Is there a music analysis of Wreck-It Ralph anywhere? (I'm sure there is) Cuz I've been listening to the soundtrack and ... EHEHHEHEH.. I love musical character motifs
I made a short video on an example I especially liked between Vanellope and King Candy :)
Basically he STOLE her leitmotif, like he stole everything else of hers

Ni-Ti loop curse - Ugetsu’s arc and predictions
I noticed that most of fandom thinks that after chapters 27-28 Ugetsu’s story is finished. It surprised me a little since I have different opinion that in fact he will definitely play role in upcoming final arc and that him getting happy ending is still possible.
Whole Given basically
Spoilers for manga below.
1. Ugetsu compared to rest of characters
Since Ugetsu was introduced I was clearly intrigued by him, but no means I expected him grow to be my favorite character. I was rather surprised that instead of presenting him in a bad-ex trope way he got full-fleshed and nuanced. I like how he is one of mysteries of the story – at first we know that he is responsible for Akihiko views of love as painful thing and we got tidbits of theirs domestic life where they seems to be intimate but we get vibe that there is something wrong. Then we got chapter 17 and we know what went wrong and it is heartbreaking. I think it interesting choice that we simultaneously got both Akihiko and Ugetsu perspective on it and we get why it went that way. Natsuki-sensei not only spent lot of time fleshing out story from his perspective to sympathize with him and clearly puts a lot of effort in showing all emotions on his face. Compared to other supporting characters he got the most of time in manga and we get him to know relatively very well – from little information about childhood, his motivation and so on. Besides, what also distinguish him from them the most is the way he impact main storyline – he is important both to Akihiko’s as well as Mafuyu’s story, while rest orbits primarily around one character.
But what I found truly fascinating is how he is foil and contrast with rest of characters, because he is such extremum when it comes to music and relationships.
Uenoyama – he is called prodigy too; before meeting Mafuyu his life was centered only on music but it didn’t go well for him
Haruki - totally opposite in almost everything from acting towards others, living space, views on music to relationship with Akihiko
Mafuyu – another prodigy who express feelings via music, but who wants to cultivate bonds with others
Yuki – both are dedicated to music at cost of their wellbeing and relationship
Akihiko – since he and Ugetsu are paralleled a lot with Yuuki-Mafuyu I will use Hiiragi’s quote “together, they filled in each other’s missing pieces” – in terms of character qualities and simple things as providing home and support, whose they respectively needed.
By all this I wanted to show you how his story entwines with rest of characters, so cutting him from main plot would be for me at least weird.
2. Ni-Ti loop and CAC song
To be honest I was worried that we may get negative character arc to contrast him with Mafuyu. But after rereading whole story I have more hope about this. So let’s start what is core of positive/negative character arc
“The Central Problem: This is the damaging belief your character must face to complete their arc. They may believe they’re weak or inferior to others, or they may refuse to trust anyone but themselves. This inner struggle will be confronted at the Climax and their ability to overcome it will determine if they succeed or fail in the conflict of your story.”
https://thenovelsmithy.com/positive-negative-character-arcs/
Applying it to Ugetsu he believes that being isolated from others is only way to be dedicated to music, thus pushing away others and acting inconsiderate to them.
It reminds me also of Ni-Ti loop:
“Instead of a healthy balance of introverted and extroverted functions, the INFJ becomes stuck in their introverted processes, keeping them trapped within their own mind in a seemingly endless loop of thought.
As our introverted iNtuition (Ni) ponders theories, concepts and possibilities, it feeds these ideas to our Ti which seeks facts and logic to back up and solidify these thoughts. As it obtains this information, it feeds it back to our Ni which creates even more theories and concepts.
Each time this loop goes full circle, the thoughts become more and more radical and outlandish, pushing us further from reality and deeper into our minds.”
http://www.jennifersoldner.com/2016/02/ni-ti-loop.html
So we get Ugetsu thinking about how they chasing each other and neglecting music, then instead of talking to Akihiko about his insecurities he decided to push him away since prior to their meeting he was alone and fine this way. When declaring breakup didn’t work, he fallen further in this way of thinking and tried to discourage Akihiko by sleeping with other men. However, logic doesn’t apply well to love, so he is conflicted about his feelings constantly. So there is cycle in their relationship of pulling and pushing away resulting only in more pain and violence.
But even after Akihiko leaves him after their argument, it got even worse – he got more isolated from rest of world and depressed. His solution didn’t work at all.
During CAC we can observe that he starts to understand this. He seems to be stunned that not only Mafuyu can perform music on his level and be connected to others and Akihiko’s skill in drums got so much better thanks to Haruki’s influence.
Theoretically this could be end with him failing to change but…
CAC song is about ending and begging. It conveys that positive change is possible. I like how Mafuyu is not only referencing his experience about trauma and healing, but want to help others persons in his life and reassure them that everything will be alright. And there is this frame:
Of course it has double meaning – Mafuyu want to resonate feelings via music like Ugetsu as well as to resonate meaning of song to him.
So concluding – with the both facts that Ugetsu does no longer believe in his previous standpoint and we have positive message of the song, we can discard option that his story ends here. But what comes next?
3. 3-act structure and what it means for the story
Quoting Wikipedia:
“The three-act structure is a model used in narrative fiction that divides a story into three parts, often called the Setup, the Confrontation and the Resolution.”
For Given as whole it would look like that (image from wikipedia, little changed by me):
3-act structure is one of most common used in stories. I think it can be applied to Given too, because of the way stakes are gradually rising and evolution of Mafuyu’s songs (first one about his trauma and past love, second about positive change and final will be most likely about his feelings for Uenoyama – well technically second one mentions it too, but I think it will be explored more). For now I rather want to use that structure as tool to predict what can happen. Let’s look again at what Wikipedia says about final act:
“The third act features the resolution of the story and its subplots. The climax is the scene or sequence in which the main tensions of the story are brought to their most intense point and the dramatic question answered, leaving the protagonist and other characters with a new sense of who they really are.”
How to grow more tension?
For me the most interesting it would be instead of *insert some cliché drama* getting all main four character confronted with someone who foils all of them on both music and personal level. It would cause to challenge their perspectives, disrupt the routine and reevaluate their standpoints. In the end it would be resulting in character grow for all of them.
In less vague terms my theory is that Ugetsu will perform together with Given on debut in festival. To break Ni-Ti loop the best is interacting with people and outside world. To step out of comfort zone and leave basement.
I envision this scenario roughly like that:
Since it is very likely that Mafuyu will write new song (probably together with Uenoyama)
Then he would consult it with Ugetsu
Mafuyu would be concerned about the other wellbeing hence trying to help him the same way it worked for him in begging of the story
Tensions during rehearsals – mainly due to Ugetsu being critical of their skills at music
After some time Ugetsu will start open towards rest of group and genuine wanting to help them performing at their the best – even if it would took some sacrifice from him (like resignation from violin competition or concert)
Thus resulting in final reconciliation with Akihiko (not necessary in romantic sense, more like healing each other wounds they caused before)
Climax at debut
Of course, maybe I went too far with this theory, but it would wrap up things nicely in my opinion. This was written emphasizing Ugetsu’s story, maybe I will expand it in relation to rest characters another time.
Finally I want to point out certain issues that would tie into this from recent chapter:
1. Mafuyu’s hesitation about debut - his fear of taking music seriously is rooted in Yuuki’s death and Ugetsu’s story as well. As chapter 18 showed he want to learn from their mistakes and I think he is afraid of losing himself too much in music and breaking up with Uenoyama in result. In order to move forward he has to make peace with music in some sense like discussing his insecurities with certain some who embodies music basically XD
2. Akihiko pursuing both violin and drums – these two instruments are so loaded with double meaning (drums – fun, escaping pain and violin – passion and lost dreams). But regardless if Akihiko has to choose one of them or not – pursing violin corresponds to confronting why he given up on violinist career earlier and by this confronting Ugetsu
Bonus:
Doesn’t sound it like foreshadowing?
So this is all for today. I don’t remember writing this much since my thesis – I hope it is coherent and that there is not that many errors XD If there is something unclear – feel free to ask.

Oof, four days and 2700 words later, I’ve finally finished writing this fic based off of @randomslasher‘s post here. Enjoy!
Title: Birthdays Word Count: 2734 Content Warnings: Um, slight angst? Mostly hurt/comfort.
Tagslist: @moose-squirrel05, @didsomeonesayprince, @readeatfightlove13, @anxious-vigil, @theamberrose97, @terminally-anxious
Virgil was pleasantly surprised to wake with the rare sensation of peace and contentment slowing the beat of his heart and keeping his breathing relaxed and even. His eyes strayed to the calendar pinned above his desk and a small smile graced his lips. It was his birthday. While all the sides were physiologically 29 just like Thomas, Virgil had officially formed on this day when Thomas was 8 years old. Were he a real person, Virgil would be 21 and now legally allowed to get drunk. He briefly considered the sensation of drunkenness and decided he didn’t care for it. Alcohol made you do stupid things and say stupid things and sometimes it made you overly emotional and just, no thanks. Virgil will stick to grape Gatorade in a wine glass while sitting fully clothed in a bubble bath. He’d probably be doing that tonight, after movie night of course. It was his own little birthday treat to himself.
Virgil mused over birthdays passed. He never really did much. The lights had barely tolerated him until recently, so it was no surprise they didn’t celebrate with him. And the darks… They weren’t necessarily horrible people. None of them were just inherently evil. But they did tend to live in moral shades of grey, often straying more towards the darker end of the spectrum than the light. More often than not, they caused more trouble than they did good and frequently made Virgil’s job harder. Especially the walking cactus. Ok, he wasn’t really a cactus. But the living embodiment of Thomas’s obsessiveness liked to wear bright green and gel his hair to sharp points in a dozen different directions. He was trying to look like an anime character. Virgil thought he looked like a cactus. When he kicked in, it was hard to get Thomas to get any work done, no matter how much anxiety he funneled into the man. It usually just ended up paralyzing Thomas with worries and that only drove him to sink further into mythical worlds in a vain effort to avoid his responsibilities. Inevitably, Virgil would have to go confront him. Confrontations with the darks usually ended in blood. Again, moral shades of grey. Not evil, but not really good either.
But despite their moral ambiguity, all of them agreed to give Virgil one present for his birthday. For one day a year, Virgil could live with the peace of mind that none of the darks would go around stirring trouble. There would be no confrontations, no blood and bruises, no need to protect Thomas from them. It wasn’t much, but Virgil didn’t mind. In fact, as far as Virgil knew, that was a normal birthday. It’s not like he had a frame of reference to say any different. Of course, Virgil knew when Patton, Roman, and Logan’s birthdays were. He had been informed in no uncertain terms to cause no trouble on those days, to which he happily complied. Even on Thomas’s birthday in years past, he spent those days holed up in his room, making himself as invisible as possible. And none of them had had a birthday since Virgil had been accepted, so he didn’t really know what was normal. He did kind of figure there would be something, since causing no trouble was just normal life for the lights. Still, going down that morning, Virgil didn’t have high expectations.
“Good morning, Virgil!” Patton greeted cheerily as his dark strange son appeared in the kitchen. Patton was pleased to see a calm smile grace his son’s face.
“Morning, Dad,” Virgil responded with almost equal cheer, albeit in a much softer tone. Patton noticed how calm and happy Virgil seemed to be. It was a rare, but immensely joyous occasion. Patton wasn’t sure what could be causing the uplifted mood, but he wasn’t complaining. If there was one thing they had all learned about Virgil by now, pointing out changes in behavior was probably the quickest way to stop those changes. So, Patton kept his mouth closed. Logan and Roman must have both caught on as well.
“And how are you on this fine day, Green Gay?” Virgil snorted at the nickname.
“Pretty sure I’m purple. If you’re looking for green, talk to Obsession. But, I’m pretty good. How about you?”
“Glittery as ever.” Logan sighed.
“Roman, glittery is not an adjective to describe emotion.”
“It is if that’s how I feel.”
“You can’t feel glittery. It is like saying you feel shiny.”
Yep, that’s how I feel. Shiny and sparkly and glittery.” Virgil wasn’t bothering to hide his snickers at the light-hearted debate.
“Argue semantics later you two. Breakfast time!” Patton walked over with two plates, setting one in front of Logan and the other in front of Roman. Logan reached for the jar of Crofters but Roman flashed his hand forward and grabbed it first.
“Nu-uh. If I let you at it first, there won’t be any left for the rest of us.” Logan looked down, flushing slightly pink.
“That’s… fair.” Roman laughed, Patton and, surprising all of them, Virgil joined in. After a beat, Logan laughed as well. Patton went back to the stove to grab the other two plates as Virgil sat down.
“You go the extra strip of bacon today, Kiddo.” Patton set the happy pancake man in front of Virgil, whose grin seemed to stretch a bit wider.
“I love it. Thanks Pat.” Patton’s confusion was mounting, but he filed it away to think about later.
“My pleasure. Everyone dig in.” The sound of eating filled the kitchen.
Logan had noticed Virgil’s odd behavior today and while it perplexed him, Logan didn’t want to risk making Virgil uncomfortable by pointing it out. But he did want to keep an eye on him, maybe decipher the cause without alerting Virgil. So, he grabbed a couple books from his shelf, one he had read before and one he had been meaning to loan Virgil anyway as he thought the anxious side would enjoy it. Then Logan went off in search of his fellow left brain.
Logan found Virgil in the recliner in the commons, listening to music with his eyes closed and looking so content, Logan almost didn’t want to disturb him. But it was made moot point anyway when Virgil opened one of his eyes to give Logan a quizzical look. Logan extended the hand holding the book for Virgil. Virgil removed his head phones and Logan took the opportunity to offer an explanation. “I wanted to loan this to you. It is a fascinating book I think you may thoroughly enjoy.” Virgil took the book gingerly, looking between it and Logan for a moment. Then a smile split his features.
“Thank you, Logan. I promise to take good very care of it. Thank you so much.” Logan nodded, not for a second doubting Virgil’s promise. He noted the similarities between Virgil’s behavior at this moment and his behavior at breakfast while Virgil put his head phones back on and leafed through the pages, that same smile sitting on his lips as if it were a permanent fixture now. Logan walked over to the sofa and sat down, opening his own book and beginning to read. Virgil began reading as well and they spent the afternoon like that, silently reading in each other’s company. Every now and then, Logan stole a glance at Virgil, trying to be as inconspicuous as possible. While Logan couldn’t seem to discern the cause of Virgil’s elevated mood, he could at least deduce that it was genuine and was able to mentally cross off the less than pleasant theories he had developed.
Roman was gleeful and excited. He and Thomas had had a most productive day together. Thomas was incredibly relaxed, which he confused the man until Roman recounted how calm and happy Virgil had been that morning. Thomas had asked why and, though Roman too wished to know and perhaps be able to replicate the event in the future, he did not have an answer, and so kept Thomas’s focus on the next Sanders Sides script. After the heavy weight of the last few videos, Roman was definitely feeling something lighter and happier. Maybe Christmas Caroling? The holiday was fast approaching. Yes, Roman liked that one. Of course, that wasn’t the only idea they had saved. Roman and Thomas made sure they had a sizable list that Thomas could run by Joan. But Roman really liked the idea of Sanders Sides Christmas Caroling video. He really hoped that would be the one Thomas and Joan settled on. Already, he was nearly bursting with ideas for it. Of course, they could wait. It was dinner, then movie time. And Roman knew exactly who should get to pick the film tonight.
“Virgil, why don’t you pick the movie?” The addressed side looked up from watching Patton make popcorn and gather drinks. Roman’s heart stuttered with the way Virgil’s whole face lit up with a smile. Roman could swear he looked like a kid on Christmas morning who just unwrapped their first present and found out it was exactly what he wanted.
“Hm… how about Lilo and Stitch?”
“A capital choice!” Roman boasted.
“Satisfactory.” Logan commented.
“Great choice, Kiddo!” Cheered Patton as he came in carrying a tray of snacks. Virgil’s smile grew. The movie passed mostly as per usual, Patton getting emotional, Logan mummering about scientific inaccuracies, Roman singing any time there was music (even if he was just singing the instrumental) and Virgil watching quietly enraptured, sometimes stealing glances at the other sides on the couch with that smile making his whole face look young and soft and innocent. When the movie ended, Roman was about to suggest another when Virgil stood and stretched.
“I’m turning in for the night guys. It was… it was a good day. Thanks. Try not to stay up all night. You know it keeps Thomas up. Good night.” Virgil was up the stairs before anyone could form a response. Roman was the first to speak.
“Does anyone have any idea what was up with Virgil today?” Patton shook his head and Logan opened his mouth to respond.
“Based on my observations, it seems Virgil was experiencing decreased levels of anxiety and increased levels of happiness. I have eliminated the possibilities that he is faking it or somehow intoxicated. I also doubt that this is the quote unquote ‘calm before the storm’ during a depressive episode as previous experience with Virgil in depressive episodes indicates he is usually less expressive and more reserved. I have considered the possibilities that he is better rested, better hydrated, or both. I also noticed a distinct lack of trouble from the others that might be playing into Virgil’s decreased anxiety, though how he would know that they were not up to something is beyond me. Then again, Virgil’s relationship with them is somewhat less tenuous then ours, so it is possible he knows something we are unaware of.” Logan’s response was a bit long winded, but Roman felt he got the gist of it.
“Basically, you don’t know, but it’s probably nothing bad.”
“Correct.”
“I guess as long as it’s nothing bad, we don’t really need to get involved, do we?” Patton asked. “I mean, he might have just been having an exceptionally good day. Maybe he had a good dream.”
“It is a possibility. But yes, I believe ‘butting in’ when Virgil has not indicated he wants us to know may be inefficient or even counter-productive. It is likely best that we leave well enough alone until there is evidence that we need to intervene for Thomas or Virgil’s well-being.
Upstairs, Virgil had turned on some music, run his bath, and summoned his drink. He sank into the warm water with a contented sigh and a single thought in his mind. “Best Birthday Ever.”
It was several weeks before the lights had any sort of answer to that one day of odd behavior from Virgil. They don’t even remember how the topic came up. The previous events became quickly over-shadowed by the new information that soon came to light. But somehow, a normal dinner conversation had turned to birthdays and Patton had oh so innocently asked, “Virgil, when is your birthday? I need to mark it on my calendar.” A perplexed expression crossed Virgil’s face.
“Like, 3 weeks ago?” The sound of eating ground to a halt.
“What?” Patton asked, emotion cracking his voice. “W-we missed it?”
“How could we not celebrate our dear Edge-Lord’s birthday?!” Roman bemoaned.
“Unacceptable,” Logan declared, “This oversight must be rectified.”
“Guys, wait,” Virgil called their attention, “We did celebrate, remember?” All eyes turned to him and Virgil felt anxiety creeping up the back of his neck. He looked down, partially alleviating the sensation. “I-I mean, Pat made me a p-pancake face and gave me the extra bacon. Logan, you- you loaned me a book. It was really good by the way. And Roman let me pick the movie. The others stayed out of trouble like they always do. And I got to relax in the bath. See? We celebrated. It was great. Easily the best birthday I’ve ever had.” Virgil had a small smile on his face as he recalled the day. But when he looked up again, the others had a range of expressions. Patton looked sad. Roman was incredulous. Logan looked skeptical. A pit began to open in Virgil’s stomach as he wondered if he had done something wrong. “What?”
“Virgil,” Logan breathed out. “Is that… your idea of a birthday celebration is a few kind acts and no trouble from the darks?”
“Yeah.” Virgil watched their expressions closely, the pit growing and anxiety twisting to despair. “Is that… wrong?” Silence hung in the kitchen for a moment. Suddenly,
“A BIRTHDAY IS SUPPOSED TO BE FESTIVE!” Roman shouted lividly, startling them all. Virgil flinched back from the sudden noise and a few tears slipped free of Patton’s eye lids.
“S-sorry. I d-didn’t, I don’t, I-” Roman’s expression softened as he listened to Virgil’s stuttered attempt at an apology. Patton got up and walked around the table to give him a hug.
“No. No, sweetie. You- you’ve not done anything wrong. It’s just, a birthday is supposed to be special. Why didn’t you say anything?”
“I don’t- It was special, Dad.” Patton’s hug did wonders to ease the fear and despair in Virgil’s chest, though the emotion was just replaced by immense confusion.
“Virgil,” Roman spoke much softer this time, pitching his voice to be low and calming. “We didn’t know. We didn’t know it was your birthday.”
“You didn’t?”
“No,” Logan stated. “Those were just, normal things, a normal day.”
“Oh.”
“It seems we still have much to learn about you Virgil. And as much left to teach you.” Logan looked to be contemplating something serious. Patton pulled back and looked into Virgil’s wide eyes with his own misty ones.
“A birthday should be a party,”
“With cake and presents!” Roman interrupted.
“It’s supposed to be a celebration of all past years and all the years to come. It is supposed to celebrate you for existing.” Virgil’s eyes began growing misty as well as Patton spoke. “We are so sorry, Kiddo. For ignoring you. For neglecting you. For not making sure you had a proper birthday celebration. You deserve so much more than you’ve gotten and we want to make sure you get it.” It’s times like these that reminds everyone that Patton is more than the happy emotions. The sadness in his voice, the guilt, and the anger Virgil knows isn’t pointed at him. He wants to reach out and comfort the father figure. So he does, both of them leaning into each other’s necks.
“It’s okay, Dad.” Virgil mumbles.
“No, it’s not. But it will be.” Patton speaks with fierce determination that sparks something calm and happy and hopeful inside of Virgil.
Three days later, Virgil came down to the most elaborate set up he had ever seen in the commons. Even the darks had been dragged out of their respective lairs to join in the festivities. They looked awkward and out of place. It was obvious they had no clue what was going on. Patton made sure to get all of their birthdays too. No one’s birthday in the mindscape never went uncelebrated again.

Do you think you might have a Killua bias? Some of your posts seem to indicate that Gon doesn’t care about Killua as much as Killua cares about him and I just don’t think that’s true at all. This is the same guy who was gonna climb the testing gate and got beaten up trying to get to his friend and I think people forget that because we get more insight into Killua towards the end of the anime.
might???? it’s actually a definite truth HAHAHA. i most certainly have and i know it. and if there are people reading what i’m saying then i ought to put this out there… i try to be fair sometimes, but i definitely have a Killua bias. and i am comfortably biased, knowing there are Gon fans/more objective people out there who can (or rather, have already done so, just not directly in response) qualify/reject what i say with better reasons. better because admittedly, i don’t quite pay the same attention to Gon as i do Killua. alternatively, people will eventually call me out on it like you did! and i’d. have to explain myself. yay you correctly pointed out what i feel and have always wanted to talk about but didn’t have a reason before…i apologise in advance for the long reply (honestly too long i don’t blame you if you don’t read it…anybody who writes something this long can only be writing it for themselves…..) but here goes.
not gonna lie, i think it’s an unpopular opinion among shippers (not that i consider myself a proper one - i ship killua with happiness. it just so happens that to killua, canonically, happiness is gon.) but it is indeed my opinion that Gon does not care about Killua as much as Killua cares about him. i think perhaps this statement is better understood in terms of what i’m not saying:
that Gon does not like Killua as much as Killua likes him
that Gon cannot care about Killua as much as Killua can care about him
(it’s honestly fairly tricky for me to fathom Gon, so the truth of these statements remains unknown to me. could go either way. imo. but definitely, i do think Gon genuinely thinks of Killua as his best friend/probably his favourite person thus far. it’s just that the Gon we see at that point isn’t necessarily as concerned with these emotions as Killua is.)
the first reason why i think Gon doesn’t care about Killua as much as Killua cares about him is in part because of the inherent inequality i see in their friendship. and this inequality stems from the beginning, from the context within which their friendship blossomed. in the exam arc, each of the main four protagonists has outright voiced their goals. i think it’s easy to forget Killua’s (because…as a self-proclaimed Killua fan i too forget) because we watched him develop a goal. unlike the three other protagonists, he did not have one when we met him and thus his goal was not as really attached to his character as is the case with the others… and frankly, it’s also the most forgettable goal in the history of all adventure-themed anything… all of which partly explains in my opinion why Killua is actually better-termed the deuteragonist despite (or precisely because of? hm) his instrumental role in moving each arc along.
(it’s also hard to say this cos the anime is on-going and the end is not really the end… complexities.)
well, either way, in short, here are Gon and Killua’s:
Gon: be a hunter/find Ging
Killua: be Gon’s friend (i know some people might think his goal was to follow Gon until he finds his own goal, but i beg to differ)
Killua himself told Illumi that’s what he wanted, and on this point, Killua delivers. his primary motivation up until the end of the anime was to help Gon and it’s hard to deny this. on his almost-deathbed, he apologises to Gon for not being able to help further. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Gon and Killua were on the same journey, but with vastly different objectives. Gon always had something else in mind, whereas Killua only wholeheartedly wanted to be useful/a friend to Gon. honestly, that attitude is hard to match up to, even if said person is not Killua. what being Killua brings to this is, in my opinion, is intensity. consequently, this further widens the gap between how much Killua cares and how much Gon cares. in my opinion, everything else is situated in this context.
the second reason comes a bit more from what i believe to be Gon’s personality, which is relevant to what you have mentioned. i see your point about Gon’s behaviour in the zoldyck family arc. i agree that he cares a lot about Killua, but at the same time, i can’t see that as an equivalent to how much Killua cares about him simply because Gon would do it for someone else too. to me, that arc embodies Gon’s character more than his relationship with Killua, although i’m sure the latter plays a role as well. i feel like Gon would do it for Kurapika, he would do it for Leorio. case in point: he went up against Hisoka in a bid to save Leorio, knowing full well how dangerous the magician is; he enthusiastically helped out Kurapika in the next arc even if it meant putting his life in danger. it just so happens that helping both Kurapika and Leorio was not to the extent we see at the zoldyck’s. but i know that it’s not a zero-sum game - just because that is part of Gon’s personality doesn’t mean that he doesn’t care especially more for Killua, i get that. but i hope it’s also clear that because of Gon’s personality, it is harder to justify using Gon’s actions in that arc to prove how much Gon cares. in short, Gon’s behaviour in the zoldyck arc was a necessary but not sufficient condition in proving that he cares for Killua as much as Killua cares for him.
on the other hand, the action doesn’t mean much on its own, but i think it’s a testament to how Gon cares about Killua when he actually picks up subtleties of Killua’s emotions/changed behaviour during the CA arc, because while Gon can be a good friend in some sense, he is also no doubt selfish and single-minded. especially during the CA arc where he had so much going on for him at any one point… it is quite something that he notices something different in Killua. although once again, imo that gives me not much to work with in terms of figuring out just how much Gon cares. but maybe the lack of things to work with suggests something in itself? after all, he had not cared enough to do something about it. it is all quite open-ended at this point. but personally, i believe that if asked to choose at any given moment in the anime, Gon would choose his own goals over Killua (and he sort of did, did he not? though i must emphasise that there is no judgement infused into that observation: it doesn’t mean i think Gon was wrong or a was a ~bad person for doing it*…sure, i semi-hate him for it but that comes from a very specific, biased place that is not meant to be taken objectively at all). nonetheless, i don’t believe Gon did so because he didn’t care about Killua enough.
(* - i actually think Gon is fully justified in making the decisions he made. it’s not a bad thing that he didn’t choose Killua over his own goals because Killua’s feelings towards Gon are/were not entirely healthy and i certainly do not mean for it to be the ideal.)
mostly, i believe Gon doesn’t have the emotional maturity/capacity (he’s a kid dammit it makes it so hard to determine if he hasn’t developed it yet or he straight up doesn’t have it…) yet to care as deeply for Killua. Gon is definitely more of a kid than Killua. also, while they both were each other’s first friend, Gon experienced friendlessness a little differently from Killua. while Killua’s lack of friends is more suitably characterised by deprivation (of emotional support/connection), i think Gon’s experience is more a result simply of lack of opportunity without fuelling the accompanying desire. it makes for a subtle difference, i think, because Killua is able to appreciate the emotional importance of a friend more so than Gon. compare these two scenes:
and
(^ and Gon simply says thank you)
they both served as each other’s emotional crutch for a while. Gon’s optimism saved Killua from some potential spiralling, Killua saved Gon a little at that point from spiralling. the difference seems to be that Killua understands better what it means (although i think while Gon downplays it, Killua gives it too much importance like oh boy, what a tragedy).
Gon is not a complete idiot. he knows Killua is important to him (”Only Killua can do it” and many other instances of him outright professing his love tbh) but i’m not quite sure he comprehends why or how exactly. and because he doesn’t understand it, i don’t think he is actively…handling it, for the lack of a better word. he sort of just takes it for granted that Killua would always be there. consequently, friendship tends to not play much of a role in his decision-making processes. it’s in that sense mostly, that i feel Gon does not care about Killua as much as Killua cares about him.

Thor Ragnarok movie review
Amidst the solo-character filmsets in the MCU, the Thor movies have never managed to have the same kind of reputation as their contemporaries. They don’t have the distinction of starting the whole shebang like the Iron Man films or the praise from fans and critics alike the Captain America movies have received.
Director Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows, Hunt for the Wilderpeople) now brings his own voice into the proceedings of the trilogy capping Thor Ragnarok, a film that manages to elevate the other two films in its series by bringing the Norse God of Thunder’s character arc full circle.
[Full review under the cut]
Thor (Chris Hemsworth) has been trying to figure out what his visions of Asgard’s destruction and the Infinity Stones from Avengers: Age of Ultron meant since that film’s end. When he’s told that Ragnarok, the end of Asgard, is already underway, he rushes to return home to find what Loki (Tom Hiddleston) disguised as Odin (Anthony Hopkins) has made of it since Thor: The Dark World. After forcing Loki to reveal himself, the two go to Earth where Loki hid their father. Finding him near death, Odin’s last words to them are a warning about the imminent return of Hela the Goddess of Death (Cate Blanchett). After their first encounter with Hela leads to them being thrown out of the Bifrost midtrip, the two gods are stranded on a junkyard planet called Sakaar run by the Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum). While Thor looks for a way to get back home between being forced to compete in the Grand Master’s gladiatorial Contest of Champions against the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Hela goes to Asgard to resurrect her army and lead a brutal conquest.
How funny Thor Ragnarok can be should come as no surprise to anyone familiar with Taika Waititi’s other films. Tone in this film is communicated in a very matter-of-fact style, letting the characters’ behavior and reactions to the situation at hand speak for themselves. When a moment is supposed to be funny, it can be laugh-out-loud hysterical while still being able to transition seamlessly into more dramatic or thrilling sequences without missing a step. Waititi’s control over the tone and style of this film is one of the major things it has over its main predecessor, Thor: The Dark World.
The original Thor had a distinct style of its own as well thanks to the direction of Kenneth Branagh that could serve it well in either grounded Earth moments or theatrical Asgardian ones, but The Dark World didn’t have many distinct goals of its own on those terms. In Thor Ragnarok, the tone hues closer to the likes of Big Trouble in Little China or the 1980 Flash Gordon movie, self-aware without ever entering full wink-at-the-camera territory.
Side characters are one of the key places the film stays grounded within the alternatively bombastic/comedic space fantasy events. Goldblum as the Grand Master is at his most, well, himself as he’s been in a role, he serves the film as a sort of secondary antagonist for Thor during the middle stretch of the movie where he’s stuck on Sakaar. He’s a seeker of entertainment, mainly through the gladiatorial combat he organizes that has all the flashy style of professional wrestling. The fact that Goldblum himself seems to be having a grand old time playing him doesn’t hurt either. Also on Sakaar is Korg (Waititi), a soft-spoken giant rock monster alien that seeks to lead a revolt on Sakaar to free all the enslaved fighters under the Grand Master’s control. Waititi’s line delivery as Korg are exemplary of the matter-of-fact style humor this movie excels at using with plain spoken observations on how events are playing out.
Eventually joining up with Thor in his journey to get back to Asgard are the Hulk, Loki and Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson). Hulk has been Code Green for two years straight since arriving on Sakaar after disappearing at the end of Age of Ultron, in that time he’s managed to develop distinct childlike persona of his own separated from Bruce Banner. The Green Goliath has been caught up in the fame and attention that fighting in the Grand Master’s games has brought him. He’s initially in no hurry to change back to puny Banner or help Thor leave. The new, if simplistic, way Hulk can express himself is the best addition to the character’s portrayal in the MCU since Ruffalo first started playing him.
There’s not much new to say about Tom Hiddleston’s Loki that hasn’t been said repeatedly since his first on screen appearance. The interesting parts of his performance this time around involve a few new wrinkles in how Thor has become jaded by their dynamic. The God of Mischief has double crossed his brother so many times that Thor is anticipating it at this point, especially when Loki finds favor with the Grand Master in a way that could jeopardize any escape plans. He’s been a fan favorite since the beginning for good reason and Thor Ragnarok uses these new elements to provide more moments to highlight him, especially a moment towards the end that seems inspired by Hiddleston’s past in-character appearances at San Diego Comic Con.
Valkyrie is presented in an archetype we don’t often get to see women characters embody. She’s an embittered, hard-drinking former elite Asgardian warrior who retreated to Sakaar after the rest of the Valkyries were wiped out by Hela. She’s been making a living gathering fighters for the Grand Master ever since. When Thor finds out her identity, he starts trying to convince her to try fighting for Asgard again. Valykrie’s dynamic with Thor is fun. He grew up hearing stories about the might of the Valkyries, so when he first realizes who she is he becomes a bit star struck, fumbling over his words while trying to get her to fight for a worthy cause once again. When she finally does, she’s easily the most effective fighter among the group Thor brings together to fight against Hela.
Hela herself comes from Odin’s time as a warmongering leader who sought to conquer and subjugate realms rather than protect them. When she comes back and sees the revisionist sheen the All Father has put over Asgard’s history, she feels insulted that Odin would diminish the role she played in giving Asgard its grand status. She revels in the brutality on combat, mowing down armies with her endless supply of dark swords and delighting in the cruelty of it. She recruits the slovenly Asgardian Skurge (Karl Urban) as her Executioner to enforce her will on the rest of the realm and to help snuff out any resistance. Blanchett’s joyful indulgence playing this malicious figure push what could have simply been a cackling mad villainess into something more complex by leaning into the arrogance the character exudes, which is backed up by the immense power we see the goddess wielding on screen.
The villainess’ role in this movie ultimately become providing a contrast against Thor so that we can see how far he’s come as a character since his first movie. In origin and attitude, Hela is a dark extreme version of who Thor was before his initial humbling in that film at Odin’s hands. We start this film by seeing how Thor has already dedicated himself to saving Asgard from its prophesized fate of Ragnarok, because “that’s what heroes do.” His arc in this film, after losing Odin and Mjolnir within the span of minutes of each other, is to figure out how he’s going to define himself going forwards on this quest if he’s to be able to save anything. Since the first film, Thor’s relation to the throne has been at the core of his character arc as we’ve seen him go from an entitled brat of a warrior prince to Avenger and finally, by the end of this film, being truly worthy to lead the people of Asgard. How Thor Ragnarok ties everything that’s happened to Thor since his first appearance in the MCU is why I began this review by saying the movie is so good it elevates Thor’s entire trilogy. Accomplishing that while still letting the hero be the butt of the joke on several occasions is another feat of how well it juggles tone.
The production design of Thor Ragnarok goes together with the overall mood of the piece to make it such a fun time at the movies. Each of the major locations that this film is set in have an aesthetic unto themselves that give each of them a unique sense of life. Asgard maintains the earthy and golden hues that have defined in on film up to this point. This puts the home of the gods into visual contrast with the bright, playful design of Sakaar ripped right from the pages of Jack Kirby, where the Marvel version of Thor originated. Since Sakaar is an intergalactic scrapyard, rained down on by portals from across the universe, a lot of the tech and buildings on the planet look cobbled together from pieces that were probably never meant to go together. Helping to further differentiate these locations is the score from Mark Mothersbaugh (of Devo fame), incorporating leitmotifs consistent with the instrumentals of the previous films for Asgard, chip-tune-esque electronic music for Sakaar and when those elements start blending together on screen, so does the music. Then there’s the costume designs, which seem to take most of their influence from equal parts Jack Kirby and Walter Simonson’s work on the comics, especially the designs of Hela and her undead army.
Thor Ragnarok is satisfying as a trilogy capper in a way I don’t think anyone could’ve seen coming. I went into this film expecting to like it quite a bit, since I’m a fan of Waititi’s other directorial work. I didn’t expect it to all come together in a way that makes a film series that’s changed directors twice feel like the conclusions reached here were deliberately pre-planned. There’s only one problem I have with the film and that’s how cavalier it disposes of characters and elements from the previous Thor movies that never got their due previously and now likely never will. Other than that, Thor Ragnarok marks a superhero movie that manages to stand out spectacularly, even among the other great offerings from the genre this year.

Successful Startup Restaurant Business Plans
The way toward opening a restaurant from beginning to end can be, and ought to be, a strenuous one. It requires a gigantic measure of research and assurance, and it can without much of a stretch get overpowering. Frequently customers ask, "What should I do?" It's the correct inquiry, however not effectively replied. Why? There is an entire exhibit of things that must be done all the while in starting any business, yet particularly one as mind boggling as a restaurant.
Things being what they are, the place do you begin? The best spot to begin is with an arrangement, obviously. Without one, it resembles speaking honestly. Simply heeding your gut feelings is a formula for disappointment. "In the event that you don't have the foggiest idea where you're going, you are probably not going to go anyplace beneficial." So you start with a marketable strategy, a demonstrated establishment of progress and the guide to your fantasy getting to be reality. A citation worth recollecting and putting into training is, "Neglecting to plan is intending to fall flat" from The 7 Propensities for Very EffectivePeople, Stephen R. Flock).
How about we layout two significant advances important to make a fruitful field-tested strategy:
1. You should have a thought of the kind of restaurant you need. That implies thinking of a well-considered idea, envisioning it with designs, and depicting recorded as a hard copy. Your whole marketable strategy will advance from this: how to breath life into that fantasy restaurant; how to give it its one of a kind character; and what makes it unique in relation to different restaurants.
2. Concentrate effective restaurants so as to detail a model that fits what you have at the top of the priority list. You don't need to duplicate them, simply decide why you think they are fruitful. Is it their nourishment? Is it their benevolent administration or climate? In all probability it will be every one of the three, fitting together to shape an absolute idea: incredible nourishment, brief and mindful administration, and an agreeable, if not exceptional, air.
I like to utilize the case of a three-legged draining stool to effectively express this idea. On the off chance that one leg is frail, at that point the entire stool is powerless and breakdown, ideally not with you on it.
When I recommend gaining from watching other fruitful restaurants, remember this idea. Your restaurant thought must be remarkably yours. Consolidate the best pieces of other effective restaurants into your very own imaginative form of what you need. Maybe it's the individual administration and one of a kind sustenance introduction that you have appreciated at one restaurant, or the stylistic layout subject at another. Mix every one of the components that you feel make those restaurants effective into your very own absolute idea of sustenance, air, and administration, and you will have made your own unique.
To start with, make a diagram of what your field-tested strategy will incorporate. Keep in mind, BE Explicit! Composing a strategy constrains you to thoroughly consider where you are going, how you intend to arrive, and it is a proven guide to progress. By sorting out your reasoning, you are increasingly ready to make an interpretation of your contemplations to paper (or a PC screen) and watch a thorough strategy start to take structure.
THE Marketable strategy
The Official Outline: Your Official Rundown ought to be brief and two-overlay, containing:
1.) A well-considered, consolidated adaptation of the marketable strategy, a diagram in building up your restaurant idea.
2.) The official outline gives a financier, or potential speculator, an understanding into your reasoning and a suggested guarantee for benefits. Dense and to the point, the official outline gives your potential speculators the embodiment of the strategy without processing the whole report, and makes a prompt enthusiasm to peruse further.
The Organization Structure: Portray the legitimate business substance that you have chosen to direct your business. Your bookkeeper and legal advisor will prompt you dependent on your own conditions.
Restaurant Administration Classes: By what means will you convey administration to your clients? Is it accurate to say that you are considering table administration, with a pause and transport staff, or the constrained staff of cheap food or quick easygoing administration frameworks?
Your administration idea will decide the capabilities expected of the representatives you will procure and the compensation scale suitable to each.
Administration: What disposition and character should your administration staff show? In what manner will they collaborate with your clients? From behind a counter, in a cheap food setting, or very close, taking and carrying orders legitimately to the table with a grin. Great administration, in addition to a lovely frame of mind of your hold up staff goes far in bringing your clients back.
Menu: Work out your menu. Be explicit, with a definite depiction of every menu thing and anticipated estimating. Clarify why you have chosen the menu things and how they identify with your administration framework. Making a Caesar plate of mixed greens table-side does not work in a drive-through eatery. The menu and your administration framework are the establishment of your restaurant.
Client Profile: In this area, you will portray your objective clients, explaining who your objective market potential clients are: their age, sex, salary, occupation, conjugal status. Present as clear a profile of your focused on client as could be expected under the circumstances, with a sharp eye to socioeconomics. Work out what you think it is, and after that help your supposition with certainties to back up how you see the socioeconomics.
Rivalry: What are different restaurants in the quick zone of your area? How does your idea for nourishment, administration, stylistic layout, and air vary from them? Which sorts of restaurants are doing the best business?
Advertising Technique: Framework your promoting procedure, point by point. Show how it networks with your idea. A profile of your objective market is basic, particularly the particular market inside a one-to three-mile range of your restaurant area. By receiving a hands-on, customized approach in your advertising endeavors, you will maintain a strategic distance from the pointless costs of a broad communications battle.
Area, Area, Area: Clarify why you picked the area of your restaurant and why you feel it is most appropriate to pull in clients. Feature the significant socioeconomics of your area, and why the menu, topic, and stylistic layout intently coordinate the profile of your objective market.
Proprietorship: Rundown the proprietors/accomplices of your organization and the rates each will get. Characterize what job they will play in the organization and incorporate their resumes. A bank will without a doubt need to see the budget summaries of each, and their most recent two years' expense forms.
The executives: State in detail what your administration procedure will be. Will the main proprietor, or proprietors, work as general administrator or will you enlist an accomplished GM? Whichever way works, as long as you, the proprietor, are centered around doing the correct things, and ensuring that your administrator is doing things right, that is, those things that make a restaurant gainful. Express the key places of your supervisory crew.
Operational Frameworks: Characterize your operational frameworks, the navigational instruments and rudder of your incredible ship. They set the course, controlling the ship on a straight and smooth course. By what method will you guarantee preparing, steady continuous tasks, and viable controls? This ought to be condensed in your Marketable strategy.
Money related Prerequisites: Demonstrate your monetary necessities in four essential regions:
1. Development work out expense per square Foot
2. FF&E (furniture, installations and gear), including the style bundle pictures/artistic creations, and so on.
3. Expert expenses: lawful, bookkeeping, structural, licenses, grants, and incidental charges
4. Working capital: enough for opening inventories, pre-opening costs, for example, preparing, and fortitude while the business revs up.
Inside Floor Plan and Height Renderings: In this segment of your marketable strategy, you should give a story plan and rise rendering of your restaurant.
Deals, Benefit and Misfortune Projections: This segment should appear, in spreadsheet position, deals projections, which are basic to building up a spending limit. The whole of lease, nourishment expenses, and work expenses subtracted from deals will decide most of your main concern. Get More Information Filipino Restaurant
On the off chance that you will examine and look into every one of these means, and pursue this strategy diagram, you will get familiar with the data expected to give you the most obvious opportunity for progress.
Tom Wilscam's book is an awesome asset for anybody needing to perceive how a startup restaurant advisor can help in making their restaurant a triumph. The manner in which he introduces the data is intriguing and straightforward. The book is efficient, all around altered and very much created. The spread is attractive.
For over 40 years, Wilscam has worked and helped other people begin restaurants. His experience has demonstrated to him the significance of having a demonstrated idea, institutionalized working methodology and the capacity to help the new restaurant proprietor succeed.

Concrete pavers: Of all paving this sort had the widest range by way of color, sizes and patterns. Such a paving could be a low priced and high quality paving (like C&M pavers) or a high priced/ high finish paving (Anston paving is an effective example). In the recent deserts of the Middle East, the desert oasis offered the inspiration for the ancient Persian-inspired paradise gardens. Backyard fountains harmonize water and are designed to satisfy both practical and aesthetic purposes. POWERAGGREGATES.IE Fountains embody symbolic, creative and social ideas as they enliven locations and reinvigorate folks. But not like sandstone is a much tougher material but manageable with a diamond blade. Bluestone is available in a wide number of sizes and a few fascinating patterns (Ashlar is a popular one!) Although not fairly as vital as sandstone a superb high quality sealer can be a good idea. I are inclined to suggest a penetrating sealer with bluestone. Concrete pavers: Of all paving this sort had the widest range by way of color, sizes and patterns. Such a paving could be a low priced and high quality paving (like C&M pavers) or a high priced/ high finish paving (Anston paving is an effective example). The huge range of concrete paving may be overwhelming, and i are likely to advocate the medium to excessive end pavers (unless you will have a tight funds after all). Assume about colour and elegance and finances and that ought to assist narrow your search down. See the outline of supplies which the sheds are fabricated from. If it is fabricated from wood, make certain it is manufactured using business grade wooden. In any case, a great alternative can be metal model as it is designed to last years.. Apart from, it is very important know what size is correct for all of your things that you just wish to retailer. So you have to checklist the objects that take up floor space in shed and measure their lengths and widths. Putting a shed together is usually a time-consuming activity, so it is always wise to comply with installation instruction and equip yourself with vital instruments to do the job. Though metal sheds may be constructed quicker than wood sheds, they do not include the natural enchantment of picket shed. With a wooden shed, individuals can recast the shed's look in keeping with their imagination and creativity. When you perceive your needs, it is time for procuring. Sometimes, they can present in nearly any house hardware store.

Firstly there is the kind that has feminine connectors on two sides and male connectors on the other two sides. Typically talking, the female connectors are a series of loops which mesh with the pins on the other two sides. There are also tiles available on the market which are successfully one way connectors. Once you click the tiles into position, you can't easily carry them up again. Some manufacturers solely supply one design of deck tile, generally with four slats of wooden operating in the same path. Generally there may be an choice of a 5 - 6 slat tile. You may examine every measurement, not that you're going to must, these are professionally drawn plans, however made for absolutely the beginner. Stuff I wrote down while making ‘Identity’
the following is some stuff I wrote down about the tracks on ‘Identity’ as I was making the EP. These were recorded between the months of October 2015 and probably January or February 2016.
Hey, guys! I know I put a lot of thought into the songs on "Identity", so I thought it best to give a rundown of each song on the EP so that everything is interpreted as intended and you guys get to know more about, and hopefully make a deeper connection with them! "Here we go..."
Not quite a hard-hitting b@nger, not quite a soft song, track 1 is an opener that strives to describe me in a radio-length pop song.
The title track of the EP, "Identity" is my attempt at fitting myself onto a song that people can listen to and get a good gist of me and who I am. I'm a child of God first, and also an artist with four main areas of specialty. My first interest was Architecture/Engineering and overall design, second is music, Third is writing and fourth is photography! I love to mix them up all the time, too! For instance, this song (and all the others I've written) is a result of my music skills intermingling with my writing skills. Outside of that, "Identity" sort of paraphrases my life and adventures up to now and what had allowed me to become who I am right now. I also elaborate on my musical identity, particularly in the bridge. I love so many different types of music that I have decided to identify as a "genre-bender" or "genreless" artist. For me, just about any musical style or influence is fair game in my recording process. These songs represent the first opportunity for me to experiment with the concept of blending genres! I wanted the production to be relatively uniform in tone, so I played the instrumental parts with the same effects but in varying styles within the given sonic arrangement. I was inspired by the flow of the amazing Alessia Cara's vocal delivery in songs like "Seventeen" and "Four Pink Walls", Ed Sheeran in general (but especially on "x"), as well as some smaller but still significant influences from Melanie Martinez, Halsey, Beck, The Notorious B.I.G. and Drake. Okay, I threw a little Justin Bieber and The Beatles in there as well! Lolz! I don't know how prevalent this is to other people, but the percussion part is probably the most dynamic element in the entire song as it not only changes styles within itself while complimenting the rest of the instrumental, but follows with the lyrical content and vocal inflections and volume changes. Because of its self-contained dynamic-ness, "Identity" took the longest time to produce and became the most thoughtful and intricate songs on the EP. Main message of the song: I am an artist of many disciplines, a loving soul and a musically eclectic individual; not to be categorized easily... And just trust God; The words I keep with me. I even have those words engraved on the inside of my "blue class ring"! Track 2 is simply, a lighthearted joke.
I was thinking of rhymes last summer and the two lines, "Got my pants ripped up, uniform like Goku/More fire songs than my Avatar Roku" ultimately evolved into "That Hype, Doh..." This song is really me showing my fun, seemingly careless side in a jokingly cocky, hip hop-based, hopefully mainstream-worthy song. I start by just spitting random rhymes and references (from Green Day to Harry Potter) laced with substance for a while before delving into a bit of real stuff. The chorus is meant to be laughed at and to "bring up that hype, doh..." at parties and stuff. The production has a lot of Beck influence as well as N.W.A. and alternative rock influence. New and old Taylor Swift influences can also be found in the chorus and super intricate drum beat. I used an array of different rapping styles to create something all my own. Main message of the song: There doesn't always have to be a point to things. It can be just for fun or just 'cause you want to. Jokes are almost always in style. With track 3, I wanted to put in a softer number because I am not all heavy and powerful on the inside.
There's a good amount of "softness", so to speak in my heart, and "The UnderLyer" really embodies that part of me for this EP. I often carry myself as a strong, pretty much invincible character; not to say that I'm not that way most of the time, but I am also not stone cold and apathetic in the least. Lyrically, the song takes a positive, adult stance on a lot of rather dark subjects that I and many others wrestle with in our minds. In terms of musical influences and production, "The UnderLyer" is essentially like The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Ed Sheeran made a live performance at a pub or a bar. It features loop-pedal-based sounds (a signature of Ed's) and live production techniques as well as a prominent bassline that (at least to me) is reminiscent of the groovy, laid back style and flow of the Chili Peppers. The title actually came from a phrase that the vibe of the original bassline evoked in my head; the type of atmosphere and persona that the song could take on. I also wrote the lyrics to the bassline and "The UnderLyer" is actually the only song on the EP that was written and produced this way. I obviously don't have the best time/content dial because the song was originally meant to be about 2 minutes and 34 seconds in my mind before I extended it to probably 3 minutes and 30 seconds, but it finally comes to an end at 4:27. I aimed for this time after I had fleshed out the lyrics because I have a weird relationship with numbers that evoke personas in them for me and those three just look really cool together; like Charlie's Angels or something (it also matches the exact song length of "Hotline Bling" by Drake almost perfectly). Now, wait, for the segue... Main message of the song: If you're going through rough times in your life, internally or externally, stay positive and keep going through until you get to the end. It will get better. Track 4 is a rebellious song about a rebellion that isn't really a rebellion. It's only meant to make a statement.
On "Y I Don't Care", the drum beat part at the beginning can be interpreted as us as a generation being steadily brought up in a good way I guess, before getting increasingly tripped up, hated on, desensitized or otherwise negatively affected before going into the main beat. When it hits, it can symbolize the collective members of Gen Y saying, "Enough is enough." Not really angrily, but forceful enough to push away all the opposition from those that find our differences from them unsettling. Honestly, the song only sounds menacing and fight-nightish because I'm trying to effectively get a point across and being seemingly aggressive unfortunately seems to be the language that most people understand best. "You mad, bro?" Hate to burst your bubble but I'm not even angry. I originally thought that "Y I Don't Care" would be no more than 5 minutes in length the way I wrote it, but the topics that I had put in it extended it to a near 6 and a half minute song! I even had to take a few lines out at the end because I thought the song was running too long and that I'd lose the interest of my listeners (so I definitely see myself revisiting and/or revamping this song in the future). But don't let the length drive you away; this song keeps you entertained from beginning to end! I'd say that all the songs are genre-benders in their own right, but this one is the genre-bender. Too many influences to count, but Linkin Park, Demi Lovato, Kanye West, KISS, Paramore, my man, Michael Jackson and the later work of the Jacksons are among the biggest. "Y I Don't Care" can actually be seen as an oddball anthem for Millenials. It's long and epic, brimming with strong messages that most younger people can relate to and a little chant-worthy at times! We are different and we force others to stretch their understanding in order to understand us. We "put their minds on the brink!" Main message of the song: We're gonna do what we want to do in life, and it doesn't matter if it's different from what's been done before. We are the future of humanity, so it's gonna happen either way. "Y I Don't Care" is actually my favorite song on the EP because lyrically, I feel it comes from the heart a bit moreso than the other tracks. It also has the coolest instrumentation of any of them in my opinion! "Identity" is probably my close second, though as it is a song all about me and who I am.
Track 5 is a closer, a reiteration and a thank you.
Crazy how many of these songs were written last summer! I wanted "What I Sound Like?" to be the closer, but it really acts as a dawning of my music career; a strong sign that much more is to come! Even if the song or any of my songs don't get really big, I'll still be making music because I honestly do it for me first; which leads me into even further elaborating on my musical identity. In addition, I want my songs to inspire people. If I can do it (as in whatever I set my mind to), than you, the listener, can do it too. "What I Sound Like?" also encourages the people of the world to learn and grow as people, while staying young at heart. There's a reason why Echosmith wants to be like the cool kids; 'cause being a kid is cool and everyone knows it. I also take some time to thank the listeners for checking out this music I've put out. Some of the bigger influences are the beautiful Tori Kelly, Linkin Park once again, 2Pac, Foo Fighters and... Ya know, after awhile, all the influences I was drawing from start to blur together and they ultimately evolve into the song that you end up hearing. Just about every aspect of "What I Sound Like?" was short and fast-paced. It was really the song that went from 0 to 100... real quick. 99.999 something% of the song was recorded and mastered in one sitting! (Most of the vocals were done in one take, as well) I finished the song in less than 5 hours in one night and it actually became the only real radio-length song on the EP at 3:21. I was happy about that because it shows the diversity of my music in the context of song length. Also, for the first time, I didn't feel as if I was over-writing song lyrics as much. I still filled the song with plenty of info though, so I'm also very proud of that! Main message of the song: I like all types of music and I like mixing them up together, you can do it too if you want, and it's okay to stay young on the inside.
Well, thanks for reading and thanks for listening if you have. Ask me any other questions you have using the hashtag #EvansIdentity and I'll try to answer them.
Thanks again, have a great day and good bye!
