I can’t believe I’ll be on my way to see mountains and giant trees via a train (Sequoia/kings canyon National park) in less than a day, but I’m already missing some things at home. They’re in good hands though!
New kitty Frida had her vet appointment yesterday and did great. Double cat drama can resume post vacation. Wish me luck, and I will return with big tree memories in September!

Distracting myself from some stupid/bad things between projects by posting a Hoya update. They’re all doing so well it’s kinda ridiculous.
H. Callistophylla (4 and 5) and H. krohniana “super silver” (photo 3) wasted absolutely no time after shipping making new growth. Callistophylla has made a GINORMOUS leaf in the span of a week and a half and is working on its second. I’m baffled but amused. H. “Sunrise” (photo 6) is also growing fast, but not showing the trademark sun stressing yet, which is probably because it’s in a tree shaded west facing window.
H. Linearis (photo 2) is being pretty chill so far, which also defies my expectations, and H. “Lisa” (photo 9) has finally decided to trust me after a rough two months in my care. H. Kerrii (photo 7) is plodding along, and my beloved H. obovata (photos 8, 10) has decided flowers are just as fun as leaves. Priorities?
First photo is my rather old H. carnosa “krimson queen” that I bought 8 years ago. She’s longer than I am tall, and thusly can’t really be moved without a big theatrical event. She really needs a shower, though…
And yes, almost all of them have names.

Feeling beleaguered, post hoyas.
Despite the ongoing warm weather tantrum, the sunrise decided to grace me with her very first bloom. She kicked off two other peduncles due to being thirstier than I realized, but now I understand that I need to really keep on top of it right now. Sad to be losing all those would-be blooms, but some hoyas are like that. The bloom smelled a little like Froot Loops, but a little spicy? I liked it!
Last photo shows my first bloom of the season from my obovata, who is preparing for quite the season. (6 of 8 peduncles have blooms arriving). A much more easygoing hoya whose only “tantrum” is just turning into a statue for a while. I think the blooms smell like peonies when freshly opened.
The goal for this year is to get all plants to grow peduncles, even though the more reasonable goal is to get all my bloom ready plants to bloom. I’ve had three new plants make blooms so far this year, with hopes to get 4 more!
