So, this is from Local Call, it's related to 972mag. I shared from 972mag before, the journalists writing for it are Israelis and Palestinians. This is by Oren Ziv.

Translating the title: a doctor was investigated following a complaint that she blocked Jewish colleagues online.

I don't know all the terms to translate the rest directly, but she's from the West Bank and she was working in Israel (residency, if I'm choosing the right word?) and she was arrested and investigated for blocking some colleagues on social media. Her permit to enter Israel was revoked as a result. The Association for Civil Rights in Israel says that it's a silencing tactic.

People, especially Palestinians, have been getting arrested etc for online posts for a while now, but the article says this is extreme even for the current situation.

She says they also questioned her regarding friend requests she didn't approve. She said she didn't block anyone, she just deactivated her accounts a while ago and she only restored them recently around the end of September or October. They took her phone.

In a letter from the Association for Civil Rights to the police they said that no one was clear about what she's a suspect of, she got no warning and no opportunity to talk to a lawyer.

She worked for a few more weeks after this, and then took a break for a few days at home, and when she tried to come back they told her she has no permit anymore. The hospital has no objection to having her back. She says she had good relationships with colleagues. She police took her from work and it was hard for her with everyone seeing and having no idea why she's being arrested.

The Association for Civil Rights tries to get the investigation to close and to get her the permit back so she can return to work. The lawyer who represents her through the association says it's one of the most extreme cases of harassment and political persecution.

The lawyer says that even without taking it further, the arrest and the investigation already caused her harm. A right to a good reputation, to privacy, to freedom of work and freedom of speech.

I don't have much to add, I'm just stunned.

Proposals for physical merch are one of the categories of submissions, email propheciesofdoomzine@yahoo.com with ideas for things like pins, stickers, keychains, etc. Handmade items are welcome and encouraged if you have the time!

Q: Is NSFW content allowed? A: Yes, both art and writing. All submissions that include violence, gore, nudity, sex, etc will be marked as such. In the event that a physical zine is made there will be curated versions including a safe for work version. When you submit your works please include any potential content warnings. Request Challenge (Ao3)

I am moving my Ao3 Request Series to Tumblr and Patreon (early access and first picks). If you are not familiar with the request challenges I do on Ao3, under the name TheOriginalSinner888, it is simple. I post the challenge, how many requests I am accepting, and you comment your request (including your Ao3 account name if you want a shoutout) by the deadline date posted and I pick randomly which ones I fulfill. As long as they fall within the rules and regulations, they have a chance of getting picked.

Since this is a new platform for receiving the requests, things are going to work just a little differently. I will be posting the challenge to tumblr and patreon and publicizing them on my other social medias. But I will only be picking from the comments to my patreon and tumblr, not Instagram or TikTok.

As this post is doing numbers, I just want to remind folk this is not the end of the world. It's just a new security risk that everyone should be aware of in order to not fall for it.

I did not intend to cause a panic but to make folk aware. Folk can't avoid things they don't know are a risk.

As much as some tech-savvy folk are saying it's not an issue, my concern isn't for the extremely tech savvy, my concern is for average users making an understandable mistake (the way I've had to teach new hires how to use file directories shows what some of us think of as standard knowledge is not thanks to so many folk primarily using tablets and phones now) and the not-savvy users (like elders) getting fooled. Sometimes the warning sign is not for you, and the rest of us can tell when you haven't been dealing with average user behaviors for a long time.

It's not a giant deal but it is creating scenarios that are ripe for exploitation. It's just a shame that folk at Google and ICANN approved it. Now we all have to be aware of it to deal with that result.

Since a couple of folk asked, .zip and .mov URLs will not overwrite your ability to access local files. The concern I brought up above is more about folk confusing automatically resolved hyperlinks from plain text or search bars with legitimate files or intentional links.

You don't need to boycott anyone over it, and the horse is already out of the gate so it's not likely to go away even if you protest it.

Just be aware and be cautious.

Right now, since the domains are new and very few if any legitimate registration uses have been made, it's not a bad idea to block the TLDs at least temporarily until there's known legitimate uses, the initial fervor has died down, and awareness has increased. "The ICSS recommends to disable access to .zip domains entirely until the dust settles and risks can be accessed."

I saw some folk saying adding ||zip^ and ||mov^ (including the || and ^s) to your My Filters tab in uBlock Origin will do it for the browser that has uBlock enabled, but I have not tested it.

New Things to Beware on the Internet

On May 3rd, Google released 8 new top-level domains (TLDs) -- these are new values like .com, .org, .biz, domain names. These new TLDs were made available for public registration via any domain registrar on May 10th.

Usually, this should be a cool info, move on with your life and largely ignore it moment.

Except a couple of these new domain names are common file type extensions: ".zip" and ".mov".

This means typing out a file name could resolve into a link that takes you to one of these new URLs, whether it's in an email, on your tumblr blog post, a tweet, or in file explorer on your desktop.

What was previously plain text could now resolve as link and go to a malicious website where people are expecting to go to a file and therefore download malware without realizing it.

Folk monitoring these new domain registrations are already seeing some clearly malicious actors registering and setting this up. Some are squatting the domain names trying to point out what a bad idea this was. Some already trying to steal your login in credentials and personal info.

This is what we're seeing only 12 days into the domains being available. Only 5 days being publicly available.

What can you do? For now, be very careful where you type in .zip or .mov, watch what website URLs you're on, don't enable automatic downloads, be very careful when visiting any site on these new domains, and do not type in file names without spaces or other interrupters.

I'm seeing security officers for companies talking about wholesale blocking .zip and .mov domains from within the company's internet, and that's probably wise.

Be cautious out there.

looking in hindsight, kamala's run was extremely flawed and the dnc had no idea what they were doing; biden's admins are even distancing themselves from kamala to try and save their image. it is all very clear that the voters did not fail kamala, the democratic party that failed the voters.

i hope this doesn't come off as kicking a dog when it's down, i just wanted to let you know that there's was little the voters could do to help mend a broken campaign. we just need to hope the dems have learned their lessons and will evolve from this.

i really had to wrack my brain about why i could possibly be receiving this and then i remembered my “we failed you kamala” post and i understood. but to be clear, “we” was NOT the democratic voters??? it’s pretty much everyone but the people who actually showed up and voted blue but also just generally referring to america as a whole

i really have to disagree with you on your points about her campaign. to say that biden’s distance from kamala’s campaign is in any way for HIS benefit is laughable. that was a very very calculated choice but it was calculated on kamala’s part to separate her own platform from his poor approval ratings. it didn’t work well largely in part because of her own hesitance to criticize his presidential run, but that is fair enough because as his vice president it’s incredibly difficult to run a platform where you disparage the acting present while you are literally still on his team. it would have just been confusing and got her accused of hypocrisy so there wasn’t much for her to do in the way of that

your criticism of her campaign is not entirely unwarranted but you’re not affording them enough grace. there was very little time to prepare for the switch and i think it was handled well considering how rushed it was forced to be. that doesn’t mean there’s no blame to place on the dnc / how it was conducted but to try and blame any single group or entity is not logical. the failure is a combination of the places where her campaign lacked - particularly in the way it failed to cater to voting blocks that should have been securely blue, third party voters, voter suppression, republican voters, independent voters without good decision making skills, racism, misogyny, and a thousand other minute factors that are practically untraceable

it’s understandable to be frustrated right now and look for a single person or thing to point at and blame but it’s not fair to put that on kamala and her campaign when it was clear she put everything she had into this. the democrats learned so much from hillary’s failure and that was so obvious in the deliberate choices made by kamala’s campaign that were so starkly different and so well calculated. there are just some obstacles that are insurmountable and all we can do is hope that one day that will change and america will get to see people of all genders, races, identities, and backgrounds serve as the president. not yet, and probably not in our lifetimes, but someday (assuming there is still a presidency to strive for but despite my excessively defeatist mindset yesterday i do think there will be)

A couple updates to this!

My medical leave got approved! However, because of how they approved it and the fact that they still have no idea what's going on with me, I can't return to work until late June. I'm still Dashing here and there, but I'm starting to get really burnt out, and I have no idea when I'll actually start getting money from the state.

As of this morning, I am once again -$530 even after clawing my way to a $500 week with DoorDash and probably worsening my medical condition by working so much.

Any little amount will help. As of right now, I cannot pay for my car insurance, or my car, or any of our other bills, and I need to keep my car and have it insured so that I can Dash and keep making the small bits of money I can make.

Even if you can't donate anything, a reblog would be a huge help. 💜

Please Help Us Out With Bills

Currently, I'm virtually unemployed due to health issues and my employer all but refuses to give me short term disability pay because I don't have a diagnosis yet. I'm doing DoorDash as much as I can, which brings in ~$150 a week if that. It leaves my roommate, @kitthekazoo, to cover most of the mutual bills - like rent - virtually on her own. But that does mean she can't pay her own bills (like car and insurance) after paying the second half of our rent this month.

Like I said, I'm doing DoorDash around doctor's appointments and other activities, like school (which is paid for by my employer, who I still technically work for, I'm just on an extended medical leave - it's excused time off, but I don't get paid at all), but that doesn't bring in much. My checking account (where my DD money goes) is negative almost $400 because things keep taking out and every single one of those charges also incurs an insufficient funds fee of $31.

I would need ~$750 just to get positive enough to pay Kit back for my half of this rent payment. Plus I have my own bills to pay - car insurance, credit cards I'm desperately trying to catch up with the payments on, gas so I can keep doing DD, etc.

I know it's a lofty goal, but getting $1k by the end of the month will keep us sane and housed while I navigate my medical issues. Hopefully, after we run a few tests next week, they'll have a better idea of what's going on and when I'll be able to go back to work, and these money issues won't keep coming up...

“Where are we going?”

Spencer drummed his fingers against the steering wheel, letting out a quiet hum in lieu of a response.

“Spence?” you asked, noticing the nervous way he fidgeted. Despite the case being over and you all having a free day and a half in Vegas, he hadn’t seemed to relax and you couldn’t quite pinpoint why.

After a few more seconds of silence, Spencer finally spoke. “I thought that maybe we… we could go visit my mom.” You didn’t respond, and he glanced over to see you staring at him with wide eyes. “Or not. We don’t—we don’t have to. It was a stupid idea, sorry.”

“No, no,” you said in a rush. “I would love to! I’m just surprised is all.”

Spencer shot you an almost shy smile. “I figured it was about time.”

That quiet admittance was almost too much to bear. He had told you about his mother, of course he had, but you honestly hadn’t known how much she even knew about you. You had wanted to meet her for so long, but that self-doubt still tugged at you. “What if she doesn’t like me?”

He let out a scoff, raising an eyebrow at you. “She’s going to love you.”

Diana sat quietly in the corner of the recreation room, swaying in the rocking chair, her gaze directed out the window. She smiled slightly to herself as a dove flew by and landed on a nearby tree branch.

Spencer stood across the room watching for a moment, bouncing up and down on the balls of his feet. He stopped when he felt your hand on his. “Spence, it’s okay.” You arched an eyebrow. “I thought I was supposed to be the nervous one.”

He let out a shaky laugh and nodded. You squeezed his hand again as you made your way towards Diana.

“Mom?” he called out softly.

You watched the exchange wordlessly, the pure joy in Spencer’s eyes pulling at your heartstrings. It was simple to see the love they had for one another just from their brilliant smiles.

“Spencer, what are you doing here?”

Spencer squatted down next to her. “I wanted to see you.”

“I saw a dove today—that means luck. I didn’t know that that luck would be you.” She leaned forward, studying his face. “You look happy.”

“Mom.” He glanced at you. “There’s someone I want you to meet. This is Y/N.”

Diana looked up at you for the first time, her grin only growing wider. “Hello, Y/N.”

You gave a little wave, almost instantly chastising yourself for your awkwardness. “Hello, Mrs. Reid. It’s so great to meet you.”

“Please, call me Diana.”

“I'm pretty sure your mom hates me.”

“What?” Spencer squeaked out. “No, she doesn’t.”

You leveled your gaze at him. “I spilled the tea all over and I dropped the cookies and—and I’m an entire disaster.”

“No, you’re not.”

“Oh, yeah?” It came out as almost a hiss under your breath. “Then why am I getting the third degree? I can’t go back in there.”

Spencer laughed quietly, wrapping an arm around you and pulling you close. “You’re reading far too much into things. She just wants to get to know you, she likes asking questions.”

You let out a huff of air, sinking into his embrace. After another moment, you nodded. “Okay, let’s go.”

“You sure?”

You nodded again. “But you hold the tea this time.”

Spencer pressed a kiss to your cheek. “Okay, dear.”

Spencer was right—it was all in your head. It shouldn’t have surprised you, he always seemed to be right.

Once you had finally relaxed, the conversation flowed easily. The three of you spent hours sitting in the recreation room, Diana telling you stories about Spencer’s childhood.

“Spencer, do you remember when I told you the story of Andromeda and Perseus?” Diana turned towards you. “I finished the story and he said, ‘Mom, that doesn’t make any sense. There’s no such thing as sea monsters.’ And I told him, ‘Spencer, it’s just a myth. It’s a story about love.’ And you know what he said to me?”

You laughed, shaking your head.

“He said to me, ‘Myths are supposed to explain natural events or justify religious beliefs. What does some guy rescuing a girl from a sea monster have to do with any of that?’ Can you believe that? He was ten.” Diana chuckled, her smile beaming.

You couldn’t help but stifle a giggle as a flush creeped up Spencer’s face. “Mom,” he said with an almost whine. “You’re embarrassing me.”

“Oh shush, Spence.” You shook your head, taking his hand in yours. “I could listen to this all day.”

“Spencer was such a special kid,” Diana continued. “Still is. If it was up to his father he would have had a house full of brothers and sisters. But I always said why mess with perfection?”

Spencer choked back a mortified snort, dropping his head back against his chair.

You turned towards him with wide, amused eyes. “Spencer, you didn’t tell me your mother was a genius too.”

Spencer left the room with promises of returning soon with a stack of books from the car. As soon as he disappeared around the corner, Diana turned to you and leaned in close. “Can I tell you a secret?” she whispered, a gleam in her eyes.

You were startled by her question, but you nodded. The nerves from before rose back to the surface along with the sinking feeling that she was going to tell you something that you didn’t want to hear. “Of course.”

“You’re good for Spencer. I can tell these kinds of things. A mother knows.” She tapped her temple with her index finger, a wise smile flashing on her face. “I’ve never seen him this happy.”

It felt like your heart might explode out of your chest at her words. You couldn’t control the grin that tugged at your lips as you leaned in towards Diana in return. You whispered, “Can I tell you a secret, too?”

She nodded eagerly. “Of course.”

“I’m going to spend the rest of my life with your son.”

“Not as bad as you thought, right?” Spencer asked, his eyes searching yours as though he was looking for approval.

You shook your head vehemently, grinning so widely that your cheeks ached. “Spence, I love your mother. Love, love, love.”

He tugged you into a hug, pulling you nearly out of your seat and into his. “Good,” he said, laughing softly and pressing a kiss to your cheek. “Because I love, love, love you.”

Truff'la Trees

(forget formalities, lets jump right into this cause I have decided that because I'm reentering Undertale, I should also write a frostler fic for some unknown reason, curse of the url I bet)

The guardian of the trees warning had gotten through to The Onceler easily, and out of habit, he just listened and followed instruction for approval.

Since then, Thneed production has dropped, and the price has risen, an item in high demand. Along with that, the seeds of few trees have been sold at an extraordinarily high price, the buyers never manage to propagate the tree properly. The only thing The Onceler found odd about the land of trees was that winter never came, it was practically an eternal harvest season.

The Lorax had to explain why there never was winter, and even then, it didn't clear up very much, but with no better explanation, The Onceler believed it.

It was mid august, and the first Truffula in years had been cut down, it was old and soon to die, rotting at the core, so might as well put the tree out of its misery. With a thud the tree landed, bark covered in what appeared to be powdery mildew, the foliage of the tree had much more, and it was cold. In all his years of living here, in an open field forest glade, he had never found any plant that was cold to the touch.

Yet, he still remembered when he didn't live here, in this land of trees.

Everyone year, from late october to the end of march, sometimes pushing april, the ground would be covered in snow and the weather would grow cold.

He remembered that time as winter.

It was odd though, as winter never came here.

"Well, that's odd," Said The Onceler, raising his sky blue, glittering shades. "Winter never comes here."

"Yeah well, Jack Frost had other ideas," Someone, presumably Jack Frost, stated before dropping down from a neighboring tree that was also covered in frost, more than the last. "Besides, I think it's time the land of trees gets some snow, looking a bit green for my tastes."

"That's illogical," The Onceler said, Jack Frost gestured for the green bean to continue. "The Lorax, he who speaks for the trees, said that there is never snow here."

"Well guess fucking what, the guardian of some trees has no control over the weather spirits." Jack Frost said before tapping his cane on the ground, a spiraling pattern of frost coated the grass.

"I need the Truffula trees to constantly be 'in bloom' for lack of better times, otherwise everything I've worked for will go to shit in mere seconds." The Onceler stated, crossing his gloved arms, leaning on his axe a bit.

"Maybe your work will go to nothing, but think of the truff'la trees, they need a break to, don't they deserve a break as well?" Jack Frost asked, offering a smirk, The Onceler took a second before responding.

"Well, I, yes, I suppose they do, but if winter comes they'll surely die, won't they?" The Onceler asked, straightening out his posture and slinging his axe over his left shoulder.

"Yes, yes they will, but, what is life without death?" Jack Frost asked, leaning on his staff with arms crossed.

"Not, life...?" The Onceler said, although it sounded like more of a question, Jack Frost gave a small laugh.

"Without balance, green man, life would be imbalanced without death, and I think it's time these trees say goodnight." Jack Frost said before standing at his full height, shorter than The Onceler by nearly a foot, he raised his staff, prepping himself to slam it back down and send a frigid winter across the entire.

"Doesn't this seem a bit much, I barely know you," The Onceler said, Jack Frost raised a brow as he propped his staff over his left shoulder, paralleling The Onceler. "We can make a deal can't we, I don't want to live in a tent wagon again, and I'm sure it's quite a bit of work for you to coat this entire field in snow and ice."

"It wouldn't be to much effort for me to bankrupt you in an instant, but I suppose I could hear your plea," Jack Frost said, faking a yawn before lowering his staff again, refraining from hopping on top of the crooked wood. "Make it snappy though, I got to check in on Canada, make sure that no ones letting them have an early spring."

"How about we, play a game," The Onceler said, dropping down his axe to pace in spot just a bit, Jack Frost seemed intrigued at the idea and gestured vaguely for the 'lumberjack' to continue. "You know, towns just an hour away, and I'm sure that there are a few good restaurants in town, a movie theatre I'm sure."

"A dating game?" Jack Frost inquired, The Onceler gestured in a near circling motion with his hands, giving a small and long noise that most likely meant yes.

"Yes, a dating game." The Onceler said, form clearly tense, but gait steady and circling around Jack Frost.

"I would love to, but people can't see me, unlike you, you freakish green bean, tis a shame that one guardian choosing you means that the rest of us are visible to you alone well," Jack Frost said, smirking as he shot down The Oncelers last gambit, drawing his staff. "And because of that, I guess I get to cause the first ice age on this special bit of land your old chum The Lorax kept safe for so long."

"Wait!" The Onceler snapped, pulling Jack Frost from his action mid slam.

"What, you fool, I'm just doing my job, you do yours." Jack Frost said, starting to become agitated with the smalltalk.

"One week, give me one week to convince you to leave the land of trees be." The Onceler pleaded.

"How so?" Jack Frost asked, vaguely gesturing once again.

"One week to woo you, for lack of better terms, a personal dating game, just you, me and the land of trees." The Onceler offered, Jack Frost smirked before slinging the staff over his right shoulder, putting out a hand to shake.

"We have a deal, green man." Jack Frost said, The Onceler took his hand in a shake.

"I have a name you know." The Onceler stated, Jack Frost smirked.

"Oh really?" Jack Frost asked.

"I am, The Onceler."

Why did you choose your header? My all-time favorite song inspired this picture.  I'm terrible at translating songs. And most of the meaning would get lost anyway. But basically, the guy is telling his girl how beautiful the morning is and the nature around them. And he continues to compare their life together through nature analogies. And then he describes the feeling that the girl created by saying, "I do." :’)  No other reason.

Proposal/Wedding (1/3)

Notes: I’m trying to get back into writing to help me cope with some stuff happening in my life, hopefully you enjoy this fic as much as I enjoyed writing it. I’m going to try to continue writing in my second semester of college but I’ve got a really tough load coming up so I can’t promise anything. I’m thinking of 3 parts, proposal, wedding and honeymoon? Honeymoon being smutty as hell for those of you who are horny. Also, I’ve kind of stopped playing choices since the quality of LI’s, especially female LI’s has gone down and the stories have declined. I’ve moved towards Episode and Lovestruck but I’m not sure if I’ll write for any new pairings. I might change my URL to a different Kamilah name too, but I’ll change my masterlist as well. I’ve got a sideblog kamilahsayeedismyqueen in case you are interested in that. 

Pairing: Kamilah x MC (Amy)

Kamilah slowly stepped into Raines Cooperation, her palms sweaty and her heart racing as she strides towards the elevator. She patted her pocket, making sure the box was still there, safe and protected. She hit the button to reach the top floor, Adrian waiting for her outside of his office. 

“Kamilah, what have you brought to discuss?” His puzzled expression made Kamilah stifle a small laugh. 

“Let’s go into your office, I have to make a difficult...well let me explain once we’re in private.” Kamilah’s stern voice gave Adrian a clear sign of the serious matter. They walked into his office, both taking a seat at his desk before Kamilah placed the velvet box in front of him, his eyes widening in shock. 

“Kamilah...is this what I think it is?” His eyes lighting up and a large smile appearing on his face.

“Yes. I believe it’s time I made Amy mine, permanently. I just...I want to make sure this is perfect, I want to make sure she’ll love the ring and my little speech as I propose.” Kamilah shifted as Adrian opened the box, nodding his head in approval of the diamond ring. It was gorgeous, a beautiful diamond surrounded by 2 rubies, bound together by 24k gold. 

“Kamilah, she’ll love it...why do you doubt your ability to please her? I’ve never seen you so...uncertain and nervous.” Adrian stood to pat Kamilah’s shoulder, his face formed a small frown as Kamilah sighed. “Show me what you’ve got so far and we’ll figure this out together.” 

“I just...she’s so precious to me, I would live for her and I would die for her. I want nothing more than to spend my life beside her, protecting her, caring for her every need and loving her unconditionally.” Kamilah took a deep breath, the tension in her shoulders dropping. “I would do anything she asked of me, without hesitation. She means everything to me, she fuels me to be the best version of myself, and without her...I don’t think I could carry on, everything would be meaningless.” 

“Kamilah that’s exactly what you should tell her. That was beautiful.” Adrian smiled at Kamilah, who had fresh tears in her eyes, but tears of joy and love. 

“Then I know what I need to do. Thank you Adrian.” Kamilah stood, giving Adrian the tightest hug she had given to anyone besides Amy. She took the ring and gently placed it in her pocket, before healing to the elevator, with nothing but Amy on her mind. 

-------Meanwhile------

“I don’t know Lily, she’s been acting differently for like 2 weeks. I have no idea what’s going on, but it hurts me. She’s distant but then she’ll get this spur of affection from almost nowhere.” Amy sighed, rubbing her head and sipping from her glass of wine. 

“I don’t know Amy, maybe she’s just going through a tough time? Give it time I’m sure she’ll come back to you somehow.” Lily patted Amy on the shoulder, Amy sinking into Lily’s arms and letting out a few tears. Her phone went off, Hot Girl Bummer by Blackbear blasting as she moved to check the message. She felt her heart jump at the sight of Kamilah’s name. 

Dinner and a walk in the Park tonight? 

Yeah, what time?

6? 

I’ll be ready.

Amy looked at the time, Lily puzzled as she poured a shot of vodka. 

17:00 

“Kamilah asked me on a date. I should go get ready, although I’m sure she just wants sex.” Amy sighed, she could never refuse Kamilah, her heart always longed for time with her. 

“I’m sure it will all work out fine Amy, Kamilah...loves you.” Lily nodded as Amy headed to the door, back to the apartment she shared with Kamilah. 

------6 pm-----

Kamilah opened the car door, Amy stepped out of the building in a beautiful red dress, it hugged her sides and showed enough of her legs to drive Kamilah crazy. 

“Amy...you look...wow…” Kamilah choked, her heart racing and her palms sweatier than ever. 

“Mmm.” Amy moved into the car, Kamilah closing the door and going to the driver’s seat, taking the wheel and driving them to the restaurant. 

They were seated immediately, Amy browsing the menu as Kamilah kept glancing at her, captivated by her. 

“Is something wrong Kami?” Amy’s eyes still roaming the menu before placing it down on the table. 

“No, not at all.” 

“I’ve been meaning to talk to you, have I done something wrong? You’ve...been really distant…” The frown on Amy’s face caused Kamilah’s heart to drop. All of the nervousness from planning her proposal took her focus away from Amy. 

“I apologize, I’ve…been busy.” Kamilah placed her hand over Amy’s, her eye’s sparkling in the dim light. “I’ll make it up to you.” 

“I know, I love you.” Amy spoke as the waiter came and took their orders. 

--------Later------

Amy held onto Kamilah’s hand, occasionally rubbing her thumb against hers, a small sign of affection to remind Kamilah of her love. Kamilah remained quiet, enjoying the company of her lover and the silence of the night, the moonlight illuminated all of Amy’s features. 

“Kamilah…” Amy stopped walking as they reached the center of central park, Kamilah growing nervous as her time came. “What’s going on...you’re...really quiet…” 

Kamilah sighed, taking the box out of her pocket and dropping to one knee, Amy’s eyes widening as she realized what was happening. 

“Amy, you’re so precious to me, I want to live with you, for the rest of my life. I want nothing more than to protect you, care for you, love you and be yours for eternity. I want to be the best for you, love you unconditionally, you make me the best version of myself and I love you...so...would you do me the honor and marry me?” Kamilah gulped as she opened the box to reveal the ring. 

“Oh Kamilah...I could never say no…” Amy let Kamilah slide the ring onto her finger, before falling into her arms and kissing her, the soft grass and moonlight setting the perfect mood. 

Kamilah locked their hands together, their lips locked and their hearts beating quickly. 

“We should start wedding planning soon you know…” Amy mumbled between Kamilah’s kisses. 

“That can wait for tomorrow...but I’m going to marry you as soon as I can Amy. I promise.” Kamilah smiled at Amy, before they stood and walked back towards home, together, as an engaged couple.

NFTs, huh.

I guess I’m writing this on my blog, even though it’s a bad fit for the ~aesthetic~, because it feels like I’m the one writing it? I dunno.

NFTs, huh.

I see a lot of criticism of NFTs as being a matter of “buying a receipt” or “buying a piece of paper that says you own a piece of art” or something along those lines, and criticism revolving around the fact that there’s a lot of “stealing” art by making NFTs of something without the artist’s approval. These, I feel, are wrong in important ways.

Now, before I get into the specific mechanics, an aside: I think “stealing” only has meaning when it refers to things that can’t simply be duplicated. You can steal my chair, because once you have it I don’t have it anymore. You can steal my chicken, because once you have it I don’t have it anymore. You can’t steal my mp3, or my OC, or my idea for a shark-mounted laser cannon, because I still have them. Interestingly, this means I think you can’t steal digital art, but you can steal an NFT.

Anyway. What is an NFT, and why isn’t it a receipt for a picture? Let’s look at an example: Galactic Apes. The linked website describes a game, where you create crews of various apes and send them on missions, and the composition of the crew affects their success. This sounds like some sort of trading card game, except that instead of Commons and Rares and so on every unit (9999 of them) is Unique. Now, the whole of the actual game is in the Roadmap and doesn’t exist - interpret that as you wish - but the tokens are minted and have been sold and traded and listed for sale and so on.

Let’s zoom in on Galactic Ape #71, listed at time of writing on OpenSea for 1.09 ETH (approximately $5k). What is Galactic Ape #71? Well, there’s a specific code on the Ethereum blockchain - 0x12d2D1beD91c24f878F37E66bd829Ce7197e4d14 - that is the address for Galactic Apes, and then it’s token 70 (because counting from 0, don’t worry too much about that) of GALAPE. Getting into the entire nature of a blockchain ledger is a bit much for this post, but it’s not dramatically different from a bank or warehouse ledger or whatever. You can go here to see the transaction history for Galactic Ape #71 and that shows you who owns it at any given time. So. How do we get from that ledger to this image, the art that you are loosely implied to own if you purchase Galactic Ape #71?

Yeah, look at that motherfucker. Galactic as shit.

Okay. So the ledger - the part that has all the benefits of the blockchain, from decentralization to public accountability to ecological devastation - says you own token 70 of GALAPE, and that GALAPE points to https://ipfs.io/ipfs/QmRDdnGJYQhPjq8ebxtsea8cptCUkgZwgBMnq1grW8mWJr/. Now, ipfs isn’t a part of the blockchain, though it is also decentralized, for what it’s worth. For token 70, you go to the appropriate ipfs file and get this information:

That’s it. It’s just that text. Then the image url in that text leads you to the image I posted above (which can presumably be generated by a proprietary algorithm from the traits listed in the ipfs file? This is a guess on my part, though).

So, to clarify. You’re not buying a receipt for this image. You’re not buying a piece of paper that says you own this image. You’re buying a collectible coin, with less than 10,000 ever made, each stamped with its individual number, and if you go scan that coin in the coin scanner it shows you the traits of your ape character and gives you a QR code you can scan with your phone to see a picture of your ape.

Also the company said that at some point they’re gonna release a game you can play with these coins if you trade to get the right ones.

So don’t worry! Nobody’s burning the rainforest to sell your art for thousands of dollars with none to you. They’re burning the rainforest to sell a collectible hyperlink to your art for thousands of dollars with none to you!

Summary: Mankai Company decides to participate in a Chinatown event. During the event, Guy witnesses something suspicious. Everybody was kungfu fighting. Those cats were fast as lightning. In fact, it was a little bit frightening. But they fought with expert timing..

It seems like all the troupes that have won in the past have all had a play with a lot of Chinese themes.

So that’s why thought it would be a good idea to try a Chinese mafia story with a lot of kungfu action.

Well, it’s just I was watching some let’s plays for an otome game recently..

And one of my favourite characters in the game is a Chinese mafia member! He’s soooo cool!

Azami  

An… Otome game?

Guy  

Hmm, one of Little Prince’s favourite characters.

Izumi  

Uhh well I’m glad we got your seal of approval, Muku.

Sakuya  

I think it’s a good idea too.

Well the only thing I’m worried about is being able to learn kungfu for the action scenes.

Homare  

I do not know much about kungfu either. It seems like we would definitely need some special training beforehand.

Taichi  

Oh, if you’re worried about kungfu then autumn troupe has got you covered! We can lead the way! Isn’t that right, Acchan?

Well, I’m not sure you could really call us experts..

It’ll be alright! After all we also got the martial arts expert himself, Mr. Guy on our team!

Whilst I cannot say I have as much experience performing action scenes on stage like Autumn Troupe, I am willing to lend some of my expertise wherever I can.
