely focus, too wrapped up in him, in the way he felt beneath you. Despite his claim earlier that he smelled like sweat and sawdust, you thought he smelled addicting—pure masculine heat, sweat and musk, with the faintest hint of whatever cologne or deodorant still clung to his skin. It was him, and it made you dizzy.
Heat curled low in your belly, especially when he tugged you down against him, pressing you right where you needed him, letting you feel all of him—hard, thick, pressing into the thin barrier of your panties.
A quiet moan slipped from your lips, and that sound did something to him.
“Oh, you make the sweetest little noises, baby,” he groaned, his grip tightening as he rocked you against him, his hands guiding your hips so you could feel just how much he wanted you.
His lips found your neck again, kissing, nipping, working their way lower, and you whimpered when they reached your shoulder, his fingers toying with the hem of your top.
“Think I wanna see more of you,” Joel muttered, voice thick and rough like gravel. His hands dragged up your sides, thumbs skimming the curve of your ribs. “Lift your arms for me.”
And you did—because you wanted more too. Needed it.
Joel peeled your top off slowly, taking his time, hissing when your bare skin was revealed beneath the dim light filtering through the truck’s fogged windows. His hands ghosted over you, calloused fingertips brushing along your collarbone, down to the tops of your breasts, his eyes dark as they devoured you.
“Fuckin’ gorgeous,” he muttered, mostly to himself, his rough fingers slipping beneath the band of your bra, teasing. You squirmed in his lap, eager, desperate for something, arching into his touch.
Joel huffed a quiet chuckle, his lips curling as his fingers came up to pull the cups of your bra down and began palming your breasts in both hands, squeezing just enough to make you gasp.
“That feel good, baby?” he rasped, watching your reaction as his thumbs brushed over your nipples, circling, teasing.
“Y-yeah,” you breathed, fingers digging into his shoulders.
Joel smirked, then pinched lightly, rolling the sensitive flesh between his fingers. You moaned, head tipping back, arching into his hands.
“That’s it,” he murmured, leaning in, dragging his lips down the exposed column of your throat, over your collarbone. Then he licked along the swell of your breast before finally closing his mouth over your nipple, sucking slow and deep.
You gasped, gripping his hair, your hips instinctively grinding down against him. The friction sent a rush of heat pooling low in your belly, the hard line of him pressing right against you.
Joel groaned against your skin, releasing your nipple with a wet pop before switching to the other, giving it the same slow, torturous attention.
“Joel,” you whimpered, rolling your hips against him again, the need in you growing unbearable.
He hummed, his hands sliding down, gripping your ass, grinding you down harder against him, “You’re so needy, baby,” he muttered, his lips ghosting along your jaw. “Bet you’re already drippin’ for me, huh?”
You nodded frantically, panting, whimpering, grinding against him, desperate for more.
Joel’s hand slipped between you, his fingers slipping to cup your covered mound, feeling the dampness that had seeped through the fabric. He sucked in air through his teeth as his fingers pressed firmly, rubbing slow, teasing circles. “You’re fuckin’ soaked, baby. This all for me?” he teased, “Huh?”
You gasped when his fingers would press and sometimes skim along your bare skin, running along the lace, teasing, pressing just enough to make your thighs shake.
“Please,” you breathed, writhing against him, desperate for more.
Joel hummed approvingly, slipping beneath the fabric, his fingers spreading through your slick folds, teasing your clit before dipping lower, barely pushing inside.
“Look at you,” he muttered, voice rough. “Takin’ my fingers so easy.”
You moaned, body shuddering as he continued to rub gentle circles around your clit before finally pushing two fingers inside, stretching you just enough to make your breath catch in your lungs. Joel groaned, watching you, drinking in every sound, every gasp, his fingers working slow and deep, curling just right to have your whole body shaking.
Your hips rocked into his hand, grinding against the heel of his palm, pleasure building fast, coiling tight in your belly. He smirked, his thumb pressing against your clit, rubbing tight, slow circles that had your legs trembling around his hips.
“You gonna come for me, already, sweetheart?” he murmured, his breath hot against your ear. “Come on my fingers before I fuck you?”
You gasped, “Yes, yes–” your fingers digging into his shoulders, your body locking up as the coil snapped in your belly, pleasure ripping through you in waves as you cried out, coming hard against his hand.
Joel groaned, his head falling forward to kiss your sweaty skin, feeling the way you pulsed around his fingers, his cock twitching hard beneath you.
“That’s my girl,” Joel muttered, his voice wrecked as he slowly pulled his fingers from you, slick and shining in the dim light. You stopped breathing as he brought them to his mouth, his eyes locked on yours, watching your reaction as he licked them clean, his tongue dragging slow over his fingers. “So fuckin’ sweet,” he murmured, shaking his head slightly, like he was ruined by the taste of you.
Once he licked his fingers clean, he brought them to your lips and rasped, “Open,”
A wicked smile crossed your lips as you parted them obediently, letting him slide his fingers onto your tongue. Joel groaned low in his throat, watching you intently, his pupils blown wide as your lips closed around his digits.
You didn’t just take them—you sucked, hollowing your cheeks, your tongue teasing along his fingertips, slow and deliberate.
Joel’s smirk fell as his whole body tensed beneath you, muscles going taut as his free hand dug into your hip, hard, like he was barely hanging on. A low, guttural groan tore from his throat, and suddenly, his slick fingers left your mouth, his hand moving to your throat—firm but careful—pulling you down to him, kissing you again. It was hungry, needy, open and wet, all tongue and heat, like he had to taste you again, like the last few minutes of teasing had finally broken something in him.
You moaned against his mouth, shifting in his lap, feeling the thick, solid length of him pressing right where you needed it most. Joel hissed at the friction, his fingers tightening on your waist. Then his hands moved, gripping your hips, holding you there as he worked open his belt, the soft clink of metal making your stomach tighten. The zipper came next, slow and deliberate, the sound loud in the thick silence between you. You watched as he freed himself, his thick cock pressing hot and heavy against your inner thigh.
Joel’s eyes flicked up to yours, dark and dangerous, his jaw tight with restraint, “Still want this baby?”
“Yes,” you breathed, kissing his face, his neck, nipping and biting at his throat as his hands worked himself. You lifted yourself up to give him better access to you. “Want you so badly, Joel.”
He grunted at the sound of his name on your lips, so low and wrecked and needy for him. Reaching down, he hooked his fingers beneath the soaked fabric of your panties, dragging them to the side. His other hand gripped his cock, dragging the tip through your slick pussy, teasing, pressing just enough to make you whimper.
“Joel—”
“I know, baby,” he murmured, voice thick with restraint, positioning himself right at your entrance. “Go on. Take what you need.”
You didn’t hesitate, sinking down onto him slowly, gasping as he stretched you, filling you inch by inch until he was seated deep inside you.
Joel’s head fell back against the headrest, his hands flying to your hips, his fingers digging into the flesh there.
“Jesus fuck,” he gritted out, his thighs tensing beneath you as he held himself still. “You’re—fuck, baby, you’re squeezin’ me so goddamn tight,"
You moaned, feeling every inch of him pulsing inside you, stretching you in the most delicious way. You barely had a chance to catch your breath before he rocked his hips up into you, and your head snapped up at the force, making you look up just in time to see a familiar face out the back window.
“Oh shit—Tommy.”
Joel’s entire body went rigid, “Please do not tell me you just—“
“No—Tommy,” you hissed, ducking down as far as you could, but it only added more friction, making Joel’s cock pulse inside you.
He grunted sharply, his fingers digging in harder to steady you, his jaw clenched like he was trying so hard not to react to the way you just squeezed around him.
Then, a truck door slammed shut.
“Hey, ain’t this Joel’s?” Tommy’s voice rang out, just outside, “Thought he left hours ago,”
Joel’s eyes snapped open, wild and alert. In an instant, his arm shot out, slamming the lock button with a sharp click.
Your heart raced, your hands scrambling to tug your shirt back over your head as Joel shifted beneath you, one hand still firm on your waist, the other reaching toward the door controls.
“Is he in there?” Tommy muttered to himself. The sound of boots crunching against gravel got closer.
Joel rolled down the window—but only a few inches, just enough for Tommy to see his face and nothing else.
Joel’s expression was thunderous. “The fuck do you want?”
Tommy’s brows raised. “Damn, hello to you too,” he muttered, squinting between the tinted glass. “I been callin’ you. You never got back to the landscaper—”
Tommy blinked. His brows lifted slightly.
“Well, hell,” he said, smirking. “That the coffee shop girl?”
You, still catching your breath, gave a little nod, “Hey Tommy,”
Tommy grinned. “Joel never shuts up about your coffee.”
Joel groaned, rubbing a hand over his face. “Jesus Christ.”
Tommy’s smirk widened, shifting his weight onto one hip, arms crossed over his chest. “Well, you guys comin’ or what? Bout to head down to Jameson’s Bar down the street with some of the guys.”
The good thing was—from Tommy’s point of view—it probably just looked like a hot and heavy makeout session in the truck. He couldn’t see that Joel was, in fact, inside you. Your eyes flicked up to Joel’s face, still locked in frustration, his jaw clenched, his breathing ragged. And just because you could, just because you had to—you rocked your hips just a little. Joel choked on his own breath, his whole body seizing, his hands flying to your waist in warning. His eyes darted to you in a look that might kill you if you didn’t feel the betraying feeling of his cock twitch inside your cunt.
You bit your lip, eyes flicking down at Joel, voice sweet as honey, “Was just about to.”
Joel’s eyes flashed, his fingers pinching your ass hard in retaliation. You yelped, causing your body to twist up and into him, and he had to swallow his groan.
Then, suddenly, Tommy’s expression shifted.
His eyes flicked between the both of you—Joel looking wrecked, breath uneven, a little too flushed for the cool evening breeze, and you, doing your best to keep your face neutral while subtly adjusting yourself in his lap.
Tommy’s head tilted. His mouth parted.
And then, slowly, a knowing smirk crept onto his face.
“No way,” he breathed, realization dawning. “You are not—”
“Tommy—” Joel ground out, voice low and warning.
But it was too late.
Tommy burst out laughing, doubling over, hands on his knees.
Joel exhaled sharply, hands twitching on your waist, his patience hanging by a thread. “Swear to God—”
You, on the other hand, were trying very, very hard to keep a straight face.
Tommy finally straightened up, wiping at his eyes, still grinning like an idiot. “Man, you gotta be kidding me.”
“Get outta here,” Joel said between his teeth.
Tommy held his hands up in mock surrender, taking a step back from the truck. “Hey, hey, I ain’t judgin’—I just never thought I’d see the day my big brother was gettin’ it on in a goddamn parking lot like a damn teenager.”
Joel groaned, glaring daggers at him. “You done?”
Tommy smirked, but started backing toward his truck. “Yeah, yeah, I’ll leave you two lovebirds alone.” He shot you a wink. “You take care now, darlin’.”
You smiled sweetly. “I will, Tommy.”
Joel huffed sharply, clearly done with this entire situation.
You kept an eye on Tommy as he finally slid into his truck, still shaking his head as he fired up the engine. Before he pulled away, he called out—
“Don’t do nothin’ I wouldn’t do!”
Joel slammed the window up before you could reply.
The second Tommy’s taillights disappeared down the road, Joel let out a long, deep breath, his grip on your waist still iron-tight.
“Jesus fuckin’ Christ,” he muttered, shaking his head.
You giggled, biting your lip, still settled in his lap, still pulsing around him.
Joel’s gaze snapped to you.
“You think this is funny?” he asked, voice thick, dark.
You blinked at him innocently, then, just to test him, you rolled your hips slowly, feeling his cock move deep inside you again. Both of you moaned at the feeling.
“You’re playin’ with fire, sweetheart,” he warned, his voice low, rough.
“Mmm but you love it,” you smiled.
Joel growled, his patience finally snapping. His hands tightened, yanking you down against him, grinding your soaked heat over him slow and deep.
You gasped, your fingers flying to his shoulders, nails digging in as he began to set a rhythm, his hips rocking up to meet yours, filling you over and over again.
“Fuckin' hell, girl,” Joel gritted out as your forehead dropped against his, “You love this, don’t you?”
You could barely breathe, pleasure pooling low and hot, winding tight in your belly, “Y-yes, feels s–s–so good,” you gasped, rolling your hips faster, chasing the high that had been aching inside you since the moment he first touched you.
Joel’s lips crashed into yours, swallowing the moan that tore from your throat as his hips snapped up into you, deep and slow at first, like he wanted you to feel every inch of him. You whimpered, fingers fisting in the shoulders of his shirt, clinging to him as the pleasure started to coil, winding tighter and tighter with every drag of his cock inside you.
“Oh god,” you gasped, barely able to breathe, barely able to think beyond the feel of him filling you, stretching you, hitting the perfect spot over and over.
“That’s it, baby—just like that,” he murmured, his voice rough, his arms wrapping around you as he rocked up to meet you.
You moved with him, rolling your hips, your body seeking more, chasing it, the friction and heat spiraling higher, hotter, pleasure building until it felt like you were seconds from snapping.
Joel must’ve felt it, the way you were trembling, the way your body clenched tighter around him, because his grip on you tightened, guiding you faster, pushing you closer, until—
“Come on now, hunny–you all talk or you really gonna cum?” he murmured against your lips, his voice thick with need. “Let me have it, wanna feel you.”
And that—his words, his voice, the command in it—was what undid you.
A sharp, wrecked moan tore from your lips as the pressure snapped, pleasure crashing over you in waves, your whole body shuddering and twitching as you clenched tight around him, pulsing, shaking, coming undone in his lap.
Joel groaned loudly, his head tipping back against the headrest, his jaw tight, his breath shattering as he thrust up into you, once, twice—
And then he followed, his grip bruising on your body as he buried himself deep, a low, guttural sound tearing from his throat as he came, spilling hot inside you, his whole body locking up before relaxing, spent, wrecked.
The truck fell into silence, save for the sound of your ragged breathing, the sticky heat between you, the feel of his arms still gripping you, like he wasn’t ready to let go just yet.
You let out a soft, breathless laugh, forehead dropping to his shoulder. “Holy shit.”
Joel exhaled sharply, a huffed-out chuckle against your chest. “Yeah.”
You stayed like that for a moment, neither of you moving, just breathing each other in, the moment settling between you.
Finally, Joel ran a slow, warm hand up your spine, his voice still gravelly when he spoke.
“So.” A beat. “We ain’t goin’ to Jameson’s, huh?”
You laughed, shaking your head against his shoulder. “Not a chance.”
Joel smirked, pressing a lazy kiss to your temple.
“Good.”

Rory’s 5th birthday.
“Roo, slow down!” Beth laughed as you ran in front of her, eager to head into the training ground, “Wait for me and Mamma please.” She said as her and Viv grabbed their bags from the car.
“But Mummy it’s my birthday and I need everyone to know!” You huffed, stopping in your tracks. “I’m five and I wan’ show them all my new teddies!”
It was your fifth birthday and since the moment you had woken up, you hadn’t stopped. Beth and Viv had stayed up till late last night and had decorated the living room with balloons and banners. All of your teddies even had their own little party hats on, two spare ones sat beside them for you and Twix.
Viv laughed softly, ruffling your hair as Beth adjusted the strap of her bag. “Don’t worry, Roo. Everyone will love meeting Twix’s new friends.”
You grinned up at her, “They better! Twix new friends are excited!”
As you all made your way into the training centre, the familiar hum of voices and clinking dishes filled the air as you made your way to the canteen. The smell of coffee and bacon made your tummy rumble, but you were too focused on finding Buddy and Monkey to notice.
The moment you spotted them, Buddy sitting at a table colouring with crayons and Monkey scrolling through her phone opposite her, you let out an excited squeal.
“Buddy! Monks!” you yelled, sprinting across the room.
Leah, who was seated beside Buddy, looked up with a grin. “Uh-oh, here comes trouble. Happy Birthday, Roo!”
“Roo!” Buddy squealed, dropping the crayon and practically falling off her chair as she scrambled to get to you.
You collided in a giggly hug, your backpack bumping awkwardly between you. “It’s my birthday!” you announced proudly.
Buddy gasped, her eyes wide. “B’fday? ‘Ou five now?”
You nodded, already unzipping your bag. “Yeah, and I brought my teddies to show you. Look!”
Buddy clapped her hands excitedly, bouncing on the spot as you carefully pulled out Twix and his new friends. “This is Twix, and this is Myle 2 and Sprinkles. They’re new!”
Buddy reached out with chubby hands, grabbing for Sprinkles before you had even finished your sentence. “Me ‘ove Sprinkles! He so soft!” she exclaimed, squishing him to her face.
“Twix says you have to be gentle ‘cus they new!” You told Buddy.
Buddy nodded, still holding Sprinkles by one paw. “Okay, I’ be gentle,” she promised, before suddenly turning to Leah, who was seated next to her. “Mummy! Look, Roo’s bear!”
Leah chuckled, reaching over to ruffle Buddy’s hair. “I see, Bubba. Sprinkles looks very important.”
“Very ‘portant,” Buddy agreed, holding the bear out to Leah for inspection.
Monkey, sitting on the other side of the table, leaned over to watch the scene unfold. “This is serious birthday business,” she teased. “Twix recruiting a squad?”
You nodded firmly, “Twix is the boss. He said they can come watch the match today!”
Buddy gasped again, looking up at Leah. “Dey’ watch football?! Mummy, dey’ watch football!”
Leah grinned, pulling Buddy onto her lap. “Yep, looks like it. And I bet they’ll cheer really loud too, huh, Roo?”
“They’re the loudest,” you said proudly. “but not as loud as me and Buddy!”
Beth and Viv finally caught up, both smiling as they saw Buddy and you deep in conversation about the teddies. “She’s been planning this all morning,” Beth said, setting her bag down.
“You’re very excited about your birthday, huh Roo?” Leah asked you, “Did you get nice presents?”
You nodded enthusiastically, “I got lots of presents! And Mummy and Mamma put party hats on all my teddies. Twix says he’s the boss of the party.”
Before Leah could respond, the canteen doors opened and Steph came in, a grin already on her face. “Alright, where’s the birthday girl?” she called, looking around dramatically.
You practically leapt out of your seat, waving your arms. “I’m here! I’m here!”
“Well, there she is!” Steph said, walking over and crouching down to your level. “Happy birthday, Roo! Five years old, huh? Does that mean you’re a big girl now?”
You nodded, “I’m really big now. And I got new teddies!”
Steph pretended to gasp, glancing at the line of stuffed animals on the table. “Which one’s the boss?”
“Twix!” you said immediately, holding him up. “He’s the oldest, so he’s the boss.”
Steph nodded. “Looks like he’s doing a great job keeping everyone in line. You bringing them to the match later?”
“Yeah, they’re gonna cheer really loud!” you said, your excitement bubbling over.
After a bit more chatting, the rest of the team came in for breakfast, each wishing you a happy birthday. You ended up sitting on Beth’s lap, feeling cosy as she helped you cut your pancakes into bite-sized pieces.
Just as you were finishing the last bite, Katie stood up and got everyone’s attention. “Alright, everyone, we have one last thing to do before we head out for the match,” she said, glancing over at you.
A moment later, one of the kitchen staff walked in, carrying a cake covered in pink frosting and topped with five candles. Your eyes widened as the entire team broke into a loud, cheerful rendition of “Happy Birthday.”
You tucked your face into Beth’s shoulder, suddenly overwhelmed by all the attention. “Mummy,” you whispered, your voice muffled, “it’s so loud.”
Beth rubbed your back gently, smiling. “It’s okay, Roo. Everyone’s just really happy for you.”
As the song ended, the room filled with cheers and clapping. Viv leaned down to whisper in your ear. “Ready to blow out the candles?”
You peeked out from Beth’s shoulder and nodded shyly. Beth helped you stand on her lap so you could reach the cake, your hands gripping her arms tightly for balance.
“Alright, big breath, Roo,” Beth encouraged, her smile wide as everyone leaned in to watch. You took a deep breath and blew, your cheeks puffing out with the effort, but only two of the five candles flickered out.
The team burst out laughing as you frowned in frustration. “They won’t go!” you huffed, trying again with another puff of air, but the stubborn candles stayed lit.
“I’ help ‘ou!” Buddy announced, trying to slide off Leah’s lap.
“Buddy!” Leah laughed, quickly scooping her up. “Let’s let Roo have another go.”
“Okay, Roo,” Viv said, her hands resting lightly on your waist. “Biggest breath you can manage. Ready?”
You nodded, your cheeks turning pink as you gave it your all, but only one more candle went out. You frowned again before giving it another go, this time all of them blowing out.
“You did it, Roo!” Beth said, kissing your cheek as you grinned shyly.
“Twix helped,” you whispered, holding your teddy close.
“Well, Twix is very clever,” Viv said with a chuckle, brushing a stray hair away from your face.
“Good job, Roo!” Leah called, and Buddy clapped her hands, shouting, “Go, Roo!”
“Did you make a wish?” Beth asked as she hugged you tight.
You nodded, hugging Twix. “Mhm, Twix made it with me!” you said softly, and Beth smiled, kissing your cheek.

The scent of something faintly burnt hits you the second you step through the door, and you don’t even flinch. You already know what—or rather, who—you’re about to find.
Sure enough, Rafe is in your kitchen.
He’s standing at the stove, sleeves pushed up, a spatula in one hand and an unimpressed look on his face as he stares down at the pan in front of him. There’s a mess of ingredients scattered across the counter—half a chopped onion, an open bag of shredded cheese, and a carton of eggs suspiciously close to tipping over.
You drop your bag onto the couch, crossing your arms as you watch him. “Should I be worried?”
Rafe glances over his shoulder, like he’s just now noticing you walked in. “You’re late.”
You blink. “I didn’t know I was on a schedule.”
He huffs, turning back to whatever he’s attempting to cook. “I told you I was making dinner.”
You step closer, peering over his shoulder. “Is that what we’re calling this?”
Rafe shoots you a look, but before he can defend himself, a sudden sizzle from the pan makes him flinch. He mutters a curse, reaching for a spatula, but whatever he’s making already looks beyond saving.
You sigh, moving to grab the pan handle. “Move.”
Rafe doesn’t budge. “Excuse me?”
“You heard me. Move.” You nudge him with your hip.
Rafe smirks but steps aside, arms crossing as he watches you take over. “Just so we’re clear, I had it under control.”
You give him a flat look before grabbing the seasoning he clearly forgot to use. “Right. Totally.”
He doesn’t argue, just leans against the counter and watches as you fix the mess he made. He’s close enough that you can feel the warmth of him behind you, close enough that when he reaches over you to grab a piece of cheese, his arm brushes against yours.
You swat his hand away without looking. “Stop it.”
“Stop what?” He grins, doing it again.
You elbow him lightly. “Rafe.”
“Kid.”
You sigh dramatically, focusing back on the food. “You know, just because I gave you a key when we were kids doesn’t mean you can just show up and destroy my kitchen.”
“You gave me that key because you wanted me here.”
You pause for half a second before shaking your head. “I was being nice.”
“You were obsessed with me.”
You roll your eyes, plating the food and handing it to him. “Here. Try it. Learn something.”
Rafe takes a bite without hesitation, and after a moment, he nods approvingly. “Yeah. This is way better than mine.”
“Shocking.”
Rafe nudges you with his elbow, and you nudge him back without thinking.
And as the night settles into quiet conversation and the occasional bickering over who’s doing the dishes, you realize—having Rafe here doesn’t feel like an intrusion.
The kitchen is still a mess, but at least the food is done. You lean against the counter, finishing the last bite of your taco while Rafe lazily chews his, looking far too pleased with himself for someone who nearly burned the place down.
“You’re on dish duty, by the way,” you announce, wiping your hands on a napkin.
Rafe raises a brow. “What?”
“You made the mess, so you clean it.”
He scoffs, shaking his head as he leans back against the counter. “I cooked.”
“You tried to cook,” you correct. “I did all the work.”
Rafe hums like he’s actually considering it, but then, instead of answering, he grabs another taco and takes a slow, obnoxious bite, holding eye contact the entire time.
You narrow your eyes. “That’s not going to work on me.”
“What’s not?” he asks, mouth full.
“You thinking you can just sit there and do nothing while I clean up after you.”
Rafe smirks. “But you love cleaning up after me.”
You grab a dish towel and throw it at his face.
He catches it with ease, laughing as he tosses it onto the counter. “Alright, alright. Relax, kid.” He straightens up, stretching slightly before cracking his knuckles. “I’ll help. But only ‘cause I’m such a good friend.”
“Right,” you deadpan, rolling your eyes.
Still, he doesn’t let you do it alone. He takes his sweet time, rinsing the plates at an annoyingly slow pace while you dry them beside him. Occasionally, he flicks water at you just to be a menace, and you retaliate by bumping your hip into him, making him splash himself instead.
By the time the kitchen is clean, you’re both slightly damp from your mini water war, and the smell of burnt food is still lingering faintly in the air.
You yawn, stretching your arms over your head. “Okay. Now you can leave.”
Rafe makes a dramatic, offended face. “That’s how you treat your guests?”
“You’re not a guest. You live here at this point.”
He grins, like he knows it’s true. Instead of leaving, he walks past you toward the living room, flopping onto the couch like he owns the place. “Might as well stay, then.”
You sigh, following him. “Rafe.”
He kicks his feet up onto the coffee table, completely ignoring you.
You stand over him with your hands on your hips. “You’re seriously not leaving?”
“Nah,” he says, shifting to make himself more comfortable. “Besides, I’m tired.”
You shake your head, exasperated, but it’s not like this is anything new. Rafe has been making himself at home in your space since you were kids, since before you even knew what personal space was.
With another sigh, you move to the other end of the couch, pulling a throw blanket over you.
Rafe watches, unimpressed. “You’re really gonna sit all the way over there?”
“Yes.”
He just stares.
You hold your ground for about ten seconds before giving in with an annoyed groan.
Rafe smirks as you crawl over, settling into his side. His arm lifts automatically, making space for you before it drapes lazily over your shoulders, tugging you closer until you’re properly pressed against him.
You huff. “Happy now?”
“Yeah,” he murmurs, shifting so you’re even more tucked into his side.
The room is quiet for a while, the soft hum of the air conditioner filling the silence. Rafe’s fingers trace absent patterns along your arm, his touch lazy, familiar.
You yawn again, your eyes growing heavy. “You better not stay the whole night.”
Rafe doesn’t answer.
You peek up at him. His expression is unreadable, but there’s a flicker of something in his eyes as he looks down at you.
Then, instead of responding, he just pulls the blanket higher, making sure you’re completely wrapped up before relaxing again.
You know what that means. He’s not leaving.
You should tell him to go home. You should make him leave.
But as your eyelids flutter shut and the warmth of him keeps you comfortable, you decide—maybe just this once, you won’t fight it.

HANDPICKED
PART NINE.
Hobie Brown x GN!Reader
3.2k words
You work at a flower shop in late 70s London and Hobie's being a menace. Slowburn? Probably will be around 10 parts. Strangers to reluctant acquaintances to friends to something more. Maybe a lil' messy?
Part one. Part two. Part three. Part four. Part five. Part six. Part seven. Part eight. Part nine.
The week passed by painfully slowly. Hobie, busy rehearsing with his band, wasn’t keeping you company at the shop. Rose wasn’t there either, actually enjoying retirement for once. The only thing to entertain you was the old radio, but you didn’t dare put on one of Hobie’s favorite pirate stations, unequipped to explain it to the next customer. Additionally, you still had the irrational fear that the cops would somehow know you were listening to a pirate station and come arrest you right away.
When the weekend finally arrived, you still felt anxious at the idea. Especially considering that Hobie being on stage meant he couldn’t be by your side for your first concert, and you didn’t look forward to being thrown alone in a crowd of energetic punks. The day of, your anxiety only increased. He had left to rehearse with his band, and you were alone with your thoughts.
Before he could leave, you did ask him what you were supposed to wear.
“Dunno mate. Something comfortable. Layers so you can take ‘em off when it gets warm inside.” He shrugged, and you only looked more confused.
“Don’t I have to dress… I don’t know… Punk?” You tilted your head.
“Wot? Nah, just wear whatever you want. You don’t have to put on a punk costume, there’s no such thing.” Faced with your anxious gaze, he sighed. “I mean, if it makes you feel better, ya can always put on fishnets or som’thin’, I don’t know.” He rummaged through a pile of his junk on the floor, grabbing a black pencil and holding it like a weapon of mass destruction. He unceremoniously grabbed your face, squeezing your cheeks. You shut your eyes as the pencil approached.
“Don’t stab my eyes please—”
“I know what I’m doin’! Stop movin’!” He mumbled as he carefully applied the black around your eyes, before letting your face go. “Now rub yer eyes like your life depends on it and smudge it real well.” You followed his instruction.
He laughed at you. “Perfect. You look like a sad racoon. Punk as hell.”
You puffed and pouted, but he was already out of your flat.
You weren’t too mad.
When the time went to leave, you almost convinced yourself not to go. Almost. But then you spotted the crumpled yellow sticky note on your desk, his messy handwriting barely legible from how the ink had bled. You traced the letters with your thumb, inhaled sharply, and forced yourself out the door.
You dragged yourself in the cold, trying to wash away whatever worries you had. You were just there for him. It was going to be alright. You stole a jacket of his, hoping the spikes would act as some sort of protection.
The air stung the skin of your nose as your steps quickened in hope of finding some warmth inside the club. The closer you got, the more alive the street seemed to grow. Distant laughter, muffled music spilling from unseen doors, and the faint smell of beer and cigarettes hung in the air. Your steps faltered when you saw the neon sign above the club, its flickering letters buzzing like a warning.
Groups of punks were gathered near the entrance, some sharing cigarettes, others already tipsy and singing something off-key. Two men, swaying slightly, were either arguing or playing, you weren’t sure. You swallowed down your nerves and slipped inside.
You were hit with the suffocating atmosphere of the place, the smell of alcohol and smoke stronger than before, music already blasting, bass rattling your chest and almost deafening you. Glowing lights in the dark blurred with moving masses of bodies, laughter meddling with rugged voices as you tried to make your way further front, sliding along the wall, shoulder against the graffitied bricks..
You spotted some wooden boxes in a corner and made your way to them. Perfect. You shamelessly climbed on them, granting yourself a place to sit and see the stage.
Whoever was there wasn’t Hobie yet, but the music was good. You nodded your head to the rhythm, a thoughtful smile gracing your lips. The crowd swayed and surged, like a living, breathing thing. Some danced with abandon, their limbs flailing wildly, while others simply bobbed in place, their heads nodding in time with the music.
Soon enough, another band was called for, and your heart raced as you scanned the stage cautiously for a familiar silhouette. When your eyes landed on Hobie, you couldn’t contain the excitement bubbling in your stomach, cheering the rest of the crowd. He strode across the stage like he owned the place, his movements effortless and magnetic. It was the same way he moved through your apartment or the flower shop, that unshakable confidence oozing from his every step.
He wasn’t the frontman, someone else had that role, commanding the mic with probably equal charisma, but your eyes were on Hobie, and him only. He adjusted the strap of his guitar with ease, his lips curling in a smirk as he plucked the first few notes, his piercings catching the light from the spots. His body swayed with the music, his head tilting back as he played.
And you couldn’t look away.
A mix of awe and pride made your heart beat faster, matching the tempo of their drummer, and you hung to each note tugged on both the strings of his guitar and of your heart.
He looked so at ease, so completely in his element, and it hit you like a freight train—this was his home. This was where he was meant to be.
You weren’t sure when it started, but at some point, your throat tightened, and your eyes burned. You blamed the lights, the smoke, the intensity of it all, but deep down, you knew. Seeing him like this, so free, so unapologetically himself, made your chest ache in the best way possible.
You didn’t miss one second of his performance, barely blinking. During the short moment between songs, you saw his eyes scan the crowd and part of you hoped it was you he was looking for. But up on your dark corner, away from the blinding spots, you knew he couldn’t see you.
When the set ended, you forced yourself off your makeshift seat, weaving through the sea of bodies. Hobie had told you his band usually hung around after, so you had to find him.
That proved to be harder than expected, and you were getting pushed around on the way. The room felt tighter now, the music louder as you were jostled left and right. It was harder to find him there, in the overwhelming sea of punks.
Someone much taller than you stumbled toward the bar, bumping into you hard enough to send you straight into a solid figure.
“Watch out mate—” Hobie started, turning to steady whoever had crashed into him, but his expression shifted the moment he saw you. His smile flickered from amusement to something softer, and the warmth in his eyes eased the sting in your nose. "Oh. Hey."
Before you could respond, his gaze flicked over your face, his smile dropping slightly. "You alright?"
Many conflicting feelings bubbled up in your throat, excitement, relief, but your nose still stung from the impact, and you realized—too late—that your eyes were glossy.
You didn't even have time to think of an answer, before his fingers found your wrist. “Come on.”
He didn’t wait for permission. One second you were in the club, the next, the cold air slapped your face as he dragged you outside. Your tears finished to smear the eyeliner Hobie had so proudly smudged onto your eyes earlier.
“What happened?” Hobie asked, his brows furrowed. “Some prick shove you too hard?"
“No—No. I’m fine,” you managed, as you tried to swallow the lump in your throat. “I’m alright.”
“Then why are you bloody cryin’?” He asked and you felt the slight panic in his voice.
“I’m not sure,” you babbled, wiping your face, “I just really liked your show.”
Hobie blinked.“Yer cryin’ because you liked the show?” He sounded slightly confused. “We play punk, not tragedies!” He exclaimed, still a little worried, but amusement started to mendel in as it looked like there was no serious issue. “You scared me for a sec’. Didn’t think our music was that bad.”
You let out a small laugh. “Sorry. I just… I don’t know. That was moving.”
“I mean, I get it,” he quipped, his grin widening, “Overthrowin’ capitalism could bring me to tears too.”
You let out a shaky chuckle, and he pulled you closer, his voice dippin’ back down. “Are you sure yer alright?”
You nodded fiercely. “I loved it, really. It was so amazing.”
He hummed, unable to hide that your reaction, although unexpected and a bit dramatic, touched him deeply. His hands found your face, thumbs gently wiping underneath your eyes. “You really do look like the saddest raccoon.”
You lightly hit his chest, earning a quiet laugh.
“Are you okay goin’ back inside? T’s freezing out ‘ere.” He commented softly, unsure if he should really take you back inside in case you were overwhelmed.
You nodded, eager to feel the warmth again, and he led you back, this time keeping close. His hand occasionally brushed yours—not quite holding, but there.
“Oi, here comes our guitarist!” A huge guy with a green mohawk called out, and before Hobie could react, he had yanked him into a mess of half-hugs and slaps on the back, to which he answered by pulling him in a headlock. You remembered him being the frontman. Not that you really focused on him.
His bandmates spotted him immediately, their energy still crackling from the set.
You could barely distinguish the mess of people, even less the limits of bodies or facial features. You hovered a few steps away, unsure whether to try and insert yourself or just wait by the side. You loved seeing him interact with his friends, he was so different and at the same time the exact same. He was just much more playful, shoving and grabbing easily.
“This is your mystery guest?” A man leaned against the bar, his brown mullet sticking to his forehead, pointing right at you. He looked you up and down with an exaggerated nod of approval. “Thought you were makin’ ‘em up, mate.”
“Right? The way he talks, we figured you were imaginary.” A woman with a side shave and gorgeous curls added. You saw her on stage too. Nerves were eating you alive faced with all that attention. “I really like your eye makeup. Very avant-garde.” She added, as Hobie pulled his arm over your shoulders to bring you in the circle, and you unconsciously pressed against him, grateful he was saving you from the interactions. You just gave your customer-friendly smile, hoping it was good enough.
“Yeah, t’s proper romantic, the way he goes on. Got us all choked up!” The guy with the mullet said, idly swirling his drink in his hand. Your face burned, but Hobie interrupted you before you could say anything.
“Shut it, Karl.” He groaned, clicking his tongue. His thumb gently rolled against your shoulders, hoping to ease your nerves.
“Oohh, shut it, Karl,” the guy with the green mohawk mocked in a high-pitched voice. He playfully shoved Hobie, and let his arm pull him a near-headlock he barely dodged.
The woman smirked, shifting closer to you. Her voice was so soft and alluring and you swore you could hear her clearly despite the deafening noise. “Are you sure Hobie’s not your partner or something? Cause he’s actin’ like a proper schoolboy.”
Your brain stalled. “What? No? I mean, we’re just—”
“Oi, don’t do this to ‘em,” Hobie grumbled, rubbing his forehead.
Karl, completely ignoring him, slung an arm around your shoulder, a bit gentler than he did his friends, grinning. “Don’t worry, love, we’ll take good care of ya. Hobie’s a pain in the arse, but he’s got exceptional taste.”
Hobie swatted him away with a muttered “piss off”, but you barely noticed. Your head was still spinning from everything that was happening at the same time.
Before you could dwell on it, someone shoved a drink into your hand.
“Here, have a taste,” Mohawk grinned, way too pleased with himself.
You took a sip, and immediately choked. The whole group laughed, even the woman although she at least tried to stifle it.
“Yeah, yeah, give the newbie the strongest thing ‘ere, real original,” Hobie deadpanned, plucking the drink from your hands before you could suffer further. He took a sip himself, barely reacting.
You were still coughing, “What the hell was that?”
Hobie sighed dramatically. “An’ you lot wonder why I don’t bring people ‘round.”
The laughter only grew louder. You felt warm, dizzy, not from the drink, but from this. The noise, the heat, the way Hobie lingered closer without ever quite touching you.
You learned the names of his bandmates, beside Karl, Robbie with the green mohawk and Riri the gorgeous bass player. Conversations followed, most you zoned out of.
By the time Hobie pulled you away, you weren’t sure if your lightheadedness was from the alcohol or from him.
Once again, the wind made your cheeks sting, and you tightened Hobie’s jacket around you. A comfortable silence stretched between you, only interrupted by the sounds of your steps and the occasional music coming from bars around.
Neither of you dared to break it, until you reached your flat, shuffling for the warmth inside.
You took off your shoes and he untied his tall boots, both of you exhausted. You snacked on whatever was in the fridge before making a way to the mattress.
“D’you like the jacket?” He asked, watching you take off the jacket you stole from him. You gave a shy smile.
“I thought it’d fit the place more than anything I own.”
“Anything would’ve fitted.” He said earnestly, and it made your smile widen. After a short silence, his own slightly faded. “Tell me if I’m pushin’, but you are sure nothin’ happened to make you cry?”
When you were done, your eyes found his again, and he was a little dumbfounded by your rambling. His guard kept slipping around you, and he didn’t feel like keeping it up tonight.
You felt slightly embarrassed at your earlier display of tears. He looked so worried. “No, it was just… I’m not fully sure, I guess I was overwhelmed by all the noise and the lights and the people. And seeing you up there, so…” You paused searching for your words, too tired to care about hiding your admiration. Deep down, you knew he already knew anyway, he saw the pages of your sketchbooks and he would’ve had to be blind to not see the stolen glances. “So amazing and cool and free. It’s like something clicked, y’know?” You kept going on, speaking your thoughts out loud helping you to make sense of them. “Sometimes it’s hard to figure you out, but not when you’re on stage. You seemed so happy, so in your place. I was proud, and… I don’t know. I broke down.”
“Mh.” He crawled closer to you, his weight shifting the mattress underneath you. “Ya just can’t help but pull stuff like that on me,” his voice much lower and quieter than usual, “I’m not goin’ to be able to take it much longer, ya realize?”
You tilted your head. “What?”
“You make me so fuckin’ nervous,” he finally muttered.
You gulped, his name escaped your lips and his eyebrows furrowed. His fingers nervously rubbed the line off of his forehead before reaching for yours, and you felt your hands go clammy and your pulse quicken. It beat in your throat, in your temples, in your chest, in your wrists as your hands laced together. Your eyes searched for his, unsure yet full of something you didn’t grasp fully.
“It’s like you have no idea what you do to me, I’m tryin’ not to lose my goddamn mind, and here you are, makin’ it bloody impossible.” He let out, his softer tone betraying his vulnerability. You were frozen in place, unsure if he was scolding you or something else you didn’t let yourself think to avoid getting your hopes up.
“See, I’m tryin’ to act cool, and then— then you look at me like -this-,” he rubbed the tip of his nose, almost hiding his face for a second, “and then I’m just done for. Can’t think. Can’t really breathe either, y’know?”
Hell, you knew very well, and at that moment, you couldn’t really breathe or think either. You just stared at him, eyes wide shifting between his left and right eye as if you’ll decipher something else in them. His fingers twitched between yours, and he looked like he regretted his words already. Your hands felt cold as he tried to let go, and you just reached back for him, almost in an act of desperation.
He let you go, and you shuffled inches closer, your brain mushy and your ears still ringing from the club. You didn’t have time to process your own pining, but you had to face the reality of your feelings, and the warmth that pooled in your veins at his words.
“Hobie,” you called softly, almost scared to pronounce his name. “Don’t pull away from me.” Your murmur barely reached his ears. Your gaze fell down to his lips, but you forced it back up to his eyes. The distant muffled noise from the city below didn’t help to drown out your thoughts, all running miles a minute. “Can I?” Your voice cracked under your words.
A flicker of surprise crossed his face before he nodded and you felt a portion of the weight alleviate. You leaned closer, legs tangling together. You did let go of his hands, but only to find the nape of his neck. You felt his eyes on you, heavy lidded, watching all of your movements, almost unsure. You closed yours and let your lips brush against his. Everything paused for a moment, and you felt your stomach move in ways it wasn’t supposed to.
His hands found your sides, grounding you as he leaned in, the cold metal of his piercing a jarring contrast to the warmth spreading through your chest. When you pulled away, he was looking at you with an expression you never saw on him before. His eyes were half lidded, so soft, almost dazed. You wanted to imprint that vision in your memory forever.
He leaned in again, the tip of his nose brushing your cheek in a tender gesture, his arms on your sides now fully wrapping around you and pulling you in. You let out a breath you didn’t know you were holding.

|* yelling too much
!sensitivepeonyreader
!s2-3 rafe in mind
warnings
cursing+kinda toxic??
You had asked Rafe earlier if he didn’t mind you’d come over. He replied that you didn’t even have to ask, but that he was out dealing with business and he’ll be back soon. So you went to his room after you got situated in the house, and you went to his closet( just because!).
Then you noticed something peeking out, you picked it up..holding a gun now. You dropped it soon after.. but you were too curious and picked it up again. “why would Rafey have this..” you mutter out quietly, yes you were naive but you knew that he did do.. “bad things” so to say but still..you mess around with it, you didn’t even know it was loaded and boom! You shot a hole in his closet wall, unfortunately, he just got home and heard this.
He rushed upstairs knowing you were home, having the worst thoughts in his head that you had gotten hurt by someone who was on bad terms with him. He slams the door open, seeing his gun on the floor in front of you, the hole in the wall of his closet, and you. Standing there with wide eyes and your hands clenched “rafey-“you had squealed out but cut off by him.
“What the fuck are you doing, [name].” he grabs his gun putting it in his back pocket “I.. Why did you have a gun Rafe I just-“ He cut you off as his voice got rougher and louder “It doesn’t have to do with you! Don’t touch my shit again. You should’ve fucking left alone the moment you noticed it.” He yelled at you, your eyes were getting pricked with tears.
Your face was getting warm “I..I didn’t..mean..” “It doesn’t matter if you didn’t mean it, you messed with it and now there’s a goddamn hole in the wall.” As he examines the wall he mutters under his breath “fucking stupid bi..” he trails off hearing a sniffle, he turns around seeing you starting to cry. “shit..hey..he-“ you start to sob “I'm sorry! I didn’t mean it.. I shouldn’t have messed with your stuff..” you choked out and started to grab your bag.
Rafe’s hand comes to your shoulder “Baby, calm down please.” though you continue to cry, you let him turn you around. He holds you in his arms rubbing his hand up and down your back “Don’t apologize baby..’m sorry.” he knew you were sensitive, he was just angry in the heat of the moment. He regretted it, badly.
After a good cry, you both ended up laying in his bed “Sorry..” you muttered out, and he kisses your forehead “Told ya..you ain’t gotta say that crap.” Rafe murmurs while pulling you closer as you lay on his chest. “can I ask..why’d you have it.?” you ask quietly “you know I do stupid shit..it’s just in case..somethin happens..”
You look up with vulnerable and widened eyes “What do you mean if something happens..nothing should happen to you..” he holds your jaw instead, then kisses your nose “Don’t worry about it, nothing's gonna happen, darling, alright.” you nodded in his chest. You might be dumb, but did you believe him?
No. You knew something was up, but for now..you’d stay safe and comforted in his chest…

~ Oh, It’s You ~
<<Prev THREE Next>>
[Series Masterlist][Main Masterlist]
Ex-Sneaky Link!JJ Maybank x Kook!Reader
This is an AU set 1 year after s4 however canon plot points won't really be mentioned.
After months of hooking up with JJ in secret, you both began developing deep feelings for each other, but when his friends, Kie especially, learn of your relationship and plot on it's downfall JJ leaves you reeling and confused as he enters a relationship with his best friend leaving you to wonder what you did to push him away so quickly. Unbeknownst to you however. the blonde was struggling more than he let on, wanting nothing more than to go his own path but feeling trapped with those who used to make him feel free. The only person he can think of now that makes him feel as open as he once did is.... you.
Warnings: emotional cheating(they almost kiss), ooc Kie, Depressed JJ but he doesn’t realize, lying and small amount of manipulation on Kie’s part.
~~~~
JJ’s fingers clenched against his phone, knuckles turning white as he waits for your response. Eyes darting between his phone screen and Kie’s angry face in front of him. “Don’t you want a life JJ” She spits at him like venom.
She seemed like such a different person now. JJ remembered when he trusted her with almost anything but whenever he thinks of her now he needs to stop himself from thinking of his dad. He can’t help but wonder if his mother was as easily manipulated by him as he’s beginning to realize he was by Kie.
Nothing he ever does is good enough.
“You said I needed a job and I have an interview, I don’t understand what the big deal is.” JJ sighed, still waiting for the feeling of his phone buzzing in his hand.
“I didn’t mean at some shitty little garage, that’s not going to get you anywhere in life. Working on cars is your hobby, you cannot make a livelihood off of it.” The way she said “you” so full of spite and anger made him feel so small, holding back his own anger as to not snap and make everything worse.
“I’m good with cars Kie, if I get enough legit experience I could open up my own garage.” JJ shrugs, only half enjoying the idea himself but wanting to please her. His eyes fall shut as she scoffs again, arms crossing over her chest while she gave him a disapproving look.
He didn’t want to do this, he hated when she talked to him like this. And when he got your text in the middle of one of their many fights, it felt so right that he should have known it was wrong. But he just couldn’t stay here, and he couldn’t admit to her that he had nowhere else to go after everything. His phone buzzed and his heart jumped, his eyes falling to the screen in his hand trying not to act weird as he read your text.
Y/N🤫💛 Are you sure that’s a great idea?
JJ wastes no time in typing out his response, ignoring the way Kie paces in front of him. She speaks angrily about him getting a job at Rafe’s fancy new nightclub instead, raising her voice with every word and glaring at his phone every second. His eyes roll despite how hard he tried to control them, knowing she hated when he did that but finding it harder and harder to be the perfect boyfriend she had imagined. “Are you seriously ignoring me? If you don’t want to talk about this maybe you should leave for the night.” Kie spat, anger clear on her face and JJ couldn’t blame her.
Jay Not sure if anything is a good idea anymore but ik u feel safe and i have nowhere else to go anymore
It took you much less time to formulate your next text as you read his. Your heart hurts at the pain he seems to be in, he seems so trapped in whatever worries he had right now. He seems hurt and lost, and you know him well enough to know he’s feeling like a burden so you quickly respond, leaving it up to him in the end.
Y/N🤫💛 The window will be unlocked, don’t feel like a burden Jay. I know things are weird between us now and they might always be, but I will never turn you away when you’re struggling. No matter what.
JJ read your text with slightly watery eyes, he felt lost and hurt, he was hurting the people around him just by his existence. He couldn’t be who Kie or John B wanted anymore, it was becoming too much. JB was a dad now and JJ understood why everything needed to become so serious so fast, he really did. But despite how happy he was for him and Sarah and their beautiful baby boy Jackson, he was terrified. The last few years felt like a blur, they went by so fast and JJ ignored it by telling himself he would be free in his 20s.
But he was wrong. It all kept piling on. He felt like in a blink of an eye he would be 30 and still feel absolutely nothing real. With a pang of guilt he bid a stressful goodbye to Kie as he left her house, knowing exactly where he would go, knowing he shouldn’t but knowing he couldn’t resist.
You were the only one that could slow everything down.
The sound of JJ’s bike outside your house had you shooting up from your bed, darting to unlock the window hoping your mom couldn’t hear the sound. She had heard too many tear filled rants about the blonde to ever accept him in her house but you just couldn’t resist him.
JJ quickly scaled the flower trellis on the wall outside your window just as you opened it for him, stepping back and attempting to discreetly watch him. His muscles were on full view from his cut t-shirt, constricting while he worked his way into your room, quickly turning to shut the window before looking back to you, catching you staring with a smirk.
“Hey Princess,” The nickname slips past JJ’s lips without a thought, so easily and smoothly as if he never stopped speaking it, his teeth tugging at his bottom lip as his eyes train themselves on you, “Thank you for letting me in.”
“You can’t call me that anymore JJ,” You breath out quickly before continuing, “And you don’t need to thank me.”
JJ watches you walk around your bed to retrieve the same blanket and pillow he used last time, handing them to him as you plop down onto your bed, “So what happened? You seemed different when we were texting earlier.” JJ scoffs at your words, sitting next to you, almost too close as he starts speaking.
“Me and Kie got into another fight,” He sighs, his eyes finding yours like a refuge before falling to his feet, “She’s been pestering me to work for Rafe so I got an interview at this garage close to her place to get her off my back but she doesn’t think it’ll be enough.”
“Well she doesn’t get a say, it’s your life Jay, don’t pick a job just to spite her. And I understand where she’s coming from, Rafe has basically become an overnight success in the last year but I agree that you shouldn’t settle for what she wants.” JJ watches you, waiting for you to push him one way or the other, but you dont. You wait for him clearly wanting him to choose for himself.
And JJ can’t remember the last time any one accepted, or even wanted to hear, his opinion.
“I don’t care how much everyone thinks he changed or how easily he can convince people, hell I don’t care if he has actually changed. A Cameron will never be my boss.” JJ states matter of factly and you smile up at him, his reserve and certainty always being some of your favorite aspects of his personality.
“I don’t doubt it Jay, and I personally think you’re too good to work for him anyway.” You giggle, and JJ takes note of the fact that is sounded exactly as it always used to. He almost forgot what it sounded like. JJ found himself reminiscing on every second he spent with you, how happy he was and how happy he could be again if he just took a leap of faith.
“I just don’t know what to do,” JJ averts his eyes from you, feeling lost in his own feelings and wants, “Nothing I ever do is good enough for her and it feels like this just wasn’t right, everything feels so forced.” The way his head falls into his hands almost breaks your heart, and you wish you could hug him even though you knew it was inappropriate.
“I can’t help with everything going on but my boss is hiring,” You grimace, your face twisting slightly, “I wasn’t gonna say anything because it’s for a janitor.”
JJ side eyes you with a weak smile making you laugh, turning on your bed to face him fully. “I’m serious JJ, it’s a good idea I swear.” You state with a bit of a giggle in your voice, instinctively gripping at his bare shoulder for only a second before retracting your hand quickly.
“How is that a good idea?” JJ laughs, the warmth of your hand lingering on his shoulder like a burn for far too long.
“Well A it’s not Rafe and B it’s not a random garage with no one you know. Mr.Barnes even grew up in the Cut, he’s way more down to earth than you would expect at first glance and he won’t treat you poorly. ” Your eyes meet his, a smirk growing on his lips at your words.
“So I’d get to work with you, every day?” JJ speaks slowly, words slipping off his tongue like they were somehow sultry. Against your better judgment you smile at his words, breaking eye contact while you try and form words.
“Well not every day, but I would be who shows you around and everything until you get the hang of the place.” You sigh, trying to ignore the excitement running through your body at his close proximity.
“What do you guys even do there?” JJ asks with a small laugh, wanting to hear you talk more than anything.
“Well I just answer calls and fix Mr.Barnes schedule mostly, and y’know take deliveries and stuff but it’s a security company so we more or less just give rich people protection.” Your eyes meet as he watches you talk, JJ can’t think of a better sight than your happy smile while you speak. He could listen to you talk about anything, genuinely. And he knew right then and there that he didn’t care if he was mopping floors and taking out trash, he was gonna take the job just to see you.
Your breath catches, your eyes meeting his again, this time letting them stay locked together. The intensity grows quickly making your chest feel tight, your irises feeling trapped in the strong blue gaze of his. A gasp escapes your lips as he begins to lean in instinctually, making you place a hand on his chest while you put distance between you both by standing.
“I’m sorry, I wasn’t thinking,” JJ stutters, eyelids closing tightly preparing for you to yell at him to leave, that he was a two timing piece of shit that needs to get out of your life for good. Instead you stay pacing in front of him eyes brimming with tears, “I shouldn’t have even thought- fuck I’m so sorry.”
“It’s fine, it’s fine, lets just forget it,” Feeling bad for him, you stare to his reddening face feeling your own heat up. Knowing he has nowhere else to go, and despite the sense of worry settling deep in your chest as you decide to ignore this moment you let him stay. “We should probably get to sleep anyway.”
“Yeah yeah,” JJ starts, jumping up from your bed and avoiding eye contact as he prepares a spot to sleep on the floor.
teacher! charlie & reader — me + you = ♡
i don’t know who agrees with me on this, but i’ve been onto math teacher! charlie & english teacher! reader since dinosaurs went extinct..
♡ i’m thinking a middle school setting.. eighth grade, perhaps. you’re across the hall from each other, but don’t talk too often. not much apart from the shy waves in the morning and small talk while waiting outside of your classrooms to greet your students.
♡ well, that was until charlie started having computer issues. now, don’t get me wrong, he’s a very intelligent man! but he fucking hates these school issued chromebooks they’ve handed out to students.
♡ he usually assigns most work on paper since it’s math, but the school asked for him to start using ixl or fucking khan academy, i don’t know. something online that students can access in case they lose their papers.
♡ but you? you used chromebooks all the time! you weren’t cruel enough to make your students write their papers by hand!
♡ none of charlie’s students could figure out what was wrong with the chromebooks, and neither could he, so he went across the hall to get some help (all embarrassed too.. so cute).
“hi! sorry to interrupt, but i’m having trouble getting my students chromebooks to work? do you think you could help?”
♡ of course, being a nice person, you invite him into your classroom and happily help the man. you explain to him why it was broken and how to fix it etc (he wasn’t listening btw, was staring at you the entire time, he thinks you’re so beautiful).
♡ and after that interaction, charlie tries to talk to you more. (YOU’RE SOOOOO BEAUTIFUL HE JUST WANTS TO BE AROUND YOU) in the break room, he’ll ask how your classes are going, and at lunch, he’ll stop by to see what you’re doing, and even at the end of the day, he’ll check up on you to make sure you don’t stay at the school too late.
♡ his students do not fail to notice this. in fact, they encourage it. “but mr dalgeish, my chomebook is broken! can you please ask them to fix it? i want to finish my work so i don’t have to do it at home!” how could he turn down an opportunity to see you?
♡ he tells his class to keep a low volume while he leaves the room for a moment, walking over to your classroom with his student’s chromebook before knocking.
“hello. sorry, again, for interrupting. i’m not quite sure what’s wrong with this chromebook… could you help?” “oh, don’t worry about it! of course i’ll help!”
♡ you start to take a liking to mr dalgeish too.. he’s quite cute, isn’t he? :) he seems so nervous to talk to you outside of the routine good mornings, which you adore.
“so, uh, how was your weekend?” “it was nice! i got to relax and not worry about grading, so what more could i ask for?” “haha, yeah, i, uh, i agree!”
♡ your students probably get so sick of you both. smiling at him while he stumbles over his words like an idiot. one of his students probably try to stage a note, but it’s so obvious that it’s from said student LMAO.
‘dear beautiful english teacher please date me - mr d’
 you put a note on his desk with the note from the student attached.
‘so mr d, do you know what this is about?’
♡ oh GOD. he’s so embarrassed. he spends THIRTY minutes of class lecturing them on how that was unprofessional and inappropriate.
♡ talks to you at some point during lunch break.
“i’m so sorry about them—they can get really out of hand and they really like to meddle in other people’s business which is an entirely different conversation—” “charlie, it’s fine.” “i-it’s fine? ‘charlie’?” “oh, is that okay? i mean, i thought—” “no, no, no, it’s more than okay. i like it.” JUST KISS ALREADY.
♡ so. much. fucking. tension. YOU’RE BOTH TEETERING ON FRIENDS/MORE THAN FRIENDS AND IT ANNOYS EVERYONE.
♡ i can assure you right now, if you or charlie don’t make a move, your students or even a fucking coworker will do it for you. (enter: teacher! jschlatt and teacher! ted nivison)
The Queen of Romantasy and the Race Car Prince - Chapter 2
Pairing: Lando Norris x Elizabeth "Lizzie" Treshton (Original Character)
Summary:
Elizabeth Treshton—bestselling romantasy author, queen of fae heartbreak, and sworn devotee of a carefully structured routine—never expected her service dog to abandon protocol and diagnose a Formula 1 driver with something. But that’s exactly what happens when Mara the wonder-dog ditches Lizzie’s side to aggressively alert to none other than Lando Norris in the middle of a coffee shop.
Warnings and Notes:
Mention of epilepsy, seizures and service animals. I don't myself suffer from epilepsy, so I asked my IRL friend, who thankfully was nice enough to let me ask her all the questions I could come up with. The rest I asked Reddit. So everything that's wrong...that's totally my fault and not on purpose.
As always big thanks to @llirawolf , who listens to me ramble
By the time Lizzie heard the knock on her door, she was almost regretting inviting Lando over.
Not because she didn’t want to see him—she did. But because she was still exhausted, her limbs felt like lead, and she hadn’t had the energy to change into anything more presentable than this.
Which was how she found herself standing in front of her door, dressed in sweatpants and a vintage Ferrari hoodie that was older than both of them, trying to summon the will to care.
She pulled the door open, and there he was—Lando Norris, grinning at her like she hadn’t texted him less than 6 hours ago to say, Hey, I had a seizure, so can we not do the fancy restaurant thing?
“Hey,” he said, then his eyes dropped to her hoodie. His expression morphed into pure betrayal. “You—Lizzie.” He pointed. “Is that—is that a Ferrari hoodie?”
She crossed her arms, ignoring the amusement bubbling in her chest. “It was my dad’s.”
“That doesn’t make it better,” Lando said, still staring at it like it personally offended him. “It makes it worse. It’s, like, vintage blasphemy.”
Lizzie rolled her eyes and stepped aside to let him in. “You’re in my apartment. You don’t get to insult my clothes.”
“I absolutely do.”
“You really don’t.”
"You literally live in Woking," Lando said darkly as he stepped into her apartment. "A stone throw away from the MTC!"
Lizzie rolled her eyes once more, closing the door behind him. "And I'm still a Ferrari girl at heart."
Lando groaned, shaking his head. "You're breaking my heart here, you know that?"
"Is now the time to mention that Mara is also named after Ferrari?" she asked with a grin, as he followed her into the kitchen and sat down a grocery bag on the counter.
Lando blinked. "How is Mara named after Ferrari?" he asked her.
"Well, Mara is short for Maranello," Lizzie said brightly.
Lando's mouth fell open. "You have got to be kidding me," he said, staring at her. "Your dog is named after Ferrari headquarters?"
Lizzie just smiled, not even trying to hold back her amusement. "Yep," she said, popping the p on the word.
"First the hoodie, then the dog... what's next, a Vettel tattoo?" Lando asked her with a sigh.
"I mean, I was considering it," Lizzie said, completely deadpan.
For a moment, Lando actually looked worried. "You're joking, right? Please tell me you're joking."
Lizzie cackled, a deep, full-belly laugh. "Relax, Lando. I'm kidding."
His shoulders sagged. "You're an evil woman. An actual evil woman."
"What is even in there?" she asked with a nod to the grocery bags.
Lando smirked. “Backup nuggets.”
Lizzie frowned. “Backup nuggets?”
“In case yours suck.”
Lizzie snorted. “Wow. True trust issues.”
Lando grinned, but there was something softer behind it. She felt it when he looked at her for just a second too long.
She shoved the nuggets into the oven before he could say anything annoying about it.
"I also brought ice cream. I didn't know what you like..."
"Vanilla," she said immediately.
"Vanilla it is," he agreed. "Where's Mara by the way?"
Lizzie's eyes darted down the hallway. "She's probably passed out in the living room, honestly," she said. "Dad said she barely left my side last night, poor thing. Probably wore herself out."
Lando winced. "I can imagine. Must've been pretty freaked out, huh?"
Lizzie nodded. "She kept licking my face. Apparently they do that to wake you up when you have a seizure."
For a moment, his gaze softened, and he looked at her thoughtfully. "You don't get hurt, right? When you have a seizure, I mean."
"Generally, no," Lizzie said, "I might accidentally bite my tongue, and I'm usually sore and tired after, but I don't get hurt."
Lando nodded, but she could see the concern still lingering on his face. "But you're okay now?" he asked quietly.
Lizzie managed to bite back her smile. "I'm fine, Lando. I promise. This really is normal for me."
His head dipped. "You're sure?"
She softened, touched by the worry in his voice. "I'm sure," she said gently. "No need to look so serious, pretty boy."
“Excuse me, I’m not pretty.” He objected with a disgusted expression.
Lizzie snorted. “Yeah, you aren’t if you pull a face like that.” She shot back immediately.
“Excuse me, that’s not very nice!”
“Mate, make up your mind,” Lizzie said with a snort. “I say you are pretty, you disagree. I say you aren’t, you also disagree. What are you then?”
“I am ruggedly handsome,” he told her seriously.
She could only stare at him.
“If you somehow manage to grow a beard, then, maybe. But with that clean-shaven look you have going on right now? Not in a million years. You’re pretty, and that’s that.”
Lando's eyes widened, taken aback. "Did you just—" he spluttered. "Did you just insult my ability to grow facial hair and then go and call me pretty in the same breath?"
"I absolutely did," Lizzie said, barely able to hold back her grin. "What are you gonna do about it, pretty boy?"
What she hadn't expected was for him to advance and corner her against her kitchen counter.
She froze, eyes wide, her heart suddenly thumping in her chest. Lando planted one hand on either side of the counter, caging her in.
He leaned in, his face inches from hers, expression still tinged with faux offense.
And his eyes...she could spent a whole book describing their colour and Lizzie was quite sure that it was going to fall short. Even in the dim light of her kitchen, they shifted from blue to green and back.
The intensity of his gaze was almost unbearable. Lizzie's mind went completely blank, and she found herself staring at him, a flutter of nervous energy coursing through her like electricity.
Lando was so close now that she could feel the warmth of his breath against her skin. She was suddenly hyper-aware of every nerve in her body, like this new, intimate proximity had set her senses on fire.
Lizzie wasn't even sure who moved first.
All she knew was that suddenly, his lips were on hers. The kiss started gently, almost tentatively. But something shifted in an instant.
It became hungrier, more desperate, like a dam had burst. Lizzie couldn't help herself; her arms wrapped around Lando's shoulders and pulled him closer, every part of her body pressed against his.
One of his hands threaded into her hair, angling her head to get better access, and she made a small, needy sound in the back of her throat. Her fingers curled into the soft cotton of his shirt, clutching at it as she kissed him back, dizzy with the feel of him.
Oh.
Oh.
Lando groaned, the sound reverberating through her. His free hand slid beneath her hoodie, seeking out the bare skin of her waist.
Her own hands moved over his back, desperate and urgent. The kiss turned hotter, less controlled as her world narrowed to this, to him, to the intoxicating feeling of his body against hers.
And then the sound of the oven timer beeped. Loudly. She jerked in his grasp, managing to make one of her cookbooks clatter down onto the floor.
A second later, Mara was barelling into the room, clearly thinking that she had had a seizure and destroyed her house.
Lizzie and Lando sprung apart, both of them flushed and more than a little breathless.
Lizzie couldn’t help it; she burst into a fit of giggles, watching Mara skid across the linoleum.
"I'm fine, Mara," she said through her laughter. Her dog whined, clearly not convinced.
Lando was looking like a deer in headlights, his cheeks flushed and his hair messed up from her fingers. He stared at her as if he'd never seen her before, and she bit her lip to keep herself from grinning like an idiot.
"We should rescue the dino nuggets," Lizzie suggested.
Lando still looked stunned. "Right - yeah - nuggets-" he said, blinking.
Lizzie chuckled and knelt down to pat Mara to reassure her. The dog was practically whining with worry, licking her face and nudging her. Lizzie gently pushed her back in an attempt to give herself some space.
"I think you traumatized my dog," she said, looking up at him with a smirk.
He scratched the back of his head, still endearingly awkward. "Sorry," he said sheepishly. "I wasn't exactly...thinking when..."
She just shook her head, grinning. "Maybe we should focus on rescuing those dino nuggets, don't you think, pretty boy?"
He swallowed, glancing at her briefly before nodding. "Yeah. Nuggets."
Lizzie pushed herself off the floor, giving Mara's head a final pat before she headed over to the oven. Lando joined her in the kitchen, his gaze flickering to her every other second. Lizzie took the plate from the oven, setting it down on the stove top.
"They look fine," she said, inspecting the slightly-singed edges of the nuggets. "All things considered."
Lando leaned against the counter beside her. "Great," he said, but his voice was still a little unsteady.
She shot him a sideways glance, amused by the way his gaze kept dropping to her mouth.
"Was that..." he trailed off and she watched to see a slight blush cover his cheeks.
"What?" she asked, hiding a smile. He was even more adorable when he was embarrassed.
He cleared his throat, looking vaguely flustered. "That was okay, right?"
And just like that, her own cheeks grew warm. They'd just made out in her kitchen, and now he was asking her if... if it was okay?
She studied him, taking in the pink hue on his face. There was something so vulnerable about the way he was looking at her. It was like he couldn't believe it had happened, and now he was scared he had overstepped.
"It was..." she began, only stopping to consider her words."...pretty incredible."
Relief flickered across Lando's face. "Yeah?" he said, a hint of the cocky demeanor returning. "You liked it, then?"
In response, Lizzie just rolled her eyes, pushing the plate of dino nuggets towards him to end the conversation before he could say anything else.
"Try a damn nugget."
Lando raised an eyebrow, but his smile grew even wider as he picked up a nugget from the plate. "Bossy."
She just rolled her eyes again, biting back a laugh. "Eat your nugget before I regret telling you that I liked it."
He chuckled and popped the nugget into his mouth. "Not bad," he said, still grinning.
Lizzie found herself returning the smile. He was impossible.
But then again, she thought as she looked at him, she supposed she wouldn't want him any other way.
"Let's take this to the living room," she suggested.
"So is there even more Ferrari merch there?" Lando asked her. She just rolled her eyes.
"Not Ferrari merch, no," she said drily. “I keep that in the bedroom.” Lando gave a squawk in response. She just laughed.
Did her living room kinda look like the set of a fantasy movie had thrown up all over it? Yes.
She had a near life size portrait of Astrid and Ciaran, the main characters of her book series hung over her fireplace, which an amazingly talented fan artist had painted and she had purchased.
Lando was staring at the portrait with something close to amusement. He turned to her, eyebrow raised. "Okay, so who is that guy, and why does he have bat wings?"
Lizzie sighed, taking a seat on the large couch that dominated the room. "That would be Ciaran. Bat wings and all."
Lando took a seat beside her, still eyeing the portrait suspiciously. "And who exactly is Ciaran supposed to be?"
"He is the Dark Prince...The Heir to the throne of the land of Kasharia," she said with a wave of her hand. "He's the love interest in the Seasons of Fate Series."
Lando's eyebrows shot up, turning back to the portrait, studying it with more interest this time. "And the Wings are his thing, I'm guessing? Makes him the 'Dark Prince'?"
Lizzie bit her lip to keep a laugh from escaping. "Basically."
"Right, right." He was nodding now. "What about the woman, then? Blondie with the dagger?"
Lizzie found herself smiling, remembering the story behind that particular piece of art. "That would be Astrid," she said.
Lando looked like he was starting to put pieces together. He leaned back on the couch, eyes on the portrait once more. "And Astrid is, what? The princess or something?"
"She's a handmaiden of the Princess of another kingdom he's supposed to marry," she explained with a wave of her hand. "She ends up married to Ciaran instead."
Lando was nodding along as Lizzie described it, a look of fascination on his face. "Oh, so it's like one of those forbidden romance deals, huh?" he asked, sounding surprisingly invested.
"In a sense, yeah," she agreed, finding herself amused by his interest. "You seem surprisingly interested in this, considering you thought the wings were over the top a minute ago."
Lando shot her a look, his eyes twinkling. "Hey, I can appreciate a good love story, can't I? Besides, million of people adore your books. There must be something pretty special about them."
Lizzie felt a surge of warmth in her chest at his words. It still surprised her, at times, how much her books meant to people.
Lizzie felt a surge of warmth in her chest at his words. It still surprised her, at times, how much her books meant to people.
"I don't know about that, but people seem to enjoy them," she said lightly. "Still thinking you are going to pick one up?" she teased him with a grin.
"It’s probably gonna take me two months to get through the first book, between my schedule and my dyslexia, but the bat wings have totally sold it," Lando told her seriously.
She couldn't help but laugh at that, the sound bubbling up uncontrollably. The idea of Lando, who was about as far from a fantasy fan as you could get, actually trying to read one of her books was too absurd. "You are absolutely not going to read one of my books," she said, grinning.
"Hey, I could!" he objected with mock offense. "Don't underestimate me."
Lizzie shook her head, still laughing. "I'm not underestimating you. But let's be honest, you've got better things to do with your time than read about bat winged princes and handmaiden."
"Don't you have better things to do than too watch 20 men in their cars drive around in wobbly circles?" he shot right back. "You created these books. You poured your time and energy into them. I don't think there are many things that are more important than that."
Lizzie fell silent, taken off guard by his words. He had a point, she thought.
"I suppose you have a point there," she admitted quietly.
Lando seemed pleased with himself, his cocky demeanor falling back into place. "See? I do have some smarts in there."
She rolled her eyes but couldn't keep the smile off her face. "You are insufferable, you know that? Besides, what's with your job," she teased him. "Isn't Miami coming up?"
Lando just snorted. "Yeah, we are all looking forward to hear the Dutch national anthem. Again."
Lizzie chuckled, picturing the familiar sight of the podium at a Grand Prix - the winning driver and the Dutch and Austrian anthems playing. "You are so dramatic. Maybe you'll win in Miami."
He gave her a look, his expression clearly communicating that he thought her words were ridiculous. "Uh-huh. You obviously don't know my luck. Second place is basically my second name."
Lizzie laughed, finding his complaining endearing despite herself. "You sound like Mara when I have a treat, but don't give it to her. Stop whining. Second place is still impressive as all hell, you know that right?"
Mara perked up at the mention of her name and took that moment to jump up on the couch, and once again, not caring at all about personal space, just drape herself all over Lando.
Lando looked startled, his gaze flying down to where Mara was settling onto his lap. "Uh..." he said, his voice full of confusion.
Lizzie tried not to crack a smile at the way he looked like he'd never encountered a dog before. Mara, meanwhile, looked incredibly pleased with herself.
Lando looked up at Lizzie, his expression a comical mix of disbelief and alarm. "What...what is she doing?" he asked, clearly bewildered.
Lizzie couldn't help herself; she burst out laughing. "She likes you," she managed to say through her mirth. "Clearly a woman of excellent taste."
Lando gave her a dubious look, clearly not sure if he was being insulted or not. Then Mara shifted in his lap and let out a happy sigh, and he looked back down at her. Lizzie could see the exact moment he melted. No man was immune to dogs.
"I'll go against my core beliefs and root for the ugly orange car with your number on it if you promise me that you'll believe that you have a chance of winning."
Lando shot her a look, a little surprised at her request. Then his familiar cocky smirk spread across his face.
"You'll root for papaya? Over Ferrari?"
Lizzie just nodded. "As long as that big ego of yours lets you believe you can win," she said dryly.
ALL THE THINGS WE COULDN'T SAY | v.hacker
— MINORS PLEASE FUCK OFF FOR UR OWN GOOD —
No matter what, seeing him all over again feels like the inch has given you, spans the entire seas.
OLD BSF!VINNIE X FEM!READER
WARNINGS: NSFW CONTENT MINORS DNI, some angst, some fluff, unprotected sex, alcohol ment, making out praise kink, degradation kink, cheating, possessiveness, angry sex, slapping, face pushing, begging, choking, mean vinnie!!
word count: 2.5k <3
a/n: lil apology for the disappearance mls :(
Ever since that fateful day, I haven’t spoken a word to Vinnie.
It’s not like we were best friends, chatting everyday- at least not best friends in LA. But having sex whilst he had a girlfriend proved too much for me.
I ignored every text, every call, every attempt to get in contact despite what I really wanted. However I knew that any form of interaction between us would end up the same way our last one ended.
And I was very right.
It had been 2 months, it was all going good. I was starting to forget the feeling of his lips on me. Starting to forget the way he made me laugh, held my body close whispering sweet nothings.
I started spending more time at the gym, and spent more time with my friends. Went out clubbing, shopping, anything that would help me forget.
But in the back of my mind, only one thing actually made me crumble in the middle of the night, only one thing I thought of when I fell asleep, the one thing I craved.
He had given me an inch and I imagined it to be a mile- the same mistake I kept on making.
So when I heard that Vinnie was throwing his birthday and I had received the coveted invitation- I imagined it to be the world.
Vinnie’s birthday was always something I looked forward to back home. Maria’s cooking, Nate on the grill, and Reggie playing silly board games with Vinnie and I.
***
“YOU FUCKING CHEATER” I yelled, jostling Poncho in my lap.
“Oh c’mon it’s not my fault you suck at Uno” Vinnie laughs moving to pet Poncho.
“Absolutely not! I had Uno, I was about to win!” I grumble, my head falling onto the coffee table table.
Reggie’s hand rubs my back, “Hey we all know Vinnie cheats don’t worry,” He teases sticking his tongue out at his big brother.
The two boys start bickering, laughing, and yelling curses as I cradle Poncho, “Shh baby ignore em their just two stinky men” I whisper
Their words quickly turn into playful rough housing until Maria breaks them up bringing out Vinnie’s cake.
His face is illuminated by the soft glow of the candles, as the cake is set in front of him. His big signature toothy grin covers his entire face as he watches us start to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to him.
One of his hands wraps around my waist and my world just stops- at least for a moment before I’m jostled by him blowing out the candles in one big huff.
“What did you wish for Vin?” Nate asks, smiling at his newly adult son
His face turns to look at me giving me a smile before turning back to his dad, “Can’t say unless I don’t want it to come true.”
My world just died right there before starting all over again.
That was a day before he left for LA.
***
I had spent the night getting ready with my friends. I was adorned in pretty jewelry complimenting my hair. I was wearing a pretty white tie-in-the-front white cropped top with long sleeves and a low-rise white mini skirt. I had matching waist chains with some strappy white heels.
Vinnie’s favourite perfume of mine sprayed on my skin in an involuntary action as I packed up my little purse with some needed essentials and some non-essentials.
I stared in the mirror, Was I really doing this?
“Babes Tyler is here!” My friend Kylie shoots in my direction.
Tyler- the only reason my friends thought I should go to this party was if I brought a guy, so Tyler had to do.
I guess I am.
My friends and I walk out to Tyler’s car, not before a shot for pure confidence, and slip into the passenger seat driving down the same way I went two months ago.
We arrive at the house around 10:30, right around when most people are trickling in. I fix my dress as we walk through the door and all of a sudden the wave of anxiousness washes over me and I want to run.
I don’t however run away, despite how much I want to, I still hold it together.
Kylie pulls me aside to check up on me and hands me a drink, telling me to ‘get some!’ Despite the fact that we both have very different people in mind.
Jordan, one of Vinnie’s friends walks up to me engaging in mindless conversation that's so clearly an attempt to find out who Tyler is or if “I’m seeing anyone.”
Despite that fact we have a pleasant conversation whilst I feel a pair of very familiar eyes burning into the back of my skull as I hug Jordan goodbye as people get ready for midnight.
Two blonde dudes come in holding a large sheet cake with 22 candles placed ever so gently on top.
Vinnie’s hand is wrapped around Allison who stares at him as if he’s the sun and the stars and his eyes stay on me, causing me to sweat. He grins as the cake is placed in front of him, straightening out his stupid little suit as everyone begins to sing.
As the song finishes everyone bursts into cheers as he blows out his candle as Allison grips onto him, his eyes leave the cake finding his girlfriend’s as she asks, “What did you wish for baby?”
He smiles, not saying a word as he looks back at me, “It’s a secret.”
That’s too much for me.
I maneuver around the drunk crowd, sprinting up the nearest stairs and into the first room, walking out onto the balcony and sitting down on the ground.
My world feels like it's out of orbit, everything just stopped. My head tips back on the glass balcony as I try to recollect my thoughts.
Stray tears fall onto my face, if he can do it for her, why couldn’t he have done it for me, is the only thought that swirls in my mind.
“Hey are you okay?” No no no.
I shut my eyes praying he’ll just go away, but he doesn’t, he never could. He sits down next to me, his body heat slipping on to me.
His hand rests on my shoulder, “Open your eyes” Vinnie’s voice whispers and like a marionette, I obliged.
My bloodshot teary eyes meet his as I turn my head as I move to wipe away my tears.
“Yes?” My voice breaks.
“Why are you crying?” He whispers, his gaze soft and his words even softer.
“Don’t do this, Vinnie.” I whisper, desperation evident in my voice.
“What pretty girl?”
And I cry all over again. I take in staggered breaths as his arms wrap around me. His hands soothe my skin as I crumble into his dumb suit.
I melt into his touch. I want to die like this, in his arms.
“I can’t do this, I don’t know why I came” I whisper as tears fall on my face and into his shirt.
“It’s my birthday… didn’t you want to be here?” He asks, his voice breaking a little as he pulls my face away, lifting up my chin to look at him.
His gaze drops to my lips for a moment as I snap out of it, immediately rising to my feet stepping into the room.
“No no we can’t do this” I whisper-yell at him, my hands crossed over my chest
“We’re not doing anything?” He looks bewildered, his eyebrows knit together
“We can’t be friends.. I-I can’t be here alone with you, your girlfriends downstairs!” My voice rises a little
His expression is the picturesque definition of pain, “Why not?”
“Because I spent years loving you and you threw it all away!” I yell my hand pointing at him
“I didn’t throw it away!” He raises his voice, stepping closer to me
“Oh yes you fucking did, and I was doing so good! I was forgetting about you!” I cry out, I step closer to him.
“I don’t want you to forget about me” His voice is expressionless, as he steps closer as we’re practically chest to chest
“I want to! You have a girlfriend” I slam my fist on his chest as his grabs my wrist
“Jesus were you always this fucking bossy when we were kids?” His eyes narrow, eyeing me
I roll my eyes and scoff, “Fuck. You.”
He has the audacity to laugh, “You can try and forget me, get with that idiot you got here with- But never, tell me I threw us away, I loved you! I love you.”
His voice softens ever so slightly, “I will never not love you, tell me to break up with Allison, I will, tell me to kick everyone out right now, I will. Whatever you want, tell me. I’m yours”
“I hate you. Leave.” I huff
He shakes his head, “Anything but that.”
“Leave me like you left me 3 years ago and 2 months ago” I whisper
“No.” His voice is harsh and commanding
“Vinnie…”
“No.” His grasp on my hand doesn't falter and in fact his other hand grasps my other wrist.
My eyes narrow, please whatever scraps of self respect I have please kick in.
His pushes me back against the wall, my hands pinned either side of me as he places a kiss on the birthmark on my neck, “I’m never leaving you”
I shut my eyes, tipping my head back, please kick in, I beg.
“Open your eyes.” His voice rough and ragged
My eyes flutter open, meeting his blown out brown eyes.
Oh no.
His lips meet mine in a desperate kiss, his hand moves to grasp my waist as mine tangles in his hair.
“We can’t” I whisper despite still kissing him back
“Just shut the fuck up” He groans as he bites down on my bottom lip
“You’re my worst addiction” He mumbles moving to kiss my neck
I whine, nails digging into his curly brown locks, “I hate you”
“I know my love” I murmurs against my skin, kissing every spot of my neck he can find before dipping down to my tits.
“Vinnie-”
“Yes.” His voice cuts mine off, his head tipping up, looking up at my eyes.
I shut my eyes, “Need you”
“What? Where? Tell me” He begs
“Need you to fuck me, rough” I whisper
He stops his kisses, moving to cup my face, “Whatever you want doll”.
He meets my lips in a rough kiss guiding me to the edge of the bed, pushing me down to sit.
“God you're so pretty, it makes me wanna ruin you sometimes” He whispers out, his voice rough as he moves a strand of my hair away from my face as he looks down at me.
He moves me further up the bed as he leans over me, pulling the buttons of his waist coat down but as he’s mid way he gets frustrated he just rips it off along with his shirt as he kisses me again.
His lips move in tandem with mine as he pulls the knot of my shirt, causing it to fall down.
“Mine” He whispers into the kiss, “Say it princess”
“Yours” I whine as he shuffles my skirt and panties off and unclasped my bra
“My perfect girl” He mumbles as he flips me over, smushing my face into the pillows
I can hear his belt clinking open and he shuffles out of his constricting dress pants and boxers
“S gonna hurt darling girl, just be good for me” He whispers as he kisses my spine as he slowly stretches me out
His hand pushes my head down into the pillow as his other hand rubs circles on my clit.
My toes curl up and my eyes roll back as he starts to slowly rut into me, “There she fucking is”
His grunts echo in the room as my muffled moans coat the pillow, “Cmon, you can take it won't you? You're just so good for me.”
His words tease me as he speeds up his pace, he pushes down my head to thrust deeper into me as his muscles flex around me.
“So fucking tight, s’ like you were made for me” He grits as he pulls my hair up as a ragged moan leaves my mouth
“Such a whore, so good for me aren’t ya?” He chuckles
I whine nodding my head as my mind is too cloudy to form words.
He slaps my ass illciting another pitchy moan from me, “Asked you a fucking question”
“Mhm all for you” I mumble biting down on my lip
“God you don’t even know what you fucking do to me darling” He groans as his hand speeds up around my clit
“M close, Vin m close” I ramble like an idiot shutting my eyes
He slaps my ass again causing me to yell, “Beg for it gorgeous girl”
“Please Vinnie” I crumble whining
He laughs at my sad attempt, “My good girl can do better than that can’t she?”
“Please please I need it so bad, need you so bad” I mewl under him
His pace speeds up, “Yeah? Take it baby”
I cum with a loud moan as my eyes screw shut. I can feel Vinnie kiss along my spine, caressing the sides of my body.
He flips me over so I’m looking at him, his flexed biceps on either side of my face and his dumb chain dangling over my face.
He sinks in again as I whimper, “Can’t Vin”
“Yes you can, you're so good, aren’t you?” His voice teases
I succumb to his words mindlessly nodding my head.
“That's right, you can take it and you fucking will.” He punctuates with a sharper thrust
The headboard slams against the wall against Vinnie’s impossible strength rutts into me.
One of my hands wraps around his bicep and the other holds onto his wrist as I pull it on to my neck.
His eyebrows scrunch together in confusion.
“Please?” I whisper
He chuckles as he squeezes around my neck using the grip to pound deeper into me as my eyes roll back as my cunt clenched around him.
“M’ gonna cum, can’t hold out, you just feel too fucking good” He whispers
I whine at that cumming around him without warning as I clench around him he finishes inside me.
We take a second to catch our breaths just lying there for a second.
He pulls out maneuvering us on the bed as he kisses my neck, “Not too much my love?”
“Never” I hum
He nuzzles into my neck as my back meets his chest, “Want me to break up with Allison?”
I take a second to process his question.
“Yes… but I don’t want to date you right now” I whisper
“I'll stay alone forever if it’ll make you happy princess” He hums
“Good” I giggle
“God should've known you were heartache from the moment I met you” He chuckles as he falls asleep in the crook of my neck.
An inch? A mile? As long as it's Vinnie, for you its enough.
// you pick up Jake from the Prada afterparty… things get stuffy //
Wc/ 2k
An/ my first work posted here! Lmk if you like it <3
It’s sometime past 11 at night, but god it’s sweltering outside. The boys spent the night at an after party for Prada while you stayed in a hotel room, only getting updates on them by checking fansites for pictures. Jake was largely not allowed to check his phone for public appearances like this, but it was still only slightly upsetting to you that you had to learn about his whereabouts from a third party.
However, it was now twenty minutes ago that you received a text from Jake asking to pick him up, which worried you. The wording wasn’t like him, too stilted for the way he usually spoke to you, even if it was only a quick text.
You know they have a ride back, probably a limo or something similar to pick them up, but the text was too off-putting for you to ignore, and you left as soon as you read it. You round a corner and park behind the building they’re in, shooting a text back to Jake that you made it.
Two minutes later a back door opens and you see your boyfriend and Jay walk out, Jake obviously drunk. You meet them in the middle,
“Is everything okay?” You try to leave the worry out of your voice, failing. Jay has an arm around Jake’s shoulders, not exactly holding him up but close enough to it. He sighs, holding up Jake’s phone in a way that makes you feel stupid for not realizing it wasn’t your boyfriend texting you at all.
“Yeah, everything’s fine. Just too much to drink. He wouldn’t stop asking for you. Can you take him back? He’s a little less than press presentable.” You melt a little at his words, finally making eye contact with your boyfriend.
Calling the look Jake gives you puppy eyes when you finally focus on him would be an understatement. His cheeks and nose are bright pink, and his eyes are shiny with intoxication, his perfect lips falling into a pout. Before you can even respond to Jay he’s reaching out for you, out of Jay’s grasp and slipping clumsily into your arms. You laugh at him, so so smitten.
“I’ll take him off your hands. Go back to the guys. Thank you for texting.” Jay nods wordlessly, handing you Jake’s phone before turning back. He’s probably thankful to be free of responsibility for a while.
Jake’s arms are wrapped around your neck, clinging to you like you’re going to run away. He must be pretty drunk then.
“I missed you.” He mumbles into your neck. You kiss his forehead gingerly, pocketing his phone with the arm not holding him up,
“I missed you too, baby. Did you have fun?” He nods, face still stuffed into your neck,
“I need you.” You try and pry him off you so you can get back into the car, but he’s stronger than you even drunk, and he won’t move.
“I’m right here, Jake. Let’s go back to the room okay?” He whines at this, grip around you becoming even tighter.
“No baby, I need you need you.” You still don’t quite get what he means until he starts placing open mouthed kisses on your neck. Your hands fall to his waist.
“Jake we can’t, we’re in public.” You try and walk backwards towards the car, but he once again keeps you in place. He whines again into your throat and moves one of your hands below his belt buckle so you can feel him, his bulge prominent immediately. He sucking delicately on your neck and whining into your ears and your resolve is fizzling out quickly.
“Please baby, it hurts. I’ve needed you all night.” His whines are getting more and more desperate, and you both know you can’t resist him. In one motion you remove his mouth and hands from you, grabbing his wrist and yanking him towards the car.
You both climb into the back row of the car, sweating from the hot evening air. Jake doesn’t waste anytime pulling you into his mouth, plush lips against yours. His skin is on fire and he tastes like alcohol but he’s so addictive, and you can’t get enough. He looks so stupidly good in all black, his shirt already undone by two buttons and his hair disheveled in a way that makes you want to pull at it.
You knew he was drunk but it’s only obvious now how far gone he is by the way he’s kissing you, all tongue and teeth and it’s driving you crazy. Jake is always clingy when it comes to you, but drunk Jake? All bets are off. He becomes attached at the hip to you as soon as he’s got a few beers in him, and you can tell by his desperation and how hard he is he’s definitely had more than that tonight. He pulls back a fraction of an inch, both of you breathing heavy.
“Baby, I need to taste you.” He barely lets himself finish speaking before he’s pulling ungracefully at the waistband of your jeans and unbuttoning them. He pulls them down in tandem with your panties with a desperation you rarely see in him, pushing your legs open determinedly.
He’s always a people pleaser, even drunk, and he refuses to give you anything but his full attention when he goes down on you. he nips and licks at the inside of your thighs, looking at you with pupils blown wide.
You hear a mumble of “you look so good, baby,” before he loses his patience entirely and starts pressing his tongue flat against your core.
His hands on your hips are gentle but his mouth is mean, nose pressed into your clit as he laps up your wetness, already addicted to the taste. you’re hands on instinct weave their way into his hair, pulling on the dark locks. He groans against you in response, the pain and your high pitched whines only egging him on.
His thumb is rubbing slow circles into your hip, trying his best to go easy on you but it’s so so hard to hold back when he’s this horny. All night the only thing he’s been thinking about is your mouth and your pussy and how tight you are when he presses in for the first time, the night going from enjoyable to pure torture without you pressed against him. He moves his mouth back to press a kiss to your slit, reveling in the wetness of you before wrapping his lips around your clit and *sucking.* You cry out immediately at the stimulation, only at your resolve to be more weakened when you feel Jake’s finger pressing into you, your eyes pricking with tears at the pleasure. He starts pumping his finger into you at a brutal place, your brain almost going completely blank at the sensation. Almost.
“J-Jake, if you don’t slow down I’m go-“ He puts another finger in you, and you can feel the coldness of his rings when he presses them all the way into you.
“Jake!” You whimper pathetically, Jake knowing every little thing to please you. He creates even more suction on your clit and you’re so *so* close before you’re finally regaining enough willpower to push him off you. It’s a testament only to your desire to feel him inside of you that you relive yourself of his mouth and fingers, already uncomfortable at the loss of sensation.
When you make eye contact with Jake he looks upset, a kicked puppy who doesn’t know what he did wrong. His lips are red and swollen and his chin is covered in your slick, his eyes pleading with you to let him continue. You almost coo at him, so eager to please he forgets about his own arousal, and you try to console him.
You push his hair out of his eyes, “You did so good, baby. But I wanna feel you.” He moans in frustration, undoing his belt and pushing his slacks down, palming himself through his boxers.
And the way he looks right now is so irresistible you can’t help it when you sit up to pull him in for a kiss, tasting yourself on his lips, your hands going down to replace his own. It doesn’t take long before he’s melting into your mouth and your hands, breathy moans being swallowed up by your kiss as your hands push his boxers down. You glide gently up his length, teasing him just a little because you know how sensitive he must be. His cock is already so wet, even without much effort from you, always so needy. He’s immediately putty in your hands, any ego he had before pouring into your mouth with his kisses.
His breath hitches when you tighten your hands just around the head of his cock, torturing him only for a moment before you’re back to stroking him gently.
“Good boy,” you say as you guide his head into your neck, his pathetic little noises only growing louder. “Always so good for me Jake.” He’s suckling into your neck again and you’re sure it’s going to leave marks but you don’t care, your hands moving faster against him. You know he’s already hard enough but Jake is almost never this submissive with you. You can’t resist him like this. But after only a few moments of your hands against his length he’s mewling into your throat, and you want to reward him for how patience he’s been all night.
“You ready, baby?” You say, giving him no time to answer before you’re positioning yourself and sinking down onto his length with no warning. He makes a noise in between a moan and a gasp, already struggling with how warm and wet your pussy is around him. You give him no time to adjust either before you’re bouncing up and down on his cock at a brutal pace.
All he can do is take it as his hands fall to your hips, powerless against you. He’s whining and whimpering pathetically, the alcohol making him so much more sensitive than normal, the wet sounds your pussy is making only sending him closer to the edge. His hands have barely ventured under your shirt when you notice his eyes struggling to stay open, so fucked out already.
You don’t let him catch his breath before you’re leaning into his ear, “Come on Jake, come in my needy pussy. Want you to fill me up good.” Your words and the way your walls tightened around him is what finally sends him over the edge, moaning your name as he comes inside you, pleasure almost immediately giving way to overstimulation. The feeling of him filling you up is what pushes you over as well, coming all over his cock.
You pull off him shortly after, laying back against the leather seats of the car with him against your chest. He’s still leaving kisses along the parts of your neck he can reach, ever affectionate in his altered state.
You’ll have to drive back to your hotel soon, where you’ll deal with a drunk, stubborn Jake who wants nothing to do with showering or skincare and only wants to fall asleep with you in his arms, but you know trying to move him right now is mean. And until you can coax him out of the back of the car and into the passengers seat you’re content feeling his lips against your skin and his mumbles of affection to you, grateful to Prada for the open bar tonight.
Now That We Dont Talk | Hwang Hyunjin
⭑ PAIRING: Hwang Hyujin x fem!reader
⭑ CONTENT: angst; ex-boyfriend!hyunjin uni au (based in taylor swift lyrics from the song “now that we don’t talk”)
⭑ SYNOPSIS: After a sudden breakup, university life goes on, but Hyunjin and you start to realize that distancing yourselves doesn’t always mean letting go of your feelings.
⭑ WORDCOUNT: 1,1k (1145)
I had to let him go, to move on with my life even if it hurt, even if it was hard to let go after everything we’d been through together.
After all, we don’t talk anymore.
But going on as if nothing had happened was difficult, especially with our friend groups being so interconnected. Anywhere I went, I ran the risk of seeing him, and it would be impossible not to remember everything.
The night before, there had been a party at the frat house—a party I chose not to attend. To my friends, I didn’t go because I had a headache, but the truth was I was scared of running into him, of facing him and not knowing how to react.
I heard from everybody the next day that Hyunjin had gone to the party. People parted as he walked by, as if he were splitting the Red Sea.
Had he been anxious to see if I’d show up?
Did he wonder why I wasn’t there?
Did he worry about me on his way home?
I guess those are questions I’ll never know the answers to—because we don’t talk anymore.
They said your hair was longer, shinier, and wavier than ever. You presented a whole new, radiant image of yourself. From the outside, it seemed like you were moving on, as if nothing had happened.
I was so glad I didn’t see you.
I miss everything about you. I miss our old routines, I miss the old you, our sweet nicknames, and our late-night outings. You didn’t have to change.
But I have no way of telling you any of that—nothing would come out of my mouth. I’d just stand there, speechless, like a statue about to crumble. But it doesn’t matter, because we don’t talk anymore.
The day we broke up, I called my mom. She said it was for the best. My tears wouldn’t stop falling; I didn’t want to let you go.
But I kept giving you more of myself, and it felt like you wanted me less. I don’t know if my feelings started to overwhelm you, but I no longer felt reciprocated, loved.
Everything reminds me of you—every song, every hallway in the university where we walked hand in hand. Every corner seemed to hold a piece of the story we once were.
I was walking, staring at the floor of the deserted university hallways, lost in thoughts of what we could have been, when I bumped into someone heading the opposite way.
To keep me from falling, the other person grabbed my arm, pulling me close to their warm, comforting chest.
“S-sorry, I wasn’t looking…” The words hung in the air as I looked up to see my “savior.”
It was true, everything they said about you—you looked so handsome. Your hair now brushed your shoulders, your features were serious, but you were glowing like never before. In front of me stood a Hyunjin I hadn’t seen look this dazzling since our first months together.
“Don’t worry, Y/N. Are you alright?” he responded, his dark eyes locked onto mine. How could he hold my gaze after everything?
If I kept looking at him, if he kept touching me, I might melt right there in the hallway, so I pulled away from his grip, fixing my gaze on the lockers to my right.
“Yeah, thanks,” I replied shortly, dryly—a response I’d never imagined giving him, not when we were friends, let alone when we were together.
But no matter how much he wanted it, I couldn’t be his friend, and now I was paying the price for what I’d lost, despite holding onto it with all I had.
The many wounds on my heart wouldn’t let me be his friend.
“Please, look at me,” he said in a choked tone, releasing a sigh, almost like a lament, as if he regretted everything that had happened to bring us to this moment.
Would you tell your friends you were begging me just to look at you?
I looked him over from head to toe. On his finger, he still wore the rose-shaped ring I’d once given him.
Looking at his face again, his new look, new piercings in his ears—still as attractive as ever, but farther away than ever.
I couldn’t pretend this was platonic anymore because we were simply over—there was nothing left.
“I don’t like us being like this. I really wish we could be friends,” he said, giving me a closed-lip smile that I couldn’t return.
I couldn’t be his friend because friends aren’t supposed to have feelings for each other. Friends wouldn’t want to be near you all the time, to tell you how happy their heart feels just when you smile at them, touch them.
Tears of sadness welled in my eyes, and I blinked rapidly to try to make them disappear as quickly as possible. I didn’t want him to see me like this after only two weeks of being apart.
“I-I have to go, Hyunjin. I’m s-sorry.” I fled from that hallway, with his voice echoing my name in every corner, asking me to stop.
I had to remind myself of the way you drifted away until I left, until my heart couldn’t take your cold attitude anymore, until there was nothing left to break.
And it infuriated me to still love you after you tore me apart until I was ashes you then wanted to mold into a friendship.
I can’t be your friend, I won’t be your friend. I’m paying the price of losing you, of losing my heart, and how hard it is to stay standing now that you’re not by my side, now that we don’t talk.
It’s true that I no longer need to pretend to like the things you used to enjoy. But I have to admit, acid rock is a part of me now because of you.
I know I’ll become the strong girl you once knew again—a girl with a heart full of love to give, a girl who never expected such indifference from someone who once promised to give her the moon.
I guess maybe I’m better off now that we don’t talk.
The only path to regain my dignity became a mystery, wrapped up like you were when you pursued me.
When you chased me out of love, and when you chased me today in the deserted hallway, begging for friendship because you still wanted me in your life somehow.
It’s a mystery to me what Hyunjin felt or wanted from me after I left, because I could no longer read him like before. But I guess things have to be this way, now that we don’t talk.
Nowadays that I ignore your presence around me, now that I’ve blocked your number, now that at least I can look you in the eyes.
