Earl Klugh: “A Time For Love” from Late Night Guitar (1980)

I don’t have this in my library, but should. I purchased seven (!) of his records out of the used bins during my second record-store victory tour last year, including his collaboration with Bob James (1979′s One On One) and the ultra-fine How To Beat The High Cost Of Living with Hubert Laws (1980). It’s right outside the cusp of the Seventies jazz / fusion records I chase after but sounds like it could, so what’s my problem? 

Spin through “A Time For Love” and you’ll realize it’s the slowed down version of Raekwon’s summertime hit “Ice Cream” (1995). You’d be forgiven if you thought you heard piano keys, but it’s really Klugh plucking through delicately at half the speed before RZA’s added punch.
