sorry if you've already mentioned but what (re?)ignited your love of comics/x-men/cherik? curious because there are so many different adaptations of them

i think im gonna speak for a few (or a lot of) people when i say that TL;DR the wolverine x deadpool movie that came out this summer is what pulled me back into comics and i COULD leave it there but i will go into excruciating and unnecessary detail instead because i love an origin story and i love oversharing.

ironically (and probably commonly), growing up i was more of an avengers kid. Kinda. Loosely <- binge watched the cartoons and movies and read copious amounts of comics and fics and i am hoarding fanart in my old dresser as we speak ok 'loosely' is a modest lie.

embarrassingly i remember getting into discus cause of captain america LMAO so yeah needless to say i was a Humble Fan- me joining my school's comic class/club didnt help either (shoutout to my teach from that she was the realest one out there for. A Multitude of reasons). she definitely is was inspires me to even draw still and make comics and i often think bout the tips i learned from her class tbh she was great

back to the movies t and comics tho, i got into em because my brother would offer to take me and that's how we'd hang out (i rarely saw movies in theaters and i even more rarely went anywhere as a teenager. still kinda like that today tbh ooops) and yk. it just snowballed after that.

my brother and i have always liked comics- he just more than me for a while (though he still very much loves comics and As We Know From My Posts we still talk about them whenever i see him To An Exhausting Degree)

as a kid i only remember seeing the 'perfection' scene between erik and raven in first class while i was channel surfing. pretty sure i changed the channel after seeing mystique naked cause i was scared my parents would get mad at me if they caught me watching it LOL

BUT MOVING ON As A Kid i think it's also natural you'll sometimes watch 92 if it's on And I Did though evidently it didn't stick too hard (i do remember really liking beast and gambit though.... still do really): my knowledge of x-men was. INCREDIBLY sparse. like diabolically so so i didnt have too much expectations (aside from the fact i vaguely liked deadpool beforehand).

tbh i dont know why my bro never took me to see any of the x-men movies. it's not like he doesn't Also like x-men (90% sure nightcrawler's his favorite but my brother will be caught dead saying he has absolute favorites like that)- he owns a bitch load of deadpool comics/omnibus sets too (of which ive read over the years and reread this year) but Shrug moving on

and so. As I Do. i got curious and told myself i'd binge watch all the x-men movies the week before i went back to school And Then I Did ft. My Brother Sometimes and then i said i'd binge watch all of '92 and And I Did That ft. My Brother Sometimes But Less So and now we're here. currently watching Evolution...

once i got to school i realized i lived near a comic shop and started getting into the comics that way (the first ones i got since going down this rabbit hole was Magneto Was Right!, The Resurrection of Magneto, and The Trial of Magneto. if you were curious !!!!! clearly i didnt care too much about context i just needed to see My Guy jelvejlkvj i have no regrets and Evidently ive read more since)

i'm pretty sure what dragged me into cherik specifically was the fact i saw a clip of The Famous ending to 92 where erik's aghast at the notion jean even has to question his love for charles. i think that was what officially had me refocus my lens on them: not a single poolverine thought after that LOL (all the cherik posting i saw on twitter definitely helped too but that was the nail in the coffin for any other interests i had: i was locked into cherik and x-men in general now)

that clip specifically, i was surprised at the fact they- frequently even- have the x-men franchise say erik loves charles and vice versa so bluntly. even if it's not meant to be romantic, i fear im just a fan of how casually the word's thrown around with them two and i got tender bout it all. Then Yk. i just live for the drama. the hilarity even. the sincerity .... they make me sick if i think of them too long so im gonna end it here

before i go tho ironically enough, the first x-men issue i owned was This one (story a this is that while stuck in some wacko dimension charles accidentally gets himself trapped in logan's mind while utilizing his astral projection. if you were curious). pretty sure i got it for free with another comic set i got years ago since our old comic shop loved to do that, but it's poetic aint it. maybe ill doodle something referencing it..

i should probably look into finishing this arc someday im Dummy curious to even know how it started and how it ends.....

sorry if this comes off as weird, but I really, really appreciate the love and support and appreciation you give Vaggie. This really is my comfort blog. You actually see the depth her character has, you don’t just write her off as ‘bOrIng, ’ you say everything I think and feel about her, you actually appreciate ‘Whatever It Takes’ (Kimiko, too. 🤭). The more i think about it, I feel like the rise of products defining people alongside parasocial relationships is also part of the issue with the rise of antis. Specifically antis that sort of have a certain character as their aesthetic / account theme.

Products usually are advertised as a certain way to achieve certain results, for example a cologne for masculine wealthy men and as a result that tends to make some people believe "if i have that product and use then people will be perceived as more masculine and wealthy" and when it's advertised with a celebrity then some people will think "i will be more similar to the celebrity"

Which products make sense but with Internet leaning more and more about "Post stuff, gain followers and Get sponsors" now instead of tv advertiments its also anyone who's sponsored but the difference between online and TV.. you know when the advertiment starts and ends. It never really ends online.

So then people newer to the Internet that's constantly filled with advertisements will start making that association to random things like "If my favourite youtuber likes this then if i like this I'll be more like them".. "if my fav artist has this equipment i can draw like them" but this also means whatever their favourite youtuber hates some viewers will also hate it to be more like their fav youtuber. They can't separate advertisements and a non advertisement, its no longer clear because on TV you had "TV show, AD, Ad, Ad, Ad, Tv show and credits, Ad Ad Ad, New tv show..." where you knew where your entertainment started and the advertising began. Online its all blended together. A product is something that people are encouraged to want, the person using the product is what they wanr you to aspire to be a certain way but entertainment isn't meant to aspire you to be a certain way, its not promoting anything. Its just there to make you feel something.

Then with my previous theory of parasocial relationships and fictional characters well.. very easily some antis will let their interests and those they associate with define them as a person. Its not that far of a reach to assume that when they have a favourite character they also let it define them, How others view the character is important to them, like a form of projection. "This is my favourite character, I like this character and will talk about this character" then have their profile filled with images of that character.. just like how people perceive themselves or others while having or using certain products being 'better'or 'wealthy' the anti will now perceive themselves as "people like this character, I like this character and i have this character on my profile so people must also like me the same way i like this character" but then the issue is that unlike an advertisement where there's very specific push to certain ways to be seen.. characters are not perceived the same by everyone.

So when they see people writing fanfictions they do not see the character being like they perceive the character as... the character is 'different'so they are upset, to them it is personal and that they assume its bad faith because "Everyone i know sees character as this, why dont they see character as this. Why are they writing this character 'wrong'." And if they do let their favourite character define them and they project onto the character.. well then it can quickly turn to "They must see me like this, they must want to do this to me just like my fav character " and so forth.

Which is also why antis cant handle the existence of people who are proship. To them it can feel like so hurtful because they make such a loud point of having that character as their profile 'aesthetic', they put so much effort and thought about it.. now someone else just 'casually'fucks their hardwork up. they believe that anyone who perceives character differently is a danger to the them (at least to their digital existence they created) and to them its ' damaging'. The thing is, its like damaging a brand.. because they made the character their brand their digital self, without realising that their perception is not the only way of seeing the character. So when someone makes a character in a adult/ minor ship and they use their the adult or minor then they feel like their being told 'hey this is how your perceived by this fanfic writer' and with how easily antis call others pedos.. well its not surprising their upset (absolutely NO reason to target people over those emotions and indulge those emotions with harmful actions)

Fuck i ramble a lot I'm sorry I swear this is the last one, theories are something i love. Obviously both theories are about extremes antis and a specific small portion. This is very likely me overthinking and not a correlation = causation but it is interesting just to consider that with both parasocial relationships and how corporate online spaces are that antis may accidentally be making their accounts like brands as a way to make it easier to gain 'friends' (followers) so when they put so much work into promoting their account then they realise its all pointless when someone writes a fanfic so they throw a fit.

Or Maybe im deluded and trying to feel empathy for them, trying to find any sort of explanation as to why so many antis are hostile when it comes to artistic expression when there is no explanation.

That anon you got about straight women liking m/m content while ignoring m/f or f/f pairings... Where to even start...

First of all, I'm a straight woman who doesn't like yaoi/slash/bl/whatever it's called now and never have so I see where you're going. But I understand why so many women prefer m/m overall.

Many women say they enjoy m/m content because it's devoid of gender roles and misogyny. I understand this. I've consumed straight romance (sometimes against my will) and there's so much bullshit in it like I'm sorry. My sister asked me to watch this period drama with her and literally pretty much every pairing starts with the man being sexist or rude in some way to the woman. And they literally bicker most of the time but it's supposed to be "sexual tension" or whatever until at some point they kiss and I guess everything is forgiven. Yay? I don't know what's exciting or good about any of this. This drama somehow managed to make 1800s europe devoid of racism but not sexism, so pretty much every male love interest is sexist in some way. I don't get why women don't write more romance where the males are actually respectful of their gender as a whole. Or perhaps I do and here's comes my other point: many women cannot conceptualize a world where men are actually women-loving.

Seriously, have you ever seen the weird trend of refering to fictional male characters that are actually loving and respectful towards their gfs as male lesbians, or their het relationship "lesbian-coded"? When I was younger, it used to piss me off when women would say they didnt write or draw m/f pairings because they didnt want to deal with sexism and gender roles, I was like "then write a world where men and women are seen as equals!!" But then I started writing myself and it's incredible how fake it will appear to write a male character respectful and loving of his gf AND her gender as a whole. Now I write and draw for myself so I do whatever I want no matter how silly or fake it is, but I would never publish any of that because I don't wanna deal with people telling me "men really don't act this way, you dont know how to write male characters :/" or "Oh I love the male love interest, he's such a malewife!!".

And yes, many gay male romance has them dealing with homophobia, but that's basically them against society/the world. You can tell they are still in it together, and they will choose each other any time even if that means getting ostracized by everyone. With het pairing and sexism is more like man against woman. She has to deal and fight for this man to see her (and perhaps her gender) as capable and worthy of respect so they can have a better relationship. It doesn't seem like they're in it together and the woman has to put all the effort so her man can see the error of his ways.

Why do you think there are many people who joke about how a male character seems to have more chemistry and rapport with another male character (usually a friend or mentor) than his supposed female love interest? Because they're written as equals with interesting traits and a relationship that surpasses many trials, while the female love interest is written as "the woman" - writers will avoid giving female characters interesting traits because they dont think they look good on female characters or believe women dont or shoudnt act a certain way. And believe me, i'm saying this as a woman that's very attracted to female characters - the majority of shows and movies I consume have (a) female main protagonist(s) and I prefer shows that have a bigger female cast. I also get attached to female characters even if they're "badly written" or whatever the fandom says idgf. Ive even watched a lot of those animes and manga that only have female characters, because I have a preference for women in fiction (and real life I guess)

The f/f stuff is another whole issue that it's not very related to this. Most women producing m/m content are straight so they will want to see at least one male in their pairing. F/f can't provide that for obvious reasons. This is like asking straight guys why they don't consume gay male porn if they like lesbian porn so much. It literally makes no sense. These men give the answer of why they like lesbian porn usually as "one woman is hot, two women is DOUBLE the hotness". Think about it like that with women; now they have two men to ogle at.

Awase - he may be very brash and has a foul mouth but bro is silent when his crush is near. He doesn't know how to act lmao. Has probably accidentally reenacted the Mommy? Sorry. Meme

Sen - he tries to act normal but everything he says and does just seems dorkish for some reason lmao. Spent 45 minutes thinking about how his voice cracked when he answered a question

Kamakiri - he yells a little less but thats about it. If anyone asks what he thinks about his crush he will say he hates them (when he doesn't)

Kuroiro - blushing and can barely get a sentence out. Poor dude. He by far becomes like 5x more poetic around his crush

Kendo - starts overthinking every little interaction between her and her crush but she would rather die then let people know shes worrying so much about how they picked up their pen this morning lmaoo

Kodai - she starts doing little insignificant things for them just to make their day a little easier. But for the most part she acts normal

Komori - she always has this big smile when their around <3 she tends to trip up on her words and such while talking to them

Shiozaki - shes always a little more akward and a little less social when theyre around simply because shes nervous of what they think of her ykyk. She definitely puts a little more into how she looks each day when theyre around.

Shishida - for as long as his crush is in japan they will not be allowed to open any doors themselves. Shishida will always be there to do it for them.

Shoda - dude can barely talk to people normally you think he can talk to someone he likes? No. But he does leave nice anonymous notes in your locker for you to find.

Pony - she gets nervous and just starts talking and rambling about who knows what to the point her throat starts to hurt lmao.

Tsubaraba - he immediately becomes 20x dummer when his crush is nearby and what makes it worse is he will do crazy shit to try and impress them but it always backfires.

Tetsutetsu - hes constantly trying to prove to his crush how manly he is. Its at the point where if he finds a jar thats a little too hard to open he has to wait til they are in the room until he can open it.

Tokage - she tries to stay her usual social and outgoing self but she does get a little self conscious when theyre around. Shes worried they dont like her for who knows why

Manga - other than trying to make his crush laugh a little more each day he tends to draw them a lot. (He would probably die of embarrassment if he showed them the pictures tho.)

Honenuki - hes the only one here that stays 100% normal honestly. No one would be able to tell he likes someone unless he straight up told them.

Bondo - poor dude freezes up completely when his crush is near. While some of the others are worried that their crush doesnt like them hes worried that his crush thinks bondo hates them because of how he freezes up and such

Monoma - he is meanly nice to them. He would walk up to his crush after training or something and say 'bakugous incompetence is the only reason your stupidly brilliant plan worked. So good job reading his inability to see past your tricks' or whatever

Reiko - if she has a crush on someone she tries to avoid them at all costs lmao. After a few weeks she will slowly approach them and try to start a conversation but it doesnt turn out well

Rin - bros biggest fear is accidentally saying something that makes him sound stupid honestly. He works hard to be a hero and he wants to show it off it front of his crush but at the same time he doesnt want to seem bitchy yk?

Hello! about your malevolent ask

[long ass answer- many apologies]

its a slightly goofy, sort of horror soap opera, in the vein of call of cthulu/tma. I dont find it Super Scary, but idk what your milage for horror is.

The overarching plot is drivin by the patrions (sp sorry), in the style of a choose your own adventure novel- you can usually tell where the choices are; it'll be something like 'omg arthur, we're at a crossroads- do we go left, to the evil cavern (where the horrors live) or right, to the evil woods (more horrors).' You can also hear more overt RPG stylings in the beginning- dice roll sounds for perception checks, etc. These do fade out after the first season.

Rough outline (some spoilers): John (a spirit/demon type guy) possesses Arthur (a detective from Arkham MA) and, in doing so, takes over his eyes. Now Arthur must navigate the world with only the guidance of the voice in his head. Horrors unfold, walls are walked into the boys are in their get-along consciousness. Think venom, if both of them were way bitchier and prone to swearing. and also eddy was blind.

IS IT GAY: Yes and no. If its a friendship, its really intense- but cannonicaly it has been very firmly stated that they are just friends. However, the relationship is intertwined and deep enough that many people consider it to be queerplatonic- Arthur being aromantic is a very popular interpretation, if that sweetens the pot for you (idk how loosely you're using gay here). Glib answer: its pretty queer, but no kissing.

COOL STUFF:

-A dramatic, intense relationship between a guy and the dude who lives in his head. They argue ( my god how they argue) they make up, they argue again.

-The saddest little english man (arthur) gets chucked off cliffs multiple times. Do you like men whimpering? This is the podcast for you!

-Very impressive voice acting: the writer voices absolutely everyone in the podcast (yes. everyone) and its genuinely almost unnoticeable. You really do have to have it pointed out to you.

-Fun, slightly campy (in the way of an rpg campaign) Lovecraft style horror

-Lovely piano soundtrack

-A gentleman called the butcher shows up in- what season 3? maybe?- and I adore him. Go singing irishman go. You get that violent homoeroticism.

Drawbacks:

Again, I don't really know your taste, but these are some of the things that might turn someone off from listening. YMMV etc.

-LOUD. If you dont like gentlemen yelling DIRECTLY AND ANGRILY INTO THE MIC then this is not for you. If you do like that, then you are about the have the time of your life. There is also just. An incredible amount of panting/heavy breathing. Also directly into the mic, and at length. Like, an 'i am secretly watching gay pornography' amount. I had it going on a speaker once and my roommate had questions, kind of amount

-Almost no women characters: understandable, since a dude is voicing Literally Everyone- but it is something of a sausage fest. Women exist in universe, they just tend to move in the backround/be unvoiced. Lots of 'oh heres whats happened to her' sort of describing around the 'I can't voice a woman' issue. One old lady has a few voice lines and thats it.

-Kind of a soap: This is a draw for me ngl, but if you are looking for TMA 2: the magnusing- she isn't it. Its a LOT lighter than tma, writing wise, and isnt exactly hitting any crazy new twists in its plot (if you've read Any lovecraftian stuff you probably wont be super surprised by anything)BUT. Its still very fun. Two dudes sharing a body, detective roadship shenanigans. They might kiss! Might see some skinned bodies or something.

The dynamics can be a lil repetative (wake up break up back together) and the plot can be a little- ehhhh. due to it being yk, patrion controlled- but that can be fun- it's pretty heavily a choose your own adventure story at heart, so if your down with that (and the sillyness that comes with it) then you'll like it.

-Gore: pretty gory. I enjoy that sort of thing/ am not really effected by it BUT if that not your cup of tea, then you might wanna skedaddle.

I’m realizing I rarely start with dialogue, though I dont necessarily think that’s a good or bad thing.

I usually start with some action or internal dialogue that simultaneously sets the scene a bit. (Especially if it feels like love chapters 3-5 “after, when, on”)

Each opening line is longer than I expected to be honest 😂
