My Absolute Favorite Archer Characters

I've decided that the Ahsoka show is probably at its best when the characters AREN'T SPEAKING. Which is unfortunate because it's a show that relies so much on its fun visuals and its fan service and its one-liners to do a lot of the work, and yet the characters talk so much without saying much of anything at all. Certainly nothing of any real importance or that pays off later.

I rewatched episode 5 today and was just hit by how much I genuinely loved the scene where Ahsoka goes to interact with the badly wounded clone during the Ryloth flashback sequence. It hit me when I first watched it as well and stuck with me as the best scene out of the entire episode, probably the best scene in the entire show so far. Everyone else was screaming about the Vader flickers and I'm over here obsessing over Ahsoka just silently walking over to an injured clone, sitting down to touch his hand, and the clone silently reaching over to place his hand atop hers. The whole scene probably takes place over about 20 seconds at MOST, and it's entirely without dialogue.

And it's PERFECT.

We get to just watch Ariana Greenblatt's face as she cycles through grief and pain and love for this clone whose name she may not even know or remember anymore and joy that he's still able to reach out to her to provide HER comfort when he feels her hand on his arm. We can't even see the clone's face, we're stuck looking at Ahsoka work through the emotions of this single interaction and how deeply it impacts her. It reminds us that the clones were people she knew, people she loved, people she felt responsible for protecting. These were her friends and they loved her, too. And so many of them died, while she still lives.

It lasts 20 seconds and doesn't have a single line of dialogue and it tells us SO MUCH about Ahsoka's relationship to the clones, both then and now. It tells us so much about how she feels about the war, the men she loved, and the fact that so many of them were lost, long before Order 66 happened. And she was powerless to stop any of it. We don't need dialogue to understand what she's feeling in this moment because they actually stopped to let the actor and the scene speak for itself, in the simplest possible way.

And then compare it to the scene where Ahsoka connects to the purrgil. SHE'S not speaking, but we keep cutting away from Ahsoka to listen to Jacen chattering away at Hera ("Is she going to speak to the purrgil?" "That's the idea" "Is the whale going to take her to Ezra?" "That's the hope, kid") and basically spelling out the plan and the scene for us in a way that we really did not need, especially since they have Ahsoka and Huyang basically explain it themselves later anyway. We're also cutting away to Carson Teva blathering to the Fleet Commander and stalling for time, despite the fact that we absolutely did not actually need to see that happen. So the emotion of the moment where Ahsoka is connecting with the purrgil keeps getting undercut by all of this extraneous dialogue by the other characters that is adding nothing to the plot or the scene. The additional dialogue also makes the scene last a lot longer, so it feels like Ahsoka's standing there for an age before anything happens. It's a LOT longer than the quick scene between her and the clone, but it's massively less impactful.

I love feral characters. I love wolf-coded characters. Not in the way that they're noble creatures of battle (but yes that too) but when they're specifically wolves that Aren't dogs.

(Disclaimer: this is exaggerated for the point of poetry. My family breeds, shows, trains, and sells dogs and we have respect for them as individuals and a species based off of the knowledge we purposefully learnt to give them the best care possible. This is angsty on purpose.)

Dogs were bred from wolves for obedience and companionship through years of selective breeding and compassion. Offering scraps of meat, scratching where they can't reach when they let you close enough, giving them shelter and names and soft voices.

But a wolf can never be a dog.

Because dogs become dogs through generations of evolution until they rely on humans.

Their sharp edges softened until they rely on protection.

Their hunting instinct numbed until they rely on food.

Their adapted bodies changed for cuteness until they would no longer survive in the wild.

The one thing humans rely on is their pack nature. They need dogs to want to be around them, whether it's for loyalty, or obedience, or companionship. The one most common thread between all dogs and any wolf is their need for a pack.

The evolution of dogs is fine tuned only by the successive breeding and death of each generation.

A wolf can never be a dog. It's instincts are too prevalent. It's nature is too wild. It still knows the taste of blood.

A wolf has to die for it's descendants to be dogs. But it will never know the comfort of a human as friend and family - as pack. It only knows the instinct of survival, the one that tells it to run from or kill the predator and competition.

(Again: wolves are perfectly happy in the wild, they have flourishing hierarchies and pack structures, they integrate well into conservation efforts. It's for the angst)

So the idea of a character that is all knuckles and teeth and claw? Licking my plate clean, sending compliments to the chef, asking for seconds, leaving a six star review.

I just love a feral woman with blood dripping from her teeth who could be compared to a cage fighting dog. And how did you know hyenas were one of my favourite animals you oracle you!

And the writing? Ooh! The way you described the spear sinking the ship then running along as it sunk, then blowing up another ship in an explosion that returns the spear to your hand??? The perfect type of flavor that fits in with the absurdity and extravagance of anime (and particularly one piece and the live action) fighting and I Loved it.

Garp and Bogard giggling and eating popcorn while watching with opera binoculars is the best though.

Also, the enemies stopping in confusion and disgust when they hear the bet with Mihawk?

Holding up a hand like ☝️"Hold please."

I love how she is entirely wild and untamed, even when using some femininity in flirting it's clear she's still brash and not poised in any way beyond poised to strike. I love how you commit to the characters you write!!! And the characters you write have such a wide variety of flavours!!! Delicious.

I very much leant into the absurd cinematography of anime on this one a little bit. Lots of fighting, lots of violence - usually the bane of my existence.

Garp and Bogard being little watchers, their binoculars focussing on the two warlords as opposed to, you know, doing their jobs.

I love committing to a variety of "reader" inserts, so we can all experience everything the way we want to. It's part of fandom magic that has always held me absolutely hostage: you are what you are, you add what you add. You have your own name, but it's not directly ever spoken. Enjoy the ride!

She was fun to write for. I may need to write another like her in the future.

Talking about game Eggman specifically of course,

I can think down the very last detail and aspect of Eggman's character and actions and genuinely can't find a single thing I dislike and that's why I love him so much. I always specifically love all the things people dislike characters for when it comes to bad guys. Their nastiest evilest traits are always entertaining and enjoyable to me

The more fucked up and flawed a character is, the more I love them. I've never been into perfect flawless goodie two shoes characters hehe. The most offensive a character can be to me personally is annoying but Eggman has literally never been annoying to me even once. It's good guy hero type characters that I often find more obnoxious

He has his character flaws like egotism, greed, temper, being a manchild, his evilness and all it entails, the way he can get too confident and act too fast/make oversights (though he has improved and he does absolutely still know how to plan), and such but those aren't things that I dislike about him, in fact I specifically like all those things the most about him actually XD

All these things make him whole and give him so much character and I'm highly against erasing any from him. My blog is pretty much a place where I appreciate all things others dislike which is basically everything, I've known a bunch of fans that dislike how he's evil aka 99.9% of what he's doing the entire time he's on screen in the games lol

To me every single aspect of his appearance is perfect and handsome, every aspect of his character in personality, behavior, and mindset is fascinating to me, and every single action of his is exciting and entertaining. I love absolutely everything about both his villainous and humorous side. There's a reason he's my favorite character ever!

You say he's unfortunately no exception which is true but it's not unfortunate at all to me. XD I'd be curious to know what you consider his flaws because if it's any of the above, I appreciate them being parts of him because every character should have their flaws, and all of Eggman's fit very well, add a lot to him and the story, and fascinate me.

The only things I've ever disliked attached to Eggman/Robotnik's name are non game canon versions of the character because I don't like many versions outside of the games for various reasons from designs to personalities. But because I don't like those versions as a whole overall, it doesn't really matter to me and doesn't count :P

The way game canon Eggman is so horrible and flawed are things I adore so much about him so he could never make me hate him, though that also shows the power of my passion and devotion on my part hehe 💜

Golden Hour or I'll Kiss You Again? You can pick 💓

How about I do both? I think Golden Hour is underrated and I'll Kiss You Again was one of the first stories I liked that got some notes (after Laura @oro-e-diamanti reblogged it, hahaha).

Let's do Golden Hour first:

A lot of people, also here, know that I own a lot (and I mean a looooooot) of analogue cameras and that I love photographing. So it was really self indulgent to be honest to combine it with writing about it and taking Thomas as a character for it

I kind of wanted it to advance, the dynamic, over the whole fic. Like it escalating further and further. In the sense of what goes and what doesn't go pic wise. I wanted Thomas to be more confident in the end than in the beginning, I wanted him to be nervous about it - because what if someone finds those pics of him? Or of them together but it kind of advances to oh, I'll take the risk. So those the little play with Vic

"“I probably- I probably look fucked.” He does." -> Make of that what you want, but if it was catching your eye before, you're probably right, lol

I wanted the first photo to be so hilarously innocent that Thomas can't do anything but laugh

"You become obsessed with his body in a different way than before." -> I just wanted to show that Reader obviously was obsessed and loving his body before already but that it accelerates after starting to take photos of him. There's so much details you look for, that you don't notice that deliberately in your daily life usually

And that's how I tried to write it, there are soooo many details in this fic between the bigger chunks, so many descriptions of photos

I don't know why Thomas ends up with an exhibitionism kink often with me - sorry. I mean, he is on stage and there are some videos where he definitely knows what he's doing. So maybe that's why

"You think he’s going to whimper but he full on growls at you." -> Nothing to say, I have a thing for men who whimper and for men who growl and especially for men that do both <3

I just think washing someones hair is really intimidate and I wanted to write it into a fic for a while and I thought there wasn't any fic more perfect for it

"“I’m pretty sure there’s already footage of my ass on the internet which I can’t delete either,” he says." -> Well, I guess kinda, yes.

"Rome’s evening sun hitting Thomas’ face, still leaving you speechless now every time you look at Thomas in the golden hour light. The moment you took it and thought to yourself that maybe, maybe you’re in love." -> I would absolutely change nothing about this paragraph, it also made it into the story because of the name of the fic. You know when you look at someone and you think, fuck, I'm in love, I think and I have no clue how I ended up here but that person means so much to me and is the most beautiful human being? It's exactly that feeling

"It’s too aesthetically pleasing somehow to call it a dick pic. But it clearly is. His dick." -> Sometimes you just have to experiment with sentences. If I would have written it as a normal sentence instead of breaking it up the impact of reading it would have been a lot smaller

"Backstreets of Rome; the backseat of his car." -> I love that sentence sososososo much. I just love playing around with words, when I can take a word and change it into something else. When words change meaning from one sentence to the other. It takes time but it's one of my favourite things to do

The scene in Ethan's bathroom, I wanted to show that Thomas isn't only submissive in this and that there aren't certain roles and everything is more fluid between them

Honestly, I don't know why but phone sex has some element that definitely isn't for everyone and it's definitely not for those two. And I wanted to show that you can also try something and agree that it was good to try but wanting to do it again. It happens. And that there can be deep feelings of love but there are still reasons to let a person go so they can do what makes them happy more easily and not because you don't love the person. And also that came from personal experience

That scene with Vic, I literally wrote five different scenarios for that one. One without Thomas coming, two with Thomas coming differently, with more sex. But I settled on this one in the end because I kind of found it interesting how a really little thing in the right moment can set him off like that

"And you ask yourself, if you could forget what his hugs feel like. This feeling of falling out of love hunting you down." -> I think people often forget how much work a long distance relationship is, with one being constantly away that's what it is. And it's easy to be like, maybe I'm falling out of it but you don't want to and then you try but sometimes even that doesn't feel enough

I have a feeling that Ethan and Vic would be the people who would clean up after Thomas when he does something stupid because they love him

"“I sometimes worry about life, about time. How much of it I’ll have, have left and that I do everything wrong with it.”" -> Cannot find it right now but there was this one interview recently that completely kicked me in the ass because he said something similiar enough to this (not as extreme but still)

"Film rolls change from pink skies to falling leaves. From grey sky and Christmas markets to cherry blossoms. Even when he’s not there." -> You know there's some things in life that you pick up mostly because of someone but it still stays with you when that person is gone or completely gone from your life

"But then there’s the Polaroid of confetti in Thomas’ hair you take after the last gig of tour. And you fall in love all over; again." -> I really wanted to give this fic a happy ending because I had the feeling it deserved one and it did. Even with Thomas coming and going and that obviously being a problem in that relationship here, I wanted it to work. Because the thing is Thomas is always coming back home, he might be stupid, but he is and at the end of the day both can share what happened in the other's abscence and be excited to see each other and you know fall in love with the same person again, but maybe also with some new parts

Okay, and I’ll kiss you again

This came about from a prompt I got and was something I wrote as a fluff Valentines fic, and I'm really in love with the "we find love notes on accident" scenario from the prompt list I had

I kind of liked the idea that they both find something with the same pattern or something that is really similiar to each other and that they both fall in love with it

The poor cashier ... Hahaha, when I wrote it, I didn't realise what I put her through. But also ... In the first draft the cashier was actually a little bit magical (like leading Reader to that box, getting them to buy it and in the end they wanted to thank her that she got them to but no one has ever heard of her when they go back to the store). I decided against it, and went with, okay just regular plot without magic

Thomas and the girlfriend situation. Here I also had different drafts. In some of them they were still together, in some of them they had a fight, in some of them Thomas already broke up but didn't mention it, in some of them Thomas and Gianna were on off. But in all these scenarios Thomas always broke off because of Reader. That's why he said, he doesn't want to hurt more people, he knows Reader is keen on him and he loves Gianna enough to be fair to her because he knows that his heart is somewhere else

I fucking love describing food, I'm so sorry everyone

"You remember Thomas staying over after drinking too much, sleeping on your couch, one night between Christmas and New Year’s." -> And there's the short ice cream story and Thomas laughing and ice cream on noses and in my head Thomas broke up with Gianna just after that

Thomas really wants to get drunk, that's why he brought so much alcohol. If that ends him up in someone's bed, or at least lets him forget or anything inbetween ... So be it.

"He shouldn’t look at you when he bites into one of the chocolate hearts. And your heart shouldn’t do these stupid cartwheels watching him." -> I said it before but I love words that kind of change meaning from one sentence to another and it's always interesting to see where to put it in and where to take it out

God, I love some gentle handholding and I was so happy that this was part of the prompt

"You liked it but it didn’t stick out to you, except for Thomas taking it and not letting go off it after you read it." -> I just loved the idea of Thomas holding on to that note because it gave him so much hope, so yep, he's holding onto it because he's holding on to hope

I wanted them to have had those little moments together already before the fic, why there was this longer passage about kisses from before and Reader thought Thomas did that as a joke but Thomas didn't and it just dawns on him that he might has been misunderstood the whole time and that he never wanted Reader to feel about him in this way

"but you were so busy with your photo assignment from work" -> In my head Reader always has a backstory in my head. Always. Like here Reader is working as a photographing assistent and Thomas and them actually met at a photoshoot (in another story Reader was a patisserie chef btw - yes, Reader baked in that one, and in another one Reader is an Art major at university - and yes, it's the longer Thomas x Reader x Vic fic)

"“I don’t know? I went to Gianna’s to get something I left at hers but I …”, he stops talking - it doesn’t matter - he’s there with you now. You pull him closer to your body, “and the next morning I woke up crying into Bidet’s fur and Damiano making breakfast he said I don’t deserve." -> Okay, they fucked, okay, that's what happened that night and Thomas was feeling awful about it because he planned on telling Reader that he loves them and instead ended up in his exe's bed because he also couldn't be alone. And Reader gets that when he stammers around but it doesn't matter because he didn't do anything wrong

I needed the little bit of angst at the end, hahaha

It was fun to come up with all the messages they all wrote to Reader

" How the fuck did you fall for him?" -> I honestly believe that this is something Vic would ask someone who has a crush on Thomas, no joke

That note was honestly such a pain to write. Even happier I am now how it turned out. And yes, it was based really loose on the love note Alex Turner wrote for Alexa Chung

And reading it again now, I actually really like the ending I gave to this, coming back to the love notes and making up stories for it and that maybe someday will find Thomas' note and you know, when you read that note, it can also be read as sad but maybe not everything that reads sad actually is

AFoLiS author commentary Part 2

Time for editing A New Morning Rises. Let's see what we have here.

Right off the bat, oh boy, what the heck was I thinking with having four lines sectioned off that took place in a difference tense and from an omniscient perspective? Wow that read badly. FIXED.

So, Stelle sees Firefly for the first time and instantly recognizes her. Like I said in the first commentary, that wouldn't mean much if she's supposed to look the same in reality, which is another reason I need to keep that she doesn't... even though I drop it by Part 3, hair aside. It was really important to me to contrast March seeing her and having no idea who it was with Stelle seeing her and instantly knowing.

Ah, the first instance of Firefly's cold skin. The game doesn't give us a lot to work with in terms of what ELS would be like, but I thought, logically, if she's moving slower and slower on an atomic level, that's going to mean generating less heat. And regaining her warmth turned out to be a perfect shorthand for showing her health. That's why it became the title for the E-rated stories.

I mentioned in the comments at the time, but I intended Stelle's dialogue choices to be the various thoughts running through her head. So, confronted with the 3x "I love you" option, it shows how that one phrase overwhelms every other thought in her head. Even though I didn't stick with this gimmick other than two points in Part 4, I think it worked well for this story.

Oh, and here's the first instance of Firefly reading Stelle's thoughts. Maybe it's author laziness for both your characters to somehow know the same things, but I hope it shows how tuned in Firefly is to Stelle, possibly because of their past together. After all, Stelle can't usually do it in return. However, there is a scene coming up late in Part 6 where Firefly is too distracted by her own problems to get what Stelle's on about, and it leads to hurt feelings all around. So having this to contrast against is good for something, I guess.

Interesting how back here, Stelle wishes she could just be a normal person. By present time, she really doesn't care about normal at all anymore – she'll be whatever she has to be, in order to be Firefly's.

Okay, here's a substantial change, and it's the whole Stellaron Hunters as family deal. As I've talked about in author notes, I had no clue how caring they were of each other prior to 2.3 and seeing the lengths Silver Wolf went to keep Firefly safe. Here's the new version:

In the original, it cut straight from "you turn back to the overlook" to "I'm sorry." Because yeah, I absolutely did mean that they would kill her. That's ridiculous in retrospect, so I came up with a more plausible threat.

Next up, here's Stelle's very first time crying! Of so, so, so many! Sometimes I feel like I'm making her come across as weaker than she is, and I don't mean to be. I just can't help empathize with her, and she's been through so much. Just writing this stuff makes me tear up. So how could she not cry?

" “Maybe we can take turns being strong for each other,” says Firefly" I haven't stop screaming this point ever since.

...I was going to end this by pointing out, needlessly, how the final paragraph of Part 2 is where I got the name A Flash of Light in Space from, but... those words aren't there? Wow, false memory. It's absolutely the intent though.

" The two girlfriends locked eyes and together burst out into a laughter that traveled down the halls of the Astral Express. And though the sound eventually faded out, unheard across the distance of space, their moments of shared happiness brought a spark of warmth into being that could never be extinguished. "

That's it, that's the flash of light in space.

That last paragraph is... kinda a bit much. In my defense, I thought it was the end of the series at the time, so I let myself be a little too flowery. Overall though, this was waaaaay better written than Part 1. I think part of that is that, for whatever reason, I just do better in second person present. I tried to get away from it with Part 3, since it feels... I dunno, kinda less "valid" literarily you know? 'Cause serious stories aren't written like that? But I struggled to keep to it so much, as early readers caught for me – I kept accidentally slipping into writing "you." So we're all second person from Part 4 on out, unless I have some very good reason to change later.

Reblogging this again, this time with an essay (sort of) for TDKR because it has now occurred to me that it's losing. So just hear me out on this.

(Warning now that this is somewhat long and without pictures. Although I may add some later.)

Now as much as I love Weblena and Violet's introduction in Friendship is Magic as much as any other person, The Duck Knight Returns is just too powerful of an episode to compare. (Plus there's plenty of other amazing Weblena episodes that aren't as appreciated and you should definitely vote for as well)

Or you may be finding Darkwing in DT2017 fairly annoying as he gets so much screentime that could've been used for the actual show itself, and that I understand. Especially with the fact that Lets Get Dangerous is 40 minutes long and has much more going on; we don't need all the DWD episodes to win the poll, let alone this one.

However, I actually find TDKR a stronger episode than LGD. Yes, I know. And before you all murder me for that, let me explain myself on why it's so good and underappreciated

It's not just a Darkwing introduction episode (which by itself is already so so amazing), it shows DuckTales 2017's struggles of being a reboot of an old loved TV show.

There's so much symbolism behind this episode, such as LP and Starling representing the old die-hard fans who can't accept new things, and the "Darkwing: First Darkness" movie producer guy (forgot his name sob) representing the people who are just taking advantage of the old shows popularity to make something out of it only what they want it to be. But I guess Dewey and Scrooge play that role as well.

Then there's Drake, the fan of the old show who's making something new out of it, and mentions, "Look, I know this new movie's not perfect, but I really want to make it better. And maybe someday I'll inspire some other kid like me." He's not trying to ruin the show into what he thinks is best, he is a true fan who genuinely wants to make the best of something he loves. And that represents the DT2017 writers.

So go try and tell me the writers weren't using this episode to call out their experiences while working on DuckTales. This episode was definitely their way of expressing their intentions behind the reboot.

Now onto the second point. Not counting the fact that it is literally showing us what the creators intentions behind creating the show, the episode as a DWD introduction by itself is absolutely so genius.

For example, Jim Starling being NEGADUCK from the 1991 Darkwing TV show caught me so off-guard and is SO PERFECT AND FITTING. I did not see that twist coming. (I should've, though. I'm ashamed to say I didn't expect it despite the chainsaw and the other dead giveaway details). This gives us a whole new look at Negaduck, who in the original show, was merely existing to be an evil clone of Darkwing. Now he gets a more complex backstory and character just how Glomgold did!

Additionally, Drake's attitude of "get back up" was a really cool character motif that I think the original show missed the opportunity to give to their Darkwing. It may be just me, but I love this idea of Drake having this reason to be so willing to fight crime and never give up, its the extra character lore we never knew we needed.

AND HOW CAN I FORGET DRAKEPAD? (Not necessarily as a couple; I do ship them but this is not about that right now) Their dynamic here is just so powerful; no offense to the og DWD, but I prefer that DT2017 Drake and LP have something to bond over rather than the idol-worship dynamic they had in the 1991 show.

In conclusion, this episodes writing is so clever and I could spend so many more hours rambling about how good it is. It deserves to pass at least the second round. Unfortunately, this is already getting really long (also I'm on mobile and its a real pain to type :,D).

yugioh sevens - team battle royale arc

It took me a little longer to get through this arc than some of the other ones. I was really excited for it at first, because I love tournament arcs. I love seeing characters that are normally allies pitted against each other in a friendly rivalry. I like seeing upsets and moments where unexpected characters get to shine. And while ultimately this arc did deliver on those things with an incredibly satisfying ending, I struggled through the "battle royale" portion of the arc and kind of wish it was a more traditional tournament setup.

There were a lot of weak episodes this arc involving side characters I don't care about and that aren't funny, but this is the first time in the show that I actually felt exhausted and just didn't want to watch an episode. I did have stuff to complain about in earlier arcs, but ultimately Yugioh Sevens has been a show that is always fun to watch, and I like to save it for days when I'm maybe feeling a bit down and need something lighthearted to cheer me up. But seeing the setup of the episode where the Sorako clone squared off against Nick, of all people, was so offensive that it made me groan. The space cadets episode and the Yuuga vs Hunter duel (which had an unexpectedly cool moment with the reveal of Yuuga's new maximum card but...why did it have to be wasted on this duel?) and the Luke vs Kaizo duel were just kind of a pain to get through for me. Overall, the animation quality continues to decline too, which is disappointing, but the last two episodes don't look too bad.

What I really liked about this arc, though, is all the focus on Luke, who is by now definitely my favorite character in the series. Seeing him come into his own and become a bit of a leader, acknowledged by even Nail and Roa, was really great. Luke is a character who I can always count on to elevate any scene and make it more entertaining, and I can't say he let me down this entire arc. Even at its low points, the phenomenal voice acting and sheer charisma of the character really shone through.

While I really liked Gakuto's and Romin's duels, each showing how far they've come and fairly earning the respect of opponents who have been proven incredibly powerful in the past, I especially loved the hype as fuck final duel which even rivals Nail vs Yuga for me, during which Luke shows what he is truly capable of in an absolute fireworks display, cementing himself as the proper rival we knew he could be. The classic Dragius summon (which I love to see no matter how many times it happens) is now accompanied by the similarly great invocations of Miragius and some other ones whose names I am forgetting (it's really hard to hear katakana, okay).

In fact, the end was so incredibly satisfying that I would be perfectly content if the show ended here (of course, barring some plot points like Otes and Atachi which are left for the next arc). I guess I expected Otes to make his move in the near future, but it seems the focus of the next arc is...aliens? Amazing. Yugioh Sevens really impresses me with its willingness to take chances and go in really interesting directions, and the ending of this arc was a perfect example of that (the protagonist losing like this is not something pretty much any hobbyani or shonen battle series would allow). So, I remain cautiously optimistic for the next arc.

I probably will be taking a short break from this series to go watch other stuff, though. I accidentally watched the last 5 episodes of the arc in one day again. Some day I'll learn to pace myself with this show, or maybe not (I hope not).

I really like AkiToya as a ship.

Why? Because they're ship name includes all of both their names-! I'm joking.

I really like this ship for two reasons,

It's held up by so much in-canon events and interactions.

They're the perfect level of "I don't want to be perfect" and "I need to be perfect."

The first one is easy enough to go over. They have so, so, so many interactions together, and when they don't, a character usually points it out that it is weird they're not together. They also have this perfect understanding of each other, in canon, with Touya's wiki talking a bit about how he finds it hard to express emotion around anyone other then Akito, since he's the only one who really understands. It's sweet.

It's from that to swapping lunch when there's food they don't like, to being in almost every single one of each others cards, to them protecting each other to

Pancake dates!

It's almost shocking how intertwined they are to each others character.

That leads me into my second point; they're codependent to each other- in character building and in their own story. It's impossible to take Touya away from Akito's story. It's even more impossible to take Akito from Touya.

From the way Touya frames it; Akito is almost a saviour figure! Giving him a reason to actually love music and to strive for a goal. Even in areas where it's almost nothing to do with Akito and Touya's past, Touya always manages to say something, usually about how Akito helped him. Or better yet another character mentions it. (Off memory, I believe Tsukasa mentions something about Touya smiling more and equates it to Akito? I believe?) He cares so much about Akito and his ambitions he'd go as far as breaking up the group because he didn't feel adequate enough.

Akito on the other hand- I mean come on, it's written like he fell in love the first time he heard Touya sing. It's the one thing he always goes back to, that must be a pretty moving moment, more then just "wow you can help me surpass my goal." It really seems like he trusts all of Vivid BAD with his dreams but his absolutely trusts Touya the most. Maybe it's just nitpicking, but he seems to give much softer smiles when it's just him and Touya, or more smiles in general, less tough attitude, not fully, though, that's just how he is. He knows almost everything about Touya's life, too.

Touya has always had to be perfect even if he despised it. Akito forced himself to be to fulfil his dream. They bounce off each others insecurities, strengths. They're foils that work together to form a narrative of being stronger together; of having a Partner to always be there for you.

They mean so much to each other it's honestly a bit shocking to watch everything sometimes and be like "oh yeah, you two aren't actually dating in canon." But it's really funny how everything makes it sound like they are except from the game itself. You cannot convince me any music duos call each other partner that much, that hang around that much. You'd think they'd just say best friend. Alas, it's always, always partner. I mean have you seen how they act in the Wedding Event? It's cute! Or in general area conversations. They feel like some semi-put together couple who do music together, some combination of being brains and brawn, (though they do also show the difference of street and book smarts nicely, I think.)

So, I'll say it right now - this post is largely inspired by the second story highlight of this Instagram user (sorry, I don't know their name, only that their Instagram handle is dee_girl_metalfamilyfan), it's in Russian though, so keep that in mind

Alright, so I'll break this theory into two parts: the first one will be all about Ches, and the second will be about his potential child (spoiler: you might've seen her!)

Without any further ado, let's get to the Ches part:

1. The creators said that they're gonna explore Ches' character in the second season. Obviously, it doesn't mean anything on it's own, but just wait.

Dima: Let's talk about the second season a little. Of course, the seconds season will show development of the old characters, as well as new ones. That's in short. As you see, Ches looks a bit different here.

Alina: Yeah, we'll show a bit more about Ches at the ages of 18 to 20. His past. We'll reveal a bit more about his complex character, as much as it's possible.

(The source of the translation) Also I think they also said at one point that adult Ches will get some character development too? But that's probably a given, considering that we wouldn't see his youth if it wouldn't have affected him in the present, flashbacks without any relevance to the overall story don't sound so good

2. Not sure about this one (we don't know how much in character it was) but I can't not mention it.

Alina: Actually there was this one fanfic that I really liked. I don’t remember what it was called, but it was about Ches having a daughter, which is a cool topic. It was relatively in character and truly interesting. It’s great when people focus not just on sexual relationships of the characters, but also try to look at their development. That was a really interesting one. That’s it.

3. This one's a pretty big one, in my opinion. So, this is what they said on ArtWave '19:

Dima: Ches also has flaws.

Alina: [to Dima] Don’t spoil stuff.

Dima: His flaw is that he's very... irresponsible, let’s say.

So, maybe, just maybe, Ches does have a child but he, you know... left them? As the Instagram highlight from the beginning say: "he might be irresponsible enough to leave his child, and he's probably irresponsible enough not to use any contraception" (rephrased, not the exact quote)

4. Alright, so, the only mention of this one I can think of right now is the aforementioned Instagram highlight. The Metalfamilyfan says:

I contacted Korg/Корж, (admin of @ metal_yama [and I believe one of the organizers of the Metal Family Meetup in Moscow]) and she asked Alina on one of the meetups: "if Ches were to be a father, what kind of father would he be?"

And she said: "The kind of that would say "kid, look at that birdie over there!" an then he would run away"

5. Ches has literally been through the same thing, and we know how important the theme of the cycle of abuse is in Metal Family (or, in this case, the cycle of neglect? Abandonment? Idk)

6. Here we can see Ches with a blonde girl. Nothing too special, probably just a one time hook up. He doesn't seem to be interested in her, and she seems to be annoyed with him.

But wait...

What is this?

Like, it doesn't even matter if there's actually a punk/rock/whatever band named MOM or not, I just think it's pretty weird to put it in this particular drawing of Ches and this random woman who is implied to have slept with him. It's not integral to Ches' character as, for example, Korol i Shut is. It's just... there. For some reason.

Alright, now, finally let's get to the second part of the theory: who is, exactly, his child?

The short answer is, according to this theory, her:

First, let me list every single instance of her appearing in canon (and by canon I mean everything made by the creators. Even with this definition of canon it's not much, I promise): The screenshot you can see above on the left (it's a screenshot from the second season and it appeared here), an instagram story posted by Alina (above, right), and two drawing with a lot of characters where you can spot the girl which I'm gonna call her PinkHair or PH for short, I'll mention them later I feel like I should mention this, comparing the sources of the images and the dates when they were posted, it's safe to assume that the screenshot in the classroom has the latest and final version of her design. The red hair most likely doesn't mean anything

1. Alright. So. we've seen Dee and PinkHair in a classroom together, so they're most likely related in some way, or at least they know each other. Their exact relationship doesn't matter here, because all that matters here is that they're related story-wise

Let's look at the first image. This is the banner of the main Metal Family channel. Ches is near Heavy (they get along quite well and I'm sure Heavy aspires to be like Ches in many ways), Dee (we can see his classmates/friends near him, they're all about his age), and we can see people related to Glam on the left side of the image (including Ches!), and Vicky's - on the right side (notice how the hell sign is also there)

Now, I'm not absolutely sure about this one, but it's still kind of weird - look at the image on the right (it's from ArtWave 2021 btw) - wouldn't it make more sense to put PinkHair near Dee? Also, Curiously enough, not only is she not close to Dee on this image, but she's also standing next to Ches.

Though this whole thing could be explained by art theory (too many small things in one corner of your drawing isn't great composition wise lol sorry PH) but I still can't quite skip this point

2. Remember the "MOM" lady? Fun fact, she has the exact same pearl earring that PinkHair has on the screenshot.

3. I'll put all similarities with her supposed parents in this point: Mother: * She's also pretty uh.. glam? for the lack of a better word? Or feminine in a traditional sense, yeah I think that's a better way to put it. Like colors they prefer to wear for example, and jewelry. Characters like that aren't common in Metal Family * She's gotta be a blonde. I can't imagine her being anything but blonde. If she manages to maintain that hair color as a brunette I'm just straight up assuming her character arc is gonna be killing God because these kind of people are capable of anything. I fear them with every fiber of my being. * I can't say for sure because of the shading, but it seems like they both have gray eyes, and she also has darker skin compared to most MF characters. Though, it's likely that Mom just applied a lot of fake tan Ches: * We know that Ches for sure has darker skin * AND grey eyes * There's also some possible personality similarities but I'm not sure if you can compare a child to a parent they've never really known in this way

I thought Mccain was a cute supporting character, I don't think he could carry a serious storyline on his back. But as a backgrounder, I thought a short dog dressed Matrix Style who always tried to act logical & stoic was a cute backgrounder. Kinda like in the Simpsons, how there are characters like the Sea-Captain, Frink, Comic Book Guy, ETC that didn't get episode focus, but gave the background some character. Shame Mccain fans apparently bugged the author, though.

I'm on the other side as far as McCain goes, I don't think he's at all suited for BCB. McCain zealots were a symptom of a much larger problem particularly with his character and how his popularity was threatening to transcend the main characters, and that had something to do with him being simply the smartest and collected character in a story of teenagers learning to grow up.

It's hard to ignore McCain's presence. And that sucks!!!

I cannot remember but SOME PART OF ME tells me there had once been discussion of BCB having a Fonzie moment. And I can't help but think that conversation had been about McCain given his overwhelming popularity. McCain's logical and stoic personality appeals to people considering who he is surrounded with, and judging by how people tend to ignore things going on in the pages he exists in and concentrated more on him evident in the page commentary indicates there's quite a number of frustrated readers who can't bring themselves to try to emphasise with any of the less-perfect characters, namely the main ones. So they latch onto him instead.

McCain's quite literally a clean slate as far as baggage; he's immune to the other kid's drama and has none of his own. He has no competition, no rivalry. When he gets shut down that makes readers sympathise with him. Great for a comic which is lighthearted and joke-centric because hahaha he's clearly out of place with these losers. But McCain is really out of place when that became less of a focus and when we really wanted to focus more on the losers and their loser problems.

I savaged McCain years ago in my Sue megapost because I thought McCain was a big detractor to Sue's character development. That was a problem with McCain, but not the problem with McCain. I seriously find him fundamentally flawed because of his design, both aesthetically and function. He's a character that rides too closely to a pop-culture reference enough to be defined by it in both attitude and appearance. He is the dog form of Morpheus. Even if you weren't to necessarily agree with that assessment, it's seemingly hard to ignore him when he isn't the focal point of a page either. His overall design is loud; he's black and white. He's both the shortest and the most clothed character. Even though he's written to be quiet and an introvert in his own right, the contrapasta is there and you can't ignore it. In a highschool setting where clothing is optional in the first place, McCain's attire outshines many of the other characters. This is great when it's explored in the chapter with the spotlight searching squad. But he's since transcended it outside of the comic. Show anyone a picture of the volume 1 cast of BCB and I feel like their eyes will immediately go to him based on both of these traits alone. This is so evident the case because even when he is literally in the background, the page talk will ALWAYS focus on him.

As a pop-culture wiseman reference who pops in from time to time to savage Paulo, he's great. Getting turned into a character, he's an unintentional distraction .

Those Simpsons characters that you listed are all good characters who are references to something; Sea-captain is a homage to Popeye, comic book guy is literally every comic book store owner you know, Frink is absolutely every nerd you know. But those characters compliment the main characters, they aren't given comparable time in the spotlight (unless that's changed, I stopped watching after season 6), and their attire isn't designed to take focus away from the main characters either by competing against them. McCain has become such a meme these days he steals the show by simply existing. This has been the case and will continue to be the case, ever more prevalent from the reactions on the more vocal readers on the talk pages because people want to focus more on McCain than on the characters they should be paying more attention to.

And I feel that hurts the experience, particularly for new readers. I can't help but feel the situation is made even worse because the people who still hold a candle for McCain hype him up on webtoons where the new readers are coming from, and this is having the effect of giving off the wrong idea.

Assuming this particular post isn't just sarcasm, this reader is getting set up for disappointment because we all know McCain will be unceremoniously evicted after Feline Filibuster. But what about entirely new readers who have absolutely no knowledge of this at all? With messages like this, they're getting set up with expectations to see him again. I can't help but think that's disasterous given this is everything that caused him to be removed in the first place.

But alas, this is my hill to die on. I really want to like McCain but he just does not fit with the main story in any capacity. He was out of place back then and that was fitting considering the setting, he's REALLY out of place when he was evolved into a minor character. I'd have to wonder if Suit and Tae had anticipated the same comments with the webtoon and with the Omnibus release and whether that bothers them like last time.

I can't help but wonder if the next time the early volumes are revisited in maybe an anthology when the comic ends if McCain gets the Kizuna treatment. The only real way to deal with McCain overshadowing the others and being a distraction in the story is to remove him entirely and replace him with an entirely new character(s). I don't see a way to salvage him.

Though maybe if they do still like him, maybe there's life for him in BCI or in mini-strips in the newsletters? I suppose that would be interesting.

Here we are! What a journey, and while perhaps this season wasn't at MoM level it was REALLY good, with great new villains/allies, great little throwbacks and an awesome story! 🤩

This type of plot twist reminds me of our early seasons. Zane sacrificing himself, Garmadon giving up his life, those moments that made me so curious and excited about the following. I have no idea what will be the outcome for this, but I can't wait to find out

With that out of the way, AMAZING SEASON 😍😍😍 I think this finale beats MoM's, just because it was really unexpected and opens up a SEA of possibilities... yeah too soon 😭

I'm still shaken, my world, they did something HUGE and I do hope it will be a good shake to the entire Ninjago plotline. Nya is "gone", we still don't know about the person behind all that vengestone, we haven't heard from Garmy in forever, there are so many good ideas out there now that they've set the ground for more 🤩🤩

Voice acting was *chef's kiss*, not only for the villain which I already stressed enough about, I think Kelly reached a new level of emotional intimacy with Nya and I'm so happy she showed her skills 💜💜

Animation is TOP, there's little to no point into saying anything else since they showed it very clearly in the latest season ☺

This was the emotional, witty and engaging writing I was looking for! Good jokes, meaningful dialogues, emotional scenes, everything was really good and I'm gonna rewatch some scenes especially for that 😍

It turned out having Maya and Ray back was kind of a distraction to fool us all 😅😅 Well played actually, and it was very cool seeing them again in any case 🙋‍♀️

And now? Jay lost his love, I have no idea if the show will work on him getting over her or hold onto her memory (thinking of Jay probably the latter, although I do think that handling the first would be an interesting idea). KAI LOST HIS SISTER 😢😢😢 I have no doubt he's gonna beat himself up for it, like he did when Zane was gone too. Everyone lost their friend, she had become such a vital part of the team and now she is not here anymore it will be hard...

They are back with the four plus one green savior formation, I sincerely don't know how I feel about that 😅 I'm always happy when we get the OGs, but this is about going on without Nya... maybe Skylor will be called? Or Pixal will be more active? That could be interesting to see, who knows 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Gosh, how are they going to handle the next season? It will have to give A LOT of answers to the millions questions we all have right now. Man I can't wait, it could be anything!!! This is a Ninjago revolution!

But if I have to mention a little complain, and I'm a fangirl so I absolutely have to, Kai didn't show much of a reaction to Nya's "departure". Okay, she didn't straight up die like in Skybound (I'm gonna fear all BOUND seasons from now on 😱), but he's her brother and he loves deeply his family. Either we're gonna see him go all out next season, or the writers really did only focus on Jaya. A tiny bit salty... but you got me a fantastic finale so I'll move on 👍

Outstanding, I'm blown away. Whenever I think I'm used to this show they do stuff like this. I'm so glad and sad you guys 😅 But mostly happy that despite everything I still get very strong emotions while I watch this long time favorite show of mine 💜💜💜

What is your favorite Shin Drama CD and why? (can be several if you can't choose)

Shin's Para-Selene CD, hands down.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy pretty much every drama CD featuring Shin (maybe with the exception of the Tsukinami Lost Eden CD), but Shin's Para-Selene is genuinely my favourite drama CD of all time and I'm fairly confident it always will be.

As a fan of both the darker bits of DL and the fluffier side of things (well as far as Shin is concerned anyway), that CD has the absolute perfect combination of do-S moments but also with Shin showing that he cares.

Also I think that CD probably does the best job of all of them of showcasing his personality. This is something I'm going to talk about more in a later post, but Shin will often act more angry than he is. Again, I will explain this properly later in another ask (as I don't want to derail this one too much) but Shin's Para-Selene CD has the best example of this I can think of.

When you initially lose your memories of him and push him off of you, Shin acts aggressive and asks if you're trying to make him angry. After you keep being genuinely frightened of him, he backs off for a moment and wonders what the hell is going on because that isn't how you normally react to him (you're used to his bullshit by this point). If Shin were genuinely seriously angry in this situation, he wouldn't have the awareness to register this. And you can see this when he does later realise you've lost your memories and completely flips out. It's a really good moment for character study and this all happens in just the second track of the CD (admittedly there's another incidence of this in the first track but if I start analysing every part of that CD we'll be here all day).

Honestly if anyone feels they struggle with writing Shin as a character, I'd really recommend you go and listen to his Para-Selene CD (and maybe track 3 of the Tsukinami DF CD to capture how he is pre-relationship).

I feel like I might have answered that one too quickly so I'll give you a couple of bonus answers.

Favourite do-S Shin CD: Dark Fate vol. 1 (track 3 specifically)

This CD only has one track where you interact with Shin but it's truly *chef's kiss*. There's a particular moment where Shin lowers his voice and it just does things to me. Yeah if you're in the mood for darker content featuring Shin, check this one out. (Honourable mention: the Operation X mini-drama)

Favourite group bonus CD featuring Shin: The Vampire's Everyday Board Game ~Kou and Yuma versus Carla and Shin~

A lot of the group drama CDs featuring Shin are really funny but this one has to take the cake for me. Admittedly this is partly due to Kou and Yuma but yeah, it's incredibly funny and as there aren't too many characters, each one of them gets a couple of good moments in this CD.

Favourite solo bonus CD featuring Shin: Shin's "The Vampires got a Part-Time Job!" CD - (Versus IV Stellaworth bonus)

This one is really hard because Shin's solo CDs are all brilliant but this one has got to be my favourite because it is both insanely funny and insanely cute. For anyone who hasn't seen my rambles on it, Shin gets a job working at a dog café but doesn't want any of the vampires to know he works there, so when you walk in he tries to lie and say his name is Jon. He's stolen the name from one of the dogs who then barks when he says it X'D Shin does eventually admit to being himself and sounds so defeated when he does. Anyway after that you get to spend time at the dog café with Shin which is potentially my idea of heaven, it's just the best.

By the time I am writing this part.....it is unfortunately not high noon; it's 9pm right now!!! Interesting to see one guy being a w h o l e unit by himself. I was always confused why there's just one guy but eh whatever. No idea where the idea of spreading hope, positivity, motivation and cowboys intersect but if it works 🤷‍♀️ I can't say I like his outfit bc cowboys aren't my thing but he looks decent enough. The colors especially fit him very well but that's to be expected, considering there's only 1 guy to tailor the outfit to. The red piece of fabric on his waist is a very nice pop off in terms of colors & sillouette. Btw is that brown strap on his trousers the gun holder? Inconvenient placement but it would be very cool if the gun is an actual part of his outfit lol. Now comes the sad part, I don't vibe to his songs I've heard yet in the game. There is smth that makes me unrationally irritated and angry???? He's just cheering us up and encouraging us but I just don't like his songs for some reason? Sorry man 😣

Howdy boiiiiiiiiiiiii I feel so bad 🥲 He seems like a genuinely good guy. I mean, I did hear smth about him lowkey gaslighting Anzu into thinking they're childhood friends to get closer to Trickstars somehow but I don't think it could have been so bad. I hope. He really wants to spread ~good vibes~ and all and is adamant in being true to himself and his fans. Going after his own beat so to say. A strong boy. Another rich boy apparently???? Which I didn't see coming at all, though he doesn't really care much about that anyways. A very healthy boy. Like, carrying a 17-18 y/o girl is still taking a lot of power and energy even if she's only 50ish kg. And he went quite a while from what I get in his Ep.1. The absolute confidence this guy has to just become a solo performer amidst all these groups. Ik inside the world there are obv other soloists but he radiates confidence one way or another. Initially, I thought it was just the fandom making him out to be the mom friend bc of his unit name and personality but he actually says it himself 😶 I get the feeling others tend to underestimate or are intimidated by him due to his self-assured and almost over-friendly attitude, which he makes use of very well. He's the perfect example of charismatic. I am pretty sure he's also quite popular with mothers, grannies and children. Kinda like Chiaki in a lot of aspects. He looks pretty good. He's falling perfectly into my preference of brown haired green-eyed 2D guys so that checks out. His voice is also pretty nice. It's smooth, rich but still somehow airy like.......liverwurst (I had to google this word and, like, I didn't expect it to be a literal translation from the german one, very very tasty btw). There's still smth nnnggghh about it, though only minimal.

There is not a single song I dislike, literally every song is a banger in one way or another. They all sound good together and just !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'd keyboardsmash but I think you get it already. If I were forced to chosse favs, I'd say Crazy Roulette and PARANOIA STREET but all songs are really good. It was when I watched their MVs when I noticed how long their torsos and tiny their waists are. I like their uniforms very much as well. There are 2 variants with slight differences and everyone wears individual accessories, which is a bit like Ra*bits and obv makes me weak. It looks like a stylish everyday outfit, if not a bit fancy but it fits the theme of freedom and fun. Black and white are always safe options to go with but it's not boring at all with the different prints, the little bit of other colors and the bling overall. The bee brooches are soooo cute and just make the outfit 10x better. The buttons are shaped like honeycombs!! Honestly, it's probably one of the best regular unit outfits in the game, for me ofc. No idea about the group dynamic but I know that everyone is kinda wild and weird and not a single normal person is in this group, which might not seem much in this game but I mean, I can't even see them functioning with each other but at the same time it's kinda obv they just do whatever and it somehow works??? As I've said, officially, I've only read their Ep.1. And with the memes (and therefore random spoilers), that's kinda the vibe I get. That and I saw a twitter post on tumblr listing their canon crimes, which I shouldn't trust blindly ofc but there's that. I guess it's in the name. Kinda cute how they're bees though. You'd think they'd go for cooler animals like idk leopards or dogs or smth and not little bees but it's a fun novelty.

Rinne Amagi

A runaway ex-monarch, now where have I heard that before???? Well, Citron (A3!) eventually got back, gave up the throne and peace somehow happened with everyone but I don't think that's the case for this guy here. I don't know much more about his past except, that he's Hiiro's brother and they lived in a remote conervative village. I can definitely see, that he used to be smn important with how he acts. He seems very carefree, lax and rough around the edges but he is in no way stupid and actually pretty sharp, I think. I couldn't fully concentrate when I was reading his Ep.1 bc 1. it was midnight and 2. he talks like a radio host or game commenter 😂 Talks a LOT and very lively. I already knew he had a good as in attractive but yeah also good singing voice but holy did his normal talking voice catch me off guard. It was very...👀 To put it in my unique descriptions....idk man. No words, it's a bit more difficult bc he goes up and down a lot, it's a very nice kind of deeper voice, though. He'd tell the best stories for children. I guess it's comparable to a nice quiet day at the beach with a bit of wind. Not too sunny or too hot. Unsurprisingly, he's obsessed with thrills and new things too, I'd say. Probably stems from the fact, that he used to live a set path in his zraditonal village. Likes gambling and considers even marriage gambling, which isn't wrong. Nothing in life is set in stone, after all. I did hear he can be kind of an asshole and self-absorbed, which is also not surprising. His vibe kinda gave it off. Very likely impulsive and does not think things through 80% of the time, which makes him not stupid but stupid. Fun person to watch but not to hang around with. I feel like he'd drag you in his problems regularly. I don't think he can cook or do basic household chores so how did he survive alone then??? He didn't get scouted immediately, right? He can clean the toilet at max. Btw. he has a pretty good sense of fashion for smn who's pretty new to urban life. He also has certain charm to him and looks kinda good. Oh and he seems like he's in his 20s, which makes me question why he calls us Nee-san. "Miss" would be more appropriate, no?

7/10 - interesting fun guy but I'm preparing myself for the coming headaches

HiMERU

So mean of him to let i be the only small letter :( Or is it some symbolism? Ok, so straight up, I heard he's impersonating for his younger hospitalized brother, which is why he always refers to himself as "HiMERU" and not in first person. If I remember correctly ofc. Now, that already goes to show he cares greatly for his brother but also that he has determination of steel bc who would go through so much trouble wth. And the thing with acting as close as the original Himeru is just.....😧 Why would he do that? Does he actually care for him, or was he somehow forced to do it? He seems pretty chill, obv very secretive and relatively distant, to no one's surprise. He's also polite but can roast you without you even noticing. Maybe I'm just being judgemental but he might also be more cold. His hair looks like bedhair but the good "I woke up like this" ⭐ variant Nonetheless, he should probably get those strands down and away from his face. Black goes very well with him for some reason. His voice sounds so seductive when he sings but is pretty calm and rather quiet otherwise. It's not weak, though, and rather like a sturdy bench but with ventilation since it's also a bit airy.

6/10 - there's a lot to uncover but I'm in no hurry to find out

Kohaku Oukawa

I'm having difficulties telling his and Niki's singing voices from each other apart. It's so stupid considering how often I listened to the songs but their differences are not that noticable and both fit. Kohaku's normal talking voice is very easily recognizable, on the other hand. In Crazy:B at least. It's similiar to Mika and Shinobu but he has a less stretchy speech pattern (M) and his voice is deeper (S). He sings pretty decent. Not 100% sure what's up with him but wasn't he some assassin or smth? He seems too friendly and normal to be one. I almost wanted to ask what one would even do here but that's a stupid question 🤦‍♀️ He seems to have family problems. I heard somewhere that he likes sweets as well so....Welcome to the club💖!!! I sure hope he's open for all kinds of sweets around the world. I thought he'd be more grumpy and serious but he's a normal amount of that. I like his hair and eye color. It's the same combination as Shu's but I like it on him more. Probably bc I like his hair more and he just looks friendlier.

Niki Shiina

I see a lot of :P from him. Is the bit about his condition about being less able to absorb nutrients true? That would suck man. Being hungry 20/7 sounds like a nightmare. What also sounds like a nightmare is cannibalism, which I sure hope is just a misnderstanding or misinformation bc wtf. Anyways, aside from that, he can cook! Plus point here already. Trust goes through the stomach after all. Talks similiarly to Rinne but more playfully. His voice reminds me of fresh citrus fruits. Seems diligent (for the sake of food) and is pretty cheerful (unless there's no food). Mans got his priorities straight of retiring as an idol if it strains his physical and therefore mental well-being. Must be a bit of a pushover if he got talked into becoming an idol of all possibilities. I mean, it's obv they can't eat a lot and have to work hard to stay in shape and sing well. I thought he'd be more reserved and uh normal bc malewife material and memes portrayed him as the one who cleans up the chaos. Maybe, my memory is pretty hazy on that regard. I like his appearance. Pretty hair, blep, kinda cute.

7/10 - kinda like and curious about him

Remember how I said the typical idol outfit is inspired by imperialistic european military uniforms? I guess it's taken literally here but more shifted to the 20th century. I have no idea what the theme is supposed to be. I did see that they were called executioners when I picked the cards from the wikia but is that it? Back to the clothes, they look good! You can't go wrong with suits and gloves. It's with darker grim colors (pretty sure they're from Madara's MaM outfit) which fits to executioners. The sherrif star is a bit funny but I guess it works as a medal here. What puzzles me is the puzzle piece on their belts. Are they also seekers or smth? The harness??? or how they're called on Madara sure give the extra spice along with the ¾ sleeves, that leave a bit of room for peeking skin. And the magically hanging coat gives him the a bossy feel. Kohaku on the other hand resumes the role of being the cuter one out of the two and has cool cape-shirt to his shorts and overknee boots. The asymmetry of the top makes it more interesting to look at and shifts the focus on the basically only patch of light color on his outfit. He looks like Madara's assistant or second-in-command, not that there are others.

I don't think the group exists yet bc 1. it's not shown anywhere in-game and 2. Kohaku is a new character after all and just got introduced to be part of Crazy:B (I think, I haven't read the story yet). It will probably be formed later on for some reason. It doesn't seem like he left the other unit like Nazuna left Valkyrie. The music can be pretty good. It's more serious sounding compared to what they usually sing and it sometimes reminds me of these cool cinematic chase scenes in oldie movies.

Sry to any MaMPs here, I guess the positive songs are too pure and burn my dark soul away or smth along that. Maybe Madara is mermaid prince and his songs are effective against me, an evil fish (Mermaid Melody reference that nobody gets bc barely anyone knows it :,)). Crazy:B got pulled like crazy high through their songs but they're also pretty balanced on their own.

It is now 5 over half 6 am and I already completed the event before starting Crazy:B's part. I am literally so close to simply drifting off to dreamland. I tried to look out for any mistakes but I don't think I found them all. I'm gonna do the rest this week no matter what.

Just for curiosities sake, what are the izuku-centric fan fiction tropes that you cannot stand?

i'm going to answer this not just to this specific anon, but to the general audience of my blog.

to preface, none of these tropes are inherently bad. i'm not arguing that they shouldn't be written, or that people who write them are bad, or that they are bad writing. all i'm saying is that my taste in izuku-centric stories is very particular, and i keep running up against new things that rub me the wrong way.

izuku has a quirk: there are so many fics where the premise is just "izuku has X quirk instead of being quirkless," and i almost invariably find these annoying. usually it's just the author showing off this cool idea for a quirk they came up with, and they use izuku instead of creating an OC because cringe culture has made people ashamed to just make their own characters for stuff like this. for me, it just feels like people aren't writing an izuku-centric story, they're writing their own story and using Izuku's name.

izuku is quirkless and that means he's lesser: i can't tell you how many quirkless izuku fics i have started with high hopes only to turn away in disappointment when it became clear that the author wasn't thinking through how izuku could accomplish things without a quirk. so many stories let izuku stay quirkless, but then insist that obviously because he's quirkless he can't be expected to perform as well as he does in canon. there's always things he can't do, limitations he has to accept, and he's not allowed to aim too high. which brings us to our next trope.

izuku has to be an underground hero: a lot of quirkless izuku fics will just flat out say that izuku can't hope to be a spotlight hero and he has to go underground. most fics paint it as not even the obvious choice, but the only choice. the option to be a spotlight hero, a public figure than can inspire others, is never on the table. there's this strong undercurrent of underground heroes being more realistic, but "realistic" always feels like another way of saying "lower your expectations."

izuku can't be a hero so he's a vigilante: i can come up with exactly one fun way to play with this and i've never seen it done. ever. usually izuku isn't even fighting for a specific reason, he just couldn't be a hero so he settled for vigilante. this is always ignoring the fact that the market is way oversaturated with heroes to the point where they're tripping over each other to stop petty crimes. the problem in the bnha world isn't that there's just so much crime they need all hands on deck. the problem is that heroes are public figures that are using their fame to get rich rather than push society forward. without the public figure aspect, being a vigilante is just spitting in the wind.

dadzawa is the only competent teacher at UA: i get that it's fun to make aizawa a better teacher. he's kind of a mixed bag in canon so throwing out the bad parts and focusing on the good parts to make a heartwarming story is good and valid. however, i don't like aizawa as much as everyone else, so it really annoys me when he's portrayed as a perfect teacher, and especially when all the other teachers are nerfed so he can save the day.

inko is an absolute monster: i get that inko's not a great parent. she makes a lot of mistakes. but making her an absolute monster is unnecessary. i've seen fics where she kicks izuku out, leaves him on his own for weeks on end, beats him, blames him for his father leaving, glorifies herself for taking care of a defective child, and locks him in a steel box for hours or days. this is always so that dadzawa (or the author's surrogate parents of choice) can sweep in and take izuku away from this awful life, and the whole thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

izuku uses "deku" as a hero/vigilante/screen name: honestly i just really don't like it. i get that the show is trying to do a thing about reclaiming insults, but like . . . it's not doing it very well.

izuku has to pretend to be a villain and scares everyone: the newest addition to my list, which is why i made the original post. i knew fics like this existed but i had never really read any, and i hadn't really thought much about it until a fic with an entirely different premise that i was reading took an abrupt turn into this trope. that really shocked me and made me very upset, and for a while i struggled to articulate why. then i realized it comes down to the idea that izuku is only skilled when he's acting like a villain. this plot relies on the idea that no one realized izuku was badass when he was acting like a hero, but once he switches roles he suddenly becomes terrifyingly competent. this implies, whether the implication is intended or not, that izuku's skills are better suited to villainy than heroism. the idea that izuku is only hypercompetent when he's causing chaos and destruction is annoying to me because it says that izuku's lifetime of study on how to be a hero has somehow prepared him to be a villain rather than a hero. it's downplaying his hero skills and attributing to izuku a set of villain skills that mostly seem to be completely fabricated. again, this is not a bad trope, but i can't get over the implications of it even though i'm sure they aren't intentional.

to clarify, this is a list of pet peeves. this is not a prescription or a guide. this is not a list of sins you must not commit. you can write whatever you want and i will defend your right to do so. however, this list is also not up for debate. you're not going to change my mind about what i find annoying. please don't send me recs for fics that do these things but you still think are good, because i won't read them.
