i feel happy! that life is semi returning to normal. that means, the weather is nice, NYC is opening up, subways are getting crowded again, and i’m not paranoid of anti-asian hate crimes anymore. i have a social life, and i have trips planned. i spent the last two months building up my social life and i’m surprised at how well it’s going. since the last time, i’ve met 11. yoola 12. lan. my circle has now expanded horizontally, and now it’s time to work on building friendships. i went hiking with L and S yesterday. i felt touched with L made an IG post of our hiking trip and included a heart in the caption haha. on our hike yesterday, i mentioned that NYC people seem to be more reliable and less flakey than LA - that in LA, i was considered “punctual” among my friends, but that i was always the late one here. L and S said that i just came across good people/filtered out the bad ones - and that there are plenty of flakey people in NYC as well.

a new thing for me is also befriending people who come from a higher social class. the majority of my friends back home have immigrant parents who aren’t very educated, well-off, nor are “professionals”. it’s still bewildering to me when new friends say their parents have a PhD or are doctors. i feel like i’m still “connie from the block” LOL. yesterday, i mentioned to S that i lived in the city city of LA. the first thing she said was, “don’t most people live in the suburbs? isn’t the actual city dangerous”? and then i realized i was part of the “dangerous” population. 

G and his bf D also came to NYC to visit for a few days. i’m happy to have also met D and to spend time with an old friend in a new city. 

today, i went to have a solo breakfast at kong sihk tong because i had stuff to return at everlane. i also went to pick up food at our fav chinatown shops. i didn’t realize how much cash i was spending (all cash only establishments), so by the time i got to the chicken shop, i was actually short of money to buy half a chicken. once i realized i was short, i told the guy to cancel my order. however, an older white guy (the only other customer in the shop) insisted that he can help pay the remaining $8 that i was short of T.T. that may have been the nicest thing a stranger has done for me. 

work has been pretty easy and seamless. my dietitian friend is launching her book this week so i’ve been helping with updating her website to reflect that. 

now that i semi have a life of my own, i’m less dependent on matt (yay!). the girls i met have mentioned that i’m very independent considering matt’s crazy schedule. i’m like yeaaaa i try haha. matt is pushing through the last few weeks of intense work before vacation. i have social plans through these last weeks so i’m ready for it!
