last night i actually got back into writing after probably a year? of not having any motivation to and it's so exciting but god i'm so rusty akfjdks

I think it's a hatecrime against me that there aren't any slugs as big as the giant African snail. Why do the snails get to have all the fun I just want a giant slime noodle.

#I don't want to keep a snail as a pet because theyre kinda prone to shell injuries #and then they die. id be in a constant state of stress #i can't have tarantulas even though i really want to for the same reason - spiders molt and they can actually fuck up #and they fuck up kinda frequently. and if they fuck up they die #because they either tear off their organs in an attempt to free themselves or they essentially turn themselves to stone #or they suffocate. i know that I'd be extremely stressed every da #id be like 'what if it happens what if they fuck up molting i have to stand here on guard in case they start molting and mess up'#because sometimes if you're really fucking lucky you CAN manage to save them. but you have to #be there on time and you have to pray. because its much easier for you to kill them than save them #and i would never forgive myself for that #in general it's very stressful for me to keep pets who don't have very clear signals of joy and displeasure/pain because i #constantly worry about possibly taking bad care of them and them being unhappy #i loved my hamster but i did breathe a breath of relief when she died of old age because every day with her was just #so unbelievably stressful for me. i wouldn't help but be preoccupied with trying to figure out if i was doing something incorrectly #if i was a bad foster parent to her if she was content etc etc #she was a great hamster but the experience was very much 0/10 for me i would never own a hamster again #in the same vein i probably couldn't have a tarantula due to this as well.#plus tbh I didn't even want a hamster my parents got her for me because they wanted me to feel obligated not to kill myself #they said that if i killed myself they wouldn't care for her and she'd die so i had to stay alive.#a part of me knew they were bullshitting but it still freaked me out super hard and made me unimaginably anxious about #getting run over or anything happening to me and paradoxically that made me even more suicidal and depressed #didn't help that my mother didn't even believe in her own plan and accused me of planning to kill myself AND my hamster #she accused me of that several times. I've always had a lot of intrusive thoughts about hurting animals so it #made me break down and self harm every time. obviously that made my mother even angrier and many a time it led to #her accusing me of being a danger to her and others #if she felt particularly hysterical she screamed i was just like my father and that she feared me as much as she had feared him #when he still had a gun. you can imagine how that made me feel considering i jsed to have nightly night terrors about my father #killing my mother.

glad i put a whole 8 inches of bedding in the enclosure just for this little ding dong to completely clear out a cubby of bedding and then go to sleep

#bestie what are you doing #just my life #hamster #anyways this is Blackberry #i love her so much #she already takes treats from my hand and lets me pet her a little bit and i only got her yesterday #she loves her wheel so far. i dont remember seeing a wheel in her tank at the pet store -i got her at petsmart😞-#so i dont think shes ever really been able to run before #and she was with her sister from a litter the worker said one of their accidentally preganant hamsters had while there #theyd both been there for 5 months which is craaazyyyy to me considering they get them in at like 6 weeks old #i havent tried handling her tho aside from offering a baby puff and petting her a little bit once she woke up last night #shes super sweet though and didnt shy away or try to bite when i did #her food mixes i got from HamsterEatery on etsy #the syrian hamster seed mix and the veggie mix as well as the flower forage mix #the petsmart had all of their bowls filled with what looked like fresh veggies and some blueberries which is nice to see rather than pellets #but idk if she was getting any protein before #imma have her chonked up on mealworms and crickets #the bedding looks really dusty?? is that normal for paper bedding? i put it in the freezer for a couple days before to be on the safe side #but its dustier than i thought it’d be #i dont know how to go about undusting it before putting it in the enclosure

Halie started getting Hello Fresh and tonight she had some ground beef so before she started putting seasoning in it she made two little patties and set them aside for her hamster

And she just fed her hamster dinner and came out to tell me she shoved the entire little patty into her mouth and I am so happy for her for that

#dont come at me if this is not good hamster food i do not know and i dont know how much i care #it wasnt a lot and she feeds her a lot of fruit and veggies also she spoils her #along with the meat she set aside some of her zucchini and carrots to share those with her as well #halie was excited to eat sorta the same thing as her #its fun #im jealous of the hello fresh tbh #we did talk a bit though aboht getting them for the house because ive been wanting to do it but it just wasnt the right time #but if we split the cost...#ive heard plenty that its lazy or whatever but as someone who doesnt know how to decide on meals or come up with them on my own #and who is not good at picking produce #and a lot of other reasons #i really like hello fresh #dont mind me #and this time ill be able to pick out mexican food and food with pork #so many possibilities

imma keep it real with you chief: there ain't no such thing as a "low maintenance pet" or a "starter pet". either be willing to fully commit to taking care of your animals or don't own any

#wak #spice tag #kinda I guess???#but I've been trying to raise brine shrimp as of late #and I've learned that even though they don't require the same level care as a dog or a cat #you have to do a lot more than just put the eggs in and put a pinch of prepackaged Growth Food in every 7 days and call it a day #if you wanna keep them alive they need heat. and a source of oxygen. and a light source. and purified/distilled water. and sea salt #and eventually that prepackaged food is going to run out so you need a sustainable means of providing food for them #and you need a Lot of knowledge on how they function and survive outside of a tank #like.. animals like fish and hamsters and such aren't toys that you play with for a while and then shelve when you get bored #they're just that. animals #and thus are a commitment no matter how small or quiet or out-of-the-way they are #and I'll be real nobody below the age of at least 11 should be investing in sea monkey kits #unless there's an educated adult supervising them every step of the way (and even 11 year olds should have supervision tbh)#but the point is #if you want something that you don't have to feed or play with or choose specific enclosures for or be committed to at all #get a teddy bear or something

im finding a like. disturbing common ground where people with murderous tendencies specifically like to target hamsters and cats in particular. and it's really strange. and distressing.

#reading/listening to various stories ppl tell of fucked up ppl they knew #hamster and cat cruelty is very common.#it upsets me greatly as someone who owns/owned and loved my cats and hamsters :(#maybe there's a weird sociological aspect where cats and hamsters are seen as the useless trash pets #i get the impression that many ppl in america at least view them that way #very bizarre way of thinking. and not an excuse at all for the shit ppl are doing.#i felt like venting about this here bc it just makes me really sad seeing ppl mistreat these animals so much #like you don't really see ppl do this to dogs as much. though it definitely happens.#sometimes i think about keeping hamsters again #i think i could care for them way better than when i was a kid with my new knowledge of hamster care #like a 20 gallon tank with a secure lid could comfortably house a dwarf or robo hamster with all the stuff it needs...#hamsters are just so adorable and charming i wish ppl actually appreciated them more #i even had a little fence and mat set id bring out if i wanted to let my hamsters roam outside their cage #it's a way safer alternative to hamster balls :)#anyway uh. hamsters. love them.#hades.txt
