Marvel's 1992 Darkhold Redeemers
Tumblr media
“Darkhold Redeemers” was a comic created in 1992 about a group of supernatural investigators in possession of the Darkhold, an evil book of dark sorcery that has evil pages scattered over the world. In Marvel lore, the Darkhold is the book that created the first vampires. The comic was created by 90s Marvel journeyman Chris Cooper (also known for creating Starfleet Academy, a comic about the adventures of Cadet Nog that tied in to the events of Deep Space 9).
The book is notable for three reasons.
Tumblr media
The first is that the premise is shockingly and coincidentally similar to the later Buffy the Vampire Slayer, with occult investigations carried out by a group that is led by a beautiful, tight outfit wearing vampire killer from a lineage of vampire hunters (Victoria Montesi, the Montesi Formula being the way vampires are destroyed in Marvel Comics), and also includes a mouthy scrappy everyman, an occult expert and archeologist who’s knowledge of the supernatural and collection of books leads to the secret of beating the creature of the week, a tough as nails government agent out of his depth when fighting the supernatural, and finally, a tremendously powerful and immortal dark antihero who joins the side of good despite his dark past (Mordred the Mystic is both Willow and Angel together, I suppose).
The second detail is that it was the first Marvel Comic with an openly gay lead character. You might have heard it was Northstar, but this is not true. Chris Cooper is openly gay himself and always fought for inclusion of this nature. Victoria Montesi’s debut predates Northstar coming out of the closet (a comic, incidentally, that Chris Cooper wrote as associate editor on Alpha Flight, so he worked on both).
There are, likewise, many candidates for who the first gay character in Star Trek is, but one of the characters with the strongest claim to this title is Chris Cooper’s Yoshi Mishima in his Starfleet Academy series.
Tumblr media
Chris Cooper eventually left Marvel Comics after the 90s. Nothing happened. Most people in a freelance job like comic editing and writing are not Chris Claremont, who are there for decades. Careers in the arts don’t last forever, and they have to come to an end sometime, where you go and get a real job.
But Chris Cooper came up again decades later in the news, was the subject of an incident in 2020 when birdwatching in Central Park (he’d been a member of a birdwatching society at Harvard), where he was threatened by a female jogger, who said she would call the police as he threatened her, when we can see he did no such thing. The incident was known as either “the Central Park Birdwatching Incident” or the “Central Park Karen.”
Tumblr media
Looking at the footage now, it’s easy to see why it was national news and viral on the internet. Apart from the obvious racial angle, it is a chilling reminder of how a woman’s vulnerability can become a weapon, and how man’s strength can turn into a vulnerability.
All the while watching the incident, I was like "...the Darkhold Redeemers guy? No, it couldn't be...it's probably a coincidence, Chris Cooper is a very common name." But nope, it really was the Starfleet Academy guy from the 90s.
Chris Cooper received a birdwatching show on National Geographic, and inspired many black people to go into birdwatching, but I could care less about birdwatching. I would like to see what happened next with Darkhold Redeemers and Starfleet Academy, which ended at a cliffhanger with a lot of unresolved plot points.

Slashers I will not see the movie due to final girl/main protagonist/me being indecisive, but I still want to learn about them so I may watch the movie if convinced.
Please note, this is coming from someone who has never seen any of these movies so please be mindful.
Try to convince me:
——————————————
Jesse Cromeans
Nickname(s) I gave him: Silver Skull/The Advanced Money Hunter guy. (That was the first nickname)
(Movie: Laid to Rest (2009)
Tumblr media
He looks cool. His mask is really nice. He looks rich. The reason I am unsure if I should watch the movie is because of the protagonist.
Vincent Sinclair
Nickname(s) that I gave him: The craftsman (he looks like a crafter.) Shy Boi.
(Movie: House of Wax 2005)
Tumblr media
I like his design. He looks so fucking cool. I don’t like his brother (Bo), saw our protagonists, didn’t really care for them, and overall was going to avoid this movie all together, and then I saw Vincent and went ‘maybe I’ll give it a chance.’
No. I have not watched it. Someone give me a reason to.
???
(Movie: The Collector 2009???)
Nickname(s) I gave him: The Collector, creepy mofo, Amateur Roman Sionis on a tight budget.
Tumblr media
I don’t like the guy’s mask. I like his style tho. He’s not afraid to get his hands dirty. And I may or may not watch this movie. However please know whether I watch the movie or not, I still will be watching puppy videos after.
Next:
Daniel Robatallie Candyman
(Movie: The Candyman 1992)
Nickname(s) : Murder-Beetlejuice, Charming Man, The Bee Summoner!
Tumblr media
Tony Todd did an absolute fabulous job. That is not enough reasons to convince me.
That being said, if someone can convince me, or give me a reason that I should watch the movie, I will watch the movie. Bonus points if you can get me to watch it alone. (I usually watch my horror movies with other people, the exceptions being 1978‘s Halloween and 2016‘s Hush)

And finally… No I have not seen any movie in the series. I just don’t know if I should.
Pamela Voorhees:
Nickname(s) I gave her: The lady with the blue sweater, The lady who Desperately needs a hug, and Crazy mama!
Tumblr media
Listen…
I do not know this woman. I don’t know why she’s upset. I don’t know why she’s murdering people, but apparently as it was mentioned in the first scream movie (1996), she was the first killer in the Friday The 13th series.
Still hesitant to watch but I would protect this lady with my life… and you know… maybe give her an emotional support plushie.
Part 2?

Nemesis 2: Nebula (1995)
Tumblr media
You have to wait a little to understand why people call 1992’s Nemesis a Terminator ripoff. The visual resemblances aren’t there in the first scene. The theme of mechanical infiltrators is buried beneath a jumble of needlessly labyrinthine would-be spy work. That’s not the case with Nemesis 2: Nebula. This is unmistakenly a clone of the 1995 sci-fi classic (despite coming XX years after), which makes it much more fun.
73 after the previous film (and featuring none of the characters we saw during that cliffhanger of an ending), humans have lost the Cyborg Wars. Rebel scientists have developed a new strain of DNA and bred a saviour who can free us from our mechanical oppressors. To escape them, Alex (played as an adult by Sue Price) is sent back in time to 1980. 20 years later, a cyborg bounty hunter named Nebula (Chad Stahelski) arrives to kill her before she can win the battle for the future…
Details have been tweaked. Nebula isn’t after Sarah Connor, she’s after John, who is a woman… so basically Sarah Connor. There’s no Kyle Reese because, as a super soldier with enhanced DNA, Alex looks more like Arnold Schwarzenegger than Lynda Hamilton. The film isn’t set in the United States, it’s in East Africa because… it’s much cheaper to shoot there! Like the T-800, Nebula can infiltrate our society without arousing suspicion. Either with its cloaking forcefield, which makes it kinda invisible in a way that’s ripping off Predator or by hiding off-screen and killing everyone it encounters before they can sound the alarm. It’s vague. I suspect they wanted to mask how crappy their monster looked by throwing a bunch of effects on top. It's a little more likely a reason than filmmaker Albert Pyun choosing to rip off not one, but two Schwarzenegger action movies at once.
This is a perfect film to pair up with Terminator. Obviously, the plots are similar but Nemesis 2 perfectly highlights just what makes the 1984 James Cameron movie so good. Sure Price has the physique to be an action star but she’s got exactly zero charisma and just as much screen presence. Her character is so poorly developed and defined, her dialogue is so limited, she might as well be a robot herself. You basically watch her run around, dispatching one fool after another with the insectoid-looking killer in tow, reducing everything in sight to cinders. You get a sense she might’ve had more material on paper but that many of her lines got cut because of her atrocious performance.
The whole thing’s constructed like a robot made of cardboard and bubblegum. The tribe who discovers Alex somehow knows her name. The beginning of the movie is entirely subtitled because obviously no one there would speak English… until Alex is on her own and it’s revealed she’s known the language since birth. That's a headscratcher. Nemesis 2 repeatedly and severely underestimates how much we’ll like or dislike the people we encounter on this adventure. You’re desperate for something to latch onto. You’re having fun at the movie’s expense, cracking jokes at the lousy production and quoting your favorite lines from the Terminator series when we meet Emily (Tina Cote), a woman taken prisoner by some bad guys. Alex rescues Emily (and her dialogue-free friend who serves basically no purpose). Now, you expect the pair to bond. Compared to Sue Price, Tina is a deity of theater. Obviously, she’ll stick around. Maybe she'll even be the “Sarah Connor” to Alex’s “Kyle Reese”. I know I’m not the only one getting strong lesbian vibes from the movie so you REALLY think something will come of their meeting… but no! From the way the film ends, we’re supposed to dislike Emily and think her a villain! It’s one of the many bewildering turns the story takes.
Nemesis 2: Nebula can be fun to watch when paired with the right movie and crowd. It’s an ineptly directed and shoddily assembled film with a thin plot and minimal dialogue. You can easily follow it while basically hurling things at the screen. It’s no classic but if you’re making your way through the series and want to make an event out of it, then I say throw this one in the mix. (On Blu-ray, July 26, 2019)

hiiii thanks for rbing my horror recs post a while back! sorry it took me a bit but here's your recs! :)
based on eraserhead (i just watched this last night and it changed me as a person so thank you. augh) i'd recommend you possession (1981), antichrist (2009) (extremely explicit both sexually and violently so beware!), rosemary's baby (1968), the babadook (2014), the lodge (2019), titane (2021) and mother! (2017) because they're all insane movies about parenthood/not wanting to be a parent.
based on the conjuring i'd recommend you veronica (2017), oculus (2013), the dark and the wicked (2020), the others (2001), the orphanage (2007), we are still here (2015), terrified (2017) and silent hill (2006) because they're all sad movies about haunted families.
based on bride of chucky i'd recommend you lisa frankenstein (2024), jennifer's body (2009), all cheerleaders die (2013), elvira, mistress of evil (1988), death becomes her (1992), the craft (1996) and ready or not (2019) because they've got some of my fav female horror characters who may or may not kill someone every now and then.
based on cloverfield i'd recommend you the host (2006), a quiet place (2018), troll hunter (2010), nope (2022), the thing (1982), the descent (2005) and shin godzilla (2016), underwater (2020) and alien (1979) because they're some of my favourite anxiety inducing creature horrors.
based on scream i'd recommend you urban legend (1998), behind the mask: the rise of leslie vernon (2006), house of wax (2005), you're next (2011), haunt (2019), the final girls (2015) and totally killer (2023) because they're some of my fav female lead (comedy) horrors.
based on ginger snaps i'd recommend you may (2002), let the right one in (2008), bones and all (2022), raw (2016), stoker (2013) and carrie (1976) because they're all about young women going through something bloody.
hope there's some you haven't seen yet! :)
Omg thank you???!! I’m literally adding ALL OF THESE to my watchlist 🖤🖤

FAVORITE WESTERNS of SCOTT RITTER.
Tumblr media
Today I am going to present Scott Ritter's 3 favorite western movies, which is as good as any talking point. These movies are...
955-1
1 THE SEARCHERS
2 UNFORGIVEN
3 OPEN RANGE
(LONELY DOVE) TV SERIES
Though not to muy surprise, John Wayne's THE SEARCHER I must confess John Wayne is not a favorite of mine and I dislike how he comes across with this snug Irish gunslinger demeanor about him which rings totally false, but Scott pricked my ear. So I am going to take it upon myself to see it
Tumblr media
The Searchers is a 1956 American epic Western film directed by John Ford and written by Frank S. Nugent, based on the 1954 novel by Alan Le May. It is set during the Texas-Native American wars, and stars John Wayne as a middle-aged Civil War veteran who spends years looking for his abducted niece (Natalie Wood), accompanied by his adopted nephew (Jeffrey Hunter).
The film is considered a masterpiece and one of the greatest and most influential films ever made.
In 1989, The Searchers was deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" by the United States Library of Congress, and selected for preservation in its National Film Registry; it was one of the first 25 films selected for the registry. The Searchers - Wikipedia

Tumblr media
Unforgiven is a 1992 American Western film starring, directed, and produced by Clint Eastwood, and written by David Webb Peoples. The film tells the story of William Munny, an aging outlaw and killer who takes on one more job, years after he had turned to farming. The film co-stars Gene Hackman, Morgan Freeman, and Richard Harris.
The film won four Academy Awards: Best Picture and Best Director for Eastwood, Best Supporting Actor for Hackman, and Best Film Editing for Joel Cox. Eastwood was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance, but he lost to Al Pacino for Scent of a Woman. The film was the third Western to win Best Picture, following Cimarron (1931) and Dances with Wolves (1990). Eastwood dedicated the film to directors and mentors Sergio Leone and Don Siegel.

In 2004, Unforgiven was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". The film was remade into a 2013 Japanese film, also titled Unforgiven, which stars Ken Watanabe and changes the setting to the early Meiji era in Japan.
955-4
Eastwood has long asserted that the film would be his last traditional Western, concerned that any future projects would simply rehash previous plot lines or imitate someone else's work. Unforgiven - Wikipedia
Tumblr media
Open Range is a 2003 American Revisionist Western film directed and co-produced by Kevin Costner, written by Craig Storper, based on the novel The Open Range Men by Lauran Paine, starring Robert Duvall and Costner. Open Range (2003 film) - Wikipedia
A former gunslinger is forced to take up arms again when he and his cattle crew are threatened by a corrupt lawman.

The founder of the team is Jane and Sully is the co-founder.
Their victims consist of Jeff look-a-likes or people who are associated with Jeff in any way.
There are five former members which are Homicidal Liu, Nina the Killer, Troy Green, Keith Davis, and Screaming Dawn.
They were responsible for the Jeff Murders of Halloween 2015 which was a series of murders which took the lives of 6 Jeff cosplayers and injured about 78 Jeff cosplayers who were never could recall their attempted murderers names.
Helen is the one who helps cover the tracks of the crime scenes.
They have a team briefing every month on the 10th.
Sully is also the weapons specialist and has many guns and weapons stored in his closet.
Most of their victims are either tortured and made into sculptures by Helen, burned alive by Randy, sacrificed by Dina, brutally stabbed by Jane, or shot to death by Sully.
Mary mostly is used to spy on the Jeff look-a-likes to get the information such as their locarion, address, etc.
Jessie is the team medic and often helps her teammates if they get injured during their missions.
The longest standing member of the Jeff Hunters is Sully.
They have their own individual costumes for when they go out on their crime sprees and missions so no one will know their identity.
Their main goal is to find Jeff and either kill him or turn him into the police (Jane and Sully argue about that a lot).
Clockwork is the most motivated member of the team as she is the one who wants revenge on Jeff the most.
They keep handheld radios on them during their missions.
