my favorite aspect of hyura's character is she can grow body parts back and just assumes everyone else can do it too

Best episode so far by a big margin. Finally get some plot development and action.

So as I expected since the first time we saw them, the knights are humans. I wonder what was the process of them becoming the winged knights and if everyone really consented to it. Seems wild to turn the entire human population into an army. The demons just want to be left alone and we’ve got the humans framed as the aggressors here.

Glad hyura is ok I was kinda concerned about her last week but that healing factor is clutch.

Are we getting a mushoku style teleportation arc now with Vermelio and Helck going thru the wormhole? I’m really hype for next week. Think the story is finally getting started

I finished watching Helck tonight and sdjkbfhnggh??????? I didn’t realize there was a second season in the works????? At the last episode I was like “huh I wonder how they’re gonna resolve all this” and then they just didn’t?????? IT KEEPS GOING THIS IS BOTH WONDERFUL AND UNBEARABLE

Don’t get me wrong, season 1 had a great ending! I’m super happy with where both Helck and Vermilio’s individual arcs and relationship to each other went! They are great characters and great friends!! 🥰

I’m also just impressed with how incredibly respectfully the show treated its female lead… it’s so refreshing and I love her so much….. Even if I’m mildly irked by how they treated some other female characters *cough* Hyura *cough* Alicia *cough*, they really did Vermilio justice and I’m so happy!!!

Jujutsu Kaisen (Last: 1): Yuji's despair was relieved by news that Nobara had a chance, so he joined Todo and continued brawling with Mahito.

Helck (Last: 2): Edil's repeated duels with Hyura helped him break free of the king's spell, and his reward was being broken by Mikaros.

My New Boss is Goofy (Last: 4): Momose and Shirosaki hang out, including riding the legendary swan boat that doesn't make you break up.

The Apothecary Diaries (Last: 5): Jinshi did what he does best, dispatch Maomao to low-key spy on a palace and then tease her mercilessly.

Spy X Family (Last: 3): After surviving the cruise, Anya played hard on the island and failed to impress her classmates with her adventure.

Overtake (Last: 6): Harunaga immediately returned to racing despite not being fully healed in order to light a fire under a flagging Tokumaru.

The Faraway Paladin (Last: 8): Negotiations with Valacirca broke down and Will landed some hits before triple-casting... and getting rekt.

Under Ninja (Last: 7): Saruta continued to cause problems, even slipping away from a remote-controlled robot, while Hibi fought Yamada.

Finished reading Helck in one sitting...

Some thoughts below (spoilers for Helck!!!)

These two 🥺 Helck and Vamirio (or Anne from Management) are def the highlight of the manga for me. I lovee a good male-female platonic relationship. Their interactions are just so refreshing, and they’re so honest and respectful with each other. And both of them are so nice??? Like, I love Anne sm. I thought she was gonna be a hard-ass at first, but nope! She’s a serious character, sure, but she won my heart with how kind she was to the side characters from the start. I wished the story focused more on Helck and Anne’s travels together, but alas, there were other sub-plots happening. I just want more of them!!

Pleasantly surprised by how good the female characters are treated in this manga. The bar is low for me on these action/fantasy/shounen-adjacent manga tbf, but I really like that none of the girls are sexualized or given the role of “cute girl to be on the manga cover”. Our main girl Vamirio/Anne is one of the most powerful characters and everyone respects her; no one really bats an eye at the fact that she’s a young lady. Hyura the Immortal is also great!

The first few chapters were so different holy fuck. Such a tone shift. You can tell the genre shift from comedy to serious fantasy by how Helck’s face was drawn 😭

I kinda skimmed over the last few action- and lore-heavy chapters, and focused on the character development on our MCs. Maybe this is why I shouldn’t be reading action manga lmao

Overall, good read! Didn’t realize there was an anime adaptation at the time of reading. Probably won’t watch it, but I’m glad for the resurgence of Helck content

This is a modern reincarnation AU, in which Erwin carries vivid memories of his snk life and they cause him serious distress.  He notices Levi among a group of candidates applying to be his secretary, and hires him immediately.  Levi, unfortunately, doesn’t appear to remember Erwin.  Over time Erwin becomes increasingly desperate and isolated and has sex with Levi when they’re both quite drunk in a horrible way.  It’s certainly not the worst depiction of problematic consent sex/rape I’ve seen while going through doujin for you (there is some horrible shit out there), but it’s OOC and not nice to read (this is in the second part of the first link).  I included this series anyway because I thought the premise was really interesting and tragic and beautiful.  In the other two parts of the series there is not any non con so it may be worth checking out if you can get past that egregious character problem. It also ends up quite sweet. Now, this is quite a long series-- when you get to the bottom of the page in each one you need to click on the part 2 bit to read the whole thing, otherwise the endings seem very abrupt since you’re missing half of the series.  It took me a stupid long time to figure that out.  Next we’ve got Other’s Husbands by 13 (A太) https://myreadingmanga.info/13-others-husbands-attack-titan-dj-eng/

So this is the first work we’ve had from 13 (A太), I love her stuff, there’s a bunch of really sexy eruri doujin by her that I want to see translated super badly <333.  Anyway so this controversial one features infidelity!  Levi and Erwin used to date 12 years prior to this series, then they broke up since Erwin decided to get married to help advance his career.  Levi, meanwhile gets married to a lesbian so both of their families will stop bugging them to get married. Levi and Erwin reconnect and start having an affair, and Erwin’s marriage starts to fall apart.  I like this one for a few reasons; the art is lovely, the sex is diverse and sexy, Erwin’s passion is brilliant, and I like the realistic depiction of trying to be homosexual in a society which demands conformity.  Homophobia is not really addressed in a meaningful way in snk, so I like it when media addresses the fact that yes, being lgbt is difficult in some parts of the world, and lots and lots of beautiful people have been forced into relationships they don’t care about because the person they love is the wrong gender/race/ethnicity/whatever.  Obviously cheating on your spouse is wrong, but I thought this series tackled a very challenging concept in a really mature way.  Keep an eye out for more stuff by 13 (A太)!.  (this one also has where you have to click for part 2 at the bottom which again confused me)

Great episode as always but I hate they left us off on a cliffhanger.

we really saw how dangerous the demon realm is outside of the protected areas. Everyone besides Vermelio and Hyura took it as a joke until that new world monster showed up, but this world is pretty dangerous.

Hopefully we learn who these knights are and what they’re doing in the demon realm next week.
