Bathtub Day
In a world in which demands on your time are high it is reassuring to know there is one day in the year when you can reclaim the right to relax at your leisure. Bathtub Day is more than just an excuse to while away the time as you immerse yourself in the warm waters of your bathroom; it is a day to remember and rejoice in the introduction of the bathtub in England in 1828.
Learn about Bathtub Day
I noticed every time I spent a lot of time in the bathtub, I would just get fantastic realizations about myself, and they were so valuable and liberating. - Leonard Orr
Bathtub Day encourages people to immerse themselves inside of their bathtub and truly relax. After all, is there any better way to unwind?
Did you know that there are actually a lot of benefits that are associated with taking a bath as well? Taking a bath can help to sooth your joints and muscles. Moving and stretching in water has been shown to have a low impact on the bones, muscles, and joints, yet being extremely successful in providing you with a good workout through resistance.
There are other benefits as well to consider. For example, a warm bath will help the blood in your body to flow with greater ease, which then enables you to breathe slower and deeper, especially when you take in the steam. Taking a spa or hot bath can kill bacteria and enhance immunity, as well as relieving the symptoms of flu and cold. Bathing can also help your nervous system and your brain health as well.
Did you know that taking a bath can also help you in terms of breathing easier? If you are immersed in the water, with your head out of course, this can have a positive impact on your oxygen intake and your lung capacity. There are two factors that aid this. This is the pressure the water puts on your lungs and chest, as well as the temperature of the water.
Your heart beats faster when the water is warmer. You can clear out your chest and sinuses with the steam that is created and your oxygen intake is improved too. As you can see, taking a bath offers a lot more than a bit of relaxation!
Bathing has also been proven to assist with heart health. Your core temperature is also going to be optimal through taking a bath and you can balance your hormones too. By being exposed to fluid through bathing and steaming, you are going to ensure that all of your body gets the hydration it needs. As the human body is mainly made of water, this is why you need to make sure that you drink a lot of it. Nevertheless, soaking in water is also highly beneficial. This can be enhanced by adding certain salts or oils to your bath.
History of Bathtub Day
Despite the fact that plumbing systems for bathing date as far back as 3300 BCE, it was not until approximately 1700 BCE that the first bathtub of any sort was found. This was in Crete. In terms of modern bathtubs, the first was invented in England in 1828.
Bathtubs can either be free standing, sunken, or built-in. A lot of them are made through bonding porcelain enamel on cast iron. This is a process that began in the 1880s. In the late 19th century, the clawfoot bathtub was very popular. This has originated in the mid-18th century in Holland. However, once the built-in version took over during the second half of the 20th century, it started to lose popularity.
How to celebrate Bathtub Day
How to celebrate this momentous occasion is an individual’s choice but options include turning your bathroom into a mini-spa, complete with scented candles and aromatherapy oils; inviting a partner or friend to share in the bathtub experience; watching a favourite film or television show while bathing; or simply locking the door, turning off the phone and enjoying a rare moment of solitude and peace, with a glass of wine by your side.
The best way to celebrate Bathtub Day is to make sure that you have the most relaxing bath ever! There are so many things that you can do to make your bathtub as relaxing as possible. This includes filling your bath with epsom salts, essential oils, or bubbles. You can also listen to music, turn the lights down, light some candles, and enjoy a glass of wine. Why not treat yourself to a bath tray so you’ve got somewhere to put your book and wine glass while you are chilling in the bath?
There are a lot of different things that you can do in order to make sure that you enjoy the perfect bath. The first step is to create the right ambience. You can also ensure that your bath is more beneficial for your skin and your body by adding a cup of bath salts. There are a lot of different bath salts on the Internet, so have fun looking at all of the different options that are available. You will also want to make sure that the bath smells delightful as well, and essential oils can help with this.
To ensure that your bath is as beneficial as possible, think about the different things that you can do to improve your skin and relax while you are taking a bath. For example, a lot of people like to apply a face mask while they are bathing, as this helps them to unwind while also improving the condition of their skin. It is up to you. As we say, there are so many different products available today, so you are bound to find something that appeals to you.
You could even use Bathtub Day as the perfect excuse to treat yourself to a new bath. There are a lot of great baths on the market today. Some of the baths out there have different jet systems so that you can relax and soothe your muscles. Baths can also become a statement piece in your bathroom, with a lot of different styles and designs for you to select from. Freestanding baths, in particular, are at the height of interior fashion at the moment.
You can also make sure that your loved ones are making the most of Bathtub Day by purchasing them something that is going to make them enjoy their day more. For example, you could buy some bath salts or essential oils for someone you love and tell them that they deserve a bit of pampering on Bathtub Day. After all, it is nice to make other people feel special and to encourage them to relax and wind down too.

International Bath Day
Take some time to truly relax and unwind from the stress of daily life. Try some bath bubbles, a bath bomb, or some essential oils to up the experience.
If you think of the ultimate in relaxing experiences that come pretty much free of charge, then one of the first things that come to mind is a long, hot soak in the bath. Well, if you needed a reason to draw up the most amazing and luxurious bath, then International Bath Day is quite possibly it.
While it may sound like utter madness, it is, in fact, an incredibly popular day and an excuse for every man, woman, and child to enjoy the most relaxing and indulgent of soaks.
We should probably also start by saying that International Bath Day isn’t the only day of the year you should choose to have a bath, let’s face it if this were the case public transport would be way more disturbing on summer days.
In fact, days like this are probably not about bathing at all; International Bath Day is a way of celebrating our humanity, it’s about recognizing who we are and how far we have truly come. While for some, a bath is just a way to clean some difficult to reach areas; for others, it’s an escape.
There are people out there that work 14 hour days and just need to unwind away from the world, and at the opposite end of the spectrum, there are people who find inspiration while enjoying the quiet and occasional fizz of bubbles.
In truth, days like International Bath Day are to you what you make of them; you should look to do something that makes you feel happiest to be alive, something that is just for you and nobody else.
History of International Bath Day
Legend has it that on June 14th, Greek mathematician, scientist, and scholar, Archimedes, discovered while taking a bath that an object’s volume could be accurately measured by being submerged in water! Unable to contain his excitement over this discovery, Archimedes leaped out of the bathtub and yelled, “Eureka, Eureka!” as he ran through the streets of Syracuse, Greece. Since the exact date of Archimedes’ birth was unknown, the day chosen to commemorate is the day that is believed he kept out of the bathtub….June 14th.
How was this date determined? The ancient Greek legend says that it was exactly one week before the beginning of summer…the calendar in those days was astronomical, and seasons were determined due to the 23.5-degree tilt of the Earth’s rotational axis in relation to its orbit around the sun. Summer began (then and today) on June 21st, so a week before is June 14th, and this was the date set.
We would like to recognize this day because we believe that bath time is the IDEAL time for learning and discovery for children. Bath toys can teach children the basic properties of physics such as empty/full, float/sink, heavy/light, and cause and effect all while having FUN in the tub!
As we know, the world has evolved constantly, and this is also just as true for the way we bathe. While this may sound insane, it really isn’t. When it comes to bathing, if we look back only 100 years, the whole concept of bathing in some countries was not a relaxing one at all; in fact, it was downright uncomfortable.
In the 19th century England, a bath in many cases was a large cold metal container placed in front of a fireplace, and in some countries, this is still the case believe it or not.
Now when we look at bath time, it’s something to look forward to, drawing a nice bubble bath doesn’t end with the simple things. There are now bathtubs with jets for a hot tub like experience, and the 21st century has really seen a rise in the sales of essential oils for those looking for a little something extra from their bath.
Taking all of this into account, it seems that over the next 20 years, things are going to advance even more, and with the creation of temperature regulation devices for bathtubs, you will never be pained with a cold bath ever again.
So, no matter what your ideal bath maybe, you should remember that the evolution of the bathtub has come a long way, so you should embrace the power of the bath and really treat yourself this International Bath Day.
How to celebrate International Bath Day
Ok, so when it comes to celebrating International Bath Day, we are pretty sure that you get the gist of things, but, if you don’t, then some ideas will follow for somebody of every age.
If you are a fan of retro, why not find the most boring bath bomb you can get your hands on, dash in some bubbles and get that bath to the perfect temperature.
Once at a temperature that won’t cook a lobster, throw on some Barry Manilow and let your mind take you to your own personal Nirvana.
Of course, if this isn’t for you, you could just run the perfect bath for you, place in some earplugs, lock the bathroom door and have some totally undisturbed time that’s just for you.
When it comes to International Bath Day, it matters not whether you are a man or woman, whether you work or don’t work, this is the one day of the year where you should take an hour out of your schedule and escape from the world.
Sometimes we all need to spend some time alone so we can become one with the universe once more. If this isn’t the case, perhaps you’re just a single parent who would like to use the bathroom in peace just once. Whoever you are, International Bath Day is more than a celebration; it’s also an excuse.
