So I was wondering if you could talk about the Kyle/cartman and batman/joker parallels because there is a LOT. Im considering doing my own analysis but I wanted to hear another perspective, if possible?
This is an Interesting topic.
I think it would be an understatement to call Cartman anything but an agent of chaos. The Joker believes that everyone around him is no different than himself, and he seeks to expose that. While Cartman doesn't really want to expose everyone for being just as bad as he is, as that would require admitting he is bad in the first place, that is still definitely a belief he holds deep down. With Joker this belief culminates into an obsession with Batman, someone who operates by a strict moral code, someone Joker believes is SO similar to him, whose attention he is constantly seeking while trying to get him to basically "admit" that they are the same by killing him. The Joker finds great amusement in his altercations with Batman. In a very similar way, which I'm sure you've already picked up, Cartman feels and behaves when it comes to Kyle. If there is on person in south park Cartman truly considers on his level it is Kyle. And in a similar vein to the Joker he find great amusement in his and Kyle's arguments.
Neither Batman nor the Joker can ever truly win against eachother tho. Due to their unchanging nature and beliefs they can never cross that bridge. The only way for Batman to truly beat the Joker is to kill him (aka become him), which goes against all his morals, and the Joker could never kill Batman.
“You just couldn’t let me go, could you? This is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object. You truly are incorruptible, aren’t you? You won’t kill me out of some misplaced sense of self-righteousness, and I won’t kill you because you’re just too much fun. I think you and I are destined to do this forever”, a quote of Jokers from the Dark Knight.
(This quote is literally such a good description for Cartman and Kyle overall)
Just like these two Kyle and Cartman can never truly win against eachother. Kyle could never let himself stoop down to Cartman's level, and Cartman even tho he has attempted to "kill Kyle" many times, could never truly do it for the fact that his life would just be dull without him around to fight with.
There is a good chunk of works that depict that relationship between Joker and Batman as "friendly" (take that with like a grain of salt) in a way. The very fact that Batman refuses to kill him, even going so far as continually saving The Joker. Essentially allowing him to roam free again and again, simply because he believes that there is something worth saving there.
“Do you understand? I don’t want to hurt you. I don’t want either of us to end up killing the other. But we’re running out of alternatives and we both know it”, Batman in The Killing Joke.
In a similar manner Kyle is continuously trying to see something good in Cartman, even against his better judgement. Constantly saving him from trouble, from a sense of moral obligation and maybe even one of genuine friendships. There is a part of Kyle that genuinely believes that Cartman can change.
The same comic ends with the two characters realizing that they can never truly trust eachother (told to us through a metaphor in a joke The Joker tells to Batman). They both start cackling at the ridiculousness of their situation, almost as if they were two friends having a laugh.
We are shown so many times in this show that Cartman and Kyle could be genuinely good friends, there are multiple instances of them acting so. But their antagonistic relationship towards eachother is something Kyle and Cartman can never manage to escape, even after 40 years they seem to regress at the first look they have of eachother. In a way that's similar to the Joker and Batman they need eachother. Their characters linger on each other. They justify eachothers existence by being eachothers narrative foils. Which kinda dooms them to a life of fighting.
#this is way too deep for a south park analysis lmao#eric cartman#kyle broflovski#sp kyman#kyman#kyman dynamic#south park#kyman discussion

Dick is abused by Bruce in canon.
Fandom: ...yeah but not really though, I mean its not like the times with Jason or Tim, now you wanna talk abusive, let’s talk about those....
Dick dies in canon.
Fandom: ...yeah but not really though, I mean it was only for a couple of minutes, its not like the times with Jason or Damian, now you wanna talk death trauma, let’s talk about those.....
Dick was fired as Robin after being shot, with Bruce taking away the name and mantle he’d created to honor his first family.
Fandom: ....yeah, not really though. I mean, its not like that time with Jason replaced by Tim or Tim replaced by Damian, and c’mon, the being fired thing is really only a retcon that didn’t even need to happen, now you wanna talk being fired or replaced or wronged, let’s talk about those....
Dick grows up being subjected to constant racism and classism from Gotham’s upper class.
Fandom: ....eh, still seems like a spoiled rich kid to me. I mean its not like as bad as Jason had it, now you wanna talk tough time growing up with Bruce, let’s talk about him....
Dick is shot in the head and gets amnesia.
Fandom: ...yeah, but not really digging his personality changes, tbh....
Dick is brainwashed and psychologically manipulated and controlled.
Fandom: ....okay but did he have to be such an asshole about it though?
Dick is lost and grieving when believing his father dead, and forced to shoulder impossible burdens and expectations with no clear solution and usually with conflicting expectations heaped on him by multiple different parties he feels responsible for.
Fandom: .....okay but Tim was more hurt and grieving and also why didn’t Dick believe him tho.....
Dick has lost countless friends who’ve died over the years, not all of whom have been brought back to life some way or another.
Fandom: .....I mean, who hasn’t, am I right?
Dick watched his parents die right in front of him.
Fandom: ....okay but at least he had parents who loved him, Jason and Tim and Cass didn’t even have that much!
Dick was thrown into juvie by the very system that was supposed to protect him.
Fandom: ....sure, if you wanna insist on going with the one super angsty take that tbh doesn’t seem all that believable, compared to his siblings’ super realism based origins....
Dick was kicked out or driven away by Bruce at multiple times, in multiple continuities.
Fandom: ....sure, if you wanna insist on going with the two or three super angsty takes on years worth of continuity, but gotta say, seems like you just got a hard on for the dude suffering....
Dick spent months passively suicidal, eventually getting more and more reckless and seemingly with a death wish.
Fandom: ....okay but its like his dad said when dishing out the tough love, he lost sight of the value of his own life and wtf dude, that’s not cool.
Dick saw his circus burned down, everyone in his apartment building killed, a woman shot in the head just for sitting across from him, all simply because these innocent people crossed his path, and him feeling guilty and responsible for each of their deaths because of this.
Fandom: ...yeah but wasn’t it kinda a little bit his fault? I mean, if he didn’t exist, they wouldn’t have died, y’know?
Dick found out that his direct ancestor is an undead assassin for a secret society intent on ruling Gotham from the shadows, and that he was intended by them to be another of their tools since before he was even born, and the circus he loves and remembers fondly from growing up there was complicit in the conspiracy to force him into a life of servitude to the Court of Owls as their personal assassin.
Fandom: ....ugh I just hate how everyone always makes a big deal about Dick Grayson, like he’s gotta be the most special ever, eww.
Dick was battered and guilt tripped by his father into going undercover away from his family for a year immediately following his death and revival, with the rest of his family believing him dead and blaming him for this upon his return.
Fandom: ....like we’re supposed to feel bad for a guy who faked his death and made his family all mourn him while he was off playing James Bond? Pfft.
Dick has lost siblings at various points and grieved for them over extended periods, being extremely affected by their deaths.
Fandom: ...umm, he literally hated Jason though, according to the fact that we said so, and yeah he was sad about Damian dying but then he faked his death so we had to stop caring because fuck that guy.
Dick has struggled with abandonment issues, fear of disappointing Bruce and other related issues, such as his own ongoing battle with people trying to make him into a killer and his own repeated struggle with whether or not he believes its never justified, such as when he killed the Joker.
Fandom: ....that didn’t count, though.
Dick was tortured on multiple occasions, almost to the point of death.
Fandom: ...source?
Dick was left to fend for himself in multiple instances where he’d been there for his family in similar situations.
Fandom: .....mmmm, sounds fake.
Dick was estranged from Bruce for years after being fired, and again after Jason died, with Bruce never reaching out or apologizing in either instance and their estrangement only ending when Dick extended the olive branch and came back.
Fandom: ...oh boohoo. Drama queen.
Dick had to find out from the news that Bruce adopted another kid and also gave him Dick’s mantle, as well as find out from computer files that his brother died, because Bruce never deemed it necessary to inform him of any of these things.
Fandom: ...jeez Dick, sometimes, things aren’t about you. What a narcissist.
Dick’s entire city is blown up by supervillains.
Fandom: .....uh, pretty sure we’d remember that happening.
Dick’s subjected to constant sexual harassment by Dr. Netz while working for Spyral.
Fandom: ....didn’t see it. Sorry. Was busy laughing at Dr. Netz’s jokes about sexually harassing Dick. Look, they were funny, okay?
Dick was raped, not once but twice.
Fandom: .....ALRIGHT! NOW we’re talking! Tell me more, I mean, fuck, that’s so sad and tragic, I wanna know all the details. Who was it, why did they do it, how many times, did Jason kill them like the good brother he is or was it traumatizing for Tim and Damian to learn that the brother they looked up to was subjected to something like this? DETAILS, MAN, DETAILS.
Dick is frequently written as the focal point of fics wherein a villain graphically rapes him in addition to the rapes he endured in canon, but in far more specific and traumatizing ways and with the vast majority of fics having this villain be male and in a vast majority of those fics, the rapes rendered in ways that are sexually gratifying and titillating even in scenes emphasizing the emotional devastation the actual actions inflict on Dick.
Fandom: ....not sure I see the issue, bro.
Me: One of these things is not like the others.
Fandom: ....still not seeing it.
Me: Its almost like there’s only one specific kind of trauma many of you are willing to consider Dick an actual victim for suffering....
Fandom: ....okay but its not our fault literally none of the other things count.
Me: .....and the way many people write this specific kind of trauma being inflicted on him in particular, lends the impression that even here its still not about sympathizing with him so much as enjoying the acts inflicted on him and the emotional distress they cause him.
Fandom: ....nah. LOL.

BNHA Rewatch: Episode 27 “Bizarre! Gran Torino Appears!”
mysterylover123
The Internship arc starts off with a bang! Let’s see that Full Cowl, Deku!
SORA NI UTAEBA! While the song in this intro is kinda meh to me, the visuals are amazing. I love the symbolism for all the events of the ep - tho not gonna lie, this core’s ED is better than the OP. Anyway tho, go punch that wall Deku!
We start with Gran Torino pretending to be crazy. I’ll admit, I’m kinda eh on this bit, though I love Gran. It’s probably because I found it annoying when Yoda did it, so I find it annoying here as well. (It’s really just my inner fangirl talking. Nobody makes Deku unhappy except Kacchan. Who can get away with it.)
But actually, this sets up an interesting difference between Deku and Luke, though admittedly situation isn’t the same because Deku knows Gran is Gran. But Deku’s response to this is to call All Might to tell him Gran’s gone senile. He’s so empathetic Deku why aren’t you real? (no shade at Luke there,e I love him too. Just not as much).
“I don’t have time to mess around.” Deku did not come to play.
New costume! It’s incredible how much better it is than the old one. Like, not even funny how much better. Day-um, Deku.
Pfh Gran knows exactly how to piss off Deku: Insult All Might. You clever little scoundrel.
So onto Deku’s character flaws: 1. He’s overly analytical. Deku doesn’t know how to act quickly, partially due to circumstance, but partially that’s just how he is. Hesitant. Over-cautious, over-thinks things. He needs to learn how to take action - and in this arc, he does indeed do so without hesitation, and saves Iida’s life by so-doing. Box 1 checked off.
2. Deku admires All Might too much. Like every MC in BNHA, his Imitation is the Sincerest Form of Tragedy (insert me telling you to read that essay again). It’s a problem because he doesn’t believe in himself. So he needs to learn not to imitate All Might and be his own hero. That one doesn’t really sink in until the PLE arc. But check.
3. Deku is insecure. He has a massive inferiority complex (which fits nicely into his foil’s inf-sup complex, wouldn’t-cha-know) and doesn’t believe in himself. So he needs to learn to be more confident. (Is it wrong that I want this to end with him breaking through Instrumentality to a chorus of his friends saying ‘Congratulations’?)
Gran is my favorite Teacher, as a teacher, in BNHA. I’m a teaching-major, and I kinda aspire to his techniques. What I love the most is helping students figure it out themselves. Just telling someone the answer doesn’t help them. It’s so satisfying seeing a student make that breakthrough thanks to your guidance.
Now we’re cutting away to Iida’s internship to remind you Iida Wants Revenge. This is a little exposition-y, let’s cut somewhere else.
OK good, the villains! Right off the bat, we’ve got some great Parallels with the Heroes, as Tomura decides to basically Intern with a Pro-Villain. He even calls Stain a pro. Tho Tomura really needs to work on his recruitment strategy. “Stain join us. Cause.” “Bakugou. Join us. Cause”.
I want Deku and Tomura to build a grand Hero-Villain rivalry. Tomura basically hates him for no real reason right now, and I want there to be a good reason. Other than “He’s All Might’s successor”. I want them to be the Joker and Batman of BNHA with a real complex hero-villain rivalry, where one reflects the other. They’re getting there but I want more.
“Bloodlust without conviction is meaningless.” Ooh I love me some Stain. He really elevated this series’ philosophical side with his ramblings on heroism and villainy.
OK am I creeped out by the fact that All for One just said the same thing I did about learning? A little.
Deku is so brilliant and such a fast learner tho. It doesn’t take him long to put it all together. And Gran actually really admires him for that - I enjoy their mentor dynamic a lot, since Gran has some real respect for Midoriya in a different way from All Might.
Bakugou with Best Jeanist! OMG the comedy gold of this. Though I just want to take a sec to gripe about a change from the manga to the anime: Manga! Bakugou does not charge at Best Jeanist and yell at him. He’s not dumb enough to try that on the #4 Pro Hero and his teacher. He sits still and listens to Jeanist’s lecture. The only Bakugo line here that’s from the manga is “Didn’t you make an offer for me?” This completely changes the way we perceive Bakugo in this scene, and in general. Bad change.
But in Good Storytelling-ville, I like the continuing parallels between the Wonder duo this creates: Izuku interns in a rundown neighborhood with an unlisted hero, Bakugo in Tokyo with a top pro. Izuku needs to learn to control his power and believe in himself. Katsuki needs to learn to be kinder and more humble. Izuku learns his lesson her, Katsuki doesn’t. Parallels!
Kirishima and Tetsutetsu again! 4th kind is ok. He’s probably the least memorable of the internship pros, since his gimmick is simple and his design kinda dull.
Uraraka and Gunhead! I love how well they get along. He’s kawaii and she’s a hardcore badass. Don’t you forget it!
Now for more of Momo’s arc. The Uwabami internship is usually dismissed by fans as Just Fanservice, but think about it in context, and it becomes really interesting. One, the Hero Killer arc is about Stain protesting the commercialization of heroism, so we do need to have a Pro-Hero demonstrate the problematic nature of that commercialism. Uwabami does just that. Two, we need to have Momo’s internship be unfulfilling to her, to complete her downward trajectory (before the Final Exam arc can bring her back up), so it’s useful for further embarrassing and developing her character. 3, it sets up Momo and Kendo’s future rivalry.
I’ll take more about it in future eps where it appears.
Izuku practicing and constantly hitting his face on the wall is one of those things that makes me wonder if either a) he has a secret endurance quirk or b) OFA just naturally ups your durability. How does he still have a face after that.
Here’s a hot take: Izuku with his face smashed up from spending a night with no sleep training in garbage all night is still prettier than any other guy in this series.
One of the reviewers I follow made the comparison between All Might vs Deku’s using of OFA and Korra vs Aang’s role as the Avatar. You know, All Might and Korra, both master the power pretty quickly so they get to be strong fast but lose out on the spiritual connection a bit, while Deku and Aang take their time learning ofa/the four elements, but get as a tradeoff more of the spirit-y side...(ATLA & BNHA. My 2 favorite shows, alongside FMA. I swear these are like, three sides of the same show).
While I’m watching in the Sub this time around, i wanted to note a dub-ism in this scene: it’s localized to ‘hot pastries’ instead of taiyaki. There’s a lot of bits like that, where they take Japanese food and translate it for us dumb Americans. But well, maybe that made sense in the 90s, when there maybe wasn’t as much cultural crossover, but...even I knew what mochi were before watching BNHA (Uraraka’s fave, and the dub always localizes it to ‘sweets’) and everyone has google if they’re confused so why not just say ‘Taiyaki?’ Ah well, it’s a stupid nitpick but still.
Gran’s metaphor here is so great. As a teacher I aspire to learn from this man. Teach me your teaching ways.
“THIS TAIYAKI IS ME!!!!!” Another dub-ism has him say “I’m not really a dessert” I saw a reactor once comment on this ‘Yeah, but you are a snacc, Deku.’ I wholeheartedly agree.
FULL COWLLLLLLL!!!!!!! FYEAH!!!!!
OK so there are a lot of reasons I love Full Cowl. it’s one of the series’ finest moments, emblematic of what makes it cool. And what makes Deku cool. He’s smart, and has to work his way around problems, and this solution was just...it was there, for us and Izuku the whole time, to finally sit up and take notice of. It’s about applying power in a different way. About taking what you can do and doing the best you can with what you’ve got. A big central theme for the series.
Also dayum that slow pan up Deku’s entire body as he activates it...he just looks good in this arc. Actually, post-cavalry battle Deku in the sports festival arc always looks weird and odd (because he’s beat up and in pain, duh) and prior to that he was mainly just adorable...this arc, however, is his official transition into Best Boy for Reals. He’s just...swoony. and also really cool, smart, and all sorts of great fangirl-y things.
We end on a confident Deku smile and Daiki’s adorable ‘hai.’ Basically, i really enjoy this episode. A little slow at the beginning, maybe. But that conclusion is amazing and so worth the payoff. It’s even got this amazing rhyme and rhythm to it, cutting back and forth between the different students and teachers and just having themes echo between each other like poetry. It love it.
To close off: ED4, AKA BEST ED EVER!!!! This is seriously, no sarcasm, best ED. So for those of you who don’t know, the story behind ED4 Datte Atashi no Hero is, 1: The Fantasy AU theme comes from the second popularity poll, which came out around Chapter 120/Episode 61 (yes, THAT one) and for which Horikoshi drew the top 10 in fantasy garb. 2: The Song was written by LiSa and was explicitly stated by her to be effectively about Izuku’s feelings towards Kacchan. I wrote a post analyzing it. It is, basically, the anthem for...
BKDK CORNER
“Loose…” Guess who the first person Deku thinks of to create Full Cowling is? If you sad Kacchan, ding-ding-ding!
On an analytical note, I think it’s very, very significant that the first real breakthrough Deku makes in handling his power comes by observing Kacchan and imitating him. This is one of my Top 20 Favorite BKDK moments, even though it’s completely indirect, because of how important that is in the long-run. But what about the Imitation theme? Why is it OK for Izuku to imitate Katsuki, but not All Might? Well, first of all, he does use Gran Torino’s moves as well, but mainly, I think the series is saying with this distinction that it’s OK to imitate someone if you see their flaws and acknowledge them, but if you hero-worship them and see them as perfect, you’re only going to screw yourself over. This is why Iida imitating Ingenium, Shoto imitating his mom, Deku and Kacchan imitating All Might, and yes, Uraraka imitating Deku, are all so bad for them. If you see someone as perfect, and want to imitate them, you’ll never achieve that in your mind, because you already view yourself as imperfect. So Deku can imitate Katsuki because he thinks he’s a jerk, but also an amazing fighter, and Gran because he thinks he’s weird, but tough.
Also Deku just automatically thinking of Kacchan first is so damn shippy.
BEST GIRL OF THE EPISODE: Uwabami!
RANKER: Ranking the Internship Pros, least helpful to most.
10. Uwabami
9. Mt. Lady
8. 4th Kind
7. Endeavor
6. Death Arms
5. Manual
4. Selkie and Sirius (anime only)
3. Gunhead
2. Best Jeanist

Angel plays persona 5, Part....uhhh...four?
It's been a while and I am bad at keeping track of things so let's just say this is part four and move on with our lives.
((Tw: abuse))
1: I've noticed that charming thieves seem to be a common trope in Japanese media. It keeps cropping up, and I'm interested in the culture behind it.
2: If I recal right, the student council president is blackmailing us. I think she's going to join us. New Persona?? NEW RIPPING MASK OFF/BLOOD SPEW SCENE??? I AM THOU, THOU ART I! I AM THOU!! THOU ART I!!!
3: Light Yagami continues to be a presence in our lives and I'm just over here waiting for the potato chips
4: Drugs! Drugs are happening! We're gonna take down the mob! I feel like the politician guy is gonna be our last palace so I wonder who we're gonna get between now and then.
5: Gosh Art Guy's pretty. I like his voice. Can he just...read a book for five hours?
((Still squicked out by the Anne arch tho.))
((Its very unfortunate))
6: Look I wanna make friends with all the people so I can get stronger personas and abilities. I do. But asking me to throw 5000 yen at the one lady every few nights is a bit much. I WANT GEAR FOR THE PALICES DAMN IT AND YOU'RE NOT EVEN CLEANING THE ROOM LIKE YOU KEEP SAYING YOU WILL. I JUST WANT A NICE ROOM BUT THE GAME WONT LET ME DO SHIT TO IT.
7: Holy shit she comes over and between big wide puppy eyes she starts complaining about her students why the fuck are you a teacher if all you're gonna do is whine over having to deal with kids. You could have any other job. Anything's better than taking your anger out on teenagers just trying to go to school and live their life.
8: On a lighter note, I feel like the bad things happening over town are the work of another personia user. Only they're destroying the people whose palices they infiltrate. And I'm looking directly at Light Yagami because, while I dont have the context, I know he winds up being a bad.
9: I know exactly what my persona would look like/act like. What I really wanna know is what my palace would be.
Unfortunately you cant have both because having a persona means you cant have a palace.
And honistly I'd rather a persona than a palace because holy shit palaces are bad.
((Asking the real questions here, can you fuck your persona? Is it masterbation? They're a representation of your own inner self, but they're also not necessarily You.))
10: Gosh art guy is pretty. He is very aesthetically pleasing. I love the color scheme, those blues and purples, and dat asmr voice. Wow.
11: THE NEXT PALICE. IS A BANK??
12: AHAHAHAH WE ARE THIEVES INFULTRATING A PERSONS HEART WHICH LOOKS LIKE A BANK
Someone play the mission impossible theme.
Omg can the next palace be a train so we can pull a train heist??
13: Holy shit detective lady just fucking
Lashed out at the student council president for trying to ask a sister bonding question
Oh my gosh "you're useless to me, all you do is eat away at my life"
That's so uncalled for!
She's not useless oh my god.
14: GOOD JOB DETECTIVE LADY YOU JUST PUSHED YOUR SISTER INTO THROWING HERSELF AT THE MOB
15: Save student council present. Save her. Give her hugs, and a sandwich, and nice words, and get her the fuck away from detective lady.
16: YOU RUINED YOUR SISTERS SENSE OF SELF WORTH TO THE POINT THAT SHE THREW HERSELF AT THE FUCKING MOB BECAUSE SHE WANTED TO BE USEFUL
Joker
Hey Joker
Fucking
Take this opportunity to tear into the detective lady
All these cutaways to the interrogation
Let me yell at her for this
Plz
17: YOU DONT CALL YOUR SISTER USELESS
YOU DONT TREAT HER LIKE SHE OWS YOU SOME GREAT DEBT FOR EXISTING
SHE WAS JUST TRYING TO HAVE AN ADULT CONVERSATION WITH YOU AND YOU FUCKING TORE HER APART
IF YOU WERE TIRED THEN FUCKING SAY YOU'RE TIRED AND HAVE THE CONVERSATION LATER
"I'm gonna eat out from now on..."
OH GREAT!! GUILT HER! PUNISH HER FOR EXISTING BY REMOVING YOUR PRESENSE FROM HER LIFE!! USE YOUR LACK OF ATTENTION AS A METHOD OF PUNISHMENT!
I am unspeakably angry at this holy shit.
Holy shit.
I did not expect emotional and verbal abuse to happen and wow I am legitimately angry
Game did a good job at portraying it 10/10 great job but fucking ouch that hit a nerve
18: Woah. Student council president personna is a mortar bike!!!
She's all spiky and goth!
Woo!!
19: I'm waiting for the moment we find out Morgana actually is a cat and is the super secret final boss that only friendship can save.

Master List Update
I...didn’t even realize how much crap I’ve written since the last one >.< Also didn’t realize what a pain in the ass it was to click on when you’re on mobile. Here’s one that’s a little easier, I hope.

This is the amalgamation of comments from Fracture. A whole what if Tim didn’t forgive them and go back? Au. It’s right after the epic planning of Red Robin to keep Ra’s al Ghul from killing everyone Batman loves from the Red Robin series. This was seriously a try at the whole Omegaverse thing. I write it on it occasionally when I get asks and whatnot. Premise: Tim is making his way back to the Bats after a little hiatus after he lost the Robin mantle and brought back B from time. He’s in Gotham being part of the crew when his suppressants might have…worn off and the scent of a male Omega in heat makes the Bats a little more than concerned. To make matters worse, he gets a little more than he bargained for when Dick follows him back to Titan’s Tower to take care of his pack’s Omega.

44. Best piece of feedback you’ve ever gotten.
Have to say Wolffang91 doing Fanart for my fan-fictions totally made my life! Like seriously I fucking cried and even have her Yesterday Got Away art that she did for me hanging on my wall in my apartment! Seriously best feeling in the world!
As far as comments go. Boy oh boy. Honestly every good comment I have ever gotten is a treasure to me and has helped kept me motivated with my writing. Seriously I love every single person who actually enjoy my writing and they all are absolutely wonderful people!
I can name a few of my favorite comments though. That just made my heart flutter, but honestly all are great.
But here’s a few of them:
On my Fanfic: The Bench by OhMyGlobWhatthefrickamievendoing
NONE OF THIS WAS O K A Y ? ? ? ? ? I C R I E D . I HAD TO STOP READING THRICE , THRICE ,BECAUSE THE GODDAMNED SCREEN STARTED TO BLUR. I HAD TO STARE AT THE CEILING SO THE TEARS WOULDN’T DRIP DOWN. MY THROAT IS STILL CLOGGED I’M SO FUCKING EMOTIONAL HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME THIS WAS SO FUCKING BEAUTIFUL AND I WASN’T PREPARED FOR ANY OF IT.
(Seriously that made me happy that I could have someone get such an emotional reaction to my writing)
On my Fanfic: It’s Hard Saying Goodbye by melody1987
Um…I just…I’m gonna just gather up all these shattered pieces of my heart and go.
This hurt like hell but was worth it thank you for the pain
(Given how much I love this artist! Like seriously go and look at their art it’s so fucking beautiful! Also they write amazing fanfic’s as well. It made me squeal that they liked my little one shot and I swear I almost died when I saw the comment)
For my Fanfic: Grin and Bare It (on Ff.net instead of Ao3)Youre a writing god :oI like long reviews myself, so Ill be detailed: Joker x Batman isnt my thing, but this is so realistic, so believable, and so I cant stop reading. Your writing style is very interesting, the way you form sentences isnt what Im used too. Every sentence is so detailed and elaborate, not as simple as Im used too. The dark atmosphere of the story is something I hadnt realized I wanted. I enjoy fluff as much as the next guy, but I do occasionally prefer more mature things. This, though, is on a completely different level. The content itself is so surreal, so… twisted? In a good way of course. The masochistic, sexual scene with the joker was pretty damn messed up in the best way. Im not surprised that he likes the Bat (As he said; tall, dark, handsome. Who wouldnt want that?) But the way you mesh his insanity, obsession, and emotions makes his picture of love a horrifyingly glorious thing to witness.I cant wait to read more, this is so intense, so awesome! I truly hope Batman sanity and morals survives this game :o I cant bare the thought of him killing anyone, he just wouldnt be the symbol he was anymore. I honestly dont care how dark the content gets, as long as theres a happy ending, Ill be relieved. Looking forward to more~
(Long comments are great comments and always make me happy ^_^)
My Fanfic: Out Of Sight by KenyaKetchup
This is so good. Omg so good. Idk what it is about Sans being trash, but trying not to be trash (but still being total trash tho) that I love so much. But I love it.
Sans! You sick trash. ♡
(Given their fanfic Creep made me fall in love with the Frans pairing in the first place! Seeing this comment made me almost die from sheer happiness alone!)
These are just a few of my favorites, there are just to many that I love, but like I said earlier each comment is a joy to me and any feedback really helps me continue being able to produce fanfics for anyone who would care enough to read them. ^_^

Smokey brand Movie Reviews: Shine On
I’m a huge fan of Stephen King. He’s actually one of my favorite modern writers. Anne Rice is another and, interestingly enough, falls into the same pratfalls as King. While i think he’s a great writer, he tends to ramble a bit in his narrative. Dude let’s his creativity get the better of him and you end up with unnecessary scenes like the juvenile gangbang in IT. He’s gotten better at creating a thorough-line in his narratives as he’s gotten older, but the film adaptions of his books tend to do a fantastic job of that focus outright. One of my favorite films is the scripted version of Carrie White’s tragedy. I adore that movie and even have a soft spot for it’s remake. But my favorite translation of King’s work belongs to the goddamn Shining. The Shining is a cinematic masterpiece and, interestingly enough, both hated by kind and not even a proper adaption of his work! So it’s wild to me that he would revisit this universe with a sequel in Doctor Sleep. I’m looking forward to seeing how this adaption continues this dark narrative.
The Good
First and foremost, I just need to express how well this thing has been directed Mike Flanagan. I knew he was something special with what he did with Oculus and his run on The Haunting of Hill House but Doctor Sleep is a goddamn masterstroke. It’s not as good as the Shining, you can’t catch Kubrick, but it’s damn close. This film feels like that, it emulates that spirit but is still, legitimately, it’s own animal. I adore it. Flanagan has an eye for horror and I’m looking forward to his next project.
Doctor Sleep has some of the best writing i have ever seen in a King adaption. Usually, his works lose a little something in that department when translated to cinema. It’s hard to capture a faithful facsimile of a professional writer’s dialogue and tone when you’re trying to produce a profitable, Hollywood, project. Thing is, Flanagan strikes again! This dude is everything on this project; Writer, director, editor. His reach is profound but necessary to capture a uniform spirit
This movie is gorgeous, man. Each shot can be considered a goddamn work of art. The muted tones with the occasional, vibrant splash are absolutely spectacular. Doctor Sleep isn’t a scary film at all but it is unnerving and that feeling of dread has been captured perfectly within each frame while never once negating it’s beauty.
But this sound design, tho. I usually never talk about this stuff because it’s inconsequential but one of the things that made the original Shining such a pressing experience was the subtly insidious chorus ramping up the horror onscreen. Doctor Sleep captures that same stress with it’s own background notes, even if it’s a little more subdued.
The casting in this thing is superb. Being a sequel to the original Shining and having vivid flashbacks to that period, t was necessary to bring back certain characters. However, Scatman Crothers is dead and Shelley Duvall is out of her goddamn mind, so it was necessary to recast these pivotal parts. To see Wendy, Hallorann, and young Danny after so many years as a true treat, even if they had new faces. Cliff Curtis was also a pleasant surprised. Also, I mean, it’s just dope seeing Alex Essoe getting more work after Starry Eyes. I loved that movie and she was spectacular in it.
Speaking of casting, I’d be remiss if i didn’t mention how goddamn perfect Rebecca Ferguson was as Rose the Hat. My goodness, was she powerful in this role. She’s cruel in the most subtle of ways but amazingly beautiful at the same time. Not physically, she is gorgeous in general, but i meant there is a grace to her brutality that is just too sweet. She has this weird, mad hippie, Manson-esque, energy that just bleeds from her character. That’s hard to pull of as an actor. That subtle, disgusting, side of humanity that we always just try to ignore? To bring it out with that unassuming charm? Bro, Ferguson’s Rose the Hat is one of the most psychological terrifying villains I’ve ever seen on film.
Ewan McGregor as an adult Danny Torrence does a decent job. I can’t say this is one of his strongest performances but i think that has more to do with the subdued nature of the character and not Obi-Wan’s ability. Grown Danny is a man that hurts and he has internalized that hurt for years. It appears to be difficult for him to interact with people and i think the journey out of that darkness is the story of this film. Or, at least, that’s what it feels like to me. Master Kenobi does an admirable job of portraying that fragility onscreen but i think the Danny character, as a whole, could have been a bit more fleshed out.
Kyliegh Curran is pretty dope as Abra Stone, the torchbearer of the Shining universe. Her character takes over for Danny and being the most powerful Shiner in the series so far, there is a plethora of stories to tell about this character and i am legitimately salivating at the prospect. And Kyliegh was absolutely instrumental in giving that character so much life.
Doctor Sleep left me wanting more. I want more of this universe. I want more of these characters. I want more of Abra and her crusade. This world is profound and there is a plethora of material to grow wonderful narratives. I mean, the lore here is so rich and the way you can articulate this in different media can stretch from the painfully surreal to the wildly abstract. With a create at the helm, someone with real vision, the world of The Shining is a goddamn playground!
The Bad
Literally the only bad thing about this film i noticed was it’s lack of commitment. This is,most definitely, a sequel to Kubrick’s Shining but it takes elements from King’s book and kind of mashes them in there. It tries to legitimize what came before it with the original vision from the text and, at times, that can be a little much. It’s not enough to distract from the awesome experience just something that i noticed.
There is a lot of exposition in this movie. I watched the director’s cut which ended up being an extra thirty minutes so there’s a ton more information to be seen. I’m not sure if this is a problem with the theatrical version but even that was two and a half hours long so maybe? I might watch that version to see the difference between the two but after putting in three hours with this version, that might be a while.
Again, this is probably because of the version I’ve seen, but the pacing is a little plodding at times. For me, the film, itself, never drags but i can see how this can be an issue with regular audiences. Look, if a wonderful film like Joker can be derided for “having nothing happen” then this one is definitely in that same vein. Personally, i don’t think any of these gripes are that big a deal, especially this one. This film is very methodical and it lends to the narrative very well. But, i figure i should mention it because it seems like an issue that might crop up.
The Verdict
Doctor Sleep is an interesting take on the source material. It’s a legitimate sequel to King’s Shining book but takes so many beats from Kubrick’s film, it’s ridiculous. I’m not mad at that juxtaposition at all, i love Kubrick’s work and Flanagan has been a savant when adapting King’s work in his own right, but i can see how this might be a deal-breaker for the purists. Doctor Sleep is the closest thing to a perfect Stephen Kin adaption out there, with IT: Chapter One maybe taking the title on the strength of it’s performances, but this film is a close second. It’s uncannily surreal at times, unnerving, and unsettling. There’s no horror to be had here, which is more in line with the film version of The Shining than the book, but there is just SO much exposition, at times it does feel like you’re watching a novel. till, it’s gorgeous to see, deftly performed, and masterfully directed. Doctor Sleep, if you love cinema or have the patience, is well worth the time to see. I highly recommend this film, even is you’re not a King fan. It’s a hell of a ride, even if it takes a bit to get going, you’re going to love where you end up.
