There's exactly one obvious way to do it!#But that's only because the english language just so happened to evolve that way!#I do wonder…is there any formally standardized language that explicitly states what the correct way to do something in these situations?#(By which i mean situations where there are multiple possible ways to convey the exact same thing.)#I know that in UTF-8 it's mandatory to use the shortest possible sequence to encode a character.#But thinking about it a little more i've just realized that part of the reason that works is that it's even possible to list all ways.#I don't know if it would be possible to design a language like that.#I'd worry about people _thinking_ they're right about the shortest possible way to convey something but then discovering that they aren't.#That would instantly make all previous phrases constructed with the old conclusion ill-formed.#I guess there would have to be some sort of way of some kind to _prove_ that a certain phrase is the shortest possible.#But even then there'd be problems if the language is updated to add new things to the lexicon that retroactively ill-form previous phrases.#God what a fucking nightmare that would be.
