Some attempts at a design for Selena :3. The second image is inspired by the wedding in Haunted Castle, but I changed Simonâs outfit cause idk I just canât picture him being comfortable in a suit.
The last two of these are way more headcanon-y lol. Theyâre under a cut mostly in case my headcanons and story ideas change d(^^ ). One of them was inspired by a Kikuo song I was listening to while drawing lol, the song âLetâs Go to Heavenâ.

UPDATE 161: Gilâs No Good Terrible Very Bad Day
Last time Gil had completed the formula Tarvek had created, and gave it to Bangladesh so she wouldnât get wasped. Before he could take his part of the solution, he gets knocked out because Bangladesh thinks Gil is playing with fire. Letâs continue.
Oh, heâs finally waking up, and the first thing he sees is the face of one of those wasp-detecting weasels. Right, Gil thenâwait what?
âŠ
âŠ
âŠ
âŠhuh? Sorry, what? What didâŠdid I miss something? Whatâs going on? How did this happen? Are you trying to tell me Gil is already infected? How long has the Baron been here? Did Lucrezia already have another spark-infecting wasp? Did it happen while he was unconscious? I-Iâm so lost right now, this is not what I expected as the very first page of the update. What?
Wait, thereâs something Iâm wondering, too. I know the Baron is infected, we the readers saw it happen. Thereâs no room for mistake. So why wasnât the weasel reacting to him? I really doubt it chose the moment it was put near Gil to start thrashing around because of the Baronâs current status. Could it be the slaver wasp that infects sparks canât be detected by these? No, then it wouldnât make sense thereâs a reaction on Gil.
HmmmmâŠ
Okay, my current thought is that maybe the Baron is doing something to frame Gil, to make it look like heâs been infected. This way he can get Gil out of the way, and nobody would listen to Gil when he tries to warn the Baron is infected. I donât have the slightest idea how such thing as framing Gil could be done, but thatâs my guess.
Kind of an understatement, title. This has gone from ânot my dayâ to âliving nightmareâ.
Oh, great, the Baron is taking this as a sign Agatha is the Other. You know, as a mystery fan, thereâs a certain truthâŠletâs take this at face value, that the Baron isnât doing anything other than checking Gil and didnât tamper with the process or anything. Itâs often said that when reading a mystery, you must try to stay open-minded because otherwise, if you have a concrete scenario or a suspect or whatever in mind, youâll interpret everything you see as proof youâre right. Itâs dangerous. You can get to wrong conclusions, based on evidence interpreted incorrectly. The Baron could be falling in that problem.
I mean, Iâm not saying itâs unreasonable to get to the conclusion that Gil may have been infected with a wasp because he was close to the Other â if it had been anyone else other than Gil or Tarvek Iâd be inclined to agree! â but the Baron has been saying for ages that Agatha is the Other, and as far as I know, Lucrezia-in-Agatha didnât infect anyone other than the Baron. I guess it could have happened off-screen, but frankly Iâd feel cheated.
Just how long was Gil unconscious? Thereâs a crowd, he has been chained to a tableâŠBangladesh must hit very hard for him to have been knocked out for this long! Heck, I bet there are even arrangements already for Gil to be in that Red level the Baron just mentioned. This man is always prepared.
He promises heâll help Gil all he can. I doubt itâll be pleasant for Gil, but I for one am glad that the Baronâs love for his son is still here. Itâs something I like of him, the ruthlessness of his actions and how much he loves Gil. Iâd fully believe heâd really try everything in his power to help Gil. Oh, but Agatha and everyone else involved is going to die. Them not Gil, them will die.
Wait, WHAT?!
So Wulfenbach knows Agatha may not have been the one to wasp Gil, because he was infected while in Paris. That was long ago! And Wulfenbach found that out through documents found in Sturmhalten, which means Tarvekâs father, and/or the Knights of Jove, and/or Tarvek himself knew about this. Holy moly, this is not something I saw coming. So are you saying the Other managed to make more than one wasp to infect sparks? Thatâs not good!
Heck, maybe the one that infected the Baron is an advanced version that canât be detected by the weasels, while the one Gil got infected with is an old version. That could explain how the Baron can go around without setting off any alarms. Not that...there are weasels everywhere, as long as an infected person stays away from them they should go undetected.
Zola must have been the one to infect Gil, because thereâs no way Tarvek did it. I believe Tarvek has enough standards to really hate the thought of slaver wasps existing at all. In that case, she must have done it under orders of the Knights of Jove. I hope Gil wonât suspect Tarvek had anything to do with this â which, uh, wouldnât be surprising if Gil thought that, since he has blamed Tarvek for his familyâs actions like four times already.
Bangladesh was in Paris too but she wasnât infected. Good point! And when Gil points that out the Baron arrives. The problem is that they canât askâ
WAIT, WHAT?!
I donât even know whatâs going on anymore!
Okay, I have thought about the situation. I think Tarvek may not have known about Gil being infected, but if he did, I donât think he had this formula to poison anyone, and while I guess thereâs a possibility itâs defective, letâs suppose it works properly. What if it wasnât some kind of formula to prevent infection? What if it is to...keep it at bay or something, and he gave it to Gil so heâd unknowingly medicate himself? Maybe Bangladesh had such a bad reaction to it because she wasnât infected. Yeah. Itâs just a theory, but itâs the what I thought after a while.
Looks like thatâs the end of the scene. What follows is a promotional picture.
A novel about the events of Sturmhalten, huh. What an interesting illustration style! Right, now I remember thereâs also novelizations of this story. I wonder how many volumes there are right now? Obviously there isnât one per every webcomic volume...I think.
Oh. The scene continues. Anyway, Agathaâs ancestry isnât doing her any favors. The Heterodynes were insane and horrible, Lucrezia was...well apparently she comes from a horrible family too. To him Agatha is horrible squared. What Gil feels is his emotions being manipulated by the wasp, then? Thatâs what the Baron thinks. I donât know if thatâs accurate or not, but...I donât think it is.
The scene is now over. Meanwhile, in Mechanisburg? Who are these characters and where did they come from? I had almost forgotten the Foglios had gained the bad habit of jumping to random people out of the blue.
Apparently these two are the last hostile forces in Mechanisburg, and they were hiding in a cellar. Somehow, the current state of gossip is that the Baron is dead or wounded â neither is true, judging by how he was fine during that last scene â there are twenty Heterodyne imposters fighting inside the Castle â Zola achieve cloning! Like some sort of amoeba, I guess â and Gil ran away with the Storm King â he makes it sound like theyâre going in a romantic getaway, hah. Anyway, seems to me like these two have been hiding for quite some time.
I just wanted to say I really liked this womanâs design. Itâs too bad itâs very likely she wonât ever be seen again. Anyway, they leave the cellar and this man decides to take Higgs and Zeetha as hostages. Thatâs bound to go well! But not for him.
Thereâs a short montage of status reports. Things in general seem to be going well. Enemies are surrendering and looking for mercy, building supplies are short, Dr. Sun is assembling casualty lists...seems to me like things are going well enough despite everything. Zeetha demands to know whatâs going on with...Agatha? Itâs Agatha, right?
It is Agatha.
Working on something thatâll undoubtedly prove to be helpful. Kind of reminds me of the very first clank she made.
You know, people sure recover very quickly from mortal injuries in this story. How long ago was Zeetha wounded? Like...a day, two days? Higgs has the excuse of being Higgs, but Zeetha isnât Higgs. I suppose she received some hefty doses of help from Mamma Gkika.
But itâs better this way, itâd be awful if Zeetha overexerted herself. She has plans to teach Agatha princess stuff. Warrior princess stuff. Battle axes are involved. Neat!
Apparently Zeetha frowns at Agathaâs leadership style of being hands-on with the mechanical stuff the town needs. She has a point, though. The town is filled with skilled people who could do a lot of work on clanks and stuff, but thereâs only one Heterodyne. She may have to focus on other matters. Like fighting! Because theyâre going to get armors right now. Hah! Okay, I donât really know what Zeethaâs plans are, but theyâre indeed going to get armors.
This may be a good place to stop.

UPDATE 14: Trigger Event
Last time I had finished Arc 3, and was about to start Arc 4! Turns out the Undersiders managed to pull off successfully the bank robbery and got away with minor injuries, the worst of them being a dislocated shoulder â which Iâm told really can be fixed by pushing it back into the socket, but it hurts a lot. Arc 4 is titled âShellâ, and that tells me absolutely nothing about what its contents, so letâs start.
Taylor returned to school after...what, two days of not going and two days of leaving in the afternoon? Her grades must be awful by now. Iâm almost 60% sure Taylor is going to leave without completing the school day. So, the setting is the school, and the very first line is spoken by the Brockton Bay Miss Congeniality Award Winner -- Emma. This arc is off to a potentially painful start, isnât it?
Indeed, Emma has come to taunt Taylor and tell her nobody noticed her absence â which is true, not even the teachers seems to have noticed. Taylor tries to defend herself by acting blasĂ© and shooting back a few jabs about Emmaâs lack of maturity, content that if Emma was taking the time to do the old routine of scathing words and opening old wounds, then she wouldnât have time to prepare the proverbial tar and feathers later. The fact that Mr. Wildbow conspired with his authorial fiat to make Emma be deliciously clueless about the events of this story makes this scene almost funny:
âReally, Taylor?  Tell me, what are you doing with yourself?  Youâre not going to school, you have no friends, I doubt youâre working. Are you really in a position to call me immature, when Iâve got all that going for me and you just⊠donât?â
If you knew, Emma...you know, somehow Iâm not sure what Emmaâs reaction would be if she ever finds out Taylor is a cape, or if she finds out Taylor is a supervillain who robs banks and threatens people with black widow spiders. Iâm not sure if Emma would be surprised and wondering if she missed any hints, or if sheâd be befuddled Taylor didnât send swarms after her as revenge, or if sheâd scoff and think âoh, of course Taylor is a criminalâ. Maybe she wonât ever find out. For now thereâs a strange feeling of satisfaction at knowing that Taylor is officially a budding villain and Emma is clueless about it.
Taylor laughs in Emmaâs face, pretty much ending the scene, and scampers out of the classroom without a care in the world. Well this went better than it could have gone! Itâs a relief, honestly. Taylor muses that she has been...curiously fine despite, you know, committing a felony the day before. The reasons why are simple: one, she went to school, breaking the pattern of skipping it. In fact, she just completed a whole day of school! I sincerely congratulate her for that. The other reason is that her recent actions arenât in the front page of the newspaper. We made page three of the Bulletin, coming behind a one and a half page story on an Amber Alert and a General Motors advertisement. Given that having a big article describing her terror wouldnât make her look like a heroic person, this must be great for her conscience. It also helps that those who are considered as âheroic peopleâ are getting bad publicity right now: All in all, the story had been more focused on the property damage, most of which was caused by Glory Girl and the Wards. Hmmmm...how did the other Undersiders react? Was any of them bummed about the lack of front-page recognition, or are they fine with being relegated to the third page? It doesnât say â yet.
Now that Taylor spent a whole day in school, sheâs in liberty of doing what she wants, so she goes to the Docks, but not to the Undersidersâ hideout. Sheâs going to a market. Alec, Brian and Lisa were there. No sign of Rachel, I guess itâs because committing crimes isnât enough to forge bonds of camaraderie with the person you tried to mutilate less than a week ago.
Oh. Thereâs a different reason here. Sheâs well known enough that sheâd catch someoneâs eye, and from there, itâs only a short leap to figuring out who the people sheâs hanging with are.â Huh...Brian is right about that. I hadnât considered it...but Iâm supposing Rachel likes it more this way. Sheâs not the most sociable person around, she may be fine with having to stay away from everyoneâs eyes.
It also helps that this way Rachel is conveniently away from the way dogs are treated around here. A woman walks by, carrying a dog wearing a sweater. Thatâd be enough to make Rachel ballistic.
âThe sweater. The dog being carried. Â Rachel would be up in her face, telling that woman itâs not the way a dog should be treated. Â Screaming at her, maybe threatening violence, if one of us didnât step in to handle things.â Â
Rachel is like a more extreme and rage-filled Cesar Millan. Somehow I have the feeling saying that would be a ticket to getting punched in the gut. To the surprise of no one, itâs said mistreatment of dogs is what would make Rachel be truly angry, which prompts Taylor to ask the big mystery of the day: âHas she killed anyone?â ...apparently she has! Honestly? I didnât expect that. I thought that Rachel would be the big red herring here, that somehow she hadnât caused any deaths, but turns out she has, even if it may be classified as âmanslaughterâ. I doubt Armsmaster cares about the distinction, so thatâs one killer found. Which one could be the other...hmmmm...
Alec returned from the stall wearing a Kid Win shirt. Classy behavior, Alec. He must be feeling real proud of causing damages to Kid Winâs stuff. Next Alec will buy a skateboard painted like Kid Winâs hoverboard and use it to light up a bonfire, I guess.
Given that right now theyâre spending money around, Taylor asks whatâs going to happen now with their, hm, âjob and paymentâ. âItâs just a matter of handing the cash over to the boss later tonight.â I had thought the boss would pick up the cash from where they had left it! Is Lisa going to hand it over in person? Nobody cares because they all trust the boss. Other than that, theyâre free to do whatever they want until they have a new job to do.
I felt kind of conflicted about the âtake it easy and waitâ plan. Â On the one hand, taking a break sounded awesome. Â The last week had been intense, to put it lightly. On the other hand, it sort of sucked that we wouldnât be out there on another job, since Iâd be waiting that much longer for a chance on getting more details on the boss. Â Iâd just have to hope I could find something out tonight.
Sorry, Taylor, there are...273 chapters left. Youâre not finding something out tonight. Besides, the more she spends with the Undersiders, the less she'll want to betray them, Iâm sure of it. Theyâre pretty much the only people willing to spend time with Taylor and be her friend, I doubt sheâll be in a hurry to tattle on them once she gets attached to them emotionally.
Lisa steals Taylor aside for a shopping trip, taking her aside and talking about what sheâd buy. Is she faking her enthusiasm so she could take Taylor aside? This felt a bit forced to me. Anyways, thatâs the end of the chapter. It was...largely uneventful. Thereâs not really much to comment there, however, there is something I was passed here by my screener, one of the comments in that chapter.
sheâs spending so much time trying to figure out which of the others have killed; itâs going to turn out Lung didnât make it, iâm betting.
Itâd be a twist! But sadly it wouldnât work, because if Taylor had caused Lungâs death, well, I donât think Armsmaster would have been roundabout over it. Besides, heâd be punished much more than he was, right? And finally, the Undersiders would have heard something if the leader of this big gang in the Docks died. No, it canât be Taylor. Thatâs good for her, the thought of someone dying because of her...thatâd hit her hard. To the next chapter!
Lisa channels those TLC programs about what clothing people have, telling Taylor what her clothing says about her. Itâs largely accurate. Â âYouâre observant, detail oriented and focused. Â More than any of the others. Â You watch, you interpret, and then you act with this careful, surgical precision. Thatâs a strength and a flaw.â Perfect! I agree. And you want to change it so everyday people are caught off-guard by Taylorâs personality? Not really, apparently.
âI donât like lying to my dad.â ...thereâs going to be a lot of lying, wonât there? From what I see of Mr. Hebert, I canât say heâd approve of Taylor being one of the Undersiders. Lying to him or telling him and having to go against his will anyway...itâs like choosing the lesser evil, isnât it?
Lisa proceeds to show the extent of her powers, informing Taylor of her theories. âAt first I thought your dad was abusing you.â Thatâs...a bit of a nonchalant way of saying that, Lisa. Thankfully, Taylor doesnât react to that. Lisa theorizes that what bothers Taylor the most is at school, and this has been a topic of discussion with Brian and Alec. âI could help make the suckish parts suck less,â she offered.
...
...
...thatâd be...Iâm not sure if itâd be great or not. My initial thought is âoh, please, go ahead!â but this would cause all sorts of trouble, wouldnât it? Those bullies would back off, but people can be insidious. Things can get worse. Lisa could risk being accused of something. Taylor could get interrogated about the strange friend who pranced into the school and confronted a few people. This could go wrong in many ways, I think...
âHaving me try on clothes is fine,â I told her, doing my level best to keep my voice calm, âBut you interfere directly in my problems, and Iâm gone.â I can always appreciate somebody who wants to keep both sides of life apart. The smallest leak can lead to Taylor being found out, after all. They discuss the clothes Taylor is going to buy, Lisa is paying for it all. âA bribe in exchange for your silence,â Lisa winked at me. Keeping silent about offering to solve Taylorâs problems, you mean?
Apparently not. This is about how badly Lisa managed to screw up, about Panacea being in the bank. Looks like the rest of the band didnât find out she was there. Itâs less about they doubting her skills, and more about they being teenagers. They wouldnât let her live it down. Hah! Lisa reiterates that sheâs willing to intervene in Taylorâs life whenever she wants. Hmm...foreshadowing? A simple gesture of friendship to further the characterization or Mr. Wildbow setting things up for Lisa taking action in the problems if Taylorâs life? Iâm not sure. Or it could be nothing, and Iâm clinging to this for nothing. What can I say, I love mysteries, I tend to focus on anything that can hint something happening later in a book.
Once the shopping is done, they all reunite at Fugly Bobâs, where the food is so greasy paper bags turn transparent and there are foods like âHideous Bobâ. Anyone with any sense then waited a year to give their hearts a chance to recuperate. Really now. I think my brand marketer heart is the one that needs to recuperate. I literally shuddered. Thank goodness this is fiction!
Taylor inquires whatâs going to happen later. Any other crimes to commit anytime soon? Taylor hopes itâll be less intense, with less confrontation with capes. Taylor doesnât want to risk dismemberment. Nothing is said, so I guess thereâs no plan for the foreseeable future. They continue eating a while longer before Taylor decides this is a grand time to ask for an infodump. âI know itâs kind of cliche, but when people with powers get together, isnât it kind of standard to share origin stories?â Please do, guys! Iâm interested in hearing everyoneâs backstories. Judging by everyoneâs reactions, there arenât happy memories at all. Thatâs the end of the chapter. Will there be answers the next chapter? I hope there are.
Hello there, I finished the update and decided to add this caveat. Fair warning, since things got heavy, I wasnât exactly in mood to joke around or anything like that. Sorry, things are getting tough here.
So yes, next chapter. It starts in a promising way: âLet me put it this way. Â When you got your powers, were you having a good day?â Taylor says ânoâ. Looks like getting powers isnât done through happy thoughts. There are many with the potential to have powers, but only someone who has been pushed far enough will acquire them â and not always, I suppose. Would I be correct to suppose that Taylorâs awakening of her powers was a byproduct of her bullying? Some would think that itâd be her motherâs death, but...I donât know, the way Taylor has to reign in her powers â like shown in the first chapter â shows a link between anger and her powers, instead of sorrow.
Nobody tells their backstories, but Taylor wants to tell hers. Well thatâs nice. Iâm a bit disappointed I wonât hear the backstories for the rest of the Undersiders yet, but thereâs a lot of Worm left. Thereâs time for that. So, Taylor, how did you acquire these powers of yours? The people Iâm talking about⊠I donât want you to take revenge on them on my behalf or anything. Looks like my guess was accurate.
âI guess I feel that if you guys jumped in and beat them up or humiliated them or made them tearfully apologize, I wouldnât feel like Iâd dealt with things myself. There wouldnât be any closure.â
Judging by how youâre going to stoically endure it, there wonât be any closure at all unless you move away from them. It says a lot of Taylorâs inner strength, I guess. So, Taylor starts talking. She starts by telling there were three girls making her life miserable, and that her worst moment happened at a time those three stopped. During that time, one of the girls that sometimes joined in taunting Taylor apologized and turned into her friend â and now Iâm afraid of reading anything else, because Iâm already guessing where this is going. I canât say I have ever experienced something like this from any side, but false friends are a bit of a touchy point for me. Tough luck, me, youâre going to read this.
...wow. This is actually worse than I had expected. I heard Mr. Wildbow got inspirations of moments that did happen to people he knew. I can only say that if this is copied verbatim from one of those moments...I hope the person who went through this is okay and is happy right now. So, to describe it in few words: the bullies filled Taylorâs locker with used tampons and pads, left it in there for two weeks, and locked her inside. No wonder this is one of Taylorâs worst days ever!
Gaining this new power was very disorienting at first, like having a whole new sense â which is pretty much what this was. Suddenly Taylor could feel the bugsâ location, what they were seeing, and it was all very confusing. Taylor was taken to the hospital and while she was under observation, she pinpointed what was going on in her head. And thatâs how she got her powers. Oh, that friend? She simply didnât talk to Taylor again. And thatâs Taylorâs trigger event. Highly unpleasant. This is grim, really.
Alec says what Iâm sure a lot of people have thought or said while reading Worm: âWhy donât you use your power?â And he isnât happy with Taylorâs response about how itâd be easy to guess it was Taylor doing it â they would have no proof, in my opinion â so he insists. Brian...he sides with Alec on this, and Lisa says nothing. Looks like even the characters in this story have a hard time wrapping their heads around Taylorâs refusal to fight back.
Alec wants to give crabs to the capes they encounter and is disappointed with Taylor refuses. Iâm not sure what to do with this information, hah!
So, Taylor explains why she refuses to do anything, and itâs because itâd enter into this complicated Ouroboros of constant retaliation. Bullies suffer lice, they get frustrated, they torment Taylor further, Bullies suffer even more lice, they get even more frustrated, they torment Taylor ever more...and so and so, until somebody gets hurt. Paraphrasing. Taylor has repressed a lot of anger, too, so she knows her own limits and that if she lets her anger take over her, she wonât contain herself for much longer. All in all, it really is a show of Taylorâs strength, if anything for other peopleâs sake. She may be angry, but she isnât angry enough to actually try to make other people suffer.
Lisa leaned forward, âTell me it wouldnât be awesome if we kidnapped their leader, pulled a hood over her head, dragged her into a van and dropped her off in the woods at midnight, ten miles out of town, with nothing but her skivvies.â
Honestly, Lisa? Hell no, it isnât awesome. Iâm all for revenges -- honestly I have a bit of a vindictive streak, I admit it â but thatâs too far, isnât it? Lisa disappoints me a bit by smiling at the mental image, but in the end she refuses to acknowledge it, saying it indeed would go too far.
âThen why the fuck are you a supervillain?â
âEscape.â The word left my mouth almost immediately, before Iâd had a chance to even think about what it meant.
Escape from her everyday life of school bullying, you mean? Blowing off some steam and frustration? Itâs not entirely wrong, Taylor herself admits it. Â All she wants is to keep these two lives separate and spend time with friends. âYes, Taylor, weâre friends,â Brian said, âAnd we appreciate, or at least, I appreciate that you trusted us enough to share your story.â Alright! Itâs official! Taylor, youâre definitely not going to betray the Undersiders now that Brian said this. Guess youâre a villain from now on! Have fun.
Now that Taylor shared her story, itâs somebody elseâs turn, but nobody wants. Alec doesnât bother to say a thing, and Lisa simply says sheâll tell once she had a few drinks, but sheâs still underage. Golly, how about that, haha! I always find it a bit amusing when seasoned criminals are concerned about comparatively minor offenses. The supervillain refuses to indulge in underage drinking! Man I love that trope; too bad I donât read see it very often.
Since nobody wants to share, Brian decides he was going to be the one to bring up the exposition now. Great! I know pretty much nothing about Brian, this should be a chance to see his past, what kind of life he had before being a supervillain...hmm...something I noted is that the powers and the trigger events themselves have no link, at least in Taylorâs case, so I canât guess what Brian went through that caused him to acquire powers. Whatâs for sure is that it was very bad. How bad...that remains to be seen next time.
Next update: five updates
