On the Fence
So I decided to watch Pirates of the Caribbean and now Pirate Obi is living back in my head rent free. I'm using a starter from the cliched list here :
There's people chasing us and I pulled you into an alley and wow you're close.
Summary: This sorta is the prologue to all the other Pirate!Obi stuff. Or sorta the prologue. If I ever get around to turning this into a larger thing, I'll probably have all these pieces to string together.
Word count: ~1100
Pairing: Pirate!Obi x You
Warnings: None
The urge to keep looking over your shoulder kept nagging at you. You kept your face trained carefully on the market place ahead of you, pretending to inspect the fruit in the stand to your right. Still, you couldn't shake the feeling that you were being watched. It was making you regret sneaking out of your father's estate to come down to the bazaar, but the vendors were having a special sale and you couldn't wait until the new year for the traders from the north to come south again. Not when you were running low on supplies.
You'd read through all the books in your father's library. You were getting tired of the mundanity of the island, and this was the closest you'd get to freedom, your whole life planned out for you already. The Count's visit coinciding with your debut ball hardly seemed to be anything but planned. Your hand brushed along the cover of a brown leather novel sitting on the table. Treasure Island. You smiled wistfully at the idea of pirates. There hadn't been a pirate in port in years. Not since the navy built a fort. You pressed two gold coins into the palm of the seller and tucked the book into your basket. There weren't many gold coins left in your purse, so you'd have to be frugal about how you spent them. You pulled your hood further down your face and moved onto the next booth when you caught a grisly looking man staring a little too hard at your face.
This vendor was selling jewelry. Necklaces with glittering gems and bracelets made of precious metal. Your eye caught on a particular ring, the gem as blue as the deep sea. With a shake of your head, you moved on. You couldn't spend your money on trinkets. Not that you needed another one, that is. As you went to move on, a hand reached out and pulled you into an alley. Their hand clamped down on your mouth to stifle a scream. It smelled like salt.
"Shhhh, lass. I won't hurt you," he murmured. His voice had a lilt to it, and an accent that you hadn't heard in a while. He turned you so you could face him and you were met with the most handsome man you'd ever seen. His sandy brown hair fell into his eyes, and you could faintly make out a dimple under his short beard. A cutlass hung from his side.
Pirate.
His eyes widened, following your gaze. "I won't hurt you, lass," he repeated the words slowly and gently. "Now I'm going to remove my hand."
True to his word, he lifted his hand from your mouth.
"Why did you pull me in here?" you demanded, poking him hard in the chest.
He waved you closer to the edge of the alley and nodded towards that grisly figure you'd seen earlier. "You see him?"
"What's so special about him?" you asked.
"That's Hondo," he murmured. "And having his attention won't do you an ounce of good. Although, I don't know what he'd want with you, lass. He typically doesn't come on land often, and when he does, it isn't for women." He sounded puzzled.
You turned to look up at him, realizing just how close you were to him, close enough to feel his breath on your cheek, and took a step back, swallowing the lump in your throat. You averted your eyes from his lips, which for some reason the close proximity had given you a very good look at. "I didn't realize a pirate would fear another pirate."
"Who said I'm a pirate, lass?"
You raised your brow at him and gestured to his... everything.
He smirked. "I don't fear him. I just would rather not engage in the defense of a lady here if I can help it." He licked his lips. "I don't need to start a fight that could endanger civilians."
"Don't pirates attack civilian ships all the time?" you asked incredulously, confused at this man's morals.
"I don't," he said, thumb pointing at his chest. "Now, lass, I'll give you a boost over the fence at the end of the alley and I want you to go straight home. Can you do that?"
"Who are you to order me around?" you scoffed.
"I'm a Captain. I'm used to giving the orders."
"Well, you aren't on your ship now, Captain," you teased.
He groaned. "Lass, please. I'd feel a lot better going to sleep tonight if I knew that that ugly devil didn't have an innocent beauty in his clutches."
"So this is strictly to ease your conscience," you said with a sigh, not quite sure why you felt disappointed by that, walking towards the aforementioned fence. You knew it would lead to the back of the inn, and from there you could cut back through the Menningson's garden and be on the border of your estate within the hour with your father being none the wiser of your disappearance if all went according to plan. You reached a hand up to grab the top of the fence. His hands came up to your waist to help hoist you up. They were warm through the bodice of your dress. He looked up at you, perched on top of the fence. You couldn't tell if his cheeks were red from the sun or something else.
"Fairwell, lass." He said, a soft smile on his face. His eyes were so incredibly blue.
"Fair seas and kind skies, Captain," you replied before dropping down to the other side. You landed with a plop, dusting off your skirts as you stood. He was a strange pirate, you thought. Not that you'd have any pirate to really compare him to. You replayed your interaction in your head, marveling at how kind he had been.
And then you remembered that he'd called you a beauty and blushed, heat stinging your cheeks.
The forest lining your estate came into view and you picked up your pace, noting the position of the sun in the sky. You'd lost time talking to the pirate, and now you were sure you'd be caught and scolded by your mother coming to fetch you for tea if you didn't hurry. Your skirts swished around you as you ran, the hood flying off your head. Branches snapped under your feet, masking the sound of the others in the wood with you.
Your father's estate rose ahead of you, white marble and imposing as it gleamed in the sun. Your window was still open, giving you hope. Grabbing the trellis like a ladder, you climbed back into your room, hiding both your purchase and your leftover money in your window seat. Closing the window, you didn't see the men hiding in the forest below, their shadows blending into the trees.

Firey Love Through Burning Sands Chapter 6: Meet & Greet
Mario and Luigi didn't know what to expect when they were brought inside the city gates.
The Koopas that were inside the city were a bit of a shock when they first arrived, considering the fact that the only Koopas that they had seen at that point were all from Bowser's kingdom. But out of all they had seen, nothing had prepared them for seeing other human beings. For the past month, Mario thought that he, Luigi, and Princess Peach were the only humans ever to see the land beyond the green pipe. But not only did Sarasaland seem to have human royalty, but they also had regular citizens and military members that were currently walking alongside them.
The city itself reminded the brothers of a documentary about ancient Egypt that they watched in middle school. Although the part of the city that they had passed through had a wall and gates, the entire city seemed to stretch out for miles without end. There was a big river that passed through the city, and the group crossed a gigantic stone bridge to pass it that was decorated with carvings of flowers and strange dinosaur-like creatures. Crossing to the other side, the group made their way closer to the city square as the sound of music and chatter began to grow louder with each step.
"We're almost to the palace," Daisy shouted over the noise, "You might want to stay close. It gets pretty busy on Market Day."
The occupants of the city were hard at work buying and selling wares at the bazaar. Humans were seen fixing musical instruments and cooking delicious-smelling food and snacks, the Bunbuns were weaving fabrics and silks from threads that shimmered like gems, Toads were busy with constructing new stands and repairing roads, and Koopas were seen forging metalworks and jewelry, but as they passed by, the Mario Brothers began to notice that a lot of the citizens were beginning to stare and whisper the closer they got to their destination.
"Princess Peach has returned."
"Who are those little people with her?"
"The red one looks feral."
"Ha, the green one looks sickly. What are they feeding that poor thing?"
Normally, Luigi would shrink at the comments. After all, he was the more timid brother, the one that avoided any sort of confrontation, the one afraid of his own shadow. But right now, he was currently too interested in the princess that was currently dragging him through the square.
She sure is strong, Luigi thought to himself with a blush.
Meanwhile, Mario found himself falling in step with Peach, determined to get a question answered.
"Hey Peach," he asked, "How do you know the queen again?"
Peach tensed at the question, trying to find a way to answer before Daisy interrupted.
"You've seen her fight before, right? Well, where else did you think she learned combat? Her kingdom's Toads?"
Toad gave an offended yelp.
Peach gasped, taken out of her tense state at her friend's jest.
"Daisy! That's not nice."
"What? You know I'm right! At least the Toads that live here are able to use a sword."
Mario took in her words. The Toads of the Mushroom Kingdom, bless them, were more of the "panic and run" type, from the regular citizens up to the guards that surrounded the pink-and-white castle. Not to say that they weren't protective of her. By what Peach had told him, Toad himself was willing to be tortured for her when Bowser invaded her kingdom after he and DK had been stuck in that gigantic eel. But he knew that whatever fighting skills she had to complete that training course that he couldn't even get through on his BEST go-around was not the doing of the Toads.
At least not from there.
"Huh, so is she, like, your teacher? I mean, that's cool, y'know? You're still able to get advice from her when you need to. But why haven't you mentioned her?"
"We're here."
Peach blanched as they suddenly stopped.
The white marble of the palace gleamed in the afternoon sun as the group entered the palace, the white stone now turning into shades of orange and yellow as they headed towards another set of golden doors that were guarded by two Bunbuns, the door itself decorated with a giant lotus blossom design. The Bros and Toad couldn't help themselves as they ooh'd and ahh'd at the sight before them.
Peach, meanwhile, felt her palms grow sweaty from nervousness. Although it was true that she was raised by the Toads when she first arrived in this land, it was the Queen of Sarasaland who taught her how to be a leader. All of the training to become the Princess of the Mushroom Kingdom, all of her combat skills, her knowledge of power-ups, all of what made her a princess came from her.
And what had she done with that wisdom?
Oh, only put two whole kingdoms and her friends in danger!
Daisy, sensing her distress, let go of Luigi's hand and stood next to her.
"You ready?"
Peach stayed silent as she straightened her posture.
"Not really." She finally answered before turning to her companions.
"Okay, I know you probably have a lot of questions about, well, all of this. And I must confess that I haven't been very... transparent. But when we get in here, I'll be doing most of the talking."
The Bros and Toad stared at her in confusion before slowly nodding their heads.
"Alright Daisy, we're ready now."
Princess Daisy nodded her head, signaling the guards to open the doors.
The group followed the princess as she entered the throne room, taking in the sights surrounding them. The entire room was the same orange-yellow color scheme as the rest of the palace, but accented with green and white inlays as you got closer to the actual throne. The throne itself was golden, not unlike King Cranky's own throne in the Jungle Lands, but above the throne were white silk drapes, and at her right hand was an orange and yellow cushion with golden tassels around the edge.
It was then that they noticed the woman sitting on the throne.
The older woman sat with her back straight, her eyes seeming to stare directly into their souls as she scanned the room before turning her gaze toward Princess Peach.
Princess Daisy, leading the charge, walked towards the steps before kneeling on the ground at the very base. The four companions followed suit, with Daisy nearly causing Luigi to topple over himself as she dragged him down to the floor and Mario being pushed down by Peach as she sank down.
"Bayete, Indlovukazi," Daisy spoke up, "Your visitors have arrived."
The queen paused for a moment, her gaze switching between the princesses and the plumbers, a tiny smile gracing her lips before motioning for Daisy to sit on the cushion and for Peach, Mario, Luigi, and Toad to stand up.
"Welcome to Birabuto; I take it your journey here was a smooth one?"
Princess Peach smoothed her skirts as she answered.
"Yes, your Majesty. And I would like for you to meet my friends, Mario, Luigi, and Toad."
The queen's gaze was unwavering as she noticed their body language. Mario and Toad had placed themselves directly in front of her former student, becoming a living shield. Luigi, who for whatever reason was still on the floor, floundered his way next to his brother, almost knocking the three of them over to join the protection squad. Daisy couldn't help but give an amused giggle, making Luigi break out in a deep blush.
"So, you must be the Super Mario Brothers and that brave Toad boy that saved the universe. You have my respect and my thanks. Now, let's cut to the chase, shall we?"
Peach cleared her throat.
"Yes, um, as I had stated in my letter, we have had some problems with the king of the Darklands that resulted in him finally being captured and taken into custody inside the Mushroom Kingdom."
"Hm, I do recall meeting with the council members that were involved in that whole ordeal. But what does this have to do with Sarasaland and our Power Star? "
Council? Mario thought to himself, Did the Toad Council visit Sarasaland?
"Your Majesty," Peach stated, "Bowser has escaped from his confinement, and it's my belief that he will attempt to take Sarasaland's Power Star and use it for his plans for world domination.
Unbeknownst to the others, Taraji's blood ran cold in her veins, the images of last night's vision practically swimming in her mind.
"Go on."
But before Peach could continue, Mario interrupted.
"Wait a minute, the Toad council met with you already?"
Princess Peach's cheeks turned bright red as a wave of second-hand embarrassment crashed into her. In hindsight, she should have seen this coming, especially when they met with King Cranky. Luigi and Toad looked on anxiously as the queen held the red plumber's gaze before answering.
"No. Princess Peach, just how much have you told your companions about our ways?"
"Well, I...haven't mentioned everything to them."
Peach couldn't help but give a nervous chuckle as her teacher gave her a pointed look.
"A half-truth by omission is still a full-on lie. But that is a discussion for another day. In the meantime, you all will stay here for the night and rest. Tomorrow morning, the council will arrive, and we will convene on what our next steps are going forward."
With a clap of her hands, a couple of her servants gathered around the throne room.
With little room for argument, the servants quietly led the four of them out of the throne room, the door shutting behind them.
"Take our guests to our spare bedrooms. Dinner will be prepared in a few hours."
Later
Princess Peach tossed and turned in her bed, her mind racked with dread.
Dinner had been a rather quiet affair, as was any dinner that was made by the queen herself. The table was filled with rice and beans, a savory stew filled with meat and vegetables with nshima to scoop it up and eat with, and even (to her surprise) malva pudding, all of her favorites. But she couldn't even stomach it. Even the few bites she forced down her throat turned sour in her gut as that pit of despair grew larger and larger.
The council members were all arriving tomorrow in order to figure out how to capture Bowser and what to do with him in order to pay for his crimes.
Again.
And it was all her fault.
Giving up on going to sleep, Peach got up from the bed and began to pace the room, feeling guilty as the queen's words replayed in her head.
A half-truth by omission is still a full-on lie.
Does it even count as a lie? She thought to herself before shaking her head.
As a ruler, she was honor-bound to be an honest and wise princess, whether it was between other leaders or with the common folk. She had learned that from the best, after all.
But she didn't mean to keep Sarasaland or its ruler a secret. It just...never came up in conversation between her and the Mario Brothers. And why she didn't go to Sarasaland when this whole problem began?
It was...complicated.
Her thoughts were interrupted by a sudden knock on the door.
"Come in."
The door slowly opened to reveal Taraji, her hair in her bonnet and dressed in her white nightgown and robe as she smiled at her former student. Behind her stood Daisy, dressed in an orange tank top, shorts, and matching bonnet. Peach, ever the formalist, curtsied.
"Bayete, Indlovukazi. Bayete, Inkosazana."
Their smiles fell slightly in concern. Peach was always the prim and proper type. Had been that way since she was a little girl under Taraji's tutoring. But that was the first time in years that she had used their official titles, and in their native tongue nonetheless, while being in just their presence. She only ever did that when something was terribly wrong.
"Peach? What's wrong?" Taraji asked, a frown on her face.
Peach blanched for a moment.
"What, me? No, nothing's wrong. Nothing at all. Why? What would be wrong?"
Daisy snorted, unconvinced.
"Yeah right! You never call us by those titles unless something's up. So, spill!"
Peach shook her head, resuming her pacing as the two other royals watched.
"I'm fine. Just... got a lot on my mind right now."
Taraji said nothing at that. Instead, she sighed as she sat herself down on the vanity seat and grabbed the hairbrush that sat on the table.
"Sit down."
"But-"
"Sit."
With a sigh, Peach sat on the floor as Taraji began to brush her hair. Daisy, meanwhile, took a running start from the door and jumped onto her bed, jostling the bedsheets into more disarray. Rolling her eyes at her sister, Taraji turned her attention back to Peach.
"Now, tell me what's really going on. Why didn't you ask the council to help you in the first place?"
"I...It's just...I just...didn't want to bother them with something that I could handle by myself."
The two of them gave her an incredulous look.
"You're kidding, right?" Daisy deadpanned.
Taraji paused her brushing.
"Peach, I know that the situation was more dire than that. If reports from the last council meeting were correct, Bowser had not only captured the king of the Snow Lands and stolen their Power Star; but he also had threatened the safety of your kingdom and your people if you refused to marry him; he had ambushed and nearly killed the king and prince of Kong Country as well as the majority of the Kong army; and had threatened the lives of your red plumber, his brother, and their homeland. And this was all something you could have handled by yourself?"
Silence.
Daisy's eyes glanced between her friend and her sister, concerned.
"Look," she spoke up, "I don't like half of those stuffy folks either, but they're there for a reason, you know that, right?"
Peach jumped up at that, a huff of frustration escaping her lips.
"I know that! But... I can't help but feel as if I'm taken as a joke. I'm the only council member that is a princess; according to some members, my rule is illegitimate since I wasn't born a Mushroom Kingdom royal; and Bowser has been so much of a constant problem, I wasn't sure that they would listen to me! What else could I do? I-"
"Ipentshisi."
Peach turned around, her eyes cast down to the ground in shame. Taraji stood up and took her hands into her own, causing her to look up.
"A good ruler, regardless of what rank they are, doesn't just take care of their kingdom. A good ruler also knows when to ask for help. Both of which King Cranky and the Penguin King should have done. And even if you didn't want the council involved, you could have at least told us. You know that Sarasaland would have stood with you, don't you?"
Peach sighed, looking back down at the floor.
"I... I guess I wanted to prove to the council that I wasn't just some 'damsel in distress'. I wanted to protect the kingdom on my own, like you do."
And there it is.
Taraji sighed, leading her back to the seat she had abandoned.
"Peach, when I first became queen, the royal council had been disbanded for over a decade. I had to learn how to protect Sarasaland on my own because I was on my own. I had no one to help me or the empire, not to mention what had transpired for me to ascend the throne."
The young princesses paused at that, looking at each other and back at the queen as she seemed to visibly deflate at the mention of that night.
"When I was able to get the council back together, I vowed never to let any new ruler experience what I had to go through. Does that mean that they are infallible? No. We are not perfect in any sense of the word, but at least you would have the security of having that support when you need it. And as for questioning your legitimacy? You may not have been born into the original royal family, and you may not have been born in this very universe, but the Great Grambi brought you here and made you the princess of the Mushroom Kingdom for a reason. Don't ever doubt that."
"I know all that, but it still doesn't answer why."
Taraji laughed at that.
"Heh, still have that patience problem, I suppose."
"Well, old habits die hard, as Mario would say."
Taraji gave another small chuckle as she recalled the little red man that seemed to be glued to her hip. No doubt that he had sworn to be her protector.
Daisy snickered.
"Oh yeah, Mr. Knight-in-Ruby-Red! Sworn to protect pretty Princess Peach! Honestly, you two would be perfect together. "
The queen laughed, a rueful smile etching her face.
"Now, now, now. Don't think I didn't see you with the green one, Daisy. You seem quite smitten with him."
Daisy spluttered.
"S-s-smitten! HA! Who says I was smitten with that guy? Nope! No smitten-ness over here!"
That sent Peach into a laughing fit.
"Oh, please! You literally dragged poor Luigi from the city gates to the palace walls!"
But in their laughter, they had failed to notice a lone figure that was spying on them from above. Though invisible for the majority of the conversation, the shapeless blob that was hovering over them sneered a malignant smirk before blipping out of the room.
The three royals laughed and laughed, their voices echoing into the halls.

my mom is a gem hound. she loves rocks, and has taught me a lot about gemstones, and loves telling me about them. she doesn't own an official business, but she does sell jewelry at bazaars and whatever chance she can get.
how i would piss off mal would be to point at something at say, "oh, that's [wrong gemstone/material], right? i love [wrong gemstone/material]!" when i know full well it is the wrong thing, and keep doing that until he got upset
(mal even makes his jewelry by hand, right? it would be like, twice the psychic damage if he had to keep explaining himself so much.)
then i would leave, because i do not want to deal with a pissed off mal.

Ahahahahhaha that would make him loose his mind

FFXII has a lot of hidden OP items that are so extremely exhausting to get... and it's honestly making me nostalgic for when this was the norm in JRPGs, for there to be ultra-rare but extremely OP weapons and armor and whatever, or hidden bosses with quadruple the stats of any other in the game, that you need to jump through hoops to unlock.
I actually really miss these kinds of gameplay elements, because even though they're usually too tedious for me to go through, they add this like... mystery to the game? Some excitement over discovering something so gamebreaking and outside the bounds of the base game? The accomplished feeling of finally getting a rare item or beating a ultra-difficult boss after hours of life spent suffering through the steps and the Game Overs. Wondering at how the HELL anyone worked out the steps to unlock the damn things. IDK how to describe it lol it's the kind of thing I feel has been lost in the era of DLC.
Right now I am struggling through hoops to get a Nihopalaoa, an accessory that reverses effects of items used on a target. This leads to the potential to throw a Remedy (status condition cure-all) at an enemy, and inflict them with every single negative status they're susceptible to (so some enemies you can toss it on and they'll get Sap/Disease/Doom/Poison/etc all at once.)
this is TL;DR and absolutely uninteresting to anyone else probably
To get this item in the Zodiac Age remaster, you have several options:
-Play through the optional Trial Mode, where you defeat waves of enemies to get to the next Trial, and after every 10 trials you get a rewrd. This accessory is stealable from the mobs on Trial 70 (out of 100)
-A chest in Henne Mines Phase 2 Dig. The chest only has a 25% chest of spawning. To access Phase 2 Dig, you first collect 10 espers (basically optional bosses that you defeat to unlock summons), and defeat a VERY difficult Hunt quest. This is actually the location for Zodiark, the most difficult esper boss to defeat, and the area is packed with over-powered mobs.
-A chest with a 5% spawn chance at Subterra, which is basically near the very end of the game
-A Bazaar purchase. The Bazaar is a way of purchasing items that only unlock as you sell Loot; different combinations of loot will unlock different bazaar goods. Nihopalaoa is unlocked by selling: Blood-stained Necklace x3, Death's Head x2, Leo Gem x3.
Leo Gems are a rare loot drop that can only be stolen from Diresaurs (basically big T-rex mobs.) They have a 3% steal rate. For the other two, you can't get them as Steal loot until you unlock the Warmage Monograph, which requires opening the Hunt Board 30 times so you can purchase the monograph form the bazaar. Blood-stained Necklace can only be stolen from Shambling Corpses, which only spawn in the area where you find the esper/boss Adrammelech. They are also continuously spawning and you are easily overwhelmed fighting them, especially if you're unable to take down Adrammelech. Death's heads are a 10% steal loot from Dark Skeletons. Dark Skeletons are in two places: Paramine Rift, where they randomly spawn in a couple zones; and Golmore Jungle, where they spawn in one specific zone only if you destroy every other mob on the map and defeat the Rare Elite Mob that spawns.
So which one of these is the easiest, most accessible option? The fourth one that involves hours upon hours of grinding in the hopes of stealing some rare drops from mobs in very annoying locations????
Yes. Yes that's the easiest one.
Anyway it took me 2 hours across a couple days to steal 2 Death's Heads and I now must go and attempt to steal 3 Blood-Stained Necklaces (thankfully I have Thief's Cuffs so the drop rate is doubled to a whopping 6%.)
Wish me fucking luck. I don't even need this accessory. I just want boss fights to be as easy as possible without losing my mind getting the ultra ultra ultra OP but extremely tedious arms.

The Ultimate Guide to Finding the Perfect Refurbished Phone Online in India
Finding the perfect refurbished phone online can be likened to treasure hunting. In the vast ocean of the internet, amidst the countless choices and options, there lies that one gem that's perfect for you. In India, where tech-savviness meets a love for value, refurbished phones have carved a niche of their own. So, grab a seat, maybe a cup of chai, and let’s dive into the ultimate guide that will lead you to your next phone treasure, shall we?
Introduction
Remember the excitement of getting a new phone? The unboxing, the first setup, the smooth operation. Now, imagine getting almost the same thrill but at a significantly lower price. That's what buying a refurbished phone is all about. It’s about making smart choices, both for your wallet and the environment. But hey, I know what you’re thinking. "Refurbished" often gets mixed up with "used and abused." Let me guide you through the fog of misconceptions and show you how to find a refurbished phone that doesn’t just meet your expectations but exceeds them.
Why Opt for a Refurbished Phone?
Refurbished phones, contrary to popular belief, are not merely used phones. They are devices that have been returned to the manufacturer or seller for various reasons, checked, repaired if necessary, and restored to their original glory.
Cost-Efficient: Who doesn't like saving money? With refurbished phones, you can access high-end models at a fraction of their original price.
Eco-Friendly: By choosing refurbished, you’re giving a phone a second life, reducing e-waste, and contributing to a greener planet.
Quality Assurance: Reputable sellers put refurbished phones through rigorous testing, ensuring they meet quality standards.
Where to Find Refurbished Phones Online in India
Navigating the online marketplace for refurbished phones in India is like finding your way through a bazaar. It's vibrant, diverse, and full of opportunities if you know where to look.
Official Brand Stores: Many major smartphone brands have started selling refurbished models directly through their websites. This is usually the safest bet.
Certified Refurbished Platforms: Websites like 2GUD by Flipkart, Amazon Renewed, and Cashify specialize in selling refurbished gadgets and offer warranties and easy return policies.
Online Retailers: Some trusted online retailers also offer refurbished phones, often with good deals and warranties.
Tips for Making a Wise Refurbished Phone Purchase
Understand the Grading System
Refurbished phones come with grades that denote their condition. Here's a quick breakdown:
Grade A: Like new or very lightly used.
Grade B: May have slight cosmetic blemishes but nothing major.
Grade C: Noticeable wear and tear but fully functional.
Check the Warranty and Return Policy
Always look for a refurbished phone that comes with a warranty. A 6-12 month warranty offers peace of mind. Also, a friendly return policy ensures you’re not stuck with a device that doesn’t meet your expectations.
Inspect the Battery Life
Battery life is crucial. While you might not always get detailed info online, some sellers do offer a battery health guarantee. If it’s not mentioned, don’t hesitate to ask.
Verify Seller Reputation
Read reviews, ask questions, and ensure you’re buying from a reputable source. Good customer service and transparent processes are green flags.
Personal Anecdote
I remember snagging my first refurbished smartphone online. It was a flagship model from a year ago, and honestly, I was a bit skeptical. But when it arrived, I couldn't tell it apart from a brand new one. It worked flawlessly, and guess what? I saved enough money to buy those wireless earbuds I’d been eyeing. Part two of my notes on my No Patience season 2!
Hop Pop begins really sweating, since they’ll need the box for the first temple but he buried it in Wartwood, so he asks Andrias to lend them a ride back to Wartwood to pick it up from his “contacts” so they can get moving. What follows is essentially After the Rain, but Marcy is less angry and more dejected, losing motivation and trust for Hop Pop, which vicariously forces her to re-question her friendship with Sasha and Anne, as she sees a lot of Sasha in Hop Pop and they’d often do things for her own good without consulting her beforehand, especially Sasha. Though the box would be recovered, Marcy would remain quiet to anyone but Maddie as they’d return to Newtopia and finish up the preparations for the first temple. The first temple would go with Marcy sort of forcing herself to focus solely on the puzzles, not wanting to think about what Hop Pop did. However, during the Flipwart game Maddie would be forced to attack everyone else on the board, and she’d end up confessing that she was angry on Marcy’s part for what Hop Pop did to her, saying that it was really messed up to hide that without the intention of ever revealing the truth, but that she’d refrained from cursing him or anything because she knew only Marcy could make that call. This would force Marcy to confront the situation and make it truly real to her, and she’d get angry and cry about it, citing how Hop Pop was deciding for himself what was best for her just like Anne and Sasha, revealing the root of the problem. They’d talk it out as she’d reevaluate her strategy to win without any casualties, but as Maddie would come for Hop Pop, Marcy would throw the game and they’d make a break for it. She’d go on to say that she’s still upset and needs time to forgive him, but she apologizes for being so childish about things and refusing to talk about it. Hop Pop would propose they take some time apart from each other, organize things they can do by themselves or in the company of others and keep their one on one interactions to a minimum until they were ready to talk it out fully, which Marcy agrees with easily. They recharge the wit stone, everyone feeling better about the whole ordeal and letting Andrias know that they’ll be heading back to Wartwood while they try to figure out how to reach the next temple. Marcy feels oddly possessive of the wit stone, a strange kinship she can’t fully describe, but with it charged she’s already less pale and sickly and more energetic than she’s been in a long while. They follow the green stone to the second temple, where Marcy is singled out by Valeriana, the two meeting once again after the bizarre bazaar fiasco, and the gang is very confused when the second temple just doesn’t seem to exist. Marcy is confronted by Valeriana for her past misdeeds, especially in stealing the music box and leaving her friends and family behind. Marcy admits to her wrongdoing and acknowledges that, though her friends weren’t great to her, she wasn’t all too good back always dragging them into things without thinking to ask if they wanted or not. Valeriana flings herself at Marcy in a last ditch effort, falling over the edge, but Marcy catches her and pulls her back up, passing the trial. Valeriana charges the heart stone, but Marcy can hear the screams of the frogs dealing with the giant cardinals and fidgets, unsure of what to do. In the end, she grabs the gem early and rushes off to save her friends, earning her a mysterious smile from the one-armed newt as the strange other realm crumbles away. The gang leave with the gem partially charged; they try looking for Valeriana again to finish the process, but she’s mysteriously vanished. So, they press on. They take a bit of a breather between temples, getting back on track with the farm, and Marcy doing even more part-time jobs than before thanks to her better health, her main one being selling potions with Maddie.
Yup, I’mma need three parts at least

Chapter Nine: Swordsmanship
Rune sat at the edge of Skyloft, on a grassy little pocket of land beyond the waterfall cavern. He closed his eyes and let the wind blow through his hair.
This was...nice. It finally felt quiet again, like when he camped alone back in Hyrule. No more crowded housing, no more bright lights, no more having to fingerspeak with strangers he didn't need to...
He lay back in the grass, examining the gold rupee he'd swiped. It looked so much...larger than the ones back home. Was it still worth the same amount here? ...Did that even matter? 300 rupees had a LOT more purchasing power on this island, if the diner was anything to go by. If he and Groose were careful about it, they could probably get an oil tarp, maybe some extra weapons and a large pelt...Was there anything up here that made pelts large enough to sleep under?
A sharp whistle startled him out of his thoughts. He leapt to his feet, stuffing the rupee in his pocket and drawing his sword, free hand on his slate.
"Rune!"
Rune relaxed at the voice, sheathing his sword. Groose's navy blue loftwing swooped in with expert grace, landing on the largest segment of the isle's shelf and kneeling down to let its rider dismount.
The redhead marched over and grabbed Rune's shoulders, eyes narrowed as he inspected the hero critically. "...You hurt?"
Rune raised an eyebrow and shook his head.
"Good. Great. Fantastic." He said sarcastically, then shook Rune's shoulders. "What were you thinking?!" he demanded. "Family Arpignon's the richest house in town, you can't steal from them!"
Rune swatted his hands away and signed quickly. "He stole from you."
"He ripped me off! There's a difference!"
"Like what?"
"Like you can't be put on trial for selling stuff at dumb prices!" Groose groaned in frustration, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Okay, look. I get that you wanted to...help me or whatever, but now you can't ever show your face in the Bazaar again. Rupin will have you ostracized."
"Oh. That doesn't matter," Rune signed. "You can still shop, right?"
"Yeah, but-"
Rune held up a finger, then reached into his wallet and offered Groose a fistful of gems.
Three red, one gold.
Groose frowned. "...Are these the rupees I gave you to buy food. What gives?"
"Didn't need them." Rune shook the travel bag on his back. "Miss Piper was willing to trade ingredients for recipes and help through lunch hour. So you can go back and get the rest of the supplies now." He paused. "Can you get some extra things while you're there?"
Groose squinted. He was losing charge of this expedition, and he didn't like it. "First off," he said, jabbing Rune in the chest, "don't tell me what to do. Got it? I'm the one in charge here; Zelda's waiting for me to rescue her."
"Nobody's in charge. We're working together," Rune signed back with a frown.
"Oh yeah? I'm the one with the bird. While we're up here, what I say goes, or you're staying put."
Rune paused, tapping his chin as he thought it over. "...Alright," he finally conceded. "IF, when we go down to Hyrule, I'm in charge."
Groose gaped. "What?!"
"I know the surface world better than you do. I know how to kill monsters, raid camps, forage, and hunt. If we're choosing leadership by advantages," he signed, "then it makes sense for you to hand it over when you're in unfamiliar territory."
The redhead clenched his fists, glaring. "You think I don't know how to use a sword?! I can kill monsters just as well as you can! Better than you can, I've had knight training!"
"Like T-a-l-u-s-e-s? And L-y-n-e-l-s? And M-o-b-l-i-n-s?"
"Okay, now you're just making up words."
Rune stood silently for a moment. "How about we make a deal?"
"Uh-huh." Groose crossed his arms. "What kind of deal?"
"We have a duel. If you win, you can be in charge of the mission. But if I win—" Rune gestured to himself. "—then we don't have a leader. Deal?"
Groose paused. He was being offered a chance to pummel this guy? With leadership as a prize? "...Fine. But we're going to Bamboo Isle; I'm not dueling you in open air."
"Bamboo Isle?"
Groose smirked. "You'll see." And with that, he shoved Rune off the edge of the isle, let him flail for a moment, then dove after him with a whistle.
Rune had made him dodge the patrol for his little stunt at the bazaar, and on top of that, had damaged Groose's pride. He'd take whatever petty revenge he could get.
Rune clung to the loftwing's soft, fur-like feathers, watching the world go by him in awe. In all his time traveling Hyrule, he'd never been this high, and his flight had always been accompanied by bomb scorch marks, stasis-launched boulders, or soreness that came with paragliding with his arms over his head.
This, though?
This was breathtaking.
As Groose steered them carefully through the sky, he avoided every cloud they came across, much to Rune's disappointment. He tugged on the student knight's sleeve.
Groose looked down at him in mild annoyance. "I'm flying, it had better be an emergency."
Rune pointed over at a big puffy cloud.
Groose followed his line of sight. "...Yeah, so? It's a cloud. They happen."
"But what's—"
"Tell me when we land," he interrupted. "I'm not crashing us into a guay because I had to read your fingerspeak mid-air."
Rune huffed, sulking, his experience ruined by the lack of attention while the tempting clouds passed him by. They were so fluffy and beautiful...Idly, he wondered what they felt like. Were they edible? Could he stand on them? He imagined them like fluffy bowls, carrying hidden lakes at their tops which spilled rain whenever they got too full.
Finally, after a long flight, Groose took them in for a landing, piloting his bird expertly until Nightwing stepped gracefully onto the ground. The isle they'd landed on was broad and flat, consisting of nothing but grass and a building with tall reeds growing out of its top.
"Alright, get off, you," The redhead said, giving Rune a shove. "I've gotta fix Nightwing's feathers before we go in."
He hopped down, leaving Groose to his work, and immediately faceplanted on the ground.
"Uh...buddy?" Groose raised an eyebrow. "Are you good?"
"I'm still flying."
"...Sure, pal." He shook his head, pulling out a comb and grooming out Nightwing's feathers. He still couldn't believe that this was the guy he was saddled with; a crazy, birdless person, with no memories to speak of and a penchant for insanity.
But the man had information. Besides, it was better to have the insane person on your side than as competition, right?
He shook his head, finishing up Nightwing's brushing, then walked over to Rune and nudged him with his foot. "Alright. Get up. What did you wanna tell me earlier?"
Rune pulled himself up into a sitting position. "Are clouds edible?"
"Pfff- what?" Groose snorted. "What do you mean, 'are they edible?' They're CLOUDS."
"They look fluffy, like the inside of a palm fruit," Rune signed. "If they are edible, we should get some. There's a lot out there just sitting there."
Groose couldn't help it. He burst out laughing, holding his stomach.
"What?" Rune stood up and signed with a frown. "I'm being serious."
"You can't- you can't EAT clouds!" Groose said, wiping tears from his eyes. "They're clouds!"
"So? I've never been to one. Are they like islands? Can you walk on them?" All that question earned him was a fresh peal of laughter. He crossed his arms in annoyance, waiting the redhead out.
Finally, Groose managed to regain some semblance of composure, a grin still on his face. "Do they seriously not have clouds where you're from?" He shook his head. "Hylee, pal, they're just water."
Rune raised an eyebrow. "Like, floating lakes?"
"Like, standing next to a waterfall. Water-filled air."
Rune looked out at the sky at all the fluffy, cottony clouds. "...I don't believe you."
Groose snorted. "Tell you what? When we leave here, I'll toss you into one. Then you can see for yourself."
Rune's ears perked. "Deal." Eagerly, he ran into the building to get the sparring session over with.
As he left, his companion watched him go with a slight frown. The guy didn't seem anxious about fighting; was that misplaced confidence, or skill?
Whatever it was, he wasn't about to let Rune take his leadership claim away. He marched in after the blonde, head held high, and grabbed a practice katana off of the entrance wall.
The inside of the bamboo training grounds was large, with a handful of people already practicing their slicing skills. Groose had been here a few times before; it was the only place that had swords you could actually leave with, provided you paid the fee and avoided goodie-two-shoes like Pipit, and was one of the few places he could take out some pent up agression without judgement.
He spotted Rune testing the balance of his sword, and eyed it with suspicion. It looked...different. Weird, like it had been made somewhere else. It was short, though, so it shouldn't be a match for something like a cutter's katana, right?
Groose strode over. "Alright, Rune. Ready to lose?"
Rune looked up. "No," he signed. "I don't plan to."
That cheeky remlit... Groose's eyes narrowed, and he drew his katana. "No head swings, no drawing blood. Got it? Anything else is fair game, and first to knock the other's sword away wins."
Rune dropped his bag and kicked it back against the wall, taking a fighting stance. He held out his sword with a decisive nod.
Groose felt the eyes of the other swordsmen on his back. There was no way he was losing to this weirdo with an audience.
No holding back.
He reached out and tapped his blade against his opponent's, initiating the fight.
Rune didn't waste any time, racing forward and immediately leaping into a jump attack. Groose countered the move in a flash, stepping into the blow and tossing Rune back, before rushing him with another strike.
The attack was blocked expertly, Rune stepping aside then ducking down to sweep at his opponent's legs. Groose leapt over the attempted swing with a confident smirk. Gotcha. He landed and spun, delivering a sharp kick to Rune's ribs, taking advantage of the hero's vulnerability. Rather than trying to dodge it, though, Rune took it, using the momentum to roll to the side, then leapt up with an upward swing. Groose parried the strike quickly, knocking the blonde back again with a powerful blow. He rolled his shoulders, grip on his sword tightening, then lunged.
The two men's blades clashed in a fast-paced, elaborate dance, one that didn't go unnoticed by the other swordsmen here. It didn't take long for them to draw a small crowd of awed onlookers. And it was fascinating; blow after blow, sweep after dodge, the two of them both skilled at their craft and fighting to get the upper hand. It lasted for minutes; every time it looked like Groose was about to knock the blade away, Rune pulled out some new technique; a roll-dodge, a spin attack, a back slice. His small stature served him well against his much larger opponent; every strike was either blocked or dodged entirely, and it was getting harder and harder for Groose to keep track of his position. This was the longest he'd ever been engaged in combat; didn't this guy ever get tired?!
Rune ducked under yet another strike, racing forward. A sharp jab from the hilt of the teal shortsword connected with Groose's ribs, and he gasped in pain, the wind knocked out of him.
Time slowed down in that moment. Rune hit the underside of Groose's sword hand with his free fist, while his blade collided swiftly with the katana. It flew out of Groose's hand, embedding itself in the back wall.
The silver blade of the Goddess Sword froze under Groose's chin, centimeters away from his throat, and he looked down, eyes wide in shock as he met the most intense glare he'd ever seen. His eyes darted between the hero and the blade. Slowly, he raised his hands in defeat. "...Alright. Fine. You win."
Immediately, Rune's demeanor shifted back into being totally reserved, putting back on neutral expression he always wore. He sheathed his sword. "So no leaders?"
Groose grit his teeth and glanced aside, fighting to catch his breath without notice. "...No leaders."
"Great. We need a good oil tarp."

Allow This Jewelry Knowledge To Give You An Edge
Wearing jewelry and practicing the art of adornment is an age-old practice that has roots in cultural, social, and fashion movements and history. Whether you are looking for insight on how to wear jewelry to enhance your personal style, how to shop for the best jewels, or just for interesting facts, you will undoubtedly, find some intriguing and informative gems in these hand-picked tips.
Try keeping up with jewelry trends. Like with fashion, jewelry also follows seasonal trends and you can find a style and color combination that is right for you. You can even find specialty items that go with clothing pieces in your own personal wardrobe. The possibilities and combinations are endless.
With gold prices at an all-time high, it's a great time to invest in gold jewelry. You may have been tempted to sell your old gold or even buy some new gold as an investment. Be smart when dealing with private jewelry sales. Investing money into a cheap gold testing kit is a wise decision to save yourself from getting duped into unintentionally buying gold plated jewelry that is essentially worthless.
If you have a round face, stay away from long dangling earrings. Such earrings generally make your face look rounder and draws attention away from great features you may have. Instead, opt to purchase small dangling earrings or stud earrings for a look that enhances your round face and features.
When storing your fine jewelry in a chest or case, wrap each piece in a small piece of velvet cloth. That way harder gemstones will not scratch softer gemstones and metals. It also helps pieces not get tangled with themselves and the velvet helps to keep the pieces safe from excess moisture.
When getting body jewelry, find a licensed piercer who uses a needle. Even when piercing ears, it's best to avoid piercing guns. Piercing guns are not as sterile, can lead to infection, and may damage skin and tissue. Avoid these risks, and look for a licensed piercing shop no matter what you're getting pierced.
To dress up a knit top or a T-shirt, pair it with a long necklace that has a simple style. Long necklaces will add visual interest to your top, but keeping them basic will prevent them from overpowering your look. Try wearing thin layered necklaces or a necklace with a Y-shape.
When buying jewelry, ask a friend what looks good on you. Though you may have a preference for gold, it may turn out to be that silver actually looks best for you and your skin tone. Of course, always consider your tastes, but don't forego advice from others about what makes you look best.
If there are knots in your necklaces, you can easily untangle them. Before giving up on a tangled knotted mass of precious metal, source some plastic wrap. Place your jewelry on the plastic wrap and add a little baby oil. Do the untangling yourself with a pair of needles. When finished, wash it with a little dishwashing liquid and pat dry.
If you choose to make and sell jewelry at craft bazaars or flea markets, take time to ensure that each piece has a clearly marked price tag that cannot be tampered with, yet can be removed without damaging the merchandise. Although nobody likes to think that theft can happen to them, it is best to protect your investment of time and money.
Always take off all types of jewelry before you go to sleep. This will help you to avoid two major problems at the same time. The first is that it is easy to lose pieces in your sleep. The second problem is that sleeping on jewelry can add stress to it and greatly shorten the lifespan.
When storing your jewelry, follow any specific advice which is provided by the manufacturer. Different gem stones have different sets of rules for safe storage. Try to keep your pieces of jewelry from touching each other while being stored, since this can lead to scratching each other. If a piece of jewelry has its own box or pouch, use it for better protection of your valuable assets.
When it comes to taking care of your jewelry, be sure that you always remove it before using any sort of powerful chemicals. This is important because when using cleaning chemicals, it is possible that they could come into contact with your jewelry and either ruin it, or temporarily disfigure it.
When it comes to taking care of your jewelry be sure that you remove it before going in the bathtub or shower. This is important because not only do you run the risk of losing it down the drain, but the cleaning materials used safely on your body may cause temporary or permanent damage to your jewelry.
If you are planning to purchase a piece of jewelry for your wife or girlfriend but do not want to ruin the surprise, do some detective work. Stealthily, sneak a peek in her jewelry box or simply pay attention to the pieces that she wears the most. Take note of details like whether she favors gold or silver, thick or delicate chains, or diamonds versus colored stones or pearls. This information will help both you and the salesperson narrow down the selection.
Avoid storing multiple bracelets and/or multiple necklaces together, especially if they're thin. They can easily tangle and outright tear while you're trying to get them untangled. If you're storing them in the same box, pick up some small bags to keep them in separately. A little time to separate could save you some big money.
Don't use toothpaste to clean your jewelry. There are countless websites out there claiming that toothpaste is a great way to clean jewelry. Fine jewelers will tell you otherwise. The abrasives in toothpaste can damage the surface of metal and will permanently ruin soft stones such as turquoise, amber and lapis.
If find yourself considering jewelry to buy, wear, make, or sell, the tips that you have just read are sure to shine a little light on the beauty of metals, stones, and construction of gorgeous rings, earrings, necklaces, and bracelets. Men and women alike, have enjoyed the attractive and compelling allure of jewelry for centuries and will continue to do so indefinitely.

earth & wind
the world of sornieth as defined by schwartz industries
EARTH
terraclae - the capital of the earth district. it was once an old mineral town that slowly morphed into an oligarchal society. the homes there are beautiful structures carved deep into the surrounding earth, and most of the families there have history stretching back hundreds of years. visitors are always welcome, although they look down on any travelers who have suggestions on how to "improve" the region.
the colonnades of antiquity - a grand bazaar stretching for miles. travelers come from all districts to push their wears, selling anything from spices to jewels to smuggled alien artifacts. if you can't find it here, you won't be able to find it anywhere. although gem mining is still a prominent part of the earth district's economy, rent from the colonnades is the bulk of their gdp.
greatwyrm's breach - a deep gorge that draws in any history student. preservation is the number one goal, as there are invaluable cave paintings and murals untouched by modern hands. while the majority of it is open as a tourist attraction, there are several areas off-limits and require governmental permission to access.
parched canyonwalks - once a thriving area for its rich lands, it slowly deteriorated when leylines started to erupt and break apart the farmland. while citizens could move from one area to the other with the help of bridges, it made farming almost impossible, and many moved away from the area.
highland sanctum - one of the prestigious universities of sornieth. the highland sanctum is the go-to university for students interested in anthropology, geomorphology, and history. because the earth district is so rich in culture, there's always an abundance of internships within the area.
WIND
the gale sanctum - one of the prestigious universities of sornieth. the gale sanctum is a jack of all trades. anything from architecture to history to language to culinary. it's a great university to go to when you don't know what to major in.
the mill meadows - while farming would seem to be the main source of income for the wind district, the true lead of the economy is outsourced power. while lightning works to lay the foundations, a single district alone can't supply power to the planet. thus, wind provides a significant portion of power within the western hemisphere.
singer's brook - an incredibly tranquil place that has seen an increase in population in recent years. many who wish to live in self-sustained isolation have moved to singer's brook, as it provides fertile land and water-based mills. it's a very serene place, which has made it appealing to those seeking retirement.
the aergate - the capital of the wind district, the aergate began as a city built around a temple to worship the windsinger. claimed to be blessed by the god himself, many moved to the area to receive his blessing before setting out on personal journeys. though it's unknown exactly when the great stone structure stopped moving, it has recently been re-activated in an attempt to push clean energy in the region. the influx of new jobs has made the area all the more popular.
the cloudsong - an engineering masterpiece, the cloudsong is a man-made floating city. combining magic and ingenuity, the giant floating city remains a marvel to all who visit. it's a popular vacation spot, and is the only floating city with its own amusement park.
the twisting crescendo - an eternally raging storm that hasn't stopped. for as far back as sornieth's history goes, there's been mention of the frigid beast that plagues the border of the wind district. claimed to be a curse from letting the aergate stop, the twisting crescendo lives up to its reputation. many storm chasers go in pursuit of learning something new about the ancient disaster. most don't return.

Guild Memo on Soul Trapping by Vanus Galerion, Archmagister Emeritus
Vanus Galerion’s proposal on the use of soul-trapping magics
Mages Guild Memorandum: Confidential, Magisters Only
From Vanus Galerion, Archmagister Emeritus
Emeritus means former! HE IS ACTUALLY RETIRED IN ESO!!! So that’s why you never see him around until you get to coldharbour (ignoring his yelling at you in the starter cities anyway). This explains a lot about the mg quests in eso. I didn’t realize he wasn’t in charge anymore. Guess the guild as a whole doesn’t have any interest in worm hunting, even to stop the end of the freaking world.
If you pay attention to the popular fads and fashions of spellcasting in your guildhalls, you have doubtless noticed the recent surge of interest in the discipline of “soul trapping.” Unlike most of the passing fancies that come and go among the magical fraternity, I consider this particular vogue alarming and dangerous.
Recent huh? How recent? Are all these types of notes “recent” as of the player characters entrance into the world? Because Vanus’s guild has been around for some [300] years now.
He says ‘vouge’ lol. Idk why I find that funny but I do. He writes like he should have a super shrill voice, even if his actual voice is great.
There are reasons why soul trapping has never been part of the core curriculum of the Mages Guild, taught to only the most experienced and dependable wizards, and then only for certain specific uses. First of all, it is technically a subset of necromancy, and on that basis alone it should be abhorred. (Except, as mentioned, for certain special cases, and then only under controlled conditions.) Second, it is a magical technology that practically invites abuse, especially when employed to trap the souls of sentient mortals. It is the sort of arcane practice that the public fears most, and is likely to result in local bans on the organized teaching of magic, and if that happens all our work in establishing the Guild will have been in vain.
He hates necromancy. Soul trapping is a subset of necromancy and so should be hated on principle. Way to be objective, Vanus.
Soul trapping invites abuse and he’s afraid that public fear of it will “induce local bans on the organized teaching of magic”. He’s afraid he won’t be able to keep his magic schools open because the public will cry anti-gun BS on him. Not an unreasonable fear I guess.
Only taught to 'trusted individuals for special cases’. Trusted by who? By him? Hope he has better people sense than ole’ Traven, because we all know how that goes.
He says he’s never allowed soul trapping to be part of the Core Curruculum. This seems important somehow. That shit Traven says Vanus never allowed Necromancy into the guild in his book [the black arts on trial]. Vanus NEVER LET SOUL TRAPPING INTO THE GUILD. Until he does. Because Reasons. Which may or may not have been good ones. In Auridon (at least), there is dialouge that suggests that though it’s heavily frowned on, it’s more or less left up to the local guild halls, or the instructors themselves, to allow necromancy or not. Ergo, Hannibal Traven is a lying elitist prick who’s been running the cyrodiil guild into the ground for who knows how long. I wasn’t even into Mannimarco when I did that quest and I still didn’t like him. That dude was so incompetent I can’t even. Now i know why lol.
The fact that soul trapping is now common knowledge among Tamriel’s magery, to the point where so-called “Mystics” sell soul gems of various sizes in every market and bazaar, is a problem that can be laid squarely at the feet of the iniquitous Mannimarco and his Order of the Black Worm. It is all part of his program to make necromancy seem commonplace and almost harmless. In some parts of Tamriel, notably Cyrodiil, the vile practice of necromancy has even become accepted as a valid, and legally tolerated, magical discipline. What our old mentor Iachesis would have to say about this pernicious development I hate to think.
He says soul trapping is now common knowledge among the magically learned, public markets where normal people shop sell soul gems, and cyrodil has legalized necromancy. And the world has not ended (with no mention of the planemeld etc). Kinda makes his earlier fear-based argument null and void. There’s a reason the 'slippery slope’ is called a logical fallacy.
He blames Mannimarco for popularizing soul trapping as a bid to make necromancy mainstream. Which is kinda weird since soul trapping is arguably morally worse than the more common reanimation-style necromancy or spirit talking type, so you’d think that’d make people more squeamish. But social valuation is fucking weird so whatever.
More interestingly though, it sounds like Mannimarco is operating similar to the mages guild here by teaching the masses the necro-magics. So his 'Order of the Black Worm’ is NOT a super-secret den of iniquity or whatever, at least not all of it. He has a public face and it is benign enough that learned mages of all types are signing up, not just the evil ones. Which makes perfect sense if one of Mannimarco’s goals is in fact to normalize necro-magic. And gives us players a great excuse for being a necro ( and to wear that kick-ass Worm Cult motif) without having to be some kind of ”fallen’ hero!” To normal good-ish types, he’s just an eccenntric religious order like those various benign daedra cults (until he fubars it all to hell with his bid for godhood anyway). Morbid, gothy, and kinda weird, but overall harmless - or harmless enough that he got soul trapping of all things to go mainstream. I wish we saw more of this in-game. Or are there examples I don’t know about?
He’s equating soul trapping with necromancy now despite his saying above that it is only a sub-dicipline of it. And were we even talking about necromancy in the first place? He’s totally gone off on a tangent here. Maybe that’s what Traven does too in his book? Meh, I still think he’s full of shit. Or some poor bastard who worshiped Galerion growing up and mistook his hard-line posturing as gospel? Dammit Vanus.
He hasn’t mentioned the mage guilds ousting from cyrodiil and it seems like something he’d bitch about here, so I’m assuming this note is from before the events of the soulburst? Just how long has he been retired for?
Name dropping Iachesis Vanus? Way to be a hypocrite there. And its not like he needs the street cred at this point. Emeritus remember? Everyone in the freaking Aubris knows who he is.
So what are we to do about it? I have been giving the matter some hard thought, in between rooting out cells of the ever-burgeoning Worm Cult, and I think at this point the only way to gain control over soul-trapping is to co-opt the practice. Therefore I propose the Mages Guild codify and systematize the various soul-trapping magics into a common grimoire of a few reliable spells, and then teach our members that these, and only these, are the legal and authorized methods for trapping souls.
He admits to worm hunting here ala’ “I was summoned by a mortal”, except if this is indeed before the soulburst and Mannimarco is still playing nice-guy diplomat/public servant, then wtf probable cause does he have other than 'I hate necromancy’? Especially in light of his admission of necromancy being a tolerated - and so presumably benign - practice in some regions.
Co opt means to take on or assimilate an idea or practice. The way he’s using it here sounds malicious, in that he wants to “steal” the idea and rewrite the standard to his liking. And his further wording sounds like this too, like a conspiracy of mis-information. Which if it is, Dammit,Vanus! I can’t abide that shit no matter how much I like him. Whyyyy?
Furthermore, I propose that for the purposes of soul trapping we categorize all souls into two classes: the legal, or “White” souls, those smaller essences that are captured from beasts and animals, and illegal, or “Black” souls, which are derived from sentient mortals. And we will teach only those spells that can capture White souls, forbidding our students to use the larger soul gems on sentients.
This could be read as malicious or not I think. He says 'codify soul-trap magics’ into a list of reliable Spells. Spells period. Which makes sense if they are as big an experimental clusterfuck as lore suggests. Standards are a good thing. They are what allow things like USB ports to exist. And electricial outlets. Damn near every modern convienence we have in fact. IEEE, ISO, ANSI, etc.
THEN he says he wants to class souls into two groups 'black and white’ - to presumably reinforce the moral divide between sapient and animal souls. Whatever. A mother-hen safety move for the less mindful I guess.
Then only teach the animal catching ones to the students of the guild, which is also reasonable FOR A SCHOOL. So he’s running a magic kindergarden/basic literacy center and he doesn’t want little joey (or his mom) to accidently soul-trap his sister or whatever. People really are that stupid after all.
Black and white souls is only meant as an illustration here, not a conspiracy. He DID NOT actually lie or try to suppress the knowledge itself, just do the equivalent of putting obnoxious child safety caps and warning labels on all the spells. Which is annoying, but not unforgivable I suppose. This may or may not have been corrupted into a guild-wide ban/misinformation over the centuries, what with people’s habits of over-doing things and all. And possibly likely from his own personal views polluting the guild’s collective mindset. Oh Vanny: with great Power comes great Responsibility - to not let your personal opinions get in the way of your job as a leader. Sigh…
Alternatively, the above could still be true, but with an actual current guild-wide ban on sapient soul capture and non-standard spell use, taking 'students’ to mean any guild member. This would kinda suck and doesn’t sound at all practical, especially in necro-tolerant Elseweyr. It would force any mage who worked with ANY kind of sapient soul, willing or not, to choose between membership or their job.
But come to think of it, WE the player can capture sapient souls right? We get stacks of gems, we have 'soul magic’ as a in-built skill line, and can soul trap all day long right in front of guild members as a member. If you want immersion, the first benign, if ultimately mis-guided, take seems far more reasonable.
It will take several generations, and the suppression of the Worm Cult, for this dichotomy to become the pan-Tamrielic standard for soul trapping. But if the Mages Guild can’t take the long view for the good of Tamriel, who can?
Dammit 'dichotomy’. And we are back to it being a campaign of misinformation. Or not. idk. Just more effective yet unintentionally misleading moral reinforcing maybe? He also never mentions black GEMS in any way, only calling sapients “black” souls. He specifically does mention forbidding the use of larger gems on sapients. So here he is saying , with lots of jumbled and confusing wording, that a big enough gem can hold anything, but he isn’t gonna show you how to do it.
He may or may not know as of this writing about Vasteries and Mannimarco’s experiments with actual black colored gems which are an entirely different thing (now), but if he does know about that, his “black souls” thing may have been inspired by their association with subjugation, seeing as he clearly thinks of sapient soul use, possibly ANY soul use, for any reason, as morally wrong.
Which is stupid, because one of my favorite lore books shows Vanus to be a genius pioneer in soul capture and a master enchanter who is perfectly happy to sell powerful, and probably black, daedric souls to the highest bidder. He isn't anti-soul gem, he LOVES soul gems! ESO really screwed him here. Oblivion too, to a degree, though at least that game had room for interpretation.
If Vanus’s 'black and white’ moral classification was indeed meant only as a ham-fisted attempt at creating an ethical standard for soul use that got corrupted into a hard-line rule and propaganda-sourced “fact of soul magic” circa Oblivion, then that gives us new necros a good excuse for not hating the mages guild if we don’t want to. He’s just limiting his curriculum as is his right as a private institution (even if it’s a stupid-ass move for legitimate scholarship and their reputation as a place of higher learning). I guess If you want to learn that esoteric shit, go to Mannimarco’s trade school.
Vanus Galerion wants to make it absolutely, positively, unambiguously, 1000% clear that he himself does NOT approve of necromancy or Mannimarco’s cult in any way, shape, or form! Okay we get it Vanny.
His ploy seems to have worked for the most part, given that you can’t soul trap npcs in game until oblivion. (you kinda can in Morrowind, but I am undecided on whether I want to treat that as a lore element or an oversight.) presumably because you don’t know how unless you go join Mannimarco’s cult (as a modder)?
Reconciling Mannimarco’s politically smart and sensible public outreach alluded to here with his boneheaded actions during the main quest is making my head hurt. He’s so smart and yet he’s… Not? Seriously, there is NO WAY he doesn’t know about the history of Sancre Tor, NO WAY! I’m leaning toward delusional psychosis via soulburst-induced traumatic brain injury personally…

Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai
In May this year, we visited Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai for a little over a week. I went with a group of secondary school friends. We meet once or twice in a year, but it's one of those cliques that you know you will always keep in touch even if you don't get to meet them frequently. We had been discussing going on a trip and eventually decided on Chiang Mai since it offered a good mix of relaxation and activities. The nearby Chiang Rai also had a few sites worth visiting. Well we didn't know that it would hit 40 degrees in May, but otherwise it was still a good decision because I really loved the pace of life there. I remember our first night at a Chiang Mai night market, where we watched the locals dancing together at a square, while others ate and moved along with the music. I felt wonderful amongst them. It felt like everyday was a celebration, and you don't need a huge reason to put on your makeup and party dresses. You head out and have a good time whenever you feel like it. There's life everywhere - even in the 40-degree weather. I've shared some places I've visited on Instagram and in this vlog, but finally - here's a massive post that consolidates my favourite spots in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. Chiang Mai Other than temples and night bazaars, Chiang Mai also has some of the cosiest cafés and shops. If you're a lover of home decor and tableware, there will be lots of shopping for you to do. Baan Kang Wat This is easily one of my favourite places in Chiang Mai. Baan Kang Wat is a little art village that houses a book café, restaurant and shops selling handmade crafts like baskets, jewellery, leather goods etc. It might seem a little far off on the map, but Uber there is really affordable so it won't hurt your wallet to travel there. Gateway Coffee Roasters You'll see bags of fresh coffee beans piled up once you walk into this café. They are known for their quality beans and I bought a bag home to enjoy. I loved how they decorated the space with beautiful wooden furniture. Khagee Another cosy café, Khagee is a popular spot for their homemade bakes. We enjoyed a scone, a canelé and a custard puff during our visit. I've also written up a post specially for Khagee here. Enough For Life Enough For Life is a café, a shop and a guest house all at once. We easily spent half a day there because we spent so much time deciding what to bring home and what to let go. If I could, I might really bring the whole shop home haha. They have a curated collection of secondhand homeware and tableware, and I brought home a few vases and bowls. Enough For Life also deserves a post on its own, so more pictures will follow! One Nimman I love the architecture of this place and its curation of shops. The glass roof at the main walkway invites light to fall in; the brick walls, wooden pillars and clock tower also make you feel like you've stepped into the streets of Italy while shopping there. There are also a few unique boutique shops right beside One Nimman. Take your time when visiting One Nimman and its neighbourhood, it's worth spending a slow afternoon there. Rivers and Roads A little shop tucked along an alley, Rivers and Roads carries a mix of secondhand objects and items made by local craftsmen. It's one of those homey shops where you'll end up striking a conversation with the shopkeeper and find it comfortable to touch and browse the items there. I found a vintage rectangular-shaped basket there which I still love it dearly. Rustic and Blue This is a café made for your Instagram stories haha. But other than that, I've to say that the food's pretty good and affordable. I'd prefer the mains to their bakes. POR POR was our choice of accommodation, thanks to @mossingarden's recommendation. It's a modern and minimal boutique hotel and I loved the touches of greenery there. The pool was my favourite of all. I can't swim, but it was still really nice to take a dip in the morning and chill by the deck. The only thing was that the mosquitoes bothered us so much during our stay. It might be because of the climate, I wasn't sure. But do request to stay at the upper floors if you can to avoid the bugs.
Chiang Rai We decided to stop by Chiang Rai since it was a few hours' drive away from Chiang Mai. It's recommended that you book a tour when in Chiang Rai, since most of the sites are only accessible by car. We booked a tour through the hostel and were lucky enough to meet a grandpa who brought us around to some of the most beautiful and hidden spots. He didn't do much talking since he's not fluent in English, but from his excitement, you could tell how proud he was to show us some of the sites. And I'm eternally grateful for his patience when he waited for us at the pottery haha. I'm pretty sure he didn't expect that we would spend hours there looking at ceramics! That said, there were SO many temples and we got really tired from visiting them. Most tours are flexible, so I'd recommend the White Temple and Black House as the must-visits, and you can skip the rest if you'd like to enjoy other activities. Wat Rong Khun, The White Temple I still don't know how the locals managed to build such a intricate temple. It's owned and built by Chalermchai Kositpipat, who spent his whole life working on the temple. The temple is very well taken care of, and the shade of white brings an element of surreality when you visit it in real life. Baandam Museum, The Black House I personally love the Black House though it's architecturally very different from the White Temple. The Black House reminded me of influences of zen and Japanese wabi-sabi with its dark wooden building, unpolished sculptures and rock formations. It's interesting to know that some found it creepy or even gothic (perhaps because of the displays of animal skins and remains). I was just mesmerised by the textures and muted colours of the space. Doi Din Dang Pottery I don't think this pottery was in the initial itinerary but our guide brought us there and I was so grateful for that. Got to see some of the potters working on their craft and I brought home a few of their beautiful pieces which I still don't bear to use. Their teapots and cups are definitely worth collecting if you are a fan of tea or sake. Mae Fa Luang Mae Fa Luang is a humble garden complex. It's hard to be blown away by gardens anymore after you've visited Singapore, but Mae Fa Luang had this homely feeling to it. It's almost like visiting your aunt's garden, a garden where she had devoted most of her life pruning and taking care of the plants, and invitingly opens its doors for all neighbours to viist. Choui Fong Tea Plantation Perhaps because of the melting weather, we had the whole plantation to ourselves when we visited. I appreciated that they added a deck around a huge old tree that was rooted in between the plantation, instead of hacking it down. That tree and deck added a beautiful touch to the greenery. I recall the five of us, sitting on the edge of the deck, looking towards the plantation - almost like a scene in those Taiwanese art house films haha. May we never forget the adventures of our youth. This is a very long post and I know I'm tired after having to look up the thesaurus for words other than 'beautiful' haha. I hope you'll find it useful though! Chiang Mai is truly a gem of Thailand and I enjoyed its balance of culture and craft. Take your time when you're there - there will definitely be a piece of Chiang Mai that you'll end up bringing home.
