Happy Birthday to my Little Raccoon Dog!
☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
Even though you were new to the Straw Hat Pirates, there was one member that you had quickly grown close to.
The adorable doctor of the ship: Tony Tony Chopper.
Due to the fact that you are naturally capable of manipulating water without eating a devil fruit, you have suffered a lot of injuries trying to control the sea as a result.
Which meant a lot of visits to the doctor's office, which was great for the both of you. You healed quicker and Chopper had the chance to test out some medicine on you as well as get special plants from the ocean.
Nami would say that you two were two peas in a pod, which would confused Chopper and ask you to explain what it means to him.
You often attended to Chopper's needs, acting like a mother or older sister figure towards him. You would make sure he was eating properly and scold him if he was being reckless.
Chopper would often confide in you, as he knew that you would be able to provide him with the understanding and care he needed.
The crew had just arrived at a new island: even though the crew had been to many weird islands, this one was in the top ranks.
Apparently the whole island thought that they were in the year 1890, their dressing completely different compared to the crews clothes, all of us receiving stares especially towards Nami, Franky and Brook.
"Why is she wearing hardly any clothes?" "Is she not ashamed?" "She must be a slut,"
Listening for only a second, you quickly drapped your coat over her shoulders, staring back at the civilians. Nami looked self-conscious, which was never the case. Ever.
Luffy didn't even know half of the words that were said but seeing Nami's reaction made him boil in anger. Fortunately Franky caught on and closed Luffy's mouth before he would start yelling at the citizens.
"Let me go!" Luffy tried to say but Franky whispered something which kept him quiet for the meanwhile.
After a while, the mayor finally revealed himself to them, demanding why pirates were coming to 'terrorize' this island.
The calmest of the crew, Nico Robin, stepped forward and tried to explain herself but the mayor wasn't calm enough to be reasonable.
"Liar! Pirates are never to be trusted!" The mayor stated, looking for the residents to make the scene bigger.
"Mr. Mayor," Robin started, her voice unrecognisable as the rest of her words were whispered but it seemed to have made an impression on the leader.
"Oh- Okay, you have until tomorrow night to get out of here," The mayor said, trying to mask his fear with a fake confidence.
Robin turned around with a smile, pleased with her work.
"Let's go back to the ship to figure out a plan," She said and we quickly agreed, a path was given back to the ship in an instant. . . .
Tumblr media
Chopper had been walking with his crew members through the town aware of the stares that he was receiving but it didn't affect him as much.
He had grown accustomed to the curious gazes and judgmental whispers that followed him wherever he went. He knew that being different was part of his identity as a reindeer with human-like abilities, and he had learned to embrace it.
"Mother! Please help me!"
Chopper's ears perked up amidst the noise of the town, and he quickly turned his head towards the desperate cry for help. Despite the stares and whispers, his compassionate nature couldn't ignore the plea of a child in need.
With a determined stride, Chopper followed the voice, ready to lend a helping hand.
I'll be back soon guys.
Navigating through the crowd, Chopper's hooves barely made a sound as he closed in on the source of distress. The echoes of the child's sobs grew louder, tugging at his heartstrings and fueling his determination to bring solace and assistance.
"Shut up little child!" "Stop crying!"
Chopper witnessed something terrifying: two drunk men beating up a child. His instincts kicked in, eating a Rumble ball to be in the Horn Point form as he rushed forward, using his strong antlers to fend off the attackers and protect the defenseless child.
With the attackers quickly defeated, Chopper's attention shifted entirely to the frightened child.
He turned into his Brain Point form before kneeling down beside them, he offered a gentle smile and reassurance.
"What's your name?" Chopper asked softly, his voice filled with genuine concern.
The child sniffed and looked up at him, their eyes wide with fear. "M-Mark," they stammered, their voice trembling.
Chopper nodded, his heart swelling with a mix of compassion and determination. "Don't worry, Mark. You're safe now. Are you hurt anywhere?"
Mark shook his head, realizing that Chopper was not a threat. Grateful tears welled up in Mark's eyes as he whispered, "Thank you. I'm just scared, but I'm not hurt."
"Mark! Baby! Where did you go!?"
Chopper's ears perked up at the sound of the female voice, and he turned his head to see a woman frantically searching for Mark.
With a reassuring smile, he gestured towards the child and said, "Don't worry, I found him. He's safe with me."
"Thank you so much! I was so worried," the woman said, tears of relief streaming down her face as she embraced her child tightly.
"Come on, Mark, we have to go meet up with your father," she said, grabbing his hand and dragging him away.
As Chopper watched them walk out of the alleyway, he noticed that there were more women with their sons walking in the same direction at the same time.
It was a peculiar sight, but Chopper understood that he couldn't judge their traditions or the reasons behind their actions.
Maybe it was Mother's day? Or a mother and son bonding day for the island?
Suddenly Mark looked back, his eyes filled with terror instead of gratitude.
It was clear that the woman claiming to be his mother was not who she seemed.
Though before he could do anything about it, he felt something make contact with his head, knocking him out. Darkness consumed Chopper as he lost consciousness, unaware of the danger that awaited him. . . .
Tumblr media
It has been 2 hours since Chopper had gone missing and you really started to worry. You couldn't help but imagine all the possible dangers he could be facing out there alone in the dark, and the thought made your heart sink.
Even though Luffy said he would be alright, you couldn't help yourself from envisioning Chopper in dangerous situations. Thoughts of him being chased by predators or getting lost in unfamiliar territory consumed your mind, causing your anxiety to intensify.
"He's going to be alright," a voice said behind you, making you jump.
You turned around to see Zoro standing there, a reassuring smile on his face. "Chopper is resourceful and has survived countless dangers before."
"I know but I can't help but worry," you said, your voice trembling with concern. "I know Chopper is resourceful, but what if this time is different? What if he's in real danger?"
Zoro's smile faded slightly, but he placed a comforting hand on your shoulder. "He's tough remember, he's part of this crew for a reason,"
You nodded, staring out towards the island from where they were docked, and tried to find solace in Zoro's words. Deep down, you knew he was right. Chopper had always managed to find his way back to the crew, no matter how dire the circumstances.
Your heart still ached with worry, but you held onto the hope that Chopper's resilience would once again lead him safely back to the Sunny.
Without saying anything, you saw Zoro hand you a bottle of sake and you accepted it, taking a large gulp of it. As the warm liquid burned its way down your throat, you felt a sense of temporary relief wash over you.
"I've been meaning to ask, why do you act so motherly towards Chopper?" Zoro asked curiously, breaking the silence.
You paused for a moment, contemplating his question. "I guess it's because I see a bit of myself in him," you replied. "I know what it's like to feel scared and alone, and I just want to protect him like I wish someone had protected me."
Zoro nodded understandingly, his gaze softening. "Well, he's lucky to have you looking out for him," he said sincerely.
"Since we're asking questions, why do you act so fatherly towards Chopper?" you said, turning to face him.
There was hardly any space between the both of us since you were sitting close to him but you didn't care. Zoro, however, seemed taken aback by your question, his cheeks turning red and his eyes widening in surprise.
After a moment of hesitation, he finally replied, "I guess it's because I see him as a younger brother?"
"Is that all?"
"No," he muttered, his eyes flickering from your eyes to your lips. "It's not just that. I care about him, just like I care about you."
His words hung in the air, and you felt your heart skip a beat at the unexpected confession.
"Well, I guess that makes you the overprotective dad and me the overly concerned mom of Tony Tony Chopper," you chuckled, trying to lighten the mood.
Zoro's cheeks turned even redder, but a smile tugged at the corners of his lips.
"Yeah, he's lucky to have us as his parents," Zoro replied, his grin growing wider.
As the tension between you and Zoro reached its peak, the air crackled with anticipation. Time seemed to stand still as his lips brushed against yours, sending an electric shock through your entire body.
The kiss was soft yet passionate, igniting a fire within you that you never knew existed. Every touch, every caress, spoke volumes of the unspoken desires that had been brewing between you. In that moment, it was as if the world faded away, leaving only the two of you, lost in a sea of euphoria and longing.
"Zoro, are you there?" The voice of Luffy was loud, enough for the both of us to back away from each other in embarrassment. The moment shattered, leaving us with flushed faces and a lingering tension that neither of us knew how to address.
"I'll go with him," Zoro said, quick to get up and leave, his sudden departure leaving you with a mix of confusion and disappointment.
You couldn't help but wonder if the intensity of the moment had scared him off or if there were other factors at play.
You couldn't help but wonder if Zoro's sudden departure meant that he didn't have romantic feelings for you. The lingering uncertainty left you questioning whether the kiss had fallen short of his expectations or if there were other reasons behind his retreat.
Was the kiss not good enough for him? It was your first kiss after all.
"Hey guys! Did you know what happened at the base?" A voice below at the dock said, capturing your interest. Curiosity piqued, you leaned over the railings of the ship to catch a glimpse of the commotion down below.
"No, I've been stuck guarding the area."
"Well I heard that the pet of the Straw Hats, Tony Tony Chopper was captured using our simplest trick," The male laughed, "And here I thought that they were strong!"
Your heart sank as you quickly sobered up at the mention of Chopper's capture. The playful moment with Zoro was instantly forgotten as a wave of worry and determination washed over you. You knew you had to find Chopper and bring him back safely, no matter the cost.
Sorry everyone, I couldn't wait any longer.
Without a second thought, you jumped off the ship and quietly followed the sound of their conversation, determined to rescue Chopper and ensure his safety.
You weren't the best at stealth, but you managed to stay hidden and follow them to their base, careful not to alert anyone of your presence.
As you approached the entrance, you couldn't help but feel a surge of adrenaline and determination, knowing that Chopper's safety depended on your next moves.
"The password?" A voice said behind the door.
"Evolution prevails," The man said confidently and in a matter of seconds, the door opened.
Right. You knew the password, now you just needed to infiltrate the base, without knowing how strong or how many they are.
Maybe you should have waited for Luffy's command.
No, Chopper needs you right now. He could be in the brink of death and you're the only one in the whole crew who knows more than just CPR.
You walked to the door and knocked twice like the previous did, saying "Evolution prevails,"
The door swung open, revealing a dimly lit corridor. As you stepped inside, the sound of faint footsteps echoed in the distance, urging you to tread carefully.
Since you were fairly new to the crew, you didn't have a wanted poster yet so it was easy to talk to people without being noticed.
"Hey old man, do you know where Tony Tony Chopper is being held?" you asked the elderly man who seemed to be drinking alone. He looked up at you, his eyes filled with a mixture of surprise and caution.
After a moment of hesitation, he leaned in closer and whispered, "You're looking for the pet of the Straw Hats? What do you want with them? Are you supposed to be guarding them?"
"Yeah, I'm new here," You muttered, holding back from sending the man flying.
"Really? Well you're in luck, you get to take care of the weakest prisoner. He's already been beaten up in the basement so you can just watch or join in with the beatings!" The old man laughed.
"Who knew that the future King of the Pirates would recruit such a useless-"
He was on the verge of finishing his sentence when his own drink flew out of his cup, forming a helmet around the top of his head and drowning himself in the alcohol.
Instantly, panic erupted in the bar as the old man desperately tried to break free from the makeshift helmet of his own drink, while the other workers looked on in shock and disbelief.
The chaotic scene caused a momentary distraction, allowing you to slip away unnoticed and continue your search for Tony Tony Chopper.
You ran through the corridors, your heart pounding with each step as the image of Chopper's injured form lingered in your mind.
The urgency pushed you forward, determined to find him before it was too late. Every passing second only fueled your anxiety, driving you to search even harder for any sign of your little reindeer.
It was then that you found a staircase going downstairs, leading you deeper into the labyrinthine prison. With each step, the air grew colder and the atmosphere more oppressive, heightening your sense of foreboding.
"Please help!" "This is hell!" "I'll pay you to let me out!"
The desperate pleas and cries for help echoed through the prison, creating an eerie chorus that sent chills down your spine. The darkness of the corridors seemed to consume the flickering lights, adding to the feeling that you had indeed descended into the depths of hell itself.
Chopper, just wait a little.
As you made it to the end of the staircase, adrenaline coursing through your veins, you wasted no time in searching every jail cell with unwavering determination. With each guard that stood in your way, you swiftly overcame them, using your water ability to ensure nothing would stop you from finding and rescuing Chopper.
The prisoners ranged from young to old, humans to animals, but all of them were beaten up and injured. Their bodies bore the marks of brutality and their faces were etched with pain and despair.
It was a grim sight that served as a constant reminder of the cruelty and suffering within the prison walls.
"Y/N?" A voice whispered from a cell you quickly past by.
You recognized that voice straight away, turning back to look inside the cell. It was Tony Tony Chopper, his small frame huddled in a corner, his eyes filled with fear and hope as he saw you.
"Chopper!" you exclaimed, rushing to the cell and reaching through the bars to hold his trembling hand. "I found you. We're getting out of here."
You were shocked when you saw how beaten up Chopper was. His fur was matted with blood, and his limbs trembled with pain as he weakly clung to your hand.
It was clear that he had endured unimaginable suffering, and your heart ached with a mix of anger and determination to rescue him from this hellish prison.
"Y/N?" Chopper asked in a shaky voice.
"Yes Chopper?" You answered, looking through all of the unconscious guards clothes to find a key from the cell.
"Am I really the weakest?" Chopper asked, his voice filled with self-doubt.
You looked into his eyes, filled with determination, and replied, "No, Chopper. You are strong in your own way."
After finding a key, you quickly let him out, unlocking the cell door and embracing Chopper tightly.
Feeling the warmth of his trembling body against yours, you held Chopper tightly, letting him know that he was safe now and that you would protect him with all your strength.
"I thought you guys were going to leave me here," he cried, clinging onto you, his small body shaking with relief.
"Never," you whispered, wrapping your arms around him even tighter. "I will always be there for you, Chopper. As your mother, I would never leave you."
As Chopper clung onto you, his trembling body slowly started to relax. He looked up at you with tear-filled eyes and let out a small, shaky laugh.
"Now come on, let's get back before Dad gets mad," You said, remembering the event of before.
"Dad?"
"You know, the swordsman that always carries you around," You reminded him.
Seeing his face light up made you smile. "Zoro is my dad?!"
You nodded, enjoying to see the grin on his face.
"Hey! A prisoner is escaping!" A guard yelled from a distance.
You quickly snapped back into reality, realizing the danger that lurked outside the cell.
As the guard's shout echoed through the corridor, the sound of heavy boots hitting the ground grew louder, reverberating against the cold stone walls. Each thud seemed to send shockwaves of fear through your body, reminding you of the urgent need to escape and the perilous journey that lay ahead.
"Just don't let go and let me do the rest," you instructed Chopper, tucking him closer to your chest, as you both sprinted down the dimly lit corridor, adrenaline pumping through your veins.
Your ability was very useful since the basement was basically flooded.
As you ran through the flooded basement, you summoned your power, manipulating the water to rise and swirl around you. With a flick of your wrist, you sent powerful torrents crashing into the guards, knocking them off their feet and rendering them unconscious.
Water obeyed your every command, becoming a formidable weapon that cleared your path and thwarted anyone who dared to oppose you. . . .
Tumblr media
By the time you two had made it out of the base, you were battered and bruised just like Chopper, your bodies bearing the physical scars of the fierce battle you had fought.
You breathed hard, trying to catch the breath that was knocked out of you moments ago by the doorman. The adrenaline still coursing through your veins, you glanced at Chopper and saw a worried look in his eyes.
"Y/N? Are you okay?" He asked worriedly, looking back to see if anyone was following us.
You reassured him with a faint smile, your voice filled with determination, "I'm fine, Chopper. We made it out together, and I won't let anyone harm us."
As you staggered, each step feeling heavier than the last, you kept your eyes set on the sea shore, where your crew members would be waiting for you in worry.
What would they think of you? Will they be disappointed when they see you because you disobeyed your captain's orders? Will they kick you out of the crew? Will Zoro, Luffy's first mate, hate you?
As you struggled to stay on your feet, the waves crashing against the shore seemed to grow louder. Chopper's worried face blurred in and out of focus, and before you could answer his question, darkness enveloped you, and you succumbed to unconsciousness.
"Y/N! Y/N please get up! If we get to the ship, I can use my medicine to heal you so stay awake until then!" Chopper said, panicked.
"Please, mom," you heard the distress in his voice as Chopper pleaded for you to stay conscious.
The sound of his worry cut through the darkness that surrounded you, urging you to fight against the pull of unconsciousness and make it to the ship where he could treat your injuries. . . .

You know I was thinking, how will Luffy about turning 20 and 21? Because when he turns 20, he wont be younger than Ace anymore, and when he turns 21, he'll officially be older than he ever was. Similarly, how will Law feel about turning 27 and becoming older than how Corasan ever was? It's something that was in the back of my mind. I knew some people who lost certain loved ones who were older than them, and when they got older than them... it just felt wierd, that's how they describe it. Bittersweet some have told me.
(Sorry in advance if this makes you sad)
I would yell at you and be angry at how sad this thought makes me, but on the other hand, I just love angst a very insane amount, so this is exactly the type of thing I absolutely love.
I think that Luffy doesn't focus much on age. He focuses on birthdays, of course, I think he'd love birthdays (both for the food and the meaning behind it. I personally think he loves throwing big birthday parties for the crew members because he likes celebrating that they're alive and growing together. Especially when it comes to Robin, Sanji and Brook tbh). But I think he'd feel uneasy when somebody makes a comment about how old and tall he's getting. Like, Sabo would make an innocent comment like "You're growing up so fast, Luf!" and Jinbe (for example) would compare him to Ace the way everyone does, with a proud smile and saying "You look so much like your brother, captain! Might even get taller than him!". And Luffy laughs at that because he's supposedly over Ace's death. He should be. But after a long while thinking about it in the middle of the party, I think he'd start wondering about growing up and the fact that he's getting older than Ace. That Ace will never experience growing up with them. That Luffy never got to spend his last years together because they were apart living their own adventures. And, you know, the fact that he's already accepted his death doesn't mean it doesn't hurt to feel older than your older brother. I think Sabo would notice right away that something's wrong and ask what's going on. And Luffy would just say something like "Ace was twenty when I let him die" (he still has to fix the wording. It's a work in progress) and Sabo understands because now Sabo can't argue against Ace about who's the oldest. Now Sabo is the oldest. And Sabo would try to make things better by placing his arm around Luffy's shoulder and saying: "Well, if it makes you feel any better, just think about his face if he knew you might get older than him! He'd get soo pissed about it! [...] And he'd be so proud of you for growing up, Luf. He'd be so happy, with that big smirk of his and the dumb tilt of head, y'know?". And Sabo just has the right words to make Luffy feel better about growing taller and older than Ace, because he knows that if he's looking after him somewhere, he's smiling wide.
I think the Law thing is harder than this. Because for Law, growing up older than his own father makes him feel guilty. Survivor guilt complex type of shit, you know? He got out of there alive but Cora-san didn't and... And it's just fucked up and unfair and Law just fucking hates this specific birthday. Normally, he doesn't care much about growing up and his birthday, but he ends up having fun because it's just impossible not to do so when Shachi, Penguin, and Bepo always want to throw a party for him. But this time, when he realizes he's getting older than Cora, it hits him. Like a fucking truck. Because he doesn't feel mature enough. He doesn't feel like he has done enough stuff for Cora to be proud (which is stupid because Cora would be proud of him but, y'know, Law's thoughts). He doesn't feel like he deserves to grow up older than his own father. It'd be a hard thing to swallow, honestly. I think he wouldn't stop repeating the words "I love you" in his head, mixed with "Don't try to find a reason for somebody's love" over and over again, trying to make everything better. Because he knows he's acting stupid. But he just can't get over the fact that Cora was this young when he acted like a whole father to him. Law doesn't feel half as mature. But then Bepo (because he's just like that. Caring, loving, Bepo) says something about being glad Law is alive and with them, and it just shatters Law completely. I think Bepo would stay with him for a while in his room until Law just stands up and says something (very softly and trying to keep the waters calm, bc he knows how Bepo is) about throwing a little party. And I think that comment would make him feel a bit better, because Cora fought for him to be alive. He shouldn't waste the gift Cora gave him.

Roronoa Venus- Hungry Days 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
New Friends, and Past Humiliation
One day after school, Roronoa Zoro was pondering a thought over kendo practice. His fraternal twin sister, named Venus, was always lonely; not to mentioned bullied frequently. Other than him, and their parents, she had no one to fall back on. No one to hang out with her during lunch, or after school hours. It didn't help that she was almost cripplingly shy; she had been for as long as he can remember, so he always protected her. Bullies mockingly called him her bodyguard in times like this, but he couldn't care less.
He himself had friends; Franky, Robin, Brook, Nami, boy genius Chopper, Usopp, and the group leader Luffy. Plus Sanji, to an extent... he shook his head in irritation at the blond Casanova wannabe. He didn't know them for that long, but they were all good people... even if Sanji was overeager with every pretty girl in school. What if Venus could join their little circle? Surely they would accept her; and she would finally have friends.
Huffing in fatigue, he set the bamboo shinai on its hooks hung on his bedroom door, and walked down the upstairs hallway to the room next to his. After a minute of waiting, the music from her electric violin had slowed a stop, before he heard her set it down. "Venus?" He knocked on the black-painted door. "Can I talk to you about something?
"Sure, come on in." He opened up, and lingered at the doorway. "What's up?"
One thing to know about his sister: She was a Goth girl. A "Mall Goth", to be precise. They both had queen-size beds with storage drawers, and black exteriors, but hers had a black dress-like canopy hung above the cushioned headboard, over an arch-shaped decal featuring the night sky with a full moon, so it wasn't hidden by the black wall. The window seat, and the small black tent, which was printed with white bats, were littered with small pillows, and stuffies, as was her bed around where her head laid. There were large moon and star shaped lights dangling front of the window, and alongside various cosmetics, her vanity had 4 different jewelry holders, one for more than just earrings. There was also a black and purple jewelry box with multiple sections for rings, bracelets, chokers, and... tragus earrings.
Now, she didn't have either of them pierced, but she planned on having the left done on their 18th birthday. What possessed her to have such a crazy idea, he still couldn't comprehend, but he didn't want to stop her. After all, it was her decision, and their parents approved of the idea when it was first pitched. And he supposed it was better than her actual face; their parents would each have an aneurysm if she came home with a ring in her septum.
"Well, tomorrow after homework, my friends and I are going to the mall for... stuff."
She nodded, while sitting on her bed. "Okay, hope you have fun-"
"Wait," He cut her off, "Do you want to come, Venus?"
Her eyebrows raised in genuine surprise under her green, asymmetrical bangs. "Really? Me?"
"Is there anyone else here named Venus?" He smirked coyly, earning a playful eye roll from her. "There's two girls in my group; you can shop around with them, and you could find some friends in all of them. You did just get paid, didn't you? And you're off tomorrow?"
"Y-yeah," She replied, "I did, and I am." In the same mall, she worked at a shop specializing in the Goth lifestyle, mostly stuff that was wearable, but with the occasional home decor, and some items revolving around witchcraft such as crystals. Basically, it was her dream job, despite it being only part-time, and even with occasional rude customers, she loved it there. "You really want me to come?"
"Yeah, if you want."
"But... what if they won't like me?"
"They will. Trust me; you'll fit right in."
After a moment of silence, she nodded, as a smile grew. "I'd love to."
"Okay. You can meet them during lunch before we go."
"Deal. Do they already know I'm coming?"
"Yeah, I texted them earlier, in our group chat. They're all good with it, as long as you're wanting to come. And they're eager to meet you."
"Awesome; feeling's mutual."
-
The next day, as the hours ticked by, Venus felt excited, yet nervous at the same time. She was going to not only meet Zoro's friends, but also hang out with them! But... what if they actually didn't like her, despite his assurance? What if they thought she was too strange? Or quiet? She never fit in anywhere, especially here at school; despite the love she received, she felt like the black sheep even in her family.
Before long, lunchtime came. Time to meet the friends. As she walked to the cafeteria with Zoro, her heart beat faster in her chest. He noticed her troubled expression, and her hands being more fidgety than usual. "You okay?" He asked.
"Yeah, I'm... just nervous."
"You'll be fine. They'll like you; I know it." They joined the line in the room, him watching for any bullies on the prowl. His heart boiled with fury at a certain, lilac-haired boy waving tauntingly at her; Zoro wished he could whack that smug grin off his insufferable face, but him getting detention wouldn't help her. When his turn was up, he looked over the pre-watered Nissin Cup Noodles available, while grabbing a Smokey & Spicy Sio for himself. "Looks like there's no chicken ones here, V."
"Yeah, sorry hon," Carmen, the flamboyant cafeteria lady, frowned apologetically. She was also the school's dance instructor, and had some boys, and girls, drooling with her fiery reddish-pink hair, purple eyes, and overall gorgeous looks.
"It's okay," Venus assured, and looked over the selections, "Hmm... I'll try this one. Thanks." She grabbed one of the mild curry cups, along with a pair of chopsticks, before paying for her meal, and following Zoro to the tables.
"There they are," He gestured to a particular one occupied by a certain group, and she looked nervous again, "They'll like you." Keeping an arm around her shoulders, he led her around the other tables, saving her from being tripped when passing one of the bullies. He also saved her noodles from being spilled, and her chopsticks from being dropped. "Damn bastard," He grumbled in irritation, before approaching, and turning to the group he sought out. "Guys, this is my twin sister I told you about, Venus."
"H-hi," She stammered, mentally observing them all, as Zoro introduced them. They all had cup noodles like them, but for the most part, different flavors each. One of the girls, aptly named Robin, had black, shoulder-length hair with even bangs, and an olive skin tone, while the other, paler Nami, had an orange bob, and a pink sweater vest. Luffy had shaggy black hair, and along with his school uniform, wore a straw hat with a red band on his head, while Franky, who looked pretty buff, had light blue hair in a cowlick almost like Ace Ventura, a red Hawaiian shirt with green palm trees under his blazer, and a bandage across the bridge of his nose. Tall Brook had a puffy, black afro, round black shades, and seemed to be merely skin and bones. He seemed to be holding a violin case in his lap.
Sanji was... reaching towards her? "Well hello there, Venus." He took her free hand with a chivalrous look on his face, as she looked on awkwardly. "Who would've thought a twin of Marimo would be so lovely?"
"Uh-" She was about to respond, but Zoro pulled her hand back for her, before the blond could kiss it.
"Back off, curlybrow."
Sanji sneered at him, missing her smirk of awkward gratitude towards her brother. "We were having a moment there, kendo brain."
"Will you two stop already?" Nami scolded, before turning to Venus with a smile. "It's nice to finally meet you."
"Y-you guys too," She responded timidly.
"Anyway," Zoro gave Sanji one last sneer, before returning to the original topic for the final introduction, "And this here is Usopp."
"Hi, I-" Venus turned to him, just as he looked up to her from the table, and they made eye contact... and she couldn't turn away. "I, uh..." His mop of wavy, black curls; his tan complexion; his dark grey eyes; his cute, long nose. Blood rushed to her ivory cheeks, turning them pink; he was so handsome. Wait, what? "Um, I-I'm Venus. R-Roronoa Venus."
Usopp in turn, felt like he was looking at an angel, as he lowered his orange headphones to around his neck in a daze. What with her flowing, yet messy green hair, her ivory skin, and her dark green eye; she was beautiful. Her uniform stood out with her white shirt having a black bat collar, and her sweater vest being black with a small, white moon at the neckline. "N-nice to meet you. Um, please sit," He stammered, "Room for one more."
"Thanks." She sat down on the bench, directly across from him, with her brother next to her. She noticed his noodles cup, and giggled at its familiarity. "You got the curry too?"
"Oh yeah, it's my favorite. Yours?"
"Well um, I love the tasty chicken best, but they're out of it right now, so uh, I decided to try this one today." Through her reply, she stuck her chopsticks in, and began twirling some noodles.
"Well, you're going to love it."
Zoro glanced back and forth, as his sister exchanged smiles with one of his friends. What was going on here? Were they... in love with each other? That quickly? From what he remembered, last year, Venus vowed to never date again after a... humiliating incident. But it seemed she was now retracting that statement. "Mm!" Venus' hum of delight snapped him out of his thoughts. "It's great! I do love it!"
"It is, isn't it?" Usopp agreed. "The little kick really adds to it."
"Little kick?" She blinked in genuine confusion, surprising him.
He was also flustered on how her long lashes fluttered from the movements. "Y-yeah, there's a-"
"She has a high tolerance for spicy foods," Zoro explained after a bite of his lunch, "Sour foods too. If her meal came with a lemon slice, like to squeeze the juice out, after getting some on her fish or whatever, she'd eat it like it was an orange."
Nami couldn't help but stifle a laugh. She could imagine the shocked expressions from any witnesses around them during such a thing. Not to mention any waiters realizing the wedge was completely missing from their platter when cleaning up. "Really?"
"Y-yeah," Venus nodded after swallowing some noodles, " I've been able to for as long as I can remember."
"That's pretty impressive," Usopp complimented, "You do take the seeds out first, right?"
"Thanks," She smiled shyly, before hiding it with gulping from her soda bottle. "Oh yeah, I do. Y-you should've seen our parents' faces the first time," She snickered, and they all laughed after she demonstrated.
The rest of the period went smoothly; Venus fit in very well with Zoro's peer group, as she felt less and less nervous by the minute. Needless to say, she was definitely going out with them after school. And she couldn't wait! Once they were seated on the bus later, Venus started on her homework, with Zoro staying alert next to her. He helped her on occasion, and she was done just as their home was approaching.
"See you guys later!" Luffy waved, as the bus stopped at the Roronoa household first.
"See ya!" Venus waved back, blushing again when Usopp shot a smile at her. After smiling back, she went to follow Zoro out, only for another attempted tripping to be successful. She toppled face-down to the floor, with her violin case thumping on her back. "Oww!" Obnoxious rich brat Charlos laughed mockingly, bringing his leg back in front of his seat, as her knee lightly throbbed in pain.
"Hey, you bastard!" Usopp glared, as Zoro helped his sister to her feet. "You can't do that to her!"
"What'cha gonna do about it, Pinocchio?" Charlos taunted him in retortion without looking back, as his sister Shalria, equally horrible, laughed next to him.
"If I had a nickel every time I heard that one," An unfazed Usopp rolled his eyes, "I'd retire at 18. Now leave her alone!" He recoiled nervously with a squeak when the porky bully turned to him with an intimidating, challenging look, but kept his defiant glare, before relaxing when he looked ahead again.
Venus smiled at him again in silent gratitude, with him returning it, as she and Zoro exited the bus. Tera, the twins' mother, turned to them as they entered the house. "Hey, how was school?" She gasped lightly in concern, and rushed to her daughter, as they stepped out of their shoes. She had a scrape on her right knee above her black uniform sock, that was an angry red, and starting to bleed a little. "Oh, Venus. Shalria tripped you again?"
She shook her head. "Charlos, on the bus."
Tera sighed deeply. "When will the principal ever do anything? You better patch that up, dear, before you bleed out."
"I will," Venus nodded, "I'll do that right now. M-my homework's already done." She rushed to the upstairs bathroom.
Zoro watched her go, before huffing in exasperation, running his hand on his short, green hair. "That damn Rosward won't keep them in line, no matter how many complaints I send his way. They get no more than a slap on the wrist; not even detention."
"Unbelievable," Tera frowned, "Something needs to be done."
"Agreed." He glanced up at the stairwell, as he heard Venus go into her room, gingerly closing the door. It was soon followed by her violin music. "So, after homework, my friends and I are going to the mall. Venus hit it off with them at lunch, so she's coming with us."
"That's wonderful!" She smiled joyfully. "I bet you'll have a great time."
"Yeah, and uh, lunch went pretty... interestingly."
"What do you mean?"
"You remember Usopp? Long nose, black curls?"
"Yeah, I remember him. He's a nice boy; what about him?"
"Well... it seems like Venus now has a crush on him." Tera's eyebrows raised in surprise. "And he her; like, when they were first introduced."
"Really? Aww, love at first sight!" She gushed. "Is she going to date him?"
"It's hard to say. I mean last year, she said she'd never date again, but I guess we'll see how today goes. I trust Usopp with her; I just dread something happening, that breaks her heart."
"That's understandable, honey. You're a good brother, looking out for her."
"Thanks, Mom. I do my best." Zoro glanced at the stairwell again. "I'd better get my homework done, and some kendo practice in before we go."
"Alright. But don't push yourself too hard in kendo; just because you can't defeat that Mihawk fellow, doesn't mean you're not amazing at it."
"Thanks, will do." He walked upstairs without another word.
Tera sighed to herself, as she watched him go. She wished he wouldn't push himself so hard; he was hospitalized for exhaustion recently, and had to have his shinai hidden, in order to make him take it easy. Venus was frantic, even having the idea of hiding it, and did everything she could to help.
She didn't want anything like that happening again.
-
After some practicing, she set her violin down in its coffin-shaped case, and began searching through her vast amount of clothes for something to wear later. This was the first time in years, if not ever, that she had friends to hang out with; she wanted to make a good impression. Especially on... Usopp? Yeah, that was it. She smiled, as her mind wandered; through the short time she'd known him so far, he was so sweet. Not to mention fun to talk with.
After snapping out of it, she stripped out of her school uniform, and for a start, pulled on her black fishnet tights with moons and stars accented all over. She scoured through her dominantly dark-colored wardrobe, before deciding on a black sleeveless dress with a pleather batwing collar, ditching the plain black belt in favor of one with a silver dual-rose buckle. In her hair, she shifted a black thin headband lined with five bows, before adding in ghost flower earrings that dangled with a light, delightful clinking. Noticing the oncoming, beautiful gloominess outside, she grabbed, and pulled on a black hoodie printed with clouds, some having fangs and lightning bolts. Under her tights was a bandage shaped like a Goth Milk carton to cover her small wound.
"Oi, Venus! Are you ready yet?! It's been almost 10 minutes!"
"Yeah, I'm coming!" She grabbed her spiderweb heart purse, lavender shopper tote, and black and purple batwing umbrella, threw her door open, and ran downstairs, oblivious to him tensing up at the latter. "I'm ready!" Zoro waited by the door, as she slipped her feet in a pair of black flats with shiny leather pumpkin faces in a darker black. He himself was in his usual black pants and shoes, with a yellow zip-up t-shirt.
"Mom, we're leaving!" He called out.
"Okay! Have fun, you two! Text me when you're getting home, so I can start on dinner!"
"We will!" Venus promised, before following him out to the public bus. "I'm excited."
"That's good. I told you they would like you."
"Yeah," She snickered, "You did. They're all really nice; though Sanji's kinda strange."
Zoro snorted with an eyeroll. "Do not look behind that curtain, I'm warning you. I'm just glad you like Usopp instead of that dumbass."
"Huh? W-what're you-"
"Venus, we're siblings." He cut her off, not buying her oblivious façade. "Twins at that; I can practically read your mind. And I saw it in your face."
She giggled, and pushed his hand away when he prodded at the side of her head. "Yeah, but... yeah," She caved, and shyly fiddled with one of her earrings, "He's just so sweet, and handsome."
"Well, I trust him, but I'm saying this because you're my sister... just be careful. Remember what happened last year; I don't want you going through that again."
"I know," She nodded, "But I have a good feeling."
Before he could respond, the bus stopped outside the mall, prompting them to disembark. Zoro held his much-shorter-than-him twin's hand to help her off the step without falling on her face, before checking the most recent text from the group leader. "Luffy said they'll be just inside this entrance."
"'Kay." With that, they began walking. In her peripherals, she caught him mindlessly wandering away, and yanked him back on the right path with a stifled snicker. "Going somewhere?"
"Shut up."
She giggled, as they walked through the automatic doors. She may have less emotional maturity between the two of them, but she had always been better with directions.
Less than a minute after entering, they found the familiar group standing close by, waiting on them by a large, digital directory. "Hey, guys!" Luffy called out with an enthusiastic wave of his hand. "Over here!" Venus brightened up upon noticing them, and made a beeline.
Now that they were out of their school uniforms, their real styles showed, and they their personalities quite nicely. Luffy was in blue denim Bermuda shorts, a red tank top, and a pair of brown flip-flops, along with what seemed to be his signature hat. Sanji was in a dark blue t-shirt with the word "Gentlecook" in lighter blue font, black jeans, and black Vans shoes. Franky was in his red Hawaiian shirt from school, dark blue knee-length shorts, and grey sandals. Brook stood out in particular, with his light pink skinny jeans with studs along the front pockets, brown loafers, blue and white striped t-shirt with "Summer Body" along the front in darker blue, and a large, cotton candy tie dye sunhat over his afro.
Robin was in a white button-up shirt-dress accented with purple specks, black shiny knee-high boots, and a black pleather jacket. Nami wore dark blue Bermuda shorts, brown strappy sandals, and a green tank top with darker green flower silhouettes.
She blushed at Usopp, specifically; he was in a white t-shirt, blue jeans with a lighter-hued belt, and patches on the knees, brown combat boots, and a thin, light purple button-up over it all, with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. "H-hi, Usopp," She stammered after walking up to him, avoiding eye contact. Crap, she was nervous again. Why did he have to be so cute?
"Hey, Venus," He greeted her in return, struggling to keep his composure himself, "Y-you look great." More than great; she looked adorable. But he was scared of being too straightforward, remembering how Zoro told all of them about her shyness.
"Thanks," Her cheeks flushed even deeper, "So do you."
Nami smiled widely to herself while watching them; something was definitely happening. "Okay, so where to first?" Robin asked around.
As they wandered, and shopped, Venus bonded even more with the group. At certain places, she stuck by Nami and Robin, while the boys did their own thing across from the shop. "So, Venus," Nami turned to the shorter girl, prompting her to look down at her hands browsing necklaces, "You and Usopp are getting pret-ty cozy there."
"W-what?"
"You have a crush on Usopp."
"N-no," She fibbed.
Nami tilted her head with a look of skepticism. "Venus, I may have only met you today, but I can already tell; you're a terrible liar."
Venus was silent, as she moved on to hair accessories. "It's nothing to be embarrassed about," Robin assured, "You've had crushes before, right?"
She was briefly hesitant, thinking about the previous year. "Yeah, but this time feels... different. Although..." She trailed off.
"Although?" Robin repeated with motherly patience.
"I'm... scared to date again. Since last year; I don't want to talk about it."
"And you don't have to," The raven-haired girl said, "But Usopp is very sweet. He would never hurt anyone. And besides... he seems to be quite fond of you."
Venus looked up at her with surprise, though her gaze stayed downward after a split second of eye contact. "Really?"
-
"So, Usopp," Zoro approached his long-nosed friend, who was trying to pick out a game to try out next, "You seem to be getting quite close with Venus, huh?"
He was startled out of his internal debate by the sudden query. "Oh, uh... y-yeah?"
Zoro snorted at his wariness. "Chill out, I'm not gonna kill you."
"Oh good," He chuckled nervously, "Sorry, Zoro. It's just when I first saw her, standing in front of me... I couldn't look away." He sighed with a headshake. "She's so cute, and pretty. And very sweet."
"I'm glad you think so."
"Has she dated before?"
Zoro sighed in hesitation. "She has, and I won't go into details for her sake, but they were... never good."
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that," Usopp's heart swelled with sympathy. Who would have the nerve to hurt someone as kind and meek as Venus? She seemed like she wouldn't hurt a fly. "I won't pry, but she doesn't deserve that treatment. And I promise I would never do that to her. I'd treat her the way she deserves; like a princess."
Zoro smiled just a little. "Thanks, man. I trust you."
"No prob," Usopp nodded with a returning smile, before turning back to the two games in his hands, and holding them up for him to see the covers. "Which of these should I get?"
"Found it!" Chopper cheered, holding up the newest Super Mario game in victory.
-
A few minutes later, the teens regrouped after finishing up. Venus walked straight to Usopp, while he also did for her; it didn't go unnoticed by the others, as they smiled to themselves, and each other. "Can we go down that way?" She pointed to the left-side walkway.
"Sure," Nami agreed, and they headed in said direction. Zoro smirked to himself; he knew the reason behind her request, but kept quiet, so she could explain it herself. "What's down here?"
Venus pointed to a sign straight ahead. It featured the shop's name in a stylized font in black, with a dark blue witch hat bearing constellations on the first M, while the last O was a crescent moon. "You uh, you guys see that shop there, Modern Majo?"
"Yeah," Robin nodded.
"That's where I work."
Nami's eyebrows raised in surprise. "Really?"
"Yep, part-time at least. It's independently owned too. At times, there's um, some rude people coming in like you'd expect, but my boss is amazing, as is the shop itself. Can we, uh-"
"Yeah, we can go in," Franky replied, "Seems like a bit of Robin's speed."
-
The shop was... quite interesting. Not only did it have apparel, jewelry (those for body piercings included), hair accessories, and home trinkets, all in a Gothic style, it also had items commonly associated with witchcraft. The table near the entrance had crystals, tarot cards, and cauldrons. Her boss, Toribia Hekate, was delighted that her kind-hearted, yet lonely and introverted worker had friends; and like them, saw how Usopp looked at the girl.
They witnessed her barking at a particularly ill-mannered customer, effectively scaring him off, and heard sad stories from both her and Venus, about the latter receiving verbal abuse. More often than not, they had happy endings, but their hearts ached for her; especially Usopp's, and Zoro's, although the latter had already heard them all.
They soon left with Robin carrying a small bag, while Venus had one much bigger. Not only was she a hard-working employee there, she may be its best customer as well. "So um, what'd you guys think?"
"Cool place," Robin replied with a smile.
"Yeah, it is," Nami agreed, "I mean, it's not my style, but it's definitely yours; and it's great that you work at a place you love like that."
"Thanks."
Usopp was blushing, as he glanced around mindlessly; before they left, Hekate had pulled him aside by the fitting room, which had a huge, heavy curtain in place of two walls around two large mirrors, for a little, private chat. The short, yet intimidating old woman extracted a promise from him to be good to Venus, which he vowed to inact one day. She deserved all the love; and he wanted to give it to her.
When they passed by a quaint little bakery selling an extensive array of small desserts, he had an idea; he turned to Venus, hoping he won't make her nervous with his offer. "Um, can I buy you a little treat?"
She glanced over behind him, and nodded with a smile. "Sure, thanks!"
"Since you're buying-"
"No," Usopp cut Luffy off, "I only have enough for Venus, and me." With that little fib, he escorted her inside to the back of the short line. While it was just two of them, he couldn't help but notice; she was short. The top of her head had just barely touched the bottom of his chin. That just made her all the more adorable to him.
As a disappointed Luffy pouted, Zoro looked on in bafflement. "What's happening?"
"Oh, I'll tell you what's happening," Nami grinned widely, "They like each other!" She almost squealed.
"Like each other how?" Chopper asked innocently.
Robin patted his shoulder with a motherly smile. "You'll understand when you're older."
"Well yeah, but... th-that fast?" He stammered. "They only met just today."
"Dude, he's smoother with her than Sanji is with every girl in school," Franky laughed.
"Shut up!"
Zoro couldn't help but snicker at the embarrassed blond's expense. "Ah, keep sucking your candy." He turned his attention back to the others. "I don't know, I do trust him; I just don't want her to get hurt... again."
Robin frowned with sympathy. "We get it. You want to protect her; you're a good brother for that."
He smiled a little, as he remembered his mother telling him that same thing earlier that day. "Thanks. She hasn't had any good dating experience, so I worry every time." He didn't want to bring up the particular incident from last year; she could tell them when she was ready.
In the bakery, Usopp and Venus' turn in line came up. "What can I get you, young man?" The guy greeted.
"Hmm..." He looked over the individual cake slices, that almost made him drool, "I'll have the cookie dough kind."
"Mm." He smiled at Venus' hum of delight.
"And for the lady?"
"Um," She followed his lead, before perking up at spotting one of her favorite kinds. One she and Zoro commonly chose together. "T-the Oreo one, please."
"Coming right up." Venus licked her lips, as he promptly paid. "Name?"
"Usopp."
"Alright, once they're ready, I'll call you lovebirds over."
They both blushed deeply at that, before they nodded. "We-we're uh, just friends," Usopp reluctantly stammered, and she nodded with a sheepish grin, "Thanks." After each grabbing a spoon, they had a seat at a vacant table to wait. 'I wish we were more, though,' He thought to himself. Little did he know, she was thinking the same, almost word by word.
"Um," He turned to Venus when she spoke up, "Zoro and I would come here with our parents whenever we had an accomplishment of some kind."
"Oh yeah?"
"Yep. Like if we aced a test, Zoro won a kendo tournament, or whatever. I've won a talent show or two, which also brings us here."
"Ah." He had actually never attended any of the shows himself. None of the group did; except Zoro, that is. "What's your talent?"
"I play an electric violin."
"Oh yeah, Zoro brought that up once or twice," He recalled, "That's really cool."
"Thanks."
"Maybe someday, I can come over, and you can practice for me."
She smiled at the idea; that sounded great to her. "I'd like that." She hoped he wouldn't be put off by how her bedroom was decorated, and/or think of her as a weirdo.
He noticed her change of face, and frowned with concern. "You sure?" He must've been too forward there.
"Oh yeah, I'm sure," She replied, "I'm just worried you'll, um..." He waited patiently for her to find the proper wording. "You'll think I'm weird. 'Cause I'm a..."
"Goth?" He smiled warmly, making her blush deeper. "Yeah, Zoro mentioned that too. Plus I saw it in how you dress." His heart fluttered at her looking down at the table, fiddling with her hoodie drawstring. She was so cute; he wanted to hug her, but that would definitely be going too fast at the moment. "It's okay; I really like it on you."
"Oh, t-thanks." She gave a cheerful, teeth-baring grin. "You'll love my room, then," She giggled, and laughed with him.
"I bet I will."
"Usopp?"
"That's us." He stood back up, and as she followed his lead, he took her hand without thinking. She noticed just after she was on her feet; they blushed red, before they both drew back slowly with awkward grins. Little too soon. After getting their respective slices, they left the shop, and rejoined their friends. "We're back."
"We see that," Brook teased, "You treating your new girlfriend?" He laughed with a kind that sounded like a classic pirate, only more joyful.
Usopp rolled his eyes, as Venus giggled awkwardly, taking the clear top off her plastic platter. "I just met her earlier today, y'know. We all did, except Zoro."
Zoro looked over, and stifled a grin at Sanji's dark scowl. "Envy's not a good look on you."
"Shut up, Marimo."
"Mmm, so good!" Venus beamed, interrupting the tense moment. "Like always." She smiled up at Usopp, who began eating his own. "Um, thanks for buying."
"You're welcome."
Nami smirked at them, as they enjoyed their slices. "Trying to mock us there, huh?" She joked. "Treating her, and not the rest of us, Mr. Favorites-Player."
Usopp snickered. "Well forgive me for wanting to do something nice for a special girl," He retorted with a smirk.
Special girl? Venus felt like her cheeks were on fire, as she kept her gaze on her platter. He was so sweet; she wanted to tackle him in a big hug, but was much too timid for such a bold move. Not to mention his cake would wind up on the floor, and she certainly didn't want that.
Zoro raised a brow in her direction, before smirking at her flustered state. She's got it bad for his friend; wait until their parents hear about this.
Before long, the great day came to an inevitable end. "Um, t-thanks for letting me join you guys," Venus stammered, "This was really fun."
"You're welcome!" Luffy beamed. "You can hang out with us all the time! I like you!"
She giggled, as everyone agreed. "Thanks. I'd love that."
"Want me to drive you guys home?" Franky offered.
"You sure I'll fit?" Venus asked nervously.
"Oh yeah," He assured, "Room for one more, half-pint."
"Franky drives a vintage VW bus," Robin explained, "He fixed it up himself."
"Ah, cool!" Venus grinned. "Thanks, that sounds great!" She stepped inside to the back seats with Zoro, and admired the interior, as he shot a text to Tera. When Robin said Franky fixed it up, she wasn't kidding around; the seat was so comfortable, and it had the features of a modern vehicle, while appearing vintage on the outside. It was amazing.
"Go on, Usopp," Nami teased when he hesitated to follow his new crush's lead.
"Yeah, yeah," He snickered, "Don't nag me." After his jest, he climbed inside, and sat next to Venus, before he had to squeeze into her, so Chopper could fit by the window. She smiled up at him, as she held her shopping bags just above her feet.
Once everyone was inside, Franky started driving around the town, to drop them off at their respective homes. Nami was first; outside of her house was a tan-skinned young woman with short, light blue hair, standing by the front door to greet her. Chopper was next, with his adoptive mother, school nurse Kureha, waiting on him. When Sanji was about to leave, his attempt at a chivalrous farewell to Venus was interrupted by Zoro and Usopp, to her relief. "Thanks guys," She giggled.
Her heart sunk a little when Usopp unbuckled himself; she wasn't quite ready to depart just yet. "I-I'll see you in school," She stammered, so he stopped outside the bus.
"And I'll see you," He gave her a kind smile, before walking to his house, and entering.
Venus smiled dreamily, as she watched him leave. "Alright twins, should be you next," Franky announced, after he started driving again.
"'Kay," She nodded.
"You have fun today, kid?" He asked her.
"Absolutely," She replied, "I can't wait to hang out with you guys again. I like you all."
"Especially Usopp, right?"
She rolled her eyes with a smirk through his chuckles. "Yeah, I walked into that one." Before long, Franky stopped outside the familiar house. "Thanks for driving us," She almost stumbled out on the sidewalk, though stayed on her feet, with Zoro following more smoothly.
"No prob! See you guys tomorrow!"
"You too, Frank," Zoro called out, before heading to the door with her up ahead.
-
Later that evening, the day's events were brought up over an onigiri dinner. "Venus, did you have fun with Zoro's friends today?" Tera asked.
"I definitely did," She nodded after a bite, "They want me to hang out with them again."
"She fit right in," Zoro added.
"I'm glad to hear that," Arashi remarked.
"And Venus has more than a little crush now, on one of them," Zoro smirked, snickering at her blushing cheeks.
"Oh really?" Arashi said in surprise. "Which one?"
"U-Usopp," She shyly mumbled behind her water glass, before shaking it off, "And I heard that he likes me back. Or he could."
"That's great, dear, but please be careful," Tera gently warned, "We don't want you getting hurt again."
"I understand," Venus nodded, before sighing sadly, "I don't want to go through that again."
~
-Last Year-
"I got asked to the prom!" Venus announced the second she entered the house after school.
Zoro lowered his shintai, and exited his room in curiosity. "By who?"
"His name's Spandam! He said that he likes me, and wants to be my prom date! Of course, I said yes!"
"That's great, honey!" Tera beamed. "I'm sure you'll have a great time!"
Zoro squinted his eyes over the excitement, staying quiet. He couldn't help but feel suspicious; Spandam didn't exactly have the best reputation in the school. He decided to keep it to himself, in fear of ruining his sister's joy. Maybe it could work out...
If only he knew how wrong that preposition was.
After changing to look their best, the two headed for the school, with their parents driving. "Have fun, you two!" Tera called out when they exited the car.
"We will," Zoro called back, and they entered the building. He followed Venus along the decorated halls, until they reached the gymnasium, where the event was currently kicking off. "Want to wait for him here?"
"Yeah," She nodded, "I'll be alright on my own."
That didn't help his suspicions at all. "If you say so. I'll be with my friends."
"'Kay, have fun."
"You too." With that, he wandered off, and miraculously located his newfound friends by the punch bowl, where she happened to be out of their sights.
"Surprised you found us that fast, Moss-head," Sanji smirked.
"Shut up, moron," Zoro dismissed the annoying blond; he was more focused on keeping his ears open, for any sounds of distress from Venus.
Meanwhile, she lingered at the entrance, blissfully unaware of the devious plot she would soon be apart of, front and center. Behind her back hid her so-called "date", looking down at her with evil intentions, while gripping a large pot. Time to put the plan into action...
Venus stood with a small smile, looking for a familiar head of lavender hair, when... it happened. She gasped sharply with a shriek at a disgusting-smelling, off-white, curdled substance raining down on her from the ceiling, leaving her drenched. She panted heavily, tears welling up, and not just from the odor, as certain students broke out into laughter. The substance slid down her hair, arms, and legs, and stained her black dress nearly beyond recognition.
Zoro turned sharply at the commotion. "What happened?" Usopp went to look, but his vision was blocked by some large athletes around all of them. Even Brook and Franky couldn't see.
"I don't know," Zoro sneered behind his back. Though he had a feeling that he did know.
Spandam leaped over in front of her with great clumsiness, but quickly regained his composure, towering over her, as he laughed mockingly. "This is what you get, little freak! You really thought anyone would want to be your date anywhere, much less the prom?! Ha! Have fun stinking up the place!" With that, he joined the other bullies in enjoying her misery.
"That's an improvement!" A portly boy named Hordy Jones guffawed.
Zoro pushed past the burly athletes, and just barely saw Venus running out of the room with her face hidden by her hands. "Guys, I gotta go, now."
"But you just got here-"
"I gotta go!" He snapped, interrupting Luffy, before making a mad dash after her. "Venus!" 'What did that bastard do to her?!' He thought furiously. 'I'll kill him!' He saw her disappear into the girls' room, and quickly followed. "Venus?" He held his nose at the terrible smell, as she hid in the handicap stall, leaving it unlocked. The hell was that? She never had it before; unless... Spandam. "V?" He peeked in, and she was sitting on the toilet, sobbing into her hands. "You okay?" He knew it was a stupid question, but he didn't know what else to say. Her only response was a head shake, which sent some gross lumps sliding from her hair, and splattering on the floor. "What did that bastard do?"
He waited patiently for her to calm herself enough to answer. "He... d-dumped some... sour milk on me."
That certainly explained the smell. Her fancy dress had to have been permanently ruined; nothing would get the stains, or odor out of it. "Go rinse yourself off in the girls' locker room. And throw out your dress; here's my jacket." He stripped it off, so he was in his matching black pants, and navy blue button-up printed with whirlpools.
"O-okay, thanks." She took it when he handed it over, and ran off.
In the boys' locker room, Zoro scrubbed off his sister's heeled shoes for her, boiling with rage. Rosward was going to hear from him; Spandam wasn't his offspring, so he would hopefully be punished for this. While cleaning, he called Arashi; he and Tera had to have been home by now, but they needed to come back. No way were they staying at the prom; not after what had just happened. "Dad, you and Mom need to get back here, now."
"Why, what happened?" Arashi sounded worried.
"I'll explain later. Just get here as soon as you can; we're not staying."
"Okay son, we're on our way." With that, he hung up.
In the girls' shower, tears fell down Venus' face. She should've known it was a set-up; who would want to associate with her? No one, that's who. She was just going to die alone. After finishing up, and putting on her undergarments, she pulled on, and buttoned up her brother's jacket, which almost reached her knees, and shoved her pungent dress in the garbage bin. She never wanted to see it again.
Zoro came back less than a minute later, with her now clean shoes on hand. "You better now?"
"I guess," She almost whispered, "T-thanks."
"I called Dad. He and Mom are on our way here." He set her blocky kitten heels on the floor.
"'Kay, good. I just want to go home." After stepping into her shoes, she took his hand, and walked the halls with him. His heart broke at her sniffles, and shuddering breath; she didn't want to cry at risk of other students hearing, and making her feel worse.
After a minute of waiting outside, a familiar car pulled up, and parked close by. Arashi and Tera jumped out immediately, concerned at their daughter wearing their son's jacket instead of her dress, with her hair out of its former braid crown. "Venus?" The second Arashi knelt in front of her, she collapsed into him, and sobbed in his shoulder. "Oh, baby." He held her close, and stroked her damp hair, as Tera rubbed her back. "What's that smell?"
"Sour milk," Zoro replied, his hands clenched his fists, "That bastard dumped it on her."
Tera gasped in shock. "He what?!"
"She had to rinse off in the locker room, and throw her dress away."
"Come on, let's go home, so you can have a proper shower." After Arashi kissed Venus' forehead, they all piled into the car, and took off. Venus sobbed in Zoro's neck and shoulder during the whole drive.
Once they were inside the house, she made a beeline for the bathroom. "I'm never dating anyone again!" She cried while running up the stairs, and grabbing her bat-print bathrobe.
The moment she disappeared into the bathroom, and the shower turned on, Zoro let his rage out. "I knew it, I freakin' knew it!" He dropped to his knees, and his fists pounded the coffee table. "I knew Spandam was bad news! I didn't want to say anything, because she was so excited, but now I know I should have!" His forehead dropped down between his hands. "Now she's humiliated, all because I-!"
"Zoro, it wasn't your fault!" Arashi cut him off. "It was that brat who caused this, not you."
"Yeah, please don't blame yourself, honey," Tera added, "Venus doesn't, I know it."
"Tell Rosward on Monday," Arashi suggested, "Something has to be done about this."
"Gladly." After several minutes, Venus emerged from the bathroom, now smelling like her lemon shampoo/conditioner; she went straight to her room, and shut the door without a word. "I'm gonna-"
"I think she should be alone for a while," Tera stopped him.
"Okay," He nodded after some hesitation, and walked into his own room. He shut the door, grabbed his shintai, and turned to the dummy he always practiced on. Out of nowhere, he imagined Spandam's smug face on the head, laughing tauntingly; seething with rage, he tore into the dummy with loud grunts and shouting battle cries, almost totaling it in seconds. How could he just humiliate his sister?! And with no shame?! She never did anything to deserve it! She was one of the sweetest, most harmless girls in the whole school! "YOU FILTHY BASTARD!" He screamed with fury over her sobs close by. Along with sword slashes, punches and kicks were added in. "HOW DARE YOU HURT MY SISTER!" Venus sat curled up in the small tent, her face buried in her knees, as her shoulders shook.
Minutes later, the dummy was destroyed, now in shambles scattered about. Zoro panted heavily, tears streaming down his cheeks; he put his shintai away before any other damage was done, and sat on his bed to calm down, with his head in his hands. He wanted to check on her, but he couldn't if he was shaking like this.
Once he was chilled out enough, he walked to her room, surprised to notice the door slightly open, and peeked inside. Venus was still sitting in the tent, but was now silent. "Sis?" He cautiously entered the room, and knelt in front of her. "You doing okay?"
She sniffled, and raised her head up. Her cheeks were blotchy, and stained from the tears, and her eye was red. "I guess."
He pulled her into a hug, which she accepted immediately, her head resting on his chest. "I had a feeling there was something... not right regarding Spandam." He sighed deeply. "I didn't say anything, because you were so excited about having a prom date."
"It's not your fault."
"I know, but I still-"
"You couldn't have seen it coming," She raised her head to look at him, "Neither of us did. It's all on him, not you."
Zoro didn't know how to respond, as he simply kept her close. He felt responsible, no matter what, although it couldn't be fixed. It happened, and it was over. But Spandam was going down for this; he would make sure of it.
After a few minutes, she had fallen asleep from emotional exhaustion, still clutching his shirt. He picked her up from the floor, and laid her down in her bed with one of her many blankets; after loosening her grip, and adding a stuffie under her one arm draped over her chest, he left her be.
~
Venus sighed heavily at the memories, before shaking it off. "I'll be careful, I promise."
"Good," Tera nodded.
Later that night, now in her pajamas, Venus laid on her bed, lost in her thoughts. She surely didn't want a repeat of last year, but... Usopp was so different from Spandam. He was nothing like that jerk; he was so sweet, and a lot of fun to be around. Heck, he treated her to a slice of cake after they knew each other for only a few hours! And he was a lot cuter too. No way would he ever mistreat her... right?
No, right. He wouldn't. He'd never.
She soon drifted off to sleep, with her new crush on her mind.
-
Elsewhere, while laying in his own bed, Usopp was thinking hard as well. About Venus, in particular; she was the sweetest, cutest, and most lovely girl he had ever known.
Over dinner, he recalled the day's events to his mother, Banchina, while swooning over the short Goth. She was over the moon at her son having such strong feelings for someone, and her heart broke at hearing how she was bullied in school.
He smiled, as he recollected the day's events; he knew buying Venus a little treat was a good idea. She was so happy, and seemed to enjoy it. He wanted to give her heart a break; show her she deserved all the love in the world, by giving it to her.
He remembered their private chat in the bakery; he really wanted to hear her practice her violin for him one day, hanging out one-on-one. He was eager to learn more about her. And meanwhile, she felt the same about him.
Neither could wait to see each other again at school tomorrow.

Reaction to the Nami Birthday Suit Filter.
Luffy : No way! Check out that birthday suit of a little lady.
Zoro : This is literally the most perverted I ever seen.
Brook : I can't believe my own eyes to look at it.
Chopper : That is one hot cat.
Sanji : I feeling like this is some kind of erection going on.
Robin : Hey, guys. Watcha watching?
Luffy : Oh, just minding our business. we're looking at cool nude filter of a hot chick who is literally swimming in the nude. Sanji got his nose bleed from a hot slender body in a birthday suit.
Sanji : It's true.
Robin : You realize that's the Glorious Special special that only appeared on smart phones, and what is this nude filter that is a hot lady in birthday suit and is very attractive.
Sanji : nothing much. I get nosebleeds and erection all the time, it's not my problem that had the nude filter going on.
Chopper : It's the first time that we ever seen someone swimming in a birthday suit before in the Glorious Island special.
Robin : Oh that's real funny. I bet nobody would find out that someone is naked while skinny dipping in a birthday suit. That's a real shame about going swimming with no clothes on.
Nami : What's this about swimming in a birthday suit? I just happened to swim in a bikini and then a birthday suit.
Robin : You only realize that someone or an asshole has made a nude filter in the Glorious Island special of someone skinny dipping with their Birthday Suit and I believe that was your bikini, before the jackass has used editing from before. Yep. I knew it.
Luffy : Oh, hey there, Nami!
(RECORD SCRATCH)
Luffy : (looks in confusion) Oh boy.
Nami : You were talking about me swimming with no clothes on, is that what you boys think of?
Zoro : Uhh, we can explain.
(scene flips)
Nami : Thanks again, Robin. I didn't realize that was me swimming in the waters with no clothes on, thank you for covering me that.
Robin : Well, what can I say. It's only from the special on the smart phones.
Nami : Yeah, you're right. I gotta make this clearly to understand about swimming in the waters with a birtday suit on instead of a bikini or a swimsuit. But it's clear cause it's okay, swimming in the waters in my birthday suit is A-OKAY!
Robin : You're right. I guarantee you. But what about the boys?
Nami : Oh, I know just thing that worked out for them. They gotta learn the consequences of their responsibility.
(the guys are showing drawing on the chalkboard after getting beaten by Nami. The words "I WILL NEVER MAKE NAMI SWIM IN THE NUDE" are shown)
Luffy : Oh, I can't believe this! This is really stupid!
Zoro : Tell me about it. This is worth of getting the agreement that we had. This is worse than I Imagined.
Chopper : Serves you right, d*ckheads.
Sanji : Well, I do say that Nami in the Nude filter in the nude was smoking hot
Brook : Hope we don't mind watching it again, do we?
Luffy : Sure thing!
Nami : Oi! Did i say that you could catch a break? I am disciplining you for watching a nude filter of me swimming in the waters with no clothes. Now I want all of you boys to get back to writing and think about what you've done!
The Boys : (Sighs, in a toned voice) Yes, Ma'am.
Nami : Good. This is worth the kind of punishment that I am giving you today. [To Robin] Yep. It was all too worth it.
Luffy : Hey, isn't the this thing where they do that in the opening? It's the same thing that the kid does.
Zoro : What kid?
Luffy : Him over there doing that. (points his thumb as the group looks at Bart writing on the chalkboard)
Bart : What? This is what I do in the opening.
Luffy : Mind giving it the Nude filter?
Bart : Eat my shorts.
Luffy : Worth a shot.

Law and Luffy celebrating their baby's first birthday. You know, like the rubber captain prefers it, whole island bonfire. Everybody showing up was invited by someone there. It's a great party. Even the marines showing up with Garp and Sengoku are just on edge but partying...because why would they even try when there are bounties there over a billion.
Luffy *holding his son* : I just don't know...Law said not to let anyone hold him. Especially if they don't have their shots.
Cavendish: Wtf?
Luffy: And you do seem like you're missing a vaccine or two.
-*-*-*-*-
Law: We weren't expecting you on showing up.
Kid: What do you mean 'we', that idiot you're married to sent my invite two months ago.
Law: Fuck, I didn't burn that one?
-*-*-*-*-
Nami: I'm sorry, but admittance into the party is 2 Million Beri if you're not on the guest list. And you're definitely not on it.
Caesar: YOU'RE NOT HOLDING A LIST!
Nami: Wouldn't you believe it, the price is now 4 Million.
-*-*-*-*-
Chopper and Bepo looking after the baby.
Chopper: Luffy said to not let anyone hold him.
Bepo: Captain said to stab them with a scalpel if they get within three feet.
Chopper: W-we can't do that!
Bepo: Not with that attitude! S-sorry for raising my voice.
Chopper: ...where'd the baby go?
-*-*-*-*-
Garp: He's going to be one hell of a marine.
Dragon: He will definitely be a great revolutionary captain.
Sengoku: I definitely see admiral potential in him.
Crocodile: Imagine that little squirt taking after me. He's a natural born leader.
Rocinante: Well I'm just happy he's not going to take after Doffy.
Doffy: Imagine him as the next Corazon.
Ace: Guys...he's slobbering over pieces of meat. He can barely crawl.
Sabo: Yeah! I was already stabbing royals by the time I was his age, his training starts tomorrow!
Ace *murmuring to baby* : Don't worry little one, they won't get to you, not while I'm around.
-*-*-*-*-
Marco *looking at the slobbering baby* : Hmm makes me want one of those.
Ace: You mean the meat right?
Marco: 😏
Ace: You mean the meat right?!!
-*-*-*-*-
Shanks: Come on anchor, let us take the squirt for a month or two.
Luffy: I don't see a problem with it, but his dad might have an aneurysm.
Law: If you even try to take him, yonko status be damned, I'll slice your fucking ship in two.
Shanks: But I'm the godfather!
Zoro, Sanji, Penguin, Shachi, and Jinbe: I'm sorry, what?!
-*-*-*-*-
Brook: I've composed a lullaby for the smallest crew member.
Robin: I've already made him two scrapbooks.
Usopp: I made him a crib that rocks by itself at soon as he starts crying.
Franky: I made him a laser! :D
Jinbe: Maybe, let's not give him that now...
-*-*-*-*-
Sanji: I didn't think this many people would show up for a birthday party. The kid can't even walk yet.
Zoro: As if you're not going nuts over him. I heard you narrating your cooking process to him while you were on babysitting duty.
Sanji: As if you're any better moss-head. You got him baby weights!
Zoro: He's gotta learn young.
Sanji: To lift weights?
Zoro: To not be a lil weak ass punk.
Sanji: He's one...
Zoro: And he hasn't done anything impressive as of yet.
Nami: Robin has a picture of you and the baby snuggling with his toys. You only got him those weights to act tough Zoro, but you're the most smitten with him after Luffy and Torao.
-*-*-*-*-
Luffy and the baby hiding up in a tree.
Luffy: pssst!
Law: Why are you two up there?
Luffy: Party got a little too loud for him. He's tired out.
Law: Hmm too many new faces.
Luffy: Yeah, he's getting asocial like his dad shishishishi.
Law: He punched Kid in the face. I've never loved him more.
Luffy: He flicked Buggy's nose. I wonder where he gets his energy from.
Law: Ahh, yes I wonder from where. Is your Sand-man here? [Yes I got that from Loving Luffy by @zombie-eats-world lol]
Luffy: He stopped by, got him a bananawani. I don't know if we can keep it though.
Law: Definitely not on my submarine. Doffy got him a damn flamingo pink onesie. It's atrociously cute.
Luffy *poking his son's tummy* : You just have too many people looking out for you.
Law: You're a menace, just like your papa.
Might add more later lol, feel free to add some in the comments or reblog! I always like to read what ya think!
LawLu Baby!
Just imagine their child. In the One Piece universe...with all those connections that baby would have.
The Strawhats, the Heart Pirates, Doffy Family, White Beard Pirates, Shanks crew, all those royals connected to Luffy, Marines connected to both Luffy and Law, and not to mention the damn revolutionaries. And those pirates who have become 'friends' with Luffy.
That child would be more connected than all the theories there are. And if Crocodile is Luffy's mom [I love that theory btw], then even more people to protect that child!!
Imagine that kids first birthday? The madness lol

April 21st
Well my drive down was nice and extremely reminiscent of all my previous drives. I got to Tech early, so I went off to Tabor to crack open a bottle of champagne and look at that view again. It was nice, but it wasn’t the same as when I used to live there. It made me miss Brooke and Robin, and just getting drunk until the next Owens shift.
I went down Whipple, just for old memories sake. It was super hot, and I didn’t fancy just drinking in my car, so I drove over to Connors. His apartment wasn’t much, but I guess it was in a good location. He’s really changed since I’ve last seen him. The depression has really hit him hard. He’s gained a ton of weight, and seems to be taking the Colin Scott way of graduating, where he drinks everything in sight and avoids responsibility. Anyway, around 2:30, I headed off to Owens like usual. I didn’t park up where I used to, but it was just down the ways. I wanted to go in the back dock entrance, but I wasn’t sure if I really could anymore, so I went in the front entrance.
Instantly that Owens smell hit my nostrils. I could hear the clatter of plates, and just for a minute I was taken back to every Sunday afternoon meeting that I came in for. Every midshift I decided to help out for. Every late night dismissal from Drew as Dereyk and I walked out. Once I got up to the managers station, I was bombarded by hugs and yelps. I honestly cant really remember who was all there, but I was touched all the same. Tony hugged me several times, which that moment alone is something I won’t forget in a hurry. He told me what had been going on, and then told me to go and change. I hadn’t seen Colin yet, but Tony had claimed, “He’s waiting for you back in plastic wash”. Even though I knew this wasn’t true, it brought me right back. I went into the bathroom and too a few more shots, but I was careful not to overdo it. I went back out and ended up talking to a few more before being told to go and cover Freshens. Strangely I thought that Monica would annoy me, as she was trying to be me, but she didn’t. I was a mess in Freshens, I mean it was my weakest shop to begin with, but they have changed everything around, and added a few more things. Still I was in there by myself and I had to make it work. Thinking back, it reminded me of a Saturday shift, where I didn’t really want to be in there, but I knew it wouldn’t be long. Lauren stopped by and couldn’t believe I was in Freshsens by myself after doing Potwash. I told her it was good to be back, and I guess it was. Tony had to leave early, even though he told me that he was going to stay until close that night. Unfortunately this meant that I was going to have to close with Drew. With no Dereyk to defend me. I teased Tony for leaving, for being pathetic and not finishing a shift, and he just laughed and hugged me again. I couldn’t believe how nice he and Lauren were being. I knew I was his fave.
Finally Drew came up and told me that I needed to back to my home, the reason I was here, to relieve Maryanne. Shawnee stopped by, despite being in the middle burying her Aunt, just to see me. I took a picture with them, so that I had some memory of the day. I was unbelievable touched, but once again, I couldn’t express myself. I went back to pasta and found that they had moved a few more things around, but I was in for the best surprise of the day. When I was back messing around in potwash like old times, I heard someone come in and yell, “NO WAY sis is that you?” I turned around and saw a beaming brother Will holding a pot. Turns out he had singed up for a steamer shift, which meant we were going to be spending the evening together like old times. Even typing this makes my heart swell. God I had missed him. It wasn’t a shift unless he and I were joking around with egg roll challenges, and teasing each other about our stupid made up childhoods. Even though it was amazing to be back with the regulars, I felt the lack of power. I was partially the “who the hell is this” girl. So with Will and I set to work Parm, I nestled myself in the middle for the sauces, and stood by to cover for Maryanne. Unfortunately, one person wasn’t enough for the record breaking line, so they sent in another FPS, and finally Colin Scott and I were reunited behind the counter of Pasta. I had only said one thing to him earlier, when he came through the carvery line, and had called him Blake. I did it because I knew that it would annoy him, but I left it at that.
The night passed pretty quickly from there, as we were kept pretty busy with the endless customers. Col and I hardly said a word to each other, something that I remarked as the time drew closer to 8pm. He finally said, “Well I only say long or short, so unless you want to take one of those as an insult...” and that was pretty much it, other than a shared chuckle over him messing up the pasta serving size. After that we parted ways, and didn’t say another thing to each other. Even though part of me still doesn’t believe it, I guess it honestly was to be expected. I feel like most of Owens was expecting it to be like old times, but it just wasn’t. I guess it was something new, some place that I didn't’ belong anymore.
They put me on fryer duties, which was hilarious as that’s the one student manager job i was terrible at. I seemed to do all right with Monica’s help and she filled me in on what had been going on at the big O. It was nice that her and Tristan were dating. I watched him chase her for a year, and it was so nice to see that it actually worked out. Their the new Colin and Amy, ones that won’t argue and hate each other at the end. I honestly didn’t have any beef with Colin, but when I got there early on, Micah told me that people had been teasing him that I was coming into town and his response was “I’m going to stay as far away from her as possible’. Basically the same shitty mood that we left on that day at D2 or that last night at Whipple. I don’t know why he hates me, but I guess he does.
I spent the rest of the night helping Monica close and sort of check out shops. It was nice that they let me go back and do my old jobs. Honestly, I didn’t do much work, but as everything was for free that night, I guess I don’t mind. At the end of the night, I had a weird conversation with Drew, who asked where I was going to stay the night, so glad to know that he’s still creepy. The plan was go with Monica and Tristan to Colin’s new place. All of Whipple was back in town and it seemed like it would be a lot of fun. But, there was a part of me that couldn’t get the notion that Colin wanted to stay as far away as possible from me. Yeah, it would have been nice to see the others, but I knew that Colin’s attitude would just wreck me because even though it’s been a year, I’m still pathetic. Colin’s leaving for Texas, which is something he should have done a year ago. He really was different at work. He was kind of his old self with Monica, which would have bugged the shit out of me if it weren’t for Tristan, but otherwise, he just wasn’t. He was subdued. He wasn’t the same happy person he was when he was student manager. Or last year. He probably doesn’t miss me. But he’s not the same. He’s lost the will power, which is good, otherwise he’d stay there for life, and even after everything else, I just want him to be happy.
Anyway, I couldn’t face it all again. I finally felt like Blacksburg was haunted for me. I needed to get away. Pete, Frank, and Sky were down for the weekend and celebrating Pete’s birthday but I was a million miles away. It was relay and Pete wasn’t phoning me to tell me to stop being charitable and come over and get drunk with everyone else. It was a Friday night, and I wasn’t trying to get over to Whipple to waste a few hours before my beloved Saturday morning shift (which he doesn’t have anymore). I wasn’t going to an Owens party to be that person who everyone knew and liked to talk to. I wasn’t going home to spend the evening with Bethany, Sarah, and Mike, watching an old movie and smoking, I wasn’t going to sit out on Whipple, as the warm spring air surrounded me, trying to grasp graduation, and basking in the “almost finished” air. All of that was gone, and it wasn’t coming back. I didn’t belong here anymore. Sure I could go over to Colin’s, be mad that he won’t talk to me, embarrass myself, fuck someone I didn’t really like, and head home feeling like a hoe bag to host prom, reminding myself that I’m still this desperate person who is dying for someone to love her.
So I resolved to drive to Maddy’s, as it was halfway to home, plus it meant that I would be able to spend part of Saturday with her, as that was something that I wanted to do that weekend anyway. It was a hell of a long drive, and I had to keep slapping myself to stay awake. Zack Russel called me at some point along the way, but I ignored it. I had already gone too far. I hadn’t said anything to Monica and Tristan, and just decided to leave. I got to Maddys around 1 and she had thankfully ordered some cookies, which tasted amazing, as I hadn’t eaten dinner, other than a lone breadstick. I thought I would get so much food, and I even got a meal pass, but everything closed up early.
I don’t know if I made the right choice. I don’t know if I’m going to regret it. It’s just the choice that I made.

UsoVe- Birthday Disaster
Summary: Venus' special surprise for her beloved boyfriend doesn't go as planned. Happy Birthday, Usopp!
Tumblr media
A soft, angelic humming floated from the kitchen, alongside a hint of a wafting, chocolatey scent. Tempeste G. Venus, the spellcaster of the Straw Hat Crew, was busy at work in the Thousand Sunny's downstairs kitchen. The calendar read April 1st. A very special day; specifically, her boyfriend Usopp's birthday! And she had a surprise planned for him; one that involved the risk of sneaking into the kitchen, without the crew's chef, Sanji, knowing about it. But it was a risk she was willing to take.
He was too busy celebrating with the others anyway to notice her. She was surprised he didn't have anything already; then again, he always prioritized the girls over the boys anyway. Even her, despite the fact that she was in a relationship with one of said boys.
"Done!" She beamed after pouring the chocolate cake mix into the cupcake liners in the pan. "Now for the moment of truth!" Once the oven was ready, she slid the pan inside, and eagerly shut the door. "And now, I wait."
"Hey, Venus-san~!" Brook called out. "The birthday boy's looking for you~!"
"Coming!" She called back, and glanced at the oven on her way to the stairs. 'I should only be a few minutes,' She thought, as she emerged out on the deck. An excuse could come later.
She spotted the man of the hour, smoothed out her skirt, and ran straight over, her gogo boots padding through the soft grass. He looked so handsome in his grey puffy pants, and black, red, green, and yellow tank top. His bee-striped cap was adorable under his goggles. "Heeey~!" She practically sang out, as her adorably messy, wrapped ponytail flew behind her.
Usopp turned, and brightened up at seeing his girlfriend joining them. "Hey, V! I was getting worried!"
She quickly pulled him into a firm hug of ecstasy. "Happy birthday!" She giggled.
"Thanks!" He held her close, and kissed the top of her head. "What held you up? Is everything okay?"
"Um... I couldn't decide what to wear," She replied with her pre-planned excuse.
"Ah. Well, you look perfect in everything."
"Thanks," She blushed, as he tucked her short, loose hair strands behind her ears. "So uh, what're we doing right now?"
As she joined in the festivities with the crew, things began to happen.
Bad things. Her "few minutes" turned into a few hours.
And had it not been for Chopper's keen nose, as they were sitting around chatting, she would have never known. "Hey, you guys smell something?" He asked around, and they all began sniffing the air.
"Hm?" Venus perked up with them. "Yeah, it's..." It smelled like something... burning. Her eye widened. Wait, burning?! The cupcakes! "Oh my God!" She scrambled to her feet, tore herself out of her boyfriend's arms, and made a hasty beeline, not noticing the others reacting.
"Venus?" Usopp ran after her with concern, his worry only increasing with her frantically muttering "No!" a hundred miles a minute. "Is everything okay?" She almost flew down into the kitchen, obliviously slamming the door shut behind her; before he could try following her down, he lunged back to avoid getting smacked in his long nose. "Venus?!"
Robin turned to Sanji, as the sniper disappeared after the young witch. "Did you start on something?"
"No I haven't, Robin-chwan. Not yet, anyway; it's a little too early for lunch."
"Whoa, it's smoking!" Luffy's eyes widened at the smoke billowing out of the open door, and the crew gathered outside, after Zoro whipped it away with a few slashes of his swords.
In the kitchen, Venus threw the oven open, coughing at the thick smoke, and thrusted the pan out of the heat. Panting heavily, she slammed it down on the table, and investigated her attempted creations. They were burnt to a crisp; hard as rocks, stuck in the now indistinctive liners, and far beyond edible. Tears welled up, and spilled out of her eye, turning into full-on sobs, as she dropped to her knees on the floor, and buried her face in her hands. Her plan had fallen into shambles; because she got distracted, her special surprise was completely ruined.
"Venus?" Shit! He knows! She heard him gasp, and quickly kneel down in front of her. "Venus! Oh my God, are you hurt?! Did you burn yourself?!"
"N-no," She choked out, "I..."
"What's that smell, V?" Usopp looked to the table, and saw the pan. "What are these?" After prodding at one of the burnt mounds, he looked down at his sobbing girlfriend in curiosity, and concern. "Venus? What were you doing in here?" He knelt down again, and held her shoulders. "What are those?"
"I..." She tried to respond, but her sobs overpowered her words, "I-I-I was... I-"
"Come here, V, come here." Usopp hugged her firmly, and rubbed her back. "Just calm down, and tell me what happened, okay? I got you, baby." As she cried in his shoulder, he gently shushed in her ear, and soothingly stroked her hair.
After almost a minute, Venus was calm enough to clearly explain. "Well," She sniffled, and wiped her eye. Thank goodness she had no makeup on. "I... I wanted to d-do something special f-for your birthday, so I, I wanted to bake some ch-chocolate cupcakes. I thought I would only b-be a few minutes, but... I lost track of the time, and it had b-been a few hours." More tears fell, and Usopp wiped them away, listening intently, as her cries started to worsen again. "I, I had something great planned, and I wrecked it!"
"Sweetie, it's-"
"I'M SUCH AN IDIOT!!!" She almost screamed.
"Venus, stop, please!" A heartbroken Usopp held her hands down from her face, as she sobbed harshly. If there was one thing he hated, it was his girlfriend putting herself down. "You're not an idiot, darling. Please don't talk about yourself like that. I-"
"Usopp!" Sanji raged, now fast-stomping down the stairs with Nami trying to hold him back. "What did you do?! How dare you make Venus-chwan cry!"
"Sanji, I didn't-"
"It was me!" Venus shouted through her tears. "He didn't do anything; it was me!"
Franky squeezed himself in. "What happened, little sis?"
"I, I was trying to make cupcakes for Usopp's b-birthday, and... th-they got burned, b-because I accidentally left them for hours!"
"What?! You used the kitchen by yourself?!" Nami exclaimed in shock. "Sanji-kun, did you know about this?"
"No."
The navigator turned back to the young witch, towering over her, and put her hands on her hips. "What were you thinking?!" She scolded, oblivious to Venus sobbing her heart out all over again. "Why would you use the kitchen alone, when you clearly weren't ready?! Now the kitchen's gonna smell like burnt chocolate for-!"
"NAMI, STOP!!!" Usopp screamed furiously, holding his girlfriend tightly. "JUST STOP IT!!!" His outburst turned the room completely silent, aside from Venus' heart-wrenching sobs, before he took a deep breath. "She gets it! It went wrong! She doesn't need you, or anyone yelling at her for it! Just back off, and leave her alone already!"
"Why don't we all wait outside?" Robin suggested, as Sanji escorted Nami to the stairs. "Let them talk alone." They all filed outside, with Robin helping Franky out in particular.
Usopp sighed, and cupped her head as she cried. "Don't let Nami get to you, baby. It's alright."
"B-but I-"
"Sweetheart, just the fact that you worked this hard to do something special for me..." His hand moved to her damp cheek. "I appreciate it so much. I appreciate you, always." She sniffled, though to his relief, she was more calm. "You're the best girlfriend anyone can ask for. It's okay to mess up; we all do it. But V..." He stayed as gentle as he could to avoid more sobs. "You should've asked Sanji to help you, if you wanted to do this. It could've been much worse; you could've hurt yourself."
"I know," She almost whispered, "I just wanted to do something myself."
"I understand, but there's nothing wrong with getting help. We're all a team, no matter what. If you want to try this again, ask Sanji for help; I know he'll be happy to do it. Maybe a little too happy." He smiled when she giggled at his last statement. That was what he hoped for. "There's that smile."
She blushed when he swept her long bangs back and kissed her cheek, where her old scar marked her skin. "I won't get swept up," She added on to his joke, making him chuckle. "But yeah, I'll ask Sanji for help."
"Good." He leaned in for a short kiss, his hand rested over her soft hair. "I look forward to it; take your time with it, V."
"Will do," She promised, and stood up with him, "Let's go back outside."
"Okay." Hand-in-hand, they exited the pungent kitchen, and emerged to the deck, where the others waited.
Venus noticed that Nami had a guilty look on her face, and shyly approached her. "Sorry I snapped at you."
"It's okay," She assured with a smile, then turned to the chef. "Hey, Sanji? I was, uh... hoping to try that again. Will you help me, please?"
"Of course, Venus-chwan~!" He practically glided over. "It would be my pleasure!" Usopp rolled his eyes with a smirk; he trusted him to not steal his girlfriend, but he still went a little overboard.
"Thanks." She turned to Usopp, pivoted on her toes, and they shared another kiss. "We'll just be 20 minutes, half hour tops."
"Okay, V. Like I said, take your time with it."
"Yep," She nodded.
"And thanks again; you really are the best." He kissed her forehead over her bangs.
She blushed bashfully, as her gaze fell to her shoes. "O-only the best for you." She looked back up when he stroked her cheek for a moment, wiping the last of her tears away, before joining the rest of the crew. "Just you wait, Soppi; it'll be the best treat ever!" She giggled, and eagerly bounded back to the kitchen. "Come on, Sanji!"
"Yes, Venus-chwan~!"
Usopp laughed, as the chef floated after her. "She really is the best. Now, where were we?"
"So what do we do about the smell?" Venus asked, waving her hand by her nose after catching the scent again.
"No worries; we'll keep the door open today, so it airs out. Would you like to make a cake this time around?"
"That'd be great," She replied, "The cupcake liners are totaled now."
"That's alright," He beamed, "Sit down, I'll clean off the spoon and mixing bowl."
"Oh, I'll clean one of-"
"Nonsense, Venus-chwan~! A lady shouldn't have to clean up! Here, look for my recipe while I clean them. I'll make our lunches while you frost later."
"Okay," She giggled, then sat at the table, and flipped through his cookbook, as he started scrubbing. She gingerly nudged the cupcake pan away out of embarrassment; she decided it'd be best to not cry anymore, or this redo would take even longer.
-
A little over a half hour later, they were waiting for the chef, and the witch to come out. "I hope everything's okay," Usopp remarked worriedly, "You guys don't think she's upset again, do you?"
"I doubt it," Zoro replied, "If she was, that idiot would be flipping out more than her. That can be spotted a mile away."
"True."
A few minutes later, he perked up at some footsteps leaving the kitchen. "Hey, birthday boy~!" Venus called out cheerfully. "It's done!"
He rushed over, and smiled brightly; as the crew readied the picnic blanket, she proudly held a flawless, sweet-smelling chocolate cake topped with chocolate frosting, and "Happy Birthday Usopp!" was written on the center in yellow icing. The writing was a bit sloppy, but he loved it that way a lot more than if it was like typewritten work. "Venus, it's perfect! Thank you!" After Sanji took the pan for her, carrying it and their lunches simultaneously, he pulled her into a firm hug. "I absolutely love it!"
"I'm glad you like it!" She happily returned the gesture. "I couldn't have done it without Sanji!"
"Always happy to help a sweet, lovely lady like you, Venus-chwan~."
"Chill out, Perv Cook," Zoro snarked.
"Huh?!"
"Don't start anything!" Nami ordered.
"Yes, Nami-swan~!"
Venus took the cake back, so the crew brought out plates, drinks, and silverware. "Sorry the first thing didn't work out."
"It's okay, baby. This looks amazing; you both did great."
"Thanks," She blushed, as he kissed her temple.
After a few minutes, everyone sat around the cake, as Sanji used his lighter on the two number candles. "There we go, birthday boy."
"Thanks!" Usopp leaned in, everyone watching in participation; when he blew them out, they all cheered enthusiastically, Venus hugging him from the side and kissing his cheek. "Let's eat!" Once the candles were out, Zoro cut the cake into perfectly even pieces. Before Sanji could prioritize the girls over the birthday boy, Venus quickly took over, and handed her boyfriend the first piece. "Thanks, V." She took a plate next, and while the rest were handed out, she snuggled up to him. She smiled wider when he moaned in delight. "Venus, it's so amazing."
"I'm glad," She giggled, and started on her own, "Sanji took care of getting it in the oven, but I did everything else myself."
"I'm very proud of you." He nuzzled his temple on hers, as Sanji argued with Zoro over whose piece was bigger. "You did great."
"Thanks, babe." She sipped her cola, and had another bite, "I think it turned out really good. Though the writing-"
"No nitpicking," He playfully scolded, "It's perfect. Also, I like the little bit of crunch inside there."
"Oh, it's chocolate chips. That was my idea; Sanji said he hadn't tried that before, but was willing to give it a go."
"You're a genius, V."
"Thanks," She blushed again. Feeling mischievous, she smothered frosting on her lips, and planted a large, chocolatey kiss on his cheek. "Mwah~!"
"Hey!" He laughed, with the others joining in. "Venus!"
"You got a little something there!" Luffy pointed to his own cheek with a wide grin.
Usopp's eyes widened when the captain's head was leering towards him, tongue out. "No-no-no-no-no!" He covered the spot, and shoved him away.
"I'll get it!" His girlfriend leaned in next.
"Venus! V! No!" Usopp tipped over on his side from her playful advancement, and held onto her waist. He laughed even harder when she began sucking on his cheek, and licking the frosting off. "Th-that tickles!" His laughter turned into cackles when she tickled his neck, back, and armpits with both hands.
Everyone was besides themselves by now at her silly attack, as she soon let him breathe. "Tickle the birthday boy!" Luffy shouted, and at his command, they all began clamoring.
"NOOOOO!!!"
-
Later on, Usopp was on night watch, as appointed. Great way to end his birthday... sorta. He yawned, as he fought off his fatigue from the exciting day. He smiled at the memories; Venus actually had another gift for him, in the form of a ram figurine with a face strongly resembling the prow of the Going Merry. He almost cried, but kept it together, as everyone admired it.
He vaguely heard the sound of whispered arguing, but paid no mind. Following it was footsteps; he looked over, and perked up at Venus approaching, now in shorts and a crop top, along with her robe and slippers. Her hair was down, and flowing to her waist. "Hey, you."
"Hey yourself," She flirted, and sat next to him.
"I didn't know you were set to go on night watch tonight."
"I'm not," She shook her head, "I just decided to join you."
"Oh, you don't have to-"
"I want to," She insisted, and snuggled up to him, "I want to keep you company."
"Thanks, sweetheart." He held her close, and kissed her forehead, before nestling his cheek on her scalp.
"So um, did you have a good birthday?"
"Absolutely. It was really great."
"I'm glad. Um, again, I'm sorry about-"
"No apologies, V," He cut her off, "There's nothing to be sorry about. You didn't mean to lose track of time; it happens to all of us. Besides, the cake was amazing."
"Thanks. Sanji was a good help. I didn't let him flirt with me, though."
"Good," He snickered.
She smiled, and kissed his cheek, then snuggled her head in his shoulder. "Happy birthday."
"Thank you." He smiled warmly, and brushed her bangs from her face when she yawned largely. "Um, you can sleep if you want."
"No, no. I'm doing night watch with you; gotta stay awake for that."
A few, short minutes later, she was out like a log on his shoulder. Usopp chuckled under his breath, and kept her close. "No need to apologize for this, sweetheart," He whispered, "You being here is enough. Goodnight, darling; I love you." He kissed her hair, and continued his night-watching duties, as she slept peacefully.
Good way to end his birthday.
