❖ kiss your heart // xu minghao

minghao x f!reader, 1.1k+ words
tags: established relationship, both xmh + yn are RICH rich, fluff, kissing, marriage/proposal talks, minghao is literally so in love omfg
warnings: pet names (angel, sweetheart)
notes: literally me rambling about rich + devoted minghao with absolutely no direction planned and i think it's super obvious HELPP but it does not matter !! ur honor i luv these 2 theyre so sassy smitten and it devastates me
“you’re actually the worst person i’ve ever met.”
you glare at your boyfriend as he gets out of the driver’s seat, walks around the front of the parked car and opens your door for you. he’s still smiling that faintly smug smile that’s been on his stupidly handsome face ever since you left the restaurant, and you hate it.
“sweetheart,” minghao says, taking hold of your hand and helping you out of the car, “it’s really no big deal.”
you scoff, rolling your eyes. releasing minghao’s hand, you deposit your purse into his waiting palm and flounce away, across the car park and to the apartment building doors.
minghao struggles to hold back a laugh as he trails after you. y/n. you’re not truly mad, are you?”
“of course i’m truly mad,” you huff. “you said i could pay for our date this time.”
during the five years you’ve been dating minghao, he’s taken you on a whole variety of incredible dates. from the impromptu long weekend to paris to the days where you just go to the restaurant down the block for dinner, minghao has never failed to take care of you and always pays for your meal.
any other person would be flattered to have such a rich and devoted boyfriend. and really, you adore that about him, too.
but, well. you’re rich also. and sometimes, you want to be the one to dote on your boyfriend.
you punch in the building code unnecessarily hard and stomp through the automatic doors before minghao can catch up with you. from behind, you can hear him laughing, and it makes you whirl back around to look at him, pouting extravagantly.
“i don’t see why that’s so funny. you promised, hao,” you whine, and minghao just laughs again.
that night had been just a normal date night, nothing more than the two of you dressing up to go to that one upscale chinese place that you both love. and so, it seemed like the best day to finally start paying for your dates—if it was any big occasion, minghao would’ve definitely protested against the idea, insistent that he wanted to treat you on such a special day.
and at the time, it seemed like it would work.
minghao had smiled at you, adjusting the pearls around your neck, and agreed.
you’d felt ridiculously satisfied, excited at the fact that finally, you’d have a chance to pay for your boyfriend. but oh, how wrong you were.
“i’m sorry, angel,” minghao says now, brushing a finger over your cheek fondly before pressing the ‘up’ button for the elevator. “it just so happened that i’d already paid for our meal before we’d even got there. i didn’t want to burst your bubble by telling you so, but i guess that made it even worse, hm?”
you whine again in frustration. “hao, that’s not even a thing! you can’t pay for a meal in advance!”
“i can when i know exactly what we’re going to order,” minghao grins.
“what?! i swear, that must go against restaurant etiquette! that's actually crazy behaviour. i can't believe you did that."
the elevator arrives then, and minghao gestures for you to get in first. you do, still arguing with him over restaurant rules and whatnot. even as you do so, supposedly very upset over his behaviour, you still hold onto his arm and lean against him to take off your heels, and then pass them over to him once they’re off your aching feet.
minghao smiles amusedly, terribly smitten.
“—going to get you back for that stunt one day, xu minghao,” you say, stabbing an accusing finger into his shoulder. “gonna book out the entire restaurant. no, wait, the entire street! we’re going to venice one day, and i’m going to close down a whole road for us only. just you wait.”
the elevator doors open with a ding, and he trails behind as you continue talking, dreaming up big plans on how to treat your boyfriend sometime in the future.
it’s devastatingly endearing. he knows it was maybe a tiny, tiny bit mean to advance-pay the bill tonight, but in his defence, he does that most nights anyway. plus, he likes seeing how pouty you get over it, knowing you're not actually upset, but still insisting you are because you can pay for your own meals, without minghao's card, thank you very much.
and you very much can—he hasn’t run the numbers in a while, but he’s pretty sure you’re richer than him right now—but he likes paying for you. likes taking care of you like this.
he inputs the keycode to the apartment, chuckling as you continue to rant.
“okay, alright,” he finally concedes, opening the door and letting you enter first, taking off your wool coat for you and hanging it up by the door. “in which case, how about a compromise? i pay for our ordinary dates like these, and you can pay for special occasions.”
your eyes light up at his words. “wait, really?”
minghao laughs. “yes, really.” he puts your purse on the dresser by the door, your shoes in the shoe cupboard and then takes off his own. “except for valentine’s day, white day, our anniversary, and your birthday. i’ll be paying for those.”
“what?” you complain. “hao, you’re leaving me with nothing!”
“you can pay for my birthday.”
“come on, that’s a given. i would do that anyway.”
you’re giving him those big, sad eyes again, and minghao can’t help but smile even wider. lord, you’re just so pretty and you love him so much and he’s never been more grateful for that because he loves you so much too.
“well,” he says, pretending to think, “we don’t have an engagement or wedding anniversary yet. so if those things ever happen… then maybe…”
your eyes widen, little sparkles appearing in your irises even as your entire face softens, gentle and hopeful. “you’re… you want to marry me?”
minghao can’t take this anymore. he walks over, takes your face in his hands and kisses you, once. and then again, deeper, softer, for good measure. just to get his point across.
“of course,” he murmurs against your lips when he pulls away. “i love you.”
you lean in and peck him on the lips once more. “i love you too,” you say, and then pull away so he can see the mischievous glint in your eyes. “hey. if i propose to you, then i’ll definitely get to pay for every engagement anniversary we have, right?”
minghao laughs, pulling you back into his embrace. “sure, sweetheart. that’s only if you propose to me first, however.”
“are you trying to start a proposal race, minghao?”
“maybe. will you join in, y/n?”
you laugh, looping your arms behind his neck and bringing his face close to yours again. “oh, it’s on.”

Movie Night
(Toji and His Shy Girl)
Friday night is unofficially movie night for you and Toji. You always go back and forth on what you should do and options are tossed out, like a nice dinner or trying food from someplace new or going to a view and sitting in the trunk of his car with blankets and some snacks. Most of the time, all of those options are thrown out the window and you just end up sitting in your bed or his bed and watching movies together. It doesn't matter what you do, it's always good, and the sleep overs make it even better.
A knock on your door signals Toji's arrival. Though you haven't had any caffeine since the coffee you treated yourself to earlier in the afternoon, you feel jittery. You grab the surprise you have for him and walk over to answer the door. As soon as you pull the door open, there he is, looking handsome as always, even when he's donning a simple t-shirt and some sweatpants. He gives you that smirk of his—the one that makes your chest feel all warm and fuzzy, and wakes up the butterflies in your stomach. He has a bag in his hand, filled with the snacks he promised to bring.
"Aren't you gonna say hi? Did you even miss me?" He teases, loving the way you gently nod as he speaks, like you're ready to prove that you did in fact miss him.
"Hi, Toji," you say, a smile spreading on your lips when you become overly aware of his focus on you. "I missed you. Come in." You move aside and let him into your cozy home, a place he's all too familiar with. He steps out of his slides and leaves them behind next to a pair of your shoes, his gaze never leaving you as he waits for you to lock the door after you shut it.
"What's that, doll?" Toji asks, when you approach him with full hands. There's a soft smile on your lips and your eyes shine like the stars that speckle the sky, as you extend the neatly folded pair of pajamas towards him. You have the most precious look on your face, as if you're showing him one of your most prized possessions—something you're proud of.
"You don't have to wear them if you don't want to. I still have the receipt. I just thought it would be nice to wear matching pj's."
You're not asking for much. Toji knows this. This is nothing—you're not asking him for anything. All he can think as he takes in the adorable look on your face, is that it would be an absolutely disgusting, heinous crime, to deny you of something so simple, something that would make you so damn happy. He can't bring himself to destroy you like that. In doing that, he would be chipping his own heart.
"What are you talking about? Let me see them," he says, laying his hands out for you to place the clothes on. You carefully place them in his hands and watch as he unfolds the articles. You don't know what he's thinking as he inspects the shirt, but the hum he lets out is nerve wracking. The shirt's design is minimalistic. It's a black t-shirt with three little stars on the left side of the chest and a small crescent moon on the back, a few inches beneath the collar, and then the bottoms are in the same plaid style as yours, just dark green instead of red.
"Is this why you asked for my clothing sizes a couple days ago?" He asks, pulling down his pants out of nowhere. You can't even try to hold back your laugh as you look away after getting a glimpse of his boxers, the sound just slips out. "What are you laughing at? Nothing you haven't seen before," he says, grinning amusedly at your giggles.
He unfolds the comfy pair of pants and slides them on. Immediately after, his shirt comes off, and it's as if he wants you to notice—to ogle him—because he takes his sweet time getting the new shirt on. He catches your eyes trailing down his torso, and then, he hears it, the flustered giggle that tumbles off your lips, the sweet sound he was waiting on. He smirks as he puts the new shirt on, and once again waits for your reaction. The shirt is a thicker material and fits perfectly, so do the pants. You're now matching, just like you wanted.
"How do I look?" Toji asks, doing a simple hands in his pockets pose.
"Handsome and comfy," you respond, warmth reaching your face as you take in the sight.
"Yeah? You think so?" He asks as he picks up his previous outfit and drops it on the arm of your couch. He hears your affirmative hum and catches your little nod as he steps towards you.
"Hey, where's my kiss?" He asks, a sly little smirk curling his lips. His hands rest on your lower back, gently pulling you closer. "I've been waiting hours and hours," he murmurs, green eyes absorbing the pretty smile that begins to form on your lips. "I want my reward."
You know that it won't be just a quick kiss with Toji, but still, you stand on your tippy toes and tilt your head upwards, waiting for Toji to meet you. He leans down, holding eye contact with you, as his lips come closer and closer. Once his nose is right next to yours and you feel his lips ghosting yours, he stops. He just loves the way you can't hide your fluster and how whenever you can't take it anymore, you resort to something you should have some sort of award for, by now—giggling.
"You're precious, ma," he says, his voice low. Dark eyes scan and re-memorize, for the nth time, every inch of your joyful expression, before finally he leans in the rest of the way, closing the distance between you and him.
His hands grip the back of your shirt as he feeds off your soft lips. Kiss after kiss, each one gentle and patient, demonstrating how much he truly longed for you. You feel butterflies in your stomach when you focus on the warmth of his body pressed against you and the way his lips chase yours for another kiss when you think he's finally going to pull away. His hands dip beneath your shirt to feel the bare, soft, and warm skin of your back. The simple touch is enough to spread goosebumps all over you.
The final kiss is long. Your lips lock, but Toji stops there, not going with the usual synchronized flow of the previous kisses, and when you don't expect it, he lets out deep hum and releases your lips with a more audible smack. He gives you a dumb grin in response to the stars that returned to your eyes.
"Do the thing, baby," he says, rubbing your back while he waits for you to snap out of your minor daze. He stays in the same slightly leaned position and waits for the softness of your lips to meet his skin. You press a kiss onto the smooth scar on the corner of his lips for an equal amount of time as the long kiss you shared before and smile softly when you pull away, your feet flat on the ground, again.
His hands come out of your shirt and he grins at how bashful you've become, despite the amount of times you've done this. You wouldn't immediately know what "do the thing" means, if you weren't so accustomed to doing it.
"Got your favorites," he says, nodding towards the bag he set down on your couch. "Did you keep up with your end of the deal?" He jokes, expecting a proud nod from you, because you've never let him down.
"Lemon-lime or Cool Blue Gatorade, right?" You ask, walking towards the kitchen.
"That's right, doll," he confirms, following behind you.
After the wine incident, he chooses to stay sober with you. It's not that he doesn't want to experience drinking with you and see you be more laid back and playful, it's the fact that he knows that that version of you is altered by alcohol. Sober you isn't that way, and while he loves every version of you, your natural way of being is his favorite.
He could spend hours flustering and teasing you, watching the way you coil in on yourself when he stares at you for too long. Feeling the way your body melts against his when he holds you is one of his favorite things. He likes being able to coax you into voicing your thoughts, wants, and needs. Maybe you're a little more honest about deeper matters when you're inebriated, but Toji is smart enough to know that it's practically involuntary. It's like your secrets are being spilled without your permission and while he's glad to know these things in the moment, he would rather hear them from you when you aren't drunk.
"I got you both. I didn't know which you liked more, so I just got both of them," you say, grabbing them off one of the shelves in your fridge. You turn and hand the cold drinks to Toji before going back to grab the one you got for yourself. You step back and shut the fridge door, smiling at him when he just stares at you.
"What?" You question.
He doesn't say anything for a few seconds. Just silently observes you standing in your small kitchen, in comfy, baggy pajamas that match his own. You're shifting on your feet, under his gaze, waiting for a response, but the response that he has in mind is a little too much for the lightness of the night. Something about wanting to spend the rest of his life with you, something about coming home to you every day, something about putting a shiny rock on your finger. Something big, because his feelings for you are big.
"Nothing, ma," he says, tucking both juice bottles between his forearm and his side, so that he can rest his hand on the back of your neck as you walk back out to the living room. You grab the bag of snacks off the couch and head to your bedroom together.
You set the bag of snacks on the bed and sit down on your side. Toji has a designated side on your bed, which is, of course, the other side.
"Light on or off?" Toji asks, shutting the door.
"Off?" You say, with a questioning tone, leaving room for him to object. Shortly after, the room goes dark. Only your TV, which sits idly on its home screen, creates light that illuminates the walls. Toji walks around your bed and settles into his side.
"What are we watching, this time?" He asks, reaching for the pack of sour gummy bears.
"It's your turn to choose," you say, offering the remote to him. "Last time we watched a bunch of Disney movies. I don't know if you wanna do that again," you say, smiling sheepishly.
"You doubt your taste in things too much, ma. Those Toy Story movies were pretty good. Show me another one of your favorites."
"Alright," you say, in compliance. You go to the Disney+ application and search for another favorite. Nothing too sing song-y, because you feel like you're on thin ice already in playing these animated movies for him. You got away with Jessie singing "When She Loved Me" in Toy Story 2, because even he thought the poor cowgirl got a rough deal when she was abandoned.
"Ratatouille?" He reads. "What's that about?"
"We're about to watch it," you say, briefly turning over and smiling.
He hums as he looks over the caption beneath the title that explains the synopsis of the movie.
"The rat's gonna cook? This should be interesting."
Lo and behold, he's hooked. Neither of you has made a peep and you're both mindlessly snacking on candy and chips, sipping on Gatorade, while watching the crazy things in this rat's life unfold. Him and his brother survived being struck by lightning and being shot at by an old lady with a shotgun. That part seemed to amuse Toji plenty.
Towards the end of the movie, Toji turns to you with sour sugar unknowingly speckled on his lips from the candy he's been feasting on, and leans in to press kisses to your temple and cheek.
"Watch," you say, smiling at the softness that meets your skin.
"I'm watching," he murmurs, continuing on with his sticky kisses.
"Look, they're stealing food from the kitchen," you explain, shocked despite already knowing what's going to happen.
"Mm," Toji hums, seemingly interested, but continuing on with his affectionate, sugary pecks.
"Look, you're gonna miss it," you say, giggling as you gently push his face away. It completely backfires on you, because he just grabs your wrist, and pulls your hand down to continue on with his kisses.
"Come here," he says, hooking an arm around your waist and pulling you so that you're sitting right beside him, your thigh touching his and your shoulder pressed into his side. With a few more pecks to your cheek and a couple to the top of your head, he faces forward and continues watching the movie.
"Damn, they got shut down?" He says, in disbelief.
"Mhm," you hum in response, unable to answer verbally due to the chips in your mouth.
"Oh shit, they're back," Toji says, taking in the remainder of the movie. "And Remy cooks without controlling Spaghetti?"
"Linguini," you correct, with a laugh. "But yeah. Linguini's a waiter, now, and Remy's a chef."
The artistic end credits begin to appear and you turn to look at Toji.
"So... what did you think?" You ask.
"That had more action than The Terminator," he jokes. "The old lady with the shotgun was trying take out Remy and his brother and then she tried to hit the entire colony of rats with gas."
You giggle as he goes in depth of what he remembers, as if to prove to you that he was watching.
"I liked that one too," he says, with a smirk. "Would definitely watch it, again."
"Good," you chirp, internally proud that you were able to show him something good. "Your turn," you say, offering him the remote.
"You go again," he says, grabbing another sour gummy to dodge the remote.
"Toji," you mumble. "You should choose something you like. I wouldn't mind watching something new, too."
In truth, Toji doesn't want to watch explosive, gore infested, action movies when he's with you. It's the only genre he's thoroughly explored apart from some comedy, so he leaves you to do the choosing of the movies and shows you watch together. It's a great way for him to give new things a chance, because even though it seems like he's always the one showing you how and loosening the tight grip you have on the shell that obscures you, he's constantly learning from you, as well.
"How 'bout this, baby... If you choose the next one, i'll choose the next three," he offers, squeezing the plush of your thigh.
"You promise?" You say, eyes darting from where his enormous hand rests on your leg, to his face.
"'Course. I don't lie to you," he says.
"Okay, then," you say, moving onto a different platform to find another movie.
"While I wait..." he mumbles, a soft smile curling on his lips. His hand moves from your thigh to your waist as he wraps his arm around you. He goes back to kissing the side of your face, soft, wet little smooches planted along your cheek and your jaw.
"Gorgeous girl," he hums, his voice a soft breath against your skin. "I'm dying to kiss those pretty lips."
Your lips curl as you continue skimming through the section of recommended movies. You can feel his eyes on you, tracing over the features of your face.
"Just a quick one and then i'll stop bugging you," he requests. "Please? You're teasing me without even trying."
"But I'm not even doing anything," you argue, with a small laugh.
"That's what i'm saying," he says, in agreement. "You're not even trying. You're just pretty like that. Makes me wanna kiss you 'til you can't breathe."
"What? You said a quick one, just a few seconds ago," you remind, your smile widening at the way he changed his mind about wanting the minimum of your affection.
"Yeah, but you know how greedy I am about you, mama. I want more and more of you, all the time." His gaze flits between your coy smile and the softness that lingers in your eyes. You haven't paused your skimming of the movies, but he knows you're staring at the screen, mindlessly, feeling his attention. "You want me to beg?"
"No," you instantly respond. It's the one thing you never allow him to do. He's too good to you, for you to make him beg. "You don't have to do that."
"So, kiss me, sweetheart," he says, shifting positions so that he's lying down on his side. He pats the pillow that cushions your lower back, signaling for you to lie down. Like the obedient thing you are for him, you click play on the random movie you landed on and set the remote aside, before lying down on your side, facing Toji.
"What movie did you decide on?" He asks, dragging his knuckles tenderly over your cheek.
"I didn't look at the name," you answer, softly.
"We can skip the intro, right?" He murmurs, smirking when he feels the warmth that reaches your face beneath his palm. His thumb strokes the skin of your cheek, back and forth as he keeps up with your gaze, even when it derails from his due to the tension in the moment.
"Mhm," you hum.
"Come here," he instructs, his voice low, almost a whisper. His leg goes between your legs, just sitting there to achieve more physical contact with you. It doesn't go further than the desire to be innocently caught up in you and feel you pressed against him.
The first kisses—if they can even be called that—are tentative and teasing. Lips merely ghosting each other, barely grasping contact. It's enough to have your heart thudding rapidly in your chest. You hear a warm, rumbled chuckle coming from Toji.
"Closer," Toji hums, his hand splaying on your back and pushing you forward into him.
Finally, your lips connect. The feeling is warm, like you're being held, securely, without any intention of being released. The sound of the movie in the background is a mere whir, unheard through the imaginary force field created around you and Toji. It's just you and him, close as can be, living like nothing else matters as long as you have this love. Through gentle caresses, one unsteady heartbeat and an even unsteadier one, things are good.
Toji swears he will never feel this content and at peace anywhere else. You have a way of making him feel like he is everything. The way your eyes twinkle when you see him, the way you bare your soul to him every time you smile—it's love. It's pure, unadulterated love. He's your friend, your lover, your confidant, and he will never settle for being anything less than those things.
With one more brush of your lips, you both put the kissing on hold and lay there, just a little bit breathless. His hand rests on your lower back, playing with the hem of your shirt.
"I love you so fucking much, doll. You know that?" He murmurs, his attention bouncing between your lips that won't stop calling for him to kiss them and the warmth in your eyes. "Fridays aren't just another day, anymore. Same for every day I get to see you or even just talk to you on the phone if we can't be together." A soft sigh escapes his nose, followed by a very brief pause. "You just know how to make things better, and I wish you would believe it because you feel that way too, not just because i'm telling you."
"I'm sorry," you mumble.
"No. I don't want that, baby. Tell me something else."
"I love you, Toji," you say, ensuring that you speak clearly so that he gets the important words you need him to hear. "I like being around you. You'll never know just how safe you make me feel, but I do want you to know that it goes past the physical aspect."
He smiles, the expression soft, not telling of the giddiness that just spread throughout his body. A soft hum, followed by a somewhat frustrated sounding groan, precedes you being pulled into his tight embrace. You can't help the giggles that eventually evolve into laughter that just spills from you when he bombards your face with kisses. His lips press against your cheeks, the tip of your nose, the corners of your lips before he actually leaves a rapid barrage of pecks on your lips. Deep chuckles slip through his affectionate assault when you plant your hand on his chest, weakly pushing at him through the joyous sound of your laugh.
"T-Toji!" You squeal, your entire body shaking through your nonstop laughter. Despite it being nighttime, Toji feels like he's kissing and cuddling with the sun. His cheeks almost hurt from smiling so much.
With one final, elongated kiss to your forehead, he relents and lets you catch your breath. Soft giggles continue to flow past your lips as you work on composing yourself.
"You drive me crazy, doll," he says, grinning at how your chest still slightly heaves. He could do this every night with you, in a shared bed, that is in your shared bedroom, in your shared home.
"Alright, let's see what this movie's about," he mutters, flipping onto his back. "Come here." By now, the two words are a staple to Toji's conversations with you, because he always wants you attached to him. He outstretches his arm, and waits for you to scooch over and lay your head on his chest. Once you settle in, his arm wraps around you, tightly.
As you both try to catch up on what is going on in the movie, you realize none of it is making sense. You think it might be futile to try and understand what is happening when it may have been explained during the intro, but neither you nor Toji mind it, and just continue watching through the confusion, because the intro to this movie was never going to be as good as the moment you shared during it.

expecting you // shouto todoroki
a/n: based on a thought i had a couple weeks ago about shouto falling for one of touya's nurses <3 smau at the end bc i cannot resist hehe -> literally geeeekingggggg
shouto is quick to catch onto patterns as well as fall into them. it's one of those things that had been ingrained in him from a young age that he can't seem to shake off now as an adult.
"observe, figure them out, know their next move. c'mon shouto. get up."
he has the bus times memorized and recognizes the faces of the people waiting with him. he remembers and greets everyone working the midday shift at his favorite soba shop. he's apart of their routine as much as they are to him, so of course they'll already have his usual order ready as soon as he comes in. they always pack extra, but he knows better than to argue, so instead, he lets them send him off with a "see you next week" and a reminder to "make sure touya eats it all so he can get big and strong."
it's always a fifteen minute walk from the soba shop to the rehab facility, and he doesn't bother checking in at the front anymore. he nods a hello to the security guard and goes straight to touya's room.
this has been his weekly routine for the past five years.
shouto's eyes zero in on the glossy checkerboard pattern of the facility's floors.
white. blue. white. blue.
he knows it takes him about fifteen of each to get to touya's room at the end of the hall, but he counts in his head every time.
from outside of his door, he hears your exaggerated groan that if the door was open, he was sure it would've echoed down the hallway.
"no, you don't get it," you huff, "it's the favoritism. that's why sensei won't write me a recommendation letter."
"you're probably right. you are kinda annoying," touya responds.
it takes shouto a long time, a year at least, to hear anything but venom in his brother's voice. right now, he didn't have to see touya to know that he had a smirk on his face with that delivery.
you just had that effect on people.
as if on cue, your voice rang "shouto should be here by now," right as he clicks the door open.
"and there he is," you quip, "another minute and i would've called the cops."
"can't i ever be a little unpredictable?" shouto scoffs with a slight smile.
such a hypocrite.
he expected that eye roll. he knew you would shrug and cross your arms across your chest. it's comforting in a way, to know someone so intimately just from observation and fleeting conversations, because even though you're teasing him about his strict routine, you don't even realize how predictable you are.
while shouto sets the takeout on the counter to unpack its contents, you grab the arms of the chair and push yourself up onto your feet.
"alright, you guys have a good lunch. i'll stop by and say bye before i leave for the-"
touya groans and cuts you off, "you do this shit every week, stupid, sit down and eat with us."
"no, because if i sit here and eat with you guys, you're going to talk and talk and talk and not get any rest before group therapy."
touya deadpans.
"does it looks like i need a fucking nap before spending an hour listening to some losers vent about their lives?"
"yes?" you cock an eyebrow "aren't you pushing thirty? the elderly need their sleep don't they?"
"says the twenty something with no social life." touya bites back.
a dramatic gasp leaves your mouth.
"shou, listen to what your brother is saying to me." you jokingly whine.
"don't get me involved," he shoots you a playful side glance, "you're having lunch with us. for the sake of your social life."
"shut up." you mutter, the corners of your mouth quirking into a shy smile. he waits until you sit back down in your seat before holding out a bowl of soba for you to take.
"i have to argue with you about it, but when he offers, you don't say shit?" touya complains with a mouthful of soba.
"duh? why would i listen to your rude ass when shou's so sweet?"
shouto bites back a smile and takes a seat at the end of touya's bed, scooping a mouth full of noodles in his mouth, watching you do the same.
"y/n, did you even pack a lunch for yourself today?" shouto starts after finishing his bite, "or do you love having us beg for you to stay and eat?"
you're quiet for a moment, sucking in your cheek to suppress the sheepish grin and defeated chuckle that would eventually break through.
your eyes trail up from your bowl of soba to lock shouto's, hoping that the heat crawling up your neck hasn't blossomed across your cheeks.
he doesn't look away, but instead cocks an eyebrow with a sly smile. he already knows the answer.
-
shouto leaned against the doorframe waiting for you to complete the last of touya's update forms before clocking out for the day.
"someone's gonna take over for me and take you to therapy in a few, okay?" you say, scribbling in the last few notes.
"the cute one?" touya asks.
"mmmmm no, i don't think she's working today."
touya groans, "fuck my life."
"down bad." you announce, receiving an unsavory gesture from touya's prosthetic hand as you pretend to make a note of it on the clipboard.
you tuck the board under your arm, collecting the various papers and notebooks sprawled out on the counter before shoving them into your school bag.
"see you in a couple days. cross your fingers for this recommendation letter." you take one last scan around the room.
"offer still on the table if you want me to forge one for ya."
"how generous. i'll let you know when i get desperate." you laugh.
shouto holds the door open with his back, raising a hand to say his goodbyes.
"see you next week, touya. maybe this weekend with natsuo and the kids."
"see ya. walk y/n to their car alright? your daddy didn't raise an animal."
shouto rolls his eyes with a half-hearted chuckle, looking back one last time to nod a goodbye before the door closes behind you two.
"the cute one is in fact working today." you say with a proud smile once you've skipped further away from the room.
“oh?” shouto quickens his step to catch up beside you, “why lie then?”
“just setting him up to feel a lot of excitement later,” you shrug. “i think being a long-term patient and living the same days and routine over and over again can feel kinda gray and muddy, so it’s nice to be surprised every now and then don’t you think?”
rei’s face flashes in shouto’s mind for a moment and he thinks back on the first time he visited her in that old living facility. unlike her during that time, touya still has a gleam in his eyes- a faint spark despite all of these years.
“y/n.” shouto says after a moment of silence, pausing in the middle of the hallway.
“hm?”
you stop and turn back to see him bowed at a proper 90 degree angle with his hands flush against his sides.
your eyes widen, “shou? what are you-”
“thank you for taking care of my brother, thank you for being a friend to him...” he trails, “...and to me.”
shouto didn’t know when would be an appropriate time to straighten up. he stared down at the white and blue tiles at his feet as he silently prayed for the heat prickling the tip of his ears to dissipate before coming face to face with you again.
“you’re being silly,” you break the tension with a breathy chuckle.
shouto snaps back up, the apple of his cheeks flushed from the blood pooling to his face.
“i’m not. i need you to know that i’m grateful.”
“you don’t have to thank me, shou,” you continue your walk back to the nurse’s station with shouto following close behind “i hardly do anything- i’m not even a nurse, you know? not yet at least. i think it’s funny that i got hired on because of your stubborn ass brother, but even if i wasn’t tied to a payroll, i’d still be here. you guys are my friends too.”
you keep your pace quick- always one step in front of him with your head hung low. there wasn’t much you could do to mask your blush. your face was burning hot, and this hallway was only so long.
“well, if you’re not going to accept my thanks, then let me treat you to lunch.” he leans against the counter as you round the corner behind the desk.
“you treat me to lunch every week,” you laugh.
“it would just be you and me.”
your fingers pause over the keyboard as you’re typing in your employee code. you look up from the screen and meet his eyes with your smile faltered and mouth slightly gaped open.
“just you and me?” you repeat.
he nonchalantly nodded his head as his hands were sweating through the front pockets of his pants.
shouto had gone out one on one with classmates and friends before, and he was sure that an outing with you would be like any other dinner, but there was a twinge of anxiety sitting in his chest as he waited for your answer.
i think something’s wrong.
well thank god i’m surrounded by nurses…and you.
“i mean, if he wants, we can put in a day pass request for touya and invite the other siblings. i just thought…” shouto sheepishly scratches the back of his neck, not quite sure what it was that he thought. “...that we…i…”
a year ago when you were just a student looking for volunteer hours, touya gave you an in-depth run down of each family member “just for when you have the misfortune of meeting them. don’t fall in love, alright? mr. perfect has that effect on people.”
it wasn't until now, with shouto's flushed cheeks, chewed bottom lip, and avoidant eyes that you understood what his brother had meant.
you’ve never seen the todoroki’s golden child, as touya liked to describe him, stumble over his own words before. you watch him pause for a moment to search for the right words, panic settling in behind his gaze as his eyes flicker between his twitching fingers tapping against the counter and your own.
“you and me, then.” you confirm, breaking the silence as the corners of your mouth lift into a shy smile.
“yeah?” he says with a sigh of relief.
you reach over, pulling a pen out from its holder and lean over the computer. you click the pen and grab shouto’s hand before scribbling your number in the soft flesh of his palm.
xx - xxxx - xxxx -> y/n :P
“also, my classmate’s picking me up today for a study session, but to keep touya’s word, i’ll make you walk me to my car next week,” you wave shouto off with a wide grin as you begin to walk backwards towards the exit, “text me, okay?”
shouto glances down at the numbers adorning his palm, still feeling the point of the pen digging into his skin. he looks back up at you. his mouth is slightly gaped open, but nothing comes out. with the same palm, he holds it up, waving you goodbye until the automatic doors close behind you.
you turn around one last time to see shouto walking off in the opposite direction towards the other exit with his palm held out in front of him and his phone in the other, making sure to have your number saved before the ink smudges away.
“so predictable.”

Which hughes do you think would be into the weirdest kink?
[18+]
I think most people have got something deep down, personally, whether they know it or not (doesn't have to be extreme either). So, I wouldn't say weirdest bc I don't want anyone feeling kink shamed, so we'll say the kink they keep the most quiet (under cut):
Quinn | He's a quiet guy in general, but he has thoughts of e-stim running through his mind a lot. He's used it before for recovery treatment, but he can't help but imagine how you'd squirm and whine if he stuck the patches to your most sensitive areas, gradually increasing the voltage to coax an orgasm out of you. Quinn's openly been the number one appreciator of your tits, never failing to hear you moan out and tangle your fingers in his hair, pushing his head into you. He excels in making sure they get the attention they deserve but too often while sucking them pink he's imagined you lactating on to his tongue. He's a curious guy, enjoys learning, and there's only one way he'll find out how you taste. But the one he keeps quiet the most, is rubbing one out as he cucks you. The condition is that he gets a little say in who, he's a possessive guy, and loves you dearly and what his lover wants, his lover gets so if you were to ever bring up the subject of helping someone out or inviting someone to join, he'd be more than happy to watch you wail out amused moans, getting the temporary satisfaction you desire. After all, he'd just make sure to fuck you better to erase all trace of the other person, it's not like you'd pick anyone over him anyway.
Jack | Gives the vibes that he's had a few roleplay fantasies. It's less about the scenario - he doesn't mind if he's slamming his cock into a maid or being sucked dry by a nurse - and more about the little outfits you'd wear, those skimpy ones that don't hide much, those little skirts that let your panties peek out, tops that can easily but pulled on to free your tits. As long as the allusion's there, he's getting harder by the second. Speaking of fantasies, best know that when he's chewing on that hockey glove of his, it's because he's thinking about fucking you with his gear. He can't explain it, but the thought of you tainting his gear with your cum, your scent and coaching you through adapting to the size has him aching and palming his dick. Whether it's the finger of his glove and rubbing your clit over his stick and wiping you clean with his jersey, there's something about the possession of it he can't get out of his head. His last, most unspoken kink is how deep down, degradation gives him some of the best orgasms of his life. He loves to be praised and thrives off you cry about how good he makes you feel, but calling him pathetic and saying that he could do better really gets his adrenaline going and cock hardening. Degrading him gives him something to prove, which means he'll work twice as hard to get you there.
Luke | He's not got a lot to hide, he'll either admit it or wait for you to bring it up and agree. Luke? Secrets? Barely. Yet, he's oddly quiet when it comes to receiving breast play. He loves your tits, loves his mouth smothering them, but something he's been wondering is what it would feel like if you sucked his, groped him, flicked your tongue over and pinches his nipples until his body was tingling down to his core. His cock twitches whenever you touch his chest anyway, it's sensitive and you have a touch that makes his breath hitch so maybe one day you'll have your lips wrapped around his peak, sucking and swirling until they're swollen pink, fingers rolling his nipples as you're sliding along his cock. Being a hockey player comes with long roadies, sometimes too long for him to cope and there are definitely nights where he sits in his hotel room, fisting his cock and imagining it's your hand which is where he wishes he could confess his thoughts of filming to you. He knows is a concept built on trust and comfort, but his stomach flips at the thought of watching a video of himself disappearing inside of your pussy, your voice blaring through his headphones whining and moaning out his name on a loop as he gives his cock broad strokes just as you do it. He thinks he'd feel more at home listening to your orgasm, watching himself rub his tip through your folds and cum inside you.

*Vil, Kalim, Idia, and Azul, along with MC, Crowley, the other teachers, and the vice dorm leaders, were waiting in front of the Dark Mirror, hoping for Riddle, Malleus, and Leona's safe return.*
Lilia: What's taking them so long?
Crowley: *has a serious expression*
Professor Trein: The Dark Mirror has located them, and they are indeed on the other side, but something is preventing them from passing through.
Crowley: ...
MC: Can't Malleus and the others handle that?
Vil: Potato, we are powerless in that world; that's why we needed your doppelganger's help to get us out.
Azul: Unfortunately, they were caught the last time they assisted Vil and me. They’re probably in a really difficult position at the moment.
Kalim: E-Even so! I'm sure MC(?) has plans!
Idia: You could say that. We’ve been trying for the past few days, and finally, the Dark Mirror has located them.
MC: *approaches the Dark Mirror and turns around to face them*
MC: Isn’t there any way for us to find out what’s happening on the other side?
*The eyes of the people in front of them widened as they saw pairs of arms sneaking behind the Prefect, attempting to grab them.*
Azul: *is just in time to yank them out of the arms' reach*
MC: ...
MC: What are those...?
Crowley: *uses his whip to lash at the arms, forcing them to retreat*
Crowley: Everyone! Keep your distance from the Dark Mirror!
Riddle: Professor Trein, how much longer do we have to wait?
Professor Trein(?): ...
Riddle: Professor Trein?
Leona: He's gone.
Riddle: ...
Malleus: ...
Leona: Oi, lizard, have you heard anything useful?
Malleus: *listens intently for any sounds coming from outside the door, now that the noises and cries have finally stopped*
Malleus: ...
Malleus: I can't hear them anymore, but I can sense a presence outside.
Riddle: Is it the Prefect's?
Malleus: ...
*Then a soft knock was heard.*
MC(?): I apologize for the wait… You can come out now…
Riddle, Leona, and Malleus: ...
Leona: How can we trust your words?
Malleus(?): You should—while my precious one can still talk.
*The door opened on its own, and on the other side stood Malleus(?) with MC(?) wrapped in his arms.*
Malleus(?): *smiles* Thank you. It's been a while since I've seen any emotion from them.
MC(?): *their eyes look lifeless*
Malleus: ...
Malleus: What did you do?
Malleus(?): Hmm... It would have been more fun if we had managed to get the other one from the other side of the mirror *not answering the question*. Unfortunately, my friends were too slow.
Malleus(?): *chuckles* Anyway, it doesn't matter. Your journey ends here. I'm allowing you to leave.
Riddle and Leona: *glance at MC(?)*
MC(?): ...
MC(?): *smiles softly*
Malleus(?): A new world awaits us, my precious. *then disappears with them*
Malleus, Riddle, and Leona: ...
*Back in the Mirror Room, everyone let out a sigh of relief when the attacks stopped. However, some were still unnerved—especially by the fact that the attackers all seemed intent on capturing the Prefect.*
Kalim: MC, are you alright?
MC: Yes. Thanks for protecting me.
*The Dark Mirror glowed, and Leona, Malleus, and Riddle finally appeared, all looking visibly distraught.*
Lilia: Malleus-!
Trey: Riddle!
Ruggie: Leona!
Riddle: *couldn't help but break down into tears*
Trey: *has approached him* It's okay now, Riddle...
Lilia: Malleus! How are you feeling?!
Malleus: ...
Malleus: The child of man... Where are they?
MC: Hornton! I'm here! *rushes to him*
Malleus: *gently embraced them* I'm sorry... Please forgive me...
Leona: ...
Leona: Hey, we still have the keys.
Crowley: I'm afraid you can't keep them. You must return them to the mirror to sever any remaining connection.
Malleus, Riddle, and Leona: ...
Leona: *sigh* I want to go back to my dorm and sleep. *throws his*
Riddle: *hands his to Trey to do it for him*
Malleus: ...
MC: Hornton?
Malleus: ...
MC: ...
MC: I don’t know what happened, but… if my other self saved all of you, then… I’m sure they feel no regrets.
Malleus: ...
Malleus: *nods and finally lets go of his key*
Malleus(?): My precious, you feel warm... just like you used to.
MC(?): *their lifeless body cradled in his arms*
Malleus(?): *smiles, looks lovingly at them*
Malleus(?): At last, we've created a world where it's just the two of us.

wroetoshaw posted a new story!
When the race began, the stadium erupted with cheers and whistles. Everyone watched as you and the other drivers sat in your cars and raced around the track. Harry sat nervously by himself, which is something he always did since he was too focused on what you were doing to talk to anyone.
It all happened so fast. There was a loud boom on part of the track that wasn't far from the starting point. Harry stood up quickly, his head whipping around to see where the sound came from.
"It looks like that's y/n y/l/n in the barracks!" The intercom system rang out. Harry's heart stopped. "No," he whispered under his breath, voice cracking, "please..."
There was fire, smoke and silence. Everyone was patiently waiting to hear if you were okay, though, Harry... not so patient.
"She's out! Don't worry folks, as usual she'll be escorted to a hospital but she looks to be alright!" Harry practically fell back into his chair. He'd never been so terrified in his life.
Harry immediately found his way out and left the race. The f1 team had quickly organised a car to take him to the hospital, which he was grateful for. His knee was bopping and his hands were sweating throughout the entire drive.
When they pulled up there was press outside and as soon as he got out of the car he was practically swarmed. Some of the hospitals security pushed them back, so he could get into the hospital.
The staff already knew who he was here to see, though they still double checked his name. "She's right this way," one of the older staff said as she lead him through the hallway.
When he got to your door he took a deep breath before opening it. The doctor was just leaving after fully examining you. "Hi," you whispered as he approached, your voice slightly horse.
He rushed over and sat by your side. Before he could say anything you told him what he was desperate to know. "I'm okay," you said calmly. He let out a relieved breath. "A little sore and stink of smoke but fine otherwise. Sorry for scaring you love."
He leaned in and pressed a gentle kiss to your forehead and then one to your lips. "Jesus. I love you," he whispered, eyes glossy. "I love you too Haz."

y/username: thank you all so much for the kind messages. I'm okay, just a little bruised up, and am spending my time resting up so I can get back on the track! I'll see you soon🤍

LionessesXDeafReader)

Warning: deaf reader
A/N : when i Put something in ' ' it means it's signed
Summary: you get called up for your first England Camp and people are not taking it well. the fact that you are Keira Walsh's Baby sister doesn't make it any either. And you start doubting If you even should be there.
You sit on a bean bag in the gaming/TV room at England Camp. It was just the first day. The comments you have read so far were mostly great and supportive under the Team list of who made the cut. But then you read comments about yourself. Lots of mean ones including:
'how is she supposed to win us anything? she can't even hear instructions!'
'she is only on the team cause of Keira. she must have put a good word in for y/n.'
'her on the Team feels like a charity case!'
There were lots more of those comments. Which only made your self doubt become worse. Even though if it was just a first full day everyone had noticed that you were acting distant. Especially towards your sister & on top of that Grace. Your girlfriend. You just wanted to focus on football. Deep down you knew you were able to play at this level. You were one of the Star Players at Arsenal. Yes you and your sister played for two different teams. So did you and your girlfriend. But your best friend Alessia was playing for Arsenal with you. While your girlfriend Grace was playing with your other best friend Tooney. If you weren't any good Sarina wouldn't have called you up to play for the lionesses. But still theres a part of you hurt by people thinking just because you were deaf that you couldn't do your job. In the last five games for Arsenal you scored 7 Goals. That alone was saying alot. Yet there were still people wanting to bring you down.
'you are avoiding me!' you see your girlfriend sign, she showed up out of nowhere so you put your phone away.
'i am not!' you look at her and frown.
'you are! you are also avoiding Keira, Less & Tooney. And basically everyone!' she was clearly concerned.
'grace i am fine. just let it go.'
The fact that you didn't use a cute pet name for her was confirmation enough that something was totally not right.
Less and Tooney were also in the room, looking over at the two of you. they knew something was up as soon as you said you didn't want to play cards with them. And the discussion you had with Grace only confirmed that for them as well.
At the same time with Keira, Leah and Lucy...
"Keira, i think i know why your sister is keeping to herself." Lucy told her. Handing her Phone over to her. Showing the comments under the Squad post that are related to you.
"that's nasty!" Leah said, after Keira wordlessly showed them to her.
"i hope she knows that this Is crap. Nothing about this Is true!" Keira stated.
"well you should try and talk to her about that." Lucy replied.
'yeah either you do it or i will. If we wait for too long she is gonna Spiral!" Your England Captain and Arsenal teammate said.
"i will talk to her, don't worry about it." Keira let them know and then went to look for you.
She found you and Grace still arguing. Looking over at Less & Tooney.
"what is this about?" Keira asked your two best friends.
"y/n is claiming how fine things are and that she is not avoiding anyone! Even though we all know she is!" Tooney stated.
"they going back and forth now for almost 20 minutes!" Alessia explained.
"i want to know why she is avoiding us." Tooney stated and Keira grabbed her own Phone to show her and Lessi.
"Lucy thinks this might be the reason and honestly i think so too!" Keira let them know.
"oh my god. This Is terrible. And not true! She deserves to be here!" Alessia stated.
"which is why i will talk to her now." Your sister answered.
The Talk with Grace has gotten to a point where you both have gotten frustrated with one another that you stood up and wanted to race past your sister but Keira quickly grabbed your hand.
'stay. We need to Talk.'
'no we don't!'
'you do need to start letting us in on what's happening.' Alessia looked at you. Worry written across her face.
'fine. what do you want to know?'
'why you are acting this way. You avoiding us is not normal.'
'i don't belong here.'
'so it's about the comments!' Keira let out a soft sigh. Grace now standing next to you.
'what comments?' she wanted to know. Keira showing her the comments. Grace looked mad now.
'those comments are not true! you are amazing and you deserve this place in the Team!' Grace let you know.
'deep down i know. but those comments still hurt. i just want to show them how wrong they are!'
'then let's do that!' Tooney smiled at you.
The team put out a Statement that there is no place for bullying in any form. And that people who are disrespectful towards the players, especially the Younger ones Like you (you were only 22 years old) shouldn't watch the games.
You could Show them what you are made of during a Game against Portugal were you scored two Goals during your debut which sure did shut up the haters. Getting praised by your teammates and Sarina.
You couldn't hear but your eyes were working perfectly fine.

apollo
Pairing: Aaron Hotchner x sunshine!reader Summary: Aaron thinks you're just about the most radiant person he's ever met. But then you fly too close to the sun, and all your light disappears. Warnings: grumpy x sunshine turned not sunshine, references to greek myth of icarus and the sun god helios, apollo lore, violence, mentions of reaper arc, heartbreak, complicated relationships, avoidance, unresolved trauma, feelings, hopeful ending Words: 4.8K
Masterlist | icarus (part 1) | helios (part 2)
a/n: this is the end! thank u for all the love! i love this series sm, and i'll prolly end up writing lil blurbs for it (esp at ur request). there's sm feelings in this one. enjoy!
"I need to leave, Y/N."
"Wait— wait, we can talk about this, can't we?" You stepped closer to her, distraught colouring your face. "We can get you help."
She shook her head, a sad smile crossing her face as if she was saying she knew you wouldn't understand. Poor, sweet Y/N, her eyes said. Too good for this world. Too naïve. Too hopeful. What she ended up saying was, "No, Y/N. I can't."
"I— I don't understand." Tears welled up in your eyes. Her words didn't make sense. None of it made sense.
The smile on her face never fell. Only a single tear did, racing down her cheek. It occurred to you then that you'd never seen her cry.
"Oh, Y/N/N." She grabbed your hand, squeezing it tightly. "I hope you never have to."
When she let go of your hand, you knew there was nothing more you could say. She was leaving, and there was absolutely nothing you could do about it.
But, deep down, you knew she'd already been long gone.
"Goodbye, Y/N."
And before you knew it, she was out the door, too far away to hear you whisper back.
"Goodbye, Elle."
When Elle left, you didn't understand it. As the only female profilers, you stuck together like glue. You both came from units where you were at the top of your game, just to be shuffled back down to the bottom, having to learn an entirely new competence.
You didn't get it. The work tore her away. The job took too much away from her, took too much out of her. But that was the job. But what about you?
She could walk away from the job, fine. But why did she walk away from you?
You didn't get it then. Too young. Too naïve. Too hopeful.
But now you were older. You knew too much. The hope had been sucked out of you.
You understood now.
You understood what it meant to not be able to take it anymore, to not be able to face the people you loved while knowing you weren't the same. And you wanted to. You desperately wanted things to go back to the way they were.
You wanted to go back to Rossi ruffling your hair, cracking jokes about your age but always knowing he took you seriously. You wanted to go back to lunch breaks with Penelope, talking about your nails and boys and feeling like a teenager. You wanted to back to laughing in Emily's apartment, her cat crawling across your lap. You wanted to go back to watching sci-fi movies with Reid, too convoluted to grasp. You wanted to go back to when Derek would tease you instead of treating you like you were made of glass. You wanted to go back to watching JJ's son without her wondering if you were in the state of mind to do it.
And Hotch.
Aaron.
You wanted to hit rewind to before everything happened, if not just to be at his side again. Before you tried to kiss him and before he pulled away. Before a serial killer decided he was God and your life was his to play with.
But you couldn't, and now you understood Elle better than you ever did. Because no matter how hard you tried, you couldn't be the same sunshine everyone loved.
You couldn't stay there anymore.
You submitted your resignation. You didn't know what happened next—you never thought further along than the BAU.
But you had to leave.
You understood now.
You wished you didn't.
—
The words echoed throughout your head on a loop.
Hotch. Accident. Hospital.
The Reaper.
If it hadn't been for Morgan, you would've jumped into that SUV and driven there immediately. But he stopped you, taking away the keys and regarding you with a soft but firm stance. You both knew it wasn't safe for you to drive.
You didn't talk about the reasons why.
Now, you sat to Aaron's left. He was sleeping. He'd never seemed so peaceful.
How ironic it was that he had to be stabbed before he took a break. Even if you knew it wasn't peaceful, not really.
A U.S. Marshal had just come and retrieved Jack and Haley, taking them to an undisclosed location. Their lives were upended. His life was upended.
Your fearless leader, stony and brave. He approached every challenge with determination, like he knew he could beat it. Aaron Hotchner was a man who won battles. But when you walked into that hospital room, for the first time since you met him, he looked afraid.
He looked like he'd already lost.
Your heart squeezed in your chest. It wasn't fair.
Suddenly, a mumble broke you out of your thoughts. "I can hear you thinking in my sleep."
You looked down, seeing him slowly open his eyes. You fixed him with a smile, even though it didn't feel right on your lips. Be brave, Y/N, your mind chided. He'd be brave for you. "Really? I can hear you thinking in your sleep."
His face remained blank, unfazed by your attempt to change the subject. He did that often—calling you out. Never maliciously, always with the greater good at heart. But he knew you. Sometimes, it felt like he knew you too well.
You wondered, did you know him as well as he knew you?
You liked to think so.
Like usual, you crumbled under his gaze, looking away. If you kept looking at him, nothing would stop the onslaught of tears from making their way down your face, and you wouldn't do that to him. You wouldn't cry; it wasn't your right to. You weren't his wife.
But you were something. Enough of something to feel the need to cry, anyway.
A shaky exhale left your lips. "Why do bad things always happen to good people?"
The room was silent after your question, the only sounds being his heart monitor and the shuffling of the hospital outside. The beeping felt like a taunt, a reminder that Aaron's life hung in the balance, that he could've died.
It made you realize that you weren't specific enough. What you really meant was, why did bad things always happen to him?
Aaron Hotchner. The leader. The father. A good man. The best man you'd ever met.
The man you'd fallen in love with.
When he responded, you could hear the despair in his voice, like he had the same questions.
But for once, he didn't have the answers.
"I don't know."
—
You didn't have to knock on Aaron's door long before he was opening it, having expected you. You grinned, holding up the brown bags in your hands. "I come bearing gifts. Chinese."
"You're a godsend," he praised, undoing his house alarm. You had helped him install it when he got out of the hospital, no questions asked.
While he did that, you placed the food on the table, going to grab some plates and drinks. This was the rhythm you'd settled into, a routine. You came over every other night under the guise of updating him with your cases, but really, it was a lot more than that for you.
You hoped it was for him, too.
You always brought food. Sometimes, he even cooked (it was edible). It was your way of making sure he ate.
You never talked about what happened. He never talked about Haley or Jack, even though you knew they were the only thing on his mind. You talked about work, and the weather, and what movies you were gonna be watching after dinner, but never anything that mattered.
You didn't need to. This, being here, mattered. You didn't need anything more than that.
You just wanted him to know he wasn't alone. No matter what happened, you'd always be there for him. This was your way of showing that.
After watching a movie you didn't pay much attention to, you stood at the door, shrugging on your coat. You were just about to leave when his hand enveloped your wrist, making you turn around.
Curiously, you stared up at him. "Hotch?" Your voice was soft, the kind of soft that came with fragile things. Fragile. Delicate. Valuable.
Aaron opened his mouth and then closed it again, looking like he knew exactly what he wanted to say without knowing how to say it. He could command a room with quiet confidence, negotiate with the most unstable unsubs and power-hungry police chiefs, and give a profile like no one you'd ever met. But when it came to his own emotions, he was at a loss for words.
You weren't used to seeing that. There was something about it. You didn't like watching him struggle, but some part of you was satisfied that you could make him pause. It made you think that, maybe, he thought about you the same way you thought about him.
Just maybe.
When he seemed to collect his thoughts, he spoke. "Thank you." He didn't take his eyes off you, making sure you knew how earnest he was.
Your breath got caught in your throat. The weight of his gaze told you everything else he wasn't saying. How this wasn't just a thank you for the food or the DVD. This was a thank you for everything.
But, in your eyes, he had nothing to thank you for.
So you smiled and said, "Don't mention it."
And you hoped he knew how earnest you were, too.
—
You awoke to loud pounding on your door. You remained motionless, hoping the person would get bored and go away, but the knocking persisted.
Glancing at your alarm clock, you groaned. It was far too early for anyone to be visiting you. Today, any time would be too early. But the knocking only continued, so with another groan, you rolled out of bed, throwing on a sweater in a hassle as you yelled, "I'm coming!"
You muttered curses to yourself all the way to the door, hastily unlocking it. When you finally threw it open, you were ready to give someone a piece of your mind, only to bet met with who you were least expecting.
Your mouth fell open slightly, all your curses dying on your tongue. And like you'd been doused in water, you suddenly felt wide awake.
On the other side of the threshold, Derek Morgan gave you a soft smile, his expression light while his eyes carried all the heavy things you thought you left at the BAU.
Now, all those things were at your doorstep.
"Hi, princess." He paused. "We have to talk."
—
You would've thought that, after all your time in the BAU, you would've gotten used to hospitals.
Apparently not.
As your eyelids fluttered open, you were disoriented, instantly closing them again at the sheer bright lights. The sound of feet shuffling came to your ears, followed by a flicking sound.
When you opened your eyes again, the lights were off, and Derek Morgan stood in front of you. He gave you his classic smile, but for some reason, it looked a little tighter than usual, a little bit harder to conceive.
What had happened? Why did he look so sad? Was he okay?
"D-Derek?" you croaked, interrupted by a cough.
Quick on his feet, he was soon passing you a glass of water, guiding the straw into your mouth. "Easy there, easy. There you go." He was tending to you like you were a sick child. You weren't sick. You weren't a child.
What happened? Why was he taking care of you? Why did you need to be taken care of?
When he removed the straw from your mouth, you repeated your question. "Derek, what's wrong?"
He looked like he didn't want to answer you. Instead, he countered, "Y/N, do you remember what happened?"
As if his question singlehandedly opened pandora's box, pain suddenly radiated from your lower body, aching all over.
Your brain caught up with your body, and then the pain intensified.
You shakily exhaled. "Yes."
Derek exhaled, too, but his looked more like relief than anything. Relief that he wouldn't have to explain this to you. Relief that he wouldn't have to say the words out loud.
"You were in surgery for a while," he said. "Yesterday night. The doctors say you'll make a speedy recovery."
You didn't respond.
"Garcia's still flying in. She won't believe anything I say until she sees it with her own eyes," he lightly chuckled. But his tone was heavy. No jokes could erase that. "The others'll be on their way back when they wake up. I told 'em you were in good hands."
You wanted to laugh. You tried. The only thing that left your mouth was a sob.
Derek was immediately at your side, cradling your head into his chest, letting your tears soak his shirt and not saying a single word about any of it. You wanted that to make it feel better, but you just felt empty.
Like there were holes in your body.
—
You sat on your couch, wrapped in a warm blanket as Derek rummaged through your cupboards, looking for something to give that was fit for human consumption. You would've been a good host and offered him tea, but he already had a pot on the stove.
He said you looked like you hadn't eaten. You didn't deny it.
"Everything in your fridge is expired, so I ordered us some breakfast from that place downtown," he informed you, setting down two mugs of tea on the coffee table and taking a seat in the armchair across from you.
You watched the steam twirl into the air, nodding blankly.
Derek sighed. "Kid, I'm worried about you."
You sighed back in response. "I'm fine." The words came out harsher than intended.
Derek's eyes softened. "You quit your job, Y/N. You love the BAU."
Love. Loved. You shook your head, lightly scoffing through your nose. For the first time in a while, you were honest. "I love the BAU when it isn't taking everything away from me." You could count the things this job had taken from you on two hands too many, turning your reflection into a stranger.
It made you wonder what you'd do without it.
Derek's eyes didn't meet yours, looking down at the floor instead. The room went quiet. You could hear the cars outside, the rest of the world moving on while you stayed right where you were, stagnant.
Right now, you were in your apartment. Your feet were touching your hardwood floor. Your fingers played with a loose string on your blanket. Derek sat across from you. Your body was here.
But in reality, your mind was stuck in that house. Stuck walking into a trap with Morgan right behind you.
"I'm sorry."
At his sudden words, you looked up. His eyes locked with yours. You didn't know how long it'd been that you'd sat in silence, but you certainly didn't expect it to be broken with those words.
You furrowed your brows. "What?"
Despite the long period of quietness that came before, he didn't stay quiet now. He didn't even look like he had to think about what he was saying—almost like he'd thought it all a thousand times before. "Y/N, I'm sorry that you're in pain. And if I could switch places with you, I would— in a heartbeat." He leaned forward in his chair. "There's not a day that goes by that I don't think about what happened. About how I left you alone." His voice tightened up. "But Y/N, I swear to you, if you come back to the BAU, I won't ever leave you alone like that again."
Strong conviction laced his voice, like he was under oath. For a moment, you were confused by what he was saying. He never left you alone— oh.
Oh.
Tears welled up in your eyes. "Derek—" your voice cracked. Oh, you felt terrible. So, so terrible.
How long had one of your best friends blamed himself for something he had no control over? How long had this slipped past you?
You were supposed to be one of the best profilers in the nation.
But right now, you just felt terrible.
"Derek, I never blamed you." A tear slid down your cheek against your wishes. "This isn't your fault. It never was."
Your vision was so blurry that you didn't see him crying, but you did see him wipe at his eyes. That made you get up, and he met you in the middle, wrapping his arms around you and engulfing you in his embrace.
In his arms, you cried freely, just like that morning in the hospital. You cried for all the things you pretended not to cry about. For all the things you lost. The things you didn't see. The person you were. The person you could've been.
"I'll never leave you alone again, you hear me, kid?" Derek hugged you tighter through his muffled words, making sure you didn't just hear them but that you felt them. "We're family."
Family.
You hugged him back just as tight. If you lost everything, you still had that. You might have lost yourself, but your family was right there, shining a light in the darkness, looking for you.
You prayed they'd find you.
—
When Morgan left, it was dark out. He only left after a lot of crying and even more food, but you felt different. Reminded of what you still had.
You weren't okay. Nothing was okay. But you wanted to things to be able to get better. You didn't just want to give up and walk away from it everything. You built a life at the BAU with people you loved. Maybe there was one person you even loved too much.
God, he hurt you. He hurt you in irreversible ways, leaving you out in the cold multiple times, begging for him to see you just for him to turn away.
And you knew he cared about you. No one acted the way he did without caring. Sometimes, you thought Aaron Hotchner cared too much, masking it behind a wall of indifference.
Before all this happened, you were allowed behind the wall. He showed you the man he hid from others. You fell in love with that man. You missed him.
You just wanted to go back to those versions of yourself. The Y/N who would make a stupid joke late at night and the Aaron who would be too tired to pretend not to smile.
But Hotch wanted to talk about it. Aaron did, too, but it was mostly Hotch. A different version of him that was too concerned, too focused on drilling the truth out of you.
Could you give it to him? There was a time when you would've given him anything; all he had to do was ask. Now, you weren't so sure. There were certain parts of yourself you couldn't just hand out, certain things you wanted to keep for you and you alone.
You had already given up so much. You already gave your heart to Aaron Hotchner once, and he discarded it. Who was to say this time would be any different?
No. You couldn't give him everything.
But you'd give him something.
—
You found the route to Hotch's apartment the same way you did time and time before, like a dance you still knew the steps to. You knew when to turn right and when to turn left, when to keep going straight and when to stop. Nothing about this was unfamiliar.
Aaron Hotchner was once the most familiar person you'd ever known.
But you knew things were different.
Even though the elevator up to his floor hadn't changed and he still had the same mat outside his door, you knew that you weren't the same. You had changed. You weren't familiar anymore.
And so, when he opened the door and his brows raised up to his hairline, you understood the surprise. You didn't just do this—you didn't just show up at his apartment unannounced, not anymore.
His lips parted. You weren't sure if he was going to speak or if he was just in shock. You spoke first regardless.
"I, um," you wrung your hands together, "I don't have food this time." A nervous smile lit up your face, no less nervous than your first time in his office. Maybe more nervous this time. Maybe you hid it better back then.
And maybe he could hide his emotions better back then, too. The shock on his face didn't clear until after you had spoken. He blinked, then opened his door wider. "Please."
A small thank you left your lips as you walked in, crossing the threshold into a world you knew you wouldn't be able to leave again.
The apartment looked like it hadn't changed at all. The only thing that caught your eye were the toys splayed out on the living room floor.
Your heart spiked, but as if Hotch could read your mind, he said, "Jack is asleep."
Glad you weren't interrupting anything, the tension in your shoulders was released. You wondered if that's what he saw: visual cues that indicated your mental state. Was it mind reading or behaviour?
Was he a profiler, or did he just know you as well as you both thought he did?
You couldn't really tell anymore.
"Would you like something to drink?" he queried.
"No, I uh..." this was small talk. You weren't here for this; you didn't even know what you were here for, but it was for more than this.
Whatever you were here for, you had to figure it out before you lost your nerve.
You turned around, finding him right behind you. You inhaled a sharp breath. The last time he was this close to you—
"You hurt me, Hotch." The words tumbled out of your mouth before you even had the time to filter them. You watched his face fall. You continued, anyway. "You hurt me when you left me alone that night. And I— I can't fault you for rejection. But you left me all over again when I— when I needed you."
"Y/N." He took a step closer.
You took a step back.
"I needed you. I really, really needed you." Tears built in your eyes. "But you weren't there." You wiped away the tears in your eyes before they could fall, refusing to cry. "And then you have me go on the record to talk about the most horrible experience of my life, and suspend me when you don't get what you want. Like I'm just some rookie agent."
Unlike the previous conversations you'd had, Aaron didn't say anything to his defense. He stood there, unmoving, letting you say what you needed to say. You were equal parts grateful and equal parts angry. Exasperated.
You wanted him to say something. You wanted to know if it was really all in your head, if it really happened or if you imagined it. "Is that—" you faltered, "is that all I am to you, Hotch? Just an agent? Did I ever—" you swallowed, "did I ever mean anything to you?"
"Yes." His response was rapid, his eyes narrowing as if he was insulted by the question. As if he was shocked you could ever think otherwise. He took a step closer to you, and this time, you didn't step back. "If I have ever made you feel like you are 'just an agent,' then I sincerely apologize." He paused, his eyes boring into yours. "Y/N, you are one of the most qualified and accomplished agents I have ever met, let alone had the pleasure of working with. And I can say with absolute certainty that you are one of the best people I have ever known. You are beautiful, inside and out, and full of so much light that you have brightened every room you've walked into." His words reverberated through the quiet room, soaking into your bones and into every fibre of your being. "So, if I've pressured you since your return, it is because I am worried."
Your breath hitched as he took another step closer. "I'm sorry I wasn't there. I'm sorry for leaving you alone that night and every other night afterward. I was—" he took a breath, looking down briefly. When his eyes met yours again, they were just as honest. Brave. Afraid. "I was terrified I'd lose you. That I would ruin what we had. And then I was scared for what happened to you. Too afraid to look you in the eye after I made a decision that almost cost you your life. By the time you got back to the BAU, my fear wasn't just losing you physically. It was losing you. Your heart. Your spirit. All the things I love about you."
Your heart might've stopped then and there. After a few seconds, you echoed, "Love?"
Aaron didn't back down or retract what he said. He nodded, like he was confirming it you and to himself. "Yes."
There were words he wasn't saying; you understood that. There were words you weren't saying, either.
But you knew what it meant for things to go unsaid. People blamed themselves. People crumbled. They said things they didn't mean to compensate for what they weren't saying. They were crushed under the weight of it all.
You didn't want that to happen anymore.
You took a step back, not because you were stepping away from the conversation, but because you were stepping into it. You nodded toward the couch. "Let's have that talk."
Aaron's eyes flooded with relief. You both made your way to his couch and sat down.
And then you talked until the sun came up.
—
Your talk with Aaron wasn't easy. And despite your best promises to yourself, you still ended up crying, anyway.
You weren't naïve. That may have been the first conversation you had, but it wouldn't be the last. There was still so much you had to talk about, so much you had to work through, but you had the time to do it.
Your suspension was lifted, but you didn't return to the BAU. At least, not right away. You decided not to throw yourself back into it, to let yourself find your footing first and process everything you tried to shove down.
Every member of the team supported you, and you knew there was a spot waiting for you when you were ready. Garcia had reassured you there were issues with your resignation, anyway (which you knew was undoubtedly her doing). You thanked her for her troubles.
She visited you often while you were home alone, updating you on the team's shenanigans. And Rossi visited you with enough food to feed a shelter, rendering it pointless to go grocery shopping at all. You accused him of spoiling you. He retorted that he could cook for the whole team if he wanted to.
And that's how you ended up where you were, underneath the fairy lights in his backyard as Reid summarized Greek mythology to you.
Gesturing his hands in the air, he explained, "No, actually— although thought to be, Apollo is not the sun god. Helios is. Helios is meant to be a personification of the sun—the sun in human form. But Apollo is god of the sun—an important distinction in categorization. He's not the sun, but he's not supposed to be. He just has sunlike features, and— I'm sorry. I'm rambling, aren't I?"
He looked sheepish, but you were leaning forward in your seat. "No, not at all." You gave him a reassuring smile. "Please, keep going."
Spencer's eyes lit up, and he went on, "Well, Apollo has many more characteristics that make him an interesting god to look at it, like his love of truth, music, poetry, healing, and..."
As he continued, you couldn't help but connect what he was talking about to yourself.
He's not the sun.
But he's not supposed to be.
Inadvertently, you realized what you'd been trying to learn for so long. The answer was right in front of you the whole time, but now, you finally understood it.
You kept trying to be this person that didn't exist. The sun. A work of fiction. But you couldn't be that. The sun wasn't up all the time. It wasn't always bright. It was impossible to be light at every waking moment. The light didn't define Apollo, and it didn't define you.
No, you realized. You weren't the sun.
You were so much more than that.

Hi Angel!! I first wanted to say that I love all your Sevika stories, they never fail to make my days better!
So, I've recently been thinking about little fucker and the twins a lot ((bc I found out I'm gonna be an aunt for twins :DD and it made me wonder how did Sev and Reader react to the news, like.. "what. WERE HAVING TWINS??? HOW." something like this lmao.
Not sure if you've already written something like this, but I've practically read all of your masterlists lmao. If you did feel free to skip cuz I have really bad short term memory ;))
oh my god that's so exciting!!! congrats auntie!!! i think i wrote a few little sentences about this in one of the first twins posts, but lets make it a full fledged story heheeh <3
(also as always with these stories, don't think too much about how the pregnancy happened. reader is trans, or has a magical strap, or it's just yuri magic. you choose hehe)
men and minors dni
for the first few days after sevika's pregnancy test coming back positive, you're both living in denial.
"how am i pregnant? i thought this was menopause! i thought i was done with all this shit!" sevika whines.
you giggle a little hysterically, then pull her into your arms. "i have no fuckin' idea." you say, blinking in shock. "holy shit. i actually knocked you up."
sevika giggles just as crazily in your hold. "congrats."
"i've been trying to get revenge on you for little fucker since you first knocked me up with her!" you laugh. sevika snorts and smacks your shoulder.
"don't say revenge. oh fuck, this is gonna miserable, isn't it?" sevika whines. you kiss her sweetly.
"it's the most amazing thing that's ever happened!"
"you're such a shit. you're just happy it isn't you this time around."
"damn right i am!" you laugh. sevika smiles at you, and then her face falls. you coo and wrap her up in another hug. "it's gonna be alright sevi-bear. i'm gonna be with you every step of the way."
"no, it's not that." sevika whimpers as she nuzzles against your shoulder. "i'm just-- i'm so happy. we're gonna have another one, baby, holy shit."
you grin and pull sevika in for a kiss.
her reaction isn't quite as happy when you get to your doctor's office, though.
"o-oh!" the ultrasound tech gasps.
"good 'oh?'" sevika worries, sitting up a bit from her spot on the paper covered exam table.
"you're having twins, mommies! congratulations!" the tech gasps, grinning up at you and sevika.
you blink.
the tech giggles with glee and turns back to her monitor, clearly handling the news better than you are. you blink again, then look down at sevika.
she's glaring at you like she's going to murder you.
it's only now that the tech's words hit you. and for some reason, you burst into laughter.
"t-twins?!" you cackle. "like, two of 'em?! how-- how the hell did we do that!?" you ask.
the tech blinks up at you in surprise, opens her mouth to speak, but you don't hear her answer. you're too busy grinning down at your wife.
"i'm gonna kill you." sevika finally whispers. you burst into another round of laughs.
"alright. just wait 'til after the pregnancy, think you might want me around these next few months, mama." you tease.
sevika's glare is deadly, but you can't find it in you to stop laughing. holy shit. two more little babies running around your house. if they're anything like their sister, they'll look exactly like sevika. tears well up in your eyes as you gaze lovingly down at your angry wife, imagining two pairs of grumpy baby eyes glaring up at you while you try to change their diapers.
"are you crying?!" sevika squawks. "why the hell are you crying, i should be the one crying!"
"you can cry too, baby!" you giggle, a surge of love taking over your body. before you know what's happening, you're smacking the tech's hand away from your wife's belly and straddling her waist, peppering her face with an endless barrage of kisses. "oh, holy shit, baby, we're gettin' two more of 'em!"
sevika's glare lessens a bit, a small smile ticking up at the corner of her mouth. you can see her softening to the idea; two more babies for you to love; but before a full smile can take over her face she forces herself back into a frown. "we can barely afford the kid we've got." she huffs.
you snort. "that's the beauty of hand-me-downs, sev. plus, silco gave you a big raise when we had the little fucker, what makes you think he'll hold back now that it's your turn?"
"we live in a two bedroom home!"
"we can move!"
"while i'm pregnant with twins?!"
"i'll start looking for a new place the second we get home."
sevika finally smiles, rolling her eyes and giggles a bit. "i can't believe you." she whispers. you grin.
"you're the love of my fucking life. i can't believe you."
the door clicks shut, and you both look up from your embrace to find that the tech has snuck out to give you some privacy.
and, finally, sevika bursts into laughter along with you.

I love you all immensely. Take care. 💖
Your first day at work brings both excitement and anxiety. It's been a long time since you felt possibility ahead of you. You don't know that you ever really have. That's probably why you did what you did. No excuses. You made bad choices and didn't care who you hurt.
You grab your new bag, in your brown blazer, a white satin blouse, and a black skirt, and head off. You feel like an imposter already. You get on the bus, standing as you avoid the musty seats, and figure you'll be sitting a bit too long that day.
The office is building is just as it was before. Smaller than other business towers. The grey brick gives it an antique feel. Quaint, almost. You don't think you'll feel that way for long.
As you enter, you recall the withering look from those green eyes. The timbre of judgment in his voice. The glint of mocking. You should be used to it by now, shouldn't you?
You approach the office door and hesitate. What do you do? He gave you a time. You have no key. The door does not give off an essence of welcome.
You knock and shift in your heels. You got the lowest ones you could find and they're still awful. You hear movement within. Mr. Laufeyson opens the door as you straighten your posture.
"Good morning, sir," you greet.
"You will fetch my coffee," he skips over any semblance of propriety. Even you know how to say hello.
"Oh, yes sir," you reply, put off by his suddenness.
"There is a cafe off the lobby. You must've passed it on your way in. Cortado." He demands.
You take a breath. He could say please or thank you. You're used to a lack of manners but when you feel demeaned, you get a bit itchy.
"Yes, sir, uh, I--"
"You will be reimbursed. File a report," he turns away, "I would give a company card but... let's keep it all on file."
He gets to his office door and you watch him in a silent simmer. You go to the empty desk and set down your bag. You dig out your wallet before tucking the rest underneath.
You find your way down to the cafe, nestled between a law office and marketing consultancy space. You join the line and peer up at the menu. What did he say? C... something. Cortado, that's it right there.
You step up for your turn. You pay for the drink and wait at the end of the counter. With your first task accomplished, you set off back to work.
You enter the office. It's deathly silent. You can't help but look over your shoulder. Your hand balls to a fist instinctively.
Before you can approach his door, it opens.
"Thought I heard you," he struts out. "You may shut the door. And sit."
You nod and offer him the cup. He points to the barren desk. You set it down and take your seat. He disappears. You frown. Was it some test?
He emerges again, this time pushing a green leather chair. It looks much comfier than your own. He rolls it next to you and sits. You fidget and tug at the cuffs of the blazer.
"Well, you can follow orders," he slithers. "Your attire is less... casual. The coffee is hot," he reaches for the cup and sips. "You will turn on the computer."
You look under the desk for the tower. He scoffs and taps the laptop beside the monitor. You don't know how you missed that.
"You will need to work outside the office at times. Now, I've a tracker installed and security, so there's no use in selling it," he warns.
You seal your lips and nod. You won't show your irritation. Let him treat you like a criminal, at least he's paying you.
You open the laptop and press the power button. It's very sleek and shiny. Brand new.
"And the monitor," he directs and sips again. It's somewhat agitating to hear.
You push the button along the bottom of the screen. He points to a post-it beside the touch pad. "Credentials."
You type them in and hit enter. At least he's helping. Most of the courses you took were online and had zero support. You can figure things out on your own but you don't think he trusts you to do that.
"I've had an employee ID set up. That is here," he points lower down on the post-it. "There is a folder here for you to review standard practices and expectations."
He gestures to the smaller screen as you quietly observe. He sighs.
"You have any questions?"
"No, sir," you say.
"And you understand?"
"Yes, sir," you answer. I can read, tickles your tongue but you refuse to unleash it.
"Wonderful, so let me take you through a few of our basic programs just so that you are set. There would be the email, then the task tracker, and finally, the most important, my calendar," he explains.
"Yes, sir," you repeat.
He wheels closer, his hand clasping onto the back of your chair. He keeps his cup in his other hand, extend one finger to motion to the screen. He helps you get into the inbox.
"I recommend you review previous responses as well the templates provided in the Procedures folder." He explains.
You bend and reach below the desk. You sift in your bag as he tuts, "whatever are you doing?"
You sit back up with your notebook and a bic pen. You show him, "taking notes."
He hums, "well, that is a good idea, isn't it?"
He looks back to the screen as you flip the cover around the spirals. He's expecting you to fail, just like Dina, just like everyone else. You won't if you can help it.
💼
You send another message to Mr. Laufeyson. For your first day, he insists on reviewing your emails. You let him know you have some waiting and go back to reviewing the folder of policy. It's not too difficult, only dry. You like that.
How long did you live on edge, waiting for something to go wrong. It still could but there's no one actively working against you. Only your own bad habits. You just need to resist. You need to keep moving forward.
'Send it'. His message is simple. No praise, no tips. Just approval. That's good enough for you.
When lunch comes, you eat at your desk. You packed a plain peanut butter sandwich, a bottle of sparkling water, and small container of trail mix. Enough to tide you over. What you can spare.
As you chew the crust, the door opens. Laufeyson sniffs and crosses his arms as he faces you. You swallow and wrap up the last bite.
"Peanuts?" He says.
"Oh, are you allergic?" You ask.
"I prefer almond," he snips. "You're eating?"
"Sir, you said twelve was my lunch."
He squints then untangles his wrist to look at his watch, "so I did."
You let out the heavy breath in your chest. You fold up the parchment around the sandwich and put it in your bag. Your stomach's doing those somersaults again.
"You may finish," he says.
"That's fine, sir, I was done," you assure him and grab a tissue to wipe your hands and mouth. You crumple it and put it in the bin. He looms close.
"Well, if you aren't busy, another coffee would be in order."
You look at him. You still have ten minutes. This isn't the yard, there's no guard counting down the minutes. You get up.
"Yes, sir," you answer.
"Oh, don't skip to the door," he says drolly.
You tilt your head. His attitude drips from his posture as he checks his nails. You have to keep from scowling. You've been polite but he can't seem to show an ounce of decency. Well, he doesn't need to, he is your boss.
"Just the coffee?" You ask.
"Yes, dear, simple as," he assures flatly, as if you can't understand a coffee order.
You bend down and grab your wallet. You put your hand on the desk to push yourself up and his shadow shifts. You glance over and his green eyes flick away from your skirt. You stand and tug it straight, worried it might have hitched up.
"Excuse me," you sidle past him.
"Do hurry," he bids.
You're thankful to be away. You feel less suffocated by the guards with their night sticks, following you around as if you might make a run for the fence.
It's busier at the cafe. You get to the counter and order. It's the same as before but even more crowded. Sweat speckles over your scalp as the walls seem to close in.
You gulp for air as you get back to the lobby. You go up to the second floor and nearly burst through the office door. Laufeyson is by your desk, waiting.
"Something the matter?" He muses. "I trust you didn't abscond with a coffee unpaid for?"
You steady yourself and cross to him, offering the cup, "no, sir, it was only busy and I didn't want to be late."
"Oh?" He arches a brow. "You seem rather worked up over it."
"I'm not," you go around the desk and sit.
"Ah yes, a different sort of cage now," he remarks, "no bars, just a wool blazer and a desk."
You look at him, "I... no, it's not bad."
"I suppose the comparison makes it tolerable," he snickers.
"I guess," you agree and sign back into the laptop.
"I've a client coming shortly. Please be sure to show them in with a smile."
"I will, sir," you open the inbox.
"You will?"
"Yes," you repeat.
"Let me see."
"What?" You jerk back and pivot the chair toward him.
"Smile for me."
You stare at him then furrow your brow. He's taunting you. You know it. You can't let him get to you.
You smile, or attempt to.
"I know you might be out of practice but do try a little harder." He goads.
You wipe your face and look down. You inhale. You smile again, this time resisting the tension tugging in your cheeks. He tilts his head.
"Mm, you look almost like a lady," he sneers over the brim of his cup.
You're starting to suspect he didn't hire you for good intentions. To be a helping hand. No, he's testing you. Trying to see how long it takes for you to break. Well, you won't.
"Thank you, sir," you face the computer again.
He sighs and struts away. The smile falls off your face and you open the newest email. You pluck away at it, falling back into a tempo between reading and typing.
A knock comes at the door and you nearly slide out of the chair as you push it back. You get up and tap around on your heels. You brace yourself and remember. Smile.
You turn the handle and pull the door open. "Hello, how are you today?"
You sound stupid, like that churlish woman at the clothes shop. The man double takes and his lips slant, "I... the door says..."
"Mr. Laufeyson is in his office," you explain.
The man nods and thoughtfully taps his chin, "ah, makes sense. He's hired a secretary."
"Sir," you step back to let him in.
"Aren't you polite?" He strolls in. "You might tell him Pine is here."
"Yes, I will."
You skirt around him and go to Laufeyson's door. You tap lightly. "Sir, your-- Mr. Pine is here."
You wait at the door, trying to hear through it. It swings open and you teeter back. Pine steps forward, his hand outstretched.
"Laufeyson," he shakes the others' hand. "Well, have you sorted it?"
"You always bring me a challenge," Laufeyson waves him through then looks at you, "Pine, you take tea?"
"As always." The man passes between you into the back office.
"English breakfast," he points at you. "Quickly."

Companions banter with Assan in the Lighthouse
Davrin: (Hums) Assan: (Squawk) Davrin: What? Assan: (Squawk) Davrin: You don't like my humming? You think you can do better? Assan: (Squawk)(Squawk)(Squawk) Davrin: I'm still waiting. Assan: (Anxious squawk.) Davrin: I know, I know. It's not the same as the aerie. Assan: (Anxious squawk.) Davrin: Don't worry. We'll adjust. Assan: (Squawk) Davrin: If you're asking for food, the answer is no. Assan: (Squawk) Davrin: Still no. Assan: (Insistent squawk!) Davrin: Hey, what did I say about being rude? Assan: (Quiet squawk) Davrin: Good boy. Davrin: It's called "turlum." We move as one. Assan: (Squawk) Davrin: I don't know how. But… we'll get there. Assan: (Sad squawk) Davrin: What's the matter, boy? Assan: (Sad squawk) Davrin: Feeling down? You miss your brothers and sisters? Assan: (Sad squawk) Davrin: Don't worry. I promise you'll see them again. Davrin: You did real good against the Gloom Howler, boy. Assan: (Squawk) Davrin: Just be careful. Still a lot to learn. But you're getting there.
Bellara: Davrin, have you seen a Calcerum crystal lying around? Davrin: No, sorry. Bellara: I swear I saw it on my table. Davrin: What'd you do after that? Bellara: Well, Assan wandered in. Davrin: There's your problem. Griffons like shiny baubles. Bellara: He stole my crystal? Assan: (Squawk) Davrin: More like "borrowed" it. And then probably buried it. Bellara: Okay, now I think Assan took a runestone. I can't find it anywhere. Davrin: Assan? Did you steal Bellara's stuff? Assan: (Defiant squawk) Davrin: Assan… Assan: (Defiant squawk) Davrin: Assan… Assan: (Weak squawk) Davrin: Assan. Assan: (Whimpering squawk) Davrin: Good boy. Always be honest. Bellara: Thanks for that. But where's my runestone? Davrin: Oh, probably buried in a forest somewhere. Bellara: Davrin— Davrin: Let me guess: Assan took something of yours. Bellara: No, he brought it back! My runestone. I found it sitting on my table. Davrin: Yeah? Bellara: Even better, there were two more with it. Davrin: Did you do that, Assan? Assan: (Friendly squawk) Davrin: Yeah? Good boy. Bellara: Really good boy. He paid it back with interest.
Emmrich: One squawk for "yes," two for "no." Assan: (Squawk) Davrin: You don't really think that'll work. Emmrich: We can't afford to take anything for granted about them, Davrin. Emmrich: Let us try again, Assan. One for "yes." Do you understand? Assan: (Squawk) Emmrich: Ah-ha! Davrin: Hold on. Assan, is the sky made of chocolate? Assan: (Squawk) Davrin: Does water taste like pumpkin? Assan: (Squawk) Emmrich: Ah. Davrin: Sorry. He just likes to hear himself talk. Emmrich: It worked so well with Manfred.
Harding: Ew. Davrin: What? Harding: The, uh, smell. Davrin: Yeah. Ser Squawks-A-Lot over here doesn't always remember his potty training. Assan: (Squawk) Davrin: Got any flowers that might cover the scent? Harding: I'll see what I can do. Harding: Does it have to be a truffle? Davrin: Assan? Assan: (Squawk!) (Squawk!) Davrin: He says yes. Harding: Okay, but just for you, boy. Assan: (Excited squawk) Harding: I like what you've done with the room. Davrin: Suits me well enough. Harding: I was talking to Assan. Assan: (Squawk) Davrin: Oh. Harding: Such a pretty boy! Assan: (Excited squawk) Harding: So nice of you to let Davrin move in with you! Assan: (Squawk) Davrin: You can go now, Harding. Harding: Well, it smells a little better in here now. Davrin: Thanks for those flowers. They cover the scent. Harding: (Sniffs the air) Not well enough. Davrin: Because Ser Squawks-A-Lot over there eats them. Assan: (Satisfied squawk) Harding: Oh, dear. Davrin: Got any flowers that smell nice but taste bad? Harding: I'm on it.
Lucanis: This room is an assassin's dream. No defenses. Nothing to stop me from sneaking in for the kill. Davrin: Except him. Assan: (Suspicious squawk) Davrin: An eagle vs. a Crow? My bet's on the eagle. Lucanis: I know where the truffles are kept in the pantry. Davrin: You wouldn't. Lucanis: Maybe Assan and Spite should have a playdate. Davrin: Assan would tear him apart. Lucanis: How? Spite's not exactly physical. Davrin: Assan would find a way. Assan: (Squawk) Davrin: He'd squawk him to death.
Neve: Aren't you a pretty boy? Assan: (Happy squawk) Neve: (Laughs) Yes, you are. Assan: (Happy squawk) Davrin: Assan, you can stop flirting now. You won her over. Assan: (Squawk) Neve: Of course you did. Who's a good boy? Assan: (Happy squawk) Neve: What do you know about Assan's brothers and sisters? Davrin: Well, there's Thunder. And Beaktooth. And Stormwing. Neve: That's three. Davrin: Yeah, and then the other nine… it's a blur. Lots of feathers. I couldn't keep track of them all. (The Profane and The Lost isn't complete) Neve: Poor Assan. You miss your family? Assan: (Sad squawk) Neve: We'll keep looking. (The Profane and The Lost is complete) Neve: At least they're safe. Davrin: And the Wardens' problem now. A dozen mouths to feed. Davrin: And Eldrin's problem now. A dozen mouths to feed. Neve: Hey Assan. What do you think? Should I get some leads on your favorite truffles? Assan: (Happy squawk)
The lines below are cut. They were supposed to trigger after the final battle and if the player choose Davrin to lead distraction team. Previously, Assan could have survived.
Bellara: Assan. I… tried to whittle this. I'm not very good, but I thought, maybe… you'd like it? Assan: (Happy squawk) Emmrich: I suppose it's time you had another excursion. Emmrich: Perhaps the Necropolis? No. Davrin would want you exploring the wilds. Emmrich: Harding and I will take you a little later. Assan: (Happy squawk) Harding: My ma always says we never really lose the people we love. We carry them with us. Harding: You'll remember everything he taught you. All the faith he had in you. All of his hopes. And he'll be with you. Assan: (Squawk)

I tried to make reader neutral looking but I couldn't manage. But it's the thought that counts. Don't copy without tagging me.

Reader's POV
You make your way to the nearby park, again. You sort of can't wait, you hope that the kind man will be there today as well. For days you've been bracing yourself how to approach him.
On days when your mom can't immediately pick you up from school, — tuesdays, thursdays and fridays — you learned to keep yourself busy. Your favorite place is at the park. Nobody bothers you there. And one day you saw a man in a suit with bags in each hand. He went up to every homeless man and woman handing out something. You couldn't see it from so far away. No one looks at homeless people. But he does, so he must be kind.
If he's willing to talk to them then maybe he'll talk to you too? No one really likes you either. You don't have any friends. And dad certainly thinks of you as too revolting to look at.
After that day you went to the park every time mom runs late. Keeping an eye out for him. He wasn't always there. But you felt better after getting a glance of him. Also you kept shortening the distance from which you were watching him.
But now you are ready. You didn't have to wait long after arriving. You basically rush up to him and before you can chicken out you speak. "Excuse me, sir…?"
He turns to look at you, his expression a little irritated and curious at being interrupted. A raised eyebrow and a short "Yes?" is enough to make you continue.
"What do you have in those bags, sir?" you ask tilting your head.
He considers you for a moment then he opens one bag, curtly replying "Bread."
You feel your eyes widening at the amount of packaged loaves. Is that what he always offers others? You look up at him eagerly, "Can I have one, please?"
To your astonishment he agrees and lets you take it. "Gamsahabnida, sir." [Thank you, sir] With that you rush back to your spot on the bench.
You happily eat while you see him going through every person. After the last man, he then walks and stops in the centre of the pavement. He does something you didn't see before nor expect. He empties both bags to the ground, bread lands on the ground. And when a man crouching, reaches for one. He stomps on it.
"I gave you a chance, and you made your choice." His voice is loud enough for you to clearly hear what he's saying. "I'm not the one who threw these away." He points to the ground, "It's you, ladies and gentlemen."
And then he starts jumping and crushing the bread. You keep nibbling on your loaf but it does nothing to calm your beating heart at the familiar sight. You know very well it's a reasonable punishment for not eating. You don't understand how they could keep denying the bread to the point that today the kind man had enough of them. You're happy you managed to get one loaf from him.
You keep your gaze down on the ground in front of you. There's still plenty of time until mom can finally drive you home.
So you decide to do your homework. You were already half-way done when lesson ended. You were putting the last touches when a shadow falls on you and your notebook. You glance up to see loaf man staring intensely at you. Does he want to sit here?
Your cheeks flush with shame, you scramble up to pack everything. "S-sorry, sir."
He grabs your wrist to stop you from packing up further. "It's fine. I don't mind." He gives you a small smile. "If I may ask… Why are you here? Where are your parents?"
You hug your exercise book to soothe yourself. "At work. Mom doesn't pick me up until later." A bit of silence passes that you break quietly. "Thank you again for the bread. It was delicious."
In softened voice and a bit slowly the man speaks, "Did I frighten you little one? Are you scared of me?"
You're pinching and rubbing the book cover in a soothing motion. You look at the ground which is when you notice he still has the paper bags but this time containing stomped on bread.
"Not really? I was a little startled when you dumped and crushed the bread… But I get it. My parents don't like it when I refuse to eat either. But usually I have to eat it when dad tells me so; even if I don't like the taste."
"Is that so?" It's told with an edge you can't pick up.
You nod your head, your grip on the book loosens.
"How old are you?"
"…ten…" Your answer is mumbled enough that the man has to lean in closer to hear it.
"You're ten?" He whispered in disbelief. He looks around as if to see if someone finds this unbelievable as well. "…and how long will it be until your mother picks you up?" His eyes jump across your face in search of something.
"It's usually 4:48 PM. Maybe minutes earlier or later. I don't mind it much. I'm a big kid."
His eyes darkened for a moment only to be swiftly replaced by softness and calmness. He sends you a charming smile. "Then you wouldn't mind my company then?"
You shake your head and that's that.
Since Mr. Loaf Man doesn't mind, you unpack again to finish the rest of your homework. He doesn't speak to you again. Just sits there, quietly observing you. After you finish every homework you had, you decide to play around. A little hide and seek. Mr. Loaf Man even played along with you! When time neared 4:30 you already have everything in your backpack and are ready to head back to your school gate. That was the moment when he offered to walk you there. He's so kind! Of course you readily agreed.
After arriving to your school, he makes sure you'll be okay alone and walks away. You only wait six minutes after that for your mom to come. You step into the car and buckle your seatbelt.
"Did you have fun at school sweetie?"
"Yes, mom. Just like always. I even got to solve an equation and write it on the board!" You say with excitement.
"That's amazing, sweetie."
...
"Mom…?" she hums, "…what's for dinner today?"
"Maybe… Baechu Guk, hmm?" You actually like it so maybe it won't be that bad today. You will lick the plate clean! And dad will be happy. It's not your favorite but at least it's not sannakji. You felt really sick after eating that. You hate it but dad makes sure you eat it everytime it's served. You can cry and scream but dad knows how to force you to swallow it. But more often than not, you throw up afterwards. And then you don't get to eat for couple days. As a way to make up for you wasting food.
Mom parks the car before your house. You quickly get out to help her carry the grocery bag. She opens the door and you make your way to the kitchen. Not before quickly taking off your shoes. In fast moves you set everything on the table and then place things in the correct cupboards (those that you can reach).
Your mom walks in, having already hung her coat. "That's okay, (y/n). I have it from here. You go to your room and do your homework, okay? Food will be ready in half an hour." She rubs your head.
"Okay mom." You go to the front door to leave your jacket on the hanger. You hurry to your room.
You only have 30 minutes to think of a gift for Mr. Loaf Man. You need to show your gratitude. It's proper.
But you don't know what he likes… A bracelet is out, he doesn't seem like the type. Besides it's more a gift for girls. A key chain? You don't know his favorite colors though, so it's out too.
A picture maybe? Nothing goes wrong there. Maybe it's a little basic… But you might be able to give him something better later on.
But you want it to look, if not good, decent enough. It has to show your gratefulness. So minutes pass as you test out different colors and positions and something always didn't sit quite right. It turns out ugly. You ended up re-doing it every time. You couldn't decide what else to draw when mom calls for dinner.
Dad already sat in his chair, his face forever frozen on expressing frustration. You join the table as mom brings food.
First portion goes to dad then mom and then to you. You wait until dad starts eating.
"(y/n), tell your dad what you managed to do today."
You nod your head, enthusiastic to share your accomplishment. Dad might be happy too. "I got to do an exercise in front of the whole class! I solved every equation correctly."
He scoffs, "What is there to be proud of? You probably forgot to do your homework."
You lower your head and focus on eating, every ounce of excitement leaving your body.
"(f/n)!"
"What?! You know I'm telling the truth! They're incompetent! Not even the top of their class." He grunts and goes back to eating.
"They're capable enough not to need help with homework. (y/n), did you manage to finish everything your teacher gave you?"
Forgetting to swallow, you answer that yes, you did. Your mother continues, "See? They did that in half an hour."
Dad growls and bangs his hand on the table. "Are you blind, (m/n)?! Did you not see what I did? How many times have I repeated myself- No talking with your mouth full! Clearly (y/n) is a useless brat! Nothing stays in that head."
You curl in on yourself further. Wishing to become invisible in this moment. But you also hurry with Baechu Guk to avoid angering him further. And because you're going to need it. As you know you can't avoid your punishment for forgetting a rule. Thankfully this time your dad decides to punish you after dinner.
Mom cleans the table while dad grips your small arm and leads you to the punishment closet. He shoves you inside. "You should know the deal. But since you're a forgetful dumbass, I'll repeat it for you." He leans closer to your face, disgust clear on his face. "You stay here as long as the number of times you broke the rules. For every disobedience is 10 more minutes. Today marks 110 minutes, congratulations. Now, quiet!" He hissed the last part. With that he slams the closet shut. You hear him lock the closet door with a key.
You're shaking all over. Alone in the darkness, dreading how long 110 minutes will feel like. You feel your tears run down your cheeks. You hope he won't forget to get you out. You won't have time to do Mr. Loaf Man that drawing otherwise… You hope that this friday he'll be there and won't mind your company again.

earlier, Salesman's POV
He's heading toward the park where most of the homeless reside. It's the latest whim of the frontman. Social experiments. As if humanity has any hope for redemption. Especially the trash. He's confident it's the fault of player 456 for this idiocy.
Arrogance seems to be a heritable trait for winners. They think of themselves as special. Player 456 with his will to put a stop to the games and player 132… well, being chosen as the next frontman and successor by the host surely went to his head.
He arrives to the park when he hears someone run in his direction. He was ready to pay them no mind. He's far more irritateable today. He keeps walking until he hears a child's voice. "Excuse me, sir…?"
Curious what a child might want from him, he turns his head to look at them. He lets out a clipped "Yes?". Though he had no intention for it to come out unkind. Apparently today the hold on his mask is far looser than he thought.
Astonishingly the child isn't deferred by his sharpness. With a tilt to their head they ask the last question he expected. Which it shouldn't have been, considering the circumstances.
"What do you have in those bags?"
He considers for a moment what to do. Ignore, not ignore, lie or not. But he sees no harm in answering truthfully. He shifts his hold to open one of the bags so the child can see inside. He says "Bread." with more stable tone, but still has some curtness to it.
He sees their eyes widen with wonder. Their mouth goes slack in shock. They look back up at him in seconds asking if they can have one.
He agrees. One package less won't interfere with overall choice of the less fortunate. There's always more than enough bread left over. Not many choose food over a lottery ticket.
They rush off after saying "Gamsahabnida, sir!". And he goes about his routine. He approaches men, among which only one chose to take the packaged bread and immediately inhaled it. The few women there are a different matter. Within the four only one chose lottery. It always seems like females are smarter in that regard. It's never enough though.
But today, there was something about their choices that kept adding fuel to his already bad mood. He stops in the front, puts down his suitcase and the bags. Then he takes one bag after the other and spills their contents to the ground. Homeless crowd moves with confused apprehension. He pays them no mind.
He feels a twitch of apathy at the quantity. This pile of bread shows exactly why natural selection is so important. Here's proof that humanity's advancement in medicine not only helped raise quality of life, but also allowed inferior genes to survive. Some characteristics should've died out a long time ago.
"Why would you throw away perfectly good food like that?" Unbelievable. The audacity of the question. Doesn't the damn hypocrite hear himself? He declined it, preferred a hopeless chance at winning lottery over nutrition.
The revolting scum reaches for the bread. The entitlement astounds him and he won't let it stand. He crushes the bread with his shoe. But he gains no satisfaction witnessing the uncomprehending expression. "I gave you a chance, and you made your choice."
It doesn't register in their microscopic brains. His voice raises: "I'm not the one who threw these away." he point at the ground to emphasize, "It's you, ladies and gentlemen."
But he observes no shift in their expressions or postures. No change. No remorse. Nothing.
Their lack of critical thinking and absolute absence of self-awareness among them drive him into a frenzy.
He stomps and jumps with fervor, squashing as many bread buns as he can. He unleashes on these packages his tightly contained frustration and anger toward this crowd, his boss and that stupid player 456.
His energy runs out fairly quickly but he feels slightly better for it.
He presses his hands against his face, applying pressure to further ground him to the present. Tries to fix his hair then straighten hus spine and tucks in the tie.
He look around to see which packages survived the ordeal. He picks up each one that did and puts them back into the bag. The ungrateful vermin don't deserve good things that's clear.
He's back hiding away behind his calm and unbothered mask. He makes a move to turn around and leave when he sees them. The same child that inquired after the bread.
They're still here? Why? If they saw his actions, why do they remain around? And… are they doing homework?!
He finds himself puzzled and his feet lead him to them automatically. He can't avert his eyes from the sight. Apparently unbothered by the scene he caused just now. He stands there casting a shadow over their book.
You startle and seem in a hurry to make space for him to sit. Except… It looks like you want to get away entirely. He doesn't want that. He takes hold of your wrist to stop you.
"It's fine, I don't mind." He aims for a reassuring smile and doesn't know if he succeeds. "If I may ask… Why are you here? Where are your parents?" Why are you alone when anything tragic can happen to you at anytime?
He notes you're a little nervous or shy but aren't hostile toward him. "At work… Mom doesn't pick me up until later." How much later? He's a psychopathic man who keeps up a facade on a daily basis just to pass as normal; and even he knows it's negligent to leave someone so small and innocent without protection. Wasn't there a saying or a quote telling children should be cherished? Is society at such a low point it's acceptable nowadays? A spark of anger lights up within him, again. Your voice brings him back from his thoughts.
"Thank you again for the bread. It was delicious." Such a polite child. He notes that you still hang on that book for dear life.
He slows his words intentionally, softens his tone to not unnerve you further. "Did I frighten you, little one? Are you scared of me?"
He observes your body, hands are shaking a little, fingers twitching at the book cover.
"… My parents don't like it when I refuse to eat either. But usually I have to eat it when dad tells me so. Even if I don't like the taste."
You answer quietly, but oh. Hearing that you not only understand his actions but your dad forces you to eat something you don't enjoy. That's a brand of cruelty that he finds distasteful. Forcing anybody to anything they're unwilling to is atrocious. At least, he manipulates and twists other's perspections until people agree by themselves. He has enough finesse to do it the correct way after all.
"Is that so?" You only nod your head. Moreover you're not as tense anymore. Maybe that's what spurs him on to ask the next question, even if it has the ability to anger him further. "How old are you?" He leans in quickly enough to hear you say ten.
T e n .
"You're ten?" He voices his disbelief so quietly he doesn't know if he made any noise. He looks to his right then left almost looking for any possible threat because this child is ten years old and alone, left to their own devices. He's breathless for a moment, because at this discovery he feels unreasonably protective. "…and how long will it be until your mother picks you up?" His eyes take every detail of your face, hoping that it won't be long. But his hopes are crushed like the bread beforehand.
"It's usually 4:48PM…" What kind of parent leaves a child alone for 3 hours?! Truly horrible one, apparently.
"…I'm a big kid." Ohh… The instinct to kill anyone who would even dare to ruin that innocence overwhelms him for a second. He harshly tugs on his control to smile pleasantly at you, "Then you wouldn't mind my company then?"
He receives a shake of your head as an answer. It's so frustratingly easy to have your trust. How come nobody took advantage of that already, he does not know. But he will try his best to keep an eye out for you from now on.
Which he'd be doing a poor job since, at some point, you seemed to have disappeared into thin air from one second to the next. He grew alarmed instantly when he didn't see you next to him. Looking around for you or possible suspects wondering how he didn't notice anyone move. That was until he heard a giggle. He whips around to see a child's shadow behind the tree. He felt instant relief, his heart slowing it's alarming rate.
Apparently someone thought it'd be a good idea to play hide and seek without telling him. And since you're not in danger…
Well… Two can play that game.
"Little one? Where have you gone to?" Another muffled giggle can be heard. "I didn't get to become friends with you properly…" He overexaggerates his sadness. "How will I play with you when I don't even know your name little flower?" He stomps his foot dramatically, childishly, "And now you're gone and we won't meet anymore. Because I don't know how to find you…"
Now those adorable giggles turn into full blown laughter. You step away from the tree and easily run to him to hug his legs.
"You're so silly! We're already friends!" He hugs back to the best of his abilities. And says with, not even faked, surprise: "Really?! I didn't know that!"
"Besides we can meet here in the park, I come here after school, most of the time."
He feels a gentle smile on his face. Being in your presence for such a short time already make him feel lighter and his world a little brighter. Such an easy happiness. "That's good."
"Yeah, also my names is (y/n)! Now you know me." You clap your hands, excited, and go to sit on the bench again.
(y/n), what a beautiful name. I'll protect you, (y/n). No harm will come to you.
He looks at his wristwatch. 4:04. Soon you're getting home. He will walk you there.
When he asks if he can, you agree, again. Turns out he could only walk you to the school gates. Your mother picking you up with a car.
He chose to depart from you, but he stayed to observe from afar. He was displeased since it looked like the mother is malnourished as well as tired. Most of the fault lies solely on your father then. She at least looks a little overworked. It's clear your parents are unfit for the responsibility of caring for a child.
Soon (y/n) will rely on him for everything. He can't wait to meet again.

Back to Reader's POV
When you were finally let out of the closet you were tired. Emotionally drained. You couldn't draw for Mr. Loaf Man now, since you didn't have any energy. You went to the bathroom almost immediately.
Now you are laying on your bed, under the comfort of your blanket and beloved plushie. You pray you'll have time to draw something tomorrow at school. You already put your crayons in your backpack. You just need time. It doesn't even matter to you how it'll turn out. But you can't, won't go empty handed.
You fall into dreamless slumber.
And so you wake up next morning and go through the motions until you're at school. Then at breaks you sit somewhere on the sidelines, using the time to draw the most standard and boring drawing ever. First you did him then yourself. Then you drew a sun in the corner. You wrote who's who just in case. On the next break you drew the green grass and lastly the blue sky.
You're happy it's friday today. That means Mr. Loaf Man and the weekend.
When your lessons end you're in a hurry and have a slight spring in your step. You're basically vibrating with anticipation. You'll head straight to the same bench as yesterday.
But when you arrive… You gasp. He's already there waiting for you. You feel a wide grin spread on your face in happiness. When he notices you, his expression lifts as well.
"Hello (y/n). We're giddy today aren't we?"
"Yes!" You nod your head quickly a couple of times, it made you dizzy. "I have something for you, Mr. Loaf Man!" His eyes widen at that. Whether it's your nickname for him or your gift you don't know. You take off your backpack and immediately open it to reach the drawing.
"I'm sorry it's not good and not pretty enough but I was in a hurry." You hand it to him. He holds it gently as if afraid of crumbling it. He looks at it for a long time in complete silence. So much so that slowly your proud smile gets smaller and smaller. "You don't like it…?" Your voice wavers slightly under your sadness. Your blurry eyes make their way from his face to focusing on his tie.
"What-?" His voice croaks as if he didn't speak for days. "I love it."
You look up at that. "Really?" His face is unguarded. His eys are shiny, one tear already ran down his left cheek. His eyebrows are twitching as if they're unsure which way to go.
"Of course, it's just… it's been… s-such a long while since I got a gift. And one so, so lovely and meaningful as well." He open his arms offering a hug. You take him up on it. His grip on you is unyielding. "Come on, don't cry. There's no need." You hoop your arms around his neck and press your face to his shoulder. He picks you up into his lap. "I appreciate your efforts behind this, alright?" is gently whispered to your ear. You choose this moment to pat his hair, in — what you hope for — is a soothing gesture. You don't know if you succeeded since he started trembling.
He doesn't let you go for a long while. But you don't either.
When both of you are back to decently presentable — and not falling apart — you break away from each other.
"I have something for you too. Nothing as thoughtful though…" He takes the grocery bag that was next to him and reaches inside. He passes to you another packaged bread. You take it and immediately dig in. You thank him for it. "Are you going to offer food to them again? Or did you already did that today?"
He looks at you then to the homeless then back to you. "No and no. I think I'll give them a week to think over their actions, hmm?" He tilts his head in askance.
But you nod your head, "Makes sense. I do that at home too. Maybe it'll work for them too."
His eyes narrow, "What do you mean?"
"When I refuse to eat, I have to. And when i waste food, usually it's after I throw up. I don't get to eat to make up for all the wasted food." You smile up at him, "That's why I like you, sir. You're very kind and fun but you're very fair. But…" You take a thoughtful expression, "I don't get it… why refuse food? They need it after all and unlike me, it's not easily available to them. It'd be really stupid if they did the same in a week."
You focus back on the man's face only to be met with an impressed and proud expression. You feel your cheeks warm up at that look.
"You're very smart and observant, little one;" his soft voice prods at your shyness, "not everyone sees it the same way you do."
When your eyes don't lift from the ground, he speaks up again. "Do you wish to stay here or go somewhere else?"
You look up at him in question.
"What? I have some ideas…"

Salesman's POV
He finds his yesterday's behavior a little ridiculous. Moreover over a child he barely knows anything about. He couldn't put his obssessive focus towards learning more. With only their name and the fact (y/n) has horrendous parents.
Unfortunately for him, he didn't pay any attention to their mother's car registration plate. At least then he'd have a starting point. At this point in time however he can look into the school. The type of students there and the staff.
It did nothing to calm his mind.
He spent his time in bed thinking of many ways to bring them closer to him. How he should go with disposing their parents when he finally learns where you live.
The following morning he wakes from restless sleep and stayed that way throughout his day. Five people he approached to recruit and each time his hand was twitching to use the pent up energy on slapping the trash.
Arriving to the park at similar time as the day before wasn't a problem. Although he automatically sits down on the same bench. Call him overeager and impatient all you want. He has enough patience to wait for you.
And waiting for you he was. He didn't even learn if you have time to come here today.
But he shouldn't have worried, he sees your small form approaching him with clear joy. The moment he notices you, he feels his mood improve. He's not even sure if he manages to contain his own happiness over your eagerness.
"Hello (y/n). We're giddy today aren't we?"
"Yes! I have something for you, Mr. Loaf Man!" His eyes widen at that. Loaf man? However did you come up with that? And did he hear correctly..? You brought something for him?
Quickly your backpack's on the ground and a paper's in your hands. He looks at the paper and his breathing stops. A drawing.
You made a drawing for him, of him and you. "I'm sorry it's not good and pretty enough but I was in a hurry." He can't tear his eyes away from it. He gingerly accepts it from you. Your hands did this. For him. You spent enough of your time thinking about him, in good light nonetheless, that you had to put your thoughts and feelings on paper. It's the most precious thing he came across in a long time.
"You don't like it…?" He barely catches your voice. But when he registers the insecurity in it. He finally looks at you, however it does little, because he doesn't know when he started tearing up.
"What-?" His voice croaks from the sheer pressure of emotions. But he'll sooner kill himself than make you feel inadequate, unappreciated, unloved. "I love it." You have to know that.
"Really?" Fragile hope in your voice is enough to render his tailored armor useless. How does he explain?
"Of course, it's just…" he breathes deeply, "it's been… s-such a long while since I got a gift." Does he even remember the last time? "And one so, so lovely and meaningful as well." He needs to hold you. In this moment he craves to bring you as close as he can to his normally unfeeling heart. He open his arms in invitation.
You take him up on it too.
He grips you strongly. You can't leave him. Not when you demolished his foundation, unearthing emotions he never thought he could feel. You simply can't. He'll lose himself completely.
"Come on, don't cry. There's no need." He doesn't know if it's directed at you or himself. Your small arms wrap around his neck, your face tries to bury itself in his shoulder. He picks you up to hold onto you more comfortably. He presses his head against yours. "I appreciate your efforts behind this, alright?"
His thumb moves up and down on your back. He drowns in his overwhelming love for you. That's when he feels your hand. Your fingers going through his hair, petting him.
Here he is. A monster reduced into quivering mess. Wrapped around your little finger. You're such a devious yet innocent little marvel. You don't even do this on purpose. To have him ready and willing to bend to your every whim in no time at all.
It takes a long while for both of you to calm down and for him to regain his control. You break away from each other when you're sure neither of you won't fall apart all over again.
"I have something for you too. Nothing as thoughtful though…" He reaches next to him for the bag he nearly forgot about. Since he can't trust your parents about your nutrition, he'll take it upon himself. Three hours is a long time for you to grow hungry anyway. There's no harm in providing food. You take the bread from him and with a quick thank you start eating.
"Are you going to offer food to them again? Or did you already did that today?"
He looks at you. You never even talked to them and you're concerned for them. He looks at their pathetic figures, lying, wasting away in the sun. They're undeserving of your concern. He looks back at you and your questioning expression.
"No and no." He shakes his head, he doesn't even want to think about them much less approach. Even if he knows he'll have to at some point. "I think I'll give them a week to think over their actions, hmm?" He tilts his head in mimicry of your action yesterday.
And just like the other times, you don't question his actions nor motives. You simply nod your pretty head.
"Makes sense. I do that at home too. Maybe it'll work for them too."
His eyes narrow at that.
"What do you mean?" He can feel his shackles raising. Such a dangerous territory…
"When I refuse to eat, I have to. And when i waste food, usually it's after I throw up. I don't get to eat to make up for all the wasted food."
So not only is your father shoving food down your throat… He starves you for not holding it down as well. If he ever gets his hands on that repulsive monster, he'll make sure he suffers greatly for his sins.
Your large smile grounds him away from his plans. Even if that smile shouldn't be so wide after talking about your abuse. How did your innocence survive the ordeal?
"That's why I like you, sir. You're very kind and fun but you're very fair."
Him? Fair? Kind? He's flattered you think so, but he doesn't see it. It's probably because your childish view wasn't ruined. You never saw him do anything truly monstrous. He'll make sure you don't.
"But.. I don't get it… why refuse food? They need it after all and unlike me, it's not easily available to them. It'd be really stupid if they did the same in a week." Your pout is very cute and he'd probably focus on it for longer if not for what you said.
You intelligent and observant little creature, you make him feel emotions he didn't before. He's impressed how someone so young can be smarter than the common person. Maybe there's still hope after all. You might not have been acquaintanced for long, barely a day, but he feels pride for your astuteness. He latched onto you. You're his; his light in this dark world with deceptive roads and sharp curves covered with shadows. He'll nurture that intelligence to the best of his abilities.
He sees you blush at his attention, poor thing… You must be so unused to positive attention. He won't let it continue. With a softness he didn't know he's capable of, he voices the compliments. "You're very smart and observant, little one; not everyone sees it the same way you do."
When you still don't look up, he speaks again. This time on a different topic, away from his admiration. Baby steps.
"Do you wish to stay here or go somewhere else?" It works wonders. You look up with a question in your eyes. "What? I have some ideas…
…What do you think about ice-cream?" His suggestion makes your eyes light up with excitement. His world is a little brighter for it.
He'd take you to every shop and buy you anything you'd briefly glance at if that's how you'll look everytime. Just for a chance to see your smiles again.
After ice-cream, you spent the time by simply being in each other's company. You wanted to go back to the park and so you did, but this time to a different part of it. Far away from those hopeless causes. The time flew past just as quickly as the day before. But this time when he walked you to your school's gate and left to observe from afar. He remembered to memorise the licence plate.
He can get to know you to his heart's content. But first, home.

I feel like my brand of weirdness clashed with Salesman's diffrent kind of freak; but I don't think he's too OOC..?
I hope you liked it. <3 There are other parts I have in store, but they can act as stand alone. Tell me if you want me to write them.

"I love this." You murmur while grinning, you did love this. A bit too much probably. Having your hot ass boss tied to his office chair by his belt and blindfolded by a black bandanna he had lying around in one of his desk drawers. Not to mention his thick cock standing up, laying against his covered chest.
"Mama please, wan' see you." He said in a whiny voice. He looked so pretty like this, pre-cum spilling from his tip and running down the side of his thick cock, his plump rosy lips parted, his hips lifting off the chair as he humped the air, desperate to get some friction to his aching member.
You chuckled at him as you took out your phone to snap a quick picture. "Not a chance baby, mommy's gonna have fun with you yeah?" You said as you threw your phone on the office couch. You went over to him and wrapped your fingers around his aching cock, your lips kissing his jaw.
You jerked him off at a teasingly slow pace, making sure you could feel every vein. Saying your panties were soaked is an understatement. But that could wait. "Cmon matty mama wants to hear you." He let out a few soft moans here and there, but it's clear he was faking it. Your hand wasn't doing the job.
"What's the matter?" You asked as you removed your hand. "Just wanna feel you mommy please. Wanna feel you taking me." "Yeah?" You said as you took your own clothing off, putting your panties in his drawer for him to find at work tomorrow. You wanted to take his shirt off so badly, but you also wanted to keep him tied up.
The moment you sank onto him he was a mess. Moans and whimpers left his mouth. You loved it, of course you did but there was also something about the way he took your fingers in his mouth with zero hesitation that made you turned on more than anything.
Matt gladly took your fingers in his mouth as his hips rutted up to meet yours. "Fuck—such a good slut f'me huh? Letting me ride you like this while—you can't see me or touch me. Bet it's fucking killing ya." He whined at your words, of course it was killing him not being able to see your perfect body taking his cock so well.
"Shit—baby 'm almost there. Gonna be a good boy and cum for mommy?" He nodded eagerly and a smirk played on your lips. "Yeah atta boy, can see how deep you are—holy fuck." You looked down at the noticeable bulge in your stomach that he was giving you.
"Matt I'm gonna cum, cum in me yeah?" That was all you, and Matt needed before you both finished together. You kept riding him through both of your orgasms as a white ring formed at the base of his cock. You took your fingers out of his mouth. "Take this fucking bandana off and get the belt off of my wrists, wanna bend you over my desk again." He said, and you gladly started taking off the bandana.
A/N: star divider is by @mattscoquette I believe. I need to actually start writing the plot for this au LMAO.

i told you, first rule of skinny dipping, don’t do it!

part 1 of oh, it's you (jj maybank x shoupe!reader)
summary: you meet jj on the beach where you went skinny dipping. well, you know him, but does he know you?
cw: none
masterlist
Every Saturday morning, like clockwork, you opened your eyes around 5 AM, brushed your teeth, said hello to your dog Kiwi, and grabbed your longboard. It’s important for a girl to have little rituals, and this one was yours, riding to the beach for a quick skinny dip before all the commotion of the day started.
Weekends were the busiest for your dad at the station, so you were mostly on your own, just you and Kiwi. You rescued Kiwi 2 years ago, when he was a little puppy left alone next to the station. Neither you nor your dad could say no to those big sad eyes, and before you knew it, he was ruling your world. He grew up to be huge, some kind of shepherd mix, with pointy ears and big paws. Training him was a big pain in your ass, but you pushed through and it paid off. You wouldn’t trade him for the world.
“C'mon boy, time for our morning workout!” You didn’t bother with a leash, Kiwi wouldn’t leave your side, always listening to your voice. You were laying all your hope on today's dip, needing it to just let go and be one with the ocean after the fight you had with your dad last night.
It’s always the same, he wants you to come work at the station, doing paperwork, learning the secrets of the trade or whatever. You say no every single time, but he’s not letting it go. Well, neither are you. You want to make movies, not get stuck in OBX, following orders from freaking kooks.
The island is slowly waking up, vendors putting out their signs, nodding lightly at you when you and Kiwi pass them. Arriving at your favorite beach, one you discovered a year ago while randomly riding around, you put out your towel, tell Kiwi to wait, and strip down.
You run into the water, diving under the surface, welcoming the slight chill of it. You hold your breath for as long as you can, shutting your mind off completely. When you can't do it anymore, you come up for air and just float, squinting at the sky, your hearing muffled by the bobbing waves. So, even though your ears are partly covered by the water, you can still hear something going on in the distance. You think nothing of it until you hear Kiwi barking and growling.
Quickly snapping your head up, you yell out to the dog, “Kiwi! What’s up, boy?” It is then you see someone approaching, carrying a surfboard under his arm, his chest bare. The sun hits your eyes just so you can’t really see who it is.
“Kiwi, quiet,” you order the dog, and he obeys but stays alert.
“Damn, didn’t ya train him well.” Well, the voice was easily recognizable as belonging to JJ Maybank, the pogue every girl wanted to bone and every kook wanted to beat bloody. You were seemingly the only one who steered clear of him. He was too reckless, too rash, and you couldn’t afford to make those mistakes.
Yeah, it was just your luck to have your first interaction with him while naked in the ocean, especially since you haven't seen anyone else coming to this beach since you discovered it.
“Wait, oh my god, just stay there!” You yell at him kinda hysterically when he starts walking towards the water. “No, wait, please grab me my towel!”
“Well, make up your mind mama. Want me to stay or move? You kinda bossy anyway, why -“ JJ’s questioning stops short when he realizes why it is you don’t want to grab the towel for yourself.
“Ohh, now I see. Are you a mermaid? Am I dreaming? Or wait, is this a nightmare, and you’re gonna take me to the bottom of the ocean?” He thinks he’s so funny, chuckling to himself, while you are squirming in your skin.
“Ha-ha very funny, Maybank”. He cocks his head at that, like a confused puppy, and you realize maybe you shouldn’t have called him that, you not being friends and all. “Can you just give me the towel? Please?”
“Who am I to say no when a pretty girl asks so nicely?” He starts towards your towel but stops short when Kiwi growls again. “Is your beast gonna eat me now?”
“Nah,” you flick your hand, “unless I tell him to.” JJ sighs and grabs your towel off the sand, careful to avoid Kiwi. “So, are you gonna come out and get it or you have any more orders, boss girl?”
“Could you please come as close as you can and close your eyes?” You want to get dressed and bolt home, done with this day already, and it’s not even 7 a.m.
“What are ya even hidin’ for? Nothin’ I haven’t seen before.”
“Trust me, I know.” You have heard the stories, you know what the girls from school are saying about him and his skills.
“Are ya slut-shaming me?” He puts his palm on his chest, acting offended, eyes wide. “What? No! I don’t care about y-“ you groan lightly, looking up at the sky, wishing for a divine intervention.
“Okay, okay, here ya go.” Finally, JJ closes his eyes and steps into the water, giving you the towel. You quickly snatch it and wrap it around yourself. “You can open your eyes now. And the beach is all yours, I’m out.”
His eyes travel up and down your body, slowing when they reach your legs, glistening with water droplets. “Cool tattoos,” he says, pointing out your sun and moon tattoos on your thighs. “And you don’t have to leave on my account.”
“Thanks, and yeah, I do.” You gather your shit, beckon Kiwi to follow and start going back to the road.
“See ya around, boss.” You just roll your eyes and continue walking. Your back is turned, so you can't see it, but JJ's lips stretch into an amused smirk.

I tried to write for another character but Shinji LITERALLY stormed into my room, flipped my desk, threw my laptop, broke my phone, spit on me and DEMANDED I write for him again
*
*
*
You'd been stressing and working long hours lately, catching little sleep. Today was another long one, running on only a few hours of rest. It was hardly evening, and you'd surpassed your manic, delirious phase and were now crashing, nodding off, eyes fluttering closed only for you to snap your head back up and force your eyes to remain peeled. Shinji was thoroughly explaining something to you and you could not for the life of you catch a single word he was saying, each one going in one ear and out the other just as quickly. You tried and failed over and over again to focus. Pain stung your tired eyes and your body felt much heavier than usual, nearly impossible to keep upright.
At first, Captain Hirako hadn't noticed, too involved in the work at hand and talking through something with you. It wasn't until he glanced your way again and noticed how lifeless you looked that something wasn't right.
He stopped mid sentence, not that you were conscious enough to notice, "(Y/N)?" He asked, narrowing his eyes skeptically. "Are you feeling alright?"
Hearing your name coming out of his mouth awakened you, at least enough to snap back to attention for the moment. "Hm? Sorry?" You were too tired to even worry about the harsh look he was giving you.
Shinji sighed. "Yeah, that's what I thought."
He stood abruptly from where he sat, approaching you. He got on one knee before you, looking up to you with concern. "Have you been getting enough sleep? Or is something else bothering you?"
"I'm fine, really." You lazily waved a dismissive hand, lying about your unwell state out of habit. "Can you just repeat the last thing you said?"
"I think we should call it a day," he ignored you. "I'll walk you home."
"Captain." You forced yourself to stand, trying to prove that you were of sound mind. You couldn't have yourself getting in trouble. "I don't think that's necessary. The task at hand is more important."
Shinji slowly rose, looking stern. "It is necessary. We can't do quality work if you can hardly stay awake."
He moved away to gather his belongings. You stayed where you were, guilt and worry waking you a little more and adding to your list of pains. It was too late. You were in trouble.
Speaking less formally now and more as his friend, you asked him, "are you mad at me?" You frowned while you waited for him to look at you, shuffling in place nervously.
"Of course I'm not mad," Shinji laughed at your puppy-dog behavior. "Just what kind of a guy do you think I am?"
"I wasn't even listening to you." You hung your head in shame. "I've failed you today."
"Don't be dramatic," he continued. "Taking care of yourself is the most important thing you can do - not this 'task at hand' nonsense you're spewing." You noticed that he had gathered your belongings as well while you were hesitating, holding them along with his. "Let's get going."
You followed him out of the office, a dreamy swell of adoration in your chest. "Oh, thank you."

*
You stood outside of your door with Shinji. The sun had set a little while ago, painting the landscape in the early stages of darkness. You could still see the Captain perfectly clear, turning to face him.
"Thank you again," you told him, voice coming out soft and wispy in your exhausted state.
"Let's meet again tomorrow at noon," he said seriously, reluctantly passing you your belongings. "Sleep in if you can."
"I will do my best." You forced a smile.
Neither of you moved. "Do you need anything?" Shinji asked gently. "Some tea or medicine to help you sleep?"
You were so tired, you doubted you needed anything to get to bed. "Tea would be nice actually." You supposed you were just looking for a chance to spend more time with him, even if it meant having to stay awake a little longer.
You'd always adored Shinji, and that adoration was further highlighted in moments like this, where he was putting you before your Soul Reaper work, encouraging you to take care of yourself and assisting you there.
He smiled, though it came out in that smirky way of his, like he as holding back laughter. Then he opened your door and went inside like he owned the place and was inviting you in. You followed, haphazardly discarding your belongings along the way.
You sat in your small kitchen as Shinji flowed about to make your tea, asking you simple questions here and there to navigate your kitchen. You were nodding off again when he placed the steaming mug before you, sitting across from you with his own cup to enjoy.
You sat in a comfortable silence with him, sipping tea. You were about halfway through your beverage when Shinji was at your side, his hand on your arm prepared to pull you up. You realized then you had been sitting there with your eyes closed, poised to pass out at any moment sitting in your kitchen.
"Let's get you to bed," he chuckled quietly, his voice sounding distant when you were halfway to the dream world. You loved that voice, trusted that voice. Right now it was a beacon of light for you to follow to get to sleep.
He pulled you out of your chair and stayed glued to your side, holding you upright, as the two of you went the short distance to your bedroom. As soon as you caught sight of your bed you went forward, unceremoniously collapsing onto the mattress.
"Do you have pjs?" He asked you, gesturing to your many drawers, though your face was buried in your comforter.
At the sound of pjs, you shot up, stumbling like a drunk over to the drawer that held your comfortable night clothing. You made quick work of pulling it open and grabbing the first thing on top, which happened to be a rather scandalous, frilly, girly nightdress. Without thinking, immediately after you slammed your dresser shut you began dropping your uniform, undressing right then and there to hurriedly get into the cozy material.
"What are you - you maniac!" Shinji quickly spun around and crossed his arms over his chest. Even if you didn't care or notice, he wasn't going to take advantage of you while you were in such a vulnerable state and watch you while you got naked. He didn't turn back to look at you again until he heard the sound you thumping back into bed, your Soul Reaper uniform left messily where you had dropped it from your body.
His jaw dropped when he saw you, splayed out on your stomach, wearing that ridiculously short gown that hardly covered anything. He felt like he was being tested by the universe, catching the slightest glimpse of your panties peaking out beneath your pajamas as you lay with one leg hiked up and the other hanging straight down.
He sighed in frustration, looking away from your ass and to your defeated figure as a whole atop your mattress. He came forward, scooping you up to pull you further up the bed so he could pull the comforter over you and hide your curves from his view. You stirred and turned to help him, flipping over to tuck your knees in, making room to push your legs under the heap of blankets.
When he saw your frontside, he was sure then. He was definitely being tested. Not only did the nightdress hardly cover your backside, but your cleavage was on full display too, the dainty, girlish fabric hardly covering each of your breasts. Shinji had never seen so much of your body with the modest way you wore your uniform. Now, one of your tits was threatening to spill out of the tiny strap holding it up, and Shinji was torn between looking away and trying to help tuck you in. All the while you were oblivious to his mental struggles, scooting in and pulling the comforter up to your chest, where your breasts were still exposed. Feeling perverted, Shinji grabbed it and yanked it up the rest of the way to your chin.
"Shinji?" You asked with your eyes closed.
"Yeah?" He gulped, prepared for the worst. You were about to call him out for being a perv, for staring at your ass and your tits while you were just so sleepy and oblivious.
But then, "you're the only one looking out for me," you mumbled tiredly and affectionately.
The Captain was able to breathe again, smiling at your cute, delirious talk. "Get some rest, okay?"
You went on. "I'll miss you."
"Miss me?" He laughed quietly.
You'd have never spoken this way to him when you were of right mind. He knew he should tell you to stop talking and go to bed before you spewed something you regretted, but he was too curious and admiring how sweet and fragile you looked and sounded while you were drifting off to sleep, wearing your revealing, princess-like nightdress. He was enjoying seeing this other side of you a little too much to be in such a hurry to leave. Maybe he really was perverted, perverted for your heart for sure.
"Yeah. Until I see you again tomorrow," you explained. "I hope I see you in my dreams."
If he was just as delirious, he'd tell you that he'd miss you too, that he missed you every time you were apart. "You really are tired," he said instead, laughing uncomfortably.
You opened your eyes slightly to watch him. "Will you stay until I fall asleep?" You asked hopefully.
He frowned, at war with himself. "I don't think that will take very long."
"Will you?"
It wasn't possible for him to tel you no when you looked at him like that. "I will."
"Thank you. I-" you wanted to say something badly, but the words never came.
"Yeah?" Shinji raised his eyebrows expectantly, in impatient anticipation.
You shook your head to yourself, fending off whatever thought that was trying to escape. "Thank you," you repeated again, shutting your eyes for the final time tonight.
Shinji was right that it didn't take long for you to fall asleep. He waited and listened for the steady, rhythmic sound of your breathing before rising, stopping to take one last look at your sleeping form, to sear this into his memory. As softly as he could, he reached out to push some stray hairs out of your face, yearning to do more, but knowing that he couldn't.
"Sleep tight, lovebug. I hope I see you in my dreams too."
When you woke the next morning, feeling rested at last, the first thing you noticed was that your room smelt pleasantly like Shinji, bringing back memories of the previous night. The last you remembered was sitting at the kitchen table, having tea with him. You wondered what transpired afterwards, how you got to bed, and were surprised that you were so exhausted you couldn't even properly remember.
When you saw what you were wearing underneath the comforter, you cringed at yourself, hoping that he hadn't seen your pjs and if he had, embarrassed that you had looked so slutty in front of the Captain. The sight of yourself mixed with the ghost of his scent in the room made you feel like a pervert. You were already starting to prepare an explanation for yourself, thinking of telling him it was laundry day, but then, how could you even bring this up to him? Maybe it'd be best to ignore it altogether, pretend like it hadn't happened, though you knew you wouldn't ever be able to forget.
And then when you got out of bed and saw the tea cups in the sink, you were thinking of him again. Shinji Hirako had already invaded your mind nearly every moment of every day, and now he had invaded your personal space as well, making it increasingly difficult to stop thinking of him inappropriately. It made your heart ache with desire and longing, his fleeting scent, his tea cup next to yours. He was just here, and you already missed him, already wanted to see him again. It was agony, having to smell his presence in your home when he wasn't here.
You looked at the clock, remembering his words about meeting at noon. It was still morning. That didn't stop you from pulling on your uniform and robes, scarfing down a quick and simple breakfast, wanting to see him more than you wanted to rest. You headed for his office earlier than you were supposed to. You knew he'd be there already, and you were way too excited.
Something needed to be done about this.

💫It’s okay to be sad💫

✨Pairing: Jongho x afab!reader ✨Prompt: When sadness takes over boyfriend Jongho is there with kind words and sweet gestures. ✨Genre: fluff, not really angst but sadness? non idol au ✨Word count: 1.6k ☀️Authors note: Not my best work but bad days = a need for fluffy fics catered to yourself so yeah this is purely self indulgent for myself and what I needed to hear after this day.

Today had just been a day where sadness was just overwhelming you. Any misstep or mistake at work made the tears well up in your eyes and the lump in your throat grow tighter. It felt unbearable especially when you hade made a mistake which had caused a person in a higher position to be annoyed at you.
You knew that most people could spot you weren't happy today, not that it was hard to spot, your eyes were glossy with tears and slightly red and your nose had turned a bit read as well from blowing your nose over and over again in the bathroom. Someone had even mentioned they could see it through your entire body language, they had told you you didn’t look well and that they were worried for you, one person even suggested you’d call in and take the day off tomorrow to focus on yourself.
You hadn't done many mistakes at all today but the ones you did make made you feel like the whole world would crash and your thoughts running wild with anxiety and overthinking every single interaction. Despite everyone who noticed you were upset reassuring you that there was nothing to be worried about or feel upset about it don’t make the feeling go away. For some reason the sadness only grew. So once your shift ended you had hurried to change into your regular clothes before hurrying back home as quickly as you could not wanting to spend another minute at work.
Feeling tired and suffocated.
The walk up to your and your boyfriend's shared apartment was slow, a feeling of exhaustion taking over your body as you open the door. It felt good despite the overwhelming feeling of tiredness and emptiness in your entire body to finally be home in a space where no one would judge you.
As you open the door you can hear your boyfriend Jongho shuffling around in the kitchen as he hums a tune.
"Y/n darling? Is that you?" You hear him say in a giddy voice as he rounds the corner to come greet you. You take him in, his cheeks are round and slightly rosy and his brown hair is slightly curled giving him that teddy bear look you adore.
"Hello my love." He says with a gummy smile but when he spots your face, the red eyes and the unshed tears his smile drops.
"Are you upset? Has anything happened love?" He takes a step towards you with worry and he waits patiently for you to hang your jacket and take off your shoes before taking your hands in his. Gently caressing them as he allows you to take your time to speak if you want to share whatever it is that is bothering you.
"It's just... you know one of those days where your emotions run wild and everything feels like shit and the smallest mistake feels enormous." You tell him, your voice thick with emotion as you once again fight the tears from falling down your cheeks.
"I understand sweetheart. It's okay to have those days you know? I have them as well. Is there anything I can do for you? To make it feel better?" He asks gently and you shrug not knowing what could make it better.
"Not really."
"Can I give you a hug? I give really good hugs you know." He offers gently and that's something you can't say no to.
Jonghos hugs are always comforting and they feel safe and that's what you need right now. Comfort and a safe place so you nod at him and he is quick to bring you in for a hug. Hugging you tightly as he kisses the side of your temple.
"It's okay to be sad love, you can let it out." He murmurs and you can feel the tears fall from your eyes as you hide your face in the crook of his neck, hugging him back just as tight.
Jongho holds you for however long you need, only ever pulling back when he feels you moving indicating you feel that you have had enough. You stand there for a good 10 minutes as you cry and snivel into his shirt and when you break the hug you try and clean his shirt to which he tells you it's okay and not to worry about it, he can always throw it in the wash later he says.
"Was there anything at work that made you feel even worse?" He asks and you nod.
"Yeah I couldn't find some meat for an order but when I asked last Friday I understood it as the kitchen was taking care of that and the potatoes and I didn't have to do anything. But apparently that was wrong of me to think when that's what she said when I asked her. And then I couldn't find it at first so I looked every where over and over, I looked in the meat fridge, the freezer, the vegetable fridge like everywhere! And I could feel her growing annoyed with me, mentioning that I should have said something during Friday if I couldn't find it and you know then she found it two seconds later when she started searching because it was under the cheese but in that basket it looked like it was only cheese and I don't know it just felt like I made a huge mistake because I misunderstood what she meant and then I personally felt like she was annoyed when I tried to explain why I thought she meant that way." You ramble on and you're not entirely sure Jongho understands the situation but he nods nonetheless.
"Well, if she said that the kitchen takes care of it she should have specified what exactly or just told you that this particular thing they didn't take care of so you'd know. I wouldn't say that's something to blame on you my love. This whole thing where you're packing orders, it's a lot, it's easy to miss a product when they arrive with a bunch of other things and I'd say it's logical that you'd assume there was only cheese in that basket. And you guys fixed it before that order had to go out right?" He asks and you nod as you wipe a tear from your cheek. "Then there is no reason for her to be annoyed. Yes, perhaps it is annoying and scary of not knowing what to do if you're missing something and the time the order is going out is soon but at the same time we're all humans and we can all make mistakes. Wasn't this the same person who by mistake put the wrong date on one order and then on another put too little of the food they had actually ordered?"
"It was." You mumble looking down and Jonghos hand goes to gently grasp your chin to make you look at him.
"Then it is not the end of the world. Even the sun has spots, we all make mistakes that's what makes us humans and now both of you have learned something from this situation. I can promise you that she's not annoyed at you and if she is that's a very dumb reason to be." He tells you and you nod leaning in to hug him again which he gladly lets you do, allowing his arms to come around you once more.
"How about we have a cozy evening you and I? You go and hop into the shower, you can sit under the scalding hot water and I run down to the supermarket and buy your favorite ice cream and snacks and drinks and then when I get back I can join you in the shower for a bit to relax under the warm water, you know we can sit and cuddle under the stream. Then when we get out we'll get dressed in our warm pajamas and fluffy socks and we'll order pizza and watch Pongo or something. Would that make it slightly better?" He asks as he leans his head on yours and you nod.
"I'd like that."
"Then that's what we'll do. And if you still feel sad I can help you call in sick tomorrow and we'll spend our entire day tomorrow cuddling together."
"You'd do that for me?" You glance up towards him and you find him looking at you with adoring eyes.
"I'd do anything for you my love."
"Thank you Jongho, I really needed to hear that after today. I don't know, I feel so bad for feeling so sad and all." You tell him sniffling.
"Don't feel bad, sometimes we just need to allow ourselves to feel sad, the only important thing is we talk to someone about it and don't let ourselves stay in the negative feeling for too long. Sadness is sometimes a good thing as well but for now we'll focus on making it less intense, it doesn't have to go away entirely just less intense so we can enjoy ourselves together." He says earnestly before giving your tearstained cheek a kiss.
"I love you so much."
"I love you more. Now go get into the shower, I'll join you once I'm back from shopping and then we will just cuddle the night away."
He gently pushes you towards the bathroom with a smile as he goes to put on his shoes, telling you he won't be gone too long. You can't help but feel a bit calmer after speaking to him, the sadness still present but not as overwhelming as it's been since you woke up early this morning.
And perhaps after today, it will only be a small pool of sadness within you as love takes its place in the form of your loving boyfriend and all the things he does for you.
