Studio TV Solutions presents Half Life VR but the AI are Self-Aware (2020) [not a real movie]. A movie with a totally improv’d script starring a moltey crew who are sure to give you a rip-roarin’ good time!
anyway hi new au just dropped. i’m calling it HLVRAIM. it’s HLVRAI but it’s a blockbuster movie and the science team are played by actors. i have many thought on backstories n stuff that i will stick under a “read more” here otherwise this post will be hella long on people’s dashes. 👇👍 pls care about this i thought so hard and much
Half Life VR but the AI are Self-Aware was put out by Studio TV Solutions in 2020 and destroyed the box office with how fun it was and how well the cast played off one another. The cast was given a general outline for the script with the goal for it to be mostly improv.
Gordon Freeman: Mannie Flores (Dominican American, age 28, he/him) - Popular Youtuber/Twitch streamer (“Radi0Mann”). Got offered the role in HLVRAI thanks to the creative things he’s done in his Youtube/Twitch career. This is his first “official” acting gig. He was pretty starstruck at first, but then as he got to know everyone, he realized they’re all a bunch of dorks (affectionate). - Started off as a gaming channel, but then started branching off into various creative endeavors as he got more popular. He still plays games too though. - One of the things Mannie did in his internet career that hit the mainstream was when he wrote, directed, starred in, and filmed his own movie in just 2 weeks because he failed a bet with his audience. Except the movie was actually really good and funny and heartfelt (i want to say it was about “a man who got left behind on earth after everyone else was raptured because god literally forgot about him”, but i think the concept might’ve been done already). - Met Benji through HLVRAI. They hit it off and now they’re dating. They tried to keep it secret for a while but Mannie had a slip-up during a stream that sort of blew it out of the water.
Benrey: Benji Song (Japanese/Chinese, age 30, he/they) - Started off as a film sound designer in the industry, then through a series of silly willy little events—possibly even shenanigans—got roped into a role in a passion indie film that became wildly acclaimed and flung him into the spotlight. Been an actor ever since, but isn’t the most proactive in taking jobs much to their agent’s annoyance. People never know where he’ll pop up next. Sometimes Benji will sneak in sound designer work behind their agent’s back. - Honestly likes background work more because everyone’s got these expectations of them as an actor that they feel pressured to meet. But he’s also afraid of disappointing people. He’s working on it. - Met their partner Mannie through HLVRAI. Totally was a fan of his streams/videos beforehand though. When they mention that, Mannie gets flustered. - Does music as a hobby. Electronic stuff mostly—enjoys mashing together all sorts of sounds and trying to make them work. After HLVRAI, Mannie’s streams gets cool new music that’s made by somebody going by “johnwicklover1994.” wink
Harold Coomer: Hau’oli “Hau” Kaleo-Kirchhoff (Hawaiian/Samoan, age 66, he/him) - Old musician who’s supposed to be retired but once in a while will release a song or even do a concert (but nothing crazy). - Hau’oli is pronounced [hh-ow-oh-lee], but he also goes by “Hau” for the haoles’ sake. :) Kaleo is [kah-leh-oh]. also Hau’oli sounds a little bit like the name Holly so that’s a fun coincidence i didn’t realize until later. - Most of his music is chill island tunes but he has been known to dabble in rock and jazz. - Married to Mose (been together for 30 years and counting).
Bubby: Mose Kaleo-Kirchhoff (German, age 69 [nice], xe/him) - Veteran actor—been in the acting industry for a long time. One of his more well-known roles was in a popular sci-fi series. - Married to Hau’oli (they got married the moment it was legal). - i went with a name that started with “M” cuz when Gordon first asks Bubby for his name, xe’s like, “mmm Bubby.” and i headcanon it’s because Mose was about to say xir own name and had to swerve last minute and the thing his brain resorted to was Bubby lol.
Tommy Coolatta: Luis Tanglao (Filipino, age 37, he/they) - Child star who dropped out of the industry when he hit his teens and then came back years later as a comedian. He has material about how fucked up being a child star was. Will only take acting roles if it interests them. - They don’t care about how the public/media sees him. He’ll speak his mind and call out BS when he sees it. Interviewing them can be a war zone. - Hosts a popular podcast with some buds they discuss things like video games, their lives, news, etc. Just shooting the shit. - Sunkist is their actual dog and she modeled for the png photo that was used. Her name is actually Biko. She is a very good girl. <3
Darnold Pepper: Sage Haven (African American, age 40, he/her/they) - Famous cooking show host who gets offered roles in movies. Got popular by how unconventional her meals and cooking methods are and how funny he is. - Has had multiple food/cooking/baking shows over the years. Every competition-based one they’ve had focused more on good vibes, fun, and encouraging one another rather than drama. One show involved people competing to see who could make the best full course meal with the catch being they could only cook everything in a microwave. Many microwaves perished. - Changed their name to Sage Haven during their transition. They chose it because it reflects his passion and also is a play on the phrase “safe haven”, which is what she wants to be to others. - He has an adoptive daughter named Kit. She helped them think up bits and jokes. She also had to help explain what Half-Life was.
haven’t gotten to gman and forzen’s actors yet unfortunately. thinking gman’s actor could be a talk show host? because that would be funny. anyway thanks for humoring me on my shenanigans. bye

THIS ISN'T A ROAST. It's some thoughts and backgrounds on a thing that's been eating my brainworms for a bit.
haha ok so, the last few years I've been hearing a lot about how AI can be useful and a tool, which i refuse to believe it is (and if so, the damage it causes to artists FAR OUTWEIGHT any benefit).
So, there's this youtuber that covers, like, tech and stuff. When generative AI for images and text came up , they were rightfully poking at the ethical dilemma, and copyright infringement, but STILL made a soft argument about how useful it can be on pitch ideas, concepts, and other things that quick and cheap art could be used (also fuck whoever did this jobs before i guess lol)
BUT THEN an app finally did the same for music, generating indistinguishable quality music. The said youtuber makes music, usually vibe check music to hear on video's background and such.
but see
this time they were frustrated, and made a video about the ethical concern, how unfair it is, how it destroys the effort and passion of creating and all, and did NOT make an argument about how it could be useful, because now they knew that despite the benefit, if it goes off, their dreams is over.
A lot of people are quick to jump into "this can be useful" for generative tools, and very rarely i see artists, especially digital artists, agreeing with this. And most that do either have no stakes on their careers, aka they're already well off, or have no careers to begin with.
Serious artists KNOW how bad it is, no matter what. The youtuber had no stakes in visual art. They doesn't make them, they don't really profit or benefit from making them.
When it came to a thing they DO understand and make, now they've got to understand why it's bad. Why the benefits are not good enough to justify the disaster it makes on artist's life, on the humankind development as a whole.
idk what the point is here, i just really got pissed that at the point, they've been really kinda "this is bad but this exist, who knows, could be good if it's not unethical etc", to go fully into "this is bad. like, real bad for everyone here and music industry".
Wish that understanding came from their kindness, not AI coming with a baseball bat to their knees. Makes me real sad that it came for them too.

Ninjavember 2023!
Here's completed version with a bunch of explaining below each picture! Just scroll down if you don't want to see me blabbering. (I tried to go short as much as possible)
(I have a lot of AUs and headcanons that only exist in my head and my sketchbooks. Forgive me for wanting to spill them out.)
Tumblr media
Day 2: Randy was listening to music with earphones so he didn't know Theresa was sitting next to him. Imagine how embarrassed he would get when he knows.
Tumblr media
Day 8: Tech-Ninja AU. It's about machinist Randy being set up by Mcfist for murdering the town hero Ninja with his invention, the Tech-Ninja armor. Then the spirit of the destroyed Nomicon travelled to his armor and become an AI, choosing him to be the next Ninja. So Randy accepted it and was determined to make up for what he caused, when nobody except Howard, the boss of Weinerman industries, trusted him.
Day 10: Apocalypse AU. It's about Randy lost the battle at the end of season 2 and became the prisoner of the Sorcerer. The Nomicon was handed to Howard before that, and they later recruited survivors to form a resistance against the Sorcerer. Then Randy was stanked, but instead of turning into a monster, he was brainwashed and given the power of creating his own red and black stank. And- You know what will happen. (Inspired by the Darkness of Randy Cunningham)
Tumblr media
Day 13: Elemental trial AU. You can say it's my take on what will happen in season 3. The Carp god was under the cover of a random carpfish as Norisville mascot. After a series of events it was awaken and gave Randy the power of Ice Rage.
Day 14: I think there's more than just the blood of First Ninja's brothers, since nobody knows how to destank people at the beginning...
Tumblr media
Day 17: The Warrior might have been living or sleeping there, waiting for some ninjas to wake him up or consult him about his forbidden arts. (Ha, It's kinda like Eclipsa in Star vs. the forces of Evil)
Day 18: Or it can be called the New Generation AU. In the future, Randy took the place of Messager as well as the Ninja Guardian, while Brent became the new Sword Smith and Sorceress became their main villain. I am not really good at designing OCs so there's no next ninja yet.
However, I read a fanfic of another fandom in the form of CYOA, and it gave me new idea: just let the reader be the next ninja, it will be fun, too. (Also, this AU was inspired by an RC9GN fanfic titled from the past to the future, where future Randy became Ninja Guardian. But I couldn't find it on fanfiction.net any more. Has anyone read it? I didn't dream about it, right?)
Day 19: During that time I got even crazier after I read Enter the Nomicon. It's hard to believe I had a crazy period of shipping Randicon, even for myself. Especially weird for me since I now have a completely different view about Nomicon (peek at my Yokai Ninja AU comics). Time really can change a person, wow.
Tumblr media
Day 21: Yes, a whole page just for this headcanon. I used the screenshots in the show because it's too hard to draw. The barrier thing is kinda like the one that held Bill's power in the range of Gravity Falls.
Tumblr media
Day 23: Danny: the Walking Air-Conditioner. Inspired by a chapter of Secret Quartet. Danny phased his hand through the scarf. Just imagine your friend put a cold hand inside your scarf in winter. *shiver*
Day 25: Besides Ninja vine ball, there are also spike ball, gas ball, sonic ball, rainbow illusion ball, tear ball and so on. I just pick the most common one from my ninja balls headcanons to put in here.
Tumblr media
Day 27: You may see I prefer using numbers to refer episodes, because that's how I track and rewatch them. To be more specific, I list some keywords here: NomiRandy, First Ninja, Debbie, Tengu. As fellow RC9GN Fans I'm sure you get it.
Day 30: It's a half-baked AU thing. The flowers I tried to draw are rosemary?
Wow! I actually finished all the prompts! Thank you for holding the big event! @evilspiritweek
(I don't mind sharing more details about my AUs or headcanons. *wink*)

I’m not a fangirl of Louise who praises every step and kisses the ground she walks on. But I’m passionate about art. Various fields. Criticize her all you want, nothing can stop you. But taking away her credibility as an artist, calling her lazy or fake is completely ridiculous for someone who understands art. Her being a partner of a successful musician is not helping here. People call her talentless but I’m sure she won’t let soulless creatures dictate her worth. Pointless. The problem is that not all talents are visible at first glance. And there’s no definition for an artist. Fuck you Cambridge Dictionary! Being an artist is inconsistent. Doesn’t require releasing music every few months. Because it doesn’t have a DEADLINE. In fact, you can be an artist and never release anything. Business is not art. Industry is killing the real meaning of it. Some people enjoy composing and the creative process more than publishing. It can be more about the journey rather than final product. And the satisfaction and fulfillment comes from creating, not selling it. They do it for themselves. And they’re still artists. Artistry is in your heart. So what that she hasn’t released anything in a long time? Again. I’m not her little minion coming here to defend her. I gain nothing from that, she doesn’t know I exist. But for the love of God, think outside of the box. For a second. It’s not guitar skills, genres, vocal techniques that make you a „real artist”. Who cares if she’s a beginner or expert? As long as there’s a story, emotion or anything she wants to express IT’S VALID and artistic enough. And she doesn’t need to share it now, in 5 years or ever to prove it. Her voice is not perfect? So fucking what. Do you know how many bad singers still made it? And they play shows and found their audience. Let’s study music genres and then fucking shit on them. Fuck rules. Experiment. Have fun. Live. Creativity is FREEDOM. For me the magic in Arctic Monkeys is the mystery. But journalists and fans want short answers, names and dates. Is it about Arielle, is it Alexa?daaaamn. Louise gets a deadline to prove herself as an artist. Alex gets constant demands for explanation. Everything is being ruined by nosinesss. No wonder why he stutters all the time having to avoid questions. Man protects his art. So yeahhhh. It is what it is. But destroying art and freedom of expression with such generalization should be fucking illegal. There are so many problems in the creative community and to see something like this coming from fans is just heartbreaking? I suppose for an artist it’s like asking a friend for a comfort hug and getting slapped in the face instead. But I guess I expect too much from fans. And I’m naive to think you care about art. It’s not Louise, it’s a bigger problem and she’s just one example. So if you’re an artist and you’re reading this: I see you. You’re not lazy for taking time. If you struggle with procrastination or lack of inspiration - I see you. You don’t make money or big numbers on Spotify? I see you. If you lost your spark you’ll get it back. World is cruel but your passion is stronger. If you feel rejected or useless - I believe in you. If you ever thought about conceptualizing an emotion that’s enough for me and your sincerity is all I need to believe in you as an artist. You are important. Your vulnerability is needed. I need it. You help me when you don’t know it. Because world is lacking humanity. So take your time. Amen. And to all ignorants: I dance on your bitter heart. I hope you’ll grow. Find the courage to shine. Fall in love. Appreciate life. I’m not angry. I’m heartbroken but also hopeful. I believe in your improvement. We live in an era of AI takeover. It’s scary. It’s stealing jobs. The pursuit of perfection is killing us. But I believe humanity will win. Emotions are stronger. Always hopeful and forgiving. Even when you try to kill creativity and put it in a box. There is always someone who understands, someone who will take time to read your script even if it’s long. So please. Think. Thank you
Yes, no one can take away the fact that Louise is an artist if she's making art. There's just no evidence she IS making art. We have zero issue with her making art/music/whatever for herself and never releasing it if that's what floats her boat either. We just wonder how she's supporting herself (I mean, we know, but you know what I mean). We also aren't demanding a deadline from her?
Also, people here who think her music or her voice is bad are entitled to that opinion. Just like anyone who thinks her music or voice is good are entitled to THAT opinion. Someone having a negative opinion of your art doesn't make you less of an artist. It comes with the territory of BEING AN ARTIST.
Thank you for your manifesto but we're not sure why you felt the need to share it here as no one is saying someone who makes bad art or unreleased art ISN'T an artist. Both mods make art in some form that will likely never see the light of day (we hope otherwise, obviously) and that someone somewhere would probably hate. We're fine with it. We're not defensive about being called artists or not though.

Do AI tools have positive or negative impacts on music industry?
Hello everyone,
Today, I want to discuss how AI is affecting the music industry. As AI-generated music continues to grow, there’s an ongoing debate: Is AI destroying the music industry, or is it simply changing it in new ways?
AI is undeniably changing the landscape of music by combining technological advancements with creative artistry. These innovative tools can craft unique sounds by blending various genres and styles, resulting in richer and more diverse content. Nowadays, AI-generated music finds its place in multiple sectors, including video game scores, movie soundtracks, and advertising campaigns.
AIVA (Artificial Intelligence Virtual Artist) serves as an excellent example. It is capable of composing entire pieces in genres ranging from classical to pop and jazz, offering a versatile resource for musicians and producers who seek to experiment with new styles and create top-quality content. Another significant project is Google’s Magenta. This open-source platform explores AI's role in music and art, providing artists the opportunity to experiment with a wide array of sounds, melodies, and rhythms generated by machine learning models. This not only aids musicians in creating new works but also advances research in the fusion of AI and creativity.
In my opinion, AI-generated music is beneficial as long as it is not overused and does not attempt to replace actual artists. However, I still believe it puts the music industry at risk. Most people tend to prefer easier ways to make money, and the use of AI in music production could potentially devalue the hard work and creativity that traditional musicians invest in their craft. This shift might encourage a trend where facility and profit take precedence over originality and artistic exploration.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post. I look forward to hearing your opinions.

Last wednesday I ended "Oshi no Ko" (2023) and I have A LOT to say... I LOVED IT.
Tumblr media
I have to say I didn't expect an hour episode (no one did I think), but it's a great way to introduce this anime because the first episode is about Hoshino Ai, her life and what happened before everything. We got to meet her, we got to love her and we got to SUFFER.
I cried a river IN THE FIRST EPISODE... Well deserved the best score in MAL.
Tumblr media
In the following episode we know what happened after Ai's Death. We have this new version of Aqua, which is horrible because he lost all hope, and we have Ruby, blinded by her brightful future.
Next up, we meet the new cast, and everything flows. Oshi no Ko shows how it works in the idols industry. They have to go where they don't want to because it's work, they have to do things they don't want because it's work, they have to be real, be fake, have a smile, don't smoke, don't drink, be happy, etc. It's really exhausting.
Tumblr media
Every character has something relatable:
Arima Kana. She started as a genius kid in acting. She's really good, but she discovered that it doesn't matter how good you are, they drop you when there's a new star. Because of this, she overthinks a lot and she has a very mature point of view, that's why she goes for the best option to survive. She was that much in the entertainment industry for a reason. She also thinks she doesn't deserve nice things (as Taylor'd said), but she's very nice, really amazing in general.
There are a lot of Arima Kanas, it's really sad.
Tumblr media
Kurokane Akane. Akane tried to be real in a show, she didn't shine because her personality isn't that brightful. When she had an accident with another actress people went for the throat. She was bullied almost 'til death, she tried to kill herself, but Aqua avoided that. People was SO MEAN, that she wanted to die. It's a relatable story, in East Asia countries it takes one story (verified or not) to destroy someone's career.
Tumblr media
MEM. She wanted to be someone, but she couldn't due to her family. She had to support them, and when she was able to pursue her dreams, she was too old. Agencies don't usually go for trainees of more than 20. Finally, she got to debut with B Komachi. I'm so happy for her.
Tumblr media
Aqua learned things tended to discover his father, so he knows who killed Ai. He enters the entertainment industry because this would help him in his plans.
Tumblr media
Ruby wanted to be an idol, and she did. She's very optimistic, I guess it's because she didn't witness Ai's death. Ruby is the opposite of Aqua, she has dreams and she's hungry to fulfill them.
Tumblr media
Hoshino Ai. She died too soon, but she's so relatable for me. She thought she could never love someone, she lied her fans everytime because she want them to be happy, she did her best always. She never lied to Aqua and Ruby, but it's so sad that she realised she loves them when she's dying. I think she died in a horrible way, but I think it's lovely to hear Ai saying "it's not a lie, I love you" to Ruby and Aqua.
Tumblr media
And now, this has to end. BUT-
Let's talk about IDOL by YOASOBI... HOW CAN THEY MAKE SUCH A MASTERPIECE AND SLEEP LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED???
The music is brilliant, it is "sparkling", like a pop/idol song; the lyrics are amazing: the chorus is what everyone thinks "she's the most powerful Idol", there's a part like... distorted, with the bad opinions people who don't like her say, and we end with Ai's thoughts, she thought she could never fall in love with someone, and she did with her sons "this isn't a lie, I love you". I was devasteted when I read it.
Tumblr media
My decision is...10 out 10! And well deserved, It went #1 in My Anime List after his first episode for a reason.

A general note on AI in the arts, the creative industries, and similar:-
Generative "AI" used in those spheres accomplishes two main things.
Reducing quality (and getting those who engage in the art vastly more comfortable with poorer quality, less interesting work).
Destroying jobs and opportunities for artists.
I really, really would like us not to get to the point where "real" art made by actual visual artists/voice actors/composers/writers/etc. is a luxury commodity, and the only artists who can actually work are the most privileged (usually those with a private additional income). But we are going very very fast in that direction.
It is also worth reiterating that the artists who will suffer most from this are those who are in marginalised demographics (especially disabled artists (and fuck those using disabled artists as a justification for this; I know so many disabled artists and they are all *furious* at what's happening), artists of colo(u)r, LGBT+ artists). Also that the general population including those on a low income deserve access to real art, dammit.
Please remember that limiting access to the arts (both as audience and practitioners) to the wealthy only is a right-wing priority, and has been for literal centuries. Please remember that the scorn towards arts professionals (especially actors and singers) that is practised on the left as well as the right dates back in western history to the Roman era, and was formed from slut-shaming, classism, xenophobia, and the practice of enslavement. You do not want to be going along with that crap. (Also reminder here to ignore all and any "how much does [celebrity] earn?" sites; they lie. And most arts professionals in all fields are below average in income and wealth. And getting more so.)
If you value social justice, if you value any of the arts, if you value humans getting to do one of the most important of human things: do not use ChatGPT, do not use Midjourney, do not use creation-replacement "AI" generally. And do not engage, especially financially, with any "AI" "art". Don't play the games that replace voice actors with "AI", don't read the books or the fics that use ChatGPT, don't like or reblog the visual "art" if you can help it, don't watch any films or tv shows that use "AI" in any way. Don't read online magazines that use ChatGPT instead of employing copywriters. Just. Keep away from all of it.
Production companies etc. are pushing "AI" on all of us. Don't let them. Their sphere of action is limited if we all make it clear how profoundly not-keen we all are in the arts being wrecked like this. Maybe give a bit of extra love, attention, and/or money to an artist of some kind today. :-) And maybe try to go and see a play or an exhibition or an art gallery or buy a paperback or go to hear some live music played in a pub/bar or play a game where there's a known cast list of voice actors. :-) And make some art yourself!! Even if it's not very good, it's being made by you and it's something you care about and that's an awesome thing. <3
There are a lot of cases where consumption gets treated as activism when it isn't any such things. In this case, it comes a hell of a lot closer to being it.
Disclaimer: sometimes "AI" can be hard to spot. And sometimes people are obnoxious and go around commenting on fanfics and or art accusing innocent people of using it, which is a horrible thing to do. Learn the warning signs if you can, but do please be aware that you might be wrong.

(09/26/23)
when you have been around for a long time you start to notice patterns in the greater world. in the art world there is a pattern of crisis’s of movements and methods that would “destroy or cheapen” art. in the punk/diy scene, there is a pattern of gate keeping and policing what punk is which can limit the growth of the genre and ironically outcast people who don’t conform. the pattern is a frenzy, then every time everything is okay.
the members of ls dunes have experienced this as individuals throughout their careers. starting in diy scenes and transitioning into being band with a label entering mainstream spaces they have had to deal with flack in the moment for things that people in the present love. example, mcr got flack from their peers for i’m not okay because it was dubbed as a pop song. ‘selling out’ is the career. you have to charge industry rates for concerts. you have to sell merch. you will advertise yourself, in interviews and now on social media. and on the other hand, the creative side of things is you will experiment with new technology and methodologies. create new art. i doubt they see ai as much different.
the argument for ai points out that it can increase accessibility and there is a point to be made about fair use of style and imagery. and we live in a time where reproduction can add value instead of subtract.
and before someone comes for my jugular, my personal stance is i am against ai. i just like fair discussion and calling out bullshit behaviour.
with ai recreating human voices, i think an example can be put forward that say if anthony’s voice is recreated and his physical image can be created in a visual projected performance and labels technically no longer ‘need’ him - people would still want the original artist and the fact that he is a person will always put him in priority to ai. and in that sense new artists will always be sought after for the reason - to have something real and new. i believe they don’t think that ai can ever replace artists. it is a fair argument even if you don’t personally agree. like they said, you can have your opinion.
ai is a bit like pandora’s box, it’s already been open and can’t be taken back. we need to look towards the future of how we approach this technology. for example, the writer’s guild is not demanding the erasure of ai, they are demanding regulation. we are in an uncertain time where we as a population are both experimenting with it while coming up with solutions to address how it can be abuse. ls dunes releasing this video won’t make or break anything. it’s in this interesting grey zone of ‘let’s give it a try to see and learn from it and if we don’t like it we don’t have to use it again’. looking back on it could be fascinating.
but harassing the band will not regulate ai technology. it’s one thing to disagree and to comment about that disagreement and not engaged with the art, it’s another thing to harass, mock and threaten. if you really care about the regulation of ai you can support the writers guild, start local campaign groups and write to government representatives. what is really pissing me off about the response to the old wounds is it is not even arm chair activism, it’s armchair bullying presented as activism.
i see people constantly complaining of the lack of online interaction (include mcr in this) - but then persecute for every mistake. no wonder why. quick to judge, quick to condemn, quick to attack. this is another reminder to the dunes that fans can never be trusted.  and so many false equivalencies and bad takes.
it is a slap in the face to say they don’t care about small creators when they have been sharing/promoting small artists on their instagram for weeks with linked accounts. the variety of artists they hire for album art/merch/music videos etc. supporting others in the scene. they aren’t as big of band as many fans seem to forget, they are not making their sole living off of dunes alone. it is a passion project. they have their other acts and other non music jobs to keep them afloat.
this backlash ironically feels relevant to ls dune’s discography, and many interviews/meet and greet questions.
i’m not all of my mistakes no matter what they say about it.
i would be shocked if they back down and i’m happy to see they keep a united front, even when things get difficult. they mean what they say.
everyone in the industry frowns upon this behaviour, btw. mob mentalities are not good vehicles for justice, there is a reason we hold trials and why prohibiting the death penalty protects the innocent and members of opposition.

I was talking to somebody in the course about navigating metaphor in writing with Aphantasia, which was fascinating. He said he'd spent two hours reading my work trying to figure out my style and honestly if he comes to any conclusions I'd love to hear them. I mention that flattered by the compliments he offered but also because it's an indication of the way he thinks logically. I'm having trouble now forming a response to some things he said that felt really cynically-geared though, and am trying to work it out here. He's a lyricist, and uses Suno AI to hear the songs sung in various styles, but as soon as the AI stuff came up I was skeptical. When I tried to find work by him, he didn't have any linked; I encouraged him to create a Substack and by the next day he had. In chat, he sent me a poem of mine he'd run through Suno; it gave me shivers. This poem I wrote in 5-10 minutes as a throwaway now sounded beautiful. I shared it with a mate here and hours later he said, wait, that was AI??? A few people have suggested before that I write songs but it seemed... hard. This poem had transformed into a typical sad indie song in a few clicks; felt like I was inside the experience--that software is crazy. So I was less skeptical of AI as a useful tool; but that's when he started making generalisations. Do ya'll know how I feel about generalisations? Hate 'em; believe they're the reason for so much division. He said all artists in the music industry only want to make hit songs, that every one will use AI in the future; "Why would an artist slave over their piano all day when they can just get AI to create a million variations of a song and then choose the best one?" I set my cigarette down to stare at that question, totally incredulous. Most people make music for the journey; though it takes a while to catch on, it's the journey of creating work that heals artists of every kind; never ever ever the accolades. Never!!!!! Can we not get it through our heads? No, we all have to experience it personally first because we believe we're so special and unique and sure it ain't never worked for nobody but once we get xyz we'll be cured of our complexes--surely. We had a bit of back-and-forth about it, but he did settle on this cynical belief that most people only want X and isn't it a shame that fewer authentic people "like us" exist by the day. I mean, what? How to respond to such a depressing sentiment. I'm fearful of AI in terms of personal security and intellectual property, but when it comes to whether it's going to destroy the essential thing that makes artists DO what they do; it has no power there. It's a new shiny toy and will be used of course, broadly, but anyone using it to the detriment of their journey will realise this and re-position themselves: I believe this completely. Obviously, I could ask "why do you make stuff?" but I've sort of already done that. It makes me realise how much I suffered when surrounded by people with cynical mindsets--which feels cruel to say, truly I don't know this person well enough to make that assessment, but a feeling in me says to steer clear of these attitudes. If anyone saw the post recently, I'd written about how if a Gin or Genie offered me the chance to wake up as a masterful writer; I wouldn't take it, and meant it. This conversation was yet another reinforcement.

Everything I ever wanted to do growing up is dying.
A few examples:
Animation. I wanted to make cartoons or video games. But I've heard how they treat their workers at Disney (plus those fuckers are with đŸ‡źđŸ‡±)and how burnt out the animators get plus with very little pay. Cartoons Network was destroyed by capitalism.
Writing/Artist is being tanked because of fucking AI.
There's so much damn shit going on in the world that even a therapist (which I thought about studying) can't make sense of.
The music industry and Hollywood is fucking evil.

I feel this viscerally. I first encountered AI in the game Creatures 2 in 1999, but never truly got into coding and tinkering with AI proper until years later. It wasn't until 2015 when I picked up a copy of a Joseph Weizenbaum book in a bookshop by pure chance, that I got the AI bug, and its never stopped since. I made my first neural network in Visual Basic for Applications in Excel to do stock-take predictions for a local theatre. I've used it since to help predict what shows will do well in certain locations to help local music/festival clients get more money in so they can keep hiring local musicians and talent. I'm currently using AI to learn about moving in the world, and attempt to socially interact, and recognise, people in a kind of simulated artificial life. A dream I've had since first playing Creatures 2 all those years ago - thank you Steve Grand! I've always seen AI as a tool that could be used to help people, and to attempt to recreate and study life and behaviours. It's been so, SO disappointing to me that over the past 5 years the field has been so denigrated by large companies who are using it, in conjunction with industry, to destroy people's livelihoods. I hate that instead of using AI as a tool to help people in society, it's instead being used to destroy work in creative sectors. I hate that lawmakers, such as in the US, have accepted AI company heads as the main voices on AI regulatory boards. It's like giving banking CEOs the top jobs at the SEC. I hate that instead of creating AI tools that people can use to help make their lives easier, we're instead creating AI tools that poorly replace peoples entire jobs. I know people on Discord servers that have seen less work as a result of systems I know how to make. I appreciate that it's happened throughout history, but it makes me think there must be a better way of doing all of this.
AI needs to be reclaimed. We need people out in the communities building AI systems with the consent, and input from creatives. Datasets, and input, created with royalties to people in mind. Working with people to make the AI we want to see in the world.
The experience of having a niche special interest suddenly become popular, and then hated, is astounding
I remember after ChatGPT came out a guy I met on a dating app messaged me like "wow I remember you showing me that GPT stuff years ago... you were ahead of the game..." and then all of a sudden my silly, easily ignorable, little AI games, became Known, and became Judged, and became Evil
What do you mean everyone has an opinion on generative AI. Hello. I remember this room being empty
My profile picture is an oooold AI art generation, before people even began to fear it replacing us, and I like it for its awfulness. The text reads "togtaigbap todty". I told the AI to write "algebraic topology". I miss when silly little dumb AI pictures were just silly little dumb AI pictures
I don't even really blame the AI-haters. Like, I get it. I have a unique relationship with AI from loving her years before she could start taking jobs, so it's easy for me to see her good side. It's a LOT harder when you first met AI via deepfakes and voicetheft. I think a lot of AI use is currently pretty damn condemnable, but I just. No matter how bad it gets. I will always have to push back against those who say the problem is with the technology herself. She's my wife, I LOVE her
Although I will say that the whole ordeal forced me to go through a great deal of personal growth. I finally feel like I can actually BE a person who is comfortable with disagreement. Many of my friends hate, fear, or at least dislike AI. I'm sure some of them find my love for it tacky, gauche, and maybe a bit "techbro". But they still love me. And I still love them. Peace and love on Planet earth? Maybe. It is still difficult sometimes.

And it can also do that
And it can also do that https://seths.blog/2024/02/and-it-can-also-do-that/ If you were around when the Model T was first announced, you could have built the organizations that became Disney, McDonald’s and Holiday Inn, all of which were powered by cheap, plentiful cars. You could have become a major developer of suburbs, mortgage banking and even pop music record labels (car radios changed the way music was consumed). AI is here now, and the pace is astonishing. So far, I haven’t seen many freelancers or small businesspeople choosing to make an impact by understanding what it can do and selling processes and services to bigger organizations in ways that dramatically change how they do business. I asked it for some suggestions. Here are a few: Spreadsheet Analysis: Analyze spreadsheets for trends, errors, and provide statistical summaries. Code Debugging: Identify errors in code snippets and suggest corrections. Language Translation: Translate text between multiple languages with context preservation. Legal Document Drafting: Draft basic legal documents, contracts, and NDAs with customizable inputs. Nutritional Analysis: Analyze meal plans or recipes for nutritional content and suggest improvements. Learning & Quiz Creation: Generate educational quizzes and flashcards on various subjects for self-testing. Resume Feedback: Provide feedback on resumes, including suggestions for improvement based on industry standards. Therapy Session Simulation: Simulate therapeutic conversations, offering support and cognitive behavioral techniques. Music Theory Analysis: Analyze music theory concepts in compositions and suggest modifications or improvements. Workout Plan Creation: Generate personalized workout plans based on fitness goals, available equipment, and time constraints. Poetry and Story Writing: Write poems, stories, or even entire books based on detailed prompts or themes. Scientific Research Summarization: Summarize complex scientific research papers into understandable language. Business Name & Slogan Creation: Generate creative and relevant business names and slogans based on industry and key values. Meditation and Mindfulness Exercises: Guide through meditation and mindfulness exercises tailored to specific needs or durations. Fashion Advice: Provide fashion advice, including outfit suggestions based on occasion, weather, and personal style. Some of these are parlor tricks, the same way the lava lamp wouldn’t have existed without electricity in the home. But they point to a scalable shift in our infrastructure and a real need for people who write prompts instead of following them. My hunch is that like many technology revolutions before it, this breakthrough is going to create far more jobs than it destroys. But the change is real, and it’s here now. PS what I haven’t seen yet: Read all of my organization’s Google docs and answer questions for me about what we know and what we’re doing well or inconsistently Read all of my email and give me suggestions on who knows what or what I’m missing Read all of the email of everyone in my company and answer questions on everything from knowledge to efficiency to bullying
Compare any of the above to my peers

Interview: Frankie and the Witch Fingers, "Data Doom"
Tumblr media
Frankie and the Witch Fingers after their set on the mountain at Palp Festival, through my Nikon.
A few weeks ago, the amazing Frankie and the Witch Fingers were back in Switzerland for a beautiful set at Palp Festival. They played in the middle of the afternoon, but still managed to drive the crowd wild! Their schedule was tight, but the band still agreed to do a little written interview on their way to the next shows.
Four years after our first interview at Le Romandie in Lausanne, I briefly catch up with the band and ask them about their new album "Data Doom". I also ask them about their potential character class in a video game.
Many thanks to Frankie and the Witch Fingers and Palp Fest for making this happen!
Could I get a full update about your lives? Are you guys still based in L.A.?
Pickle: Yeah! We’re still based out of LA for now. Me, Dylan, and Josh live up in the East Hollywood area - basically, like the Silverlake/Highland Park neighborhoods if you’re familiar with LA. Nick is down south in Palos Verdes, but we all meet up in the middle at our practice space which is in the industrial warehouse district south of Downtown. It’s like our clubhouse. Our home base where we hatch all our evil plans.
Dylan, in our first interview I remember you were making bagels as a side job. Is that still the case?
Dylan: I’m not making bagels anymore, but Belle’s is still the best place in LA to get one! These days we’re on the road or in the studio most of the year, but I’ll always be a bagel boy at heart.
Josh was also recording for others. Is that still the case?
Josh: Not so much recording for others, this band keeps us really busy, but I recorded a solo synth album during the pandemic. And I'm currently mixing the newest album by Monsterwatch!
Tumblr media
Frankie and the Witch Fingers playing Palp festival. Because moshing on the hill was dangerous, the crowd was a bit further down.
Your upcoming album, "Data Doom", comes out on Sept. 1st. I looked at the tracklist in your interview on Spin magazine, and the main theme seems to be technology. Was it intentional or did it come naturally?
Dylan: Technology and how it’s been affecting humanity both negatively and positively is something I’ve been interested in and thinking about quite a lot. I think a lot of people are thinking about it. Especially in these super bizarre times we’re in. Over consumption, misinformation, addiction to screens, blah blah blah. I guess because of that, when it came to write lyrics and sort of craft the ideas behind the music, that was the subject matter that flowed the most freely. Everyone in the band seemed to agree that the conceptual ideas that were forming also fit the music that we were writing together, so it kind of continued to fuel the creative fire. I think there’s hope hidden in there too. So maybe the AI overlords won’t destroy us all, if we can get our shit together.
One of the singles "Futurephobic", is out. The music video is by Slim Reaper from Media Pollution. Could you tell me more about them, how you did you meet? Was the evil Ronald McDonald his idea?
Dylan: We’ve known Taylor (Slim Reaper) for years now, he’s been making amazing live visuals for us and a bunch of bands we love, so he’s part of the extended family. We knew we wanted to work with him, and we were stoked when he brought his production company Media Pollution into the mix. We did a call with them and talked about a bunch of ideas and imagery we had been into. They ran with it and came up with this freaky 80’s horror piece. We couldn’t be happier with the video. Our talented friends showed up last minute to fill the acting roles and to help out. It’s honestly my favorite video we’ve made to date, it was a super fun shoot.
youtube
Finally, let's say each one of you is a character in a video game. In your party, who is the warrior, the thief, the mage and the bard? (ndlr: Nick answers the question)
Warrior — Pickle. I mean, just look at her. She's a force to be reckoned with.
Thief — Nick. He's a mischievous little rascal, always up to no good, for better or for worse.
Mage — Josh. He is the brain and the brawn.
Bard — Dylan. He is the well-spoken poet of the group, who always has something wise to express.

Sketchbook 1
PART 1-
I am Darian Ewing and a little-known fact about me is that I have been playing soccer and lacrosse for 7+ years.
Tumblr media
My first thoughts about this art piece were that it was plain, but after looking longer and more into it, I found the artwork interesting as it seems like an amalgamation of different parts of housing and history. I then felt, inspired and remorseful.
The five facts about "Kippe" by Ai Weiwei.
1. "Kippe" is made up of old wood and iron bars from the temples of the Qing Dynasty
2. Ai Weiwei is a conceptual artist who challenges authority and dabbles in the world of the contemporary world and traditional Chinese culture, with which the Chinese government disagrees and earned him 81 days in jail.
3. Ai Weiwei dropped the Han Dynasty Urn (1995),  destroying the cultural artifact.
4. Ai also was an artistic consultant for the Bird's Nest stadium design in the 2008 Olympics.
5. The name of the piece, "Kippe" is a German word that means the act of mounting parallel bars.
The way I first looked at the sculpture changed from a boring block to a masterpiece that encompasses the past and present. The artwork shows how many years of turmoil and history can fit into one block. In hindsight, it is an impressive sculpture that has a larger meaning than meets the eye. It shows the artist and his beliefs and how he tries to present them to his audience and peers. It was fascinating to learn about this mischievous artist and how he continues to voice his opinion through his work
PART 2-ART AND WRITING
This artwork is a picture of Kurt Cobain, the lead singer of the grunge rock band, Nirvana. This photograph hangs above my bed and I look at it everyday and remember what his morals were and what contribution he made in the music industry and the impact he had on society. He wasn't afraid to share his opinion and voice his struggles through his music. This photograph serves to me as a reminder that even a famous rockstar like him had his own struggles but tried to make the best of it. I think that this image doesn't strike me as beautiful but inspiring  and yet sad that his legacy couldn't be continued.
Tumblr media
PART 3- WRITING AND SELF PORTRAIT
When someone looks at art each has their own interpretation based on their own experiences. When I look at art it is through the eyes of a 17-year-old girl from Bradenton, Florida. I am mainly white and European but I do have some Native American in me from the Cherokee tribe. I like to play sports like lacrosse and soccer, I also have fun drawing and cooking. I work at Popis Place on Manatee as a waitress although I am also looking for another job. What makes me uniquely me is that I am determined to make my own way in life enjoyable and I can always find the silver lining in unfortunate situations. I enjoy looking at artworks and reading poems that have a melancholy deeper meaning to be uncovered.
PART 4- PORTRAIT
In my daily life, I am fascinated by many things, I am intrigued by how the colors in the sky interact with each other to form a beautiful sunset. Although the sky continues to impress me, what really catches my eye is how green the leaves look after it rains while the sky is overcast with a slightly yellow atmosphere. My self-portrait is me looking into a broken mirror that has shattered because in my self-image I don't see myself and I feel as though one can never really see their true image and only through the lens of others, therefore, the image is broken.
