I realized after posting it to the Discord that I had essentially posted the version marked final and not finalFINAL lol. There's not huge differences, just where I put my signature and a few panels with Hylia's face are lighter, so I'm not too worried about it.

Okay, lets talk about the First Hero from the Hyrule Historia Skyward Sword Manga-

I love the idea of his character, a man who is sent to do an impossible task, saving the day but dying in the end.

It's really cool.

But... It takes away from The Hero of the Sky's character.

Hear me out.

Sky grew up hearing about stories of a legendary hero who risked life and limb to save everyone he held dear, he was someone everyone in skyloft looked up to, even young Link! But when Sky went on his own adventure, it turns out that legendary hero who slayed an evil god to save everyone and everything, was just himself.

His greatest Hero, the one he looked up to the most... Was himself.

...

But the Manga changes that, and it's just some other guy.

So I was browsing the Skyward Sword/Zelda aisle of Tumblr and I noticed a lot of people suggesting that Demise was completely responsible for all the problems of the series. That his curse caused all the suffering Link and Zelda have to go through and fix throughout the series. And other people were arguing that Hylia was responsible for all of their suffering because she chose Link to be the Hero of Legend.

So I thought I’d give my thoughts.

It’s almost entirely Demise’s fault. He is the reason that Hylia had to choose a champion in the first place. He is completely malicious, he destroyed the original realm of Hylia (Hyrule) and he forced humanity to flee to the skies to guard the Triforce.

But he isn’t responsible for all the suffering Link and Zelda go through. His curse doesn’t actually cause Link and Zelda to reincarnate. He just cursed them to always be followed by a version of him that will try to kill them.

The thing is that whole forced to forever fight evil thing. Hylia kinda already did that.

I said that Demise isn’t the cause of their reincarnation. We known this because in the Hyrule Historia Manga Hylia admits that she did it.

Hylia arranged it that she (as Zelda) and Link will reincarnate every time Hyrule is any sort of danger. So they basically already were going to have to fight evil forever. Demise’s curse just gave them a permanent opponent to face.

(Slightly related thoughts: I think Hylia was right to do this by the way. Hyrule and the Triforce need defenders and Link and Zelda can do it.

Also I see Hylia shedding her divinity to become Zelda and joining Link in the cycle of reincarnation as her way of apologizing. She wants him to have at least one companion on his eternal quest. And she is willing to be that companion)

i dunno how to phrase it again so this will probably just end up being a rambling post (especially because i havent touched totk since i beat it). if you haven't played totk or haven't beaten it yet, this contains spoilers?? (idr how long it's been since totk came out. 💀💀💀💀💀)

but idk i was thinking about fi's monologue in the beginning of skyward sword about the battle between hylia and demise. she talks about how the earth cracked open and demonic forces came forth and started destroying everything and every one, and how it would be a "war of unmatched scale and ferocity, the likes of which would never be seen again." hylia teaming up with the peoples of the surface to stop demise and his army and eventually sealing demise away.

and idk i was thinking about totk and ( then botw by extension ) with ganondorf and zelda and their battle - how she teams up with the peoples of the surface to stop him, reforges the master sword, how she can hear fi, she seals ganon with her powers in botw and stuff like that. like ganondorf when his seal is broken, the earth is cracked open and the scene after he swallows the relic with him on his horse and all the monsters following after him... idk it made me think of demise and the opening of skyward sword. plus ganondorf's design in this game does make me think of demise too. and then link and zelda vanquishing ganondorf for good (?) at the end of the game??? idk it just made me think of skyward sword and the war that fi describes and it makes me wonder if this was nintendo's attempt at trying to... showcase something like that in a zelda game??? ntm i'm just now thinking about how hylia lowered herself to a mortal form in skyward sword and then zelda in totk transforms herself into a higher being you could say and i'm just like hmm.... 🤔🤔

idk this was all just random and i wanted to just... throw it out there. i have a draft from feb 2021 that i want to post too even tho i dont think my ramblings there are relevant anymore since totk released ??? but yeah...

so basically tldr is the stuff with zelda, link, and ganondorf in totk makes me think of the opening sequence describing the war between hylia and demise in skyward sword and me wondering if nintendo was attempting to showcase something like that in totk.
