Guys... I'm confused about something. Wondering if someone can explain this line in Dark Age to me.

What the fuck... does this mean?? What is he talking about? What "old debt"??

These books have a very complex and extensive historical and political landscape; this is hardly the first time someone has referenced some past event or grievance or feud and I've been like "wait, what?" and needed to be reminded of some influential happening. But I cannot for the life of me think of what this could be alluding to.

(I'm loathe to try looking it up bc I still haven't read Light Bringer, and I'm worried googling anything Red Rising related might spoil something for me; so it would be wonderful if someone was kind enough to explain it to me.)

Happy STS! I hope you’ve had a good week :) your OCs are forced to spend the night in a haunted house, how does that go? Does anyone try to take charge? Who is the most scared?

Happy STS! The week was a little unproductive in terms of writing, but I'm still feeling good about things! Hope you're doing well 💕

Hehehe. I love this prompt so much! Anything spooky immediately has my attention, and thinking about it in terms of Agent Ace makes it even better!

Sophia would naturally take the lead, gun ready and ears pricked up for anything unnatural. She's been a fan of horror since she was little, so even if she didn't already have the experience of a Guardian and Watch agent, she'd be in her element. However, Janus would take this opportunity to sabotage her at every turn. While Sophia does everything she can to keep the group safe and together, he's wandering off down random hallways shouting to the ghosts and insulting them for their cowardice. Generally just causing shenanigans and putting himself in danger he knows he can narrowly pull himself out of.

Jet would wander, too, but for a different reason. He'd scout the house for threats—specifically dolls. Not much unnerves him, but every doll in his path is getting immediately decimated if it so much as looks at him funny. Bellona would eventually join in on the rampage, not because she was convinced they were haunted, but because she was bored waiting for the others and this looked like fun.

August would arrive decked out with salt, candles, smudge sticks, a crucifix, the whole shebang. He'd set it all up in his designated 'safe room' while Sophia insisted to no avail that it wasn't necessary. For the rest of the night, he'd then attempt to strike up conversations with the ghosts, and when Sophia snapped at him to put it away, he'd argue that they may have something important to say.

Ahren would designate himself as the 'babysitter,' watching over Harley and her friends so Sophia could focus on doing her job. He would try and fail to hide how anxious he was, but he's the one who will jump at any little thing that might happen. Max, once he saw how frightened Ahren truly was, would sit with him and try to comfort him, even though he'd be scared shitless himself. He'd teach him the grounding techniques he uses to recover from panic attacks, and I imagine they'd actually bond a fair bit over this (which is nice, since the two of them don't get much one-on-one time)!

Jade hates the house, and she would start filming everything she does so there's proof of what happened to them in case they didn't make it out alive. Harley tries to intervene before Sophia gets annoyed with it, but she ends up joining the video and they turn it into a ghost-hunting documentary. Sophia lets it go because she sees that it actually helps Jade feel better, and they're both having fun with. Harley leads and narrates them through the house while Jade follows and backs her up with commentary. Along the way, they'd write nice messages for the ghosts in the dust and shut any windows to keep them warm. The others all make their own cameos with varying degrees of composure and sanity. At this point, I'll leave that up to your imagination!

was thinking about that valgrace drabble i wrote for valgrace week because i miss them and its time to start speculating on that au.

so the image i kind of had for that drabble, like about the arena, was basically daedalus’ labyrinth in mind. because of the constant dead ends and the monsters around the corner, the fighting ring where ethan nakamura was introduced, etc. except it wouldn’t be underground nor would the walls be made out of whatever material the labyrinth was (i forgot).

but rather a maze made out of sand. so there’d be scorpions, they’d have to constantly move because the maze shifts and the walls would dissolve and open up new paths. along with pools of lava, of course. and not to kill off our tributes so quickly with exhaustion, heatstrokes and lack of water, there’s obviously little bits of water here and there. basically they’re fighting for their lives out in a desert and just, you know, have to gamble on whether or not the ponds or cacti they find aren’t poisonous.

at least that’s how it is for valgrace’s arena.

for percy’s arena, its centered around water because duh, i can’t ever let go references or symbolism. reyna’s arena would be similar to the roman colosseums. just to name a couple. i don’t think annabeth would’ve been reaped but i do think she is a stylist alongside pollux (castor died in his arena).

for the rest of the seven and co (i have a mutual’s tags in mind as i write this, love u to the moon and back for ranting away), thalia would indeed be a victor and nico would indeed have been taken in by the grace siblings after bianca’s death.

that goes without saying, reyna would have been frank’s mentor. grover, i think, would have been a mentor as well. i just have no idea who would he have mentored because i’m not assigning districts at the moment. (not yet at least aside from the grace siblings and our children of war from new rome)

so the arenas. definitely inspired from ancient greek and rome along with the books. like the labyrinth for example. bianca’s arena most likely would’ve been related to the underworld. so getting through the fields of punishment yada yada. since we’re being practical, another arena would be similar to tartarus so completely underground with no sun, just nothing but the rivers and caves and whatnot in sight (this would be lee’s arena and if so, he probably dies to save micheal. if its micheal’s arena then he would die to save will). then there’s places like olympus with the columns and since in mythology, its in the sky, the floors would probably be chipped away as in, some of the tributes might either die from the rubble OR you know, sink holes. joyful, isn’t it? atlantis, an actual death match battlefield probably, volcanoes, the ice palace with khione (i don’t remember what exactly it was or which book that’s from bare with me), the wolf house (that would be fun), the forest from camp half-blood with killer vultures.

ummmm i feel like i’m missing a few but you basically get the idea.

a lot to pick and who actually on who’s arena it could be, who would’ve won, etc etc. that also goes without saying, luke castellan is still a traitor unfortunately. so is silena. isn’t it fun that there’s twelve districts with twelve cabins (at least when we aren’t counting the rest but even then there’s about 24 cabins in total i think. i haven’t been caught up with pjo in a while my bad guys) so all the half siblings are still together and still have to watch each other die? oh the angst, its fantastic. (i’m no better than a game master i fear)

i like to think the children of war—ares/mars, athena, aphrodite/venus, bellona, etc—are most likely victors whether its on their own or they come from a long line of victors. so reyna and hylla, frank and his mother, annabeth, the aphrodite and ares kids, etc etc.

this came out way longer than i thought BUT its very fun to think about. i don’t know if i’ll ever turn this into a fic, i have my hands full as is but as always, i’ll let you know anyway

I’ve debated about this for a while, talking to people in a discord server about it and shit like that. But in my opinion I feel like there are various routes you could take with this.

For example, say ashlyn or aiden are one of the MAIN characters. So a child of the big three. But I think they both do not fit Poseidon.

I feel like Ashlyn would be a child of Zeus, and Aiden would be a child of Hades. I don’t think I really need to explain why I think this, but wtv..

To sum it up, Zeus with Ashlyn because she took on the role as leader. And some more shit but wtv,

And Aiden as Hades because he’s edgy! /j

Ashlyn would be a child of Athena. I think everyone pretty much agrees with this. Her being the strategist while also being good at fighting. She make’s the groups plans and is the leader of the group. People rely on her, and her ideas.

But I also feel like, Ashlyn gives off pretty roman vibes.

So I also feel like she’d be a daughter of Bellona. She’s very set on her plans. She’s mature (for her age, ofc she still has regular 14/15 year old feelings) and responsible. She’s responsible for her actions, good at fighting, mostly a rule follower, and a lot more.

So i’m very torn between Greek/Athena Ashlyn OR Roman/Bellona Ashlyn.

Aiden would be a child of Hermes.

Due to moving around a lot during his childhood links to Hermes being the God of travelers. As well as his speed and durability, a thing most travelers need. Also Aiden being mischievous also works with Hermes.

Ben would be a child of Apollo hands down.

The healing? Hello? He’s the groups designated healer. He healed Ashlyn, heals Aiden all the time, healed Tyler in the school, and also healed Logan. Or at least he tended to them wtv, SAME THING.

Also his love for music? Apollo being the god of music? it’s perfect guys i swear.

Logan would be a child of Demeter. Obviously because of his grandparents being florists, so maybe one of them is also a child of Demeter? Idk, anyways, he also has some ancestry to Urania, one of the nine muses, who is the patron to astronomy.

Now, the twins are tricky. They both have very distinct personalities and are completely different in the way they act. Tyler being standoffish, while Taylor being extremely friendly. And lots of other traits.

I feel like these two can fit under twos gods. So maybe either one of these.

I think they’re either Hephaestus kids, OR Aphrodite.

Hephaestus kids because Taylor is known for being in the robotics/mechanics club and isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty. Although she’s friendly to people and is an extrovert, I think she’d fit well be a Hephaestus kid. (similar to Leo maybe? except people like her… (sorry leo))

Now Tyler. I feel like he was the handyman of the house, which can be seen in that one panel of him fixing something. So I think he’d fit under that. And even if he didn’t tinker, I feel like he’d be the “mom” of the cabin and help other Hephaestus kids, like giving them tools and shit.

And then the twins being Aphrodite. I have no clue why but they kinda give off Aphrodite. They’re both popular and well liked, (even if Tyler doesn’t seem to like being popular…) they’re not pretty/handsome, and although Tyler has trouble regulating his emotions, I feel like he’d give pretty good emotional advice.

Thoughts on Atlas and Adrius

One of the things I realized while reading Light Bringer is that Atlas is a foil of The Jackal.

Both of them are Golds from families dating back to the Conquering, who oppose Darrow and have reputations for brutal and/or depraved methods – Atlas with his impaling of Republic soldiers on Mercury and ordering his Gorgons to rape Darrow in DA, The Jackal with his cannibalism.

Both are aligned with The Society but have their own faction of loyal followers – the Gorgons and the Boneriders – and even their own ostensible allies dislike and/or fear them.

Each of their respective groups also survived a harrowing experience together cut off from civilization – The Jackal and his Boneriders survived being buried underground together at The Institute, while Atlas and the Gorgons survived being marooned in the Kuiper belt in an endless guerilla war against the Ascomanni.

Both of them specialize in psychological warfare and manipulation – Adrius with his media ownership and things like MS mentioning him deliberately trying to make Darrow think Virginia betrayed him before he puts Darrow in The Box. Atlas with how he lured the Rim into the war and sent Xenophon to lead Sefi away from the Republic, etc.

Both of them also deliberately associate their factions with imagery designed to evoke fear and/or disgust – Atlas having his and the Gorgons’ armor covered in the faces of screaming children, Adrius and the Boneriders wearing the bones of their fallen enemies.

Both of them grow up separated from their siblings after the age of ten, and play a direct role in orchestrating the circumstances that lead to one of their older brothers’ deaths – Adrius paid Karnus to “sully” Claudius’s girlfriend, knowing that Claudius would challenge Karnus to a duel and get killed. Atlas used The Syndicate to sell the footage of Darrow destroying the docks to the Rim, which led to Dido’s coup and Romulus’ subsequent trial and death.

Both of them betray the family they were born into – Atlas with his attack on the Rim in LB, Adrius with the triumph massacre in GS – as well as the Gold they are allied with to carry out said initial betrayal – Atlas decides to betray Atalantia by putting Lysander in the role of his savior of the Rim plan, and Adrius attempts to usurp Octavia.

Both of them stab their ostensible allies in the back after they achieve victory in a battle around Mars – Adrius orchestrated the Triumph massacre at the end of GS after Darrow’s Iron Rain, Atlas launched his attack on the Rim after Lysander took control of Phobos.

Both of them also exterminate all but a limited number of a major Gold house of The Conquering and pin the blame on another party before the deception is eventually exposed and the aggrieved party changes sides to fight alongside Darrow against The Society: The Boneriders massacre all of House Bellona except Cassius and Julia and pin the blame on Darrow, with the discovery of the truth being used to flip Cassius over to Darrow’s side in MS. The Ascomanni invasion of the Rim was painted as the work of an independent warlord with no ties to either Darrow or the Society, but Diomedes and Darrow expose his involvement and flip not only the the Rim but also the Volk to the Republic’s side.

Both of them are killed in the third book of their respective part of the Saga without Darrow ever facing either of them in a direct one-on-one fight (at least not on-page in Atlas’ case. Who knows what happened during the war pre-IG).

And on top of all that, both of their factions demonstrate such a deep degree of loyalty that they’re willing to carry out their orders even after they die – Lilath and the Boneriders keep going with the plans to clone Adrius and place The Abomination as emperor of Luna even a decade after death. Meanwhile the constant references in LB to how Atlas “may be mortal but his work is not”, and that he trusts his operatives so much that they operate in Ilium on a perfect coms blackout, makes it extremely likely that Atlas has prepared contingency plans for the Gorgons to follow in case of his own demise just like The Jackal did.

But Adrius was only focused on himself and his own desires and glory, doing everything he did for either survival or personal gain. Neither he nor his Boneriders had any cause beyond doing whatever the hell they wanted, while Atlas and the Gorgons had a cause and did everything they did because they genuinely believe in the preservation and restoration of The Society as an institution.

Meanwhile the most prominent of their followers – both of whom use the same “horde of locusts” imagery to scramble their hologram appearances on comms – make deviations from Atlas and Adrius’s plans because of their own personal biases. Lilath edited parts of the information about The Jackal given to the clone because the reality of Adrius’s life and upbringing didn’t fit her personal image of him. Meanwhile Vagnar spares Thalia despite Atlas’s orders because of his own attachment to Volga and desire for his granddaughter to love him.

But unlike Lilath, whose decision fundamentally altars the Abomination’s psychological development, Vagnar’s deviations have no serious impact on the larger goal. If not for Lysander deciding to keep her as a potential future marriage option, all Vagnar would’ve done was buy Thalia a few extra days or life with no impact on the Gorgons’ larger plans whatsoever.

@lightning-boi-superman - Jason Grace - my little bro! He’s my brother on the mortal side, but his dad is Jupiter, Zeus’s Roman form. I thought he was dead for years (thanks, mum. Not.) he’s kinda goofy but I love him (he has a scar from trying to eat a stapler as a baby, I always knew he was gonna turn out wried.) one of the seven who had to save the world or some shit. Rip bro sounds like a lot of work. Also apparently he really did die, but then Leo, who he may or may not be dating, stormed down and physically dragged him out of the underworld. Don’t die on me again, asshole.

@the-daughter-of-bellona - Reyna Avila Ramirez-Arellano - RARA!!! My best friend, doughter of Bellona, and former preator of the 12th legion. I recently convinced her to join my cult (she joined the hunters of Artemis bc she was tired of being preator and of ppl telling her she should find a partner) and she put Hazel in charge alongside Frank.

@annie--bell - Annabeth Chase - My child. Me and this guy Luke (he’s dead now. long story. He was evil, then not evil, then killed himself to kill the evil bc the evil, the Lord of time himself, Kronos, was using his body) found her when she was seven. She had run away from home, just like both of us. She was in an ally, wearing flannel pajamas. I had my shield out, a copy of aunt Athena’s sheild, bc we’d just had a walk ass experience in a wack ass house (don’t ask) and it scared her so bad she tried to attack Luke w a hammer and she wouldn’t stop flailing around. She’s an incredible engineer and constantly spews facts no one cares about, except for that time she went missing, then the Hoover dam facts were comforting. We never did get a dam tshirt. She’s dating Percy, who is the reason I did not get a dam tshirt. Was part of the seven and slayed both literally and figurativly

@s0n-of-the-sea - Percy (Perseus) Jackson - absolute idiot. He’s a son of Poseiden. Our dads don’t get along and neither do we. To wills chagrin, we’ve tried to kill each other numerous times. He’s dating Annabeth, who could do much better. I’m half joking. He’s a talented fighter and had a saved the world a ton of times, including being part of the seven

Bella stared at her uncle's face for quite some time.

It really had been a while since she had come face to face with her uncle, their relationship had become quite rocky since the man, openly stated that he wanted to destroy an entire species, and THAT no, he wasn't joking.

God, Titan and any deity that could hear her, she really needed a drink, no wait! make that two….. can she make that three?

The only reason she had gone in the first place was to verify certain rumors surrounding her uncle along with a certain missing battle Nexus champion. Also, she wanted to see if she could shut up Pax's whining for now.

Upon arriving at the castle she had been surprisingly greeted by two cheerful pygmy gargoyles, one of which had a foam beard on her face, who upon realizing that this was their boss's niece, kindly guided Bella to the main hall where said Yokai was supposed to be.

She really didn't expect what she saw, like, at all.

Sitting in the only available seat in the room, next to the fireplace, was her uncle; who just staring wide-eyed and dilated at the crystal sphere in front of him.

While this in itself was strange, it did not compare to the following.

Resting on the Yokai's legs, gazing intently at the Crystal was a human, and not JUST any human, but it was the missing reigning champion of the Battle Nexus, Lou Jitsu, SLURPING A SMOOTHIE USING ONLY WHAT LOOKED LIKE A VIRGIN KILLER SWEATER.

Bella could have stared at the scene for hours, were it not for one of the gargoyles raising his voice.

"Hey boss, you've got visitors!"

In just a second both the human and the Yokai looked towards the entrance to look at the newcomer, and upon seeing his niece Draxum quickly stood up forgetting for a second the human on his legs.

"Ouch, what was that for!" Said the recently fallen Lou Jitsu on the floor.

Draxum looked at both the human and his niece with a nervous expression, still deciding to help the half-naked human up and immediately regain his composure.

"Bellona. Your visit is unexpected. What brings you here?"

Despite being extremely amused by this whole situation, Bella had not forgotten why she had come here in the first place.

"There are certain rumors spreading lately, about you and a certain missing human champion. I just came to check" she said secretly glancing sideways at Lou Jitsu.

His uncle crossed his arms and just gave him a bored look "I have nothing to do with it."

"If you say so."

It was that moment that Lou finally decided to say something.

"So you're Bella! Draxum told me about you, I was wondering when I'd get to see you!" Lou held out one hand towards Bella while with the other he tried to discreetly pull the sweater down to cover his legs a little more. "Sorry about the look, you caught us on laundry day."

Bella took the champ's hand with a smile. " No worries."

"Oh! I definitely hope you stay for dinner, I haven't interacted with anyone else outside of this house in ages! I'll go see if lar gargoyles have any of my clothes ready, I'll be right back!"

With that said, the human quickly exited through the entrance leaving the Yokai and his niece alone.

Back at the present. Bella looked at her uncle un the eyes. "So.... How long have you two been dating?"

Draxum frowned. "we're not dating."

"BULLSHIT!”

description: i like to think of myself as nice and so does my girlfriend, we have been together for a year now

i am kind and love working with children. don't really talk much but oh well.

backstory: i met my girlfriend three years ago in an alleyway, we didn't quite click at first but then we were stuck together, cornered by a manticore. so we fled to new york, where we found out that she was a roman demigoddess and not greek, which kind of sucked because iykyk.

so anyway, chiron told us to separate which we could barely even imagine, and we ended up across the world from each other, me in camp half-blood and her in camp jupiter (as a daughter of bellona).

the war (BoO) brought us together again, even though we were forced to fight against each other. it was very heartbreaking to see her hurt because of me.

in the aftermath, we both decided we would stay in contact (via iris-messaging) through the year until i could fly to new rome, where i am now, writing this from our dorm.
