You just moved in a house in Germany. It was a dreamy place, especially in winter.
A white cloth of snow covered your yard. You and your dog, Britney, loved to play outside in the cold weather. One day, you were just back from work when you found your neighbour waiting for you outside your property.
Ah yes, your neighbour, a 30-something year old divorced dad, very cute and very blond, who apparently didn’t have time to introduce himself yet.
“Your dog destroyed the snowman my daughters made.” He began, in a harsh tone. Is ‘hello’ out of fashion now?
You frowned. “What?”
He pointed to the part of the courtyard that your houses shared. You could just see a heap of snow in the middle. “I don’t see any snowman.”
“Well maybe because your dog destroyed it, as I just said.” His tone was more annoyed now. You still couldn’t understand what he wanted from you, so you kept looking at him, raising your eyebrow and shrugging. He sighed. “Let me explain it in easier terms. My daughters are here for Christmas Holidays and I want them to have the time of their lives. Please, keep your dog at bay.”
Whatever, you certainly wouldn’t let that ruin your day, so you went on like nothing happened. But the next day, at the same hour, he was there, once again. Arms crossed and furious blue eyes.
“What now?”
“My kids built a snowman again. And your stupid dog destroyed it. Again.”
“Hey! Don’t call my dog ‘stupid’!” What a dick. He was seriously starting to get on your nerves.
“You lock your dog then!”
“I won’t! Britney is free to do what she wants!”
He scoffed. “Of course you named her Britney.”
“What’s wrong with that name?” As you were about to insult him further, you realized you had no time to waste with that asshole. You stomped past him and opened your house. “Why don’t you tell your kids to build a snowman in your side of the yard?” You slammed the door behind you.
The bickering went on for a few days, until you decided to straight up ignore your neighbour, hoping he eventually would give up. And a week later he finally did. You weren’t welcomed with his presence complaining in front of your home, at which you were kinda sorry for, somehow. Instead, all you could hear were laughters. Kids’ laughters.
Two girls were running around the courtyard, jumping and playing with Britney. Well, that’s new. You couldn’t help but smile at the sweet sight.
Your smile faded when you saw your neighbour walking towards you. Oh, here he is. You prepared yourself to hear the same, if not angrier, scolding words. But, surprisingly, he wasn’t showing the usual serious expression. “They seem to have fun.”
You couldn’t believe he was actually able of using a kind tone of voice. “Yeah.”
“Maybe we have found a way to keep all three of them busy and happy.” He added, before turning towards you and offering you his hand. “My name’s Nico, by the way. I’m really sorry for the way I behaved. It may have been a little excessive.”
“Only a little?” You asked sarcastically, but shook his cold hand nevertheless. He had a strong hold. “I’m Y/N.”
All of a sudden, your dog ran fast to greet you, followed by the two girls. “Brit–“ you didn’t even have the time to formulate her name, that the dog threw you on the ground, and obviously Nico with you. You ended up literally on top of him, as the dog made a turn and went back to the girls.
“Oh my god, I’m so sorry.” You tried to steady yourself, sinking your gloved palms in the snow by his sides. “I’m really doing everything to make you like me, right?”
Nico laughed. “Don’t worry.”
You stared at him laughing, in awe. You had never seen him smile. “You have snow in your hair.”

A penguin sighting. Are they discussing building igloos?
Tumblr media
Speaking of cold... Iryna invited Darren Dreamer over because she wanted to be best friends with him. He had no problem with that, and also kept tickling her. But will he accept a little bit of charm? Nope!
Darren, Cassandra's just not that into you. Get over it.
(I have a mod by Pescado that makes Sims more or less susceptible to flirts, love, etc, depending on their personalities, aspirations, and if they're already in love. Cassie sure didn't have a tough time falling in love with three guys, but Darren... gonna have to get him to catch her with someone else I guess.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh so proud of himself. He could have had woohoo but noooo he wanted to destroy a snowman instead. Dick.
Tumblr media
I'm really liking Benjamin Long though. Maybe if he waits a while Iryna will have sowed enough oats that she'll be amenable to fulfilling those marriage wants of his. Maybe.

Snow Day Off From School
 The moment the alarm went off she realized how cold her entire body was. She had put on fleece sweats, two long sleeves and a hoodie and big fluffy socks before going to sleep last night, but it was the coldest the weather had been in ages. There was no light streaming in from the windows, as the sun did not rise for another hour or so. She stretched out each limb, breathing slowly and controlled. These days she worked hard to ensure her body was at peace and calm throughout the day, she never cheated her morning routine. Stretching and warming up her body in front of her large mirror, she could feel her tiny waist swimming in the large layers of her clothes. She looked tired, but beautiful. She brought a large sleeve up to her eye and rubbed and blinked, fully accepting the fact that she would need to bundle up very well today for her walk to the bus stop that took her to college. She lightly pranced down the stairs, preparing herself a large mug of matcha, her favorite drink. She decided to quit coffee back when she was loosing weight. She realized how it would peak her anxiety, make her brain foggy, messed with her sleep and give her the jitters. With the matcha she could now have a clear brain, which allowed her to clearly see her goals and move towards them. She knew it was her job to ensure she gave her body exactly what it needed to operate at tip top shape. She was so content with her new found control she hardly realized what was going on outside. She squinted her eyes at the street lamp across the park, and noticed white specs falling from the sky. Her eyes grew wide! It had been so long since she had seen snow. She raced back up to her room, to check her phone. Her small town usually fully shut down whenever it snowed because they so rarely experienced it. This included the buses. She could not begin to fathom walking to the college in this weather, it was a 45 minute walk. Shivering at the thought, she hopped back into her bed, pulled her covers up to her collar bones and scrolled through her emails. The only light in the room coming from her phone...  “SCHOOL CANCELLED DUE TO SNOW” the most recent email read. Yes! She thought. She was a little stressed about some upcoming projects, she could really use this time to do some extra studying. She then received a text from her S/O asking if she’d like to go for hot cocoa and snowman building later in the day. She graciously accepted.  She spent a few hours reading, did a yoga routine, drank her matcha and made a little bowl of chocolate cranberry oats for breaky. She understood now the importance of fueling her body with food. Before, she would restrict for days which always lead to horrid binges, but her new found desire to listen to her body and take the best care of it possible had took-over in recent times. This was the best thing that had ever happened to her. She now could experience the most out of life in the beautiful body she’d always desired. She got ready, adding some blush to her high cheek bones. Ever since she lost the weight, her face hollowed out in a very attractive way. She adored herself, gave herself a hug and smiled.  She made two hot chocolates with almond milk, cinnamon & a dollop of coconut whip in her favorite thermoses at home. She preferred preparing her own food now, it soothed her to know exactly what was in the drink, as she had dealt with stomach problems in the past. She liked the feeling of “a calm stomach”, so she vowed to make healthy choices at home.  She headed outside to the park, hot chocolate’s swishing in both hands. She saw her s/o waiting in the middle of the park.  “Whaaaat, you already made me one!? Thanks so much love, looks like you want to get right to the snowman building hey?” They said. She nodded with a smirk on her face. The two of them began building the snowman, she had some trouble pushing the large snowballs, but s/o offered to help.   “Put those down, I need a hug, its cold out here!” S/o scooped her up and spun her in circles. “Whoa... okay missy, you seem way too light, I thought all of your cute layers would’ve added 10 pounds on ya!” “Nope” she said, now check out this eight winged snow angel i’m about to make. “Huh??” s/o seemed confused by what she meant. She pushed s/o back a bit, and s/o fell over a previous snow man ball, onto their back. She pounced on top, now this is something she would not have dreamed doing before the weight loss! “Okay, start snow angel-ing!” she exclaimed! “OH, so this is what you meant when you said eight winged snow angel, I got it now, double the legs and arms... ha ha you think you’re a funny one don’t ya?” “Of course I am, funnier than you” she nodded and winked, assuring s/o she was right. Her new found confidence was unlike any other time in her life. She felt beautiful inside and out, and could now express herself in ways she couldn’t before. It had all been worth it.

Mother and son meet again years later as strangers on opposing sides.
AO3 - Fanfiction
~~~~
Kanjigar was alert as he walked through the emerald lit caverns. Merlin had assured him that as he was invited he would be perfectly safe but the place still stank of magic. It radiated from the very stone under his feet. One could never be too careful around sorcery.
Eventually he reached an intricately carved wooden door.
He lifted his hand and knocked, careful to not scratch the wood with his knuckles. Nothing. He knocked again. There was no answer. With a frown he tried the handle and found it to be unlocked.
The cave behind the door was well lit by candles and crystals and a warm fire. Scrolls were spread haphazardly across the sturdy oaken table in the center of the room and piled on top of each other on shelves carved into the wall. Jars of herbs and other things were mixed in with the scrolls. A gnome skull grinned at him from the mantle of the fireplace.
“Master Merlin?” Kanjigar called out as he took a step in.
Still no response. The thick red-brown rug muffled his steps.
Had the wizard forgotten about him? He didn’t want to be disrespectful but in the short time he’d known him, Merlin did seem a little… well… absent minded.
Kanjigar glanced at the fire. Merlin couldn’t be gone too far if he’d left a fire going. Of course there was the possibility it was sustained by magic…
A quiet shuffling noise drew the troll’s attention. He looked across the table and then blinked in surprise. There, peering warily from just over the edge of the table, was a pair of bright blue eyes topped with an unruly mop of black hair.
It was a child. A human child.
They let out a yelp when their eyes met his and ducked back under the table.
Kanjigar’s nostrils flared in surprise.
What was a child doing here?
“Ah! There you are.”
Kanjigar startled at Merlin’s voice. He glanced back and saw him just coming in from the tunnels. How he had managed to open the door without Kanjigar hearing he wasn’t sure.
“I’m afraid it will be a while yet before your charm is ready,” The wizards said as he started setting his bags down on the table. The scents of various herbs wafted into the air as he jostled them. “I have had more pressing matters to deal with and I am lacking ingredients. Perhaps you can find some of the rarer ones for me.”
“Why is there a child here?” Kanjigar asked.
He didn’t like to interrupt but he was very puzzled.
Merlin blinked at him for a moment, before understanding appeared on his face.
“Oh you mean James.”
He looked around with a frown.
“Where has that boy gotten off to?”
“I’m here,” A soft voice said from the far side of the table.
The boy’s head poked up just enough that he could see Kanjigar before he vanished again.
“Why are you hiding?” Merlin asked with a huff. “Come out and greet the Trollhunter properly. You have nothing to fear.”
“The Trollhunter?” The boy, James, poked his head up again, eyes wide. “He’s the Trollhunter?”
Evidently Merlin had told him about him.
Kanjigar slowly moved around the table. James watched him warily but didn’t hide again. Was this his first time meeting a troll? If it was he was taking it really well.
Kanjigar glanced around noticing that there were a lot of scrolls about troll history and rudimentary knowledge of the magical world lying among the more complicated texts.
It clinked. This must be Merlin’s new apprentice. Kanjigar gave the boy an appraising glance over. James shifted nervously under his gaze, blue eyes flickering to the side. He looked like he was barely out of welphood. A mere youngling. If he had been a troll his parents would have been still keeping him close.
Kanjigar frowned. He had never understood why humans would send their children off so young, but they had always been strange creatures.
He approached James. Once he was about two paces away Kanjigar stopped and knelt to the boy’s level.
“Hello Young James, I am Kanjigar son of Terragar. It is an honor to make your acquaintance.”
The boy stared at him with wide eyes. His gaze snagged on the amulet hung around his neck for a moment, before he looked at Merlin uncertainly.
“Go on and introduce yourself, boy,” Merlin said.
James looked back at Kanjigar again and took a nervous step forward and then another. The troll held himself still so as to not startle him. Finally James stood in front of him.
He held out a quivering hand toward Kanjigar in what the troll recognized was an invitation to shake hands. Another odd human custom.
“I’m Jim… son of Barbara,” The boy said haltingly. “Nice to meet you?”
Kanjigar carefully took the small hand and moved it up and down once.
“Well met young Jim,” He said.
He gave the boy a gentle smile, careful to not show his teeth.
James’… Jim’s eyes studied Kanjigar’s face. The boy’s shoulders relaxed just slightly and he smiled back.
~~~~
“Kanjigar!!!!”
The Trollhunter chuckled as the tiny fleshbag launched himself at him.
“Hello young Jim,” He said as he caught the boy mid-air.
“Are you going to stay for a while?” The boy asked as he squirmed in the troll’s hands. “Did you bring me anything? Did you have any cool fights? What the weather doing outside? Did it snow? Did you make a snowman?” He let out a little excited gasp. “Or a snowtroll?! Do trolls make snowtrolls?”
Kanjigar laughed, eyes crinkling as warm amusement course through him. The boy had been rather shy at first but now, after several months of visits to Merlin’s cave, the young human had gotten quite comfortable with him.
“Perhaps if you quieted for a moment you might get some answers.”
The boy bit his lip and stared up at him with bright eyes. Kanjigar could feel him quivering. He chuckled again. Jim reminded him a lot of Draal when he was a youngling. So eager and excitable.
He shoved down the quiet pang in his core when a memory of Draal’s disappointed face from the last time they’d talked flickered through his mind. It was for the best, he reminded himself.
He set Jim down on one of the chairs and the boy immediately began pestering him with more questions.
“So what has Merlin been teaching you?” He asked when the boy finally stopped to catch his breath.
Jim frowned slightly and brushed his hair out of his eyes.
“He’s been teaching me about the … Gum-Gum Wars.”
Kanjigar frowned at that.
“That must be a scary. Those were dark times.”
Jim nodded, slightly.
“Merlin says it’s important.”
“I see.”
There was a moment of silence.
“So what have you been doing when you are not learning?” Now that he thought about it Kanjigar hadn’t seen any toys in the cave, on any of his visits, but they were likely kept in another room. The vigorous play of children did not mix well with delicate things like potions and scrolls.
Jim looked down and picked at his fingers.
“Not much,” He said with a shrug finally. “Merlin says I can use the training room, but all the swords are too big. I don’t get to go outside so sometimes I explore in the tunnel… It’s kind of creepy though. Merlin gave me an old scroll to draw on. I’m not supposed to draw on the other ones. He wasn’t happy when I did that. He says the new empty ones are for his research.”
Kanjigar frowned.
“Don’t you have any toys?”
Draal had been absolutely obsessed with magnets as a youngling. His minerals were of the type that magnets would stick to him, so he was often covered with them. It was a pity that cameras had not existed back then or Kanjigar would have collected some memorable and amusing pictures.
Jim shook his head.
“Merlin doesn’t think they’re important.”
Kanjigar’s frown deepened. He would need to talk to Merlin when the wizard returned.
“Would you like to hear about my journey to Argentina?” He asked.
Jim immediately brightened up and nodded.
~~
As it turned out Kanjgar’s talk with Merlin ended up getting put off for a couple days. Simply because the wizard had not returned.
“Does he do this often?” Kanjigar asked Jim carefully.
“Sometimes,” the boy said with a shrug.
His tongue stuck out slightly as he tried to pour the oats out of the sack into the bowl without spilling too much. The stool he was standing on teetered and Kanjigar quickly steadied him.
“Let me help you with that,” He said taking the bag.
~~~~
“We need to talk.”
The wizard frowned at those words and gave a brief glance at his Trollhunter before returning to the scroll he was writing on.
“I’m listening.”
Kanijagar decided to cut straight to the point. It was hard to say how long he would have his attention for.
“You cannot simply leave Jim on his own for days at a time,” He said, careful to make his voice firm but respectful.
“I don’t see why not,” The wizard responded without looking at him. “He’s a resourceful enough and hasn’t had any problems.”
“That’s not the point,” Kanjigar said nostrils flaring just slightly. He had the distinct feeling this was going to be like arguing with Blinky.
“Then what is?”
“Jim is a child; a mere youngling. He needs attention and time… and more than just books! He needs fresh air and play and toys.” Kanjigar grimaced slightly. “And a change of clothes.”
From what Kanjigar learned about humans if their cloths started smelling appetizing it meant they were too dirty for the human to be wearing. Humans needed to be somewhat clean or they risked sickness and parasites.
“I suppose he is due for a change of clothes,” Merlin responded finally. He paused and frowned before giving Kanjigar an affronted look. “He does actually have more than one, but he doesn’t know how to use the washing potion yet and I was gone longer than I expected. I shall look for another set on my next trip.”
“What about the other things?”
“What about them?”
Kanjigar took a slow breath.
“Are you going to do anything about them?”
Merlin huffed and shot him an annoyed look.
“Do I look like I know anything about children?” He said irritably. “When I was a child we amused ourselves on our own just fine.”
Kanjigar’s ears flicked back and he had to clench his teeth against the urge to snap at the wizard that he shouldn’t take on such a young apprentice if he wasn’t good with children. He looked away and took a slow breath.
“Perhaps you could take care of those things you mentioned.”
Kanjigar looked back sharply to find that the wizard was studying him.
“Me?”
“Sure. You are already a father. James always goes on and on about you after you leave each time. You are sure to do a better job than I will.”
Kanjigar opened his mouth to protest. It was one thing to indulge the child a little when he visited, it was another to take responsibility for his care and well-being. Kanjigar’s job was dangerous and historically Trollhunters tended to die early. If he got too close it would only hurt the boy more when his time inevitably came. He had already distanced himself from his own son for that very reason.
But then he closed it. He glanced around at the musty cave full of scrolls and dust and herbs and then at the prickly old wizard. He thought of how excited Jim was every time Kanjigar visited. Given how hard it was for Kanjigar himself to get much interaction out of Merlin, he had no doubt the child was very lonely.
The Trollhunter’s duty was to answer every call and Jim needed him.
Kanjigar sighed and rubbed at his browridge. What was he getting himself into?
“Very well,” He said. “I cannot live here but I will visit more often. I will bring the boy what toys and amusements that I can but you must at least try to be more involved with him. And please, tell me if you expect to be gone for more than a day. If something happens to him while he is alone, he could be badly hurt or worse.”
Merlin’s hummed and stroked his beard.
“I suppose you are right. I’ll see what I can do. In the meantime I’m off to get some venison. I grow weary of oatmeal.”
With that he walked out the door and was gone.
Kanjigar stared at the closed door and then back at the stone hallway that led to Jim’s room. His hand strayed to the Amulet hanging from its chain around his neck. He toyed with it apprehensively.
“Oh Deya, what am I doing?” He murmured to himself.
I taste just like ice cream, bitch I am so icy, heart cold like an ice queen, that's why they don't like me 🎵
-What the hell was that.
Traditionally I start Union updates with semi-relevant song lyrics.
-Why did you start an update at all.
Because it’s time, Shajar! I took a holy oath in my 2020 simming goals post to update Unions once a month, and I’m already a month late.
-But nothing interesting is happening.
That’s never stopped me before. Now listen to Rico Nasty, cry some more about Sophie blowing you off, and shut up.
-Ugh please, I couldn’t be more over Sonia if I tried. I hardly ever texted her links to wedding pinterest boards and quizzes to determine if our parenting styles are compatible.
Did she ever reply?
-She did once and said ‘who dis’. Of course the letters unscrambled spell out ‘do wish’, meaning she did wish me to keep messaging her. I just don’t know where it all went wrong.
Tumblr media
-Hey there, 17 year old girl, maybe you’ve had enough neat whiskey for the night? We’re actually running out of bottles.
-Beat it, ponytail, I need to dull my pain. I’ve just been stabbed right in the gut by the love of my life. Just like my style idol and general role model, space opera fascist Kylo Ren.
Shaj I really hate seeing you like this, and not just because the red neon light is super unflattering on your complexion.
-You can fuck right off too, I was perfectly happy with my dads who hate me and my imbecile sister and my brother who might as well not exist, noogie-ing people all day AND night long, but you had to be all ‘OMG IT’S SOPHIE MIGUEL SHAJAR GO TALK TO HER’. Life-ruining-moron.
But I was totally right about you two hitting it off, I mean look how sad you are now that she dumped- yea never mind, that’s not a good argument.
Tumblr media
-Look what I can do even though I’ve had 46 whiskeys!! How you like me now, Sophie???
-You’re paying for all these broken glasses, I’m going to need your name and a credit card.
-Yes, fair enough, my name is Cyneswith Union-
Tumblr media
-I LOOK GOOD ENOUGH TO EAT
Yea, you really should eat something to soak up all the alcohol. And not to kick you when you’re down, but you should also disregard all those cliches about ~a smile being the most beautiful thing you can wear~ because MAN. Watch out Joaquin, there’s a new Joker on the prowl.
Tumblr media
-So.. 20 lobsters thermidor and our most expensive appetizers?
-Aha.
-Would you mind settling your bill now?
-Of course not! My name is Cyneswith Union and this is the credit card my parents got me when I was 6 because we’re super duper best friends! I love my parents! They don’t care about their other daughter at all, even when their other daughter is going through a really hard time because she got the emotional equivalent of a lightsaber wound in the gut. You know what, let me also get 20 bottles of your most overpriced champagne to go with the lobsters.
Tumblr media
Feeling better?
-Well it’s hard to feel bad when you’re spending your parents’ money recklessly and with malice aforethought.
It sure is. Alright well, the sun is coming up, maybe we should head home.
-What’s the rush? What is going to happen if I don’t go home, my parents will get worried? LOL
God your life sucks. Ok let’s hit a couple more places.
Tumblr media
-Greetings. Welcome to our establishment. I am a human employee from this planet.
Great, nice to meet you.
-I just want there to be no doubt that I am indeed an earthling, born and raised under the earth’s exosphere and not above it.
Leave us alone.
Tumblr media
-And I’m the resident community lot sim with that one face template you hate! There must be one of us on every lot you visit!
Tumblr media
-And I am here in my revealing outfit to use the dance sphere and make everyone uncomfortable!
You’re actually pretty, I need to keep you in mind for after Don Oates takes a wrecking ball to our genetics, but yea, let’s bounce, Shajar.
Tumblr media
Time to visit the happiest place on earth, Deh'Javu Modern Art Museum, home to my favorite piece of art in any medium, The Toilet of Fire. Shove that Fountain up your ass, Duchamp. How we feeling, Shaj?
Tumblr media
-This trash can reminds of Sophie :( She used to go around town throwing money she stole from charities in trash cans and then send them riddles for where to find them :(
Enough with Sophie, we’ll find you someone better! Like..
Tumblr media
..your aunt! Get the hell out of here Brit Brit, you’re taking up townie space.
-I won’t be long, Gunther’s amazing close-up portrait of my hair was rejected by the museum so I’m here to set this shithole on fire.
In other words Gunther just painted a canvas black and called it a day?
-His art doesn’t cater to plebs. Yes, offense.
Tumblr media
Our old friend Ugly Teen Townie is here so finally we can have some fun. Shajar had gone almost 12 hours(!) without noogieing someone and I was starting to worry for her health.
-Yes, yes, I’m starting to feel like myself again..
Good for you, Shaj!
Tumblr media
-Hope you’ve made peace with your God, Ugly Teen Townie, this water balloon is filled with horse feces!
-WHERE DID YOU EVEN GET HORSE SHIT
-I ordered it from some guy named Leod McGreggor.
Tumblr media
-How about a another joke, MuRRAY?
-What?!
-Now you say, ‘no, I think we’ve had enough of your jokes’. Say it!
-No, I think we’ve had enough of your jokes.
-What do you get when you cross a mentally-ill loner with a society that abandons him and treats him like trash? Now you say ‘call the police, Gene!’
-Call the police, Gene!
-I'll tell you what you get..
Tumblr media
-YOU GET WHAT YOU FUCKING DESERVE. HAHA oh man! Good stuff.
Alright I’m starting to feel bad for Ugly Teen Townie, first he had to come to all the toddler birthday parties during the Victoria/Komei era and now this, he has suffered enough at this family’s hands. Time to go home, Shaj.
Tumblr media
-Not so fast!
Wow, the Countess and Mrs. Crumplebottom on the same lot, top 10 anime crossovers.
-I have been sent here by the Limp Dick Vamps United organization to recruit Shajar Union.
Ugh you people are still around? Haven’t heard of you losers since the Count wouldn’t let Victoria bang him, which I’m still annoyed about.
-Indeed we are, and it’s clear Shajar is ready to join us, dedicating her life to evil deeds without romantic distractions. I have no idea what Crumplebottom is doing here.
-I’m here to recruit Shajar to my own organization, Bitter Sims Worldwide Alliance. We’re always on the lookout for new members who want to spread their misery to their fellow Sim.
It sounds like it’d be more effective if you guys just merged your organizations.
-I will NEVER merge my organization with someone who displays her bosom like a common whore.
-Eat a dick, Crumplebottom!
-MAKE ME, FANGTOOTH
Tumblr media
-Alright here I am, what the fuck do you want?
-Shajar, it is a pleasure to meet you! Ardent admirer of your work.
-What work, freakshow?
-Torturing everyone around you, what else!
-What? I don’t torture people around me, if anything they torture me.
Tumblr media
-Why don’t you talk to me about it?
-I’d rather not, you look like a bejeweled snowman.
-Look deep into my eyes, Shajar..
Tumblr media
-And now look deep into my razor sharp teeth..
-Ugh fine, let’s talk.
Tumblr media
-Is that Victoria and Komei’s teen granddaughter hanging out with a vampire?
Yes it is Kennedy, keep it moving.
-God, wtf is wrong with this family.
Nothing now that you’ve been removed from our social circle, go away! Just kidding, you’re an icon and I’m marrying you in at some point.
-Hard pass.
Your loss, hombre.
-It definitely isn’t.
Tumblr media
-If I had known your turn on was vampires I would had set you two up!
STOP SETTING UP TEENS WITH ADULTS, LAKSHMI. And Shajar’s turn ons isn’t vampires, it’s fitness/fatness. Body positive queen.
-Well, Shajar, you alphabetically listing all the people who have wronged you while I was trying to kill Crumplebottom telepathically has made for a very productive conversation. We’ll be in touch.
-Thanks, Countess, it’s been real.
Shajar!!! Who cares about Sophie when you might bag a hot, rich vamp??
-Meh.
I’m gonna need you to be more excited about this prospect because a vampire spouse might just be enough of a draw to beat the comedic factor of fucking Don Oates turning us into an unintentional uglacy and I’m doing whatever I can to avoid my fate.
Heart’s Desire Pt. 1
Preface: SO I know i haven’t done a story in a while, and that is for good reason: Writers block mixed in with real world stuff. BUT i do have something super nice and sweet to make up for it. This story is a bit of fluff, so I am rather proud of it. There will be a part 2 and I do eventually plan on combining the two into a master post (possibly with other stories) once I have a cover photo for it.
The original format is here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1_3tZlLjHtBtT7uk4maoZFMDtcCL96j7XZW3woMockNY/edit?usp=sharing
However i will also be formatting the story to tumblr as a bunch of you have expressed how you’re not able to view google docs links on your phone.
Story under the cut
The streets of London buzzed with traffic in the afternoon rush. Hundreds of Muggles going too and fro, rushing around in their cars as they race to work and home alike. Merula sighed wistfully, watching the Muggles drive around in their cars while she was still stuck at home. Despite everything, she did come here of her own free will, and she did have plenty of things to do while her girlfriend was out working. Even after living in the Muggle world for nearly six years, Merula still marveled at how quickly Muggles advanced their technology; Especially when she considered how far cars in particular had advanced.
           A timer dinged from the kitchen, signifying that dinner was done cooking. Merula shifted Eleanor, Lilian’s black cat, from her lap as she moved to take the chicken out before it became too dry. A quick flick of her Pinewood wand sent the knife into a chopping the vegetables left on the cutting board earlier as she took out a skillet. A special recipe her mother had taught her before being locked up in Azkaban, one of the few good things that she remembered from her family. Once the knife had performed its duties, it quietly sat by the cutting board as Merula slid its contents into the oil and rosemary mix she had in the skillet.
Halfway through frying the potatoes and asparagus, Merula heard the front door open and the sound of loud barking coming from the entryway. She smirked to herself, knowing Rook’s excitable nature and how no one could get past him when he was on watch.
“Okay, okay! Bon garçon Rook. Good Boy.” The silver haired woman grinned as she took off her coat and hat, revealing a doll like arm and a pair of wireframe glasses over Amethyst eyes. Merula walked into the entryway, leaning against the door jam just to smirk at her girlfriend: Lilian Le’Reau.
                              “You’re late, you know.”
Lilian moved up to Merula with a smile on her face, as she leaned down to softly kiss her girlfriend. The two stood there for a moment in each others embrace, taking just a little extra longer to hold each other. “Pardonne moi, mon amour. The office was a little backed up today. Apparently attempting to convert mechanical energy into magical is something the engineering department advised the wizengamot against.” Lilian looked down to Merula and gave a defeated smile. “It looks like I’ll need to pull a bit more overtime over the week.”
Merula sighed and held Lilian closer. “All this overtime. I’m starting to think that you don’t like me, Le’Reau.” Lilian quickly sputtered as a slight blush came to her face. “NO! No its… There’s only one person I could love. This extra overtime is simply to make sure I have the entire week of christmas to spend with you.”
Merula smiled before letting go. She was concerned for her girlfriend and all the overtime she was pulling. That couldn’t be healthy for Lilian, especially with all the added stress of being one of the wizarding world’s best prosthetic makers. Even though they had been dating for nearly Ten years, it was still unusual for Merula to admit she was concerned for someone other than herself. “Don’t worry. I’ll be fine.”
Merula looked up to Lilian with a small smile before putting up a mask of Bravado. “You had better be! You’re the one who dragged me out here to Muggle-Land so you should at least make sure to have time for me. Now come on dinner’s almost done, Lil. Make sure Rook and Eleanor have their food before we eat. We don’t need them begging for food at the table.”
Once dinner was done, Lilian cuddled with Merula on the couch while they watched old christmas specials. Merula was still unsure of ‘television’ but like many other muggle items, it hadn’t been anything scary or lethal. During one such program, ‘Frosty the Snowman’ as the movie was called, the phone rang from the kitchen. “I’ll get it” Lilian said almost a little too quickly. Lilian returned with a big grin on her face. “Anything good happen, Lil?”
Lilian smiled. “A surprise for in a couple of days, Merula.” With that, Merula wouldn’t be able to get anymore information on the matter.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A week later, Merula and Lilian had gone to Lilian’s parents' home for a pre-christmas dinner, as her parents had planned on going on a vacation over christmas and new years. Merula sat on the couch, waiting for Lilian to get off work again as she talked with Lilian’s mother while they waited for everyone to get home.
     “I never thought to ask, but how did you meet Lilian’s Father?”
Celia smiled. “Oh that is rather amusing. I was on my way to the workshop I was supposed to start at when I see this curious man on the side of the road. His car was obviously dead on the road but the state of it was frightening. How he had managed to make it work in the first place is still a mystery to me.” Merula smiled as she listened about how Samuel had been stranded while trying to go to University. It was rather nice, knowing that she and Lilian weren’t so different after all. Love happening in the strangest of ways was apart of the experience.
        “After about a year or so, He finally proposed. He almost dropped the ring down the storm drain, but he’s always been nimble.” Celia finished. Merula couldn’t help but giggle a little bit at that. That sounds like something that Lilian would end up doing if she ever proposed. Just as she was thinking that, the door started to open, admitting Daniel and Lilian, as well as Abby and Rorick McKinley.
“Hey lot!” Abby shouted with a grin before hugging Celia warmly. “How ya holdin, Auntie Celia?”
Lilian silently sat beside Merula and gave a kiss on her cheek before unwinding her scarf. The family sat around, regaling each other with stories from throughout the year as dinner drew closer. Merula helped Celia place for the table when she noticed Abby and Lilian talking in the Living room. She finished and snuck over to try and catch a snippet of the conversation.
           “-an yer sure of this. It’s a mighty big risk, even for you, Lil.”
“Oui. I am sure. And I know that… I’m sure.” Lilian said with a smile.
Meula frowned. What were those two talking about? Was it related to Lilian’s unusual amount of overtime at the Ministry? She couldn’t help but wonder what all was going on and why all the secrecy was necessary.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Merula woke up to the sound of her alarm going off. She looked up to see Lilian’s side of the bed empty. She frowned, turning to the calendar on the back of their bedroom door.
           Only three days till christmas and still Lilian had been very secretive as to why she needed to work so much overtime. Merula couldn’t help but sigh despondently as she walked down to the kitchen. Her surprise was evident when she sniffed the air as she turned to see Lilian at the stove with her pajama pants and a loose t-shirt on as she cooked breakfast. And from the smell of it, it was Merula’s favorite. Cinnamon Oats with Bacon and Sunny side eggs.
“Bonjour, Belle. I figured that you’d enjoy something to eat. It is my week off.”
Merula’s eyes went wide at that statement. A whole week of Lilian to herself? That was probably one of the best christmas gifts she could get. “Well it’s about time, Le’Reau. Especially with all of the overtime you’ve been working.” The two ate breakfast, Merula trying to hide how much she loved Lilian’s cooking even if it was just eggs and oats. Maybe it was the fact that Lilian made them? Merula didn’t know, she just loved it. She actually once thought Lilian had somehow snuck love potion into her food just to get Merula to enjoy it, though it eventually ended when the two baked some cakes together. She thought of that with a laugh as the two went about cleaning dishes together. “What’s so funny Charmante?”
Merula smiled and shook her head. “Just remembering how much of a goof you are. Like that time with the cakes.”
“If I recall correctly, you were the one who dared me to send a golem with a cake to Mrs. Wilkinson across the way. You’re lucky we were still in the wizarding world back then or we would have been in some trouble.” Lilian replied with a smirk on her face now. The two giggled at their dumb ideas and fond times before going back to washing the dishes.
Once they were done, Lilian began to put everything away when she began to speak.
“So I was thinking… what if I had reservations to that new restaurant in Diagon Alley on christmas? Would you like to go?”
Merula looked up from her seat, curious and slightly confused. “What you mean like a date night? On christmas? What place is open on christmas, let alone for dinner?”
Lilian smiled, causing Merula to squint suspiciously. “Well I did say that it was a new restaurant. It’s a fancy kitchen that’s open every day of the year, but only at night. Everyone says that it’s run by vampires, but I think those are just rumors.”
Merula smiled and nodded. “Well, so long as it’s with you, I’d love to. So when are you going to get the reservations?”
Lilian grinned sheepishly. “Well, I made reservations a year ago. The waiting line is that long. But I hear their food is amazing.”
Merula sighed and shook her head. “You know, for being such a beautifully smart woman, you really are dense. Something this important, and no doubt expensive, should be planned out and everything. What if I was making dinner or we were going over to someone's house. You’d have made those reservations for nothing.”
Lilian smiled. “I mean, we don’t pay until we’ve eaten, so there’s no harm in missing the time.”
Merula sighed and kissed Lilian on the cheek. “Still, I’d rather you not have to miss those kinds of things.”
After several chores, the two sat on the couch for the rest of the day enjoying each others company. Merula was watching TV while Lilian was casually reading. The rest of the day was spent between the two silently enjoying each others company and occasionally laying atop each other.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Merula stood in front of the mirror as she put in the two emerald ear studs in. The tiny gems glittered to compliment her simple black dress with green trim. Merula took a step back to look in the mirror, admiring her dress. Even though she had bought this dress back when she and Lilian had started dating, it hadn’t faded or lost any of it’s magnificence as the long dress stopped at her ankle; the straps crossing around her neck leaving her shoulder blades and shoulders exposed.
“You look stunning.” Lilian said as she wrapped her arms around Merula’s waist.
Merula’s face screwed into an expression of joy and embarrassment mixed into one. She still couldn’t get over how Lilian always so easily made her flush and hot under the collar.
“Well I would hope so. I bought this dress because it complimented my figure and looked amazing on me. Anyway… You look nice as well.”
Lilian smiled. She was wearing the dress Merula had bought her after their first date. A simple Navy Blue dress stopping above her knee with long sleeves covering her arms. Lilian touched her forehead to Merula’s, closing her eyes as they stayed like that for the next couple of minutes. “I’m really lucky to have you, Merula. I hope you know this.” Merula couldn’t help but feel her heart skip a beat at that statement. “Well obviously, Le’Reau. Who wouldn’t be changed by dating me? And besides, It’s not like I had eyes for anyone else. You’re the only goofy nerd for me.”
The two stepped back and looked into each others eyes, smiling before Merula kissed Lilian softly on the lips. “Now I believe we need to go or we’ll be late for our reservations, Le’Reau.”
Lilian smiled as she took Merula’s hand. “Don’t worry. I know a few shortcuts.” Soon they were out, driving in the car through the countryside, skipping past the city and it’s traffic to get to the restaurant on the other side of London. Merula looked out to see the stars twinkling alongside the city’s lights, a wonderful blend of warm and cool lights intertwined in a dance of colors. Merula smiled as the lights twinkled over the fresh dusting of snow over the grass, reminding her of her time at Hogwarts. The car ride went on for about thirty minutes, with only a few cars passing by on the road. It was rather peaceful, especially with the christmas bustle nearly settled.
Soon the two pulled up to the restaurant, Lilian opening Merula’s door before handing the keys to the valet. “Shall we?”
“You truly are a flirt, Le’Reau.” Merula said with a confident smirk as the two walked inside to be seated. Merula was enjoying everything about the evening, how cozy and intimate the venue was and how Lilian had set everything up. The snow, the lights, everything… It was amazing.
The two left the Restaurant, walking over to the park nearby. Merula tugged her coat close as Lilian walked beside her hand in hand.
Merula couldn’t help but notice Lilian was slightly squeezing her hand. They neared the lake and stopped, watching the lights dance on the waves of the water. The spot that they had first kissed. “It’s just how I remembered it.” Merula said, her tone wistful and reminiscent.
“Yeah, it is.”
Lilian turned to Merula, letting go of her hand. “I was hoping to say something that’s been on my mind…” Merula turned to Lilian, her heart catching in her chest. What was Lilian talking about? Was this the reason she’s been out for so long? Merula’s heart began racing as she watched her girlfriends every move. “We’ve been together for nearly five years, and I’ve had feelings for since we went to Hogwarts… You’ve seen my every low, every mistake and crisis… You helped me when I lost my arm, never left my side. Through everything we’ve seen and been through, I wouldn’t want any other partner” Lilian said, looking down to her left hand with a wistful smile. Merula watched as Lilian twisted her prosthetic hand off before continuing. “You’re strong, beautiful and resourceful. A star guiding my steps every part of the way. I wouldn’t want to… I couldn’t love any other woman in this world or any other. Merula Snyde-”
Lilian reached into her arm, pulling out a small black box. Lilian opened it, revealing an elegant yet simple ring with an Emerald in the intertwined bands of platinum, curled over the gem in an elegant setting.
                                               “Will you Marry Me?”
Merula stared at Lilian, listening to her talk and pour her heart out for her. Merula hadn’t realized that she’d been holding her breath until this moment. She stared at her girlfriend, nearly dumbstruck as the snow lazily fluttered to the ground. Her face felt hot as something ran down her cheeks. She smiled, her tears curving down her face as she went to hug Lilian.
The two knelt there, laughing and crying together. “Yes! Yes Yes a million times Yes you oblivious Ravenclaw! Of course I’ll be your wife!” Merula finally said as she held her fiance. Lilian couldn’t contain her joy and soon broke down into tears as well as the two held the hug. The two soon went back to their car, a new ring around Merula’s finger and a grin on her face. “So I’m going to assume this is why you’ve been working so much overtime. This ring had to have cost-” “An arm and a leg?” Lilian said with a cheerful grin. “Ugh you are the worst Le’Reau…” Lilian kissed Merula softly in front of their car. “Whatever you say, Ms. Le’Reau.” Merula’s heart skipped at that. Ms. Merula Snyde Le’Reau… This was definitely the best day of her life.
Merula smiled before getting into the car with her fiance. The future was ahead for the both of them and, for better or worse, they’d face it together.

Virginia - December 2020
In the months leading up to November 2020, I had debated attending graduate school in the state of Wisconsin or Virginia. When it came down to the cost, it was the best decision to stay as an in-state resident for graduate school. I was accepted by George Williams College to start pursuing my Masters in Social Work in January 2021. With no clarity into my next opportunity for a trip out to Virginia I decided to go before starting school in the new year.
Saturday, December 5th
I woke up early and headed to Milwaukee for my flight to visit Jenna & Bradley in Virginia. I landed around 10AM. Bradley picked me up and had planned our first stop at a coffee shop, Cafe Amouri (https://www.caffeamouri.com/) in Vienna, Virginia. Bradley ordered the Pumpkin Spice Latte and I ordered the Gingerbread Latte, both were incredible options. I would make sure to stop at this location again when in the area. I felt they did a great job managing ordering and contactless pickup during the COVID pandemic. Bradley and I caught up while Jenna completed her sleep after an overnight shift. When Jenna awoke we headed out for lunch and a full day ahead.
Tumblr media
I have a soft spot for Bartaco (https://bartaco.com/location/reston/) since it was one of my highlight restaurants the first time I came out to Virginia. If you know me well you know I am in a constant state of craving mexican food and elote corn. We ordered Guac, Street Corn and a variety of tacos. I decided I am not a fan of the Crispy Oyster Taco that Bradley is fond of, but I am down for the Glazed Pork Belly Taco any day!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jenna drove us to Amphora Bakery (https://amphorabakery.com/) where we were able to see the treat artists at work in the back room. Bradley picked up some delicious decorative sugar cookies and I selected a magic bar. I decided that in the future the sugar cookies are most definitely the best way to go!
Tumblr media
In an attempt to stay local for the early afternoon we stopped for a wine flight at Fleetwood Farm Winery (https://fleetwoodfarmwinery.com/). Bradley and I enjoyed the variety as many of them were dry. Jenna passed up on several as she prefers the sweeter side of wine. Several other guest were ordering the pizza to pair with their wine, so that may be a good try for a future visit.
Tumblr media
As a tradition I requested that we snag up a treat from Mama's Apple Pie (https://www.momsapplepieco.com/)  in Leesburg, Virginia. I selected the Boston Cream which was good but nothing can compare the outstanding fruit pie varieties that are offered at each of their locations.
Tumblr media
Next we headed farther from home to Bluemont Winery (https://www.bluemontvineyard.com/) as Bradley had seen online they had a field of Christmas lights after sunset. Upon our arrival we found the venue overpacked for our comfort during the pandemic and it was cold enough we weren’t fond of sitting outside without heaters. We picked ourselves up and headed across the street to Henway Hard Cider (https://greatcountryfarms.com/henway-hard-cider/), a new location since I last visited. Upon arrival we witnessed a snowman on an island in their man made pond, as we neared the entry to the building we were able to chat with the chickens they house there. During our visit we enjoyed some cider, sliders and a cookie tray. It was an open building and great to check out for the first time. As the sun began to set we headed back over to Bluemont Vineyard where they had Christmas lights strung throughout the vines. It was stunning as we took the view from the bottom, driving on the curvy road to the top and got to look down on them as they spread over the hillside. Bradley made a great call in recommending we go out to see them. We had so much fun taking photos and videos, laughing at ourselves the entire time. Before heading out of town we stopped at Bluemont General Store (http://www.bluemontstore.com/) in which we were able to pick up some true molasses for our gingerbread cookies to come. We arrived home exhausted after a long day of travel and adventure, and went straight to bed.

Sunday, December 6th
Sunday was a monumental day, as Jenna woke up and cooked me breakfast all before 10. It consisted of Trader Joe’s hash browns, JUST eggs, Kite Hill chive dip and Wegmans Sausage. If any of you want a killer breakfast this is all the ingredients that you need!
Tumblr media
Our next stop of the day was the local farmer’s market, as ya know you’re girl cannot pass up a morning farmers market. We picked up Twin Oats (https://twinoats.com/) oat bites sampler pack. I do have to say my all-time favorite is the White Chocolate Cinnamon Roll, but the Vanilla is good too. Can I say that the owner of this sweet shop is so kind as well. Jenna was a familiar face but without hesitation she welcomed me in sharing all that she had to offer. If you have a local farmers market I encourage you to go, spend your money here, and socialize with others in your community. Let’s connect together as humans!
Tumblr media
We scooped up Bradley from home and headed to Eugene’s Sausage & Fries (https://eatateugenes.com/). I cannot rave enough about how accommodating the staff was with a dairy free, gluten free and egg free diet. Each member of the team was professional and took the allergens seriously. Please understand that a majority of locations we encountered throughout our trip did not take the time to double check their ingredients or consult with the chef to ensure that the allergens were not present within the food. I could write a stellar review about Eugene’s day after day for the great service they provided us during our visit. Our order consisted of Truffle Fries, El Diablo Sausage, Elote Fries, Southern Dog and my pitiful lamb blueberry infused sausage. I would highly recommend ordering the Truffle Fries at every visit with the parmesan on the side and the el diablo sausage. I would pass on the lamb sausage which is no longer listed on the menu, likely for good reason.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Our following location was Aroma Wine Tasting Room (https://moraisvineyards.com/aroma-wine-tasting/) where we obtained flight trees and Jenna was in heaven with the opportunity to fill hers with almost all dessert wines. It was a quaint location with incredible staff, we spent much of the afternoon sipping our wine away. I must add too that the women’s restroom at this location is huge allowing you the opportunity to run in circles, which as expected Jenna could not pass up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cookies & Cream Ice Cream (https://www.cookiesandcreamshop.com/) was a phenomenal follow up location of choice for those of you who eat dairy, I would recommend passing on the sorbet. I ordered the Campfire S’mores ice cream and I can tell you it is worth the drive out to Haymarket! I would order it again and again for the rest of my days if I could.
Tumblr media
Bradley had other adventures to attend to, so Jenna and I went rogue for the rest of the evening. Starting out at Gray Ghost Winery (https://grayghostvineyards.com/) we completed a wine tasting at the counter allowing us the opportunity to hear the history of the grounds and story behind the name. We ended our visit by touring the wine cork gallery that has been set up for the holiday season. Jenna ended up purchasing a bottle of dessert wine and I took a sweet white home for us to share with our mother over the holiday season.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Virginia there is this small little building that was placed on earth by God, called the Cheesecake Heaven Drive Thru (https://www.facebook.com/WarrentonCheesecake/) and by God is it good. I had the Original Cheesecake which was outstanding! I promise you, you won’t go wrong by picking out any one of these options. I truly suggest that you pick more than one, if you’re having a hard time deciding just be assured that the Lord only wants what is best for you and that may mean you have to pick out all your favorites.
YOU GUYS! I can not help but crack up each time I think of our experience at Bull Run Winery (https://www.wineryatbullrun.com/). As Jenna and I were walking in from the parking lot I was on the phone with our father. Jenna hops up the smallest curb and next thing I know she is on the ground, pauses a second on her back, rolls managing to get herself up in one swift motion all while picking up the contents that dumped out of her jacket pockets onto the concrete. Jenna starts halling ass up this huge hill to the entrance. I am laughing so hard I can’t speak to inform my concerned father of what occurred while at the same time I am out of breath trying to keep up with her. It is one of my favorite Jenna moments, and to this day I can’t help but laugh when the memory of this event crosses my mind. At the top of the hill as I confronted Jenna on the events that just occurred she acted as if no fall had occurred. Once I calmed my laughter we walked further into the ground of Bull Run to find a tent with heaters to drink under, a wine bar and outdoor live music. Jenna and I each grabbed a glass, found a location near a heater and it was then Jenna admitted to her fall for the first time. Jenna and I chatted and sipped on our wines while we listened to the horrific singing coming from the stage beside us.
We stopped at the Dolce Amore Peruvian Bakery (http://www.dolceamoresweets.com/) before picking up dinner and heading home. We ordered the Tres Leches, Mini Alfajor Box and a Caramel Horn. If you enjoy caramel and shortbread cookies the Mini Alfajor Box is a must have item. The employees were sweet in providing the correct pronunciation of the items after I asked for assistance. I would recommend making a stop here if you’re local.
Tumblr media
Jenna and I picked up Ford’s Fish Shack (https://fordsfishshack.com/locations/ashburn/) to-go before heading home to eat dinner with Bradley. I had requested crab legs before my visit to town so Jenna ensured they were on our order. Bradley and I both enjoyed Connecticut Style Lobster Rolls and fries while Jenna tried out the scallops. I have a sick obsession with their skinny fries at all Ford’s locations, which topped off my entire day. After we filled our stomachs and caught up on our daily adventure, we headed off to bed for another fun-filled day.
Tumblr media
Monday, December 7th
Our morning started off at Petite Loulou Creperie (https://www.lapetiteloulou.com/) in Purcellville, Virginia. Jenna ordered a Sugar Plum Mimosa with her Local Honey and Almond Crepe. Bradley ordered an oat milk latte with his Chicken Cordon Bleu Crêpe. I completed my order with the Prosciutto, Goat Cheese, & Fig Jam Crepe. If you know me any item with prosciutto, goat cheese and/or balsamic glaze is a must order item.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Our next spot on the way home was a coffee shop called Dolce & Ciabatta (https://dolceciabatta.com/) where I ordered my morning coffee and an eclair that I would come to love for the rest of eternity.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jenna and I headed out in the afternoon to SideBar (https://www.sidebarlbg.com/eats) in Leesburg  to test out their happy hours for our first time. We spent hours this afternoon eating, drinking and chatting away. I have to say this is a memory that I will treasure, it was so good to visit with my sister one on one as grown adult women, an opportunity I don’t believe we truly ever had before. Jenna and I enjoyed the General Tso’s Cauliflower, Maple Sriracha Wings, SideBar Fries and Calamari. If you haven’t been to SideBar Happy Hour you’re truly missing out! GO NOW!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After our afternoon dining experience I forced Jenna to take me to all the local TJ Maxx locations. We explored around hitting up Nothing Bundt Cakes (https://www.nothingbundtcakes.com/) before heading home. I ordered the White Chocolate Raspberry, my all time favorite.
Prior to my arrival Bradley had planned several activities for us to enjoy in the evening one of which was building gingerbread houses and activities I had never participated in before. We had such a great time sitting around the coffee table as a family decorating our houses throughout the rest of night. I strove to one up them by adding a stained glass window in my house by using my phone’s flashlight and a half eaten gumdrop. Can you tell I am still impressed with my artistic abilities?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tuesday, December 8th
Again I forced Jenna to rise from her slumber and make me the very requested repeat breakfast from a few days prior. I am telling you, it is good! We headed out shortly thereafter for a wine tasting at Cooper’s Hawk (https://chwinery.com/). I enjoyed this opportunity as I had heard Jenna and Bradley rave about the wine and educational experience since moving out to Virginia.
As we were still full from breakfast we headed out to Mt. Defiance Cidery & Distillery (https://mtdefiance.com/). We were given the opportunity to order glasses of wine, due to the pandemic flights being unavailable. The cider pours were generous and tasted great. Bradley had a good cracking up session by himself at our table for still an unknown reason. We chatted here for sometime in this beautiful building before heading out. I did purchase a bottle of the Blueberry Cider and Jenna picked up some local mustard and jams they had for sale. We popped in and out of shops in Gainesville before heading to dinner.
Tumblr media
After much debate we enjoyed our dinner at Out of the Blue (https://www.outoftheblue.restaurant/). We enjoyed our shared order of calamari and shrimp. Bradley enjoyed his oysters. I was not a fan of the lobster roll bringing me to the realization I only appreciate a lobster roll if it is Connecticut style. Jenna ate scallops that we subpar for the pricing. We hit up another TJ Maxx on our way back toward home. After a dissatisfied dinner we snug a late night treat in at SideBar ordering some calamari that we shared together in the local parking garage. It was a simple but memorable experience together. I ordered some maple sriracha wings to dive into late at night since I was heading out of town the next day.

Upon our arrival home Bradley got to work on the gingerbread cookies. As a family we spent the rest of the evening around the coffee table decorating and watching Christmas movies.

Wednesday, December 9th
Once we rolled out of bed in the morning we enjoyed a simple breakfast with coffee at home. Around the noon hour Jenna made me homemade gluten free breaded pickles which were incredible. I ordered Pho-Nomenal (https://www.phonomenalashburn.com/menus) for lunch to arrive at the house. I ordered several types of Summer Rolls which came with an outstanding peanut sauce. We also ordered 4 Sisters Asian Snack Bar (https://www.foursisterssnackbar.com/) boba drinks as a last treat before I packed up my belongings and headed to the airport.

In the evening I landed safely back home in Chicago where I was greeted by my parents. Thank you Virginia for another amazing stay. I look forward to spending time outside at the wineries during a summer visit in the future.

Drabble for Shattered-Catalyst
So this basically turned into 2.5k fic. It gets pretty sad halfway through but I hope you enjoy reading. @shattered-catalyst
November 24, 2017. Finally! It was socially acceptable to proudly display Christmas decorations. Not that Alison Blaire had let that stop her. There were already fairy lights hanging around every window and doorway. And little more than halfway through November Christmas themed knickknacks had begun appearing around the house. A little snowman here. A little reindeer there. The usual throw blankets and pillows were steadily exchanged for gold and blue. The red and green didn't break out until, today.
Early that Friday morning Alison was up, rummaging through the boxes of decorations she had stashed away in her attic. They were a bitch to get down, just as the Halloween decorations had been, but it was worth it. If Cat had thought she had a bunch of those Halloween decorations he wasn't going to be prepared for what was to come. The blonde had only brought down one tub of décor when the dark haired teen emerged from his room, alert and concerned.
“Alison? What is going on?” He regarded her with a perplexed expression as she maneuvered back up the precarious steps for another tub.
“Tis the season, Kitten!” She replied joyfully. Descending the stairs she sparkled more radiantly than usual. Her smile was like it's own form of sunshine.
“The season? I was not aware it had changed from autumn. Does winter not begin on the solstice of December?” Alison had been teaching him about the solstices and their meanings along with his education about astrology. It was important information.
“That's true, Kitten. But I meant the season of Christmas!” Honestly she should have been paid as one of Santa's elves for how into the holiday she was.
With a confused frown Catalyst hesitated for only a moment as he calculated the days between now and Christmas, “But Alison, Christmas is 31 days away.”
“True. But we have a bunch of decorations to put up. Best to get a head start now. Plus,” she opens one of the tubs and pulls out a Santa hat,“It's my favorite holiday and I like celebrating it as much as possible.” As if she hadn't let on that fact in the months leading up to this day. She secured the hat over her strawberry blonde locks. “Can you help me with the rest of the boxes, KitCat?” Her excitement was infectious and the youngster felt his lips turn up in one of his larger smiles as he assisted her with the remaining boxes. He had been looking forward to Christmas with as much as Alison talked about it, but he hadn't expected the preamble to start immediately after Thanksgiving.
Thirty minutes and all the decoration containers were on the living room floor. Cat cooked them up some delicious omelets while Alison sorted through the carefully labeled boxes, arranging them in lines and stacks to make going through them easier. They ate then it was straight into Extreme Makeover: Christmas Condo Edition. Usually the songstress had set places for everything, unlike Halloween, but this year was different. She requested Catalyst's input on everything. This was his home now too.
In the afternoon they took a break for lunch which included stretching their legs with a walk around the block. The first snow had fallen the week prior, with little dustings every couple days since. It kept the streets and sidewalks from looking too dirty and disgusting as they were prone too with so much traffic. Their casual stroll turned into an adventure as they headed over to Central Park. Surprisingly there were people out and about. As her eyes caught sight of Wollmans Skating Rink she realized her grave oversight on her part as a guardian.
“Kitten? Have you ever been iceskating?”
The teenager followed Alison's gaze, surveying the people gliding around on the ice. “No.”
Ali's head turned to regard him with a beaming smile, “We're going to fix that immediately. Come on.” She held her hand out to him, giving him the choice to take it or not. As his hand settled in her own Alison gripped it soundly, leading him over to the rink.
Helping him find the proper size skates reminded her of their first outing, shoe shopping. It was only a few months ago but it felt like so much longer. Their bond had grown so strong Ali found it hard to imagine a time without Catalyst in her life. He had become one of her muses. Reinvigorating her zest for creating new music. Driving her reconnection with Shatterstar more quickly than it may have otherwise. The desire to be another link between them, an encouraging connection to ease their own bonding.
One handsome tip for the attendant then skates laced up on both their feet Alison took Cat's hands, stepping backwards onto the ice to steady him as he descended that first step to the ice. “It may take some time to get your balance, don't hesitate to lean on me, I'm here to keep you steady.” Her azure gaze never left his face as minor looked down at his wobbling legs.
“Don't look down at your feet, just focus on me and where you want to go.” Catalyst's eyes snapped up to meet Ali's smiling face. The blonde skated backwards for a while, drawing Cat along with her as she snaked them around the ice. Her eyes never left his, unworried about bumping into the few people skating around them.
Within a few moments the Mojoworlder had garnered his balance so Alison decided to progress with the little training, “Ok, I'm going to release one of your arms so we can skate side by side.” Silently the boy nodded in understanding. She let go of his arm, gracefully turning until they were side by side. “Think you're up for gliding? Lift your legs like you're marching and then push your feet out a little behind you.” She mirrored the movements as she described, firm grip still on his hand as he copied her. In only a few minutes he was gliding along beside her like a pro, she lessened her grip but he didn't pull away.
It must have been an hour at least that they stayed before returning their skates to head back home. Passing by a space between two buildings Catalyst stopped abruptly. “What's the matter KitCat?”
“There's something there.” His gaze was trained on the alley intently but all Alison noticed was the overfull dumpster beneath the fire escape. Whatever had caught his attention Ali knew he'd want to investigate further, so she stepped into the opening before him. If that “something” turned out to be dangerous she wanted to be between it and him. The way horrible things were drawn to this city it was almost more plausible than something harmless. He followed close on her heels, attempting to get in front of her but Alison kept abreast with him.
Further in and Alison still didn't catch sight of anything. Her senses on alert she did begin to pick up on a faint sound. Then a wheezing. She stopped in front of some trash bags piled beside the dumpster. Catalyst dropped to a crouch, inching closer. “Cat be careful.” The words were barely out of her mouth when he began to move back one of the large bags, revealing a little space where a stray dog had wedged himself from an opening on the other side of the heap. Skinny would have been an understatement for the poor creatures condition, he appeared almost skin and bone. “Fuck.” Was all Alison could manage.
Cat reached a hand out to touch the top of it's head and even though it seemed on it's last legs the stray pushed against his hand. Alison could hear his tail begin to thump weakly against the snow covered concrete. Hand still on the dog's head Catalyst looked up at her with earnest eyes. “Alison, we must help him.”
“Sweetie, I don't know if we can.” The vet offices were no doubt still closed and she had no idea if there was any kind of emergency animal clinic around.
“We must try.” Cat looked back down at the poor thing as it tried to lick his hand, whimpering lightly. With his free hand Catalyst reached into his pocket for one of the snacks he kept on him at all times. A behavior left over from all the years of never knowing where his next meal would come from. He pulled his hand from the dog for just long enough to unwrapped the honey oat granola bar. As soon as it was in reach the dog perked up it's head just enough to devour it eagerly. While it finished up the second bar in the packet Cat stood and removed the heavy bags of trash constituting a roof for the dog's refuge to prevent them from collapsing as he moved the “walls” away. He began to remove his coat, intending to wrap around the poor thing and pick him up when Alison stopped him.
“Hold on.” She started shrugging out of her thicker white faux fur coat.
“Alison no. You'll get cold,” the teen protested firmly.
“Mine will be warmer for him. And home isn't too far away.” She knelt down before he could protest further, wrapping the emaciated animal in the fur. The coat was ruined but it was a small price to pay if it'd help the dog stay comfortable. Her arms scooped beneath the furry bundle, picking it up and hoping the way she held him wasn't too uncomfortable for his fragile body. Alison might look frail but she was surprisingly strong, perhaps some kind of additive from her mutant DNA. The dog's light body weight only aided her ability to carry him.
They made their way back home as quickly as they could while still being careful of the slippery ice. The doorman didn't question them at all as they blew past without Alison's usual stop and chat. Rising up floor by floor in the elevator seemed to go on forever. As soon as the doors opened Catalyst bolted down the hall, opening the door with his spare key. He grabbed blankets and pillows from his bed, arranging them in a little nest beside his bed. “Alison! In here,” he shouted just as Ali breached the threshold. Not even bothering to close the door she carried the dog into Cat's room, gently lowering him onto the pallet, and unwrapping him from her coat.
She was scared to look at him, fearing that he may have passed on their trip here. Luckily, he was still with them, his tail wagging weakly still, as Catalyst reached out to softly stroke his head. Wordlessly Alison headed to the kitchen. Grabbing a bowl from the cabinets she filled it with water and returned, holding it close to the dog who lapped at it vigorously. When he began to cough she pulled it back instantly, fear spiking her adrenaline. He recovered quickly enough, his wide head stretching forward, seeking more. “Drink more slowly this time,” Alison soothed as if he would understand. When he'd had his fill his head lay against one of the pillows, eyes drifting closed, chest still rising slowly as he slept.
This turn of events had the songstress shaken. Her confidence would have been stronger combating some eldritch beast form another dimension. Falling back on her haunches she let out a trembling breath. Her hands ran up her face into her hair where they stayed as she gazed down at the sleeping dog. She didn't know the first thing about taking care of any animal. Let alone one that was so close to death's door.
Catalyst was silent. Still stroking the animals thinned fur tenderly. It scared Alison even more seeing him like this but spurred a drive to do all she could to help this dog make it. Pulling out her cell from her coat pocket Ali turned to google. First she looked up the nearest emergency vet clinic. It was a bit of a drive by taxi but apparently they were open today. Standing, she walked out into the living room to give them a call. Though he looked so horrible it was a good sign that he had eagerly gobbled the food and water. Moving him again so soon might do more harm than good. They advised her to keep him comfortable for now. Monitor him closely, don't let him have too much water and try to give him half a can of wet dog food in about thirty minutes then another half six hours after that, repeat. She wasn't sure where she'd get her hands on that so soon but she agreed. If he was doing well come more she was to bring him in.
Hanging up Alison felt a bit better but still worried if he'd make it through the night. She walked back into Catalyst's room. “Hey Kitten?” His gaze reluctantly lifted to her. “I just talked with the vets for some advice. We need to feed him every six hours and if he makes it through the night we're going to take him to the vet so they can take care of him better. Okay?” He nodded solemnly, looking back at the dog and it broke her heart. “We'll need to feed him actual dog food. I called the corner store down the street and they have some. Would you mind running out to pick some up? I'll stay with him while you do.” She walked closer and sat down, stroking the dog's head. Surprisingly Cat didn't protest. He stood, looking determined now. After handing him her card he booked it out of the condo.
☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼
He made it through the night and after a couple weeks at the vet they got the call that he was well enough for them to take him home if they wanted. Alison had gone back and forth in those weeks of whether or not a dog would be a good fit for them but with Cat asking for updates on the dog every single day there really was no other option.
They arrived at the vet, checking in with the receptionist and waiting for a vet to bring out their newest member of the family. Catalyst sat down beside her but his leg wouldn't stop shaking. Alison tried to quell his nervousness with a touch but it did little. The few minutes must have seemed like ages to the teen because they definitely felt that way for her but soon enough she picked up the clicking of claws against tile. Cat sprung up from his seat but remained rooted to the spot as their little mutt rounded the corner. He was sniffing at everything, not really looking any specific place as he practically pulled the technician behind him. When he caught sight of Cat his tail wagging transformed into a full body wiggle, pulling more earnestly against the thin leash. Catalyst met him halfway, dropping into a squat then promptly being knocked over as the dog hopped his front paws on Cat's shoulders, energetically covering the boy's face in puppy drool. Then, Cat laughed. A deep burst of delighted energy encompassed in sound. “I missed you too.”
Alison had yet to hear such a pure, unbridled, joyful sound come from Catalyst's mouth. This was definitely the right choice.

You know what? I’m bored and I want to pretend that I’m vaguely interesting. So without further ado; 65 Questions!
Do you ever doubt the existence of others than you? - Nah, I doubt my own existence and meaning the most. I have no reason to doubt anyone else’s existence, because I sure as hell couldn’t make such lovely cheery things.
On a scale of 1-5, how afraid of the dark are you? - 2, because I can’t see. I have terrible night-vision that takes ages to jostle on. So I end up navigating by visual and spacial memory if I need to walk around. Because I have my own system for storing items and leaving them about, I end up remembering my surroundings very well.
The person you would never want to meet? - Anyone who doesn’t meet my basic moral requirements.
What is your favorite word? -  In French, it’d be argent, since silver is pretty and I love how it’s pronounced. In English, plethora, for similar reasons. Finnish is harder to pick.. hmmmh, hurma?
If you were a type of tree, what would you be? - what is known here as “The silver willow”, which is a variation of the white willow (salix alba), that has silvery bluish sheen to it’s leaves and a darker tree trunk. Salix alba var. sericea 'Sibirica'. Sometimes 'Argentea' ja 'Sericea' are also considered to be of the same variation. If I was a flower, I think I’d like to be the Eden climbing rose or a marigold.
When you looked in the mirror this morning what was the first thing you thought? - my face is bloated again, I guess the meds didn’t absorb properly.
What shirt are you wearing? - dark blue men’s print shirt that doubles as a pyjama
What do you label yourself as? - Agender, nonbinary, trans, bi and a problem.
Bright room or dark room? - dim room.
What were you doing at midnight last night? - myself
Favorite age you’ve been so far? - the now. I moved into another city away from my family, closer to my dear friend, so- it’s a whole lot better. Emotional turbulence is easing a little too.
Who told you they loved you last? - ... my emotionally abusive family.
Your worst enemy? - myself and the bigoted society.
What is your current desktop picture? - a cat skull I painted myself.
Do you like someone? - I do, I like many people. My friends, my brothers and grandma.
The last song you listened to? - I love you by Woodkid. It’s a mood.
You can press a button that will make any one person explode. Who would you blow up? - dorito.
Who would you really like to just punch in the face? - I’d rather not damage my hands.
If anyone could be your slave for a day, who would it be and what would they have to do? - That sounds absolutely dreadful, no I don’t want to have anyone do anything they do not wish to do. It’s about consent, not-consenting is not funny or desirable to me in any way.  Now if you were to give me a butler, who has personal agency to say no and, perhaps, a snarky attitude- I really would love to be pampered a little. just- being held and taken care of would be nice. It doesn’t have to be anything non-platonic but I wouldn’t mind if it was? Gentle snark, reassurance, maybe a massage, please.
What is your best physical attribute? (showing said attribute is optional) - Strong legs? I suppose my butt’s nice too. I like the curve of my back? Hands and eyes? it’s a very subjective question for someone who doesn’t like themselves.
If you were the opposite sex for one day, what would you look like and what would you do? - find a way not to change back, thank you! finally, the correct bits. Don’t mind if I do.
Do you have a secret talent? If yes, what is it? - I can’t.. think of any? Nothing that’d be a secret anyway. Unless walking so quietly that I startle people sometimes counts? I don’t do that on purpose, though. Being so oblivious to something I end up bypassing it’s complications by sheer force of will?
What is one unique thing you’re afraid of? - I’m usually not afraid of any tangible things, only general things like pain and being abandoned by the people I love. Or never being accepted and loved in general. I’ve been working through haphephobia for years, but specifically; I’m afraid that my fear of touch will smear itself onto the relationships I feel the most comfortable and myself in. I can’t help flinching, it’s still instinctual, and I can’t tolerate a whole lot of contact from most people- but the longer I go without any contact, the more I fear that next time it’ll burn again. I almost regret telling my friends that I have haphephobia, because instead of asking if I’m okay with something, now I’m just- deprived of contact all together. It’s fairly hard to teach the brain that something is normal and okay when it’s never there at all.
You can only have one kind of sandwich. Every sandwich ingredient known to humankind is at your disposal. - OH- definitely begin with some kickass, fresh-baked oat loaf, one you’ve bought that morning. Slice it thick, because it’s soft and divine. As for fillings, I am torn between several types of fish. Gravlax is amazing in itself, but smoked salmon in mayo with diced cucumber, lemon juice, dill, green onion, maybe celery sounds superb. or tuna in tomato purée, with freshly diced chives and tiny bit of mayo to balance the tang, if you want a simpler filling.  For salad bits; salad, cucumber, tomato, red onion, red bellpepper.   Optionally, some bacon and mushroom salad (it’s made from home-salted mushrooms that have been de-salted once, with diced red onion, mayo, maybe dijon, and white pepper. I make the best damn mushroom salad)  As for cheese, feta crumbs, mozzarella slices or a pan-crisp goat cheese button. For sauce, I prefer garlic or cucumber mayo, or even a yogurt sauce.  on top, a slightly gooey fried egg seasoned with citron-pepper and chili (so that the yolk may graze all the goodness). If you wish to be decadent as hell, throw some diced garlic, butter and yellow onion onto a pan, crisp it, throw it on top of all and then throw some choice sauces on it.  Even without the salmon filling, the bacon and mushroom salad with the rest makes for the best damn experience you could have whilst eating a sandwich.
You just found $100! How are you going to spend it? - Save half, buy food and something for my friend.
You just got a free plane ticket to anywhere in the world, but you have to leave immediately. Where are you going to go? - no thanks, all my goods are here. But Norway and Iceland would be nice one day.
An angel appears out of Heaven and offers you a lifetime supply of the alcoholic beverage of your choice. “Be brand-specific” it says. Man! What are you gonna say about that? Even if you don’t drink booze there’s something you can figure out… so what’s it gonna be? - uhhhhh, I don’t usually drink alcohol cause I can’t stand the taste. I’ve known to very rarely have a long-drink or a lemonade-esque thing though. So maybe Smirnoff ICE, If I was to drink it myself. Otherwise, rum or hard spirits like, a vodka of some kind, cause they are fairly versatile to use in emergencies, to bake with, or to gift.
You discover a beautiful island upon which you may build your own society. You make the rules. What is the first rule you put into place? - Be kind.
What is your favorite expletive? - Saatana or perkele. I am a finn after all.
Your house is on fire, holy shit! You have just enough time to run in there and grab ONE inanimate object. Don’t worry, your loved ones and pets have already made it out safely. So what’s the one thing you’re going to save from that blazing inferno? - computer. It is the most expensive one and it has all my art of info in it, so it’s very obvious. That or my important papers file.
You can erase any horrible experience from your past. What will it be? - one would not be enough to erase the damage I suffer from today. I would erase being born, if given free choice.
You got kicked out of the country for being a time-traveling heathen who sleeps with celebrities and has super-powers. But check out this cool shit… you can move to anywhere else in the world! - I’d find a remote community in an area, have a cottage and just. I dunno, do art, bake and have a garden for fruits and cool projects. I’d make my own earthen oven. A big cast-iron pan.
The Celestial Gates Of Beyond have opened, much to your surprise because you didn’t think such a thing existed. Death appears. As it turns out, Death is actually a pretty cool entity, and happens to be in a fantastic mood. Death offers to return the friend/family-member/person/etc. of your choice to the living world. Who will you bring back? - Grandma. Her shitty husband bullied her in her last year while she was dying to breast cancer. I love her, and she deserved better.
What was your last dream about? - [Trigger warning, this gets extreme] I was belly-down on the ground, grabbed by the throat from behind. I wrangled one hand off, but every time I managed to get both, one of those hands would slip my grasp and choke me again. I barely got a single breath between. This went on and on and on. I cried for help and reached out, only for someone to grab my hand in disdain, saying something like ‘tsh, fine. Cry then.’ They held my hand in a way that their nails dug into that hand. I no longer had both hands to pry the assaulter’s hands away. I slowly choked to death.   I woke up and hand to claw at my own hand just to breathe through my panic. I felt those hands on my throat for days. This is, unfortunately, normal for me.
Are you a good….[insert anything you’d like here]? - No.
Have you ever been admitted to the hospital? - I have an autoimmune condition that has hospitalized and nearly killed me on several occasions. So yes. I take that in strides.
Have you ever built a snowman? - Yes, with my brothers. It was nice.
What is the color of your socks? - Black, always
What type of music do you like? - Anything between rock, pop, folk and classical. Violin music in particular.
Do you prefer sunrises or sunsets? - Both are nice
What is your favorite milkshake flavor? - chocolate or blueberry
What football team do you support? - I don’t watch football
Do you have any scars? - Yes. Stretch marks, old wounds, new wounds. I have a scar behind my left ear that if you were to touch it, you’d notice it has a split beneath it on the skull from how hard it was hit. I fell on a radiator edge when I was younger and almost lost my ear from it, got three stitches. I also have a scar below from a biking accident, couldn’t sit for a few weeks.
What do you want to be when you graduate? - Already did, and the answer is odd jobs and nothing, apparently.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? - torn between ‘existence’ and ‘bodily gender’
Are you reliable? - Yes and no. I will keep any secret and help out whenever I can but would I trust myself to handle anything I care about? No.
If you could ask your future self one question, what would it be? - Does it get better?
Do you hold grudges? - I do not forget, but I do not dwell.
If you could breed two animals together to defy the laws of nature, what new animal would you create? - A cat and a duck. The ultimate bastard.
What is the most unusual conversation you’ve ever had? - the one where a stalker told me they’d dug every information they could find for two weeks before talking to me. They asked for my home address in 30 different ways, apparently hoping I’d forget I’d said no. They proceeded to hand me a yaoi manga as a souvenir from a con. I felt vaguely threatened.
Are you a good liar? - hmm. I try not to lie, If I don’t want to answer I’ll dodge or say I don’t want to answer. But, I suppose I am, for being able to hide half the things that I’ve been able to.
How long could you go without talking? - I begin talking out loud to fill out soundless spaces, so not a whole lot.
What has been you worst haircut/style? - ‘I want to speak to the manager’ and ‘little timmy is the best soccer player in his class’
Have you ever baked your own cake? - I baked most of everything back at my parents, so yes.
Can you do any accents other than your own? - funny ones, mostly
What do you like on your toast? - spread, ham, cheese, tomato, cucumber, aromasalt, fried egg  - spread, liver patée, cucumber and aromasalt/pickles - spread, gravlax/tuna/salmon - spread, boiled egg slices, pickled herring (they come in jars, I prefer onion ones) in thinner slices, I add extra dill into the jars when I open them so they can marinate more.
What is the last thing you drew a picture of? - currently working on a personal WIP
What would be you dream car? - A car that someone else drives. With air conditioning.
Do you sing in the shower? Or do anything unusual in the shower? Explain. - no and no. I shower and then I’m done. I don’t like my voice, nor my body, nor wasting water. I do wash thoroughly though.
Do you believe in aliens? - It doesn’t interest me at all whether or not there is or isn’t.
Do you often read your horoscope? - only if it’s the only thing left to read or if it’s just readily visible without me looking for it. I think they’re bogus, but sometimes admittedly silly.
What is your favorite letter of the alphabet? - H or lowercase T, because I write them very loopy.
Which is cooler: dinosaurs or dragons? - They’re both cool in their own ways. A dinosaur is way bigger but as fantasy creatures dragons can fly, breathe elements and shape-shift though, hard to top that.
What do you think about babies? - Ew.
Tell something of your choice - If I had a cat, I’d name it Mishka or Meowkolash or Umi (sa, umineko ga inai to, “Umi” neko ga onaka ga suite iru) because I’m a nerd who loves umineko and bad jokes.

Things to do with kids in any part of the world
Things to do with your kids in any part of the world: USA, Europe & Beyond
No matter where you are in the world, you don’t need a lot of money or extravagant things to make children happy and have fun. I’m a pure example of this. Here are some ideas to get your juices flowing:
Build a tent
Seriously, who buys those pop-up store tents anymore? (I’m not judging, I used to own them lol) When you have a small living space or live out of a suitcase like us, you have the luxury of having All. The. Things. amiright?
So, trust me, kids will much rather build their own tent with extra bedsheets, pillowcases, fabrics and chairs of all sorts.
Have bunk beds? Ohhh those are the best and bring back so many memories! #hello
Make cookies
(at least in my household) kids want IN on whatever you’re doing. Haha, My youngest child will harass my life to ‘help cook’ until I say yes. Obviously, I should be sterner and not give in (what the heck am I teaching her by giving in right? I know. moving on) but in this case, I adore the cuteness of a teeny tiny human with a cupcake for a face, trouting along to beg me to cook. How can I resist? So I now schedule time for the girls to cook. And what’s more fun than mixing, tasting and squishing!
Arts and crafts
This is my inner creative alter ego wanting to pry itself out. I LOVE arts and crafts (don’t be fooled, I’m by no means crafty or good haha) I enjoy it, and I promise if you let go of perfectionism you will too. Honestly, you don’t even need ‘a plan.’ Go to your craft store, i.e., any dollar store, and stock up on anything even remotely crafty, even if you think you won’t use it. Head straight to the stationary section, then head to the home/garden isle, after the tool and auto isle (you need something reasonable to hold all this crap, food aisle (for cheap dry goods. think beans, rice, and oats) and finally the kitchen isle for plastic cups, foil, etc. and those paper plates you’ll need for those maracas.
Make playdough
Why on Gods green earth is playdough SO DAMN EXPENSIVE???!!! Okay, I’m sorry for yelling. #Imdone. I’ve never purchased playdough for the girls because we afford it and when we could, why the heck would I pay that much anyway? And for the bargain shopper mamas reading this before you go on to tell me I can buy them in bulk, on sale, from said dollar store…I wrote above- here are my thoughts: my kids must be one a kind because these boogers go on to ‘make’ me food creations of all types and mix the playdough in all kinds of ways to make colors I didn’t even know existed. (and I’ve tried those cheaper ones and my goodness- NO THANKS) Kids enjoy cooking (see note above) and making messes, it’s a win-win. Plus it’s super easy, all types of recipes available online. So no excuses. (and no it doesn’t take that long. #aintnobodygottimeforthat
Have a Treasure Hunt
This is sooo fun. Honestly, it doesn’t need to be, and it gives you time to just sit down. Ah. You can hide anything from candy, new pencils, notes, etc. (Think the birthday section at a said dollar store) Play dress up we only have girls, and it goes without saying that they enjoy dressing up. (see toy section of any dollar store. do you see a pattern here lol) But I can only guess that boys would enjoy dressing up as well as it is a great pretend/imaginative play. Make pizza Let me start off by saying that if you don’t like pizza, I don’t know we can be friends. Ok just kidding maybe lol I don’t think I’ve ever met a kid but doesn’t like pizza and this is indeed such a versatile and cheap thing to make that there isn’t any excuse for you not to make it and it’s a lot of fun. I grew up pretty poor, and pizza for us consisted of a slice of white wonder bread cheap no-frills pasta sauce and a slice of what was supposed to be cheese. Then we popped it in the oven for a few minutes watching it until the cheese got ever so slightly burned and dug in. Do everyone in your family a favor and make the dough from scratch is pretty simple or you can just buy it one from the store it’s still a lot of fun!
Fly a kite (create a kite)
So self-explanatory and kids love it so go get one and get to your local park already if you don’t have a kite , crafts to the rescue! It is super easy to make, and they work!
Stargaze
This is one of my favorite pastimes, so I feel kind of selfish writing it but our kids loved it, and I think it’s because we are both from big cities in you don’t see stars are often and when you think it’s the one you realize that it’s just a helicopter. Enjoy the little things
Listen to books
Another guilty pleasure here but I’ve posted this love answer my children, and it’s always a good time. There are a few ways you can do this if you’re looking for free options the best way is to download the Overdrive or Libby app and entering your details and library card details, and you get to listen to audiobooks for free. If finances are no burden for you then audible is such an excellent option, and they have pretty much anything you could look for. Except The gruffalo…they don’t have that anymore because Julia Donaldson wants to do stick to print books…ok I digress. Haha. Another more affordable option is the Scribd app. it’s pretty amazing because you pay a small fee of about 5 to 8 books of month, and you get to listen to an unlimited amount books the downside is that you don’t keep it, so it’s kind of like a music subscription you get all the music you want while you’re paying subscriber otherwise you lose all your stuff.
  Read books
Same advice as above^
Make a play
Piggybacking off of the dress up here….our girls could do this all day long. Like seriously. They have. They do.
Keep all and any extra boxes you can get your hands on… The bigger, the better. (Invest in a good x-acto knife) < you’ll need this for the never-ending requests to make doors, windows and “secret exits.”
Build a snowman
If you’re in a climate where it permits this, don’t let the beauty of snow pass by because it’s bitterly cold. Trust me. I understand the struggle. But at the end of the day, it doesn’t last and the memories will.
Park
Does this really need a caption?
Train or bus ride
So, it doesn’t matter if you’re in NYC, London, Paris, or your tiny small town that’s barely making Google maps…if there are buses or trains, use em. Kids love this stuff.
Free workshops
Don’t underestimate your local library. They always have fantastic free workshops going on where all the is required is a simple registration.
Farmers market
This is such a great way to immerse yourself where you are. If you’re traveling like us, this allows you to see and meet new people. Engage in the culture and get fresh produce, food, and knick-knacks.
Make musical instruments
Here I am with the craft stuff again! If you’re like us and travel like it’s your second job, then this is a good one. Music is good for the spirit, and you wouldn’t believe how easy it is to use common household things to make instruments out of.
Have a parade
When you’re done making said instruments^ Be super silly and have a parade! Storm and stomp around the house and have fun. (Be mindful of the hour of course if you live above anyone)
Bubble bath
I can’t quite remember, but there was a time/age where our girls didn’t always get along so well. And the only time where there was a sense of peace was when they were taking baths. Seriously, don’t underestimate the power of simple water, soap and “toys” (I wrote that in quotes because I despise bath toys and much prefer temporary toys like plastic water bottles, used up lemon juice containers, etc)
Birdwatch
Children do mimic what they see. Obviously, this can be a good and bad thing. In this case, it’s alright. Many times throughout the day you can find me lost in thought #heyfellowinfj and wait for it: bird or human watching
The girls love seeing birds up close and analyzing their attributes. Have your kiddos try this!
Make confetti
Kids love to make messes so let them! Grab any old magazines, newspapers, leaflets, flyers, and pieces of scrap paper you no longer need and cut them up. You can simply put them through the shredder (this adds to the fun, but obviously watch out for those little fingers and blades) or cut shapes snowflakes, etc. Then toss them in the air and roll around in it and have a confetti party!
Outdoor sport
One of the joys of many sports is that you can travel with said instruments. Any game that involves a ball can fit in your luggage once deflated. Cricket is super lightweight, and the ball is small. Frisbee is a fantastic choice. It can get tricky with tennis as rackets tend to be heavy and bulky. (But relatively cheap to purchase)
Sidewalk drawing
Chalk is typically cheap anywhere you go and works on almost any sidewalk/balcony! If you have a private area you’re using, bring out the hose, a bucket or a bowl of water to wash away the drawings and begin fresh the next day.
Garden
Nature freedom!
Go to a museum, café, library or bookstore.
To find free museums, type “free museum, city” into your browser of choice….Same with the others.
Fire station
This may differ wherever you go, but in the US, most firefighters are happy to speak to children when they drop by to have a look but do call first to verify! (To avoid disappointment) We’ve never had an issue, but you never know.
Sing & dance
So I almost felt a bit hypocritical writing this one because I loathe doing both in public. Yes, even in front of my own family haha! But, I assure you, if you’re the same way, take it slow and do it scared! You’ll be glad you did. The easiest thing to do is go to YouTube and find some kid dance channels (maybe search for kid choreography) and let the magic happen. We also use a Toca Boca dance app!
Learn a language
After a certain amount of time traveling (it’s been years for us) your kiddos will grow to love languages. Naturally, as humans, especially little humans, we love communicating. And there’s no better way than completely immersing yourself into another one’s culture: language and all.
I realize this specifies toddlers in the heading. However, these activities can be easily adapted and enjoyed by older children as well. My kiddos are in the 10 and under range (as an example.)
