Worn and Torn

My earphones are old and worn, Length kinked and bent, Plastic splitting and wire exposed. No matter how one tries to preserve their health, Death always catches up.

The back of my pocket watch falls off, Exposing the inner secrets of its motion And allowing my fingers to graze over gear teeth. It feels taboo, Like rifling through someone's guts, But sometimes you have to stuff their intestines back in.

I see the sands of time wearing away at the world. They remind us with aching joints and weak lower backs and exhaustion That we are not exempt.
