-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When you loose someone or something you love, your world breaks into small little pieces which look impossible to put back together. No amount of tears will bring the thing you’ve lost back but you are so overcome with sadness you just cannot stop yourself from letting those tears fall down your cheeks. They normally tell you to talk about the emotions you are experiencing but how do you put into words the desperate need to feel that persons skin against yours or hear their voice just one last time. That person or thing meant the world to you, the simple little things that you found so annoying were the things you missed the most. You cannot explain the grief, the pain and the sadness you are feeling, it was like an elephant was squashing your chest, you couldn’t breathe, you couldn’t eat and you couldn’t sleep. It was an endless cycle of pain.
When you were informed of the loss you had suffered, you were in the middle of meeting with your fellow BAU members. You read the text, tears instantly prickling in your eyes as you excused yourself rather quickly, making your way to the bathroom. As soon as the door closed, the tears fell, your chest constricting and your hands grabbing at your heart as it ached terribly. You almost couldn’t believe it at first, they couldn’t be gone, it wasn’t time yet but in fact it was. You sent a quick message to Emily, explaining what had happened as you rushed out of the BAU building getting home as quickly as you could.
You were a hermit for weeks, barely eating, barely sleeping and not even going to work. You couldn’t bring yourself to get out of bed. You cried every day all day, missing them so badly that your life came to a holt. Matt wanted to help desperately, he texted everyday and even called when he didn’t get a reply. You knew he was there but you couldn’t ask for help, you couldn’t explain why you couldn’t but you just couldn’t.
You finally managed to get yourself out of bed, throwing on some work clothes and sending Emily a quick message telling her to expect you in work. You knew it probably wasn’t the best idea, you looked a mess, you lost an unhealthy amount of weight and you couldn’t concentrate for more than five minutes but you needed to distract yourself, focus on something other than the painful feeling and the emptiness you felt.
You arrived a little late, not saying anything to anyone as you collected the consultant cases from Emily and slumped down at your desk. Everybody looked to you with a sympathetic expression, you sent them a small smile trying to convince them you were fine but Matt knew you weren’t. It took you about 20 minutes just to read the first paragraph of the first case and it was frustrating. You threw the case away from you lobbing the pen over the other side of the room not caring if it hit someone or anything.
Matt had been keeping an eye on you all day, respecting your personal space but as he watched you breakdown in front of everyone that was his last straw. He walked over, softly taking your hands in his, looking to you with the softest expression helping you rise from you seat as he led you to Derek’s old empty office.
The minute he closed the doors, you tried your hardest not to break but when he began to speak you were gone.
“I know you needed your space but I can’t let you go through this by yourself! The pain and emptiness you are feeling now won’t last forever, it will suck for a long time but that pain will slowly ease over time but you can’t keep going like this! I love you with all my heart and I need you to look after yourself, please let me help, you don’t have to go through this alone baby” He whispers tears in his own eyes as he sees your state. At this point you burst into tears not being able to say anything but nod.
He wraps his arms tightly around you, kissing your forehead sweetly as his huge hands rub your back comfortingly. You felt awful for how you treated Matt, you were a shocking girlfriend and you didn’t pay any attention to him. You just wrapped your arms around him tightly, desperately grabbing a hold of his shirt as you just cried as hard as you could into his chest.
Matt took you home after the breakdown you had in the empty office. When you arrived, he ran you a bath, filling it with you favourite scents and bath bombs. He gently rubs the sponge over your body, cleaning your soft skin sweetly as he smiles to you, kissing your cheek every so often. He then washes your hair for you, massaging your scalp with the most delicate touch. When he lifted you out of the water, wrapping the warm towel around you even after insisting you could do it yourself. You got dressed, Matt giving you one his shirts and his biggest hoodie with a smile.
Matt held you in his arms, making sure to rub your back comfortingly until he realised you’d fallen asleep on him. He placed you down in the clean guest bed down the hall, kissing your forehead softly and wrapping your favourite blanket around you for comfort. He made his way around the house, cleaning a long the way as he made sure everything was spotless, including changing your bedsheets and quickly popping out to refill the fridge with some food for you.
He was cooking some dinner, your favourite comfort pasta of course as you woke up to the delicious smell filling the air. You didn’t realise how hungry you actually well. You let your legs sleepily guide you to the kitchen where he was cutely swaying to the soft music he was playing through the speaker, low enough so it didn’t wake you but loud enough for him to hear. He was stirring the pasta as you wrapped your arms around him the best you could, he was a big guy and it wasn’t easy.
“Hi baby, I made you some pasta, I’ve made enough for the next couple of days if you need it” He says with a smile, kissing your cheek softly.
“Hi baby, thank you” You half smile back, feeling so grateful and thankful to have Matt.
Once you’d eaten something, you actually felt a lot better. You quickly eat what’s in front of you as Matt eats with you, chuckling a little when he sees how fast you eat the food.
After food was done and you’d helped him clean, much to his disliking. You both made your way back into your bedroom as you realised he’d cleaned everywhere for you whilst you were asleep. Tears formed in your eyes at his kindness as you lead him over to your bed, laying down with him as you snuggled into his chest, placing soft kisses to his neck as thank you.
“Thank you for cleaning whilst I was asleep, you didn’t have to but I really appreciative you baby” You whisper resting your hand on his chest
“Of course angel, I’ll do anything to help you my love” He replies kissing the centre of your forehead sweetly
“C-can you stay for a couple of days?” You ask, looking up at him with your best puppy dog eyes
“Yes baby I can, get some sleep bub, I will be right here when you wake up” reassures as you fall into the deepest sleep you’ve had for a long time, wondering how you got so lucky and for the first time, the pain eased a little.

Chapter 6
“Callie! Come on, you don’t want to keep your dad waiting!” you called out.
Callie ran down the stairs as you collected your purse and keys.
“How do you know he’s going to let us see him?” she asked curiously.
“Just trust your foster mom, okay?” you winked at her and opened the door.
There was a woman already at the door who looked like she was about to knock.
“Can I help you?” you asked.
“Hi, I’m Carol Atkinson, Callie’s new foster mom,” she extended her hand out to shake.
“I don’t want to go, Y/N,” Callie hugged you tightly.
“You’re not going anywhere. My coordinator, Eileen, never mentioned a transfer. I’m certainly not going to give Callie away to a stranger unless I see some paperwork and a phone call to Eileen,” you replied.
The woman sighed exasperatedly, “You should have just let her go. You made this so much harder for me,” she pulled a gun from her purse.
You shielded Callie behind you. You could hear the buzzing of your phone in your purse.
Penelope Garcia calling
“Shit. Going to have to do this quicker than I thought,” she huffed.
“Callie, run!” you screamed, lunging at the armed woman.
BANG
You had managed to knock her down to the ground as she shot you. You were wrestling, trying to pin her arms to the ground. She kicked your stomach right where your gunshot wound was. You toppled over on to the ground in pain and the woman got up and grabbed her gun once again.
“You bitch!” she exclaimed, shooting you two more times in the thigh for good measure.
You couldn’t even think. The pain was taking over. Everything was going dark.
-
Emily was speeding down the street in the SUV with the sirens on full blast, Matt was in passenger and JJ in the back.
“Garcia, have you managed to get in contact with either of them?”
“I’ve tried calling each of them ten times and no response from either.”
“This is starting to look really bad,” JJ grimaced.
“Hey, what the hell is this guy doing?” Matt pointed to the erratic driver in the other lane, speeding upwards of 80 miles per hour in a 40 zone.
The car swerved in front of the SUV and the two cars collided.
“Prentiss! Simmons! JJ!” Penelope screamed through the busted car monitor.
“No one is seriously injured,” Matt stated, looking around, “But we’re going to be a bit further behind than we would have liked.”
Emily and JJ exited the car and approached the erratic driver with their guns ready.
“Slowly place your hands outside of the vehicle and open the door from the outside,” JJ commanded.
A pair of hands did as followed. A familiar man slowly exited the car with his hands up.
“You’re one of the guards at Spencer’s prison…what the fuck is going on here?” Emily furrowed her brow.
-
“What’s up, Garcia?” Luke answered her call as him and Tara drove to the prison.
“Just when we get the victory of Spencer’s release, Prentiss, JJ, and Matt were in a car accident that was seemingly a planned attack. You’re going to need to get over to Y/N’s house ASAP once you pick Spencer up and be careful,” she warned.
“Will do. We’re pulling up now,” Tara stated.
-
Why would Y/N be a no-show with Callie after being the one to convince him to have visitors again in the first place?
Spencer sat in his cell during visitor time. He was utterly confused and deflated when his name wasn’t called because he was actually looking forward to having visitors again after Y/N’s pep talk. Plus, Callie had her soccer championship game two days ago and he was dying to know how it went.
“Reid,” a guard came to his cell and unlocked the door.
They must have just been running a little late, he thought to himself as he was guided to the room.
Instead of Y/N and Callie though, Tara and Luke were standing there, looking very stressed out.
“What’s wrong?” Spencer gulped.
“Good news, you’re free,” Luke explained, “Bad news, we have good reason to believe Callie and Y/N are in trouble.”
-
The door was wide open when they pulled up to Y/N’s house. Spencer opened the car door and was sprinting towards the house before the car was even parked.
“Reid, you don’t have a gun!” Luke hopped out of the driver’s seat and followed him in.
“I’m going around back,” Tara called out, making her way through the side yard.
“No, no, no,” Spencer murmured as he saw your bloody figure slumped over on the hardwood floor in the entryway.
He crouched down on the floor next to you, taking your head in his hands, “Y/N, can you hear me?” he asked.
You opened your eyes slightly and tried to respond but ended up coughing up blood instead. Spencer turned your head to the side so you wouldn’t choke on it.
“I tried so hard to stop her, Spencer, you have to believe me,” you whispered with tears in your eyes.
“Shhhh,” he stroked your hair back, “I believe you. I believe you, Y/N. Thank you so much for being so brave.”
Your eyes fluttered close as much as you were trying your hardest to keep them open.
“The medics are five minutes out,” Luke sighed.
“She doesn’t have that kind of time,” Spencer panicked, grabbing loose clothes and sheets to keep the pressure on your wounds, “Just hang in there, Y/N. You’re not going to die. I’m not letting you die.”
Luke cleared the upstairs as Tara came back inside, holstering her gun.
“There’s no one out there,” she spoke softly, “But it looks like someone was dragged from the grass in the backyard to the driveway.”
Spencer thought prison was his personal hell. He was wrong, this was. He would gladly go back if it meant Y/N and Callie would be safe and sound.
-
“What do you got for us, Garcia?” Luke asked.
“So someone must have hacked into the prison’s database and changed Cat’s personal information because Lindsey Vaughan was listed as her sister. Cat was on an immediate family only visitor list so this was Lindsey's only way to visit her,” Penelope explained.
“But why did she need to visit her at all?” Luke wondered out loud, “What’s in this for her?”
“Oh, newbie. I have a feeling this relationship was more than just professional,” Penelope replied.
“They’re lovers,” Tara finished.
Spencer was in the backseat, staring out the window. He just got out of prison and now he was going back to another one with his daughter missing and Y/N barely clinging on to life.
“Garcia?” he asked softly.
“Yes, Reid?”
“Can you do your work from your laptop if necessary?” he inquired.
“Yes, I can. I might be a little slower but I’ll manage,” she replied.
“Could you go to the hospital that Y/N is supposed to be arriving at? I just want updates on her as much as possible.”
“Of course, anything for you. As soon as I know, you’ll know. P.G. out,” she ended the call.
The SUV pulled up to the gated fence of the prison.
“You ready, Reid?” Luke questioned.
“I don’t have much of a choice,” he said, unbuckling his seatbelt.
-
Spencer stood outside the one-way mirror, staring at one of the most clever unsubs he has ever faced.
“Are you sure you can do this?” Tara asked, “You've already been through so much today.”
“If anyone else goes in, she’s just going to demand me. The only way to get Callie back is playing by her rules,” Spencer said, walking towards the door to the interrogation room.
Spencer entered silently, taking the seat across from her.
“Spencie,” she smiled.
Her sickeningly sweet grin nauseated Spencer to his very core. He took a deep breath before continuing.
“Where is my daughter?” he asked calmly.
“You mean the boring old preteen or the one in here,” she placed her hands over her belly and began to rub it.
“That’s not possible,” he shook his head adamantly, “We’ve never-”
“I know we’ve never,” she cut him off, “Ask me how I did it.”
“How did you do it?” he replied flatly, already sick of her little mind games.
“When Lindsey drugged and framed you for murder, I also asked her to bring me home a little souvenir,” Cat smirked.
“You had your lover that was pretending to be your fake sister drug and rape me so you could impregnate yourself in addition to framing me for murder?” Spencer asked incredulously.
“Sounds a bit soap opera-y when you put it that way but yeah,” she replied, “You’re going to be a dad, Spencie!”
“I’m already a dad. Where is Callie?” he changed the subject to the more pressing matter at hand.
Cat frowned, “Do you not care about our baby?”
“Not really because I don’t believe you,” Spencer stated.
“Go look at my medical chart if you want,” Cat leaned back in her chair.
Spencer quickly stood and exited where Tara and Luke were looking over a file.
“She’s pregnant, Reid,” Luke confirmed.
Spencer ran his hands through his hair frustratedly, “Is there an update on Y/N?”
“Garcia said one of the nurses said it doesn’t look good,” Tara stated somberly.
“Damn it,” Spencer yelled, kicking a chair and sending it flying across the room.
-
The interrogation with Cat was going nowhere. Every time Spencer would bring up Callie, she would swiftly change the subject back to her pregnancy.
“What are we thinking of for names? I’m personally a big fan of Y/N,” Cat smirked.
“Don’t you dare say her name,” Spencer snapped.
“Maybe Callie then and you could just replace the old one with a better version,” she pushed his buttons further.
Spencer’s blood was at its boiling point. One more unhelpful word out of her mouth and he felt like he would explode.
Like an answer to his prayers, Tara entered the room, “The prison guard confessed for a more lenient sentence. We have a location on Callie as well as confirmation he is the father of Cat’s baby.”
“Thank god,” Spencer murmured to himself, standing up from the table and beginning to walk away without even a second look at Cat.
“You know you’ll never be the same man after prison. I did that to you,” Cat tried to get in one final jab.
Spencer didn’t even turn around when he called back, “Watch me.”
-
The SUV pulled up to the cabin in the woods.
“JJ, Emily, and Matt are 5 minutes out,” Luke checked his phone.
“I think I can talk her down,” Spencer stated, “I helped her in that case years ago when she was just a little girl.”
“It’s our best shot,” Tara shrugged, “Luke and I will surround the other exits. You go in the front.”
Spencer approached the front of the house slowly with a gun in his hand. He peeked in the window to see Callie crying as Lindsey strapped her to a bomb device.
“FBI, freeze!” he swung open the door, training his gun on Lindsey.
“How did you find us?” she asked frantically.
“None of that matters anymore,” he replied, “You need to put down that remote and come with us.”
“No, Cat told me I need to do this. I’m doing this for her,” she demanded.
“She is a sociopath, Lindsey. All the love you think she had for you was faked. You were just a pawn in her game,” Spencer explained.
“No, she loved me,” Lindsey insisted.
“I know she seems good at pretending but she is using you. She doesn’t care what happens to you. She left you alone, harboring the kidnapped child of an FBI agent, to take the blame all by yourself,” Spencer spoke.
Lindsey looked at the remote in her hand.
“Don’t do this, Lindsey,” Spencer warned, “It’s exactly what she wants. Think for yourself.”
Lindsey dropped the remote to the ground and started crying as she was cuffed by Tara.
Spencer ran over to Callie and unstrapped her from the device before pulling her in for the biggest hug ever.
“I missed you,” she sobbed into his chest.
“I missed you too, sweetheart. I’m never leaving you again,” he promised.
“Is Y/N okay?” she asked with watery eyes.
“We can only hope,” Spencer spoke softly.
-
When you awoke for the first time, you started hyperventilating. A nurse ran in at the sound of your heart rate monitor rapidly beeping.
“Y/N, I need you to breathe for me, sweetheart. You’re okay, you’re safe,” she rubbed your back soothingly.
“Callie,” you panted.
“She has a couple of bumps and bruises but is in pretty good condition,” she assured you, “Now, let’s get some solid food and medicine into you and then I want you to rest some more.”
You nodded, laying back down against the pillow.
-
While Callie was resting, Spencer slipped over to your room.
You were sleeping gracefully despite the three bullet wounds on your body. This further proved Spencer’s theory that you were an angel.
“How is she doing?” he asked the nurse who was taking your vitals.
“She woke once and was very startled. She ate a little bit of food so we could give her some stronger medicine. She was asking about your daughter,” the nurse answered.
Spencer chuckled softly, “She got shot 3 times and she’s still putting Callie first.”
“She’s incredible,” the nurse nodded
“I’ll say,” Spencer agreed.
-
You awoke a day later, alone again.
“Good afternoon,” the nurse greeted you.
“Can I go home now?” you asked.
You hated hospitals despite being a doctor. They stressed you out and now served as a reminder of you being shot.
She looked at your chart skeptically, “The doctor suggests you stay for another 5 days at least.”
“I’ll sign the waiver that I’m going against doctor’s orders,” you stated.
“Okay, I guess there’s nothing I can do to stop you. Let me get that form and your prescriptions,” she sighed.
You cautiously attempted to get out of bed, muttering curse words at the pain. This was a bad idea but you had to get home. You felt suffocated here.
You changed into a pair of clean sweats that were left for you and tucked the crutches under your arms.
The nurse returned shortly after, giving you your meds and instructions on how to take care of your wounds.
You shakily hobbled into the hallway.
“Do you want me to get that gentleman for you?” she asked, concerned.
“No, no. He has his daughter to worry about. I don’t want to be a burden. I’ll call a cab.”
“You just took multiple bullets for his daughter. I doubt you’re a burden,” she replied.
“I’ll be fine,” you insisted, stumbling into the elevator and punching the ground floor button.
-
After an incredibly awkward cab ride home, you realized you didn’t have your wallet on you. You tried to tell the cab driver you would just run in and grab some cash for him but he told you it was fine because you ‘looked like you had a rough enough day as is’. You thanked him and headed into your house.
You opened the front door and the first thing you saw was your giant blood stain in the entryway. You sighed, hobbling past it on your crutches and up to your bedroom. You threw your crutches off to the side and collapsed into bed.

Jake ran over to you as you walked through the door. “y/n!” he shouted as he hugged you.
“Hey buddy! happy birthday!” you hugged him back and handed him a huge gift bag that had his birthday gifts in.
“Someone went overboard with the gifts again, didn't they ?” Kristy smiled at you from the living room. “Hey pretty lady” you made your way over to give her a hug.
“How’s the bean?” your hand rested on her belly, “good” she smiled.
The rest of the team had already arrived, JJ and Emily were outside with the kids as Luke showed them the tricks Roxy could do. Penelope took this moment as her chance to take some pictures, ones you were sure would be sent out to everyone in the morning. Tara, Spencer and Rossi were having a conversation about something you couldn’t hear at the moment. You and Kristy had made your way to the kitchen when Matt came down with the girls, one in each arm.
You took Chloe from him, holding her on your hip. “Not even here for 5 minutes and already stealing my kids ?” Matt asked you
“Haha Simmons, very funny. You’re just mad cause she loves me more, isn't that right kiddo ?” you tickled her side, she let out a loud giggle before you put her down.
Everyone made their way to the backyard. The kids ran around as Roxy chased them through the yard, JJ yelling for them to slow down before they fell over or trample the girls. Rossi stood by the BBQ because he refused to let anyone else cook, although Spencer told him using the BBQ doesn’t exactly count as “cooking”
Emily had found Matt’s wine stash and opened a bottle which her, Penelope and Tara were working on. You were sitting beside Luke as you looked around the yard.
You really did find a family with each other.
David chased his brother to the pool, the boys jumped in which only further caused commotion, as Micheal and Henry jumped in after them. Kristy and JJ both looked like they were about to lose their patience, there were now 4 very hyper boys splashing in the pool.
The noise and laughed had caught Roxy’s attention. Her head perked up from beside Luke’s leg and before he could grab her collar, she made a run straight into the pool.
“Boys! Get out of there!” Kristy told them, all of them laughing and ignoring her.
“If you don’t get out, we’re gonna go home right now” JJ gave her boys a stern look, hoping if they got out, so would Jake and David but again, they just ignored the two woman.
“Matt, will you come get your children ?” Kristy looked over at Matt who could barely move with two very comfortable looking girls sitting on his lap.
“Babe, I can’t” he gave her an apologetic look.
“I got it” you got up and walked over to the pool, Luke followed you. “Rox, c’mon girl” Luke whistled, Roxy too, ignored him. You chuckled as you watched the boys and Roxy in the pool, they all looked so happy.
“Boys, c’mon” you crouched down in front of them, the 4 of them swam up to the edge of the pool.
“Kristy worked hard to put together this party and it’s only fair that we be good for her, right ?”
The boys looked at each other and smiled. “Okay” Jake said, smiling at you. You stuck your hands out to help them get out of the pool, Jake grabbed one hand and Henry grabbed the other and they both tugged.
You fell right into the pool, you swam back up to the top, “are you kidding me?!” you laughed, wiping the water from your face.
Kristy sighed, walking about from the pool, leaving you and the boys in the pool. JJ shook her head, “you’re all in trouble, you too y/n” you laughed as she walked away.
“Rox, come here girl, come on” Luke was still trying to get her out of the pool. “Alvez, come here. I’ll push her to you, you help her out” he crouched down and you did get Roxy to the edge of the pool, and out of the pool. Luke was still crouched down as Roxy shook the water off and all over Luke.
“Hey, help me out” you stuck your arm out to Matt, who made his way over to the pool after giving the girls to Kristy. He grabbed your hand only to be pulled into the pool.
“Y/n are you serious?!” Matt shouted as he splashed the water towards you. You laughed, the boys clung onto their father as JJ’s boys clung onto you. One by one, you helped the kids out of the pool and then got out yourself. You and Matt had a close relationship, he was your best friend, basically like your older brother.
Once everyone had dried off, the boys got their fair share of yelling from their mothers, you got yelled at from Rossi after he saw you encouraging the boys and their nonsense rather than getting them to listen to their mothers. Everyone had settled down and had dinner, Kristy and Matt wrangled the kids together to cut Jake’s birthday cake and attempt to get one decent picture before they all ran off to do their own thing.
Jake and David were in the other room with Henry and Michael while the girls were upstairs. “Y/n, you gotta stop buying so much for the kids. They have a million and one things already. Between you and Penelope, we can stop buying stuff for them” Matt chuckled, you smiled at him as Penelope let out a gasp.
“Matt, I'll have you know that’s my job as the cool aunt! I must- it’s my duty to spoil them” she stated, taking a sip of her drink. You nodded in agreement, “what she said”
It was always nice to have the team together outside of work. Matt and Kristy sat together, her legs rested on his lap. Tara, Spencer and Penelope sat on the other couch, Luke sat on the armrest of that couch beside Penelope. JJ and Emily were on the two seater and Rossi was on the recliner, you sat on the floor beside him.
“Oh!” you looked around for your bag. Rossi looked down at you, “what’s wrong kid ?”
“I have something for Matt” you pulled your bag over to you, digging through the contents of the bag and finding what you were looking for. Everyone was now looking at you, you pulled out a little wrapped box with a bow on it. Tossing it to Matt, he catches it.
“What’s this?” he shook the package
“Open it” you smiled, your head resting on the chair behind you.
Matt ripped the paper off the box, Kristy let out a ridiculously loud laugh when she saw what you had given Matt.
“Are you serious ?” Matt asked you, holding back a laugh.
The wrapping paper on his lap had covered what you had given him. “What is it ?” Luke asked him, Matt held up the box of condoms you had just gifted him. The whole room erupted in laughter.
“As much as I love you guys, and I really do. My wallet can't handle all the birthday and Christmas gifts.” you laughed.
“You're telling me” Matt laughed as he tossed the box to the other side of the couch.
“But seriously, it would be nice to give your wife here a break. She's literally always pregnant Matt, I don't even understand where you find the time”
“I know right!” Luke piped up, Penelope smacking his side “be respectful!”
“Yeah, thanks for these” Matt laughed as he tossed the gift paper at you, making you laugh.
“You’re welcome”
David had wandered into the living room after getting a glass of water, he picked up the box as he sat beside his father.
“Dad?”
“Yeah bud?”
“What are these?”
Matt looked over at him to see what he was referring too, you held back a laugh. Matt took the box from him, “nothing bud, grown up stuff” Matt told him, giving you a look after you let out a stifled laugh.
David shrugged as he made his way back over to the other room.
“I’m gonna kill you l/n” he stood up as did you.
“Only if you can catch me Simmons”

“You did it up all wrong,” Rossi sighs with a little chuckle, gesturing at Luke’s tie from a spot behind him in the mirror. “Look Matt, he did it backwards. He’s nervous.”
“It’s hard in the mirror.  Just tie it for me then,” says Luke, rolling his eyes as Rossi bats his hands away and begins to loop his tie properly.
Behind them, Matt paces dramatically with a notecard in his hand.  “You’re not allowed to be nervous,” he says, motioning towards Luke.  “I’m nervous enough for the both of us!  To be, or not to be,” he continues, outstretching his arm theatrically, and placing it on his forehead for effect, “that was the question that Luke Alvez asked Y/F/N on one fateful night almost a year ago.  My name is Matt Simmons, and I’ll be your tour guide through this emotional rollercoaster–”
“Emotional rollercoaster?” Rossi asks.
“We’ll laugh, we’ll hope, we’ll cry.”
“Um,” says Luke, eyeing Matt warily in the mirror as Rossi laughs helplessly, “I’d like to say I know you’re just messing around… but you’re just messing around, right?”
Matt opens his eyes wide, looking appalled.  “Absolutely not!  You made a choice, the right choice I might add, asking me to make the big speech.  It’s my moment, Luke. Everyone will be talking about it for years.”
Rossi laughs even harder, patting Luke on the chest once his tie is done right, “There you go. Like a real gentleman. Don’t worry about Matt,” Rossi adds in a whisper. “I’ll keep him in line, I always do. ”
Matt throws them both a dark look, one hand over his heart, before continuing, “Now what… What is real love? Come with me now on a journey and I’ll tell you.  Together, we’ll delve into the love story between two young heart throbs. Charming, sometimes incredibly tragic, but always pure and true.  Our tale begins on the eighteenth of November one cool brisk evening. Luke Alvez was an autumn baby emerging from his mother–“
“You’ve only got like three minutes to talk,” Luke tells him, just in case he was unaware of the time limit on his speech. Just then, Spencer pops his head in.
“Practicing our speeches?” He looks at Luke and raises his eyebrows with an assuring thumbs up.  “Looking good.”
“You’re just in time,” Matt says, pointing at Spencer, “I was thinking you could act out my speech, like performance art.”
“No plays at my wedding!” Luke says, but he’s laughing too.
Just saying the word ‘wedding’ aloud makes Luke’s heart leap a little.  He starts thinking of how you probably look right now.  You had fussed around nervously all morning, organizing and re-organizing things around the house, cleaning things that were already clean. The same way you always were when you got anxious.  Luke finally hugged you from behind and said, firmly, “Stop.”
You had rolled your eyes but allowed Luke to tug you down onto the couch, wrapping his arms around you in a bear hug.  “It’s going to be perfect,” He had said.
Luke then stands up from the chair, smoothing his hair.
“C’mon Rossi,” says Spencer, still lingering at the door, “Your wife sent me in here to get you, she wants to get some pictures beforehand.”
“Duty calls,” Rossi says, smiling lightly at Matt and Luke before following Spencer out the door.
Once they’re gone, Matt grins at Luke.
“You ready for this?” he asks. Luke gives a little shrug. After month building up to this day, it almost feels like a dream – the hum of people collecting in the church, his shiny new shoes, the look in your eyes earlier when you’d said in awe, “Next time I see you, I’ll marry you,” which Luke can’t stop replaying in his mind.
“Ready as I’ll ever be.  Any last words of advice?”
“Yes,” Matt says seriously.  “Four, actually.”  Matt says the words slowly and clearly, “Don’t – mess – it – up.”
“Like don’t stutter when I’m reading my vows?  Or like, don’t be a horrible husband and drive Y/N away?”
“Both,” says Matt, his face breaking out into a grin.  “See?  That’s why I’m so helpful.”
“Ah,” says Luke, smiling.  “I see.  You’re the master. Thanks, Matt.” He meets his eyes, which are soft and fond.
“You deserve it, brother,” he says. “All of this. I’m so happy for you.”
“Aw,” Luke teases, trying to conceal the lump in his throat, “are you going to cry?”
“I might,” says Matt.  “Your bride certainly will.  She was already looking a bit teary when I left her earlier. We’ve actually all taken bets on how long it’ll take her to start bawling.”
“What?” Luke exclaims indignantly. “Nobody told me that! Come on, I want in.”
“Sorry, but Kristy said it’s not nice to bet on your own wife’s wedding day tears.”
“But I’d have the best chance at winning!”
“Nope, not allowed,” says Matt. “Although I’ll tell you my guess – she won’t last thirty seconds after she sees you.  And it will continue for the rest of the evening.”
“That’s – that’s probably true,” Luke admits. “What did everyone else guess?”
“Tara said she’d cry during vows,” says Matt, ticking them off as he counted on his finger.  “Garcia bet same as me, when she sees you, and Emily thinks she’s already crying.”
“I think I’m with Emily on that one,” says Luke with a little laugh.
Just then JJ pokes her head into the tent, hair piled elegantly on top of her head, gesturing at him.  Matt gives her a charming smile, which she returns.
“Luke, are you almost ready?  Everyone’s waiting!”
Luke nods as JJ sighs and crosses the floor to hug him, straightening his tie.
“You look great,” she whispers.
“Thanks,” Luke says, swallowing another lump that rises in his throat.  “Alright, let’s get moving. I can’t be late to my own wedding.”
As it turns out, they all lose the bet – you hold it together fairly well, misty-eyed and fond, through most of the ceremony.  It’s Luke who gets teary eyed the moment he sees you turn the corner and start walking down the alter.  Your arm’s latched with Rossi’s and the minute your eyes meet his, the lump in his throat is back, only this time with some tears as well.
You’re beautiful, in the most elegant and true way.  Your hair is pulled back, complimented by a veil.  Your face breaks out into a huge smile of triumph when you see Luke.  You clutch tightly onto the assortment of flowers in your hand and make your way closer and closer.
Luke lets out a shaky laugh, trying to cover up how emotional he really is.  After a few moments of just staring, in complete and utter awe, he has to wipe his eyes on the sleeve of his jacket.
You reach the front of the aisle, kissing Rossi on the cheek one last time before stepping up to the alter.
Luke can’t help himself.  He’s smiling so wide, his insides bursting with love and affection and disbelief.  He was so lucky.  So so lucky.
The ceremony’s a blur.  Luke’s head is spinning and it all goes so fast.  Before he knows it, he’s saying his vows, the words falling off his tongue from memory, but they’d really been in his heart the entire time anyway. He’s clutching onto your hand so tight.
The phrase “you may now kiss the bride” is barely audible before Luke’s mouth is on yours, pressing you both together as close as he can.
It’s after your first kiss that your fingers clutch tightly into Luke’s waist and you’re crying when you pull back, smiling so hard your eyes are nearly closed.  Luke pulls you closer, holding onto you for dear life, his heart is so full he thinks it might explode.
“We did it,” you breathe into his neck, a secret whisper just for Luke, even as everyone’s cheering and applauding from all sides. It’s almost too much.  He sways against you, arms locked tight around you back.
“I knew we would,” he murmurs, kissing you on the cheek.
Matt’s speech isn’t as bad as he’d promised – in fact, it’s incredibly touching. You, predictably, sniffle and giggle your way through the entire thing, much like the rest of the crowd.
The day passes in a blur of relatives and champagne, Luke and you slow dancing, Matt and Kristy cozying up together.  Rossi wrapping Luke in a bear hug and muttering “I love you, kid,” with tears in his eyes.
Luke’s mom, who cried even more than you, pulls you close and whispers, “I’d say welcome to the family, but you always have been.” You hug her with tears prickling in your own eyes, at a loss for words.
It’s frantic, fast-paced and fun, a sensory overload. Luke barely gets time to eat a slice of his own wedding cake.  He’s not sure what he’s going to remember about the day, but he knows that it’ll be good.  Maybe something with your hand on his back, or the feeling of your cheek pressed to his while you dance, just swaying together under the soft lights.
“Will you kiss me?” you ask Luke towards the end of the night, when you’re almost the last two left dancing.  Luke smiles down at you, cupping your face, eyes incredibly fond.
“Always.”

Hospital
A hurt Emily fic for idk anyone. I just wrote it forever ago and just got around to finishing the ending... Hotchniss and whump soo I’m also like obsessed rn with retired Hotch and Emily still working but also like old Hotchniss is really soft
“Hotch!” His large dark figure jogs down the hall. Even aged, cheeks covered with a soft greying beard, and hair a little longer than what used to be typical, it takes Garcia only a glance to know that it’s him. A single glance to recognize the distinct way that he exists in space. She rises to her feet to meet him as he comes to a breathless halt. “What’re you doing here?”
He’s shaking, eyes scanning over the little crowd of them. “Where--” he recognizes them even if he doesn’t know them. Luke Alvez, Emily’s always going on about him. Hotch had hired the young man and Emily never stops reminding him of that. He’s surmised the younger man is to her what she used to be to him-- a pain in the ass. Matt Simmons, tall, charming, and looks exactly the same as the first time Hotch met him years ago. Tara, whom he knows, and respects for her ability to work so flawlessly with Emily. Then JJ and Reid.
“Where is she,” he asks. A few years ago, he would never be putting on the show that he is right now. He certainly wouldn’t be standing here. He’d be off hidden somewhere, reeling with emotions and probably being an ass to anyone unfortunate enough to run into him. But not today. “Where’s Emily?”
They’ve been doing this little dance for ages. For longer than it even matters to count. He hadn’t been brave enough to say anything, never has been. So, even after thousands of letters back and forth from London, Emily coming home to help the team, and stopping Scratch… She’d found him, though.
Weekends started revolving around her schedule. She and Jack spending time together, to make up for how she left things after Doyle. Then… they didn’t even need Jack. They started texting again. She’d tell him about Luke and Reid getting into trouble. How Matt has the cutest kids. That Garcia is dragging them out for a girls’ night.
And, standing in the middle of this hospital corridor, he finally understands what it’s like to be on the other half. What it must have been like for Haley and Will and Luke’s wife. To not know if the other half of you is…
Dave appears from the hall, calm. He smiles when he spots Hotch. “Aaron,” he calls, with a small wave. For old friends, he hasn’t seen much of the man since his retirement. More than the team, Jack’s a very big fan of weekends spent up at Dave’s house but still. It’s been a while.
“Dave,” Hotch breaths. He steps up to the older man, twisting and anxiously pulling at his hands. Trying to work the stress out of his body. “Is she okay?”
Rossi looks the younger man over. In this state, he’s not going to be nearly as soothing as Dave needs him to be. Emily’s hurting and she’s asking for Hotch but they’re going to be like gas on a house fire if he lets them near one another right now. “Sit down,” he instructs, motioning to the chairs.
Hotch’s bottom lips trembles, his voice thick as he barely manages to form Rossi’s name. “Dave, please,” he rasp.
Rossi doesn’t budge.
Knees shaking under him, Hotch sinks heavily into the chair. He leans over himself, elbows on his knees. “I don’t have time for this,” he complains, working his fingers through his hair.  He rubs at his face, sniffling as he roughly wipes the tears that fall against his will.
He glances up when a hand falls on his back, Tara offers him a smile. “She’s strong,” Tara informs him with a strength that he wished he had. “I was with her the entire time,” Tara inhales calmly, drawing her shoulders up with the breath. If she wants to reflect the calm that Hotch needs, she needs to look the part. With a nod of her head she adds, “she was aware the entire time. Trying to give orders and keep us calm.”
He nods his head, bottom lip still trembling and eyes rimmed with the tears that he refuses to let fall. “Sounds like Emily,” he manages, eyes shifting to the team as they nod agreeance. Her team. He’d left the BAU to her and she’d nestled and nurtured like she does everything. Looking at them, gathered around him and just as worried as he is, he can’t imagine why she’d ever been so afraid to take over.
“Alright,” Rossi sighs. He sits down beside Aaron, preparing himself. He’d seen her. Not her power of attorney but still trusted enough that his name was the second one she thought of when she woke up. She needed someone and Aaron hadn’t been here. “She’s sedated--” he holds up his hand when Hotch tries to cut in. “I know, I’ve already requested they pull her off the medication. I know she doesn’t like it.”
Pushing his hand through his own hair he sighs, “she’s… tired but she wants to see you.” Hotch nods. “You have to be calm.”
“I’ll be fine.”
Dave shakes his head but caves, “alright.”
She’d taken a hit straight to her vest. Laid out on her back struggling to breathe, she’d realized that she’s way too fucking old for this. She remembered all the times Aaron had tried to convince her back to bed in the early mornings. Practically begging her to just take the day off. To stay here with him.
When she wakes up in the hospital, stiff and in pain, all she wants is him. Someone to hold her hand and to pull her hair off of her back. It’s itchy and she hates it.
Seeing Dave, she could have cried. So certain he was going to deny her and tell her Aaron wasn’t coming.
“Aaron,” she whispers, a sob bubbling its way up out of her throat. She’s too weak and hurting to reach out for him but he doesn’t break stride when he sees her. “There you are,” she can’t remember what happened between taking that shot to the vest and now. There’s a faint, faint, memory of the feeling of her blood pooling around her. Fear. She’d been afraid. Now, face pressed into his shoulder and his arms wrapped tightly around her, she’s not afraid at all.
Pressing her face into his clothes she smiles, “you smell good.”
He laughs but it’s chocked and sounds more like a scoff. “Thanks,” he croaks. Sniffling, he pulls back from her hug. There’s a fleck of blood on her neck, leftover from the wound on her side. He’s already mapping out ways to keep her comfortable when he gets to take her home. The couch isn’t any good but their bedroom is on the second floor of their house. He’s a little too old to be carrying her but he already knows he’ll pull his back out before he makes her walk up the stairs.
“I like the beard,” she whispers dreamily, fingers scratching at his facial hair.
He places his hand over hers, cupping her hand there.
“Aaron--”
He covers his mouth, looking away as his breathing hitches his tears to fall.
“Honey,” she whispers, tugging his hand when he keeps himself turned from her. Trying to hide his tears. “You don’t have to hide,” she reminds him softly. He still keeps his head turned. “Well, if you’re going to hide your tears will you at least make yourself useful and come over here and cuddle me, huh? I’m tried and I’m in pain and I don’t sleep alone.”
He shakes his head, pulling his hand from hers, wiping at his face.
“I wasn’t playing,” she clarifies. “I need another blanket and your big dumb butt up here with me.”
Rubbing his tears away, Hotch forces himself to breathe. To calm down. Clearing his throat, he goes to the closet on the other side of the room. Retrieving her second blanket. “There’s not enough room on there for me,” he informs her, spreading the blanket and draping it over her delicately.
She frowns, sadly looking down at the room between her sides and the railing. She’s pouting. Very childishly so but he can’t stand to see her sad and she knows it. “Please,” she whispers. “Won’t you just try?”
He sighs and she knows she’s won.
He’s terrified he’ll hurt her but she’s completely okay with that.
“How,” he’s half on the edge, scratching at the side of his face as he tries to figure out how to lay on his side or--
“I don’t care,” she replies, head leaning on the pillow as she watches him. She’s always thought his thinking was rather hot. So analytic and logical. Funny thing is, both of those traits also annoy the hell out of her.
With a nod of his head, she can see he’s come up with his plan. He’s got his “business” face on, or, as she calls it, his “Agent Hotchner” face. It’s very distinct and cute.
“Oh careful with the hands mister,” she giggles, smiling when he places a hand on her stomach, carefully maneuvering himself around her. His thumb grazes her breast and she’s only in this hospital gown. He rolls his eyes but she knows he loves her little jokes.
When he stops moving, he’s successfully managed to get mostly behind her, allowing her to lean back against his chest. A favorite cuddling position of hers. He’s very content with himself. She’s happily moving herself to nestle as closely as she can.
“You’re very warm,” she informs him, wincing when she pulls on her sore side. He rubs her back and she can feel herself relaxing again. Everything is warm. Her head is on his chest, she can hear his heart beating, and his breath running down under her gown across her skin. She’s not going to be able to stay awake like this.
“Emily?”
His voice has thickened again and she can hear the tears in his voice. Without opening her eyes she finds his leg and pats it, trying her best sleepy and hurting to comfort him as best she can. “What is it, my love?” She doesn’t make a habit of using little monikers like that in their day-to-day life but occasionally it’s the best way to remind him she loves him.
“I love you,” he whispers, “you know that, right.”
She smirks, he’s always so anxious. Terrified one day she’ll wake up and doubt every minute of the last decade. “I know,” she assures him. “Most of the time,” she amends with a smile, “I doubt it a little when you wake me up snoring or leave the toilet seat up.”
He smiles and shakes his head.
Good, she thinks and sighs contently. They’re going to be okay.

Tumblr media
As you stared towards the building you were soon to be working at, many of thoughts plagued your mind. Number one: it's bigger than you previously imagined. Number two: What happens if everyone you work with hates you? And number three, which was the main one really: Did they know about everything?
Shaking your head, effectively dismissing the inner bombardment of worry, you walked towards the doors. You were mesmerised, to say the least. You had been to Quantico multiple times before, but this was different. Something about working at Quantico made everything seem clearer and better than just visiting.
You carried on towards the elevators, ensuring to hold the doors open incase anyone wanted to jump in last minute -- you would've hoped that someone would be nice enough to do it for you. Once you realised that no one was in face coming in, then you clicked the button with the number '6' on.
It was a swift and rather smooth ascent, no jolts, no feeling sick, nothing. Your ride ended with a ding signalling that the doors had opened. You had made it.
Smiling, you walked out of the doors and towards the glass ones and peered inside briefly. It was full of people either walking around, sat down in what you assumed was the break room, or desks and offices dotted around the place.
The clock in the corner caught your eye, it read '08:04'. "Shit," you mumbled to yourself, fumbling to open the door.
At the same time, you felt a presence next to you. "Are you alright?" they asked, a hint of amusement in their tone.
You looked up and saw a man smiling down at you with white, pearly teeth. You smiled back at him, "Uh, yeah. First day, that's all."
His face contorted into one of realisation, his mouth forming into an 'O' shape. "You're [L/N], right?"
You nodded your head at him, your face flushing slightly. "The one and only, well, kind of."
"Luke."
You frowned at him, confused slightly. "Pardon?" You asked.
He grinned at you yet again, laughter coming from him. "I'm SSA Luke Alvez."
Your eyes widened and started muttering our small apologises, embarrassment flooding your body. The man, who you now know is called Luke, told you it was okay and then opened the door for you.
"Thank you," you said, smiling softly at him. "Also, could you tell me where I can find Agent Prentiss' office? I've kind of forgotten since last time."
Luke pointed the door that was directly behind you. You thanked him yet again and made your way over to Emily Prentiss's office. You knocked three times and waited to be let in.
"Come in," her voice came from the other side of the door. You opened the door and shut it behind. "Agent [L/N]."
You nodded at him, "Ma'am."
She put her hand up in the air, staring at you. "Please, call me Emily."
"Noted." You replied.
Shes stood up from her chair and did up one of her buttons on his dark blue -- almost black -- suit jacket, "Let's go introduce you to the team."
Your heart stopped for a small moment, worry once again starting to enter your mind. Those questions coming back with full force. Nonetheless, you followed Agent Prentiss to the middle of the bullpen to where everyone was gathered. We're they asked to be gathered when you were in her office?
She led you over and stood in front of five people. "Everyone, this is our newest agent, [Y/N] [L/N]." She introduced, you smiling warmly at them all.
A blonde woman walked forward, her teeth glistening as her lips curved into a small smile, "Jennifer Jareau, but everyone calls me JJ."
You shook her hand back, "Nice to meet you JJ."
Soon, JJ was replaced by an older man, who also shook your hand, "Matt Simmons."
He ket go a few seconds after saying his name and then went back to standing next to Luke Alvez. You smiled at him and waved, "Nice to see you again, Luke." You joked.
Matt's eyes flicked between the two of you, "You know each other."
You quickly realised how that sounded and tried to resolve the issue, "Oh! No, no not really. We met each other like five minutes ago at the door."
Luke smiled at you and shook his head up and down. "Nice to see you again [L/N]."
You moved on to the oldest of the group who you immediatly recognised as David Rossi. Your eyes lit up. "Dave!"
Rossi's wide smile matched yours and pulled you into a hug. He released you soon after and said, "How you been? How's your father."
Your smile faltered for a second and you throat grew tighter. So they didn't know. "Oh, you know. Same old, same old."
"Well, send my love to your mother, will you?" He asked.
"Y-yeah, of course." You sent him a tight lipped smile and internally cursed yourself for the terrible cover up. You would've been surprised if they didn't know that you were lying.
"And this is Dr. Reid," Emily spoke from behind you, pointing to a tall, lanky man with curls placed on his head which sort of resembled a mop.
You went to go shake his hand but you saw his hesitancy. You guessed that he didn't shake hands or didn't like touch in general so you opted for a simple wave. He waved back at you, his smile matching everyone else who was still looking at you. "Nice to meet you, Dr. Reid."
Emily clapped her hands together, "Okay. Now that's done, let's all get back to our paper work." There was a cacophony of groans from around you, not from you though. You were just glad that this whole interaction was over and if that meant doing boring paper work on your first day? Then so be it.
Each of them dispersed and left you standing by yourself. They all went to their designated desks. Of course, since you were new, you didn't have an assigned desk so you were completely at a loss for where you should be.
"Hey," a voice from beside you made you jump, pulling you out of your mind. "Sorry, didn't mean to make you jump."
You turned to face the person talking to you; it was Dr. Reid. "Oh, no. It's fine." You waved him off, not wanting him to feel bad.
His hazel eyes met yours, "Are you okay?" He asked you.
You nodded at him, you plastered a fake smile on your lips a lot quicker than you expect. "I'm perfect. I was just wondering where my desk is, though."
Dr. Reid's eyes widened in understanding and gestured you to follow him, "This one's yours," he said, "It's opposite mine, if that's okay with you?"
"Of course, Dr. Reid--"
He interrupted you, "You can just call me Spencer. No need for the formalities."
"Okay then," you took in his advice and refrained from calling him Doctor again. "Thankyou, Spencer."
You sat down on your chair and swivelled on it, getting used to the feeling. It wasn't necessarily comfortable, but it wasn't uncomfortable either. It was just an office chair, to be honest.
Spencer cleared his throat and walked back over to his desk and sat down in his own chair. His head disappeared behind his computer for a second or two before popping back up. His eyes met your, "Welcome to the team, [Y/N]."
Warmth spread throughout your being, along with a red tinge to your cheeks. "Thankyou."

Halloween Incident (Matt Simmons x Reader)
Prompts / MasterList
Before anything, no hate. I love Kristy and the kids.
Tumblr media
6 Years Later Matt knows that once Joe was born, there was going to be some problems since Joe was his and Y/N’s child. The kids are still learning that Joe isn’t fully their brother. So Joe got to stay back with Matt and Y/N while the other four had to go to Kristy’s house after the weekend. Matt knew that eventually, the kids will complain about having to leave while Joe gets to have them for himself. Moving to the holidays. Before Matt would be able to come over a while and celebrate but once Joe was born. The kids would either celebrate with Matt early or after the actual date. Joe gets to see the team a lot more than the four. He got to go to the get-togethers Rossi would make for the team.
So when Halloween came around, Matt was away for a case but the team managed to finish the day before Halloween, So Matt told Kristy that Y/N and Joe were coming to the office since Joe really wanted Matt to see his costume.  So Kristy and the kids were waiting outside to wait for the team.
“Wow guys, you look out of this world,” Matt said smiling at his kids dressed up. “Mom said that we’re going to trick or treat after here. Are you going to come with us?” Jake asked. “I don’t know bud, we still have to do some papers to do for the case but I can try,” Matt spoke. “Penelope just texted me that Y/N and Joe are already there with Will and the kids. She even brought Roxy and dressed her up.” JJ said looking at her phone. “You let her dress up Roxy?” Tara asked looking at Luke. “She asked so many times that I finally gave in.” Luke sighed smiling. The team chuckled and continued to walk inside, Kristy and the kids, following.
Once they got into the office, they saw that everyone was there already. “Hey, where are the kids?” Jj asked confused to see Penelope, Will, and Y/N but the kids were nowhere in sight. “They wanted to put on a small show for you guys saying that since you guys were off working hard, why not give you guys a costume show for your hard work. Henry and Michael are in the meeting room, waiting for their cue, Roxy is hiding under Luke’s desk and Joe is here in the chair” Y/N pointed to the chair that the chair was facing backward. “A show you said, Well we’re ready to see” Rossi spoke clearly fond that kids wanted to give them a show.
“Okay, Roxy is first,” Penelope said excitedly. She patted her leg and Roxy came up next to her. “Wow,” Luke said in shock. Roxy was wearing a bullet vest that is made for dogs. “Do you like it?” Penelope asked nervously. “I love it,” Luke said smiling walking up to Roxy.  “Thank you, I thought since she’s working with you in the rangers. She could be her true self. A true badass” Penelope explained smiling. “Well done Garica,” Prentiss said smiling. “Thank you,” Penelope smiled turning to Will. “Alright, the boys’ turn” Will smile and turn to the meeting room door. “I proudly present Henry and Michael LaMontagne” Will spoke loudly and both boys ran smiling. Henry was Spiderman and Michael was Hulk. They pretend to fight villains. Everyone just claps for them. They run to JJ. “You guys look amazing,” JJ said smiling, hugging them. They both said thank you.
“Now for the final trick or treater is Joe Simmons,” Will said, nodding to Y/N, who was giving the boys a high five. “Yes now, Matt knows that Joe originally told us that he wanted to be The Flash but last night, Joe told me he changed his mind. He wanted to be his all-time favorite hero.” Y/N said smiling, making Joe kick his legs in excitement. “But I thought that The Flash is his favorite hero,” Reid asked confused, making Matt nod looking confused. “Well, last night he changed his mind. So I present you Mr.” Y/N started, she spun the chair around to reveal Joe wearing a small white v shirt and jeans making him look like a version of Matt. “a small version of SSA Matthew Simmons” Y/N finished. Everyone quickly let out an aww at Joe.
“He wanted to be me,” Matt asked in shock, walking up to Y/N and Joe. “Yep, Garica helped me find everyone I needed to make the clothes,” Y/N replied, Matt, picked Joe up and pulled Y/N in for a kiss. He kissed Joe on the cheek. “Did you like it, daddy?”  Joe asked excitedly. “I loved it, Bubba,” Matt answered, smiling. Joe just smiled and hugged Matt tighter. “So I’m your favorite hero,” Matt asked, tickling Joe a little bit. “Yes,” Joe answered shyly.  Matt turns to Y/N and puts an arm around her. “Am I yours?” Matt asked jokingly. Y/N made a thinking face. “ I don’t know, The Flash is faster” Y/N spoke but quickly shook her head and kissed Matt. “You’ve always been my favorite hero” Y/N whispers.
Kirsty cleared her throat making Matt and Y/N pull away. Y/N smiled at them.”Hey, you guys look amazing” Y/N said looking at the kids. They all smile and let out a thank you beside Jake. “If I finish the paper that I need to fill. I will join you guys.” Matt said. “What if we wait for you,” Jake asked. “If your mom wants to,” Matt asked, looking at Kristy. “Sure why not,” Kirsty answered. Matt grabs the paper and sits down with Joe in his lap. Jake got more mad that Joe was sitting in his dad’s lap. Y/N walks over walks over to talk with Penelope. Kristy joins them, leaving the kids and Matt.
Matt was trying to rush doing everything he needs, he loves spending time with his kids. “Okay, I need to go grab a paper from the meeting office. I will be right back.” Matt stood up and sat Joe down on his chair.  Joe sat there still since when Y/N placed him early, he almost fell down since he was moving around a lot. “Why don’t you get off my dad’s lap, maybe he can finish faster,” Jake said annoyed, he felt like Matt was taking forever since Joe was in his lap. “Okay, just let daddy come so he can put me down on the ground. I don’t know how to get off.” Joe nods, Y/N always told Joe to be nice. He understands that maybe his siblings want to hang out with Matt since they don’t see him a lot. “You don’t know how to get off,” Jake asked annoyed that Joe won’t leave soon.  “No, my mommy told me to wait until she or daddy can do it,” Joe explained.
The rest of the kids understood but Jake was always annoyed. He walked up and grabbed the chair and pulled away from the desk. Not expecting the chair to move, Joe fell to the floor but he managed to hit his side on the desk. He instantly started to cry from the pain on his side. “JAKE WHY DID YOU DO THAT” Lily yelled in shock. Everyone runs over but Y/N got there first.
She put Joe in his lap. “What happens? What hurts bubba” Y/N asked checking over his body. “I fell,” Joe let out in the middle of his sobs. Matt looks over the kids. “What happened?” Matt asked. “Nothing” Jake quickly let out but Lily rolled her eyes. “Jake asked Joe to get off your lap so you can finish faster. Joe agreed but he said to wait until you or Y/N can bring him down from the chair. I don’t know why but Jake pushed the chair backward fast so that Joe lost his balance and fell. He hit his side on the desk” Lily explained.
Matt and Y/N quickly made eye contact. “I’m going to take him to get checked out.” Y/N told Matt standing up with Joe in her arms, who was silently crying holding his side  “I will go with you,” Matt said standing. “What about trick or treating with us, you promise,” Jake said in shock. “You don’t have to” Y/N whisper to Matt. “I want to know,” Matt replied, turning to Kristy and the kids. “Do you work tomorrow?” Matt asked Kirsty, who shook her head. “I will come over tomorrow okay?” Matt said. Kristy nodded. Matt and Y/N both headed out.

"Excuse me, are you SSA Emily Prentiss?"
I walked into the BAU and into the unit chief's office. A woman with blonde hair showed me to her office, her blue eyes smiling at me and was ever so kind. When she led me through the blue office walls and coffee stained desks, I walked into an office that looked very elegant but stern, like a lawyers office. Plaques hanging on the walls, a bookshelf behind her desk filled with prestige spines facing towards me.
Sitting at her desk, was none other than the woman herself, SSA Emily Prentiss. I've looked up to her since I was a little girl. Hell, I looked up to the whole team ever since they saved me from my uncle, who ended up murdering my mother and killing himself. He was a lonely man, that I knew. He lived alone in California, his light brown hair braided down to his butt, smoking on cigarettes and joints. He longed to be a chef, but after having to move back home to Michigan, he wasn't having any luck. Out of self pity, and the fact of his luck going down the drain quicker my the minute, his narcissism made him jealous of my mother and her successes and started killing women that looked similar to her until he was confident enough to get to her.
When he took her he took me, too. I wasn't apart of his original plan, but taking me meant that he could prove to a witness that he was better than my mother. Then, the BAU came barging in just before my uncle was going to pull the trigger.
It was agents Prentiss and Hotchner who tried to talk him out of it. I remember being there, praying to any god out there that they could change his mind and be locked up with the key thrown away, because I needed both of my parents. Together, they were my everything. But sadly, it didn't work. My mother and uncle died together in their abandoned childhood home, and I was left there with blood spatters covering me, and I felt alone.
Prentiss was the one who wrapped me in a blanket and quickly got me out of there. She was by my side when the EMT's were checking on me, and she was there for the ride home, talking to my dad about what happened and to comfort us. She then gave me her card and said to call her for anything, even if it was just girl talk.
Aside from what happened after, this was all from the report that I read years later when I was 16. I wanted to remember what happened because the repressed memories almost drove me insane. Reading it gave me peace, knowing that my uncle was truly a narcissist who just wanted to be noticed for his talent.
I've always been very smart. I was able to do high school electives while doing college classes. After I got all the general classes out of the way quickly, I was able to really focus on what I wanted to do ever since I was a little girl: To become an FBI agent, but not just any FBI agent. I wanted to be apart of the BAU with Agent Prentiss.
I was able to intern for the DOJ after I finished college at 19. I stayed there until today. At 26, the BAU were looking for a new member of the team. I sent in my application right away and I got a letter back immediately for what I thought, at first, to be for an interview. But written by Prentiss herself, she stated that I was the new member. I didn't know if it was because of my achievements or if she remembered me, but my excitement was through the roof.
"Yes," says Emily, looking up from the files she had on her desk, "come in, please!"
I walked in and shut the door behind me. "I'm..not sure if you remember me, but-"
"Of course I remember you, Clover!" She gets up from her desk and walks next to it with open arms. I walked right up to her and gave her the biggest hug. It was very unprofessional, but Emily gave me an equally tighter hug, and the blinds were closed anyways, "I always had my phone on just for you. Even when I had to fake my death or when I started working at Interpol, I made sure your number was in my contacts."
We pulled from the hug and just stood their giggling. I loved how she always made sure I was ok. She never missed a birthday or a Christmas, which what made me look forward to them every year. I regret not calling her for anything, but it was because I understood how busy working at the FBI was. The BAU always had a case they needed to go to and while I know she would've dropped everything and pick up her phone, I didn't want to distract her. The past few years, she hadn't been able to call me on holidays because she ended up becoming section chief.
"Thank you, Emily, for accepting me into the team. I am quite shocked that you didn't even need me to come in for an interview. Not saying I'm not appreciative but...you know." I giggled.
"Nothing to worry about, my dear," she said, "When I saw your application I knew immediately that you were perfect for the team, not just because I know you so well. Even if we never met, I would hire you on the spot. Your achievements are marvelous."
We sat there in quiet for a few moments, then had a nice quick chat before she got up from her chair and walked towards the door. "C'mon," she said as she opened it, "I want you to officially meet the team."
"As you can probably tell, Agents Hotchner and Morgan aren't with us on the team anymore. But I'm sure you'll still get along with everyone."
We walked down to the end of the floor to the conference room, where all the members were inside playing a game of poker. I thought it was very strange, but maybe they just didn't have any paperwork to do today.
"Everyone," said Emily when we walked in, "I would like you to meet Agent Clover Kingsley. She's the newest member of the team and a very good friend of mine. You might remember her name from 12 years ago."
Suddenly, the man with curly hair moved himself over to an empty chair next to him, letting me sit there. "Little Kingsley, of course! Emily always talked about you. I'm not sure if you remember me but-"
Just as he was about to say, I gave my hand out for a shake. He took aback a bit, not in a rude way or anything, that I could tell. "I um...don't shake hands. It's not you, it's just hands are the biggest hotspot for germs. It's actually been proven that it's safer to kiss."
"Oh right," I giggled, "you're Dr.Spencer Reid! I remember you. But is that what you tell all the ladies, pretty boy?"
Spencer took aback to that, making the whole room giggle and smirk. "Sorry, I remember overhearing Agent Morgan call you that when I was getting in the car with Emily to go home."
I felt a little nudge on my right arm and looked over to see a new muscular man sitting next to me. He reached his hand out and shook it, "I'm Luke. Alvez."
I smiled at him as I went down the line. After meeting Luke, I met Dr.Tara Lewis next, then Agent Jauro, or Jj for short, then Matt Simmons, David Rossi, and last but not least, Penelope Garcia. Afterwards, they let me join them in a game. I was beating them non stop, making Spencer (who's from Vegas and the team didn't fail to mention he was banned from majority of the casino's there) question everything.
With Luke's playfulness and Spencer's goofiness throughout the day, I knew right then and there I was going to fit right in. And from that moment on, the three of us became the golden trio.

          Des Moines, Iowa- October, 2017
Shutting his phone with far more force than necessary, he stared down at the small object. He flipped it in his palm and scowled at it with dismay. It was a chance of a lifetime, and it was all he had thought about for the past three years. There wasn’t a world in which he would refuse the offer, yet, for just the slightest of moments, he hesitated. But just as quickly as it came, it left, and he made his decision.
Aaron Hotchner was returning to the BAU.
The death of a valued team member left a door open, and Hotch already had a foot in. Cruz called him and offered him a deal he knew the former agent wouldn’t refuse. All the pieces were falling into place, all the stars were aligning, all the signs were being shown. There was no way he’d be able to refute everything the world was telling him. And he definitely didn’t try very hard.
Cruz said that Mr. Scratch had been terrorising the team practically since he left. Someone that cunning was not able to let go of something they felt so interesting. He had placed Reid, an agent who had already seen far too much for his short life, in a maximum security prison, framing him and terrorising him with memories that were just out of his reach.
Hotch was told about what happened in the car, how they were ambushed, how Prentiss was abducted, and how SSA Walker was killed. He was told how traumatized the team was. But he was also told how much relief finally catching Lewis gave them. For the first time in a very long time, the team felt somewhat safe
And the spot left open by the death of Stephen Walker- Cruz knew that Hotch was itching to come back. Hotch may have only worked under him for two years, but they knew each other very well. Cruz knew how much being away from this job, this team, this life had been destroying Aaron, even if he wasn’t told so.
“Hey, buddy.” It was an old habit of his, crouching down to talk to his son and calling him ‘buddy.’ Jack had probably come to associate the pet name with bad news, because the only time his father ever called him that was when he had difficult facts to present. Jack wasn’t a little kid anymore; he was twelve, and he was far too smart to not see that his dad was undergoing some turmoil.
But the good thing with Jack was that he was also smart enough to act like nothing was wrong, to just go with the flow. He had gone through a lot of changes in his life, and would definitely be going through more in the future, but he was used to it by now and was okay to move with his dad at a moment’s notice.
“What’s up, Dad?” he asked, looking up from a math book with attentive eyes.
Hotch stood up and moved into the seat across the table from him. He spoke very slowly, “How would you feel about moving back to Virginia?”
“That’d be cool!” he enthused, nodding his head but his eyebrows were knit with confusion. “Why? Are you going back to the FBI?”
Hotch pursed his lips in thought. His fingers drummed subconsciously on the wood top. “I… think so, yeah. But-” he interrupted himself, holding his hand in the air, “only if you are okay with it. I don’t want to cause you anymore pain by moving you. Again.”
The younger Hotchner shook his now long hair clad head. “I miss Virginia! And we can visit Mom without having to fly!”
“Yeah,” came Hotch’s much quieter, less enthusiastic reply. “We can visit Mom.”
Jack turned back to his algebra with a smile on his face and a bouncing knee, his mouth moving rapidly to describe to his silent father how excited he was to go back and see his friends, and see Uncle Dave, and go back to that school, and have Dad catch the bad guys, and see Aunt Jess.
Hotch was just quiet, basking silently in his son’s excitement. He only hoped that the team, but one specific person, really, would be so excited for the return of Agent Hotchner.
     Quantico, Virginia- the same day
Prentiss was silent, and it wasn’t lost on her coworkers. They had taken to routinely dropping by her door, asking her if she wanted anything, and always hearing a false cheery no. Additionally, it wasn’t lost on her that they were grouping in the bullpen, shooting furtive looks her way, talking in hushed voices, and jolting back to their files whenever she looked down at them.
The call from Cruz had just come in about a new team member.
To say that she and Hotch had a… complicated history would be a serious understatement. Years ago, Emily wanted to leave. She wanted to get out of this job and this life because she couldn’t see herself getting back into what used to be. The failure with her house really just cemented that for her.
Hotch changed that.
The “date” they had arranged had actually turned into a date. It was easy to think back with a fond smile at the memory of Hotch with a cream mustache, clueless and smiling for once in his life. She had sat in that chair at the coffee shop and thought, ‘why would I ever want to leave this?’
After that, it was easy for her buried feelings to surface in an explosion of . It was easy for her to sit on his sofa and fall in love with him as he cared for his child with a gentleness she had never seen anywhere else. And she’d like to think the same went for him.
The HR battles about their relationship were difficult, but in Aaron’s words as they sat outside of the office waiting for a final verdict, “it was nothing we can’t handle. I love you, and there’s no way that Strauss- or anyone for that matter- will be able to take that away from us.”
And it was easy to believe that, too. Three years they loved each other, days spent fighting the horrors of the world, nights spent comforting each other and falling deeper into the trance that was the other.
Emily being herself, she’d known it was too good to be true. There was always a tiny voice in the back of her head whispering, “You don’t deserve him. He’s just going to leave you. This isn’t real.”
She should have listened.
Mr. Scratch changed that. In the moments after Hotch was rescued from Lewis, she’d known it was over. The blank look he shot her, the way his hands shook, the flinch away from her when she laid a caring hand on his back. Just everything.
And she was right. Hotch, a spot of darkness on the otherwise pristine and bright hospital bed, was the last she’d seen him. He checked himself out, picked Jack up from Jess’ house, packed a bag, and left.
The only note he left wasn’t to her or even Rossi. No. It was to Garcia, a warning to not go looking for him- that he knew how to disappear from even her, but that would only make it harder on Jack. It was a plea to let him leave his life behind, the very thing he had convinced Prentiss to not do three years prior.
Emily dragged herself from her thoughts by staring at the framed photos she kept on her desk. Herself, Penelope, and JJ smiling at a bar after a solved case. Reid’s arms looped around her and a carefree smile on his face for once. Rossi kissing her cheek. Layton and her, locking lips under a sprig of mistletoe held out by Alvez.
And a photo of Hotch reaching his hand out towards her, an expression of love on his face.
It wasn’t good for her healing process, she’d been told that enough times in the bureau-mandated therapy sessions, to act like Hotch and their relationship never existed. So, she kept a singular photo up, a small reminder to the happiest she’d ever been.
    Quantico, Virginia- November, 2017
Feelings of nostalgia rushed through him as he stepped out of the cold into the building, just as a tidal wave of hesitation crashed into him. Was this the right thing to do?
He could have stood in the doorway forever, but a call from a security member stirred him from his stupor. Too late to go back now. He could only hope that arriving a week before they expected him would catch them off-guard, enough to let him talk before completely shutting him down.
Cruz met him in the lobby with a welcoming smile. “Hey, Hotch.” He reached out for a hug, which he stiffly received. Mateo had always been a hugger, and three years away hadn’t changed that.
They pulled apart, and Hotch looked towards the elevator apprehensively. “They’re here?” he asked, turning back to Cruz, who nodded.
“Prentiss has only told some of them. We weren’t expecting you for another week, and she figured that it’d be best to wait until Monday to tell them.”
Hotch’s heart leapt into his throat at the mention of Emily, and his voice quivered a bit as he asked, “So, who knows?”
“Rossi. Garcia, who, as you know, will find anything out. JJ and Luke, I believe. Luke Alvez,” he clarified at Hotch’s cocked eyebrow. “He came in last year from the Fugitive Task Force after Agent Morgan resigned.”
Hotch almost choked on the coffee he had lifted to his mouth to drink. “When did Morgan leave?”
Cruz ushered him towards the elevators and pushed the button while explaining simply, “You’ve missed a lot, Aaron.”
It was salt in an already burning wound
“There’s also a new doctor in town, a Dr. Tara Lewis. She joined when Agent Callahan left. I think you’ll like her.” Cruz paused as they entered, thinking about the team. “Oh! And Matt Simmons.”
“From IRT?”
“Mhm. They disbanded, and he’s with us now. I think that’s it.”
Aaron was quiet, the news of how the team had changed settling on him. He fidgeted his feet and turned towards Cruz. “You aren’t a profiler, but give me your best thoughts. How does it look for my reception?”
The section chief was silent, turning away from him and towards the closed doors. He stared at the rising numbers and said, “Not good.”
A sharp “ding” sounded as the elevator stopped and the doors slid open. Hotch was very proud to say he only hesitated slightly in stepping out the silver doors and towards the glass walls of the bullpen.
He stopped at the door, where Cruz waved him goodbye, to stare at the team at their desks. JJ was perched on Reid’s desk, and a man he didn’t recognize was spinning in his chair while Spencer watched with a thinly veiled smile. A pretty black woman was pouring over a file splayed on the desk of Matt Simmons.
“Hotch?” a chirpy voice from behind him asked.
At the sound of his name, Aaron spun on his heel, suit jacket flying, and met the watering eyes of Penelope Garcia. She looked the same, but her smile lines were etched a little deeper. Her hand moved to cover them as she took in Hotch standing in front of her, shocked.
“I-I didn’t think you were going to be here for another week! You should have warned me!” she rushed towards him with outstretched arms, dropping the papers she had been carrying. “I wanted to make you a cake! And get Jack a present!”
She pulled away, placing her hands on both sides of his face and scanned his eyes. Bewildered, he looked back at her. A man slid past them into the office, balancing three cups of coffee in his hands.
“Just making sure you are real,” she said and stepped back onto the array of papers scattered across the glossy floor.
“Hi, Garcia,” he laughed, breathily, finally able to get a word in from her rambling.
“Hi!”
The time didn’t seem to diminish their relationship, but intuition told him that he wouldn’t be this well received by everyone else. You don’t just drop off the face of the planet and expect everything to be okay when you come back. It didn’t work for Prentiss, and Prentiss had a reason. What reason was he going to give?
“Come on, come on!” Penelope urged, pushing on his back, forgetting the papers she dropped. “The team is going to be so surprised! They don’t even know you’re the new team member!”
Weaving their fingers together, she tugged him through the glass doors, waving her other arm to get the attention of the others. Emily and Rossi had come down from their offices at this point, Prentiss taking a coffee from the man and planting a kiss on his cheek. Rossi made a show of doing the same, but still accepted his drink with a grateful smile.
Hotch would have frozen in his place, but the enigma that was Penelope continued to pull him towards the others. All the returning profiler could do was stare at the pair and their clasped hands.
Eight pairs of eyes turned to them as Garcia called, “Guys! Look who it is!”
Hotch didn’t have a lot of expectations for his reception, but a complete stillness somehow fell short of all of them. Penelope was similarly disappointed by the reaction and dragged him closer to the desks.
“Oh, come on,” she sighed as they made it to stand in front of them. She placed her hands on her hips and surveyed them with the air of a mother telling her children to hug an aunt they didn’t like. “It’s Hotch, people!”
With a wide grin and a teasing look to Garcia, the man Hotch didn’t recognize came over to them first, offering a hand out. Hotch tried to focus on him and not the open-mouthed faces of his former friends. Better to ignore it than confront it.
“Luke Alvez,” the man introduced brightly.
Hotch nodded in understanding. “You came from the Marshals?” At the nod he received, he forced a smile. “How’d we pin you down to the BAU?”
Luke gave a good-natured shrug. “Don’t ask me,” he laughed.
A slender hand was presented to him next. “Tara Lewis.”
“Doctor,” Hotch nodded and chuckled slightly at the shocked look she gave him. “Cruz told me.”
Matt was next to greet him, waving from his spot at his desk. “Hey, Aaron.”
“Matt. How are the kids?”
“More of a handful everyday,” Simmons smiled lightly. “How is yours?”
Hotch shrugged. “He’s old.” “Right? Where did the years go?”
As the conversation fizzled out, a feeling of stiffness floated into the room. Hotch could have cut the tension with a knife, and he was forced to look at the faces of the people he had been purposely looking away from.
Reid was far less clean cut than he had been when Aaron left. His face was no longer clean shaven, and he had grown his hair out. Somehow, his eyes expressed even more pain and exhaustion than three years prior. All those years ago, Hotch would have been able to read his emotions to a tee but with the new appearance and experiences, Reid’s thoughts were completely lost on Hotch.
JJ and Rossi were sporting similar smiles. JJ’s was melancholic, reflecting the history they used to have, and Rossi’s was understanding, somehow expressing that he understood Hotch’s need to leave. But JJ’s arms were crossed and her expression was guarded- she didn’t trust him anymore.
None of them did.
Prentiss’ face was wiped of emotion. Her grip on the man next to her had tightened, knuckles whitened. A stark contrast to Garcia, Emily’s frown lines had been etched deeper into her face and smile lines faded. Her eyes held none of the love that Hotch used to mirror, none of the joy that used to spark happiness in himself.
The man she was clutching onto didn’t seem to notice the tension that had filled the air, and offered a cheery smile to Hotch as he held out his hand. “Layton Gregory, Counter-intelligence.”
“Hello.” It was a stiff greeting but it was all that Hotch could spit out as he stared at his and Emily’s intertwined hands.
Gregory didn’t seem to care. “I’ve heard a lot about you.”
“All good things?”
“Nothing too bad,” the other man shrugged, and looked towards Emily with a frown. He didn’t seem to know that there was history, which Hotch took a mental note of. “Bye, babe. I’ve got to go, I just figured you’d want your afternoon coffee. Glad I could meet you,” he nodded to Aaron.
Pressing his lips onto Emily’s forehead, Layton waved to the team and Hotch, who, bar the returning member, waved back.
Rossi raised his cup at the agent’s retreating back. “I owe you the next one!”
Layton waved it off over his shoulder, and the door shut behind him softly. The attention was directed back to Hotch. Curious eyes took in his appearance, but spiteful ones turned away and back to their work.
Alvez handed a stack of manila files to Hotch, but stepped closer to whisper, “Prentiss isn’t too happy. I don’t know if there’s history here, but I think it’d be best to just let her simmer right now.” He stepped away and at regular volume told him, “Just a bunch of consulting right now. With you here, it should take less time- hopefully, at least.”
Hotch nodded, smiling grimly at the advice, and took the folders. He turned towards his former flame, willing explanations to give her into existence. Unsurprisingly, none came.
Giving him a quick up-and-down glance, Emily turned away from him without a word. If Hotch was paying attention-- which he was-- he would have seen her turn back and swipe quickly at her cheeks before turning back around. The door that shut behind her wasn’t as quiet as her boyfriend’s.
JJ slowly drew her eyesight from Emily’s shut door back to Hotch. “It’s nice to have you back, Hotch.” Her voice didn’t exactly convey the same message, but she did reach out and rub his arm gently. “Emily’s had a tough time since you left. It wasn’t… easy for her, to say the least.”
“It wasn’t easy for me, either,” came Hotch’s weak explanation.
“Yeah, you don’t get that option!” she snapped, anger she had been harboring since he left rising to the surface. “You left, not us! If it was hard,” she did air quotes with her fingers, “you shouldn’t have done it! Why did you leave?”
He couldn’t answer her.
“Yeah.” JJ turned away and back to the paper she had crushed. She sounded vindictive, for what, Hotch was unaware. He assumed she was probably angry for the pain he had caused her and Emily and the team as a whole.
“Hey, Reid,” Hotch greeted softly as he crossed to the other side of the room, standing next to Rossi, who placed a kind hand across his shoulders.
The young man didn’t verbally acknowledge him, rather he just nodded. His eyes never shifted from the report in front of him. That was the best Hotch was going to get and he knew it.
Rossi moved him towards the stairs, mentioning something about a drink to catch up. His words were barely heard over the rush of blood in Hotch’s head. He could barely believe that these were the same people he had worked with for so many years. They just seemed like… shells of their former selves- placeholders put here to replace them.
As they passed the windows to the office of the Unit Chief, Hotch couldn’t help but glance in on his former safe haven. Emily was stooped over her desk, rapping a framed photo with one of her knuckles, words he couldn’t hear spilling from her mouth.
He’d forgotten how beautiful she was. Of course, he took pictures and vivid memories of her filled his head at all times, but nothing compared to her in person. Raven hair fell into her face and she pushed it behind her ear with a delicate finger, only for it to fall back. Hotch remembered countless times where he had done the same thing for her, brushing a gentle hand against her face to push her hair back.
But that was gone now, and there was no way that he would be given that opportunity again.
Rossi set a bottle of sloshing liquid on his desk between them and slid a glass to him. “Drink. You’ll need it.”
“It’s,” he glanced at his watch, “only three.”
He was answered with a cocked eyebrow. “Are you really trying to tell me that you don’t want some?”
His glass was filled, but it remained untouched on the desk.
“How are you?” Rossi asked, leaning back into his chair.
Hotch straightened his back. “I’m okay. I didn’t think I’d ever actually see this place again.”
“I didn’t think I’d see you.”
“Touché.”
The room hadn’t changed much in the years since Hotch had seen it. It still reeked of Rossi, but it was just a little more hectic than it used to be. Papers were crammed into the bookshelves, no clear organization. The tv and game console set were new, something Hotch recognized from an ad Jack had shown him in an attempt for a birthday present.
Rossi hesitated before asking his question, the bond of complete transparency diminished in the years. “Do you… can you talk about it?”
There wasn’t an immediate response. The drink was swirled in the glass, but Hotch still didn’t take a drink.
“I had to leave. Uh, after Scratch got me, he put me under those drugs. I guess he was trying to see what I would do, I don’t know. Everything I’ve ever loved was ripped away from me in these… visions, I guess they could be called. You guys, Jack, Emily.” He pursed his lips. “I had to leave. I couldn’t let that happen.”
Rossi rested his chin on his outstretched index fingers. “Emily.”
“Emily.”
They sat in companionable silence, although they could barely be considered that anymore. Rossi nursed his drink, and Hotch did not, electing to stare out the window into the bullpen and watch the team work.
“What happened?” he asked.
Rossi shook his head. “What didn’t happen is the better question. They’ve gone through a lot in the past few years, and so have you. It’s just going to be like walking on eggshells for a while. You’ll never know when any of them reach their breaking point.”
Prentiss had left the recluse of her office and returned to the bullpen. She and Tara were talking over a case file Tara had splayed in her hands. Aaron couldn’t tear his eyes off of her.
“Aaron?”
“I never would have thought she’d get with someone else,” he answered softly to a question that was never asked. He still didn’t look away.
“Okay.” The sharpness of Dave’s voice shocked Hotch enough to make him turn back. “Do you really think you are the end all, be all? What, did you think everything would stay the same for three years? You left, Aaron! She moved on! We all did! We didn’t know if you were ever going to return so we had to live as such!”
It was quiet enough in the office after Rossi’s outburst that Hotch could hear his own blinking. “I know.”
“Then act like it!” JJ clearly wasn’t the only one with pent up anger, but Rossi’s was a softer anger. There was no malice behind his words. “I understand why you left, we all have that moment where every fiber of our being is telling us to leave, to pack up and change our name and move to Buenos Aires.”
Hotch squinted at the ranting man. “The Buenos Aires part might just be you, Dave.”
“Maybe so. The thing is, Hotch, that Emily could barely stand when you disappeared. She was so weak with stress that her body literally shut down for a little bit. And we couldn’t help her. She was destroyed when you left.”
There weren’t enough words to describe the pain that Hotch felt at Rossi’s story. The thought of his Emily-- no, she wasn’t his anymore, he made sure of that-- suffering that much because of something he did was unbearable.
“But Emily is a fighter. She got better, she moved on. She took over as Unit Chief, she moved into that office, and she took charge, almost like she was made for it. Do you want to know how long it took Garcia to convince her to go out to a club?”
Hotch shook his head.
“I don’t know because it still hasn’t happened. That fun Emily we all knew died when you left. She doesn’t go out to party or club like she used to. All she does is work, eat, and maybe sleep.” Rossi shot a look out the window. “I mean, for God’s sake, she’s dating someone from work, she didn’t even go out and meet a normal person!”
“What can I do?” Hotch’s voice was rough.
A shrug was his reply. “I don’t know. We’re all a little like that. She just took it the hardest because she loved you the most. If you had popped the question, she would have married you back then. Can you imagine that? Emily Prentiss, married?”
A million tiny images of what life could have been flew through Hotch’s mind of Emily in a flowing white dress walking towards him. He could imagine that, very easily.
The class clanged as Rossi set it down. “I think you just have to remember that we aren’t the same people anymore. That’s,” he pointed out the window, “not the same Emily. And I don’t think you’ll be getting that one back. I never could.”
Hotch sunk deeper into his chair and followed Rossi’s finger to below them. Prentiss was smiling, but it wasn’t at him like it used to be. And he didn’t think it would be for a very long time.

Spencer Reid x Reader x Maxine Brenner
Hey guys I’m back! Sorry if this story is bad bcs all those common vocabs I’ve been using over and over. I hope you enjoy!
Masterlist
-
Leaving Quantico wasn’t the best option for your life but you had to. Your parents were divorced and they leaved your little twin brother and sister alone. They abandoned them and left town. What kind of parents were they? Your siblings were on young age to suffer this kind of life. You moved because you the only one family they had. You had to be surrogate parents for them.
So all you had to do was moved to New York started a new life and leaved your previous life before. You filled transferred form and gave it to chief unit, then you moved to FBI Field Office.
It wasn’t easy for you to leave your team. They were the best team for the past 8 years. Everything you been through, you shared with them. You couldn’t hold your tears when you told them about you moving out. Especially to your ex, Spencer. You two were a thing for years. It wasn’t really a boyfriend girlfriend thing, but the feeling between you were strong.
You remembered when you talked to him, you said that we had to end this relationship between us, because you didn’t believe in long distance relationship. He hugged you while cried and you said to him that he could find someone else, but you hope that he would wait for you until your siblings step on college and you might move back to Quantico. He nodded and you left the building.
3 years passed, your siblings finally stepped on college, and fortunately they both got into Georgetown University in Washington. What a coincidence for you to moved back to your old life, in Quantico. So you and your siblings moved out from New York, to your old apartment, which was lucky for you no one lives there. You helped them packed their needs to stayed at dorm at their college.
You already sumbit the transfer file to Headquarter and within days, you’ll be back on duty.
“Kids, i’ll be gone for hours. I need to go to the Headquarters to sign several documents. Order whatever you wants, okay?” You informed them and they nodded. You kissed their forehead and leave building.
On your way to office, you felt your stomach hurt, your palm sweaty, nauseous, the common feeling when you anxiety. Not because you will meet your friends. But it was because of Spencer. 3 years no contact, what will happened when you meet him?
Hours passed and you finally made it to the building. You walked to lift and press level 8 button to the Director office first to sign some papers. After it finished, you headed back to lift and press level 6.
The lift open and you walked out. You slowly examine the this level 6 which brought you back to the old memories. Nothings changed. Everything was still the same. You pushed the glass door and and you found your old teammate were gathered and lauged together. Until Emily’s eyes caught your presence.
“YLN?” When she mention your name, all the teams eyes stared on you. “YLN.” She call out your name second time and she hugged you.
“YLN YLN YLN!!!” Garcia was the one who yelled your name and hugged you as well. “OMG YLN i was thinking about you like minutes ago and now you were standing before me you black raven hair.” She pulled the hug and stared you like you were a fugitive.
Then you hugged Rossi. “I can’t believe i had a chance to see you again, young lady.” You smiled and pulled the hug.
“YN, it’s been a years. You haven’t changed a bit.” Tara greet you and gave you a brief hug.
Then you hugged JJ, longer than everyone. “Finally meeting you in flesh and bones. No longer video calls for us.”
Then you shook hand with Matt Simmons and Luke Alvez, new members of the team. And they told you that Morgan quit from bureau, he married and has a son, Hotch out because he was stalked by unsub. Damn, you missed so many things that happened to the team.
“Wait JJ, what do you mean no longer video calls with YN?” Tara asked JJ. She smiled and winked at you.
You showed them the papers you been hold since you got there. “I’m transferred back in here.” Everyone cheered included Simmons and Alvez. “So... what’s the occasion you guys laughed minutes ago?” When you asked the question, suddenly they went silent. “And... where’s Spencer?”
“Oh he went out w-“ before Simmons could finished, Emily interruped him.
“Uhm... why don’t you come to my office and handed me the files of your transferred.” You furrowed your eyebrows but you followed her.
Behind you, Alvez asked whispered. “What’s the matter? Why Emily cut Simmons?”
“Newbie, you couldn’t asked that question. Don’t you guys know Spencer was her ex. They were dating long ago before YN moved out of town.” Garcia explained to them who didn’t know.
In the other side, you sat on chair and gave her the files. “So, how’s the twins, Malcolm and Melody?” Emily asked while she open the files.
You smiled. “They’ve been better, Em. They never disappointed me as a sister. Yeah, sometimes they disobeyed me, but they just kids.”
After a long conversation with Emily, you out of her room and walked to the lift, because you’d get back to your place. The door was open and when you about to enter, you stopped because you saw a couple kissing. Your intention was to looked away, but you ended up looked at the man who kissed the woman. The familiar face even his face was seen half. Your jaw dropped when he pulled the kissed and started you in disbelief. “YN?” “YN.” He called your name twice, but the tone when he called you the second time was weak.
“Spencer...,” you called his name in whispered.
“Spencer, who’s this? You knew her?” The woman beside her started to asked Spencer because the tension has begun between three of you. “Hi I’m Max, you must be Spencer’s friends, right?” She asked you friendly even thought she knew things were not right.
Spencer couldn’t speak any word because he shocked you just stood before him without warning. Then Max pushed him out of lift. “I’ll meet you downstairs. Go get what you need.” She smiled and the door was closed.
“So...,” you braced up and started the conversation. “Is she... your...?” You couldn’t finished the simple question you supposed to asked, but you knew he knew the rest of the question. He nodded. “I thought you... nevermind.” You walked fast to the lift which happened to be opened on the right time and leave him alone.

Omg you made me so happy with that story of Eliza, now I know this is a stretch but can we get a update on Halloween where you left off with them going trick or treating with everyone🥺🙈 ?
Ask and you shall receive, anon! I really never get tired of writing Spencer and Bianca, and I really didn’t give myself the space to explore what their lives as parents would look like so it was fun to to take that a little further with this one! Here’s just some pure domestic Halloween fluff.
----
They arrived at JJ’s house just as the sun was beginning to paint the autumn sky golden. Before the door had even opened, they could hear Henry shout, “Mom! They’re here!” Seconds later it swung open, and Henry, dressed in red, white, and blue, greeted them with a grin. “Hi Uncle Spence! Hi Aunt Bianca!” He gave each of them a quick hug. “Wow, you brought a tiger!”
“It’s me!” Eliza said, giggling. Henry pretended to be shocked as she threw her arms around them.
“Let me guess… Captain America, right?” Spencer asked as they stepped inside.
“Yeah, he’s my favorite superhero!” Henry’s excitement faltered for a moment and he straightened up a little taller. “I mean, I know I’m kind of old to go trick-or-treating, but I promised Michael I’d come.”
“Henry, if I have taught you anything you should know by now that you’re never too old for Halloween,” Spencer replied.
His words brought a smile back to Henry’s face and he said, “Wait till you see my shield! I painted it all by myself!”
The inside of the LaMontagne-Jareau househould was already bustling. JJ, dressed as Black Widow, was finishing Michael’s Hulk-green face paint. Hotch and Jack had moved back to the DC area two years earlier, and Garcia was excitedly talking to Jack and his girlfriend Mabel. The two teens had donned the costumes of Ben Solo and Rey from Star Wars, while the BAU’s former tech wizard wore a bright pink dress and golden crown as Princess Peach. Hotch and Beth, masquerading as Han Solo and Princess Leia, were being regaled by one of Rossi’s stories while Krystall laughed. Rossi’s suit and tie didn’t quite make sense as a costume until Bianca realized that Krystall’s white dress and curled hair made her Marilyn Monroe, and Rossi must have been JFK.
“It’s about time you showed up Pretty Boy!” Morgan quickly cut through the room to make his way to them, ruffling Spencer’s hair. “And my favorite little lady,” he said, embracing Bianca. Then squatting down to Eliza’s height, “And littlest lady, too, Miss Eliza Lou!”
He lifted Elizabeth up into his arms. “Why do you have hair Uncle Derek?” she asked, pointing to Morgan’s head.
“Because zombie Michael Jackson has hair in the “Thriller” music video,” he replied, as though that context meant anything to a five year old. “And that’s who I’m dressed as for Halloween.”
“You look funny with hair,” the little girl replied.
Morgan put his free hand over his chest, and feigned melodramatic offense. “Oh, ouch! You wound me, Eliza Lou!” Eliza giggled as her godfather set her back on the ground. “Now what exactly are you two supposed to be?” he asked, gesturing between Spencer and Bianca.
Spencer wore a red zippered sweater with a tie and blue Converse, while Bianca had on a floral pink 70’s style prairie dress. “It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood,” Spencer replied.
When Morgan just raised an eyebrow, Bianca said, “Mr. Rogers and Lady Aberlin, from Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood!”
“You see,” Reid explained, “Elizabeth had her heart set on being a tiger, so we tried to come up with costumes that could go along with it. And Fred Rogers used a number of puppets on Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood to help act out situations of learning and vulnerability in healthy ways, one of which was Daniel Striped Tiger who was the most recognizable from the show. It’s actually funny, the tiger puppet was a gift to Mr. Rogers the night before the very first episode was s-”
“I get it,” Morgan said, holding up a hand. “I’ll read the Wikipedia article later, I promise.”
“Oh come on now, babe, I think it’s cute.” Savannah appeared beside her husband, linking her arm with his. “It’s good to see you two.” She still wore nurse’s scrubs and had a stethoscope around her neck.
“Did you just come from work?” Bianca asked. Savannah and Morgan’s daughter, Ainslie, had just turned one and Savannah had gone back to full-time shifts at the hospital.
Savannah laughed, shaking her head. “Thank god, no. Hank wanted to be a zombie, so Derek came up with the idea of going as “Thriller” MJ to match. I figured if it’s the zombie apocalypse in our household, I might as well be the nurse on the frontlines trying to fight them off.”
“Uh oh,” Morgan said. “I don’t know how long you’ll last out there. The zombies are pretty handsome, I hear.” He kissed her cheek as she rolled her eyes. Turning back to the Reids, he asked, “So are we ready to take on trick or treating?”
Bianca winked. “Well Spencer here was born ready, and I think that after seven Halloweens together I’ve learned a thing or two.” The four of them had been chosen as the designated chaperones for the kid’s festivities while the rest of the adults finished up a Halloween feast at the house. Once all the kids were accounted for and everyone had a pillowcase in hand, they set out into the DC streets in search of spooks and sweets.
Spencer’s boundless enthusiasm was contagious, spreading even to Jack who seemed torn between being excited about Halloween and trying to look cool in front of Mabel. But once it became clear Mabel was into the scary stories Spencer told while they walked, Hotch’s son visibly relaxed. It was a good group of kids – at every house Henry, Jack, and Mabel made sure that Michael, Hank, and Eliza got candy first, and a chorus of thank you!s followed them from doorstep to doorstep.
Spencer’s delight for the present was carrying over to the future. “When she’s a little older,” he was saying, “we can go to a haunted house or two. Maybe even a haunted corn maze. And we can watch a midnight scary movie screening and she’ll be able to carve her own pumpkins!” Bianca laughed and he glanced her way, bashful. “What?”
“I just love seeing you excited about this,” she said. His eyes always lit up in a way that made her heart skip a beat after all this time. “And thinking about all the holidays we’re going to have together and how we’ll get to make all these new traditions as she grows up.”
Spencer stopped suddenly on the sidewalk and before she could react he was hugging her close. The fabric of his sweater was soft against her cheek. “What was that for?” she asked him, looking up, her arms still wrapped around his waist.
“I wouldn’t be doing any of this without you,” he said. “I would probably still be at the BAU. I wouldn’t have anything worth leaving for. I wouldn’t have someone I get excited about growing old with. But I have a home because I have you. I have a home and someone who will plan obscure Halloween costumes with me and I have a daughter and it’s all because I fell in love with you. Because you loved me.”
“And because you loved me,” she echoed. She wouldn’t have wanted it with anyone else. He was the only person who made her feel safe enough to trust him with every part of her. He made her feel brave enough to take on the world and to start a family. When nothing else made sense, he was there to anchor her with a warm embrace and all the words she needed to hear and promises to stay. He knew her better than she knew herself. Bianca stood on her toes to kiss him sweetly, not caring that there were people all around them.
“When you two are done being all lovey-dovey,” Morgan called, “we’ve still got one more block to hit.”
“Lovey-dovey, lovey-dovey!” Eliza sang, skipping beside them. Spencer smiled and kissed Bianca’s forehead as he interlaced his fingers through hers with one hand and reached down to hold their daughter’s hand with the other. When the final houses had been visited, they descended upon the LaMontagne-Jareau household once more, with pillowcases full of candy.
During their absence, more familiar faces had appeared at the house. Prentiss and Mendoza were drinking wine with Rossi in the living room and Luke, dressed as Mario, had his arm around Penelope while they talked with three of the newer BAU members.
“Aunt Alex!” Eliza’s bag of candy was temporarily forgotten as she ran to hug Alex Blake who was at the kitchen table with JJ, Will, and her husband James.
“Why Elizabeth,” she said, “aren’t you the most ferocious tiger I’ve ever seen?”
“I’ve been practicing!” Eliza replied. She furrowed her eyebrows and held her hands up by her face like claws. “Rarr!” Her godmother gave her around of applause for her performance, happily doting on her while everyone gathered around the table for dinner.
It was warm and inviting in the living room, feeling every bit like a cheerful Thanksgiving dinner except for the costumes and the spooky decorations. There was plenty to be discussed, whether it was Emily’s new position as Director of the Bureau or the book Rossi and Matt had just published. The Simmons clan were the only ones absent, their children having made plans already to spend Halloween with their friends in their own neighborhood. Bianca felt right at home among the people who had come to feel as much her family as they were Spencer’s. She swapped stories of international travels with Alex and James and was delighted to talk to Tara and her girlfriend, Elena. The two women were dressed as Cinderella and Prince Charming, and she had to admit that Tara could certainly pull off a suit. When Penelope begged Morgan for a chance to babysit Hank and Ainslie soon and Rossi said, “You know you could just have some of your own,” she and Luke both turned red.
“Hey now,” Luke said. “We’re just trying to get through the wedding first, okay?”
“Yeah, you never know, I could still change my mind,” Garcia teased, elbowing her fiancé.
“You say that at least once a month,” Luke laughed. “But I don’t think we can get our deposit back on the venue at this point, so it looks like you’re stuck with me.”
There was enough food and to go around, and a generous amount of libations courtesy of David Rossi. Bianca’s contribution was an array of desserts – pumpkin cheesecake, salted caramel brownies, and chocolate cupcakes with vampire fangs and raspberry filling – that were immediate hits, and Spencer’s contribution was agreeing not to consume them before the party. After dinner the kids went down to the basement to watch Hocus Pocus, Jack and Henry promising they’d look after everyone, while the adults settled into the living room.
“Eliza,” Bianca called. “How about you pick out a few pieces of candy for now, and we’ll keep the rest up here so you can have some later, okay?” The little girl was about to follow her cousins downstairs with her whole bag of sugary treasures. “If you eat too much candy at once you’ll get a bellyache.”
Eliza considered this, then nodded. “Okay, mama.” She dug through the pillowcase, choosing a few treats, then handed the bag back to her mother asking, “But how come daddy gets to?” She pointed to Spencer who sat on the floor of the living room, gorging himself on a plate of sweets. He looked up sheepishly, caught red-handed about to take a bite of oversized brownie.
“It’s because I’m old enough to anticipate the consequences of my actions,” he said. “I know when to stop before I feel sick.”
“You go have fun with your cousins, okay?” Bianca said, giving her daughter a quick hug before watching the tail of the tiger costume vanish the stairs. She sat down next to Spencer, shaking her head. “You’re such a bad liar,” she laughed. “You’ll be complaining all night that you feel awful.”
He shrugged. “What can I say? I just can’t help myself around something sweet.” Spencer put his arms around her waist and pulled her into his lap, leaning in to kiss her. “See?”
She smiled. “You’re lucky, Mr. Rogers, that I like you just the way you are. Insatiable sweet tooth and all.”
Spencer grinned. “It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood.” Mimicking the song from the old children’s show, he sang, “Would you be mine? Could you be mine?”
“You know what my answer is,” she said. She let her head fall against his shoulder. Nestled close in his embrace, she sat listening to the BAU recount stories of the glory days and valiant acts of the past. Spencer traced circles on the back of her hand, resting his cheek against the top of her head with a sigh of contentment, and she knew he was thinking the same thing she was – that there was a relief in knowing that the monsters were in only in their yesterdays and nightmares. That there was no danger waiting around the corner for him anymore. Nothing to steal him away too soon. There were endless tomorrows stretching out ahead of them, but for now they could reminisce with the family that had been built by that shared past. And Bianca could think of few sweeter treats than that.

MASTERLIST
A/N: Thank you to everyone who comments, votes, and re-blogs! Ask to be added to the taglist. I meant to put this out on Wednesday, sorry.
8/29/2019
Your plane landed earlier that morning but you didn’t get to the BAU until 10. You had to drop Jason off at your mother’s house and catch up with her for a little bit. When you did finally make it to the BAU, you stopped at the door. You never hesitated about anything in your life, but there was something in your gut that was warning you from going in. You didn’t listen to it. These people were your family; they stuck with you through thick and thin.
The hallways were empty, abnormally so. The ding of the elevator brought back memories of your first day. The silence in the bullpen made your stomach twist. You looked toward the conference room and saw your old friends talking about the case. You hadn’t changed much, but you had changed. At first glance they probably wouldn’t recognize you. You had gained a little weight and your hair was darker, but other than that, you were still you.
Your steps were light as you walked up the stairs. The pit in your stomach grew deeper the closer you got. “Right now, she's a fixed variable. We need to focus on identifying the unsub and her victims.” Even though you hadn’t seen her in about two years, you could still recognize Emily’s voice.
“One of them is Lucia Gomez,” you pointed to the distorted image of your friend on the screen. The look on their faces was something you’d never forget.
“Oh my god,” Penelope whispered. You watched as tears rolled down her cheeks. The room was silent after that. No one wanted to be the first to speak, or they couldn’t. They were all in varying states of disbelief. Matt and Luke seemed more confused than anything. Rossi and Tara were stoned faced. They weren’t smiling, but they weren’t scowling. JJ and Emily hung their heads and fiddled with their hands. Penelope was crying in her seat, you could see her trying to pull herself together but she was losing control. You couldn’t tell what Spence was feeling. He didn’t dare turn around and look you in the eyes, after all you were dead to him.
“I’m sorry,” you whispered. You took one step closer to him and went to place your hand on his shoulder, but he beat you to it. He whipped around, looked you dead in the eyes, and brought his hand down across your face. You fell to your knees and watched through teary eyes as he stormed out of the room.
JJ started to rush after him, “Spence!” she shouted.
“JJ,” you managed to squeak out, “don’t.” You brought your hand up to your stinging cheek and covered it. Matt rushed over and helped you stand up. “Thank you,” you wrapped him in a quick hug. Emily tapped your shoulder and escorted you to her office.
“Y/N, are you sure you want to be here?” she sighed as she shut the door and walked back to her desk. “Spence clearly isn’t ready for you to be back.”
“I know,” you kept touching your cheek, seeing if it still hurt. “He’s been through a lot and I always stayed by his side. He’ll forgive me eventually.” You could feel tears returning to your eyes so you quickly left her office. You passed the concerned faces of your colleagues as you made your way to the bathroom. If they knew you well enough they wouldn’t follow you in.
You spent the next few minutes giving yourself a small pep talk and regaining your composure. You wiped the tears from your cheek and made your way back to the bullpen.
“What are we working with?” you sniffled as you grabbed the chair closest to you and sat down. The few seconds of silence that followed your question almost killed you. Everyone in that room stared at you like they had just seen a ghost.
Finally, Simmons broke the silence, “Three people were kidnapped by that unsub,” he pointed to the photo of four people on the screen. “She gave us her demands, ‘release Cat Adams in 24 hours. Cat is in the interrogation room now.”
“What does Cat want?” you furrowed your brow as you looked through the file in front of you.
“We don’t know yet,” Matt finished.
Garcia came running into the room with a panicked look on her face, “Someone put up wanted posters downtown with my number on them.”
“Alright, me and Luke can check that out,” Tara smiled as she stood from the table and left the room. Garcia followed the two of them leaving you, Matt, JJ, and Rossi.
As the time passed you tried to distance yourself from the team. Tensions were high and nobody really knew what to do. Spence passed your desk from time to time as he walked to and from Emily's office. When it came time for he and Cat to go on their ‘date’, Emily forced you to stay out of sight. You watched from afar as your husband(?) got into the elevator with his own worst nightmare. They disappeared and the team got back to work. With Spencer out of the way it was easier for you to re-adjust to the BAU. You didn’t want to be in anyone's way so you stayed at your desk. The team came and went, but you stayed put. You watched and waited for hours, but eventually everyone came back.
You had heard whispers from the team that Reid was dating someone new, but you didn’t know for sure, until she stepped off the elevator. She had short blonde hair and brown eyes. She looked familiar, but you couldn’t put your finger on it. Spence arrived shortly after her. You watched from your desk as the team told Reid of their master plan. You watched his face as they talked. He looked at her the way he used to look at you. Your heart hurt as they all laughed together, but hey, at least they were happy. Before you started crying, you grabbed your bag and started for the elevator. Rossi caught up with you before you could leave. “Can you help me with something?” You nodded and followed him to his office. You waited in the doorway as he grabbed a small screwdriver from his desk.
You followed him to the elevator’s hallway and to the wall of fallen agents. You stood there in silence as he unscrewed your photo from the wall and handed it to you. He was the only one treating you like a person anymore. You quickly wrapped your arms around him and started to sob into his shoulder. He let you cry for a few minutes before your eyes ran dry. He took your face in your hands and wiped away your tears. “Do you need a place to stay?” he asked as the two of you walked back.
“Are you sure?” you smiled. “I don’t want Jason to wake you up.”
Rossi stopped dead in his tracks. You looked at him confused before a smile crept across his face, “Did you name your son Jason?” You nodded. “You’re welcome to stay as long as you need.”

Friday
Kristy headed up to see her grandparents on Thursday afternoon, promising to be back on Saturday, which meant Matt was at home taking care of the kids. He loved when he got to spend time with them because he felt like he missed so much of their lives due to work.
He was used to 4 kids but now that Rose was born, he had his hands full. The two boys, Jake and David were troublemakers. They were never quiet and if they were, you knew something was up. LIly and Chloe loved to colour and draw - on anything they see, including the walls. Rose was only a few months old and she didn’t cause much trouble unless she decided to cry - she had a strong set of lungs.
It was only a little past 6pm when Matt called in reinforcement.
“Hello ?” his voice rang through the phone as Matt rocked Rose back and forth.
“Hey man, I know it’s our weekend off but I was wondering if you’d be able to come over and help me?”
“Is everything okay?” Luke asks him, voice filled with concern.
“I- technically yes. Kristy went up to see her grandparents for the weekend and I've got all of the kids here with me and I underestimated how much work this was gonna be” Matt sighs, setting Rose down gently in the crib.
Luke laughs, already tossing some clothes into a duffle bag. “I’ll be there soon. Do you need me to bring anything ?”
“No, I'm good. Thank you”
They had each other’s backs in the field, surely Luke would have his back now. How hard could it be for 2 grown men to take care of 5 children ?
Can’t be that hard.
It wasn’t long before Luke showed up at his doorstep, duffle bag over one shoulder and box of pizza in the other hand.
“I wasn’t sure if you had made dinner yet” Luke smiled at his friend when he opened the door.
“You’re a heaven sent” Matt chuckled, stepping aside and letting Luke come in. “I really appreciate you spending your weekend here. I’m sure you have better things to do with your time.”
“No worries man, really didn’t” He laughs, setting the box on the table. “Where’d you leave Roxy ?” Matt goes to get the plates from the cupboard after calling for the kids.
“Penelope was more than happy to watch her. She also said to tell you that she sends her love” he smiles.
David and Jake were the first two into the kitchen. “Uncle Luke!” they shouted together, tackling him in a hug. The 2 boys were on the floor on top of Luke who was laughing and hugging them.
“Hey guys, I brought pizza.” The boys perked up at the mention of pizza, the way to a boy’s heart really was through their stomach. The twins came running in next, clothes covered in marker and crayon.
“Dinner ?” Lily looked at her dad, he lifted her up onto a chair and then repeated the action with Chloe.
The kids were all seated and eating, Matt and Luke sat on opposite ends on the table. David and Jake were telling them about the fire drill they had at school.
“So we got to go in the truck and press the sirens” David says between chews, Jake nods. “Yeah! And- and we tried to roll the hose and it was so heavy dad!”
Rose begins crying just as Matt goes to answer the boys. He lets out a deep sigh and goes to get up but Luke beats him to it. “I’ve got her, finish eating” he tells him, patting his shoulder as he passes by him and heads up the stairs to her nursery.
Rose was still in her swaddle, crying her lungs out. Luke picked her up carefully and set her on the changing table before undoing her swaddle. He watched as she stretched, her little arms raising above her head.
“Hi mama, how was your nap?” he cooed, smiling at Rose as he picked her back up. He returned downstairs with her in his arms, watching as the kids ran out the back door and into the yard.
“Half an hour! Then I want all of you inside and getting ready for bed!” Matt shouted, propping the door open. Matt turned to see Luke behind him, “hi my love” his hand reached out and rubbed her back softly.
She made a little sound before Luke sat on the couch with her. Matt steps outside when Jake calls him to help set up the soccer net they had. Matt then gets roped into playing with them and next thing you know, it’s 9pm and the 5 of them are running inside as the rain comes down.
“Alright, go wash up and change. I’ll be up to tuck you in” he smiles at the kids as they make their way up the stairs.
It was unusually quiet in the living room, an odd occurrence in the Simmons’ house in general. Matt was just about to go check on Luke and Rose when his phone chimes.
From Kristy: Hey babe, how’s everything going ?
To Kristy: Fine for now, called in reinforcements
From Kristy: Who’d want to get roped into helping you watch the kids for the weekend ?
Matt was texting her back as he made his way over to see Luke passed out flat on the couch with Rose who’s also asleep against his chest. He smiles to himself and snaps a photo for Kristy.
To Kristy: *1 Image Attachment* He did
From Kristy: Oh my god adorable
From Kristy: Give the kids my love, I love you.
To Kristy: I love you too
Matt left Luke on the couch with Rose, heading up to tuck the 4 kids into bed.
Saturday
Saturdays were always busy in the Simmons house. Both Jake and David had soccer practice at 10am while Lily and Chloe had to be at dance class at 10:30.
Matt looked at the schedule Kristy had left on the fridge in despair and fear. “Okay, how am I gonna do this?” he mumbled, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“Anything I can do ?” Luke’s voice startled him for a second. Of course Matt knew he was in the house but he didn’t think he would be up already.
“I don’t know how Kristy does it,” Matt admits, facing his friend. Luke gave him a smile while pouring himself a cup of coffee. “What’s on the schedule for today ?”
“Jake and David have soccer at 10 and the girls have dance class at 10:30.. on the opposite ends of town” he sighs, glancing back at the schedule.
“I have my car, you know. I could take the girls if you want ?” Luke offered, Matt paused- Luke did come over to help him but he felt bad to ask him to do that.
“Are you sure ?” “Yeah man, it’s no problem”
The sound of footsteps filled the house moments later, the 4 kids coming down the stairs and began asking what was for breakfast. Matt and Luke got them settled in for breakfast, explaining to them what the plan for the day is.
Matt headed up to get Rose changed and ready for the day seeing that she can’t do it herself.
“I’m taking the girls to dance class and your dad is taking you two to soccer practice” Luke explains as the two boys help him clear the table. Jake and David were bickering about who could kick the ball from one end of the field into the goal.
“Go grab your gear, we’re leaving in a few.” Matt smiles, stepping back into the kitchen. “See if your sisters are ready too!” he shouted after the running boys.
Within a few minutes, everyone was out the door. Lily and Chloe strapped into their seats, Matt giving them a quick kiss to the cheek each before letting them go off with Luke. Jake, David and Rose were with him, on their way to soccer practice.
---
The day went by pretty quickly. From soccer practices to dance class and then home to shower and head back out because Matt had promised to take them to the park. By the time they finally got home from the park, the kids were coming down from a sugar high due to the ice cream and junk food Luke had bribed them with while Matt wasn’t looking.
They had stopped for something to eat mid way through their park trip, meaning that none of them were hungry except for Rose who needed a bath and a bottle before bed.
“Can we watch a movie?” Jake asked his father, and his siblings joined him. The 4 of them looking up at their father, their best puppy dog eyes and pouts in their little faces.
Matt chuckled, smiling at his kids, “what would mom say if you tried that ?” a chorus of “yes” and “yeah” filling the house. Matt paused, he knew Kristy would send them up to get ready for bed but he was the cool parent or so he thought. He felt like he should say yes just because he didn’t spend as much time as he wanted to with them.
“Fine but only one movie. Go pick while I get Rose ready for bed. If you need help with popcorn, ask Luke”
“Uncle Luke!” Lily and Chloe shout, running towards the kitchen as the boys go in the other direction towards the couch.
When Matt returns, the house is quiet. He swears he wasn’t up there that long. “Guys?” he calls, making the way through the house. Luke whispers for him to be quiet as he steps into the living room.
The kids are all passed out on the blanket fort they made on the floor. Matt smiles, letting out a sigh as he sinks into the couch next to Luke. “How long have they been out ?”
“15- maybe 20 minutes” Luke hums, scrolling through his phone. “Who are you so into texting right now ?” Matt asks him.
Luke glances up at Matt over his phone, a slight red tint on his cheeks. “Oh, um- it’s just- it’s Garcia”
Matt hums, “Huh, how are things with Roxy ?”
“Roxy ?” Luke questions, mind obviously blank for a moment.
“Your dog?”
“Oh! She’s fine” he trails off, like he wasn’t sure about his answer.
Matt chuckles, smiling at his love struck friend. It has been a few weeks since Penelope left the BAU and everyone had heard about their date, so it was only itne until they officially became a couple. Matt knew Luke and Penelope were mostly definitely not talking about Roxy based on that blush on his cheek.
“Your wife is superwoman by the way” Luke mumbels, eyes still on his phone.
“Hm ?”
“Taking care of 5 kids while working and being by herself for most of the time ?” Luke drops the phone on his lap. “She’s superwoman.”
Matt smiles, “yeah, she is.”
“Glad you both think so” a voice says behind them. Both men jump, their reflexes kicking in as they stand and turn towards the voice. Kristy is standing behind the couch, her hands up playfully.
“Didn’t mean to scare you two” she smiles, making her way over to give Matt a hug. “Thank you for helping him,” Kristy smiles at Luke, “you’re more than welcome to spend the night if you’d like but we have it covered if you want to go.”
“I think he’s got somewhere to be” Matt pipes up, Luke’s brows furrowed looking back at Matt. “I do ?” he questions.
“I believe there’s a blonde technical analyst waiting for you somewhere.”
“You know ?” Luke smiles, the amusement evident on his face.
“I figured it out first,'' Kristy says proudly. Matt laughs softly, “it’s true, she did”
Luke smiles at the couple, saying goodnight to them before picking up his bag. Matt walks in outside to his car, leaving Kristy inside with the kids.
“Tell the kids I said goodbye, okay ? i’ll come by another say and hangout with them or if you and Kristy need a night, I’m more than happy to take them”
“Think you can handle all 5 of them ?” Matt’s brow raises, his arms folded across his chest.
“I’ll probably get some help from a blonde technical analyst.” Luke laughs.

Double Dates part 3
Chapter 3: Game time
On Monday the team was around Luke's desk as he and Spencer told them how was their double date.
"Hold on.... Spence you know how to cook?" asked JJ shocked.
"Yes. I had to with my mother being schizophrenic. I once cooked a Spanish tortilla to Max. It was one of our first dates"
"I never thought you could. I mean you always eat at restaurants" commented JJ.
He laughed and they keep talking then Luke showed them their dishes and everyone was surprised by it.
"Wow now I need to try it" said Dave looking at Luke's phone.
"Totally, Spence and Luke... Next time we will need to organize something at your apartment to eat these" they all nod in agreement. Luke and Spencer laughed a little uncomfortable.
"Guys we have a case" said Ashley, their new Tech Analyst.
They all stood and they walked to the conference room. Ashley explained the case and after that they wheels up to the city.
Luke texted Penelope to take care of Roxie because they have a case. Penelope of course will do it, she loved his dog so much.
The case was hard but the team made it at the end. When they were returning home 3 days later, Ashley's face appears in the screen "guys.... An urgent case needs you" they all signed and she sent the information to their tablets while the plane turned.
An unsub is killing elderly couples in their houses so the team split up into teams to try to catch this man.
One of them was Like and Matt. They were in a little car with binoculars checking the houses.
"So you know Penelope is planning double dates for all the team, right?" The Asian man nodded "I asked her to let me pick the next one and I picked you and Kristy"
"Luke... You know I love Penelope and you are one of my closest friends but I can't cook or do crazy stuffs"
"That's why I asked to pick you dude" he said with a smile "we can pick whatever we want and they have to go with us" Matt smirked realizing what he meant.
"I like that... But I have to tell Kristy to find a babysitter for our five kids" he sighed.
"I still can't believe you have five kids man... I have Roxie and she is like a kid and sometimes I'm overwhelmed by all the things I have to do for her. I can't imagine five kids"
"It's hard. That's why Rossi and I are working on my first novel and he is sending to the editor my stories for kids" he smiled "that way I can keep my family happy and send them to the university"
"That's great bro" Luke smiled.
They continued to watch houses when Matt asked "how are you and Penelope doing? Because I always saw a flirting Penelope with everyone but you"
"She didn't want to admit she liked me so she was mean with me" he laughed "she still act mean but playing with me and that newbie nickname now is more sweet and adorable"
"Good because we all see your relationship as a love- hate one but I guess it was like the relationship a kid may have. They are mean to hide their feelings" Luke nodded "I was thinking... Maybe I know where we should go. It's a place I took Kristy when we really need to relax"
"Wow that sounds good after this week"
"You will love it. It's a..." They could not continue because a man ran down the street so they had to get out of the car to catch him.
After a long interrogation, the man said he was a simple thief. At the end they sent him to prison and they discovered the unsub was a woman who killed them, she was an angel of death. She was their nurse and she decided to kill them because they have diabetes or cancer.
They catched her and sent her to prison then finally they returned to Washington DC just in time for weekend.
Luke and Matt decided to see each at the place they were going and surprise their girls.
On Saturday Luke and Penelope spent it outside. Matt and him decided to see at night so they could do other things that day.
Luke did not say anything to her, she asked and looked anxious but he remained silent.
At night they were to the place the two men decided. When the couple arrived there were Kristy and Matt.
"Hey Matt and Kristy!" Said Penelope excited hugging them tightly "how is little Rose Mary?"
"She is perfect. She sleeps" Matt said laughing.
"Yeah and loves to hear Matt's stories. She looks at him in silence as he speaks, it's so adorable" Kristy got out her phone and showed a video to Penelope.
"AWWW! I'm dying of love" she squealed excited. Matt and Luke laughed "Ok Simmons and Alvez, what are we doing here?"
Matt decided to do the reveal it to them "ok Luke and I aren't good at that thing you planned for Reid and Max. So we thought about doing something fun to relax ourselves" the Asian man lead them to an arcade, Penelope's brow raised at it.
"Really?" They nodded and Luke got nervous because he may screwed up then Penelope smirked "I love this! I will beat you in mortal Kombat!" They laughed and walked in.
They brought two cards with a good credit and went to play. Penelope beat Luke as she promised, they laughed and got lot of tickets to buy an stuffed bear.
Then they brought ice cream and ate it talking some more. And after that they left to their houses.
"So did you have fun?" Asked Luke.
"Yes I did. It's been a while since I came here. Don't ever be afraid to take me to those places. I'm a nerd that loves video games and going to comic cons" she smiled.
"Awesome, I just always saw you into other things that I thought you could get upset"
"Oh sweet newbie. You need to know so much about me" she laughed.
"I can't wait to know more" he smirked at her.
"Good" she bit her lip as they arrived to her apartment "I missed you this week" she leaned in and kissed him softly.
"I missed you too, it was a hard week but now I got a nice Saturday with my nena"
She smirked at him "I'm here to help you relax chéri, I know your work is hard and I know you don't like to decorate your desk like I used too so I'm your relief for that horrible things you see" he laughed softly.
"Thank you Penelope, you are best"
"I know" she smirked and hugged him then she left the car after another kiss, this time a little longer and passionate.
Next double date will be her turn to pick couple and what they will do. He was nervous about what she will do.
OOooOOooOO
Hope you liked this! I was thinking about sending them to play miniature golf at first but them the arcade seems like a better option.
I haven't decided who will be the next couple. If you have a suggestion, write it. We still have: JJ/Will, Emily/Andrew, Rossi/Krystall, Tara/OC and Ashley/OC.

Talk to me - Matt Simmons x Reader
this has been requested by an Anon <3
Prompt: #14 - “Why the hell didn´t you tell me?”
Characters: Matt Simmons, Y/N Simmons (daughter!Reader), Kristy Simmons, David Simmons, Jake Simmons, Chloe Simmons, Lily Simmons, the BAU team, the school´s principal & secretary as well as some highschool teens
Warnings: mentions of bullying, harassment, mild violence, angst, hurt/comfort
A/N: guess who´s finally back on track! <3 it´s me & i hope you missed my writings as much as i did writing them :D this is my first story after a really long break so please be kind to me lol. feedback is still appreciated & i really need it so please leave something in my inbox <3 i also hope that my english is still good enough to write on here :D so enjoy!
„All I´m trying to say is that in my opinion, Y/N has changed a lot these past few weeks and I really want to know why. Don´t you?“, Matt tried to reason with his wife as they were currently sitting on the couch in their living room.
„Matt, she´s 16, okay? She´s a teenager in the middle of Highschool. Changes are normal. I don´t think that there´s a reason to panic just yet. Remember when we were in Highschool? We were the same.“, Kristy answered, trying to be as quiet as possible due to her younger kids already being asleep in their rooms upstairs.
„I know, Kristy. But haven´t you noticed those weird changes in her behaviour? Like she comes home and immediatley locks herself up in her room. She barely Eats or sleeps. She became quieter than she already has been.“
„Matt, maybe you shoud try to profile our kids less. See, Y/N is just fine. We taught her that she can come to us if there is something bothering her. She knows that. There is nothing more we can do. We have to trust her and her decisions, okay?“, the woman tried to finally end this conversation with her husband, who gave up and sighed.
„Fine..okay, but I will talk to her about it tomorrow. I need to.“, Matt said as he got up and held his hand out to his wife, „let´s head to bed, shall we?“
Kristy smirked and shook her head, but grabbed Matt´s hand anyway. She knew that Matt was quite overprotective of all their kids and she understood his reasoning. He saw the worst of people and what they were capable of everyday. But sometimes, she wished that he would just let things go. She sometimes missed those times earlier in their relationship when it was just them and Y/N, their eldest daughter, living in a small house. Matt had been a part of the Army and for sure had he been overprotective back than, but not that much. What Kristy also knew is that she wouldn´t get Matt to stop figuring this out. If he wanted to find something out, then he would do everything in his power to find it out.
Yes, Kristy noticed the changes as well. She noticed that her daughter isolated herself more, that she had become skinnier and paler, that she was quieter and not that happy girl she used to be. Maybe blaming everything on puberty and Highschool was her way of dealing with the fact that something worse was going on and she had failed as a mother, because she hadn´t noticed it earlier. But now, it was too late and she could only pray that it really only is the stress of being an American teenager in the middle of HighSchool. Otherwise she could never forgive herself.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The next morning, Kristy had to leave earlier than usual due to an appointment at work. That left Matt alone at home with his kids. While the younger kids were already dressed and ready for the day, Y/N was still up in her room. Just as he was about to set their bowls of cereals down in front of them, Chloe asked: „Dad, where is Y/N?“.
„I think she´s still up in her room, darling. She´ll be here in a minute.“, Matt explained to his daughter.
„Y/N is weird.“, Jake said while munching his Lucky Charms.
„How is Y/N weird? She´s your sister. Why would you say that?“, Matt asked.
„She doesn´t play with us anymore, she´s only in her room. One day, Lily went upstairs and knocked at Y/N´s door, only to ask if she wanted to share a pot of ice Cream with her and instead of appreciating the gesture, she screamed at Lily to go away and leave her alone, before she slammed the door in her face and locked the door.“, Jake told his father, who got more and more concerend. So he was right, something was going on. Y/N would never behave like this towards her Younger siblings. She loved them to death; she enjoyed spending every free minute with them. This behaviour was so not her.
„Yes, she was really mean to me. I miss the old Y/N. The Y/N who always played and laughed with us. I don´t like the crumpy Y/N, the mean one.“, Lily said, a sad expression lingering on her face.
„Dad, you´re FBI. Can´t you find out what´s going on with Y/N?“, David suggested as he drank his glass of water.
„I´m trying, David. I´m gonna try and talk to her today, okay? You don´t need to worry about this.“, Matt tried to reassure his kids while he checked the watch, „Okay, ladies and gentlemen, you have to leave right now if you want to catch the school bus which will be here in 5 minutes.“
Suddenly, everyone rushed to get their breakfast done. They put their bowls away and put on their school bags when Matt opened the door, already seeing the bus arriving.
„Okay, there comes the bus. I love you all. Have a great day at school! One last hug.“, Matt smiled as he opened his arms wide and hugged all of his four kids.
„Bye Dad, we love you!“, the kids said in unisono before they ran off and into the bus. Matt waved them goodbye and waited until the bus was around the corner before he went back inside and closed the door.
Returning to an empty kitchen, he again checked the clock and saw that Y/N´s bus arrives in 15 minutes and she still hasn´t been downstairs to have breakfast.
„Y/N?“, Matt screamed, „Y/N, are you up?“
He waited a little while for a reply, but never got one.
„Y/N? Are you up? You have to leave in 15.“, he said again, this time as he was about to climb up the stairs to his daughters room.
Matt knocked at the door: „Y/N..can I come in?“. It was then, that he heard noises behind the closed door. He was about to knock again, when the door flew open. In front of him stood a pale, tired Y/N, her hair made up in a messy bun. She was wearing a shirt which was way too big for her and a sport leggings, combined with her checkboard vans.
„Is everything okay?“, Matt asked Y/N as he checked her over.
„Yeah..why wouldn´t it be?“, Y/N answered annoyed. It was than that Matt noticed the dark circles underneath her eyes as well as the light purple bruises on her arms.
„You don´t look fine. Can you please finally talk to me?“
Y/N rolled her eyes and moved passed her father and down the stairs, where she made herself a coffee in her To-Go cup.
„Y/N…please. I´m worried. We all are. Your siblings even think that there is something going on with you. Please, you know you can talk about everything with us. We just want to help.“, Matt pleaded with his daughter.
„I don´t need your help, Dad. If there´s a problem, I can solve it alone. School is just pretty stressful at the moment with all the exams and quizzes, okay? Nothing more, nothing less.“, Y/N agrued as she grabbed her coffee and bag before heading towards the door.
„What about breakfast? Did you have a look at yourself in the mirror, Y/N? You´re getting skinnier eachday and what about those bruises on your arms? Is someone hurting you, princess? Please..“, Matt was about to say, but got interrupted by his daughter.
„For god´s sake, back off Dad. Everything is fine, I can solve my problems alone. I´m a big girl, okay.“, Y/N yelled as she opened the door, „I´m off to school. Love you!“, and with that, Y/N disappeared and left behind an even more concerened Matt.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
„And what did she say again when you confronted her?“, Luke wanted to know. After the incident with his oldest daughter, Matt had to go to work, thankfully it´s only been a paperwork day so far. Luke, Matts best friend and co-worker, sensed that something must be wrong with the father of 5 so he pressured him into talking to him about it. Soon, they were joined by the rest of the team.
„She said that basically everything´s fine and that school is stressful and all that normal stuff you would say.“, Matt sighed as he leaned back into his chair.
„But you don´t believe her, don´t you?“, Tara asked.
„No, I can´t believe this lie. Like does stress cause you purple bruises up your arm? I mean I get that if she´s stressed that she might loose weight or that she sleeps less, but those bruises were bad.“, Matt reasoned.
„Did you tell Kristy about it?“, Emily joined into the conversation.
„Yes, we talked yesterday about it and she thinks that it´s normal teenager behavior and that Y/N would come to us if she´s in trouble or else. She just thinks I´m reading too much into it and that I´m too overprotective. I mean I am, but my gut tells me that there is something going on which isn´t good at all. I just wish she would trust me enough to talk to me about it. I mean I only want to help her.“
„I don´t think it´s about trust.“, Rossi said, „I think she trusts you a lot which is why she doesn´t want to bother you with her problems. She knows that you have a lot to do and worry about for yourself so it´s normal that she doesn´t want to bother you with her problems which is absolutley wrong thinking.“
„But she´s not a bother to me and Y/N knows this. I rather prefer her talking about her problems with me and letting me help her solve them than having her to carry them all alone. What kind of a Dad am I if I can´t help my own child?“, Matt exclaimed and got up to get some air.
Luke was about to get up and follow his friend when Rossi held him back.
„Let him go. Give him some time, he needs it.“
„And he needs a friend.“, Luke argued.
„Yes, he does. When he comes back. Not right now, right now, he needs to be alone and sort his thoughts out. We should give him some time and get back to work.“, Emily said and with that, everyone returned to their desks.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Around 15 minutes later, Matt returned to his desk as well to get some work done when his cell phone started to ring. He check the caller ID and with a frown, he picked up the phone.
„Simmons?…Yes, it´s him…..What?…Where?..How could this happen?….Okay, I´m on my way right now….No, I´m gonna call my wife myself, thank you.“, and with that, Matt hang up und got up to go to Emily´s office, where he knocked at the door.
„Come in.“, the voice from inside said, „Matt, hey. Are you alright?“
„Ahm, yeah about that. I need to head over to Y/N`s school.“, the agent muttered.
„Sure, everything okay?“, the unit chief asked concerned.
„I don´t know yet. The principal just called me and said that Y/N has been hurt and that we should come pick her up as soon as possible. I don´t know exactly what happened yet, but I need to go over there soon.“
„Of course, go. Shall someone of us come with you? Do you need anything?“
„No, I´m good. I´m gonna call Kristy from the car and inform her. Is it okay if I take this day off?“
„No worries, we´ve got you covered. Take as much time as you need.“, Emily said and gave the worried man a smile which he returned.
„Thank you, Em. I´ll let you know when I know what´s up.“, and with that, Matt rushed out of the building to his car.
 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
„Hi, I´m Matt Simmons. I got a call from Principal Richards a few minutes ago about my daughter, Y/N Simmons. She got hurt and I was supposed to come pick her up as soon as possible.“, Matt explained as he finally arrived at the secretary´s office. While waiting for a reply, he kept looking around, in search for his daughter.
„Let me check in with the principal.“, the secretary said as she got up and into the principals office, which she exited again a few minutes later.
„Principal Richards wants to see you before you can go to pick up your daughter.“, the secretary said and led Matt towards the office where Principal Richards was already waiting for the father.
„Agent Simmons, please take a seat.“, the man greeted Matt and showed him where to sit.
„What happened with my daughter? Is she okay?“, Matt wanted to know.
„Y/N is fine or as fine as one can be after she´s been beaten up by a few of her fellow students.“
„I´m sorry, what?“
„Ms. Laney, Y/N´s French teacher was walking out of her classroom when she saw a group of students kicking another student who was laying helplessly on the ground. She immediatley seperated the group and called other teachers for help. We don´t know what got into the teenagers but we believe that this is going on for a long time.“
„How could this happen? Why didn´t you do something against this earlier?“, the agent said, frustrated and still concerned about his daughters wellbeing.
„Agent Simmons, we´re very sorry that we didn´t take notice of those students behaviors before, but we´re a rather big Highschool, you can´t notice everything that is going on here. Ms. Laney tried to talk to Y/N, but she didn´t tell her a thing. We hope that you or your wife might get through to her, so we can give those students the punishments they deserve because we don´t want bullies at our school. I already suspended them from school for the next three weeks.“
„I´m gonna go and try my best with Y/N but I can´t promise you anything. I tried to talk to her about this before, because I noticed that something was wrong with her, but she keeps quiet about it.“, Matt answered and sighed as he got up, „Thanks for informing me, Principal Richards. I´ll let you know what she said as soon as I talked to her.“
„No worries, Agent Simmons. Take your time talking to her. We really hope she´ll get better soon. We´re here to help, if you need anything.“, Principal Richards said as he took Matt´s hand and shook it, „Ms. Mable will bring you to your daughter now.“
With one last nod, Matt said goodbye to the principal and left his office, determined to finally find out what has been going on with his daughter.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The car ride home went awefully quiet. Neither Y/N nor Matt dared to say a word. Y/N was busy looking outside the window. She knew that as soon they would be home, her parents would want to talk to her about everything. She really didn´t want to talk about it, but then again, she needed to and she was sick of bottling everything up inside her. Y/N just wanted this nightmare to be over. She really thought that she could solve those problems on her own, but she couldn´t and she had to admit that she has been wrong.
After what felt like an eternity, Matt and Y/N finally arrived home. Matt exited the car first and opened the door for his daughter, who thanked him with a nod. As they entered the house, Y/N noticed how quiet it was and she knew what that meant: her mom and her siblings were out of the house so her father could have THE talk with her. Guess there was now no way around it this time.
„Are you hungry?“, Matt asked his daughter as he made his way towards the kitchen.
„No, not really. Thanks though.“, Y/N replied as she let herself fall into the couch, cuddling a pillow close to her chest.
Matt sighed. He really did not know how to get through to her.
„You were right, you know.“, Y/N suddenly interrupted his thoughts.
„Sorry?“, he asked as he walked towards where his daughter was sitting.
„You were right, all the time. You and Mom, Jake, David, Lily, Chloe…everyone was right the whole time, I-I just…I-I couldn´t talk about it.“, Y/N stuttered as she turned herself towards her father who sat next to her on the couch.
„You know you can tell me anything, princess.“, Matt tried to reassure his daughter.
„I know, Dad. I know that, but what I don´t know is why I didn´t come to you in first place.“
„Tell me what´s going on. Please, I just wanna help.“
Y/N took a deep breath before she started to explain.
„I guess it all started in Sophomore Year. Like I don´t actually know what led it on, really. But anyway, there is this group of teenagers, Seniors actually. They always would find something to annoy me with. At first, they would make rude comments in the hallway. Then it turned into harassing outside of school and during breaks where they pushed me against walls and stuff. They were always so rude and mean a-and I just felt so helpless.“, Y/N said as she choked back a sob.
„Honey..“, Matt tried but got interrupted by his daughter.
„No, Dad. Let me finish first..please.“, Y/N mumbled, gathering all her courage to continue explaining, „they posted fake news about me on the internet which made my friends turn away from me and the whole school was talking about me. They forced me to do things with them, criminal things sometimes. They forced me to steal tests which they were supposed to take the other day. Today…it hasn´t been the first time they hit and kicked me. It happened multiple times. The only difference to today was that I had enough this morning and confronted them. I wanted them to tell me why the hell they chose me as their victim. I-I didn´t do anything wrong. I don´t bother anyone and I-I leave everyone alone. I just don´t get why people can be so mean to eachother without knowing eachother really well..Well, at first they laughed at me, spat on me. They pushed me around like I´m their toy or whatever. And when I started to defend myself, they began to Hit and kick me and the rest you know.“
Matt was quiet. He never would have thought that this would be the reason for Y/N´s changes. He was in shock.
Carefully, he took Y/N´s hand in his before he gathered himself.
„Why the hell didn´t you tell me?“, he wanted to know. He was so confused. His little girl shouldn´t have to go through all this alone. He was mad, not at Y/N. At himself and those bullies who made the life of his daughter so much worse.
„I-I don´t know Dad. I-I guess I was just so scared. Like what would have happened if they would have found out that I told you? They wouldn´t have stopped, it only would have gotten worse. Also I didn´t really want to bother Mom and you with my bullshit. You have enough to do with the twins and work and..“
„But you matter too. Your life matters to me, to us. This is not okay and I want them to pay for what they did to you. Principal Richards already suspended them, but to me, that´s not enough.“
„Dad..“
„No, listen to me. They need to pay for what they did. They need to learn to be responsible for the actions they take. It´s not okay to bully someone, to harass, kick or hit someone. Reason or not, it´s not acceptable and they need to learn this lesson the painful way. I´m just sorry you had to go through all this alone. I really need you to Understand that no matter what you can always talk to Mom and me, okay? We were so worried about you.“
„But I-I needed to protect you.“, Y/N sobbed.
„Oh Princess.“, Matt sighed as he hugged his daughter very close, „I´m proud of the fact that you did all this to protect us. But nevertheless, you matter to okay? Don´t you forget about this!“
Y/N nodded as she finally let all her emotions out and felt safe enough to let the tears spill over. All the past few days, days full of pain, fear, but also anger, were catching up on her and now she finally felt safe enough to show her weaker side. The one, she always tried to hide from her family.
Matt tried everything to soothe his daughter, to take her pain away. He knew that it would be a long road ahead of them, but he was ready and willing to go it with her. No matter what.

Criminal Minds: Because of You / Prompt / JJ, Spencer, and Averey

Standing side by side, JJ and Averey took in the sight of Spencer Reid. He was tall and gangly as he always was. But, he was in a sweatshirt. A sweatshirt. Ever since she had met him, she hadn’t ever seen Spencer in anything casual. Not even jeans. Except one rare occasion they tried hard not to bring up. Not even a t-shirt. Never without multiple layers. He was the physical embodiment of “dress to impress,” if his big brain wasn’t already doing so.
“Whoever this conversation was with,” JJ said with a knowing smile, “she’s put a smile on your face I haven’t seen in a long time.”
Spencer pressed his lips together, pursed them, opened his mouth to speak, and then closed it. He bowed his head. Then, his eyebrows furrowed together, and he looked JJ in the eye. “Wait, ‘she’?” he said. “I’m sorry, I didn’t say who I had this conversation with.”
Averey rest her arm on JJ’s shoulder, using her hand to cover her smile, scratching around her mouth. “It was definitely a girl, mate,” she said, her nose wrinkling as she smiled. “Clearly. JJ’s right, the only other time I’ve seen you smile like that is Halloween.”
“Because it’s the greatest holiday of the year,” Spencer said, lighting up. “It’s the strangest, most mystical day of the year. You get to dress up as whoever you want, watch scary movies, go door to door to get candy, carve pumpkins – you can take the time to remember those who’ve passed. I mean, it’s great. And…” He cleared his throat, his smile shifting to one side of his mouth, “and for one day, I wasn’t the weird kid.” His smile returned, and he shrugged. It was gone a moment later, a troubled expression suddenly appearing on his face. “Hey, so let’s go see the new baby.”
“Not so fast.” Averey stuck out her hand as Spencer moved to pass them. JJ followed her lead and the two of them pushed him back. She squinted, scrutinizing him. “What’s that look in your eyes?”
“What look?” Spencer asked.
“Spence.” JJ’s eyebrows shot upwards. She crossed her arms over her chest. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” Spencer replied. “Just, uh, anxious to go see Simmons’s new baby.”
JJ and Averey exchanged glances. “Well, you know there’s only a certain amount of people they can have in the room at one time, it’s probably already too crowded,” JJ said. Averey nodded emphatically. “In fact, I remember when I just gave birth to Henry – phew – it just about wore me out.”
Averey waved her hand in the air. “Yeah, and, really how big is a baby going to grow in a few minutes, or hours, or days?” Averey asked. “They all look like potatoes, anyway.”
“Well, with women only being dilated ten centimeters, it’s not uncommon for people to think newborns are ugly,” Spencer quickly explained. “In fact, most newborns have a point to their heads because of all the pressure and the muscles forcing it out of the birth canal for hours.” He started nodding his head, slowly stepping around them. He started walking backwards, nearing the Simmons family’s hospital room. “It would even be more defined if the baby needs to be taken out by suction because the fontanelle hasn’t all fused together yet because baby’s bones are softer, to allow for more flexibility in the birth canal. It could take as long as four months or so before the baby’s skull is fully formed.”
“JJ,” Averey said, You mind if I talk to Spencer alone for a few minutes?” She turned towards JJ, pulling her mouth to one side. She tapped her bottom lip with her index finger before she pointed at Spencer. “I think I know what’s up.”
“Sure, of course,” JJ said with a nod. “I’ll just be at the vending machines. I practically had Will buy out all of the Hot Cheetos in the hospital after both my pregnancies.”
“Ooh, if they have any Cheese Curls, get some for me, please?” Averey asked, giving JJ a toothy, pleading smile, clasping her hands together.
“You’ve got it.”
“You know, it’s been found that the chemicals that make the spicy powder on Flaming Hot Cheetos has been linked to many hospital visits,” Spencer said. JJ lifted her eyebrows, giving him a close-lipped smile as she turned away from him, clicking her tongue as she did so. “It can lead to ulcers, intestinal erosion, and gastritis.”
“Spencer, sit down,” Averey said, putting a hand to her forehead. “I know what you’re doing.”
“Hmm?” A confused look crossed Spencer’s face. “What?” He used his thumb to point over his shoulder. He pulled is lips downwards in the corners. Widened his eyes in innocence. “I’m just going to see the baby. And saving JJ from severe abdominal pain.”
“Right. Fair go, Spencer, but you’ll have plenty of time for Matt and Kristy to pawn the baby off on you,” Averey said, swinging her arm in a circle, pointing towards the empty seats in the waiting room. “You can help accelerate her reading level, teach her the wonders of the world, and all of that. She’ll be graduating secondary in no time. And if a little pain is a result of those Hot Cheetos, I’m sure JJ will enjoy herself in the meantime.” She pointed to an empty chair. “Sit.”
Spencer darted his eyes back and forth before doing as he was told. Lowering himself into a hard, plastic seat, he placed his hands on his knees, drumming his fingertips on his kneecaps.
“Spencer, you don’t have to beat yourself up for enjoying a conversation with a woman,” Averey said.
“I-I’m not,” Spencer said. He stopped tapping and rubbed his hands on his thighs before clasping his hands together.
“Ok.” Averey let out a soft sigh before leaning forward in her seat. “Maeve wouldn’t want you to hold yourself back from being happy.”
“I’m not doing that, either.”
“Then why are you still here?” Averey asked. Spencer looked startled, his face scrunching into a look of confusion. She tilted her head to the side, holding it up with her index finger, elbow resting on the arm rest of her chair. “Mate, your face was lit up like a Jack O’Latern when you walked in here. Just because you spent the afternoon talking to someone you just met. Why aren’t you still talking with her?” She didn’t give him a chance to answer. “It wasn’t easy for me to feel like I was ready to start dating after Noel died. I felt like I was cheating on him in a way.”
Spencer blinked. He swallowed. Sat up straight in his seat. “You did?” he asked quietly.
“Yeah. It sucked,” Averey said bluntly. “How do you not feel like you’re doing something wrong? I thought Noel would be the only bloke I’d ever spend the rest of my life with. It felt weird to find out I could have the same strong feelings for someone else. Anyone else.”
Spencer bowed his head for a moment, before looking back up at Averey. “Maeve made me feel like I was normal,” Spencer replied. “Even when I worried I was having a psychotic break. She made me feel like I wasn’t weird for knowing so much, because she was intelligent, too.”
“Being an intellectual isn’t weird, Spencer,” Averey reminded him, “it’s who you are.”
“That’s what I mean,” Spencer said, his voice cracking slightly, “Maeve made me feel…like me.”
“Believe me,” Averey said, slowly blinking, “I know the feeling.” She watched as Spencer’s eyebrows pulled towards each other in the cute confused face he always made. She cleared her throat, leaning forward in her seat to rest her forearms on her knees. “Does this other girl give you that same feeling?”
“Well,” a thoughtful look came across Spencer’s face, “my therapist asked me to have a normal conversation with someone today. And we did. We—we had a nice conversation. Not about work.” Averey lifted an eyebrow. “Well, maybe a little bit. But we also talked about everything else.” He blinked. “And then she pushed me into the sprinklers.”
Averey snapped her fingers. “That explains the civvies,” she said with a smile.
“Yeah, and then I carried her through the sprinklers in retaliation,” Spencer said with a nod. A sly smile slowly spread across Averey’s face. “She was talking about decency and then turned right around and did something not decent.”
“So, you were flirting?”
“What? No, I was…”
“Flirting.” Slack jawed, Spencer’s gaze darted around the room from object to object. Averey hid her smile, and a small laugh, behind her hand as she watched him. “You know all Maeve wanted was for you to be happy,” she said as soon as she managed to get control over her laughter.
“I was happy with her,” Spencer replied.
“True,” Averey agreed. “But who said you could only have one thing, or in this case, one person in your life to make you happy?” She leaned forward and gently hit Spencer’s knee with her hand. “I know you still love her but take it from someone who’s done this; don’t ever let your happiness be determined by one person. No one’s asking you to forget Maeve. And knowing that you have an eidetic memory, I reckon you never could, anyway.”
“Thomas Merton,” Spencer whispered with a smile.
Averey’s nose wrinkled as she did a double take. “Who?”
“Maeve knows,” Spencer replied. His smile widened.
JJ slowed her footsteps as she neared them, arms filled with bags of snack foods. “Is it ok for me to come back?” she asked, making a show of extending her footsteps. “Everything ok over here?”
“I don’t know,” Averey said, slouching in her chair, albeit with a grin, “with a big brain like that, it’s hard to know if it’ll understand such simple topics.”
“We’re ok,” Spencer said to JJ.
“Good,” JJ replied. “So now you can get out of here.”
“But…” Spencer grabbed the arm rests of his chair and lifted himself to his feet. “I still haven’t seen the baby.”
“She’ll still be a baby whenever you see her,” JJ replied, handing Averey a bag of Cheese Curls (“Yay!” Averey cheered, grabbing the pack and hugging it to her chest). “Matt will understand.” She fixed Spencer with a hard stare. “Go, Spencer.”
“Run if you have to,” Averey added.
Spencer lifted himself up and stopped part way between standing and sitting; an odd squat. “But, maybe I should—”
“Go,” both girls said in unison.
With that, Spencer jumped to his feet and ran out of the hospital wing. “Oh my gosh,” JJ whispered, sitting down next to Averey. She set the bags of snack foods down into the chair next to her before pulling open a bag of Hot Cheetos.
“Jayje.”
“Hmm?”
Averey used her hands to indicate between herself and JJ. “We both know that Spencer was able to skive the physical tests at the Academy,” she said. JJ nodded, popping a Cheeto into her mouth before licking the powder off her fingers. “But that,” she pointed to the spot Spencer was just standing, “was the worst running form I’ve seen in my life.”
“Yeah, uh,” settling the bag in her lap, JJ used her free hand to push her fingers into her hair, scratching at the back of her head, pulling her hair to one side of her neck. “I can’t explain that. Stick a gun in his hand, and he follows through with the correct form; finger off trigger, down at his side.” She lifted her hands and shrugged. “I don’t know.”
“I don’t think anyone can explain that,” Averey said, settling back in her seat, laughing quietly. She was silent for a moment before saying, “Hank Spencer Morgan for Spencer, Rose Mary Simmons because ‘it’s close to Rossi’, what do you reckon I have to do around here to have a bloody baby named after me?”
