Important information. SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE. UPDATING AS I WATCH THE MOVIE ALONG BEAR WITH ME. The film they watched at the hotel is You've Got Mail, this is Sam and Rebecca's story. When they messaged each other not knowing who the other person was. Ted said Sleepless in Seattle was far superior. This is the one where airports play a significant part and it's about a man who lost his wife and has a son finding love again with the woman he never knew until the last second would be the one. He first sees her in an airport and is knocked sideways. By all accounts the last of Ted we will see will be in an airport based on previous seasons with first and last shot being a character’s face in the same location.

Also Rebecca mentioning she has a private jet and the thing with airports; SUSP AS HELL.

Keeley assumed the moment Rebecca spent with Dutch Guy was "Magic" This is also a quote from Sleepless in Seattle. Turns out it was Gezellig instead. But this is definitely where we're going. And that'll either be Dutch Guy or Ted. Both fit the man who lost their partner and have a kid formula. Definitely not Sam. But Ted tripped over the Red String of Fate, has the matchbook, loves Kenny Rogers, bakes the biscuits who are home to her, she carries his army man everywhere she goes. I would say those who love this the most are Leo and Mikey. Leo likes providing for you so he can be deemed useful, and Mikey just loves serving you in any way.

If you don't like moving too much, or just feel lazy at times, then ask Raph. He loves carrying you around wherever. He's also a great person to sleep/nap with. His big arms are great if you ever want to feel extra safe. Will not let you touch hot food.

Mikey is also another cuddler like Raph, except he likes to clutch onto your arm or hand while you guys wander around the lair. He likes doing everything with you! If you're ever sick or hurt, they're swarming around you. Both panicked and serious about getting you back in health. Donnie's going to be the worst one out of them all though. He won't leave your side unless he absolutely has to or is fetching something.

(Yet, they still felt in-canon somehow, just a little to the left.) I love how just... down for whatever Reader really is in these lmao.

I like writing pieces without dialogue sometimes as an exercise, since that's usually what I prefer to write first, and this was so very sexy of me to write imo. Writing about a character I've been in love with for 20+ years is always special to me, it's silly but I try to write Spike with such care and keep him in character as closely as I can because it's like, important to me to write him as I experienced him. very specifically, i love to see them not so in love with each other- i mean they can fall in love anytime (and in my interpretation they're a lot slower than yours in development but still a path to qpr eventually). i see their relationship as,... very fragile, but very grounding. its this small important part of their life they can shed their masks and be vulnerable like your recent fic to find each other's answers and resolve through it together because they're the Only two people of this world to understand (aside aether, aside all ppl xiao lost) that makes their dynamic so meaningful and i hope more ppl can see that side of them. ao3 user anomaly98 this is why YOU GET MEEEEEEEEE

lonely but surrounded is SUCH a good way to put it. i genuinely do think lumine is close with a LOT of the others, i think she has a lot of trust and care for them, but its not the same. its not the same depth, not the same commitment, you're SO right comparing it to like. idk !!! idk. lumine once had aether who understood everything so easily and xiao had the other yakshas they both had a family, once, they both had people who understood, once, and now no matter who they love and trust in that matter they are alone. and that's something i love so much about the dynamic i envision for them, the fact that they're able to share such a unique loneliness, the fact that in not being understood by anyone around them they're able to understand each other. there's a level of distance and disconnect between them and those around them that doesn't exist with the other. its SO fucking important to me.

xiao is SO often depicted as being either a) very protective, strong, unbreakable etc or b) very vulnerable and fragile and i fairly often see fics of like. one of them protecting the other, almost? or less that but fics where the dynamic is Skewed, where one of them has the Role of protector and the other the Role of protected, where those roles are set in stone. and i think them being on the same wavelength, capable of protecting each other at any point, equally capable of either- that's so fucking important to me. it's not just that one of them is vulnerable, its that they're vulnerable with each other. it's not just that one of them will fight, it's that they'll fight for each other and fight together. it's equal. it's shared. so much between them is shared. their loneliness, their otherness, the unique way they feel about each other, their grief.

idk just. for me so much of it is the small moments? sometimes when im walking out in the preserve the wind is cool and the air is fresh and the sun is warm and i think oh, this isn't so bad. this is lovely. and that's the kind of vibe i try to go for with them. contentedness over happiness, smaller gestures over grand ones. a quiet kind of love.

heeeey whats uuuuup its meeeee its been at least 12 hours since I made this rant so here's an update.

I did find out a way to defend the honor of the concept of an unmonitored solar freedge in a college student capacity--one of my classmates helped me word a response that I edited a little, I asked in another discord server and got a few other potential responses, so to all the people who said 'ok but you should go off on them OP' pleased to report I did clap back. kinda. I didn't include any research papers (it was 12am and also i wouldnt even know where to LOOK for a research paper on the community fridge/little free pantry/communal sharing of resources model) but I basically said like. Homies. It's antithetical to the purpose. Like, for example, here's some of my responses.

To the first person who asked about "ensuring the pantry is being used fairly" and suggesting signing up on an app to get a code vending machine style, alongside responding to her other comments I said "Regarding the fairness of the fridges being utilized, in the research I've done on similar community initiatives such as Little Free Pantries and on-the-grid community fridges, that hasn't been a particularly noted issue! It is important to note, however, that people aren't necessarily monitoring that 'the right people' take 'the right amount' of food/resources from these community programs--free and unconditional access is an important part of mutual aid work such as this, and people can struggle with food access for a myriad of reasons in many different ways that may not necessarily be immediately caught by any 'screening process' that one may try to implement. Most similar community initiatives run on an honor system for the most part, with evidence that they're being used positively being in the fact that resources are being taken out and/or put in by members of the communities people live in and care about! We could perhaps look into ways to get a solid number on how many people are helped/how many meals provided, but outside the 'how would we test this' portion of this class project I'm personally not sure how necessary it would be in reality." And then I basically said that I feel collecting data isn't a big concern, and that the project would be a success as long as community members are benefiting from it.

Aaaaand regarding the guy who was worried about one person taking all the food for themselves and talking about apple wallet barcodes and only allowing access every 24-48 hours I said "I understand your concern that sometimes people may take large amounts of food. This could happen, however I feel that adding locks and codes would be a problematic solution as it would undermine access and the community nature of the project. I can think of children without phones, people's whose phones happen to be dead/low power/don't have QR code readers/don't have space for a new app, and people who may not be able to read/read the language a sign is written in as a few groups who would have limited access to the resource if this were to be implemented. Also there are many successful community pantries and libraries successfully in operation in diverse communities across the country--there's even some in my city!--so the model has been proven successful already. Adding refrigeration doesn’t change the nature of a community resource in a way that would require us to re-examine the model, I feel. I’m sure there's cases where pantries have been vandalized or misused but that is not the norm with this type of project and would have to be addressed in communities on a case by case basis. "

Also I wanna emphasize that for the most part this was just two out of nine people who were fretting about access codes and all that jazz (maybe 2 and a half if you count the person who said 'access codes would be good for monitoring use but would also limit the availability of the resource so its tricky to think about'), and that there were 7 other projects to comment on and we were only required to comment on one project. I don't think this is representative of what the entire class feels in the slightest! All the animation homies were also 'what the fuck'-ing alongside me when I vented about it in the Super Secret Animation Group Chat.

But uhhh yeah! If someone insists there has to be a way to track usage for the sake of the project or hypothetical grant funding or whatever (because again we're masters of fine arts students we dont have the Pizzazz + engineering knowledge + funding to make 'freedge but solar powered instead of plugged to a building' an IRL thing) I'll just bring up the idea of finding a way to track how many times the fridge door is opened instead. Or even just a paper there like 'for purposes of tracking how many people use this fridge please put the date and what you put in/took out' or something like that. Who knows. But yeah! Not-so-small update.

hi would like to make this clear that this is gonna be an unhinged rant about my college classes.

For context, one of my classes is a semester-long group project (hell) and I pitched the idea of solar powered community fridges to my group and we rolled with it. Here's a post i made on it previously. We don't have to make the fridges themselves, basically just talk about the problem our concept addresses (food insecurity in this case) and how we think this concept would work and how, in a hypothetical reality where we made it real, we would test to see if it worked.

Anyways we had to post the rough draft of our presentations so people in other groups could see what we were doing and comment on them with their thoughts and all. Yknow. Classic 'college class discussion board have to reply to at least one project with quality feedback' stuff. And

Man.

I am so frustrated.

Highlights:

My group keeps insisting that we should have an app for the solar fridges. I don't know why they think app design needs to fit into community fridges but they put it into the draft posted to the forum.

In this case they proposed the app would be kinda like Instacart? Where people who want to donate to the fridges but don't have groceries on them and don't feel like going to get groceries can put in money and then people will then go buy the groceries to put in the fridge. Or use the funds to help with fridge maintenance. And the fridges would have 'QR codes, links, etc. to connect community members for the common cause of helping tackle food insecurity in the community.'

Lots of the comments were pretty good! People liked the idea. There were some concerns about insulation and keeping things cool with low energy cost (the program is online but the college itself is in Georgia USA so many people are in Georgia) but yknow.

But the frustrating part to me I guess is that a lot of people seem convinced that people would use the fridges 'unfairly' and that we'd need to find a way to restrict how much food people can take out or how many times they can use it or something. Which frankly in my opinion defeats the purpose of it being a community fridge. Here are some examples of things people have said so far (comments are due tomorrow evening but I'm mad now so I'm venting now):

One student said "How will you know if the pantry is being utilized fairly?" and "How will the app work? In a dream world, this might be a way to help with tracking and accountability. (Just a thought…) Maybe folks would need to sign up on the app, they get a code… and the fridge acts as a sort of vending machine to deliver what they need. This would give you data to measure success. :)"

Which. I just. This feels completely antithetical to the purpose of a community fridge??? Or a community anything???? Little free pantries and little free libraries don't operate on a 'you get a code to access it once' vending machine basis?? We even mentioned community farm stalls/community pantries in the draft write up! And showed examples!

Another student said "Great thoughts. I am concerned about one person taking all the food for themselves. It might be a great idea to have them in an enclosed area with access control through the app that would log and lock out people who are overusing the resource. Perhaps a barcode could be added to Apple Wallet to track each individual's arrival? Possibly having a mechanized lock and opening mechanism that would only allow each fridge to be open for a specific time before automatically closing and locking? Each scan would only allow access once each 24-48 hour period, preventing "password sharing.""

I cannot emphasize enough that this is the comment that has brought me here today because with all due respect what the flying fuck do you think is the point of a community fridge! I'm already prickly about the idea of limiting access to the fridge itself to only people with cellphones, but to this degree?! Like maybe its because I'm the one who came up with the concept and I care about terms like 'mutual aid' and 'community building' and 'judgement free accessibility to food' but have these people not heard of the concept of helping people?!?! With no strings attached?!? If someone takes all the contents of a community fridge or pantry--which, seriously, how likely is that--they're probably hungry and need it! The concept of putting community resources behind a lock and limiting accessibility is just repulsive to me???

Like someone else commented with this excellent point--"As several have addressed above, I am also wondering how would you monitor use? If you use the simplicity of the honor system, it could easily be taken advantage of. However, I feel like if you were to create some sort of access code, how is it to say that they people needing the use of the fridge will have access to the necessary technology to get the code? It's a tricky situation to think about." For the purposes of this hypothetical assignment where we'd need to track how many people are using the fridges? Yeah I guess we'd need to be able to track how many people use it and when. But in reality??? In real life reality where people are living and struggling and hungry??? I just don't really give a shit!! Helping five people is better than helping none, and locking access behind technology everyone pretends is universal but really isn't is not the way to help!

And of course one of my groupmates is already commenting on all these posts like 'oh! "you gotta be able to gague if the people who're using it are the people who actually need it" food insecurity can look so many different ways for so many different reasons and you can't always judge by appearances and income levels who is struggling to feed themselves or their families!! There are people who have nice jobs who are struggling because they're caring for sick family members or kids or dealing with student loans or ANYTHING! There are people with nice clothes who are trying to decide between buying groceries and paying rent! There are people living in their cars or couch surfing looking for jobs who also happen to own an XBox or a Laptop!!! "Sorry you can't access the community fridge because you don't look poor and needy enough to me. but if you do, good news--you can only use it once every 48 hours so make it last!" Bullshit utter bullshit.

I talk to people in my life about things like community fridges and little free pantries and mutual aid and the like and people are always like 'ok but theres gotta be strings attatched' BUT ACTUALLY NO THERE DON'T GOTTA!!! Maybe we could change how we view our fellow human beings and stop assuming that everyone around you are greedy little demons looking to ruin everything good and that you are the only holy and righteous saint on the streets who understands the concept of 'community resources' and 'sharing' maybe??? It's like that post about community fruit trees where people are like 'oh but what if people steal all the fruit' like HELLO? how do you STEAL a PUBLICALLY ACCESSIBLE RESOURCE

-techno, wilbur, and tommy are phil’s kids

-(the three kids are adopted, techno was adopted when he was five, wilbur was adopted when he was four, and tommy was adopted when he was seven)

-techno is older than wilbur by two years and wilbur is older than tommy by eight years

-phil is this rich businessman. techno is some powerful leader. wilbur is a famous songwriter.

-then tommy owns a hotel

-he's still like 16/17 but he owns and manages it

-techno is the oldest therefore favorite and heir to whatever money and property phil owns

-tommy is least favorite. phil ignored him.

-then one day phil just gave him money and said "stop being a disappointment" so he started his hotel at 15

-both tommy and wilbur feel the need to prove themselves

-tommy meets sam when starting up his hotel, and immediately gets attached

-sam is basically his guide, even after building the hotel. sam saw the child and went “yeah he needs parental guidance” and continued to stay in contact with tommy

-tommy is the one who gives sam the creeper mask. because sam is always working on construction and stuff and he's always inhaling debris and tommy likes minecraft so he gives it to him. sam adores it and wears it all the time.

-tommy totally calls him sam nook

sam: hey tommy! just building your hotel. i do need some more things for construction though... could you ship them over to me?

tommy: y'know this reminds me of a game my brother made me play over the holidays...

sam: ... uh,,,, what?

tommy: animal crossing! that's it. you're totally tom nook.

-tubbo is the receptionist for the main hotel in the chain, (the one tommy is constantly at) but he basically becomes sort of a manager

-tommy sends him off to do multiple jobs throughout the day, and tubbo does them with only little complaint

tubbo: you know i’m not room service right?

tommy: i don’t remember asking

tubbo, already holding the room order: this isn’t my job tho-

tommy: and yet here you are, doing the job

-tommy pays him more than everyone else though, but tubbo doesn’t know that because tommy won’t let him see the usual staff paycheck

-tubbo is half a year older but his parents are constantly away on buisness trips so he is often home alone and has to take care of himself

-tommy is not good with showing his affection, the only one in his family to do so was wilbur. phil just kind of threw money at him on holidays and ignored him the rest of the time, and while techno was a lot more attentive to him, he wasn’t the best at affection either

-when tommy started making money with the hotel, (how very successful hotel chain), to show tubbo he cared he just started offering to buy him things

tommy, upon finding out tubbo likes bees: you know i could buy you a bee sanctuary if you’d like?

tubbo: tommy no-

-tubbo teaches him that money isn’t the only form of showing you care. it’s a long process

tommy: so you’re saying i shouldn’t buy sam a private engineering lab for his birthday?

tubbo: i know for a fact sam wouldn’t know how to accept such a gift and that he’d rather you close the hotel for a day and take him to play laser tag

tommy: ...okay but what if i do that and buy him a private engineering lab?

-tommy gets hate for being that young and successful

-the dream team are like “stfu i'm proud to be working for a very successful 16 yo how dare you" and go off on every rich person who says something about tommy’s age

they're still streamers. they just don't tell tommy. (tommy totally knows tho, he’s a 16 year old kid who plays minecraft and animal crossing, ofc he knows they’re video game streamers)

-even after the hotel is built, q comes in to "check up" on the building with sam. and they "make sure nothing is going wrong with the building"

-they really just want to make sure tommy is okay under so much pressure

-wilbur totally has tubbo’s schedule and knows when tubbo’s on break, he can usually be found with tommy in tommy’s office

-wilbur will just barge in and be like “okay let’s go, you need a break”

-one time wilbur came in while sam and quackity were there

wilbur, barging in: kay, tommy, tubbo, let’s-

sam, mid lecture with tommy: you can’t keep doing this!

quackity, also scolding: you need to take a break, man.

tubbo, who noticed wilbur come in: wil! tell tommy he needs to go to bed and sleep! he hasn’t slept in twenty seven hours!

-wilbur instantly likes sam and quackity, because they care for his little brother (he totally has a rivalry with them though, he was there first, and tommy’s actual brother)

-the main hotel in the chain is sometimes used as an international meeting place for big companies and politicians

-more than once has phil or techno needed to stay for a few nights due to major meetings with powerful people

-it’s kind of awkward sometimes because tommy’s the hotel chain owner and since he’s based at the main hotel, he sometimes needs to greet the people going in for meetings

-or since he’s the ceo of a big name company, he sometimes has to attend big rich people galas that he hates

-techno notices how tommy is clinging to tubbo at parties and galas all the time so he tries to get tommy to talk about him

-he likes that tubbo is there for tommy and totally resonates with the chaotic energy the two create

-sometimes when tommy can’t get tubbo in to the parties/galas, and techno is there, tommy will hang around him and steal his things

-like taking his wallet so techno will have to go back to the hotel afterwards and visit tommy

-he does it for attention. 

-tommy lives at the hotel. it’s not technically legal cause he wasn’t emancipated from his family and he’s only 16 but they’re rich so people don’t really say anything

-technically he still has a room at phil’s place, but he stays in a room at the hotel. when designing the place, he made sure to map out an area for his living space

-tubbo takes naps in his room

tubbo: i'm gonna go take a nap in the break room

quackity: there is no break room??

tubbo: yea there is. on the top floor. with the giant door.

quackity:... isn't that tommy's room???

-tubbo sometimes stays the night with tommy, when his parents have been on a business trip for over two weeks. he still goes to in-person school so he usually only stays on weekends during the school year

-tommy does online school, and forces himself to get his schoolwork for the week done over the weekend so he can focus on the hotel and other responsibilities

-he fakes having the “lmao i'm better and have more money also you don't play minecraft" mentality towards other kids and claims that’s why he does online

-it’s actually because he doesn’t have time to balance everything and he was bullied in the past so he switched to online school as soon as he started his hotel

-sometimes tubbo helps him with his classes tommy is overworked. like, in his off time. he has the passwords to tommy's computer so he just goes on it and does some of his school work

-tommy ranting to tubbo about how he hates his dad and how he said phil was gonna visit him the next day

-phil arriving and asking tubbo (because he's the receptionist) where tommy is. tubbo saying he doesn't know and that he left. even though tommy is literally in his room

-phil tries. he just doesn’t know how to parent. techno was 17 and wilbur was 15 when he adopted tommy, and he just got busy enough and forgot how to take care of a child

-tommy knows if he talks to phil, it’ll be awkward and phil will just try and buy him off (not intentionally, it’s just how business men be working, yknow)

-tommy just wants to prove himself, to both himself and phil. and hes using his hotel to do that

Simblr/Tumblr notes.

So by the time it took me to write this, the original post by @daisiesprouts was deleted but I spent so much time writing this word salad I feel like it deserves its space on my blog.

Honestly, I know how you feel. I always make the mistake of thinking "oh this is sure going to get me a lot of notes" and I get giddy, and then when it doesn't happen (those posts always get me 2 notes at most) I get disappointed and confused because I've been here for 5 years and I always see posts with like, a lamp and a chair, get between 90-200 notes and I'm like whatever.

It's discouraging and the usual "Why am I even here? What's the point" thought starts rolling around in my head.

More popular blogs basically get away with everything they post -they started from zero like all of us but once they get "notoriety" content shifts in the background, they get showered with likes and reblogs just because it's them, and I think that's important to remember because it does not mean their posts are better than ours, it does not mean we suck. We're just not popular like them. And that's ok.

As much as I say that I'm playing for myself I always think about those 10-15 people I always see in my notifications and realise there is someone who enjoys my stuff after all and those are the important ones.

Think about this, the smaller the following, the less people you may "disappoint" and the pressure to be always perfect is almost nonexistent. I put "disappoint" in quotes because honestly...we're not here to serve or please others. It's wrong for basically strangers on the internet to expect stuff from you at all costs & frankly I don't believe anyone pretends you post consistently everyday.

Constantly thinking you are a disappointment to others is bad for you, for all of us, and we all need to get out of this toxic mentality. Being this distressed for a blog we keep as a hobby is not worth it and does not serve us.

We need to stop thinking of notes as a validating tool.

From my humble perspective, deleting blogs, deleting posts, maybe changing URLs is useless because we, usually, dump the blame of being unhappy with our tumblr home on others. It's also a cry for attention, a desperate measure to get noticed by guilt tripping others to fall over themselves to apologize for not being diligent, attentive followers. And that's when we turn from the victim to the problem. Sure, a blissful fresh start, this perfect blank slate might feel nice and liberating at first but once you start getting into the same negative mentality of not being "enough" you're back to square one. Because in the end it's always you and your problems...just with a different mask.

It's a cycle and nothing is going to get resolved this way.

If it gets too much just step away for however long it's needed and don't worry with "I'm sorry" posts. Just disappear when you feel to and reappear when you're ready. No explanations.

It's important we repeat to ourselves we are enough. We can't please everyone, we can't be liked by everyone. It's part of life.

In the end, this is just a blog. You get 300 notes? Good for you. You get 10? Good for you too! You get 0? That's a bit sad but are YOU proud of that post? Does it make YOU happy? That's what matters.

I know it's hard thinking "just don't care" but it's what I try to do. I mean, of course I'll always care about notes - they're right there, screaming at you look at me look at meeeee - but not in a way that's damaging to my mental health. Don't think "it's not good enough". Think "Thank you (10) strangers on the internet for liking my posts today".

In the end, there's always going to be someone who cares and my posts make me happy. I care. That's what keeps me going.
