eps 3 and 4...

OK, what I said about the lack of atmosphere... Ep 3 has that in spades. Wow. Also, those horror movie nightmare creatures...! They were right out of an Itou Junji comic. Loved it.

Because of that, I want to give this episode like all the gold stars... But I can't!! Because how can you just shoehorn Madeleine Pryor in like that? With literally no build up??? We had perfect Jean for two episodes, then the beginning of ep 3 she's all "NO! I AM JEAN GREY!" Like she recently gave birth, but the instant the thought's floated that she might be a clone, the vibe is clearly "she's evil."

It all happened so fast. That's what I mean about the pacing. I know there aren't a lot of episodes to work with in this show, but damn it moves fast. Idk if anyone but someone who is already an X-fan could appreciate it, because what I appreciate is the experience of going "ah yes, I remember this from the comics, it was fun," rather than the episode being fun itself. Still, like I said, this episode WAS fun regardless because it had some really cool moments.

I was honestly scared that she WOULD just be straight up evil, because Madeleine never gets a fair shake. So I'm happy that Jean was decent enough to reach out and that Madeleine was strong enough to choose to go her own way at the end.

It's the kind of story that just doesn't work in a single episode. Madeleine deserved more - Jean deserved more. And Scott, who had such a good performance in the first two episodes, is just so useless here. He's just along for the ride. Doesn't seem overly concerned with Jean or Madeleine, and barely concerned with Nathan. When they discover Nathan's virus, and Madeleine suggests sending him with Bishop to look for a cure, Scott just yells "I can't be a part of this" and storms off. My dude. That still makes you a part of it. It just also makes you too cowardly to say goodbye to your own kid, wth.

And his abandonment issues are valid but like yelling "don't any of you know what it's like to be abandoned" to a room full of mutants who very much do know...?

I want to say this is all good character development for Scott... in the sense that he's not the perfect leader, he has his flaws as well as his strengths, and this is one example. That'll have to be explored in the future though. If the episode didn't move so fast and spent a little time in Scott's head, maybe I'd sympathize with him more. Right now it seems like his wife (Madeleine) had a horrible identity crisis and was immediately abandoned by her husband, and also had the balls to do what's best for her son, while said husband just walked away. It could be good for Scott story-wise... it could even be good for Madeleine. But Madeleine is never treated well.

Also...

... this is the ugliest baby ever lmao. what is it about animation and not being able to draw babies!!!! look at the chin on him. i know he grows up to be cable but STILL. he looks thirty-five!!!!

Ep 4 has a lot of atmosphere too, both sections. So that's great, I guess the first two were just kinda rocky but they've figured it out now.

The Mojo bit, despite having a filler feel (like all Mojo eps do), was a lot of fun, it was great to have Jubilee do something - even though she still sounds very much like "trademark 13 year old X-girl" as a newly minted 18 year old xP "like duh totally" what year is it bahaha

Loved the colors and the kiss.

But my favorite was definitely the second part with Ororo and Forge. Despite all its baggage, that's one of my favorite Ororo ships. I was really enjoying them while also waiting for the other shoe to drop. I'm disappointed but not surprised... still kinda hoping things work out though. The art for this part was so lovely, with Forge's cozy cabin and the sunlit desert views. And Ororo herself just seems really well-written to me. Between this and ep 3, the X-women are getting some good stories going on. I like Ororo's better than Jean's, but that's normal for me.

Forge please gimme some of that chili.

-ah yes. this is where dazai gets shot and this is where i started fuming in the anime season. I AM SO ANGRY AT THIS EVENT! which is a good thing for the narrative, but I AM SO ANGRY! WE DO NOT INJURE DAZAI! HE'S THE *ONE* MAN THAT WE CAN'T FIX, WE DO NOT INJURE DAZAI, WE DO NOT-

-something i've noticed btw, and i think it might be due to the nature of the anime vs the manga timeline and arguably can't be helped, is that the suicidal-maniac part of dazai is much more sparse in the manga. in the anime, it feels like he mentions it way more often.

-you know what kind of antagonist dazai needs -and ranpo, and mori for that matter- after we're done with fyodor? someone genuinely layperson and chaotic. someone who doesn't think 500 steps ahead, someone who acts completely on a whim and has no attachments or lofty goals, someone so random that they simply cannot read them because the possibilities are endless. i'm talking csm denji times one thousand.

-and we still don't know fyodor's actual goal after eliminating the skill users and getting the book. we know fukuchi's plan, but that's not all, surely. we're so not done with this bitch yet.

-i miss hearing their voices. the anime made me more excited to read the manga, the manga's making me more excited to rewatch the anime, and both are making me more excited to get to the spin-offs and such, this is great.

-fukuzawa, i need you to remember that your black sheep son willingly got himself shot to glean information for your agency's sake. alright? I NEED YOU TO REMEMBER THAT, FUKUZAWA! *shakes fist*

-what does "a world free of sin" even mean, fyodor, what do you want! free of skill users is obvious, but sin? are we talking brainwashing, kira cult, what are we talking about?

-atsushi destroyed his clothes before we've even gotten into the story of v12, he had a head start beginning from the cover smh

-ranpo is devastated with fukuzawa in the hospital, my heart. no offense, but fucking fyodor traumatized me in this arc, what with dazai being shot and the whole fukuzawa-mori thing and how it destroyed everyone. you can't blame me that it took a long long while for me to go from "i hate this guy" to "i hate this guy but in a good way."

-SAY IT ALOUD, KUNIKIDA-SAN, REMIND EVERYONE HOW DAZAI IS PART OF THE AGENCY, DAMN!

-this is so clearly a "we really can't have dazai around for this or else the conflict will be over in two minutes" injury.

-okay but WHO are "the rats in the house of the dead," HAVE WE MET THEM

-seriously, no one jumps to "i'll kill" as fast as tanizaki, just lend him to the port mafia and let him have his semi-dark arc. he's so cool when he's being lethal. give him his questionable era, his moment to shine.

-wth is that grin when you're fighting kyouka, aku-kun, put that back where it came from

-IT IS SUCH A BIG MOMENT when aku-kun tells kyouka that he's glad for her that she doesn't yearn death anymore :')

-is it just me or is mori prettier in the manga than in the anime? fukuzawa too, for that matter.

-oh, dazai's clenching his fist when he says "if it weren't for my nullifying skill, i could've had yosano-sensei heal me and join in, but..." oh my heart, he truly wants to be with them. there’s no other reason to express this thought in this kind of visual than to show genuine emotion

-THE FUCK DID YOU DO WITH THAT NURSE, DAZAI?! not fucked her surely, you're injured, but THE FUCK DID YOU DO WITH THE NURSE THAT MADE YOU A '-SAMA'?! tbf, knowing dazai, it's just as likely if not more than likely that he played therapist for her or something. 'cause this is the third time a "woman misunderstanding" is happening in the manga. first you think he's flirting with higuchi, but no actually, he's bugging her. then you think he had sex with kouyou, but no actually, he just talked to her. so it's quite possible that it's a case of "you think he fucked the nurse, but actually he just lent her a shoulder to cry on." and off-manga timeline, at least in the anime, the same thing happened with sasaki, it was all "dazai did WHAT with sasaki?" and the answer was "in fact, he did absolutely nothing." i find it funny that THIS, of all things, is one of bsd's great unanswered questions though, and that there is canonical events that could very well support the "actually no, it wasn't sexual" to what looks like a sexual gag. you could argue that the manga makes a point of pointing out that even though sexual advances for personal gain would be expected from someone like dazai, it is in fact not something that dazai does (and no, chuuya’s “womanizer” comment from when he knew dazai four years ago doesn’t count). although. if we were ever given an answer, i believe it would be far sillier than anything we could imagine. like, they sing karaoke, or he shares his medicine with her and she gets high, he shows her how to beat that really hard mobile game, something utterly, completely stupid.

-fukuzawa/mori vs dazai/chuuya vs atsushi/akutagawa battle, who wins, go! i say dazai/chuuya.

Here we are! What a journey, and while perhaps this season wasn't at MoM level it was REALLY good, with great new villains/allies, great little throwbacks and an awesome story! 🤩

This type of plot twist reminds me of our early seasons. Zane sacrificing himself, Garmadon giving up his life, those moments that made me so curious and excited about the following. I have no idea what will be the outcome for this, but I can't wait to find out

With that out of the way, AMAZING SEASON 😍😍😍 I think this finale beats MoM's, just because it was really unexpected and opens up a SEA of possibilities... yeah too soon ��

I'm still shaken, my world, they did something HUGE and I do hope it will be a good shake to the entire Ninjago plotline. Nya is "gone", we still don't know about the person behind all that vengestone, we haven't heard from Garmy in forever, there are so many good ideas out there now that they've set the ground for more 🤩🤩

Voice acting was *chef's kiss*, not only for the villain which I already stressed enough about, I think Kelly reached a new level of emotional intimacy with Nya and I'm so happy she showed her skills 💜💜

Animation is TOP, there's little to no point into saying anything else since they showed it very clearly in the latest season ☺

This was the emotional, witty and engaging writing I was looking for! Good jokes, meaningful dialogues, emotional scenes, everything was really good and I'm gonna rewatch some scenes especially for that 😍

It turned out having Maya and Ray back was kind of a distraction to fool us all 😅😅 Well played actually, and it was very cool seeing them again in any case 🙋‍♀️

And now? Jay lost his love, I have no idea if the show will work on him getting over her or hold onto her memory (thinking of Jay probably the latter, although I do think that handling the first would be an interesting idea). KAI LOST HIS SISTER 😢😢😢 I have no doubt he's gonna beat himself up for it, like he did when Zane was gone too. Everyone lost their friend, she had become such a vital part of the team and now she is not here anymore it will be hard...

They are back with the four plus one green savior formation, I sincerely don't know how I feel about that 😅 I'm always happy when we get the OGs, but this is about going on without Nya... maybe Skylor will be called? Or Pixal will be more active? That could be interesting to see, who knows 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Gosh, how are they going to handle the next season? It will have to give A LOT of answers to the millions questions we all have right now. Man I can't wait, it could be anything!!! This is a Ninjago revolution!

But if I have to mention a little complain, and I'm a fangirl so I absolutely have to, Kai didn't show much of a reaction to Nya's "departure". Okay, she didn't straight up die like in Skybound (I'm gonna fear all BOUND seasons from now on 😱), but he's her brother and he loves deeply his family. Either we're gonna see him go all out next season, or the writers really did only focus on Jaya. A tiny bit salty... but you got me a fantastic finale so I'll move on 👍

Outstanding, I'm blown away. Whenever I think I'm used to this show they do stuff like this. I'm so glad and sad you guys 😅 But mostly happy that despite everything I still get very strong emotions while I watch this long time favorite show of mine 💜💜💜

What else can I say at this point? ONTO NEXT SEASON!!! 🤩🤩🤩

Chapter 3:

It was near the evening when Chen returned with a bag of clothes for her to take her to his place, where she was going to be living from then on as a maid.

Chen had blindfolded her before sitting her in the car, something about not keeping any trace. The entire car ride home was quiet, she felt stuffy sitting beside this terrifying mafia person but she concentrated on her breathing, not wanting her anxiety to get the best of her.

When they arrived, Chen opened the door for her and held her by the arm as he guided her, more like tugged her, up the porch stairs and into the house. Once inside, her blindfold was opened and she blinked a couple of times to adjust to the light before looking at awe at the 2 story mansion she was standing at the entrance of.

'I have to clean this place every day? This house is huge, I'm just one person!' She thought as she trailed her eyes over the place.

The entrance led to a drawing room, with stairs on either side of it, leading up to a hallway that lead to other rooms (she assumed). To the right of the living room was the kitchen and to the left was 2 more rooms.

As Minhee was looking around, two men who looked like security guards with guns on their sides came up to Chen and she overheard him telling them that if she were to leave the premises of this house without him, she was to be captured or killed. Her heart lurched at this and she heard Chen say, "You understand what will happen to you if you leave the premises right?" She nodded. 'That's right. I can't forget where I am, no matter how normal he seems, " she thought to herself.

After the guards left, Chen closed the door and said, "Come, I'll show you your room and your work."

She followed him to the left, where the two rooms were. He pointed to one of the rooms and said "This leads to a panic room. Don't even try entering it; it's locked with a code."

Then he pointed to the room next to it, "This is your room, it has a bathroom attached to it, " she opened the door and entered to see an empty room aside from a closet and a carpet.

"Oh yeah, there's no bed yet. Nobody stays here. I'm gonna get you a bed tomorrow, or whatever, just stay on the floor or something." he said, like it was the least of his concerns. Which it probably was.

"There are two rooms on the left upstairs, one is my bedroom and the other is my study, those are off-limits, don't go in there and clean it only when I'm present. Am I clear?" he said as he looked her in the eyes.

"Ye-yeah," she replied, a bit nervous.

He nodded and then turned around, going out of the room.

"Follow me," he said and started leading Minhee towards the stairways, past it, he lead her under the stairways, there, she noticed, was a door, hidden underneath the darkness.

He punched in a code hidden on the ceiling and the door opened, and she followed him inside. A strong stench polluted the air and she internally gagged at the smell. It smelled like..blood, she realized with horror, so much blood, and as soon as Chen turned on lights, she physically recoiled at the sight.

Blood was everywhere, complicated metal instruments, which she could only assume to be torture devices, were strewn about the floor, some stained with blood and metal chains hung from the wall. A cold shiver ran down her spine when she heard Chen chuckle beside her as he said, "Ah look at you, so scared," he took a step towards her and she stepped back, struggling to breathe through the fear she felt at the eerie look in his eyes.

Her back hit the back of the wall and she started panicking slowly, her breath coming out in short gasps as he got closer and closer, till he was an inch away from him, and whispered in a stone cold voice, "Welcome to the torture chamber. If you dare betray me, this is where you will end up, got it?"

She nodded, her heart running a mile a minute. Thankfully, he stepped away from her before she had a full-on panic attack and said, in a lighter voice, "For now, you're only here to clean. So get to it."

And with that, he left the room. She stood there for a couple of minutes, just catching her breath before she decided she should get to cleaning this maniacal place. At this point, she was more afraid of betraying Chen or accidentally doing something wrong, than anything.

She really wanted to live, she realized when she went to the kitchen to look for cleaning supplies. She wanted to live without getting beaten up all the time, and she wanted to eat well for once in her life, and she wanted to do a good job at her work so that one day, she could go into the outside world and explore it. Surely, he would let her do that one day, right? She hoped for it anyway.

She scoured the entire kitchen but could not find the exact cleaning products she needed so she ventured upstairs to find Chen.

She didn't know if he would be in his bedroom or his study so she just stood out in the hall, looking between the two closed doors, not knowing which one is either. Hesitantly, she knocked on one and exhaled in relief when she saw it was the study after hearing a "Come in" from him.

"What do you want?" asked Chen, not looking up from whatever he was reading in a file on his desk. She swallowed thickly, she really didn't want to disturb him, he looked like someone hard at work.

"There are not enough materials for me to clean the-" she broke off, not knowing what to call the room, "the chamber.." she trailed off. He looked up at her, his expression unreadable.

"Oh. The previous cleaner used to use his own material," he said, getting up from his chair.

"Oh..what happened to him?" she asked timidly, wondering why he needs her then.

"Oh, he just died in this turf war a couple of weeks ago. Can't really trust anyone outside the business so I didn't get around to hiring a new cleaner yet." Chen explained, so casually, she couldn't help but feel a bit shocked.

"Anyway, list what you need here, and I'll get them on my way home," he said, handing her a pen and paper as he started putting on his jacket.

She nodded as she hurriedly scribbled out the names of the products.

He took it from her and then started putting it away in his pocket as she turned to leave when he said, "I'll be home late, so just go to sleep or something, clean tomorrow." And then he paused as she nodded before adding, "I'll get you a blanket."

She gave him a grateful smile and a thank you before leaving to her room. He later got her a blanket and a pillow before leaving the house, locking the door after him, which reminded her, yet again, that she was a captive in here.

Sighing, she decided she would mull over her thoughts later and lied on the hard floor, wincing a bit because of her wounds that were still barely healed. 'At least the carpet can keep me warm,' she thought before closing her eyes, and instantly falling asleep.

She didn't know how much later it was when she heard the door to her room close, the sound of which seemed to have awakened her. She sat up with a jolt, immediately alert as fear raced through her mind. For a moment, she thought she was still in her foster home, and her foster father was coming to beat her up again. Then she remembered where she was and breathed a sigh of relief before feeling alarmed again. 'Who was at my door then..' she thought as she looked at the clock on the wall. It had only been about 15 minutes that she fell asleep, Chen said he would be late, so it couldn't be him, right?

Slowly getting up, she looked out the window and saw the place where his car was supposed to be, to be empty. Now she was definitely sure it was not him, and she crept up slowly towards the door, putting her ear against it in an attempt to listen to whoever was outside.

Her heart started thundering in its rib-cage when she heard a man's voice talking to someone, she assumed, on the phone as she could only hear his voice.

"Yeah, I am just getting familiar with the place," he said in a low voice, but not low enough for her not to hear.

"This is a large house dude," she heard him speak once more before moving to somewhere further in the house, away from her earshot.

Not knowing what to do, Minhee slowly crept back into her makeshift bed on the floor and tried to stay calm. She decided she will stay awake till Chen got home and inform him about this intruder. She just hoped he would be back sooner. And she really wished she had something in the room for protection.

However, soon she heard the front door close, and no sound of Chen's car arriving, so she just laid in bed, waiting but somehow a bit relieved since the intruder had seemed to leave the house.

It was about 2 hours later when the sound of a car engine woke her up from her half-asleep state; the adrenaline had kept her awake for the first hour and a half before she started dozing off. She looked out the window to see Chen locking the car door before heading towards the entrance of the house, and she leapt out of bed to meet him.

As soon as he locked the door, he found her in front him, her face nervous and he asked, "I thought I told you to sleep?"

She nodded frantically before going closer to him, as if it was a secret she was telling him, "When you were gone, I think someone entered the house. I heard from my room someone talking on the phone saying the house was huge and-"

"Are you sure this wasn't from outside the place?" he cut her off, a sceptical expression on his face. She shook her head, "I woke up from the sound of the door to my room closing, and I heard him walk around the house saying he was getting familiar with it. I also heard him when he left," she finished.

Chen frowned, 'How could that be? I locked the door from inside,' he thought.

"There are guards around the house, if you really think there was someone, I'm going to tighten the security here. So if it was a ploy of yours, your chance of escaping just got lower, I'm going to be keeping a very close eye on you. Keep it in mind."

Minhee looked at him with wide eyes at this as he got up the stairs and disappeared.

'How could he think it was me? Why would I even..' she thought, her head jumbled up at the words of his distrust towards her. It took her a long time to fall asleep that night.
