A royal wedding to rejuvenate the Windsors
New Post has been published on http://harryandmeghan.xyz/a-royal-wedding-to-rejuvenate-the-windsors/
A royal wedding to rejuvenate the Windsors
Tumblr media
And that was the Firm’s plan for the weekend.
A former senior courtier at Kensington Palace said the British royal family have one supreme talent: “They have always been able to maintain relevance.”
In every aspect on Saturday, their plan succeeded.
The Firm.

It could have gone horribly wrong. The “Markle debacle” lead-up to the wedding had proven an uncomfortable distraction, and Windsor creaked at the seams trying to fit a London-sized party into a medieval town.
But no fears for the day were realised. When the British royal family marries Hollywood you can count on high production values. Even the British weather behaved.
Beneath a bluebird sky, the newly married couple take a ride in a horse-drawn carriage.

One British tabloid plonked the untestable claim “best wedding ever” on its front page. Almost all the newspapers took their planned coverage and doubled it: 41 pages in the Sun, 47 in the Mail.
There were enough talking points to keep social media buzzing with glee for days. A star was born in voluble American preacher Michael Curry, whose largely-improvised address delighted the Archbishop of Canterbury (“preaching is not a past art … it just blew the place open” he said afterwards, hands waving with excitement. “There is nothing conventional about Christianity!”)
Bishop Michael Curry giving his much-discussed sermon.

Expect more evangelical noises from Lambeth Palace in the future, if Archbishop Welby’s excitement is anything to go by.
The Firm’s long-term strategy required this to be a big success.
This was the royals’ last chance at a big event for a while – unless you count funerals, and counter to some conspiracy theories those are not scheduled in advance.
The list of upcoming royal weddings is short: Princess Eugenie will marry Jack Brooksbank in October at St George’s Chapel. Only the most diligent royal fans even know how to pronounce her name.
Unless there’s a royal baby the next big set piece, sadly, will be the death of the Duke of Edinburgh or the Queen herself. And with significant numbers of Britons unhappy about the line of succession, that’s likely to be a time not only of mourning, but of instability for Windsor.
There was some sugar for Prince Charles on Saturday. Though it was said to be Meghan’s request, the decision for him to take her arm as the bride approached the altar was money in the bank for his eventual kingship.
“Thank you, pa,” Harry said as Charles handed over Meghan. “No, thank you,” would have been the silent response.
Meghan Markle accompanied by Prince Charles.

And the wedding is calculated to help Britain’s bottom line, too, though the figures are disputed by republicans.
Experts were predicting it would add £1 billion ($1.8 billion) to the British fashion economy alone, let alone tourism, merchandise and “soft power” – the in-vogue name for old-fashioned cultural influence.
Vogue has already dubbed Meghan the “oxytocin of fashion” (in a good way). Her style is “feelgood and infused with realness”, the style bible insisted, her choices “send messages” to be decoded as cultural signals as well as shopping lists (haute couture aside, clothes and accessories she is seen wearing sell out in hours).
In a sign Meghan has studied well for her role, she chose two British designers for her dresses for the day (albeit one from a French design house). And in a sign she is learning the royal knack for wordless messages, both designers were women: Clare Waight Keller the first female artistic director at Givenchy, and Stella McCartney.
She wore a dress by the first female artistic director at Givenchy.
Photo: AAP
There were racial messages in the ceremony too, deliberately chosen. Her Majesty’s government is under pressure over a racially-charged anti-immigrant policy against its black “Windrush generation”, and the Queen had to work hard to ensure her son inherits the leadership of the Commonwealth when she passes on.
With a biracial bride, and black faces prominent in the congregation and the streets of Windsor, the wedding struck a clear note of inclusivity and multiculturalism.
Business valuation and strategy consultancy Brand Finance expects a tourism boost for Britain lasting at least another year, especially from the USA, and says the wedding broadcast, online and print coverage had an “advertising value equivalency” of almost half a billion pounds ($850 million).
It’s more than tourism dollars at stake now.
Photo: AAP
The challenge now, is to bank the gains.
The honeymoon will literally soon be over and tabloids are fickle and there will be a fierce spotlight of attention on the couple for years to come.
It’s going to be an adjustment for Meghan. Though she has some experience of celebrity this will be a new level. One experienced royal correspondent said, “she is coming into a whole new culture, where all of a sudden she is going to have to watch what she is saying with her political positions, and she can no longer walk down the street to the supermarket. The biggest thing is she will find new boundaries”.
But it will be an adjustment for Harry, too.
Harry’s press tours have in the past been almost collegiate. He frankly distrusts much of the media, but among the permanent royal correspondent corps he has been friendly, joking and let his hackles drop.
But the press and photography contingents at anything the couple does now will be huge, and he will be “kept much further back”, one correspondent predicts.
“It will be harder to get the more personal stories.”

Meet the team: Mark Waldron
Mark has been with Move Revolution for 4 years and recently took over our Sevenoaks region. He’s doing a brilliant job and loves Sevenoaks, Westerham, Biggin Hill and all the local villages…we caught up with him to find out his secrets.
Where did you grow up and how did you get into Estate Agency?
I grew up in Crawley and went to college at Collyer’s in Horsham before heading to university in Canterbury to study Economics. I quickly realised a job based solely in an office environment wasn’t for me and that I needed a bit more variety! With a background in Economics… a ‘head for numbers’, but wanting to be ‘out and about’ and have lots of client contact,  I decided to go into estate agency.  I was lucky to start my career working for an independent agent in Whitstable, if you’ve ever been to Whitstable you will know it’s a beautiful town on the coast in Kent packed with stunning cottages and a wonderful selection of houses in the local villages – a very picturesque place to work.
Why Move Revolution?
After 12 months of seeing how a ‘traditional agency’ worked I was keen to find a better way of working. I discovered the estate agent Move Revolution, met with a few members of the Move Revolution team and realised that their way of working was forward thinking model.  My eyes were opened, particularly with regards to working in an office, not a high street ‘shop’,  and importantly having an expert team support team – professional photographers and a dedicated Sales Progression Team…
If you’re reading this, you probably know about the Move Revolution “difference” but in a nutshell, it’s about outstanding customer service delivered by expert estate agents, photographers and sales progressors who genuinely care that buyers and tenants move into their new homes as quickly at possible!
What do you love about what you do?
I love the challenges that each day brings, I love meeting different people each day and the ability to get out and about, but most of all I love the feeling of selling someone their dream home, and handing over the keys when they complete on their sale!
What’s your favourite style of property/interiors?
My love Victorian and Edwardian homes packed with the character – the high ceilings and picture rails that so often feature in these period homes.
We’d love to see a selection of your favourite properties you’ve sold while at Move Revolution, can you share them with us?
I loved selling this house because it was such a quintessential village home in Sevenoaks, lots of period features, formerly the village post office.
And these are a selection of my favourite shots of a couple of some memorable homes.
We hear you’re a big fan of coffee, where do you like to go for a perfect cup?
My current favourite is Darcey’s in Sevenoaks which is an independent speciality coffee house. Their beans are roasted on site and I have to say, it’s superb. The cakes aren’t bad either! I’d definitely recommend to anyone who likes coffee, it’s worth a visit.
A couple of my other coffee stop off points are Deli di Luca in Westerham and if I’m going to our head office I’ll pop into Robertsons in Oxted on the way. Both are great!
So that’s it, the man behind the Move Revolution Sevenoaks office! If you live in the area and want to sell your home, give him a call on 01732 617617 or fill in the valuation form.
