Kuw*ma Romantic Rowing AU

This is chock full of late series spoilers so I'll be putting it under a cut since one of the besties ( @thedragonchilde ) is newly interested in possibly watching Y*H!

This is one of my slightly longer and slightly more thought out Quick and Disorganized AU Idea posts so if you like my AU Shenanigans this is definitely one to check out!

What if Kaz*ma was on the rowing team in college instead?????

He's got all this time now that he's not tangled up in Spirit World affairs! He may as well put it to good use while staying in shape and ready just in case!

And it's a great back and chest and shoulder and arm and core workout which is perfect for keeping his sword-wielding muscles active and ready (along with weekly training in sword forms to keep skills sharp).

What if Kaz*ma helps his team go to the international championship in 1995 in Tampere, Finland?

What if Kur*ma was studying abroad in Europe that year and decided to go visit him???

What if the crushes/affection they've harbored suddenly Spark because Kaz*ma is old enough for Kur*ma not to feel so guilty about it all anymore?

What if Kaz*ma is the one that actually makes the first move this time around?

He's had enough time and experience outside of their group and with more men and women to have more confidence?

And he feels like Kur*ma would be able to field -and if needed blow off- any advances that he makes while still easily maintaining their friendship, so he has the confidence and drive to pursue?!?!?!?!

What if the initial hints and flirtations go well???

What if he's spent years memorizing flower language and buys the most expensive bouquet of his life (up to that point)???

What if they go on a series of romantic dates and become a couple?!?!?!?!?!

What if a year later Kaz*ma does research on SAFE and Beautiful bodies of water in Makai and he opens a portal and wrangles Yus*ke into helping him carry a dingy and oars and gear through the portal and then kicks Yus*ke out so he can set up on his own. (Yus*ke of course is very supportive but loves poking fun at them and making terrible dirty jokes about what he assumes Kaz*ma plans to do to Kur*ma that has Kaz*ma going red and swinging an oar at him to banish him through the portal while also thanking him for helping with the dingy.

What if Yus*ke had helped by making and packing a nice dessert for their picnic?!?!?!?!

What if he covered it up saying it was his lunch or something?

What if Kaz*ma finds it and a cute heartfelt but simple note from Yus*ke saying he's happy for them and Kaz*ma better not fuck this up! (He's got a feeling Kur*ma is likely planning to step up the level of their relationship too).

GOD WHAT IF KAZ*MA SPENDS ALL EARLY MORNING GATHERING FLOWERS AND FILLING THE DINGY AND GETTING EVERYTHING SET UP AND THE AREA WARDED BEFORE HE OPENS A PORTAL TO MEET KUR*MA AT HIS OFFICE FOR THEIR LUNCH DATE????

Kaz*ma knows Kur*ma can just like, take a half day if he feels like it. So him not coming back after lunch is more of a call to his step-dad's secretary than anything.

(Kur*ma will claim illness/food poisoning and ask that no one checks up on him until the next day please because he just wants to rest! - Kaz*ma opens a portal for cell reception)

God what if they have a super romantic date thats so sweet and then have really hot makeouts and maybe more on the shore and then Kur*ma like Proposes to Kaz*ma?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

And then what was gonna be the hottest and most romantic weekend date he's ever planned turns into the setting for his own engagement right after the sun sets and the stars are staring to be visible?

Kur*ma likely had something special planned of his own but Kaz*ma is such a huge romantic that this honestly blows whatever Kur*ma was planning clear out of the water. (He'll still be using it for his own romantic date plans with Kaz*ma though! No need to let any planning go to waste!)

I was at a bookstore looking through the art section and I saw a spine that said The Camden Town Nudes which was interesting because this didn’t seem like the bookstore where I would ever find something like that and I wanted to have a casual look but like. This also wasn’t exactly the bookstore where you felt like you could look at naked pictures let alone just suggestive paintings of them, it’s a really small shop as well, so I was like right I’ll just take a quick peek, I’m an art student, I love history, maybe I’ll buy it. I looked both ways and saw the shopkeep had left momentarily and no one was about, so I opened it and found it was an entire book featuring nude Edwardian women all painted by Walter Sickert between 1905-1912 and it was actually quite a revolutionary set of paintings for its time given that it featured very raw depictions of working class nude women in dark London instead of the elegant, white bedsheet clad, Demure middle and upper class women usually depicted.

And of course RIGHT as I flip to this lady’s boobs practically taking up an entire double page spread, every customer in a 5 mile radius appeared from around the corners of the shelf including the shopkeep and immediately regressing to a wet, pathetic Edwardian man from 1908, startled, I dropped the large book which caused a giant SLAP on the floor in this already silent store thus causing all patrons to look down at me scrambling on my knees to close a giant book of Edwardian boobs and let me tell you it would not have been nearly as funny had I not immediately felt like some Edwardian local pervert who just tried to sneak a cheeky peek at the erotic book in the bookstore only to drop it dramatically causing a scene, red up to his ears trying to shove it back on the shelf. Like such a casual and normal thing in modern day but looking at Edwardian women suddenly turned it into this egregious act as I apparently became possessed by the spirit of a moustached man in a bowler hat and morning coat going Good Heavens I mustn’t gaze upon these images in public lest the constable haul me away!

Idk how to tell you but I think you're a pillar of the community.

One of my biggest nitpicks in fiction concerns the feeding of babies. Mothers dying during/shortly after childbirth or the baby being separated form the mother shortly after birth is pretty common in fiction. It is/was also common enough in real life, which is why I think a lot of writers/readers don't think too hard about this. however. Historically, the only reason the vast majority of babies survived being separated from their mother was because there was at least one other woman around to breastfeed them. Before modern formula, yes, people did use other substitutes, but they were rarely, if ever, nutritionally sufficient.

Newborns can't eat adult food. They can't really survive on animal milk. If your story takes place in a world before/without formula, a baby separated from its mother is going to either be nursed by someone else, or starve.

It doesn't have to be a huge plot point, but idk at least don't explicitly describe the situation as excluding the possibility of a wetnurse. "The father or the great grandmother or the neighbor man or the older sibling took and raised the baby completely alone in a cave for a year." Nope. That baby is dead I'm sorry. "The baby was kidnapped shortly after birth by a wizard and hidden away in a secret tower" um quick question was the wizard lactating? "The mother refused to see or touch her child after birth so the baby was left to the care of the ailing grandfather" the grandfather who made the necessary arrangements with women in the neighborhood, right? right? OR THAT GREAT OFFENDER "A newborn baby was left on the doorstep and they brought it in and took care of it no issues" What Are You Going to Feed That Baby. Hello?

Like. It's not impossible, but arrangements are going to have to be made. There are some logistics.

Despite that, in his own way, he’s as gentle as can be with his league. Give me a young Diana who’s getting spat on and ripped apart by the media in a way not one of her male teammates get.

And she’s Wonder Woman. She shouldn’t be affected by it. And she is, anyway. Bruce relates to that in an uncomfortable degree.

Give me somewhat teen mom Bruce who struggles to wrangle his unruly six year old who likes flipping from rooftop to rooftop and thinks fighting Bane is a piece of cake.

“Dick,” he paused, before handing him a handfull of candy. “Wonderful emotional manipulation. Good job.”

betraying someone who trusts them deeply is one of the sexiest things a character can do its unparalleled. cause either the relationship is irrevocably changed and said character is completely at fault (guilt complex, hot) or it isnt and then both sides have to deal with the fact that they care about each other enough to overlook the betrayal (unceasing devotion, also hot)
