current thought for a video essay: The future is atheist (but we'll still celebrate christmas?)
#Idk#I'm just reading enders game and thinking about how even though religions kinda been abandoned by the sound of it#enders dad gave all of them saints names#his mom gave him a priesthood blessing#How the french daring to not teach english until age 4 is oh the prideful french#and alai saying salaam to ender was almost... Intimate is the wrong word#but sharing that piece of culture was like a huge thing#looked up the line in the book ender says he knew it was sacred#vs for example who watches the watchers in tng where they (iirc) imply that the proto vulcans growing out of ~superstitious religion~#was a huge step forward in the advancement of their culture which sure vulcan cousin society ultra logical bla bla bla#but idk I feel like religion and logic aren't entirely at odds#and tbf I am saying this as a kinda religious person#but the abandonment of all religion in sci fi- especially when they maintain idk christmas as a cultural hallmark - kinda rubs me the wrong#Cause does that not seem really fucking dystopic to literally anyone else?
