actually tho??? we only get a handful of interactions btwn ed and stede's crew, but now im THINKINGGG abt ed and frenchie's interactions specifically

unlike with lucius where we get a handful conversations btwn just him and ed, the only times we rlly see ed interact with frenchie are around other ppl but theyre still SO interesting like. frenchie is the one to speak up and ask if they're gonna be allowed to live when ed's introducing himself to stede's crew. we don't see it, but frenchie must've helped ed rehearse his sad breakup song before performing it in front of the crew. and when ed calls him into his cabin frenchie walks in smiling like "heyy bro what's up" (but then he immediately picks up on the vibe and goes on the surrendering defense)

and OUGH episode 5 is like the most frenchie/ed interactions we get and they're all pretty quick and subtle but they're literally so interesting. the last time frenchie and ed interacted, frenchie was nervously asking if he was gonna be allowed to live, but now here's frenchie just trying on fancy clothes from the ship they raided and bringing some fancy party invitation to his captain. and then when they get on the ship and ed puts on the jeff persona, frenchie mumbles "you know you can pick anything, right?" to ed and it's not like, judgy, but it's still a big difference from stammering, "hi, blackbeard, sir, are we gonna be allowed to live?" and then frenchie starts pulling his whole scam right in front of ed (and it's not in the show but that one behind-the-scenes picture shows ed's wide-eyed expression as he watches frenchie effortlessly trick a fancy white person into kissing olu's hand), and there's a tiny moment when ed's been laughed out of the dining room and stede is talking him down and ed looks to frenchie before actually listening to stede.

and AUAGHUGH it's so fucking iNTERESTING to me bc WHAT IS ED THINKING. WHAT IS ED'S OPINION OF FRENCHIE. like the thing that gets me with ed is how at the end of e10 he singles jim out and it's kinda out of nowhere?? we don't see him observing jim at any point, but at the same time i'm not surprised that he's had his eye on them. and it's not a huge leap to assume he's been watching stede's crew the whole time, at least to some degree, right? even tho he's having a blast hanging out with stede and taking it easy, in the back of his mind he's still taking stock of the situation, analyzing the crew and their behavior and their skills.

SO LIKE??? WHAT DOES ED THINK OF FRENCHIE. WHAT'S HIS OPINION OF FRENCHIE. WHY DID HE KEEP FRENCHIE. oughughug i wish we'd gotten more interactions of the two between episode 5 and 10 bc episode 5 mustve changed a LOT of ed's opinion of frenchie!!!! fuuuuuck im SO interested to see where they go with these two in the next season. there's literally so much potential there i hope we get a lot of the two of them
