In a lot of iterations of TMNT Leonardo always seems to have a strong moral compass & the same possibly seems true for Leo in Rise as well as he often seems mindful of the safety of civilians
Raph: Alright you incredibly, unusually buff book worm! Give us the little guy and you’ll walk out of here with your horns still attached
Leo: Shouldn’t we also stop him from creating crab men?
Leo: I say we revise Raph’s plan to make sure this guy doesn’t get mutated
Leo: Hey April, cool if you don’t, but do you still have that Orb with all the people of New York in it?
Leo has often expressed concern for the wellbeing of strangers throughout the series, when April & the Turtles first encountered Draxum it was Leo who said that they should stop Draxum from mutating people & Leo later actively tries to stop the soon to be Bull Hop from getting mutated in Bug Busters.
In the episode Anatawa Hitorijanai, Leo is also the one that expresses concern over the fate of the people of New York even though the family already has a lot to deal with, with the Shredder.
However in contrast to how Leo is arguably one of the most mindful of the safety of strangers he also seems as though he’s arguably the most unsympathetic towards villains when compared to the rest of his family
Mikey: We haven’t found the armour and we can’t leave him to get eaten
Leo: Oh great, we get to save the guy who once repoed a birthday cake
April: We’ve gotta help him get his friend/ roomie/ it’s complicated back from Baron Draxum! It’s my Birthday Wish!
Leo: You’re invoking B-Day right on him!
Donnie: Ah a moral quandary, do we give the antidote to the villain or-
Leo: Poison? Antidote? Everything he makes is delicious!
While Leo is often concerned with the safety of strangers whenever one of the Turtle’s villains are in need of help, Leo typically seems as though he’s the one most opposed to the idea of helping one of their enemies which can be seen when Leo was reluctant to save Repo in the episode One Man’s Junk or when he expressed disbelief over April wanting to help Warren save Hypno in the episode Warren and Hypno, Sitting in a Tree.
In the episode Pizza Puffs Leo also demonstrated his reluctance to help villains when he decided to use the remaining antidote to eat more pizza puffs over giving the last of the antidote to Meat Sweats
At first glance it would seem as though Leo has some sort of ‘black & white’ view on morality where he prioritises the safety of ‘innocent people’ but is unsympathetic towards enemies or evil doers however it’s shown that Leo is not always against helping former enemies.
Leo: You can’t just kick out your untrustworthy criminal brother, he’s family. So whaddya need skin man?
In the episode The Hidden City Job Leo is the one that pushes Señor Hueso to help Capitán Piel even though the last time they saw each other, Leo was actively fighting Piel’s pirate crew, Leo wanting to help Piel seems to go against the idea that Leo is unsympathetic towards enemies which leads to the question on what makes the situation with Piel different than the other situations where one of the Turtles enemies have needed help?
Leo: Wait! I know a brother squabble when I see one and there’s no one better to un-squabble you than moi
Señor Hueso: Aren’t you here because you had a fight with your brother?
The first reason that Leo might be more sympathetic to Piel than he is with other villains is because Piel needed help mending his relationship with his brother Señor Hueso.
It’s been shown time & time that family is incredibly important to Leo so it could be possible that Leo simply cannot stand the idea of family fighting which made him more inclined to help Piel, it’s also worth noting that during the episode The Hidden City Job, Leo had recently gotten into an argument with Donnie, so Leo might be projecting his argument with his own brother onto Piel & Hueso.
Leo: I freed you from your pirate prison. Your welcome.
Raph: Pirate prison?
Mikey: You portalled us to Tahiti!
The second reason on why Leo might have been more sympathetic towards helping Piel than he is with other villains is that Piel had never actively tried to harm Leo’s brothers.
In the episode Portal Jacked the reason Leo was fighting Capitán Piel’s crew in the first place was that Leo had thought that the pirates had kidnapped his brothers which turned out not to be the case as instead Raph, Donnie & Mikey had been in Tahiti during the events of the episode meaning it’s possible that Leo doesn’t hold the same animosity towards Piel that he would with other villains as Piel hasn’t gone out of his way to bring harm to Leo’s family the way other villains have
So rather than Leo having some sort of ‘black & white’ view on morality where he prioritises the safety of ‘innocent people’ but is unsympathetic towards enemies or evil doers it’s more likely that Leo has the mindset where he wants to protect people but is unsympathetic towards those that have tried to harm his family.

looking at the way leo is in the prison au, i wonder how the rottmnt villains feel about basically beating a turtle while they're down since they are still their enemies and are presumably going to cause problems post-Kraang invasion
also, do you think maybe the foot are just horrified by what's happening to leo? or even that hypno and warren feel messed up thinking that the key brought the Kraang here and now some poor teenager-ish guy is hurt all the time because of that?
and thank you for making this! i really love this au!
[ cw// death mention / ]
Oh the villains are gonna be fun, I have some ideas that I wanna draw up sometime soon 👀👀
Basically, the villains in general are appropriately horrified by Leo, just as a concept. He’s a semi zombie boy who EVERYONE thought was dead! And now he’s back with terrifying abilities and he can’t die! Their pity for him and their fear of him vary between the villains.
The foot are on the down low in this au for the most part, so it’s rare for the fam to come across them. Especially because the brothers do in fact hold a grudge, and understandably so. It was attack on sight in blind rage for a while there. The poor boys needed a lot of time before they got out of that.
Hypno and Warren are much more affected by Leo’s state than any other villain, exactly for the reasons you described plus because they’re just more chill in general. Most of the Hamatos really hated them for a long time, and the two couldn’t even blame them. Leo doesn’t hold a grudge against them though because he straight up forgot Warren existed and Hypno was always his fav villain anyway.

Typing the Turtles (ROTTMNT) Part 3 - Leonardo
This started out as an investigation into the turtles’ insecurities, because one thing the show does so well is demonstrate that they are still teenagers. And being a teenager is a confusing experience - there’s angst, drama, exploring one’s identity, a lot of growth, and overall figuring out who you are. That’s a messy process, too! And we see this mess in our turtles: they mess up, they’re learning, they self-doubt, they have fears and insecurities, but they’re also discovering their strengths and how to overcome their inner obstacles.
So after thinking about all this way too long, here’s my psychological breakdown of each turtle (I’ll be referencing MBTI and the Enneagram a ton, but will include links for more general information on those if you don’t know what I’m talking about).
Parts One and Two found on the links for Raph and Don.
Leo: ESTP, 3w2
The Achiever, the Entrepreneur, the Charmer, the Explorer
I’ve wanted to say this for a long time: Leo is such a 3, he is such a 3 it hurts, oh my goodness. Read this: https://www.enneagraminstitute.com/type-3 and tell me that isn’t Leo to a T.
It took me a little longer to figure out the MBTI for him, but he has a lot of similarities with the ESTP. This does mean we need to step away from the ‘frat bro’ stereotype of ESTPs, though. They are a lot more keen than convention would suggest.
Really, a big thing with Leo is his need to be The Best. What that means, to him, is normally something physically-related. He needs to be the best at sports or performing certain moves, which we see in episodes like The Longest Fight where he bets he can pull off the impossible skateboard move, or Shell in a Cell where he asserts he can out-perform Ghostbear. Additionally, episodes like Air Turtle really showcase the ugly side of his competitiveness. But he also desires physical perfection. He is rather image-conscious, fretting about his body in Stuck on You, and routinely referring to himself as the team’s Faceman. The biggest example of this was his idea for a disguise in Hidden City Job: the Turtle Adonis. An adonis is considered the peak physical ideal, handsome and attractive to boot. If this drive doesn’t scream Enneagram Three I don’t know what does.
Leo at his worst: Leo’s competitive side can certainly get the best of him. We see this in episodes like Air Turtle, where his ‘win at all costs’ attitude starts to alienate him from the group. Raph has also described him as a ‘poor winner’ which refers to his tendency to gloat when he does beat out the competition, or was proven right (Bug Busters, The Gumbus, You Got Served, LAIR GAMES). He’s smug, gloating, and when he does lose tries to wiggle out of it through technicalities. The one time he says something isn’t a competition is after Mikey beats him at Skateball (You Got Served). And when he ‘loses’ the Lair Games, Donnie’s win comes with a catch that Leo built in.
Threes do this for approval and validation, though, and we see that underlying his need to be the team’s Champion in Minotaur Maze and Portal Jacked! “I’m nothing without them!” he cries to Hueso. “What good is a team with just a Faceman?” Threes have a need to distinguish themselves from others, to be admired, to have attention, so that they then feel valuable and worthwhile. Other people, then, are necessary. When Leo wants to get on the Wall of Champions in Minotaur Maze, his brothers factor in to his unmet needs. “...because what good is being a Champion if you can’t rub it in your brothers’ faces?” Leo doesn’t just need to be The Best… he needs others to acknowledge it, as well.
Average Leo: He’s got a practical eye for situations and the quickness to adapt and act as needed. The ESTP is known for being bold as well as perceptive. We see this in fight scenes such as Battle Nexus: New York when he is quick to determine that physical comedy is the key to making the sprite laugh and immediately changing his approach.
He also displays a remarkable amount of common sense when making decisions. In Origami Tsunami, as the guys discuss becoming heroes, he’s the one who shoots down ideas until they reach a more achievable goal: taking on paper thieves. And he’s got a point, can you imagine the turtles taking on a spine-breaker or mangler at that point in time? When everyone else is blinded by ideals concerning fixing the Mutant Menace, he’s the only one who asks “anybody down for staying home during the anti-mutant panic?” Of course, he still goes along with their adventure, because ESTP’s live in The Moment, so why not?
Something else that I want to mention is Leo’s appreciation for the Machiavellian. He has an incredibly intuitive grasp on it, and actively appreciates twists, turns, betrayals and deceptions. His love for magic probably stems from this (The Clothes Don’t Make the Turtle) and he is the only one enjoying the series of betrayals in Warren & Hypno Sitting in a Tree. Hidden City Job also expands on the fact that Leo doesn’t have a problem with betrayal, as he revels about brotherly betrayal happening all the time. He’s cool with being betrayed… just know that he can betray you back. It’s all fair game.
This can have upsides and downsides. On the upside, his understanding of trickery can lead to brilliant plans and solutions such as what we saw in Many Unhappy Returns, where he was able to outsmart Big Mama herself. On the downside, this kind of behavior is not always the best move - his family does not appreciate being left out of the loop of his schemes, or actively being manipulated as part of them (Leo’s plan in Many Unhappy Returns worked, but he still left his brothers alone and exhausted, and did not consider the emotional effect it would have on Splinter being sent back into the arena). At that point it’s no wonder he asks “why does no one trust me?” Because you tend to have an angle, ‘Nardo. Be careful how you use that.
He is also incredibly persuasive. This is partly why I feel he is a 3 wing 2, ‘The Charmer’ because he knows how to communicate to get what he wants. When used for the right reasons, we see him settle discord such as cooling the mobs in You Got Served or apologize when he knows an apology is needed (Todd Scouts, Air Turtle, Hidden City Job). We see it used neutrally (and a bit skeptically) in Many Unhappy Returns when he declares he’ll just go to see Big Mama and “turn up the Leo”. It can also be used deceptively, however. Todd Scouts shows this when Leo is the one who convinces Todd that they’re ready to kick things up a notch by going out alone… when really they just want to get away from him. He’ll also use words to get under people’s skins: dismissing Warren Stone in Stuck on You, but also pointing out Donnie’s beach ball fear in Mind Meld. He knows which words will get the responses he wants, for better or for worse.
Leo at his Best: Leo is the team’s motivator. He’s the one giving the others the pep-talks and encouragement they need to continue (Origami Tsunami, Finale: Rise). Donnie said it best after Leo’s redemption in Air Turtle: “your confidence is giving me confidence!”
Because that’s the healthy thing about Threes: they strive to reach their own full potential, which also inspires others to reach theirs. Leo doesn’t like to fail/lose, but he won’t let anyone else succumb, either. He has the most confidence in each Mad Dog’s ability. “I knew you guys could handle it!” he says in Many Unhappy Returns, and points out with amazing accuracy just what his brothers are capable of. He not only believes in himself, he believes in those around him. And he’s able to inspire them when they’re feeling down about their own abilities or not enthused about the task (see his speech about standing up for the paper men in Origami Tsunami).
This also includes encouragement and compliments in other areas. Regarding the Shell Hogs: “Donnie, these are amazing! And I know everything I say sounds sarcastic, but I’m being completely genuine this time” (Stuck on You). When Mikey isn’t sure Hypno will like him: “What? Of course he will, you’re adorable!” (Newsworthy). To Raph, “Does this place have smoke detectors? Because you’re on fire, Big Daddy!” (The Clothes Don’t Make the Turtle).
He’s also able to step in and take charge when Raph falls because he can see what action needs to be taken (that practical and observant, yet bold ESTP side coming in). When Raph gets separated in the sewers, Leo’s the one who doesn’t treat it casually and gets the others moving to find him (Man vs Sewer). When his older brother is hypnotized by Hypno in Stuck on You, he quickly reacts and tells Mikey and Donnie what the plan is and enacts it. We see this leader potential grow bit by bit, and his awareness of each individual’s role on the team allows him to step back from areas that he knows aren’t his forte: Raph can handle the ‘teamwork’ stuff, Donnie has got the technical know-how, and Mikey takes care of positive outlook for any situation. Leo can keep things fun and inspire confidence. His puns help lighten the mood, his jokes break the ice of tense situations, and he never stops believing in their own abilities, which keeps them all going (Donnie’s Gifts, Many Unhappy Returns).
Leo Relationships:
(While Leo has a competitive episode with each of his brothers: Shell in a Cell, Lair Games, and You Got Served, there is more going on than just that).
Raph: Both Leo and Raph have strong gut feelings that can be blindsided. Leo picks up immediately that Big Mama is not trustworthy while Raph is more than happy to believe her, but Leo is blinded by his fan-love for Jupiter Jim to realize that Marcus Montcrief is a crazy and suspicious adult, which Raph becomes aware of early on (Bug Busters, Jupiter Jim Ahoy!). They both can be a little too head-first when diving into plans, such as checking out the creepy bus in One Man’s Junk or doing their best to help April in Hypno: Part Deux. But they do trust each other to have each other’s backs, and there’s (thankfully!) no Leo vs Angst in this version of their characters. It really allows them to be comfortable with each other (and egg each other on with more than just missions: see the pizza pigeon in Mind Meld).
Donnie: In some ways Leo acts like a foil for Donnie. His own natural confidence counterbalances a lot of his twin’s insecurities. They butt heads over it, sure, with Donnie perhaps taking things too seriously and Leo seemingly not taking them seriously enough, but I like I said in Donnie’s typing: one’s chill and one’s uptight. There’s a ton of back and forth between them: they are the epitome of siblings fighting one minute and getting up to no good together the next (Example from The Mystic Library: Leo grooves out with Donnie’s rap one moment and tries to get him kicked off the team in the next scene). They may antagonize each other in Lair Games, Smart Lair, the beginning of Snow Day and Hidden City Job, and so much more, but also demonstrate brotherly love (and antics) in Operation: Normal, the end of Hidden City Job and Smart Lair, and, of course, Battle Nexus: New York. “For Donnie’s honor!”
Mikey: Leo sticks up for Mikey a fair amount, especially to Raph. He supports Mikey trying to open the portal in Mystic Mayhem, and going out on his first solo mission in Hot Soup: The Game. We actually need more Leo and Mikey episodes; of the two we have one is a competition episode (You Got Served), and The Gumbus has Leo tag along intent on proving Mikey wrong. It seems they like to hang out during the down time a lot, as they play in the arcade and skateboard off-screen in episodes such as Mrs. Cuddles, You Got Served, Mind Games, and Sparring Partner. And of course, we have the gripping image of Leo protecting Mikey’s shell with his own in Battle Nexus: New York. I’d really like to see them get up to more shenanigans, though. (hint, hint @nickelodeon, @netflix).
Ultimately, Leo is a confident, competitive turtle striving to reach his full potential. He is normally great at encouraging his brothers to do the same, and devising grand strategies, but tends to forget the emotional effects his actions can have on them, especially if he gets carried away on his quest to be The Best. He’s still learning, and these traits will likely flesh out as he grows into a more leader-like role.

Once Rise sucks me back in on the seventh, I plan on drawing that Hippoworm wedding pic (sorry about the wait btw), so if you wanted to elaborate on that (either the mutant or Repo’s Seven AU version of their wedding) I would like to see if I could work any headcanons in, or at least have them in mind while I’m drawing?
Awww, thank you! ^v^ And no worries! I totally get kinda losing interest in a project for a bit cause of various things, and your art is totally worth the wait! ^v^
Heh, I’m not sure how many of these you can fit into a drawing, and it’s totally fine if you can’t fit them in, I know I’m gonna love your drawing no matter what! ^v^
But I’m gonna list out as much as I can just cause I love gushing about/thinking about fictional weddings (if only because a. I love my OTPs and I wanna see them happy and b. there’s a good chance I’ll never get married, and if I do it’ll most likely be a quick courthouse thing, so this is my outlet. Apologies in advance if this gets kinda long, lol). Anyway:
Mutant:
For obvious reasons, they couldn’t go all out, but they did as much as they could, having a small ceremony in Central Park at night with the reception being at an empty warehouse down at the docks (since their apartment would be WAYYYY too small, even if there’s less than a dozen people attending their wedding.)
The ELoM attend (mostly for the free food, but also because hey, it’s a sweet occasion and despite their villainy, they aren’t heartless.)
Meatsweats even offers to bring the cake, and Warren and Hypno agree since it’s the one dish he can’t put mutant meat in. Todd officiates so who knows if it’s completely legal but whatever, it’s a real wedding to them at least and that’s all that matters. They also make sure to record their wedding so they can watch it over and over
Warren was a bit of a groomzilla, because he loves Hypno so much and just wants everything to be right and perfect. He never takes it out on Hypno, thankfully, but everyone else kinda has to keep their distance until he’s able to chill tf out
Hypno makes all the flowers for the ceremony himself through his magic. LOTS of roses - mainly pink, purple and yellow with red at the tips (which, of course, symbolize friendship turning into love)
They walk down the aisle together, Warren on Hypno’s shoulder and the two of them holding hands (er, finger).
Hypno’s vows are so dang sappy and romantic that it takes Warren a few minutes to calm himself down enough to say his own vows. Warren also includes a bit of Maori in his vows as a nod to his husband’s culture. It’s a bit broken, but the message can still be understood and Hypno is still touched by the gesture
At the reception and after the first dance, Warren sings a love song to Hypno, wanting to give Hypno a little something extra since their dancing is really just Hypno swaying back and forth with Warren in his hands, and Hypno absolutely loves it, practically falling in love with him all over again on the spot.
Not that it matters really cause of the mutant situation, but Hypno takes Warren’s last name, hyphenating his own and becoming Mezmer-Ron “Hypnopotamus” Patel-Stone.
...idk if they’d actually do this but the idea is kinda funny to me so I’m mentioning it here: A couple weeks later, they stage another wedding and invite the Turtles to it, turning it into an elaborate trap.
“I can’t believe it. You would pretend to get married and fake a whole wedding just to try and capture us?!”
“Oh no no, the marriage is legitimate. We had our actually wedding at the start of the month.” “Technically this is our honeymoon.” *the two share a kiss* “We just thought that since we had all this leftover wedding stuff, well, two birds with one stone and all that.” “Just consider it a wedding present to us, since getting you four out of the way for good really would make my happiest day even happier!”
Of course the Turtles escape and Warren and Hypno are defeated, but they quickly shrug it off. It was worth a shot, and at least they still have each other.
Repo’s Seven AU:
While they may be human, they still can’t afford a HUGE ceremony, but it’s still a lovely one. They’re able to rent out a nice dining hall, at least.
Warren’s parents and work friends come, and while Ron’s able to invite friends as well, his mother and a couple of his relatives are unable to attend since they’re all the way in New Zealand. It’s a bit of an emotional hurtle that Ron has to get over, but at the very least his mother is able to send her love and they’re able to send her video and photos in return
I could see Ron wearing a sharp looking black suit with a purple tie while Warren wears a very handsome baby-blue suit with a white tie
Maori songs and vows are incorporated into the ceremony
Again, Warren takes a moment to sing a love song to Ron during the reception, because I love that idea too much for it to only exist in one universe
The two pretty much spent all they could on their wedding and couldn’t afford a honeymoon at all, but they didn’t mind. After the reception, they just went back to their apartment and spent the rest of the night together. Talking, cuddling, kissing, a bit more singing on Warren’s part since he got a bit tipsy lol, lots of expressions of love since it is their wedding night after all, and eventually falling asleep in each other’s arms.
Both were admittedly disappointed that they couldn’t take a trip, but after such a perfect wedding night, they couldn’t really be disappointed anymore and just enjoyed their long weekend.
After the events of Repo’s Seven/they’ve become secret millionaires and after they’ve moved out to California and settled down some (Warren getting a new newscaster job, Ron getting a couple nice breaks as he continued working towards his dream career as a professional stage magician, getting a house, etc.) the two decide to have another wedding ceremony and are able to renew their vows in Ron’s New Zealand hometown.
Granted, even with all the money they have now, they don’t go insane with it or anything, but they are still able to treat themselves and have elements of their dream wedding
This includes doves being released when they have their kiss (Hypno’s idea), lots of gold incorporated into the decor (Warren’s idea), and an actual band for the reception (both of their ideas). Stuff like that, where it’s a bit of a splurge but it’s not like they’re burning money on stupid or unnecessary stuff
So yeah, these are just my ideas, and I’d honestly love to hear a fellow Hippoworm fan’s ideas, since I’m sure yours differ at least a little from mine, and like I said, I just love talking about fictional weddings ^v^

What do u think bane will do in season 2. Especially now scarecrow’s dead
There’s really a lot of wish fulfillment I can ramble since Bane is already well loved in the Harley Quinn show, and I could see a slight increase of screen time for him in Season 2, should they show him surviving. It would been a god send if he even steadily becomes apart of the main cast of the show. Unfortunately, like my faith in this show, it’s high doubt it would even come close to these weak predictions.
Spoilers & other strong topics that may trigger negative stigma are mentioned below. Please read with precaution!
As recent as now multiple sources has indicated, Harley Quinn series has been renew for a season 2, with the release date set by April 3 2020. That’s pretty fast release, even by mini-series standard considering the typical work load an animation show has to accomplish. But the news connecting to the series has pretty much affirms my perspective (possibly confirms) what may come for season 2. I’ll be listing only a handful of the most canonical case scenario that I think will show for future episodes:
Bane will barely acknowledge or even care to mentioned Scarecrow. Shrugs and move on.
The writers will set up a humorous unneeded joke, by making Bane mummer, “I wonder what’s Scarecrow is up to?”.
Bane may get taken a little more seriously with the writers, but not enough to implement the aftermath of Gotham’s earthquake, or his grieving.
Bane will grieve or undergo a forlorn stage for the deceased Scarecrow, but it’s treated more like a running gag than a small arc.
Bane grieving is treated seriously and may end up connecting him to the larger arc in the season, and possibly the series together.
A good handful of my predicted thoughts are so bleak, and yet this is how I feel what the show will give me. It isn’t like ROTTMNT where the show staffs have no qualms in humanizing the villains quirks and even explicitly affirms that their love and affection for their significant others don’t hinder their fighting skills and motivation (e.g. Hypno’s love for his roomie, Warren Stone, and Repo Mantis’ dedication in caring for his mutated cat). And it sadly doesn’t have the same vocal fandom to backup the friendship relation, as it did with TFP when Breakdown died on the beginning of season 2. At least those writers wrote the bare minimum of Knockout’s sentimentalism towards his deceased partner, despite their own questionable interpretation.
I can’t really say much positive faith in this show, as it’s hit and miss quality is “okay” at best. The writer’s seldom accountability of the show’s unfortunate implications, including the antisemitism and queerbaiting, does help much.
We never really got a concrete reason as to why Scarecrow would even team-up with the Joker. With Queen Fable, as least she was pretty much an open book (no pun intended), as the writer did a good job in showing her hostility and amoral nature. Joker’s plan benefits her indulgence in furthering her “evilness” to the next level to no regards to either side of the organizations (Justice League, Legion of Doom, etc). Scarecrow, on the other hand, is a different story. Sure, he gets to see Gotham in terror 24/7 in the most brutal regime to been seen in-universe. That’s fair trade for someone like Scarecrow who’s not only gets to have front seat of witnessing fear, but also record observation that will further his study of it...and yet we don’t really see that much of scientific Crane? Sure, we do see him creating chemicals and administering components that exemplifies his skills, but not so much on the motive side? We just pretty much have to assumed that based on his overall character’s existence in the franchise. This really further drives my frustration more as the closes answer I may get out of this by canon standard is...probably the one have to begrudgingly accept.
In the Final Joke, the very last appearance of Scarecrow, we get a brief interaction of the Joker and Scarecrow (and quiet Batman). Joker longing in boredom, as Scarecrow is not even phase by the now destructive terror in Gotham called a “routine”. As Scarecrow brings up a suggestion to brighten the Joker up, I recalled Joker nonchalantly retorted:
“Hah! You are so one note, Bag-Head.“
This got me jolt up a little. Not really enough to speculate for future episodes to come, but only for what I needed from that scene. It could have been hinted, or reinforce the degree of insecurity Scarecrow has; just as he established himself a level of threat to the city and possibly further afar, Joker still dismiss him as nothing more than a villain of the week. Something he and Bane has in common run through in the series among their peers. The tragic key difference between the two is Scarecrow is more impulsive, mayhaps desperate, to disprove that. Whereas Bane, be it for a reserve sense of confidence or too focal on petty vengeance, never occur to even try disproving those claims in the first place. Given the show’s theme, this would have not been a far-fetch idea. It makes it clear that Joker's presence, even by villain’s professionalism standard, are destructive in the long-run, no matter how effectively infamous he works for the Legion of Doom. And that would have made his death all the more meaningful, and befitting for a minor character like Scarecrow...
...but then again, I could just be giving them too much credit. The writer most concrete direction in the scene was basically puppeteer Joker as their own words, stating what Scarecrow is to them: a one note character. Unlike the other characters we’re given the impression on the forum, they don’t seem to be interested in keeping Scarecrow around, let alone develop him. If the season finale has (graphically) shown, he pretty much accomplish his only agency in a story; a as a living tool.
Maybe I’m taking this a little too hard as I do favor Scarecrow as an overall Batman favorite. It’s just tiring that so many mainstream animated adult-oriented show will only aim to South Park level at most. I’m not asking it to be on Bojack Horseman or Batman: The Animated Series, but it be refreshing for them to at least self-critique their writing execution in terms of characters; minor or not.

Typing the Turtles (ROTTMNT) Part 2 - Donatello
This started out as an investigation into the turtles’ insecurities, because one thing the show does so well is demonstrate that they are still teenagers. And being a teenager is a confusing experience - there’s angst, drama, exploring one’s identity, a lot of growth, and overall figuring out who you are. That’s a messy process, too! And we see this mess in our turtles: they mess up, they’re learning, they self-doubt, they have fears and insecurities, but they’re also discovering their strengths and how to overcome their inner obstacles.
So after thinking about all this way too long, here’s my psychological breakdown of each turtle (I’ll be referencing MBTI and the Enneagram, but will include links for more general information on those if you don’t know what I’m talking about).
Donnie: INTJ, 5w6
The Architect, the Investigator, the Problem-Solver, the Observer
Firstly, getting into this analysis means that we have to step away from the stereotype that all INTJs are cold, aloof, and unemotional. INTJs, especially Turbulent ones, do express emotion, and we’ve all seen Donnie’s dramatic ‘theatre kid’ side. I’m not going to ignore that. He manages to be both thanks to the INTJ’s tertiary function Introverted Feeling (Fi). Extroverted Feeling (Fe) really allows one to connect and empathize with others’ emotions. Fi, however, is a more internal experience of feelings, and has trouble connecting with others without having been in their shoes. I happen to think Donnie is in a strong Ni-Fi loop, as well, which would make sense because fighting bad guys every day while trying to save the world after discovering a Mystic City which upbends everything you ever knew is pretty stressful. https://www.psychologyjunkie.com/2017/06/21/intjs-loop-understanding-ni-fi-loop/
And it’s super interesting that he often expresses his emotions by literally saying them. “Evil laugh! Relishing chuckle! Gasp!” (Mind Meld) and, one of my favorites, he literally says “Sad face emoji” in Many Unhappy Returns.
So while we DO see Donnie experience and display his own emotions, we also DON’T see him all that affected by other people’s emotions. He’s still pretty stoic in Mystic Mayhem after the delivery guy gets mutated, cracking a joke about imitation crab. He’s unaffected by Todd’s puppies in Repo Mantis, and the only one immune to Warren Stone’s sob story in Warren & Hypno Sitting in a Tree. Pizza Pit shows it best when he’s unaffected when Mikey’s favorite pizza place collapses until the same thing happens to him. Fi at work vs Fe.
As for Donnie being a 5w6, keep this core motivation in mind: “[Fives] Want to possess knowledge, to understand the environment, to have everything figured out as a way of defending the self from threats from the environment.” https://www.enneagraminstitute.com/type-5
Donnie at his Worst: Donnie vs. Witch Town gave us this gem of a line: “Because I’m the science guy! If mystic powers can do everything I can do, but better, then why would you guys even need me?” And while people have pointed out his need to be needed, I argue it’s a little more accurate to say he has a need to belong. His role in the group is the Brainiac, the Science Guy, the Smart One, and so his very identity is tied into fulfilling that role. A 5’s core fear is of being useless, helpless, or incapable. Mystic powers rendering his tech redundant, and thereby him useless, would be a pretty big threat to the security of his role in the group (that 6 wing kicking in). And remember a 5’s core motivation: to understand the environment as a defense. And he still doesn’t understand mystic energy. It’s pretty infuriating, so he’s pretty insufferable about it.
[Note: seeing mystic power as a threat probably didn’t kick in until their fight with Shredder in Many Unhappy Returns. Prior to that, his brothers were still learning how to use their magic weapons, but Donnie already understood his tech well enough to use it effectively (see their first fight against Baron Draxum in the pilot). But against the Shredder… all his tech was useless. Only the hanky, the hanky, was even marginally effective. His brothers’ weapons were now way more capable than anything he had to offer… core 5 fear. And to cope? Learn all you can about your fear/threat. Except he still hasn’t figured it out; we see even in Air Turtle that he calls Draxum for the mystic expertise instead of formulating his own hypothesis].
We’ve seen this insecurity about his place in the group before. In Mind Meld, as his brothers become more like him, his role is challenged. “Hey, you’re trying to get rid of me, that’s what I do to you!” “But, I thought purple was my... my thing.” When he first meets the Purple Dragon he immediately wants to join them because he sees them as tech peers. In Man vs Sewer even though he professes that it’s his day off, he doesn’t react well whenever Leo does ‘his thing’: analyzing the situation and drawing a conclusion. His self-worth seems to be tied to what he has to offer the group, and we hear that even in his song in The Mystic Library about proving himself.
Besides his insecurity, Donnie is practically allergic to blame. (Interestingly enough, he’s more okay with being wrong and others being right sometimes… sure he’ll deflect, but it doesn’t seem to get under his skin the way being at fault does). He will repeatedly deny fault and shift the blame to someone else when something goes wrong. He denies creating AlBearto in Al Be Back, says the incident with the Purple Dragons in The Purple Jacket is entirely April’s fault (she is not amused) and puts the blame for ditching Todd off on his brothers in Todd Scouts. The one time we see him own up his mistakes is in Mind Meld when no one (except Shelldon) is around to see it. “Yup. I beefed up.” This is definitely an area he needs to work on.
Average Donnie: Donnie cares for his brothers, but that doesn’t always get across in the best of ways. Take the episode Donnie’s Gifts, for example. Donnie never actually got a chance to explain how the gifts work, but we can see protective elements in each of them. Raph: please use your head and don’t just blindly rush in! Mikey: ohmygosh that is so dangerous, please be careful and don’t get hurt! Leo: stop poking the bear, Leo, it only makes him angrier! It makes sense that a 5 who has external fears of the world and has their own protective equipment (the Battle Shells) would extend that to his brothers. And Donnie was able to recognize that even though his brothers got the wrong message, he could move past that and call for a group hug. In the Purple Game he is super anxious to make sure his brothers are okay and not mostly hurt. Insane in the Mama Train also reveals the invention of the Panic Button… and who designed that?
Donnie also seeks a lot of validation. He takes pride in his work, and when his work is appreciated he gives that appreciation back tenfold [such as when he shows off the Turtle Tank to his brothers (Fast and Furriest), or when Splinter says he’s proud of him (Turtle-dega Nights: the Ballad of Rat Man)]. The flip side is that when he’s not getting the validation he needs from others he’ll create it himself, which comes off as arrogant and egocentric. See Smart Lair, when Sheldon 1.0 plays messages of Donnie’s self-worth all night, and is programmed to favor him. Or when he takes full credit for defeating a bad guy: the silverfish in Donnie’s Gifts, and scaring Draxum away with his disco ball in Shadow of Evil. When he gets the recognition for all his hard work from the right people, though, it inspires him to do great things. There is danger in getting validation from the wrong people, however, as we saw in Big Mama’s case in Bug Busters.
Donnie at his Best: Donnie’s at his best (and most relaxed) whenever he’s learning or building something. He gets super excited and happy attending April’s school (The Purple Jacket) or going to the library (The Mystic Library) and wants to attend college someday (The Mutant Menace). The INTJ/5 seeks to absorb information and he’s constantly energized by it.
He’s also energized when he can put that information to use, such as when building something. Did Albearto need a total tear-down in War and Pizza? No. But Donnie had fun making him ‘dazzle!’ How did Donnie cope being in the woods in Todd Scouts? By building an impressive tree fort. Donnie’s projects actually relax him, because he’s exercising his strength and capabilities.
This also works for his method of attacks and plans: Know Thine Enemy. He studies Warren Stone in Newsworthy when they meet him and is the only one who remembers he regenerates by Warren & Hypno Sitting in a Tree. Donnie and Mikey are able to successfully scam Repo Mantis in One Man’s Junk because they know how he thinks. Donnie thwarts everything the Purple Dragons do and can bring Shelldon home because he knows how they operate (The Purple Game, Breaking Purple). He can restore his brothers to their rightful minds in Mind Meld because he knows himself.
Also: music. The fact that one of his Battle Shells has a music mode (Mascot Melee), that he remembers things in song form (The Mystic Library, Donnie vs Witch Town), and that he likes to dance (Stuck on You) is so pure and adorable.
Donnie Relationships:
(while Donnie does see his brothers as dum-dums at times, he admits they’re fun and pretty great to have in Mind Meld)
Raph: We really need a Donnie and Raph episode, but even without one there’s some moments we can look at. I already discussed in Raph’s analysis their general similarities. Donnie doesn’t think Raph always has the brightest ideas, but still has soft moments with him such as giving him $20 at the end of Mind Meld, designing the ‘captain’s chair’ of the Turtle Tank to Raph’s lumbar settings, and appreciating Raph’s pirate accent in Snow Day. They are both protective of their brothers, Raph with his fists and Donnie with his tech. It’s interesting that (I believe) they’re the reverse of each other on the Enneagram: Raph is a 6w5, and Donnie a 5w6. So they both understand the risks involved in what they do (mostly: Donnie still ate poison and Raph still goes on ‘smashcapades’). I really want to see a team-up between them.
Leo: I’m all for the Disaster Twins trope, but to me an episode that epitomizes that isn’t one like Lair Games, where they’re at each other’s throats, but Operation Normal. They’ve apparently done the grandma-getup before. They wind up playing as good cop, bad cop in Fast and Furriest. Sure, one’s high-strung, and one’s laid-back, which can get on each others’ nerves, but there’s also a lot of making up. Brotherly betrayal passes back and forth between them, but never crosses a line. And the numerous times they unconsciously mirror each other can be found with a simple search of the Disaster Twins tag. I’m interested to see more episodes where they work together, even in the background, just because they can get up to wild shenanigans.
Mikey: Mikey’s probably the turtle Donnie most gets along with. They’ve had several episode team-ups: Repo Mantis, One Man’s Junk, Turtle-dega Nights: the Ballad of Rat Man, Breaking Purple, etc. Donnie may be the team academic, but Mikey has strong emotional intelligence. They get along pretty easily, making plans together (One Man’s Junk) and protecting each other (we see Donnie protect Mikey in Repo Mantis and Bug Busters, but we see Mikey protect Donnie by pulling him out of the way in Smart Lair). Donnie helps Mikey focus on the goal at hand, and Mikey helps Donnie communicate better with others. They’re a good team with a pretty solid foundation.
Ultimately, Donnie’s an inventive turtle who wants his brothers to be safe but is still wrestling with a lot of insecurities and unhealthy stress levels. I’m excited to see how he grows into real confidence and utilizes his strengths as an integral member of the team.

Typing the Turtles (ROTTMNT) Part 1 - Raphael
Raph: ISFJ, 6w5
The Defender, The Loyalist, The Big Brother, did I mention The Defender?
Raph is always helping out the little guy, whether that little guy is Mikey, Donnie, Leo, April or someone else. In the first episode, Mystic Mayhem, Raph is the one who notices poor Mayhem alone and scared, and suggests they should help him. He just met the little furball, and even after Mayhem attacks his face he’s still ready to fight some dog-jogger Yokai to protect him. He’s there when April’s school is attacked by Hypno (Hypno! Part Deux) and when she just needs her fan fixed (Repairin’ the Baron). He’s also there for a myriad of underdogs, such as Guy Flambe (Pizza Puffs). Interestingly enough, that episode also indicates that Raph has taken to moonlighting as the hero Red Angel of Preventing Harm.
Raph at his Worst: What is Raph afraid of? Beyond Mrs. Cuddles. Raph is afraid of being alone. But he also feels strongly empathetic when others are alone: Mikey on a solo mission in Hot Soup: The Game, Mayhem in the pilot, Frankenfoot when he runs away. But why?
If we look through the lens of the Enneagram, Raph wants security and support. The system/structure he is most committed to is their inner circle of family/friends. So nothing must happen to those he loves!
Raph has also demonstrated Worst-Case Scenario thinking when he’s stressed. Alone for 5 minutes in Man vs Sewer? Expect the worst. In Nothing but Truffles, Mikey even flashes back to a Raph lecture about what to do in the event of a: shark attack, vampire attack, werewolf attack, and puppy attack.
That said, when someone does hurt someone he loves, or sufficiently threatens/scares him and/or his support system, all his disaster-planning goes out the window in an effort to SMASH IT LIKE A BOSS! (Counterphobic 6).
He puts a lot of pressure on himself, but it’s not really about failing in big moments (as Leo describes it in Mystic Mayhem and Down with the Sickness, but that says more about Leo than Raph), but more about letting the others down. He needs to open the gateway to the Mystic City or else they’ll lose April forever. He needs to think of something to ask for in the Must Say Yes stage that will please all his brothers and not leave anyone out. And, in Insane in the Mama Train, Raph is the one most affected when Splinter says he’s disappointed. The others were willing to brush it off and apologize, but Raph is aware that they let Splinter down. It’s something worse, and he feels that hurt, deeply.
Raph is also sensitive enough that he sometimes takes things too personally. When Mikey and Donnie have a good idea in One Man’s Junk, he internalizes it as ‘Raph never has a good idea’. Mikey sorts that out the best: “We’re not saying you don’t have good ideas, Raph. We’re just saying we do, too.” It seems to snap him out of self-deprecating funk.
Average Raph: Raph wants to protect those he loves from physical threats, but also emotional ones. That’s why he’s so bad at handling interpersonal conflict. He can’t yell at Donnie in Donnie’s Gifts. He can’t yell at (Mike? Lou? Tony?) in the Pizza Pit because “it’ll destroy him”. He’s super conflict-averse when it comes to those he cares about. He doesn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings (ISFJ). Mostly this is a kind, caring, compassionate trait, but sometimes the situation needs Dr. Delicate Touch.
He’s the supportive friend and brother. He’s always ready to help out, whether it’s fixing April’s fan (Repairin’ the Baron), rescuing Guy Flambe from Meatsweats (Pizza Puffs) or saving Mayhem from the mirror. He’s encouraging… but sometimes to the point of enabling. In Pizza Puffs he recognizes this the most and literally wrestles with himself over trying to let his brothers fix problems on their own without him there to protect them. Sometimes he can’t help but support his friends even when he doesn’t want to: when he’s volun-told by Mikey to help warm Draxum up to humans, he doesn’t ditch, and when April invokes the Birthday Card to help Warren Stone he honors it. He can be dedicated and loyal to a fault.
He can be a little short-sighted, at times. His team-building exercise in Stuck On You was meant to be a positive, brotherly, bonding experience, but suffered from serious drawbacks. His tenacity in smashing foes is admirable, but doesn’t always get the best results, something Donnie tries to get him to see and think through. But they’re also what makes him a force to be reckoned with. You do NOT mess with Raph’s inner circle and expect NOT to get smashed, hoss! And the fact that his brothers know that he has their backs like this is probably its own form of support and security.
Raph at his Best: He believes in the Mad Dogs the most, that they can be and are heroes. “We’re do-gooders! And what do do-gooders do? They do good! And they do good well.” (The Mutant Menace) His compassion and commitment to protecting the underdog keep the others on track and in line with their goals. He is the rock in the middle of the chaos.
Raph actually has good practical skills: he has the mission calendar that only he seems to consistently stick to, and clearly enough self-discipline to responsibly and reliably sleep with his retainer on every night (Flushed, But Not Forgotten)
He also has the most grounded sense of duty. When they’re watching the skateboarding livestream in Gilbert’s Department store in The Longest Fight, Raph is the one who first investigates what sounds like a robbery, and is the one who cajoles his brothers into fighting the Foot. It’s a ‘look, guys, we have to do the right thing here and prevent them from stealing!’ moment. Pizza Puffs: look, guys, you’re going to have to learn to solve problems without me, it’s for your own good! (He knows that’s what needs to happen, even though he’s at war inside over it).
Raph says: what’s the responsible thing to do? And he’s trying to get his brothers to understand this as well (Pizza Puffs).
Raph Relationships:
Donnie: despite the lack of a full Donnie & Raph episode, they have a few surprising things in common. They each have an episode where they want their brothers to learn something. Donnie, in Mind Meld, wants his brothers to be smarter and plan ahead. Raph, in Pizza Puffs, wants his brothers to use some common sense and be a little more responsible. They both like finding solutions to problems, just one focuses on technical and one focuses on interpersonal problems. Mostly (for right now, though) Raph can be blunt with Donnie. He’ll slap the genius in the face with reality. “Donnie! The mech is REAL!” (The Purple Game). “Donnie, I know you know how to say it. We’re all on to you.” (Air Turtle). This is one turtle with whom he can put his foot down and say ‘hey! Back to Earth, now!’ (I can also see them collectively sharing facepalm moments in the future).
Leo: there are times when Leo’s need to be the best and stand-out attitude clash with Raph’s focus on teamwork (Air Turtle, for example “take your win-at-all-costs attitude somewhere else, Leo, we need to work as a team!”) but they do get to a point where both of their strengths in the group strengthen each other, like how iron sharpens iron. Raph wants everyone to work together as a team, but Leo sees their individual strengths. Without that, we get Raph’s glueball disaster in Stuck On You, but together, we have their greatest moment in Many Unhappy Returns. Leo points out the parts each member have to play, and Raph puts it all together in one big plan to defeat the Shredder. “Trust me, bro.” “I do.” (I’m really excited to see where the show goes with this).
Mikey: the main Mikey & Raph episode right now actually seems to be Repairin’ the Baron, and there’s an interesting clash going on here. Raph believes and supports his system, his family. Draxum has been the mortal enemy of the Mad Dogs and deserves to be smashed. However, Mikey is adopting him into the family. Raph is not immediately okay with this, he has a hard time trying to change his inner world. But he cares about Mikey. As he tells Draxum “I’m still trying to get used to this, but Mikey thinks you’re part of the family. And the number rule of the Mad Dogs is: you always take care of family!” They’re actually very complementary, as Mikey can step in in emotionally charged situations where Raph can’t, and how his adaptability gets through Raph’s need for stability. (It will be interesting to see what Raph does as Mikey grows up).
Ultimately, I’m excited to see Raph grow as he figures out the best way to guide this team and save the world. Home is where the heart is, and he’s got a big enough heart to be the home for a lot of people.
So that’s my (unbelievably cut-down) analysis of Rottmnt Raph! I’m going to save the relationships with April and Splinter for later, since this is already too long. Here are the links to learn more about the ISFJ and counterphobic 6w5 if you’re interested:

For Michika, how about 6, 29, 57 and 88. Hueso Jr, I pick 2, 11, 78, and 66. And Sophia, let's go with 4, 22, 60, and 96?
Ahhhhh thank you so much!! ^v^
Michika:
6: What do they look like?
Teal skin that’s super smooth, webbed fingers and toes, a very cute beak (or at least that’s how she describes it, though I have to agree), beautiful brown eyes, and stringy black hair that she keeps in pigtails most of the time. As a kappa, she also has a bowl in her head that she has to keep filled or she’ll get weak/die, and she’s a couple inches shorter than Mikey
29: Do they wants kids? If they already have kids, do they want more?
Nah. Even after the idea of family becomes a bit more appealing and she’s willing to be a part of Mikey and Junior’s families, the concept of parents and parenthood is just a whole other set of baggage for her that she doesn’t care to talk about.
Still, she likes kids, and when Mikey decides he wants to foster a kid for a few months or join whatever the Hidden City version of Big Brothers Big Sisters is, she’s more than happy to help him look after them and play the role of ‘cool aunt’ or their friend or something along those lines. She just isn’t interested in being an actual mother.
57: What makes them standout among others?
Hmm... I’d say both her pranks/sense of humor and her moments of genuine kindness and loyalty really stand out. Her pranks show how clever she can be (as well as how admittedly bratty she can be, lol) while her genuine moments show that she’s not JUST a prankster but someone who does have a heart, she’s just very particular about who she chooses (who she TRUSTS) to show that heart to.
88: Do they liked to be tickled?
ABSOLUTELY NOT! Not only is it annoying, but it’s also suuuuuper frustrating and kinda dangerous for a kappa. One sudden surprise tickle-attack could make her lean back or lean forward in laughter - doesn’t really matter which one, either reaction would result in her accidentally dumping out her water. Even if the person who tickled her filled her back up, she’d still probably be angry at them for at least the rest of the day.
Hueso Jr.:
2: Do they have a fear of an animal? If so, what animal?
Hmm... Due to seeing how ruthless their yokai counterparts (i.e. the Masters of Barbarianism) can be, I could see Junior being nervous around dragons and snakes. I could also see him getting nervous around big dogs, if only cause they could literally just tackle him and run off with his arm or leg. Small dogs are weaker so they’re not as bad, even if he still doesn’t like their barking.
11: Do they believe in luck?
He understand that, in a city full of mysticism and magic, yeah the concept of luck probably exists. But in terms of personal lucky charms or good luck routines or whatever, he doesn’t really believe in them or care about them.
66: Do they like glowsticks?
Probably, though he prefers actual candles.
78: If they had a nightmare, who would they run to?
His father, Senor Hueso, of course! Though, if his Uncle Piel was there and Hueso wasn’t, Junior would be alright talking to him. Same with Mikey and Michi, since he knows they would great with comforting him or listening to him talk about it. But his papa is still always at the top of the list.
Sophia:
4: Do they like cuddling?
Yyyyyyyep! ^v^ Always cuddling her daddy and papa when they’re watching tv together, heh.
22: Are they a supernatural being?
She’s a five year old jorogumo yokai so, yeah, pretty supernatural.
60: What would be their dream vehicle?
Well, as a little kid, she wishes she could have one of those brooms that the witches down in Witchtown fly around on, but Warren and Hypno insist that she is WAY too young for them. As she gets older - especially as a teen - she still wouldn’t mind having a broom, but she also starts thinking more about actual cars, and wouldn’t mind a nice car in dark blue or gold.
(I literally know nothing about cars so don’t ask me about a certain type/brand/etc., lol)
96: Who do they like to make jokes with?
She probably jokes around with her friends a lot, I’d imagine. Also, Hypno definitely seems like the type to use Dad Jokes, which Sophia finds funny for the first few years, at least.
Thank you again for sending me so many numbers! ^v^

Hippoworm Holiday drabble: Novelty Carols
((Some pre-dating/still in the just-besties-it's-complicated phase Hippoworm. This idea popped into my head at work yesterday and I just HAD to write it out, lol. Enjoy! ^v^ Also you can read my other RotTMNT holiday drabbles here))
“Come on, come on!” Warren gritted his teeth, shoving his tiny hands right up to the car’s heater and wincing at the cold air that was still blowing out. They really needed a new car…
At the very least, Hypno’s old van was reliable enough to get them to gigs - one of those gigs as of late being Run of the Mill Pizza. They maybe weren’t as popular as that exploding goop guy, but yokai families seemed to like a famous hippo-magician and his worm man-magical assistant well enough - enough to help them pay their rent, at least.
Usually they would have stayed and had dessert after their performance, but that night four certain annoying teenage-turtles were at the pizzeria as well, and Warren knew he wouldn’t be able to enjoy his cannoli while listening to their antics. So Hypno volunteered to get them dessert to go while Warren started the car.
Speaking of which, he could finally start to feel heat coming out of the old air vents. Warren sighed, letting the hot air wash over his nearly frozen body. Worms didn’t have much body heat insulation as it turned out (just another ‘wonderful’ thing about being stuck as a worm…), but at the very least Warren had managed to sew together a decent mini sweater for himself.
Relaxing now, Warren started to hum to himself, not even realizing he was doing it at first. Not many people of New York might have known this, but along with being the best and undoubtedly most handsome news anchor, Warren Stone was also a pretty talented singer. Thinking back on his old life, he could remember many Christmas office parties where he had graced his co-workers with his talents by singing carols.
Maybe it wasn’t something he did all the time, but singing was certainly a fun past time. ...However, participating in singing Christmas carols and humming them just because they were stuck in your head were two VERY different things. “Ugh…” He might have tried turning on the radio to find something to drown the holly jolly tunes out, if not for noticing the now-open portal and his hippo roomie/bestie (and secret crush) walking out of it. His gaze softened as Hypno got into the car.
Hypno shivered. “Dreadfully cold out there! Oh, I got you a coffee,” he said, slipping the cup into the cup holder, “Double expresso with a hit of chocolate and cream.”
Warren’s smile grew, touching the warm cup. A lot of people might have had a bad habit of forgetting about him, but when it came to all things Warren Stone, his hippo roomie had the memory of an elephant. “Thanks, Ron.” Using the straw Hypno had also provided for him, he took a long sip before grabbing his cannoli from the bag.
As the two of them quietly enjoyed their dessert, the warmth of the car and (of course) each other's pleasant company, Warren started humming again. Hypno didn’t mind humming but… the song Warren had chosen did make him pause. “Warren?”
“Hm?” Warren said, mid-chew.
“What’s that you’re humming?”
“Mm-” He swallowed. “Oh, some Christmas song I can’t get out of my head.”
“I figured as such but which song is it?”
“Ugh, one of the novelty ones that they always seem to play,” Warren answered, waving his hand a bit, “I don't know, something like ‘Want a Hippopotamus for Chris-’”
He stopped, and closed his eyes as his face turned a shade pinker. He did manage to keep from facepalming, though for once part of him actually wished for something to randomly fly out of nowhere and cut him in half.
Hypno gave him a bit of a cheeky smile to try and cut through the awkwardness. “You know if we’re being completely honest, I’m actually quite flattered!”
“Ughhh…” Warren sunk deeper into his sweater as he groaned. Hypno chuckled as he leaned over, patting his partner's back and nuzzling his poofy hair a bit.

A ship I have with said character: HIPPOWORM FOR LIIIIIIIFE! ...also I kinda ship him with Stinkbomb, mostly for aesthetic reasons and because it just seems kinda cute to me, but Hippoworm’s still my #1
A BROTP I have with said character: Hypno, Stinkbomb and Wil (my best friend’s OC).
...also because of this fanfic idea I just had, I may or may not see a small friendship between him and Meatsweats being possible. Like, it wouldn’t be a super deep friendship or anything but, as I’ve said, they’re the only two villains we’ve seen actually express negative emotions towards their mutations instead of being totally happy or completely indifferent with them. That could lead to a connection, at the very least.
You could also sorta pair Warren up with Splinter or Bullhop and pretty much get the same results: a friendship based on understanding and empathy instead of what they have in common or whether or not they actually like each other. (I actually wrote a fic with Warren and Bullhop a while ago if anyone’s interested)
A NOTP I have with said character: Anyone who’s not Ron or Harold, pretty much (I’m sorry, lol)
A random headcanon: He’s a really good singer, and often takes long showers just as an excuse to sing to himself
General Opinion over said character: He’s trash, but he’s my trash. I think he’s hilarious, and like most of the villains on Rise, he’s a pretty terrible person (selling out the Turtles after they agreed to help him was a pretty dick move for example) but still super likable. John Micheal Higgins’ voice work helps with this a lot, as does his design.
He’s also a surprisingly compelling character, between his determination to try and make a name for himself as a villain just to get some spotlight back, his desire for power to help compensate for the fact that he’s now a literal worm, and just how attached he is to his former life as a human - moreso than any other villain, even Meatsweats, and almost as much as Splinter.
I guess my only complaint is that he doesn’t get used very often, and I wish he got more screentime :/ Once again, I find myself loving a character that has a TON of potential when it comes to their motivations and introspection/character development stories, buuuut isn’t used often and when they are it’s for comedy purposes (which is fine, like I said part of the reason why I love Warren is because he makes me laugh, but still).
You’d think I would have learned my lesson after becoming attached to another similar character (Emperor Awesome from Wander Over Yonder) that ultimately got short changed in the character development and exploration department, to the point where I ended up writing an eight part fanfic series just to try and tap some of that potential after canon disappointed me. ...Ah well, ‘tis the life of liking a side character/villain in a comedy cartoon, I suppose.

Headcanons and thoughts about Warren and Hypno/Hippoworm (is that the ship name? *shrugs*)
I had a LOT of shipping thoughts about these two while at work today, so I hope you guys like hearing about them:
Because of getting his mezmeroo attack redirected back at him, Hypno doesn’t remember his and Warren’s first meeting. Though if someone told him about it - and about Warren ruining his plan - he honestly wouldn’t hold THAT big of a grudge over it, just because he can’t remember enough to be upset and it’s so far in the past now it doesn’t even seem to matter
Given that they didn’t interact much in ‘Stuck on You’, Hypno doesn’t remember that meeting either. Literally his first impression of this strange worm man is him literally dragging a chair into the ELoM meeting and then straight up zapping a hotel worker. So… pretty good first impression
Warren on the other hand, who does remember their first meeting, was not at all impressed with Hypno at first and just considered him to be a sub-standard villain at best. (he’s kinda jelly of just how big and tall he got to be thanks to his mutation though)
A few days after ‘Evil League of Mutants’/getting blasted off again by a turtle with a ladder, Hypno runs into a rather down and depressed looking Warren who’s just wandering around alone. Not knowing him very well though liking him well enough, Hypno stops him and invites him back to his place for tea
(the semi-flashback during Warren’s big speech in WaHSiaT, the bit where Hypno pulls the paper off a sad Warren with a five o’clock shadow is a dramatization of this. Gotta make it sadder to pull on the heartstrings, lol. Also where was his gauntlet in that scene?)
The two start hanging out regularly after that, mostly just talking or watching tv together - which is where they get their love of making fun of people on tv together
Warren also really appreciates Hypno’s genuine kindness and gentleness - and the fact that he doesn’t forget who he is, heh
He tries to be nice to Hypno in return because of this, even if he sometimes still talks a bit too much about himself at times. Hypno doesn’t mind too much
The point where they first open up to each other - Hypno revealing how he lost his hippo Doug and Warren being genuine about just how much being forgotten and losing his career hurt - is the big turning point in their relationship.
Are we ever gonna learn what happened to Doug, btw? Like, seriously what’s the story there? and while we’re at it why does Warren hate the turtles so much?
Hypno: “We may have lost a lot through all this… But, hey, we found each other, right? So, maybe it’s not all bad.” Warren decides that he agrees.
He moves into Hypno’s place shortly after
Originally Warren agreed to be Hypno’s magical assistant just to try and get his face back out there and earn some fans, but eventually found that he also liked helping Hypno and making him happy
Warren just naturally sits on Hypno’s shoulder or head when they watch tv, Hypno not minding at all (besides, makes it easier to cuddle)
their fave gameshows to watch (and make fun of) are Wheel of Fortune, The Price is Right and America’s Got Talent (Hypno likes making fun of the bad magic acts, and when the acts are amazing Warren will tell him they’re not NEARLY as amazing as him)
When Warren has a bad day, Hypno will wash/condition his hair and give him a scalp massage, letting his roomie vent all he wants while Hypno scrubs his troubles away
When Hypno has a bad day, Warren will get him fresh fruit, something Hypno’s loved ever since his mutation
On one occasion: “Kiwis for my favorite kiwi!” “…*sigh* You just couldn’t resist, eh?” “Nope!”
Warren also gets Hypno flowers sometimes, since Hypno really seems to like them
Hypno may or may not be keeping the first bouquet Warren ever bought him - yellow tipped with red roses - alive with magic
Trying to be as proper and dignified as possible, Hypno almost never curses - which means Warren totally teases him whenever he lets a ‘bugger’ or a ‘god dammit’ slip
Warren on the other hand couldn’t care less about swears. He doesn’t swear every other sentence or anything - I’d imagine it would be hard to get a job in television if that were the case - but if he’s really worked up or angry he won’t try to censor himself
For the first few weeks of their relationship, Google was Warren’s best friend. Now, Warren knows (almost) every New Zealand phrase there is
Going off his ‘my golden voiced amigo’ line, Hypno loves listening to Warren sing to himself whenever he’s in the shower (technically the bathroom sink since he’d just end up getting washed down the shower drain but w/e)
This also means that karaoke nights between the two of them are frequent
Their first Big Fight was over Hypno’s doves continuing to try and eat Warren and Warren nearly zapping their feathers off.
It wasn’t bad enough to break them up, but Warren was all pissy and purposely annoying the rest of that day while Hypno just gave him the cold shoulder
After a day of this they got lonely and missed each other, so they apologized to each other and Hypno spent the rest of that week diligently training his doves
Hypno’s rabbits, on the other hand, Warren doesn’t mind at all, and if one is out and hopping about and Hypno isn’t there, Warren will usually pet it/curl up on it
Warren’s a naturally fairly neat and tidy person, so he doesn’t mind too much when Hypno skips out on his side of the chores, even if he’s still slightly annoyed
to make up for this, Hypno does most of the cooking around the place and always has a cup of coffee or tea waiting for his roomie/best friend/boyfriend
When they first realized Warren and the Gauntlet were being hunted down by Draxum, Warren tried to leave, genuinely worried about Hypno’s safety even if he tried to play it off at first
Hypno refuses. “I can’t lose you too!”
This is the first time they tell each other they love each other (with how naturally Warren said it in WaHSiaT, that couldn’t have been the first time)
Warren fell into a depressive state after losing ‘Charlotte’. Hypno comforted him the best he could, but after a couple days passing with nothing changing, Hypno thought that maybe Warren was mad at him for the role he played in losing the gauntlet. So, Hypno spent the whole day and a good part of the night out of the apartment, figuring he should just give Warren some space
This led to him coming back and finding Warren in the middle of a complete and total emotional breakdown
He’s sad and angry about losing his cool power glove, but even moreso, he’s afraid that without it not only is he weak, but he’s truly forgettable and useless - even to the people he loves most and who love him. His Channel 6 co-workers forgot about him, why wouldn’t Hypno eventually?
This led to LOTS of apologizing/comforting/reassuring/hugs and kisses on Hypno’s part, with Warren eventually crying himself out on Hypno’s shoulder and the two of the sleeping on the couch together
After going back to Clem’s and not finding another magic artifact that feels as ‘right’ as the gauntlet did and discovering that a simple handgun would send him through a freaking wall on recoil, Warren decided to just have a taser on him as his new weapon. At least a taser is similar enough to a lightning-shooting gauntlet. He names it Charlotte the 2nd.
Hypno also uses his magic to shrink down a couple of his razor rings to give to Warren. Even if Warren can’t control their aim with magic, they still cause a decent amount of damage to an enemy with a hard enough throw.
Despite practically being together since Warren moved in, when the two of them officially decide to go from best friends to boyfriends they end up inviting all their old ELoM mates over to celebrate and announce the good news (minus Draxum, naturally). Todd and the Sando Brothers are happy for them, Repo could care less, and Meatsweats says congrats but is mostly just trying to figure out how to get Warren alone so he can maybe get a taste of his regeneration powers
He gets smacked on the snout with Hypno’s wand and nearly takes a razor ring to his face for his troubles.
Hypno still tries to help Warren with his plans whenever he’s a particular ‘revenge against those dang turtles’ mood and Warren will assist when Hypno has a scheme of his own, but mostly the two of them keep each other satisfied enough that they spend most of their time hanging out, watching tv and practicing magic (and cuddling/kissing) together
PHEW! Like I said, I had a lot. BUT I hope you guys liked it! ^v^ btw, I may turn that whole emotional breakdown bit into a Hippoworm oneshot, but if any hardcore Warren and Hypno shippers wanna steal that idea, go for it! *thumbs up* ^v^

Sooooooo I’ve been listening to wayyyyy too many Bridezilla/Disaster Wedding Reddit stories so, to remind myself that not all weddings are expensive timebombs: RotTMNT weddings!!!
Warren and Hypno: Admittedly, Warren is a bit of a Groomzilla, though it’s more nerves than anything else and once he and Hypno have a talk and he assures his worm bf that yes this is for real, Warren becomes a lot more tolerable (though still spends an hour making sure his tux and hair are perfect). Hypno, naturally, makes all the flowers for the wedding himself. They walk down the aisle together, Warren on Hypno’s shoulder and the two of them holding hands (er, finger). It’s a small wedding with really only the ELoM attending, but it’s special nonetheless and they get it on video so they can watch it over and over. Hypno’s vows are so dang sappy and romantic that it takes Warren a few minutes to calm himself down enough to say his own vows. At the reception and after the first dance, Warren sings a love song to Hypno, wanting to give Hypno a little something extra since their dancing is really just Hypno swaying back and forth with Warren in his hands, and Hypno absolutely loves it, practically falling in love with him all over again on the spot.
Lieutenant and Brute: Neither of them were really expecting to get married, so when they decided that they wanted to be together for the rest of their lives they really had no idea what to do. They ended up just eloping to keep it simple, though it was still intimate and meaningful with lots of candlelight and traditional vows. They spend the rest of the day and night together, just the two of them - no clan work, no Shredder, just them enjoying their new official bond. They continue this tradition each anniversary, seemingly disappearing from their clan for 24 hours and doing whatever they want together - usually lots of kissing and cuddling, looking back on old memories, marathoning movies or lying down and reading together, and going on long peaceful walks. On each century anniversary (one hundred years, two hundred, etc.) they renew their vows to each other and then share a cake. The last cake was a Lou Jitsu themed one that they just loved.
April and Sunita: Their wedding is in the Hidden City so it’s easier for Sunita’s relatives to attend, and of course April thinks a wedding in a mystical realm is just rad so she’s all for it. The ceremony is a mix of Yokai and human traditions, the latter Sunita was VERY excited to learn about. All four of the Turtles are her best man (or rather, men) and Mayhem is the cutest ring bearer ever! They ditch the traditional white wedding dress in order to wear each others colors - April in a slime green suit-dress with a pink tie and sash combo while Sunita wears a yellow gown adorned with tiny green crystals. The reception is, naturally, at Run of the Mill Pizza. April and Sunita share several dances, ranging from slow and romantic to silly and fun - never let Leo be assistant DJ for a wedding, he WILL play meme songs and Mikey has no problem letting him - before they dance with their fathers (or in April’s case, father, turtle brothers and surrogate Rat Dad) or anyone else. They later sneak off from the party to unwind a bit and just snuggle up to each other, hands intertwined as they watch the beautiful NYC nighttime skyline.
April and Recruit (I like both April pairings, what can I say?): Much like her senseis/surrogate fathers’ wedding, the affair is very small and intimate, only including Lieutenant, Brute, the turtles and Splinter, April’s parents and Mayhem, as well as any of her family that live in the NYC area. April doesn’t mind, and enjoys their small ceremony in Central Park. Speaking of her senseis, they both walk Recruit down the aisle (barely managing to hold it together), as well as providing the ceremony with plenty of beautiful origami flowers and candles. They all then share a meal + cake at April’s parents’ place, a mixture of traditional Japanese dishes and her family’s favorite New York style dishes. Recruit isn’t much for dancing and there really isn’t room for it in an apartment anyway, so the rest of the reception ends up being mostly enthusiastic storytelling - how they met, the battles they fought together, memorable dates and their eventual proposal, as well as fun and/or embarrassing stories about each of them courtesy of their families - and conversation as well as a few party games that the turtles drag out to liven things up. Lots of laughter and good memories, and the two brides happily team up to kick butt at Pictionary. Later on, when they get back to their place, Recruit requests one dance with April. April tells her they don’t have to, Recruit insists that she wants to, nerves and her slightly awkward dancing skills be damned. So April puts on her iPod, and the two dance around their apartment in the dark for what feels like hours, occasionally stealing kisses and whispering promises and I love yous to each other.
I’d write a BaronJitsu wedding bit but @halloweennut already did a great job with that prompt for one of her fic requests, so instead I’ll just focus a bit on the boys. We may not ever get love interests for them in the show, but I feel like at least one of them would get married, SO:
Raph and Mikey both wear traditional montsuki for their weddings - Raph as a nod to his pop’s culture, Mikey cause he just really likes the way it looks - while Leo and Donnie stick to tuxes. Leo’s is a classy and cool looking dark blue while Donnie wears a glamorous purple tux (sorta like his Dynamite Don look but with a black tie and more sparkle/flair) that he insists is NOT tacky, thank you very much! Heaven help whoever his spouse-to-be is, lol
April, naturally, is their Maid of Honor at each of their weddings. Raph also gets Buddy/Frankenfoot to be his Best Man at his wedding while Donnie chooses Shelldon to be both his Best Man and Ring Bearer. With how close they are, Leo and Mikey end up being each other’s Best Man (causing Raph and Donnie to get a bit jealous/feel a bit left out but they get over it quickly)
The ceremony is always in the sewers, but the receptions then get moved up to the surface in Central Park so they can party in the fresh air under the stars. Reception meals are usually pizza and one other main dish (probably chicken or filet mignon) for those who don’t like pizza, and then a few side dishes. Needless to say, Run of the Mill gets a LOT of catering jobs from this family
Raph’s vows end up being a bit rambly and wayyy too long, but they’re so sweet that his fiance can hardly care. He also picks his new spouse up as they/after they kiss, because he’s just so darn happy and because he can. No threshold to carry his spouse over in the sewers, so he just holds them and carries them all the way to the reception. That has to be extra good luck, right?
Donnie sets up small fireworks to go off at his wedding reception, because this boy is Extra. He also has plenty of dances with his spouse - though thankfully he’s more interested in being romantic and making his spouse smile than showing off.
Half of Leo’s vows and toasts are bad wedding puns, and he nearly gets cake thrown at him for it. Later on, Leo and his newlywed spouse end up ditching their reception halfway through, portaling to a private spot for the two of them to cuddle/makeout a little/talk about their wedding day. Leo may like to talk, but he can enjoy quiet moments with the one he loves too
Mikey gets inspired to spray paint an entire wedding mural for him and his fiance, which ends up being a great wedding photos spot. He also tries to cook his own wedding meal/bake his own cake, but the others insist that he sit this one out and just enjoy the food without having to make it.
And, of course, Splinter cries at every single one of his baby boys’ weddings, though always insists it’s just allergies cause of all the flowers. He gets plenty of hugs from his sons anyway.
aaaaand that’s all I got, lol. Anyway, feel free to add onto this with your own ideas/pairings ^v^

Random thought: Maybe the reason why we haven’t gotten Warren Stone’s backstory on why he hates the turtles so dang much is because it’s something suuuuper petty and not even their fault. Like, shortly after getting turned into a worm, he spotted them just minding their own business laughing and carrying on like teens, but because he was so emotionally charged and upset after being mutated he just projected all his anger onto them.
Or maybe he met them before he mutated, and they did something small like accidentally damage a Channel 6 antennae during one of his broadcasts, and while it wasn’t THAT big of a deal, when he lost everything else in his life he decided to get back at them cause, hey, what else is he gonna do? Or maybe he saw the turtles and tried to tell others but no one believed him, and while he was trying to get video evidence he got bit by an oozesquito, therefore becoming part of the story and losing the opportunity to report on it, and being bitter about that/thinking that if it weren’t for seeing the turtles, he never would’ve been mutated.
There could be a dozen different incredibly minuscule and petty reasons Warren could have for hating these teens that aren’t much of a menace and are really just doing their own thing... BUT, I think there’s only ONE reason why they haven’t revealed his reason for his hatred: Because I believe that Warren’s story isn’t about ‘a guy turned villainous over one bad day’, but rather - similar to characters like Bullhop and Splinter - it’s going to be a story of adaptation and finding new purpose in life.
Compared to ‘Newsworthy’ and ‘Stuck on You’, Warren’s hatred towards the turtles was heavily downplayed in ‘Warren and Hypno, Sitting in a Tree’. Yes, this might have been because of his focus being mainly on his gauntlet and Hypno, but even so I was surprised he didn’t threaten or insult the turtles nearly as much in this episode, being fairly civil with them up until his betrayal. And it made me realize, Warren isn’t really a character driven by revenge or even anger. He’s driven by ego. And while getting his power gauntlet didn’t quite give him enough of a power boost to put him on the same threat level as Draxum/The Foot/Big Mama, he still ended up gaining a boyfriend that saw him for who he was and admired him for it. (*right after he’s finished threatening April* “That’s my Warren!”). His ego is being satisfied with love rather than status/fame or power, which ended up making him the happiest we’ve ever seen him. And, despite losing that power, Warren still gets to keep Hypno, as well as managing to keep April on his side as a fan. “It was you or the gauntlet, and to some of us, well, you’re kind of a big deal.”
I feel like there’s a pretty good guarantee that, even without his weapon and even though he’s happy with Hypno, Warren’s going to keep making appearances - keep trying to feed his ego with revenge and overhyping himself in his mind as a grand villain just so he can still have SOME sort of fame despite no longer being a newscaster. But, eventually, one of the turtles are gonna have to be curious enough to ask “Dude, why do you hate us? What did we do to you?”
Prompted by this, Warren is going to have to reveal his motivations... And it’ll be that moment, when he speaks them out loud and has to face them directly, forced to think about these motivations now in the context of EVERYTHING both past and present, that he’s going to realize... Wow, that is INCREDIBLY petty and not even worth getting worked up about. But, most likely, he’ll still try to defend himself and try to justify the pettiness because that’s a heck of a lot better than admitting defeat, only to inevitably be reminded of everything he’s gained along with everything he’s lost - and it’s going to hit him that he no longer really needs revenge as much as he used to and that killing the turtles doesn’t feel nearly as good or cathartic as he once thought it would, because despite being a worm for the past several months... His life is actually still pretty alright. Not perfect, and there will still be things he’ll miss, but he’s also dealing with ‘this whole situation’ and he’s going to be okay.
And, inevitably (or maybe this is just wishful thinking on my part) the thought will cross his ego-driven mind... If I don’t really need to be the turtles greatest enemy, then why don’t I try being their greatest ally? Because darn it, no matter what side Warren is on or how outmatched he is, he’s still going to try and be a star. Except this time, he’s no longer alone, if he still has Hypno and manages to get anyone else on his side. (Also that thing with April being a fan is totally gonna come back in some way, it HAS to!)
aaaaaanyway, long theory short: That’s my thinking behind why we haven’t really gotten a backstory/clear motivation for Warren despite him being so prominent, because the writers are sorta doing a redemption story in-reverse. Rather than seeing the villain’s motivation and understanding their fall from grace, possibly gaining the villain some sort of unearned sympathy or empathy that could persuade viewers to excuse their awful actions, we’re instead watching Warren slowly but surely go from pathetic and vengeful to satisfied and possibly willing to even switch sides depending on what eventually goes down, because - AGAIN, just like Bullhop and Splinter - what this character does to adapt to his new situation and how he learns to become happy with his life/figuring out what non-evil things he can do with his new life is much MUCH more interesting of a story arc than just your standard One Bad Day villain out for revenge. A story where his past doesn’t matter in face of a surprisingly bright future that he’s able to fight for without hurting others, if he chooses to go for it.
...Also I just really like the idea of Warren eventually becoming part of the turtles ever-growing group of Mutant and Yokai friends and allies (we’ve already got Todd, DIGG, Bullhop and Senor Hueso, so why not Warren and even Hypno? Just let them be their weird, still semi-villainous uncle figures), so yeah I’m all for a Warren redemption. Anything to keep him relevant and coming back occasionally
#rottmnt#warren stone#WOW I hope this makes sense#this was pretty much just a stream of thought i'm sorry
