I grew up in small-town Texas and when I finally got exposed to people living in places like Dallas and Austin, I met WAY more “cowboys” and girls who wanted “cowboys” than I did living in a small town. Where I’m from there were rednecks, but there were also *genuine* cowboys, guys that rode horses and kept cattle and went fishing to *eat* rather than just for fun and taking pictures of their catch. Thing is, no one ever bragged about being “country.” It was just their life. Of course, I hung out with the angsty artsy emo kids in school.
