Still not letting myself watch Spider-Man (2002) again bc I don’t wanna lose my marbles over it again butttt

That last post reminded me how differently characters are handled in ~20 years with No Way Home (2021)….namely my normie gobby babygirl 🥰🫶💚✨

NWH kinda has that flavor of the ‘you fell for the characters charade which you are meant to dismantle!! 😂’ post. Like awwww don’t you feel bad for him, audience? He killed someone but he didn’t knowwww 🥺 he just needs help and he’s soooo sorry 🥺 he’ll be better now for sure…

Which is funny because he tries that appeal to forgiveness in the first movie…as a trick to do more harm! And that thirst for revenge (for damage to his fragile ego) is what kills him. He decides to indulge in his worst impulses and suffers the consequences for it. Killed with his own weapons he developed for the US military to kill other people with. Love that for him 💚

I’m not the type to be like ‘clearly The Studio does not understand the character as good as Me’ because there’s a lot at play between the two movies. There are differences because of studios, writers, directors, audience expectations (especially for superhero movies), etc etc etc. But I do find it funny that jumping ahead 20 years they want me to pity the big corporate weapons guy and root for him to get a second chance (arguably his third) because suddenly it’s not his choice and thus not his fault (?) anymore. I love him sooooooo so much but I would prefer he be killed again actually 💚
