I do really dislike the nothing matters approach to the past games that Vielguard has for the conflicts like. The Qunari threat has been talked about and telegraphed heavily for three games, there's an interesting if flawed sociopolitical ideology conflict at play and it's just a matter of time before that comes to a head.

except actually the Antaam broke off from the Qunari, don't follow the same ideologies at all, and that's why they're invading. what does that mean for Qunari society and the political ideology it runs on? Not gonna talk about it. the endgame of all that intrigue is just corrupt flamethrower wielding terrorists extra corrupted by evil entities that you can kill in droves.

I was never super up on that part of the lore to be honest but I just. if any aspect of the Qunari conflict felt oversimplified before it's so much more so now.

And same thing in Orlais. There are novels I haven't read worth of history on its imperialism and budding servant class revolution that is completely intertwined with the politics of a crusading religion and heavily ingrained racism. You have the opportunity in the last game to really stir that pot one way or another by having a hand in who the leader of the country will be with your options ranging from a militaristic nationalist to a puppet government controlled by elvhen rebels. you can even force a tense compromise and wouldn't it be fun to see how that works.

except actually a faction of the Orleasian nobility has joined the bad guy cultists who are also their longstanding religious rivals from Tevinter, because they got more corrupted by the evil entities and are now driving the conflict in the south that the Inquisitor is dealing with wholly on their own. There was some intrigue in the codex I read about this but also it's not your problem at all and again, the real problem is the evil entities from the fade that you're going to defeat anyway.

I dunno. I don't even think you needed to count player choices from previous games towards the Qunari conflict much as player choice never really touched that, but fine.

Me, when I see modern retellings of Greek myths that are actually worse than the original---- from woobifying some gods and making them innocent meow meows to demonizing and villainizing others (eg. Demeter and, yes, even Hera), ignoring how they are morally grey and can't just be lumped in with a modern viewpoint at all times, making the goddess and other female figures "girlboss" but also riddled with undertones of misogyny/internalized misogyny and victim blaming (you see this a lot with retellings for Medusa, especially regarding Andromeda because if they aren't making her a girlboss than they hate on her for being a damsel, which isn't even bad, or even make her the "other woman" 😭), or make characters like Perseus the bad guy, even though he was literally sent/went on a dangerous, life threatening quest to save his mother (and himself lowkey) from an abuser and then went to save Andromeda, who he loved even though these retellings try to say otherwise, from death:

On the topic of gaster because I have him on the brain now. Interesting to me that so many people see the “what do you two think” line as referring to sans and papyrus. Even though I don’t think there’s really any connection between papyrus and gaster other than they’re both connected to sans in some way. Sans has the gaster blaster as the big one but he also has the workshop and whatever and also the out of nowhere acknowledgement of timelines. (Don’t get me started on this. Or do. I have a lot to say on how the timeline acknowledgement and sans being secretly super powerful feels more like a joke than something you’re supposed to take seriously but also I’ve never actually fought him so idk lol. Maybe that’s the gist of it actually.) Papyrus doesn’t really have anything connecting him to gaster. I think this is another reason the “gaster is blood related to the skeletons” thing never really felt right to me LOL However I’m not really sure what to actually make of the line. iirc alphys didn’t actually seem to be well known until she created mettaton? So I’m not sure she would necessarily have been super close with gaster. Idk. I don’t have much more to say about this. I’m not sure where I was going with this lol

Ever thought about my persona on the pfp??

Her name is Alice and she's supposed to be a puella madoka magica inspired witch, I've slightly dug some of the context to make sure its slightly accurate and see what's up just to end up making more versions of alice.

The simple explanation is that when this magical girl turned into a witch and realized so, she refused to go full on it, therefore she's just a blob at first, running away from being fused with other witches and being awkwardly anti-social, until later on as she starts to forget what she is and why she's there for, yknow the witch stuff.

So she turns into this big bad ball witch, eating people alive, the add up is that she just happens to appear when people imagine anything, even fake scenarios, numbers and others so this thing eats their imagination and soul unsuspecting of it.

But literally centuries later she just turns back into Alice over some sad kid story thingy I will not explain cuz of post length.

When the witch turned to Alice, by this point she was powerful, so she pulled a 100IQ move to prevent herself from dying by magical girls with the complexity of their persona made solely from their genie wishes granted by some funny looking bilingual bunny cat interspecies that should probably be burned to death.

She separated her own persona and with it created two witches, (like if witches are so good what about witches 2???) Both managing the same exact labyrinth, so even if a magical girl yeeted alice from existence, they'd still have to find this other one and destroy it so its fully defeated.

There's a lot going on behind this ,so you might as well ask me about the lore through private messages ,which will probably change overtime because I haven't structured the lore quite well yet. Here's everything else.

Fun fact: I didn't personally color jack stuff except for the eyes on the floating girl, the backgrounds and dandelions, everything else is literally stock images of fabric placed upon the witch so it gives the actual witch vibe. Have fun with that thought.

Doll’s creator might not even been Gehrman??

Honestly though, the idea that it was Moon Presence who created the Doll like that is so frikin good as well, and it works too?

- Lore never mentions WHO created the Doll by the name or the status, every description only says ‘doll’s creator’ (!)

- Doll does bleed paleblood, so that’s at least a hint on what animates her, so is this a far stretch that she just made the whole creature altogether?

- Wishing for comfort, warmth and support ‘albeit in vain’ could have referred to Moon Presence’s failure to force a genuine love for her into a creation; meanwhile Doll does mention that thing about creation by gods

- ‘Mania’ link doesn’t exist; “his curious mania” is mistranslation of “madness of his curiousity” and the mania put into creation of Doll’s clothes refers to being absorbed in work, so what if it was her who got so lost into getting to design something like this? (retranslation document: ( x ))

- Doll’s purpose is stated to serve the hunters and the Hunter’s Dream, she is like Gehrman but is more perceived as one of the tools (to channel blood echoes)... and, well, Moon Presence does govern the dreaming hunters... It is not far stretch to assume that most of the hunters visiting the Dream are hetero males, so it is very palatable that Moon Presence simply used her most barebones idea of ‘a woman’, that will be comforting for ‘men’. I mean, a being of entirely different and superior plane of existence could very well interpret humans through stereotypes and basic ideas. Heck, some humans also do it xD

- Making the Doll look like Maria could be her awkward attempt to make Gehrman happy, to honor Maria as one of the most “useful” hunters (to perpetuate the cycle of beasts, hunting and GOs’ worship), or both

- For someone who supposedly created the Doll as either an unhealthy grief reaction and clinging for happier, simpler times before Maria’s hunter arc, or dreaming about better life, is not it... strange that he never mentions Maria, even when he is sleeping? He seems to care about Laurence more, in fact. So what if he did not care about her to SUCH big extent as to create a doll of her?

- Would resolve big immersion break when you find doll’s clothes in the chest rather than pick them from the “real world” doll; maybe Moon Presence saved extra copy of the dress just in case if someone ever loves Gehrman and wants to join the Dream. Like maybe she has whole one (1) idea for what such people would want to wear.

I think there are still a few sticks in the wheel here. Like how someone who cared about hair ornament had to be a real person. But even then, could’ve been Maria herself, maybe she just really fucking loved that hair ornament a lot. And also that Doll sleeping is odd but finding Maria asleep too could explain it; that when one of them is asleep another is awake, and vice-versa, but neither remembers what’s in another one’s realm. (and they also have the same voice, in Japan too - it’s Saori Hayami!)

But honestly, this is such a.... how do I put it, sparing theory? Forgiving one? It is basically “nobody was weird, it was just a god that doesn’t know much of humans’ complexity beyond just what they want from them”. Yet again, Miyazaki put the story in such a way that opens SO many opportunities for interpretation?

it kinda surprises me that there's still hcs that cookie babies are made via other cookies/by the parents with a special oven (not sure if that was confirmed somewhere or i missed the lore) when in the middle of this new update cause it always felt like it was implied that cookies baking other living cookies was like. against the laws of nature hfhfggd essentially its like making a homunculus, and researching how to do it (like wl did) was pretty taboo so that hc never made sense to me! if it was canonical butter roll wouldn't be part of the cod if cookies/cookie babies were so easily made and him being a mad scientist trying to make the perfect cookie wouldn't make much sense, at least to me.

hfhgdhg I always had the hc of a more fairytale way cookies were made that included the sugar swan since she has the power to give life. a single cookie (or a couple) offer a small bit of their dough and some extra ingredients (optional) to a sugar lace stork and the stork takes it to be made by some magical means with help from the sugar swan (honestly there could be an entire team of celestial/magical cookies that oversee cookie babies hfhgfnbf) later coming back to the parents with a new baby cookie! and same gender cookie couples can have bio children too! <3

what i’m getting initially from the lore is that the arcane flight in ancient times had a decent burgeoning capacity for aethernaut technology and there is a non-zero chance there are other unfathomably ancient early space age artifacts of a fallen past dragon civilization in the sky, and that following the astrolab’s launch the entire planetbound aether civilization was wiped out with little trace by some unspecified cataclysm, likely warring with another primal race, leaving the scientists on the makeshift generation ship as the only survivors.

perhaps aether was not their original name, but over untold tens or even hundreds of thousands of years isolation the remainder of their species, descended from their lost landbound counterpart’s trained aethernauts, shortened the title further and further into simply “aether” and with enough time (and book-eating) further simply forgot there was ever more?

and they get all their battle tactics knowledge from their poorly organized larp sessions of old-enough-to-be-fossilized tapes saved from their lost groundward civilization of ancient dragon star trek and name things like they work for god damn aperture science. “material emancipation grille”. and they’re literally sparkledog mary sues. who the fuck let them name themselves. why did they start naming themselves “xxxdarkstarxxx” i can’t decide if it’s numbly dismaying or numbly fucking hilarious (as all emotions are numb and distant for me these days) that that’s canon and there is now a canon mary sue sparkledragon breed like have they literally just been doing nothing but spinning their wheels creating warrior owlcats rp forums up there since the rest of their species died. when they sent all their best and brightest up there was it like how the entire modern real world tech infrastructure is held up by about 30 furries that if any one of decided to disconnect their pager for a few hours the entire internet and literally civilization itself would collapse in a fire and now all that’s left of their breed are all descended from that.

their culture seems to be clan-troupes, likely descended from specific maintenance teams, of distorted half-religiocized echoes of random portions of long-forgotten ship repair safety training and shakily clung to jumbled impressions of some sort of lost pseudomilitaristic crewed vessel hierarchy, and it’s strangely giving me a combination of the movie passengers vibes and a wikipedia summary i skimmed once of one of the later books in something called the xeelee sequence, which described a long-future descendant of humanity on a generation ship in which these remnants of humanity had devolved so much that they now no longer had much sentience, preforming ship repair and maintenance by pure instinct as a way of attracting mates and having no real understanding of what they were doing or why.

a am however at a loss as to why, of all things their lore could be, their entire gimmick seems to revolve around compulsively eating paper.

after seeing a trailer for something called hyper light breaker, i assume an alleged sequel to something else called hyper light drifter, i have made the retroactive decision to assign them a synthwave-ish, hyperreallife pulsating sleek slanted laser light energy beams making roadways for sleek glowing similarly fizzling near-digital lightcraft sort of aesthetic, vaguely cyberpunk but made from faintly magitech parts, sans any sort of digital artifacts visual additions. the actual aesthetic i am thinking of is not in any way based on the game itself, but instead is based purely on the feeling of the name alone taken out of context of the game it applies to. what type of imagery and feeling of the words “hyper light drifter” on their own with no knowledge of the game inspire. i will likely forget what i meant by this in three weeks time.

ik there's a lot of debate about how palia is mixing heavy lore into what's supposed to be a relaxing, coxy life sim but also like,,, i feel like the way they're doing it now is literally fine?

the lore is definitely part of the world and the quests, but there's literally no in game timer or consequences. nothing bad happens if a player doesn't want to complete the temple bundles or skips lore dialogue or puts certain quests on the back burner (and you can choose to not see certain quests on the main ui so there's no stress there either). like,, i get that the lore Is heavy and that some people don't want that in their cute farming sim but again, there's literally nothing forcing players to interact with or care about it. i genuinely do not see the issue??
