so we’re already in the middle of rarepair week! (and my exams huhu i wish i did better in stat today, but blegh, i got the schoolworks to back my ass)

The thought keeps on slipping through his fingers, much like his sanity that has long been shoved under the rug for the sake of useless frivolities (the Guild has much of such, so it’s no question that Steinbeck has most likely been dead inside already).

Yet whenever he is sane, he keeps wondering, wondering, wondering, and thoughts won’t ever leave him. He is fond of entertaining thoughts, yes, but then again it makes him panic, it makes him unstable. He doesn’t want to entertain thoughts for the time being because.

He’d rather be sane when something much more important happens, because then he’ll remember clearly the things he doesn’t want to forget.

(He would rather be sane when he is with Lovecraft, long fingers traversing arched plains, caressing damp skin, soft moans, and warmth that fills until it bursts at the seams.)

Steinbeck is not fond of the Guild, yet he has that wandering thought, thoughts that the worst case scenarios will happen and come crashing down. He entertains the thoughts and he panics even more, despite the mask of his face concealing such emotions, he wonders what will happen at the end of the war and of all this bullshit.

(The prospect of coming home to his family was tempting, but so, so far away. It was painful.)

“Who knows the end? What has risen may sink, and what has sunk may rise.”

Steinbeck sighed. It was a vague answer but it was the closest he could get that could reassure him momentarily. Lovecraft was fond of vagueness anyway (sleeping underwater was one of them).

“There will be losses,” Steinbeck mused. Lovecraft regarded his statement with a soft grunt and a nod, his action stiff, as though he was not used to moving his body parts as fluidly as a normal human being should.

Like you, Steinbeck thought.

But it remained a thought.

It made him panic.

We had a lot of fun discussing how John shoo Lovecraft because his hair is such a mess and John can't take a breath without having it in his mouth.
