India and Independence- Part 1
Tomorrow, 15th of August, is when India celebrates her 77th Independence day and I'd like to rant on everything that should be brought in spotlight. Here we go:
Religion and its role in today's India: I expect we all know what's the current state of religion is in India. It has became no more than a political tool to gain votes. Nothing more. People kill, torture, rape, exploit in the name of religion. The united front this country once presented in the face of the colonisers has long been collapsed. People of different faith find themselves questioning their safety and rights in our country. Have we all forgotten? That in the struggle of independence, we didn't see eachother as hindu, muslims or Sikh, we were just Indians. That during the Jallian wala bagh shootings, the Britishers didn't discriminate between Hindus and muslims, they open fired at all. So why today we point fingers at eachother? Why does extremist parties still thrive in this country who spread religious hatred and entice communal violence? They put on a facade that 'blah blah religion is under threat' and naively everyone agrees. The higher ups plays with the religious beliefs so that they can remain in that position of power. We must remind ourselves this independence day that as long as we foster religious hate, we are never going to develop.
Deep rooted patriarchy and it's cruel effects on the women of this country: Oh I can never run out of words when speaking on this topic. Whether you're a man who has been told since childhood that "boys don't cry" or a woman who has experienced all the atrocities committed by people around you just because you're a woman. We all have experienced the toxic effects of Patriarchy in our daily lives. The mindset that men are superior, more logical, more capable, owner of the house, women are emotional, weak, should stay at home, lower their voices while talking to men, each and every one of this point mixes the poison of Patriarchy deeper into the rivers of this country. It is so deeply engraved that people don't even bat an eyelash when a husband treats his wife like shit. Domestic abuse is common in India. Violence against women is justified. "Husbands have a right to beat their wives", I heard this from the mouth of my own grandmother 2 days ago. This country got independence 77 years ago, but women don't have any in this country. From the second we step out of their homes, men eye us lecherously, we step into our workplace, the manager gives us a creepy smile, we go to schools and colleges, the principal teaches us "don't dress provocatively." Where are the morals? Rape has became so common that we don't understand how horrific it is. And how do the rapists get punished? Bilkis bano's rapists were bailed out and were felicitated with garlands and bouquets as if they did some great thing for the country. THEY GANG RAPED HER. Nirbhaya's case (Delhi 2012), changed nothing! The convicts were hanged yes, but what did the government do to lessen the chances of another nirbhaya? What did they do to protect the women of our country? Nothing. Prajjwal Revanna, a renowned politician, whose rally our honourable pm😍 himself attended, had raped women and had recorded sex tapes of him doing the act. What was the action taken against him? Nothing. The recent news that cut deeply through the medical community, The kolkata doctor's horrific rape and brutal murder. She had completed her 36 HOUR shift and had dinner with her juniors at 2 am. Then went to rest in the seminar hall. What are they doing to bring justice? Nothing, just false assurances. All this country does is sits back and wait for another Bilkis bano, another nirbhaya, another female doctor. When is this going to change?
I wanted to delve even deeper into the issues but the post is getting too long. So, wait for part 2 ig?

Gulf migration is not just a major phenomenon in Kerala; north Indian states also see massive migration to the Gulf. Uttar Pradesh and Bihar accounted for the biggest share (30% and 15%) of all Indian workers migrating to GCC1 countries in 2016-17 (Khan 2023)—a trend which continues today. Remittances from the Gulf have brought about significant growth in Bihar’s economy (Khan 2023)—as part of a migrant’s family, I have observed a tangible shift in the quality of life, education, houses, and so on, in Siwan. In Bihar, three districts—Siwan, Gopalganj, and Chapra—send the majority of Gulf migrants from the state, mostly for manual labor (Khan 2023). Bihar also sees internal migration of daily wagers to Delhi, Bombay, and other parts of India. Gulf migration from India’s northern regions, like elsewhere in India, began after the oil boom in the 1970s. Before this time, migration was limited to a few places such as Assam, Calcutta, Bokaro, and Barauni—my own grandfather worked in the Bokaro steel factory.
Despite the role of Gulf migration and internal migration in north Indian regions, we see a representational void in popular culture. Bollywood films on migration largely use rural settings, focussing on people who work in the USA, Europe, or Canada. The narratives centre these migrants’ love for the land and use dialogue such as ‘mitti ki khusbu‘ (fragrance of homeland). Few Bollywood films, like Dor and Silvat, portray internal migration and Gulf migration. While Bollywood films frequently centre diasporic experiences such as Gujaratis in the USA and Punjabis in Canada, they fail in portraying Bihari migrants, be they indentured labourers in the diaspora, daily wagers in Bengal, or Gulf migrants. The regional Bhojpuri film industry fares no better in this regard. ‘A good chunk of the budget is spent on songs since Bhojpuri songs have an even larger viewership that goes beyond the Bhojpuri-speaking public’, notes Ahmed (2022), marking a context where there is little purchase for Gulf migration to be used as a reference to narrate human stories of longing, sacrifice, and family.
One reason for this biased representation of migration is that we see ‘migration’ as a monolith. In academic discourse, too, migration is often depicted as a commonplace phenomenon, but I believe it is crucial to make nuanced distinctions in the usage of the terms ‘migration’ and ‘migrant’. The term ‘migration’ is a broad umbrella term that may oversimplify the diverse experiences within this category. My specific concern is about Gulf migrants, as their migration often occurs under challenging circumstances. For individuals from my region, heading to the Gulf is typically a last resort. This kind of migration leads to many difficulties, especially when it distances migrants from their family for much of their lifetime. The term ‘migration’, therefore, inadequately captures the profound differences between, for instance, migrating to the USA for educational purposes and migrating to the Gulf for labour jobs. Bihar has a rich history of migration, dating back to the era of indentured labor known as girmitiya. Following the abolition of slavery in 1883, colonial powers engaged in the recruitment of laborers for their other colonies through agreements (Jha 2019). Girmitiya distinguishes itself from the migration. People who are going to the Arabian Gulf as blue-collar labourers are also called ‘Gulf migrants’—a term that erases how their conditions are very close to slavery. This is why, as a son who rarely saw his father, I prefer to call myself a ‘victim of migration’ rather than just a ‘part of migration’. It is this sense of victimhood and lack of control over one’s life that I saw missing in Bollywood and Bhojpuri cinema.

hi, jalebi, hope life is treating you well.I watched your interview with Utkarsh Naithani,it was absolute delight and kind if a tutorial class of story-writting.keep it up and waiting for many more interviews like that. And I got to see your face too😍,which was a sight for sore eyes.
I want your absolute opinion on the fact that do you think that the introduction of kidnapping tract had disrupted the flow of IPKKND and kind of destroyed what the writters had previously had in mind?
thank you.
Tumblr media
Thank you so much for the sweet comment <3 Uff, you and your taareef.
Now, regarding to your question;
do you think that the introduction of kidnapping tract had disrupted the flow of IPKKND and kind of destroyed what the writters had previously had in mind?
To be very honest, the introduction of the kidnapping track brought the show back on track - for me. The show started addressing everything that was needed. The circumstance of the marriage. The fact that Arnav wouldn't believe Khushi. The fact that the situation was against Khushi. And that Shyam was upto something, he would take revenge against Arnav.
All the characters and situations were put on a RUDE pause from the end of Holi until the terrace scene (which worked into the kidnapping).
I have, legit, NO idea what the writers had in mind. Because the writers were writing aimless comedy, forgot the weight of the situation. And the months from Holi to Arnav leaving for London had absolutely little sense. It raised FAR too many questions, character rewrites, motivation rewrites, than anything else.
I believe, given the situation Arnav and Khushi was in - nothing would've been able to shift them away from bitterness apart from the fact that they loved each other UNTIL it was, literally, a matter of life and death between the characters.
We got back the telepathy, the hurt. Khushi is no longer a stupid woman trying to get back at the man who holds the reins of her sister's marriage in his hand by annoying him? (WTF was that logic)
Rather she's back to being the intelligent, hurt woman, who painfully knows that if things were fine - he'd never say he loved her.
So what went wrong with the show is not the kidnapping track but how they showed the investigation.
I laughed at them forgetting Khushi is a Raizada. If, let's say Manish Malhotra's relative goes to the police fearing Manish Malhotra's safety. The police is not going to laugh at it. We know how the police treat the elite class. Remember how upon Lavanya Kashyap's (who is not even a Raizada) phone call the police had arrived at Shantivan personally to do an employment check?
Which by the the police don't have to carry out by themselves. Employees submit themselves and police verifies the history and fingerprints. But just because the house was Shantivan - they were ready to do basic duty. Secondly, not everyone in Delhi can just gently hold Delhi Police's hand and escort them out of the house.
Arnav Singh Raizada can.
So, the kidnapping, Khushi's intuition and disbelief over Arnav's confession, her constant panic and the family sending her to Lucknow and even she and Mami getting suspicious of Arnav reaching London or not were BRILLIANTLY done.
And even with Arnav, right. Forced upon this horrific situation he is stripped of his prejudices, fears and doubt. He loves her. She feels strongly for him (she nearly confessed before he left). She wanted his trust.
It was a great way to reset the dynamic between the two.
And FINALLY Shyam is doing something as a villain. He wants everything Arnav owns, everything Arnav has. It starts with his assets and ends with Khushi.
Also Khushi knows Shyam is enough of a horrid man to actually pull something like this off? She's suspicious of him from the START. And we see her dealing with her abuser and the threat of Shyam being under the roof as her.
What went wrong is in the execution of second half of kidnapping track:
Arnav's LIFE is at stake. Just why has she NOT confided in Akash? He's right THERE. Why not in Payal? Just how is the 'ghar ki shanti' more important than the life of the head of the household?
What was the whole stupid James Bond thing with Manorama?
WHY WAS NO ONE UNDERSTANDING THAT A RAIZADA WAS SEEKING HELP?
What was the stupid "let's honeytrap Shyam" plan?
Just why were they doing Tom and Jerry stuffs to trap Shyam?
In short, why did the intelligence just disappear in the execution of this track?
WHY DO BABLI AND MASALA MAMA EXIST? (Honestly, I felt if Akash and Payal had a more relevant, important track the kidnapping track could have felt better than this demon child cause EVERYONE loved Akash Payal).
Actually introduced a really good cameo of a private detective/police inspector who would work in private sensing a bigger threat.
Either way, I have far less issues with the stupid kidnapping track because I got Arnav and Khushi back, and I got Shyam back. The three wheels of the story, their characterization, their plots, were on track.
And this is my absolute opinion of the kidnapping track.
Best,
Jalebi

Storytime:-
So, when I had recently shifted to south delhi, our colony only had like 5 houses (abhi 20-35 se jyada honge) and out of them 4 were rich 2 storey houses while one was a jaisa-taisa rented apartment ghar with 4 floors (where I lived). So, sabse gareeb log apartment me rehte the and others were so fucking rude to us like- gajab insaan the. I and other children of the flat would be playing outside and they will be shouting at us to go to home and to get disciplined and other nonsense. Auntyji I am literally 5 what do u expect? The worst one was this woman who loved to call us "uncultured" (in a time i didn't even knew it's meaning) (she was A TEACHER i feel bad for her students). She had 2 sons like 5 yr older than me and at first we used to play together then vo bhi apni maa ke disha mein chale gye. That woman made kid-me's blood boil. The Adults were also tired of her (she would throw literal tantrums if a cow enters our gully and then would fucking hit the poor animal with a broom cuz she can, like Bhai itne laadsahab ho toh society me raho gully mein toh Aisa hi chalta hai). I am usually a nice obeying kid but I started insulting her in HER face. One time she told the baccha party "Shoo! Shor machate rehte hai, headache kar ke rakha hai" and I replied with "Aapke papa ke Ghar mein khel rhe hai jo aapki baat maane?" (Yeah, that is the most rebellious I can get). Her sons specially didn't like my new self and started y'know gaaliyaan aadan pradaan karna. I didn't even knew most of their meaning, I was literally 8 that time. Though, ek baar mera sar aisa ghooma ki I literally slapped one of them. MAHABHARATTT. Yeah, i fought with 2 boys ages older than me all alone (still one of my proudest moments, specially since meine ek ki shirt faar di thi ha vo alag baat hai ki mujhe sprain ekdum ganda waala aaya tha). After that, that aunty went around trying to blacken my name (that worked greatly) uss ne yeh nhi bataya ki uske ladko ne Jo shabd bole the. For the next few years, I was the infamous ladaku ladki of my gully. Which I loved and hated at the same time.

Celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi: Best Wishes to All from Colonel Rajyavardhan Rathore
Tumblr media
Ganesh Chaturthi
Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi, is one of the most joyously celebrated Hindu festivals in India, honoring Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles and the god of beginnings. This auspicious festival typically falls in the months of August or September, marking the start of a ten-day festival filled with vibrant rituals, prayers, and community gatherings across the country.
The Significance of Ganesh Chaturthi
Historical and Cultural Importance
Ganesh Chaturthi holds deep historical and cultural significance in Indian traditions. It is believed to have originated in the state of Maharashtra during the reign of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as a public festival to unify people against colonial rule and foster a spirit of unity and patriotism. Over time, it has transcended regional boundaries to become a national celebration symbolizing harmony and togetherness.
Religious Observances and Rituals
Devotees prepare meticulously for Ganesh Chaturthi, cleaning and decorating their homes and setting up elaborate pandals (temporary structures) to house Ganesha idols. The festival commences with the Pranapratishtha, the ceremonial installation of the idol, followed by daily prayers, offerings (prasad), and aarti (devotional songs). Modaks, a sweet delicacy considered Lord Ganesha’s favorite, are prepared and distributed as a gesture of reverence.
Colonel Rajyavardhan Rathore’s Perspective on Ganesh Chaturthi
Colonel Rajyavardhan Rathore, a distinguished Indian politician and former Olympian, extends his heartfelt wishes to all on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. His admiration for the festival stems from its ability to unite people from diverse backgrounds in celebrating faith, positivity, and communal harmony. Colonel Rathore emphasizes the festival’s role in promoting cultural values and social cohesion, reflecting its importance in today’s interconnected world.
Celebrations Across India
Maharashtra: The Epicenter of Festivities
Maharashtra, particularly Mumbai, witnesses unparalleled fervor during Ganesh Chaturthi. The streets come alive with processions carrying beautifully crafted idols of Lord Ganesha, accompanied by traditional music and dance. The immersion procession on Anant Chaturdashi, the last day of the festival, is a spectacle as thousands bid adieu to their beloved deity amidst chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya.”
Southern India: Unique Traditions and Customs
In southern states like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh, Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated with equal zeal. Homes and community centers host Ganesha idols adorned with fragrant flowers and vibrant decorations. Families come together to perform Ganesh puja, offer prayers, and share festive meals, reinforcing bonds and fostering a sense of unity.
Northern India: Embracing Diversity
In states like Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, Ganesh Chaturthi is marked by communal harmony as people from different backgrounds participate in the festivities. Public pandals showcase awe-inspiring idols of Lord Ganesha, attracting devotees and tourists alike. The festival transcends religious boundaries, exemplifying India’s cultural diversity and spirit of inclusivity.
Environmental Consciousness: Embracing Eco-Friendly Celebrations
Shift Towards Sustainability
In recent years, there has been a growing awareness about the environmental impact of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. Many communities and individuals are opting for eco-friendly Ganesha idols made from clay and natural materials, which dissolve in water without harming aquatic life. This eco-conscious approach reflects a commitment to preserving the environment while honoring religious traditions.
