Some extra thoughts below! These are just my personal interpretations of what I watched. I'll try to make sense of what I'm saying LOL 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Again, trigger warning for suicide attempt+ ideation!

Something I noticed while skimming through Farewell, My Turnabout is the similarities between Miles and Adrian Andrews. They directly connected Franziska and Adrian at the end, but they kinda just "hinted" at Miles being similar to Adrian. The main thing that stood out to me is when Miles starts explaining how Adrian is putting up a façade by acting strong. The background fades to black (TWICE), which is something that mostly happens when it's something important, putting focus onto Miles while he talks about how Adrian "lost her will to live" after losing Inpax. Inpax was Adrian's "pillar of strength" and when Inpax comitted suicide, Adrian completely fell apart. She then started to act just like Inpax to cope with losing herself and her mentor. That sounds like the relationship between Miles (and Franziska) and Manfred.

Miles's and Franziska's whole life with Manfred was them depending on him to validate/approve of them. When Manfred left their lives, they started to fall apart trying to gain approval of a man who isn't there anymore. Franziska's confidence was chipped away throughout every case because she kept losing against Phoenix. Miles fell apart a lot quicker (cuz Franziska wasn't created until after--).

Throughout Rise from the Ashes, multiple characters point out how Miles was not doing well and it progressively gets worse. This honestly confused me because Phoenix did notice that Miles wasn't doing okay. He even told Miles that he needs to choose between killing the prosecutor within him or let it help him grow. This interaction is at the very end of the case. Idk if "killing the prosecutor within" was ever brought up before that, but that was interesting cuz I kept seeing people say that Miles wrote that in his note out of nowhere.

With everything that Miles went through in just 2 MONTHS- it makes sense to me if he was not okay. His whole life was uprooted again after 15 years, he was betrayed by almost everyone he trusted, his adoptive dad killed his biological dad and tried to blame it on him, he was brought out on a boat in the middle of the night and shot at, Gant+ Lana used his knife to stab a person's body and made him unknowingly transport it in his own car, Gant saying that he's just like him, etc. Like DAMN bro, what the heck 😭

Also, the thing that made me want to make this comic was when Phoenix told Miles that "everyone would be better off if he stayed dead". Imo, I think it's understandable why Phoenix is angry at Miles. He felt betrayed and couldn't face the fact that Miles isn't who he was when he was 9. There was a post talking about it in more detail, but I mostly agree with what they had to say about it. Phoenix put an unfair standard onto Miles and got hurt when Miles couldn't meet that expectation. He wanted to "save" Miles by solving the DL-6 case and then thought that Miles would go back to how he was when they were kids. When he realized that it doesn't work like that, at least not right away, he felt betrayed. I love that they wrote Phoenix, the protagonist, with these traits tbh. I think it's very interesting! I just wished that they added a scene where Phoenix apologized for saying that Miles should stay dead tho cuz that's never okay to say to anyone, let alone someone you care about and apparently "know better than anyone else" 👁👁

Another thing I noticed is how different the characters treat Adrian vs Miles with the topic of "death". For some reason they're very sympathetic and delicate with Adrian, but then tell Miles to die. Phoenix tells Miles that everyone would be better off if he stayed dead, but then calls Miles cold for telling Adrian that if she decides to "choose death", then it is of no concern to him. Which goes right into my next point.

Miles seemed like he really didn't want to bring up Adrian's suicide attempt and her mental illness. It seemed like they tried everything to get her to talk, but because Franziska told her not to testify, Adrian kept trying to stay quiet. Even the judge was trying to get her to testify by saying at this point, it's looking like she's guilty. In any other situation, what Miles said to her would be uncalled for, but this was literally life or death for Adrian. Also, with context, Miles said that regardless of what she decided to do after the trial, she needed to talk now. She was asking for someone to help her, but only she can accept that help. He could've definitely put it in a way better way tho like damn. I think he's projecting how he talks to himself onto Adrian tbh 👀 It's honestly just a really shitty situation for Adrian to be in cuz no matter the reason, she was forced to face her worst fear. If anyone is to blame for all this bs, it's definitely Matt Engarde and Juan Corrida imo-- 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️ Her illness was something Adrian would have to face sooner or later, it just sucks that it had to be like this 😢 Another thing I noticed is when Adrian said that if the truth of her illness were to come out she couldn't finish her sentence. Then Miles finished it for her by asking if she would "choose death". That's a more obvious clue that maybe Miles's note was a suicide note, since it was used in the context of committing suicide.

This guy is always on my mind-- All of them are always on my mind tbh 😭 I just wanted to draw Miles struggling (just the usual on this account) SKMSDKLML I also wanted to show that healing isn't linear and there are a LOT of times where it's just hard. I also wanted to show that Phoenix (and literally everyone else OvO) does want to be there for him despite everything, Miles just has to be brave and accept his support. I just want them to be happy DAMN 😭😭

I feel like I have so much more to talk about, but I can't think of anything else rn. I hope all of this makes sense- I'd love to read your thoughts on this or if you have any questions! Just keep it respectful, please 🥺

I can’t be the only one who thinks that the Gavinners are the Ace Attorney’s world equivalent to One Direction. Just think about it, I can imagine all the Wattpad reader x Klavier Gavin fics that have been written. We all know Trucy would send them to Apollo every time she see’s one. I can’t stop thinking about this and I need to share this idea with the world and I am so drawing this later.

A Squeak or a Startled Exclamation?

Original Request: "Hey so for Day 20, can we get Phoenix (and maybe a few others?) teasing Edgeworth into a flustered mess since you can never have enough Lee Edgeworth? Thanks."

Author’s note: Oops! Sorry this is two days late, but here it is as promised! Here’s Day 20 of Tickletober: “Tease,” “Weakness,” and “Posing” from August’s Tickletober List, Crow’s Tickletober List, and Nim’s Tickletober List. I hope you enjoy!

Series: Ace Attorney

Characters: Phoenix Wright, Miles Edgeworth, Maya Fey, Detective Gumshoe 

Word count: 1,288

Summary: Edgeworth refuses to admit that he made any noise similar to a squeak after Phoenix accidentally startled him, but Phoenix starts to tease him to admit it once he remembers Edgeworth’s little “weakness” that caused him in part to squeak.

“I did not squeak. You’re hearing things,” Edgeworth’s arms are crossed and his head is turned away from Phoenix.

“Uh, no. That was definitely a squeak, Edgeworth,” Phoenix counters. “It sounded just like a mouse.”

“Maybe a mouse getting stepped on,” Maya snickers.

Edgeworth whips around to face them, “Well, what do you expect me to sound like when you surprise me like that?!”

“It’s okay, Mr. Edgeworth!” Gumshoe chimes in. “If it makes you feel any better, it didn’t sound like a mouse, it sounded more like a creaky faucet handle!”

Edgeworth face palms. “So reassuring, Detective...”

This whole conversation started because Phoenix and Edgeworth were arguing over how to do a proper Steel Samurai pose. Phoenix had done the iconic pose with his form bent forward and an arm poised like he was holding weaponry at his side, but Edgeworth corrected him. The prosecutor got up and showed the “proper” way to do the pose (basically doing the same thing that Phoenix did). Phoenix shook his head and went over to Edgeworth to begin posing him like a plastic doll. In the process, however, Phoenix grabbed Edgeworth’s sides in order to turn him in the right direction, but Edgeworth suddenly leaped from the lawyer’s grasp with—what everyone but Edgeworth is defining as—a squeak. 

“Okay, so if it wasn’t a squeak, what do you call it?” the lawyer asks.

“A startled exclamation that was higher pitched than average,” Edgeworth makes his alleged squeak sound more refined.

“Hmm, that is a good way to describe it,” Maya says.

Phoenix rolls his eyes. “Edgeworth, all I did was touch your sides–” Phoenix suddenly stops himself. A realization hits him. “Ooh, I get it now,” a smirk grows on Phoenix’s face. “I forgot that Edgeworth has that little weakness.”  

“Wright,” Edgeworth says with a stern tone that translates to: don’t push it.

But Phoenix Wright being Phoenix Wright is absolutely going to push it.

Phoenix holds his hands behind his back and begins circling the prosecutor, like a supervillain about to monologue to all angles of a camera.

“I can’t believe it slipped my mind that the stern and sharp-witted Edgeworth can be thrown off by something so… childish,” Phoenix grins over Edgeworth’s shoulder before passing by him, but not without first giving Edgeworth’s side a quick squeeze. The prosecutor jolts and tightens his elbows down upon reflex, though still keeping his arms crossed.

“Wright,” Edgeworth glares at him, giving him a second warning. His eyes are locked on Phoenix as the lawyer walks back in front of him.

“Don’t you think it’s funny, Edgeworth? You can act all big and tough in the courtroom, but a quick tweak to your ribs, a squeeze to your side, or maybe a scribble into your stomach will send you crumbling to your knees,” Phoenix makes sure to enunciate and draw out the most flustering words of his sentence to effectively tease him, all while he says them with a smirk and wiggling fingers.

Edgeworth reflexively leans back a little, staring at Phoenix’s hand like a cautious cat. When Phoenix steps closer, Edgeworth takes a defensive step back.

“Wr-Wright,” Edgeworth stumbles over his words as he says the lawyer’s name for a third time. “D-Don’t–” 

But Phoenix leaps at Edgeworth and tackles him to the couch behind them. Edgeworth crashes onto the cushions and immediately wrestles away Phoenix’s hands that are trying to get a strike on him. He squirms back even further, his head eventually touching the arm of the couch, right before Phoenix slips a hand out of Edgeworth’s grip and plunges it towards his side. Edgeworth jolts with a yelp, and as much as he tries to restrain his laughter, snickers start leaking their way through his defenses and eventually turn into giggles. 

“Oooh, now I understand the big ‘weakness’ Mr. Wright was talking about,” Gumshoe says. “It’s how Mr. Edgeworth is really ticklish!”

“Thahahank you fohohohor stating the obvious, Dehehetective!” Edgeworth responds with some sass, but he yelps after his sentence when Phoenix moves a hand towards his belly, causing the prosecutor to curl forward a bit.

Gumshoe chuckles, finding amusement in the timing and in the rest of the scene. “Heh he, no problem, pal.”

Maya places her hands on her hips. “Nick! I’m ashamed of you!”

“Huh?” Phoenix briefly turns to her. “For what, Maya?”

She waltzes over towards the couch. “For not telling me you were going to tickle Mr. Edgeworth!” she smiles. “Let me help!” She quickly jumps in and adds her hands to the mix, which sends another ticklish jolt through Edgeworth when she gets one of his sides. “I want to hear his squeaky giggles!”

“I alreheheady told yohohou, I did nohohot squeak!” Edgeworth shouts through his laughter.

“Really? Are you sure, Edgeworth? Because I can replicate the sound right now for evidence,” Phoenix smiles. “It sounded like this,” he suddenly gives a squeeze to Edgeworth’s side, although this one with much more tickly intent than when he was posing him earlier. Edgeworth does indeed let out a squeak-like sound through his giggles.

“No no, Nick,” Maya says. “It sounded more like this,” she gives a scribble to his belly and a high-pitched giggle emerges.

“Hmm, that is pretty close,” Phoenix pretends to ponder. “But it had more of a shriek to it. Like this,” Phoenix tweaks Edgeworth’s ribs, causing another squeak from the man before his giggles rise even louder from Phoenix keeping his wiggling fingers at his ribs. 

Edgeworth tilts his head back and kicks his legs behind them. “Stohohohop that!” he shouts before he turns his head towards the cushions and puts a hand to his face to hide his flustered expression from their back and forth teasing.

“Detective Gumshoe, we need a second opinion,” Phoenix looks over to their friend. “What do you think sounds the most similar?”

Gumshoe puts a hand to his chin. “Hmm, try his ribs again?”

Phoenix gladly gives another tweak to the bottom of Edgeworth’s ribs, earning a mouse-like (or faucet handle-like) squeak from the prosecutor and his hands to shoot down in defense before the flood of his giggles continue.

“Yeah, that one,” Gumshoe smiles.

“Fihihine! Fihihihine! I squeaked!” Edgeworth finally breaks. “Are yohohohou happy nohohow?”

“Yes, very,” Phoenix smiles and pulls his hands away. Maya stops right after him. Edgeworth leans back on the couch, still with his arms to his sides as she catches his breath.

“Nice going, Nick! You got him to admit it!” Maya cheers.

“Eh, what can I say,” Phoenix shrugs, “I’m pretty skilled at getting people to admit things.”

“I’m proud of you for admitting it, Mr. Edgeworth!” Gumshoe supports him. “There’s nothing to be embarrassed about!”

“There’s everything to be embarrassed about,” Edgeworth grumbles and covers his face with both of his hands.

Phoenix taps the side of his hand to Edgeworth’s shoulder. “Don’t worry about that. Edgeworth. This isn’t a courtroom with a judge, and even then, the judge we know wouldn't judge you for this. This is a safe space.”

Edgeworth simply groans through his hands.

 “And if it makes you feel any better,” Phoenix continues, “a smile suits you better anyway.”

Edgeworth tilts his hands to peek through them, seeing Phoenix with a warm, compassionate smile on his face.

Edgeworth sighs and moves his hands from his head. It’s hard to stay mad at the lawyer when he can tell he’s speaking truthfully.  

“Don’t think this is going to make me forget about our Steel Samurai debate, Wright,” Edgeworth mentions, in his same serious tone as always, though with a soft smile on his lips.

Phoenix chuckles, pleased that the prosecutor is back to his usual self. “Heh. Wouldn’t dream of it, Edgeworth.”

I’m watching the ace attorney live action movie so you’re gonna have to hear my unhinged thoughts. Liveblog under the cut

God they made the whole spirit channeling sequence look horrifying. I heard that the movie was directed by a horror director and I can definitely see it. Also I love the detail that Mia and Maya were there it just makes it that much sadder. And the implication that Gregory intentionally lied to protect Miles ooof.

Love the parallels between Miles’s and Phoenix’s trials with miles being calm and collected and Phoenix being a hot mess. Also the Dee Vasquez cameo and the turnabout samurai reference. Also the trash confetti lol

I love that Von Karma randomly has a horse skull. Also the foreshadowing of him rubbing his shoulder.

Overall I enjoyed it it was a fun time. Definitely super over the top but it’s ace attorney so it comes with the name. There was some things I didn’t like like the changing of the circumstances of dl6 and the lack of development with phoenix and Maya’s friendship but overall it was enjoyable

I love talking about my ocs so much :)

I’m writing this after writing everything under the cut, I love talking about my ocs and ideas and I will take any opportunity to talk about them. I have so many I didn’t even mention below-

Now I’ve been developing a story for less than a year now called The Storyteller’s Game where the whole premise is: Sage gets trapped in a different reality to play in a being called The Storyteller’s game. They have to find others to escape while Storytellers throws obstacles in the way.

A lot of my ocs currently are from that project so I’ll talk about my favs from that!!

Sage is the protagonist who I adore! They are based on some of my favorite protagonists in shows/games such as Phoenix Wright, Sara Chidouin, and Hajime Hinata. They have plant and owl motifs. (Everyone in the TSG universe have an animal inspiration)

Storyteller is probably my absolute favorite!! She usually resembles a human with ermine/weasel features and is the main antagonist with Corvis, an anthropomorphic crow. She is chaotic and likes to have fun due to her excitable nature. (Think Hades from KIU).

Moth is also a favorite of mine. He’s a human kid with a really sad backstory. Without going into detail, his parents weren’t the best and now he lives alone with issues. I’ve had him for years and I’ve always found him so interesting because of how he is now when looking at his past. Like, he is the youngest in the human cast but he’s vulgar and violent due to his environment. A nicer thing I can add here is that he has a scarf based on the Deathhead’s Hawk Moth! It’s a very cool bug I can assure you!!

Kitt is another fav of mine who is a Sherlock Holmes fanboy. He was actually very much inspired from Sherlock in the Great Ace Attorney. He has gone through some stuff but he has people who care about him: his father and his brother/friend Italo, a wannabe lawyer). There’s a drawing of him on the other blog but I’ll describe it here. He has a pink ribbon around the collar on his collared shirt which was a gift from one of his dad’s friends fun fact!

I’ve show him here before I got the new blog but Aries has always been a favorite!! He looks human with some goat features. He used to be a one-off oc but I’ve been getting ideas for him! Their whole thing is that they have a short-term memory and they forgot everything about their human life (I should add they’re 11yrs old). I wanna make it so they believe that forgetting painful memories is better than living with them as they died so young and have mixed emotions about being the only one in the antagonist group to not remember anything about it)

I do also have ocs who aren’t a part of this universe!

Loki and Dice are some old ocs I wanna revamp. They are humans/humanoids with animal features. Loki is a goat and Dice is a cat. They were friends who had a falling out. Why you may ask… I have no clue right now-

Sparkle and Arcane are two animal ocs I had many years ago that I remembered existed and wanted to bring back. Sparkle is a fox/cat/dog creature from outer space and Arcane is a creature from earth. Sparkle can’t go back home but Arcane finds her and shows her around his world. Sparkle is also inspired by Sylveon

I also have another universe where three guys go on adventure to stop an evil warlock/wizard from trying to take over the world. Max is a human sword fighter, Eve is a witch and uses magic, and Dyle is a half-dragon maybe prince. Max is the grounded one, Eve is the silly one, and Dyle is the egotistical one. Eve also has a pet named Noi-Noi and Dyle has a small dragon friend named Quill!

i think it’s ridiculous to expect people to make stuff for certain fandoms really consistently or to ask why they stopped making stuff for something because that’s just like, not a realistic approach to how liking things works, but since i haven’t posted any ace attorney since winter when i was playing apollo justice and i still love ace attorney, i do just kind of want to give my reasoning. there is of course the simple fact that there were other things i wanted to draw, of course, and draw them i did. but the reason there was a huge lull in ace attorney art?

i was trying to play dual destinies.

no joke. i tried to play all the games in chronological narrative order (trilogy -> aai/aai2 -> aa4 -> dd -> soj) and like. i adore the trilogy so so much, and aai was like... it had a lot of likeable elements but also a lot of problems and it dragged so hard. and then i got to aa4 and it was such a breath of fresh air returning to the good shu-takumi-directed proper ace attorney and finally meeting apollo and klavier and trucy and everyone else and i loved it.

and then i tried to play dual destinies.

guys, it’s so bad. people on here truly undersell how bad it is just because they like some of the characters (but in my opinion, i couldn’t even like, get attached to athena. i’m sorry. she’s somehow both severely overwritten and underwritten at the same time. you’d have to rework her so much to make her compelling and even then she and her story still wouldn’t fit into a sequel to aa4) but it is literally not at all worth it. i ended up dropping it a few months ago halfway through turnabout academy because i couldn’t take it anymore. and like, soj is apparently worse. the moment i made the decision to abandon it i felt better and started wanting to engage with aa again. like. god, dd is so bad.

anyway i’m now like halfway through professor layton v. phoenix wright: ace attorney and i recommend it SO SO MUCH. it’s such a blast it’s got a really strong story and excellent phoenix & maya characterisation and as always kazuya nuri’s art direction rocks and brings a really lovely cohesive and warm palette to the game (and like. the 3d models are SO much better than the ones in the yamazaki games it’s unreal. phoenix and maya look like themselves and are actually expressive and not disproportionate and not whitewashed either) and the puzzles are super fun (as are the layton characters but. i’m selling this to aa fans rn). it also introduces game mechanics that work really well but also serve as like protypes/the groundwork for mechanics for tgaac. it’s definitely longer than your standard aa game but in the good way, not in the “takeshi yamazaki can’t pace his narratives for shit and nobody in the dev team calls him out on it” way like is the case with aai2 and dd and that god forsaken final case of aai at the embassy.

Introduction to 🦋

So, I’m the last of the admins for the Twisted Book Club. University life has a chokehold on me recently, but here I am. I’m Cressa and I’m the oldest of the trio—I won’t specify my age. You can call me C or Cress for short! My pronouns are she/her and they/them, but I don’t really mind whatever pronouns you use to refer to me.

I’ve been playing TWST since July, which makes me the admin with the shortest time possible in the fandom. Funny enough, I started playing the game after my birthday. I missed a shot at getting a birthday greeting right off the bat (*insert the pepe crying emote*). I like all the characters in TWST—Sebek included because I just know that boy annoyed a lot of people in the fandom—because of how well-written and in-depth they are. Although, my favorites are Floyd and Malleus. This doesn’t help me at all when my gacha luck is rotten and I’m strictly free-to-play.

I’m okay with writing any genre there is: fluffy, angst, comedy, and a mix of everything else. I usually try to make something original with cliché tropes and other prompts, too. Although, I draw the line at NSFW because I can’t write it and I’m uncomfortable writing it. Like I mentioned before, I’m a university student in a pre-medical program. This means that I’m usually busy, but I try to post something on Saturdays and Sundays whenever I can. My timezone is GMT +8, but I try to follow the CMT timezone just like this page.

With that out of the way, here are some fun facts about me!

Like any other tween in the 2010s, I wrote in Wattpad first. I had a oneshots book that somehow became popular, but I’d rather not go back to it. I dropped Wattpad years ago.

I know four languages, but I could only speak two fluently. I was trying to learn Korean before, but I stopped due to procrastination. I can only read the hangeul characters at this point. The other one? I understood it, but with how off it sounds in my voice, I barely speak it.

I’ve been reading books since I was a kid, and I mostly read fantasy. The only YA novel I genuinely reread is The Hunger Games. I’ll never get tired of it (and I’m Team Peeta all the way even if I’m okay with the idea of Katniss staying single in the end, too).

I’ve played a lot of games that I can’t even list them all here, but I did play Persona 5 Royal, Sonic Mania, Tekken 7, Kingdom Hearts 3, the Ace Attorney trilogy, and more!

Look, I’ve been dipping my toes in a pool of fandoms for years, and I can’t even tell you all of them because I lost track. I’m in the TWST fandom and I’m into anime, games, and a whole lot more. At this point, I’m just a multi-fandom anon who hasn’t taken that plunge yet.

I’ve been writing since I was 10 years old, and I’d like to think that I improved a lot as the years went by.

so i started a side twitter acc for more personal posts but it feels weird not writing it out on tumblr too so here we go, though just gonna copy and paste cause lazy + some more details, but it’s just the usual dilemma i’m having so honestly feel free to skip lmao I really forgot what it’s like to not worry about needing to draw so often or to not feel guilty about not drawing? I remember playing games or doing something or other all day but now I can’t do that without feeling guilty that I’m not drawing or trying to improve my art

I have a shit ton of games in my backlog like the ace attorney games, yuri visuals etc but I’m afraid to pick them up cause when I start something I don’t stop til I finish or else I’ll never go back to it lmao maybe it’s just a skill issue can’t multitask for shii

also funny thing is though i just sit on my ass all day at the computer doing nothing, but i also dont want to do anything despite all the games i said i have in my backlog;;;;

Get me out of this mindset!!!! This is one of the reasons why I wanted to go on a hiatus

My day job also takes up literally 3/4 of my day so like what’s time?  I mean I’m grateful that I even have a job but u know. I guess I gotta start learning how to time manage

Mb it also has smth to do with “if I don’t draw/post I’m gonna get forgotten and I’m afraid of that” -insert abandonment issues- so I feel the need to draw and get better. Not that I’m doing that often lately anyway simply cause I’m v burnt out hence back to the hiatus thing

And because I haven’t been drawing a lot lately, I’m feeling that sense of being left behind and forgotten which makes me feel down esp when I see other artists exceeding and going places.

I’ve constantly told myself that art is just going to be a hobby but my mind keeps wiring itself to “professional” standards

Surprise!!!

So, um...  I hope none of you thought I’d stopped making digital art after I just got into it.  I’ve actually been working on a number of digital projects -- I just haven’t gotten most of them finished just yet.  😅  One of these was a request from a friend of mine and fellow Ask Ace Attorney moderator (he goes by Mod Justice there), which I just recently finished!  It’s a bit on the depressing side, but sometimes you just have to share your experiences (and the experiences every human being) in an artistic way.

The drawing’s subject matter was originally going to be a favorite YouTuber of his, but that ended up not working out, so I decided to change it to a favorite character of mine -- none other than the Courtroom Revolutionnaire herself, Athena Cykes!

What a surprise, am I right?  😏

As peppy and optimistic as she’s known to be, she's definitely been through her share of ups, downs, way ups, and way downs.  (And neutrals, of course.  Can’t forget those.)  I can imagine one of the way downs looking something like this: 

This isn’t meant to be a specific point in the Ace Attorney timeline -- it could be during one of the rougher parts of her lawyering adventures, or just an ordinary moment that found her attacked by fears and doubts.  One thing you can be sure about when it comes to fears and doubts is that they don’t need an invitation to visit you, and many of them can be birthed from the words you’ve heard from others that were either meant to bring you down or that you ended up taking that way.  Letting go of these words and moving on is undoubtedly one of the biggest challenges of life.  It certainly has been for me, at least.

In Athena’s case, I imagine said words (no pun intended) would include those spoken to her by a rude classmate...

...a friend whom she frustrated by accident because of her sensitive hearing...

...cranky and impatient employers who took it out on her...

...and of course, the judge who refused to listen to her during her childhood.

And I haven’t even gotten into the traumatic moment that happened before that.  That’s something I can’t even imagine dealing with.

Just as a side note, “you really haven’t changed much” is something a former employer of mine once said to me.  I later learned that they were going through some problems of their own at the time, but nonetheless, it’s taken me quite some time to get past it.  If I ever become an employer somewhere down the road, God forbid me from ever saying that to someone who works for me.

This leads me to another thing I’ve noticed about fears and doubts -- they don’t have to have the same origin in order to attack you at the same time.  Sometimes they swarm in when you happen to be stressed, tired, discouraged, angry, or a combination thereof.  I wonder if that’s where the saying “misery loves company” comes from?  🤔

I wouldn’t draw or share something like this without including the positive side of it, of course.  In this case, it’s Athena herself and who she is today, not to mention what she’s been able to accomplish despite these fears and doubts.  You sure couldn’t tell by looking at her what all she’s been through...

...but as she herself could tell you, even the happiest face has a mind behind it, which can, and often does, house some form of fear, sorrow, stress, and numerous other negative emotions.  While a person’s struggle against them is a lifelong one, learning how to acknowledge them without dwelling on them, override them, and enjoy your life with or without them is what makes all the difference.

I’m no expert in psychology or psychotherapy, just to be clear.  Just someone making observations about my own struggles with negative emotions.  If you’ve had to deal with them day in and day out yourself (in other words, if you’re a human being), rest assured that you’re not alone.  If we’re gonna struggle, we might as well do it together.  😉

The main point I hope to convey with this drawing is that the quality of your life depends largely on the words you listen to, as well as a second point: words are powerful tools that can either build up or destroy those who hear them, so always remember to use them wisely, whether spoken or written.  I plan to use them as wisely as possible, both here and elsewhere.  Wish me luck!
