Hypospadias, a common congenital abnormality affecting young boys, often necessitates repair surgery to improve quality of life and prevent psychological impact as they grow older. However, understanding the costs involved in this procedure is crucial for families considering treatment options.
In India, the cost of Hypospadias surgery can vary significantly, ranging from 30,000 to 2,00,0000 rupees, depending on several factors.
Firstly, the expertise and experience of the healthcare professional performing the surgery play a significant role in determining the cost. Surgeons with more experience and higher success rates typically charge higher fees.
2.The method of surgery also influences the cost. Advanced techniques such as laparoscopy may incur higher expenses compared to conventional open surgeries due to their precision and minimally invasive nature.
3.The type and severity of Hypospadias are critical factors affecting the cost. Cases with higher severity may require more time and involve greater complexity, resulting in higher surgical expenses.
4.Additionally, patient-specific factors such as age, physiological conditions, and medical history can impact the treatment plan and, consequently, the cost of surgery. Complications or previous failures may also require additional resources and expertise, contributing to overall expenses.
Ultimately, while cost is an important consideration, prioritising the expertise and experience of the healthcare provider and ensuring the best possible outcome for the patient should be paramount.

TREATMENT
Hypospadias is completely treatable. However, it is completely treated in stages depending upon the severity of the condition and associated complications.
Hypospadias is treated by surgical intervention and necessarily needed to be operated. Ideally, the surgery is often performed during the first year of a boy’s life for a better clinical outcome.
The objective of the hypospadias repair is to:
· Correct the downward curvature,
· Reconstruct the urethra so that the urethra is of adequate size and with the opening at the usual place i.e, at the tip of the penis,
· Provide a normal cosmetic appearance of the penis.

Hypospadias is a common abnormality of the penis. It occurs in 1 out of every 150-200 boys. Hypospadias leads to both cosmetic and functional problems.
The main features of hypospadias are an abnormally situated urinary opening (situated on the undersurface of the penis, instead of being at the tip of the penis normally), a penis that is bent downwards (which is called chordee), an abnormal foreskin and abnormal glans penis (glans is the cone-shaped terminal part of the penis). There are many types of hypospadias, based on the severity of each of these defects.

Urethral Stricture Market Size, Competitive Landscape, Growth Factors, Revenue Analysis Till 2027
Tumblr media
Market Research Future’s (MRFR) latest report predicts that the global urethral stricture market size is projected to surge at a CAGR of 7.30% during the forecast period. Urethral stricture is a chronic disease which can narrow the urethral opening due to injuries, scars, genetic disorders and sexually transmitted diseases. This can restrict urine flow and be a major cause of various urological disorders.
The urethral stricture market is expanding steadily due to the rise in the treatment of injuries, kidney stones, poor dietary habits, obesity, and other medical conditions that require urethral stents, dilators, and catheters. Apart from this, improving healthcare facilities and growing awareness about the disease and treatment positively affect the market size globally. Surgeries like urethral dilations are popular in countries like India and China due to their high efficiency and low cost. Furthermore, the introduction of new and advanced medications and treatments is likely to boost the market growth during the forecast period.

On the flip side, restraints opposing the market growth include lack of knowledge about the disease and minimal access to medical facilities. Despite the restraints, major drivers such as growing penetration by market players and elevating need to gain access to affordable treatments are likely to boost the market size in the coming years.
Technological advancements such as tissue engineering is the latest trend changing the dynamics of the market. Due to tissue engineering technology, surgeons are no longer limited by the quantity and quality of urethral substitutes existing in a patient.

Urethral Stricture Treatment Market Improvement in Technology is Expected to Drive the Growth of the Market
Tumblr media
Urethral stricture is a medical condition, which causes narrowing of the urethra due to presence of a scar tissue, tissue inflammation, infection or injury. This condition can cause obstructive dysfunction of urethra with potentially serious consequences for the entire urinary tract. The urinary strictures are more common in males. They occur at any point along the urethra, but are most often seen in the bulbar region and can range from less than 1cm long to the entire length of the urethra. There are two types of urethral stricture conditions that occur in males, which include posterior and anterior urethral strictures.

The cause of urethral stricture depends on the site of the stricture. Some of the common causes for this condition are idiopathic, inflammatory (caused by infection or chronic inflammation in urethra, e.g., lichen sclerosus), traumatic (caused due to injury to the urethra), iatrogenic (caused by medical intervention such as endoscopic procedures, urethral catheterization, radiotherapy or surgery to neighboring organs), and congenital (caused by inherited conditions such as hypospadias and epispadias).
Some of the common symptoms of urethral strictures includes painful urination, reduced urine output, incomplete emptying of the bladder, and inability to void. There are various types of treatment available for urethral strictures ranging from conservative or minimally invasive procedures to complex reconstructive procedures such as direct vision internal urethrotomy (DVIU), urethroplasty, urethral dilation, and others.
Urethral Stricture Treatment Market – Market Dynamics
Increasing cases of prostate cancers, injuries, and medical conditions requiring urethral stents, dilators, and catheters is one of the major factors for rise in urethral stricture cases, which in turn is driving growth of the urethral stricture treatment market.
According to the National Centers for Biotechnology & Information (NCBI), urethral stricture is a common disease with prevalence of over 400 per 100,000 population among males in year 2016 globally.  According to the Cancer Research UK, in males in the U.K., prostate cancer is the most common cancer with around 47,200 new cases registered in 2015. Moreover, the incidence rates of prostate cancer are projected to rise by 12% between 2014 and 2035, to 233 cases per 100,000 males by 2035 in the U.K., as per Cancer Research UK. High catheter associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) rates of 6.8 per 1000 device days were observed in the UAE medical units in March 2015.
Moreover, advancements in development of therapies for treating urethral strictures is driving growth of the urethral stricture treatment market. For instance, a Germany-based company, MukoCell GmbH developed a tissue engineering-based product called MukoCell, which is used for repair of urethral strictures and hypospadias. This product is an alternative to conventional transplantation with native buccal mucosa.
However, high cost of surgical procedures and high rate of complications are some of the major factors restraining growth of the global urethral stricture treatment market. According to Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP) 2016, the average cost of male urethroplasty can range between US$ 5,677–US$ 10,000 with an average increase of US$ 616 per year in the U.S.

A tomboy from early childhood and throughout college in 1939, Dillon became the first documented female to male transgender person to begin hormone replacement therapy. Shortly after beginning hormone tablets, he started seeing a therapist who unfortunately violated his confidentiality and gossiped around town about Dillon's desire to live as a male full time. As a result of this breach of trust, a humiliated Dillon decided to move to Bristol and took up work in an auto garage where he passed as a male despite still legally being considered female.
Dillon’s life would change forever while in the Royal Infirmary for a head injury resulting from a fainting spell due to Hypoglycemia when he connected with a plastic surgeon, who performed a double mastectomy (top surgery) for him and provided him with a physician’s letter that allowed him to amend his birth certificate. While in the hospital Dillon also met with Dr. Harold Gillies, who agreed to perform a phalloplasty surgery on Dillon after perfecting his techniques on injured WWII veterans and intersex people.
In 1946, Gillies diagnosed Dillon with extreme hypospadias to hide the fact that Dillon was transgender from the public and allow him to operate on Dillon without scrutiny or legal troubles. Between 1946 to 1949, Gillies performed at least (if not more) 13 surgeries on Dillon some of which resulted in complications that left Dillon with a limp. After surgery, Dillon felt much more comfortable socializing and was known for his love of dancing, and while modern transgender men often seek surgery for a more cisnormative romantic life, Dillon avoided forming close relationships with women at all costs for fear of his revealing his trans status. His personal belief that "one must not lead a girl on if one could not give her children.” allowed him to enact misogynistic behaviors without shame and prevented women from being attracted to him.
Later in life, Dillon published a book about transgender people titled, Self: A Study in Endocrinology and Ethics and while Dillon didn’t reveal his transgender history in the book, it was splashed all over the newspapers when two prominent genealogical guidebooks respectively listed him as male and female.  The unwanted press attention due to this very public revelation of his transgender status led Dillon to flee to India where he immersed himself in Buddhist studies and adopted the new name, Sramanera Jivaka. However, he was refused ordination because of his transgender status and moved to Ladakh, where he was ordained a novice monk and took the name Lobzang Jivaka. In his final years, he devoted his time to Buddhism and writing publishing four books on Buddhism. In 1962, shortly after his visa expired his health started to fail, likely because of prolonged term oral testosterone use and his simple vegetarian diet and sadly he died after being admitted to a hospital in Dalhousie, India.
