@tangerinebonfire Rather than spam @headspace-hotel 's delightful pawpaw post further, I'm making my own primate post on my favorite target of foraging.

I grew up in rural Pennsylvania nibbling wild raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, and tiny blueberries on summer trips to Ontario, chewing sassafras and sipping on honeysuckle, but wineberries were queen. I probably haven't tasted wineberries in 30 years, as I moved away from the east coast in 1996. They're on my shortlist of things I miss after loved ones, lightning bugs, thunderstorms, and beech trees.

Lookit these beauties.

Unlike raspberries, they're meltingly soft. No crunchies. If you pick them unripe, they're tart, but still fairly tasty,

Unripe ones are amber-orange, ripening to lush crimson, which is the perfect blend of honey-sweet and tart/citrus, deepening to pomegranate seed red.

The NYT's Urban Forager blog describes wineberries as a "citrusy wild fruit which tastes like a cross between a raspberry and a California orange" (by which I can only assume they mean something like the 1930s Valencia orange tree in the back yard of my friends in Westminster, CA; store-bought oranges are a different animal). The Guardian's gardening columnist Alys Fowler says...

She also irresponsibly suggests planting some right after mentioning finding a forest overrun with them between Lakes Como and Maggiore, and noting her mom's own patch tended to get around. If you look them up in the US, you find a slew of articles lamenting wineberries as invasives, often while admitting ruefully that they're delicious.

Apparently they were/are planted in Japan, Korea and China as ornamentals, not just for the fruit, since the canes turn as red as the berries. Their invasiveness is the only thing keeping me from committing a deadly sin and buying seeds or plants online from unscrupulous suppliers. But I live in California now, and I mustn't.

Love the delivery of "Doctor, you don't know what it is to doubt everything, even yourself. -No, you don't!... you couldn't... with eyebrows like yours!" Jonathan sounds almost lost in his own head/memories at first, and then like he's cutting van Helsing off forcefully, too forcefully. He realizes how intense he's being, tries to save it by turning things into a lighthearted joke

ohh, van Helsing has such a fun laugh when he isn't King Laughing.

I never realized that van Helsing didn't expect Lucy to be risen yet! This is the first he knows of her hunting down kids!

"Truly there is no such thing as finality." god Jack sounds so exhausted. He's had more sleep in the past few days than in ages but he sounds tired and miserable still. And once again he's isolating himself in work, not reaching out to friends for comfort.

"I had a letter from Arthur," the wistful almost laugh, and god everything that comes after about Art and Quincey. It is so apparent that he wants to be there with them, that he wishes he could be receiving comfort too, but he doesn't feel like he is the one who deserves it.

"he will only let out enough at a time to whet curiosity." he sounds tired here. in an annoyed way, but mostly just tired. he doesn't seem to have the energy to feel curious anymore, because what's the point? Lucy is already gone.

van Helsing STILL refusing to speak first, buddy he is outright asking you to just tell him. start with the vampires!

every single "____? no?" is so funny. he says it almost the same way every time, trying to find his baseline for Jack's skepticism

"For, had she live one more day, we could have save her." oooof

"Do you mean to tell me that Lucy was bitten by such a bat; and that such a thing is here in London in the nineteenth century?" van Helsing, this was your opportunity! if only he knew that Jack has noticed Bat Weirdness already, it would have been a great opening

"Here I interrupted him. I was getting bewildered;" he sounds it, oh my goodness. Also still just upset and distressed by all this

""In God's name, Professor Van Helsing, what! do! you! meannnn?"" bwhaahahahaa omg Jack Has Had Enough

"Oh, my friend, why, think you, did I go so far round, why take so long to tell you so simple a thing? Was it because I hate you and have hated you all my life? Was it because I wished to give you pain? Was it that I wanted, now so late, revenge for that time when you saved my life, and from a fearful death? Ah no!" VERY dramatic wording, some more Miette energy here

but seriously, Jack is so loyal, and willing to go so far for the people he loves

Dr Vincent sounding American is funny because that means so far the only people in London to namedrop vampires are all American. I guess that fits with vampire bats being from South America

"he said he wanted to play with the 'bloofer lady." so at least we can assume Lucy has that vampire charm going on pretty well. She isn't hunting via scare tactics or stealth. She's playing with them, or at least they think she is. thoughts about vampire hunting strategies...

"and standing back, politely, but quite unconsciously, motioned me to precede him. There was a delicious irony in the offer, in the courtliness of giving preference on such a ghastly occasion." this is funny for other reasons too if you think about how nervous van Helsing probably is too. also how he is trying to make sure Jack can't just leave

Jack is great at setting a spooky/sad scene.

the bag rustling noises! the coffinlid creak!

Jack's whisper... and his protectiveness over Lucy...

van Helsing's bone saw gets a lot of use for non-bone purposes

"all the dogged argumentativeness" ohohoho he's feeling so stubborn and almost petulant sounding. I love the sarcasm in van Helsing's "That is good logic."

the strong threat of breakdown of trust in van Helsing offering the key, so Jack will know he isn't messing with the coffin/corpse. And Jack just stubbornly refusing because that wouldn't be enough to stop van Helsing anyways

and yet despite his anger, his frustration and exhaustion and disbelief, he still doesn't leave. he willingly stands vigil.

the music as Lucy comes through. oh, I love it

"Are you satisfied now?" van Helsing has an edge of guilt and horror, the tired almost sigh on the last word. And yet this entire situation has NOT been predisposing Jack to buy in so he just gets even snippier and more sarcastic ("yes, it is a child!")

Jack and van Helsing sneaking up and dropping a little kid in the path of a policeman is such an absurd image. but it's really sad at the same time. I feel awful for these poor kids.

Summary: Newt has to return to England to protect his case of magical creatures. He’s sad to leave his friends, but life may be smiling on him when he meets a girl who has not yet found her soulmate.

Newt rubbed his eyes and fumbled with his keys. After a few tries, he managed to turn them the right away and opened the door. He set his case on the table and slumped into a chair.

“Hi, honey. Rough day, huh?” Queenie asked, though she already knew. She squinted her eyes. “Oh, wow, that’s really tough, Newt.” Newt looked up at her wearily with a pout on his face.

“What happened to Newt?” Jacob opened the oven, pulling out an apple pie. Tina sat across from him with concern lying on her face.

“I-I got into some trouble with the ministry. They, uh... They want me to get rid of some of the beasts...” Newt explained as he placed a hand over his face.

“Are you sure you can’t just keep ‘em in that case?” Jacob asked putting powdered sugar on the pie. He began to cut the pie into smaller pieces.

“I don-I don’t know, Jacob. They can’t live here in America, but I-I can’t just-just leave them anywhere. They need to be taken care of,” Newt fretted his worries to Jacob and Queenie. They both frowned.

Jacob put a piece of pie in front of Queenie and placed a hand on her mark. Her soulmate mark that she shared with him. They both had a little apple on the back of their right hands.

“Yeah, if he keeps them here, he’ll be imprisoned and his creatures will probably be put to death,” Tina added sadly. “Newt, you can’t keep them here. The ministry will find them. I’m sorry...”

“Ca-Can you bring them to England?” Jacob suggested hesitantly. He liked having Newt around. They were good friends, but the beasts were prohibited in America.

“Yes, I suppose. The English Ministry is much more lenient with magical creatures,” Newt answered slowly. He liked America. It was where his friends were, but it seemed like he’d probably have to return home.

“Oh, Newt,” Queenie hugged Newt and rubbed his back. “I’m so sorry.”

“I guess I have to go back.”

Newt checked the last of his things before walking off the boat. Following him were Tina, Queenie, and Jacob. They had offered to come with him to London for a bit to help him settle in. They placed their luggage in their hotel room and ventured out to explore London.

“So, any good restaurants here?” Jacob asked, excitement blooming across his face.

“Uh, I have to warn you. The food here is a bit bland,” Newt laughed. “Part of the reason I like America so much.” He paused in thought. “I do know this one café though. They have good pastries and tea.”

The group made their way to the café Newt recommended. They arrived at a tiny café in a small corner of London. They walked inside and took their seats.

“I can go up and order,” Queenie offered. “What do you guys...”

“Queenie? You alright darling?” Jacob asked. He directed his gaze to whatever she was looking at. He smiled at what he saw.

“Hey, Tina. It’s Y/N!” Queenie beamed. “I haven’t seen her in forever!”

“Oh, hey, Y/N!” Tina called over, catching your attention. You turned in their direction and mimicked their smiles. You rushed over to them.

“Oh my goodness! Tina! Queenie, Jacob!” You gave them a big hug. “Oh, I’ve missed you all so much.”

You let go of them and cocked your head to look behind them. There, you saw a man sitting at their table. He’s quite handsome, you thought. You liked his messy hair and his bright eyes.

“Um, hi. I’m Y/N,” you moved your hand to his and gave it a weak shake.

“Newt. Uh, Newt Scamander. How do you know everybody?” Newt asked curiously.

“We met her in America a little while ago while you were trying to find a Zouwu,” Jacob answered for you. You giggled.

“I was there for research. I was writing a book about the culture of wizards in different countries,” you clarified.

“Oh, you’re Y/N L/N! I’ve read your book, Wizards Around the World” Newt exclaimed. “I loved that book!”

“You read my book?” you gasped in an animated manner, your eyes practically lighting up. “Wow, thank you.”

“Newt’s an author as well. We’ve told you about him. He’s the one that wrote Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” Tina reminded you.

“Oh my God. You’re that Newt Scamander. I mean, I know your name isn’t all that common, but I never thought I’d actually meet you! I love that book. I own a copy. How did you manage to find an Occamy?” you marvelled at his work.

Queenie and Tina eyed each other while you and Newt admired each other’s books and other interests. They both knew that neither of you had found your soulmate yet. However, you were both really private about your marks and they weren’t in an obvious place.

After everyone finished eating, you invited to show them around the city with Newt. You and Newt brought them everywhere: the Tower of London, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, and a few local places you always loved to go to. Before you knew it, it was dark. You had ended up at an old bar that played nothing but jazz.

“Hey, Y/N we’re pretty close to our hotel. And it’s pretty late. You can stay over,” Queenie told you.

“Oh no, I couldn’t. It’s okay. I’ll find a cab,” you told her.

“Don’t be silly Y/N/N. It’s fine. There’s a spare bed in Newt’s room. You’re fine with it, right Newt?” Jacob suggested.

“O-Oh yeah. It’s perfectly fine,” Newt stuttered. He was already flustered at the thought of a beautiful girl spending the night in his room.

“Newt, is that alright?” you asked, biting your lip. Newt nodded and looked away. He decided that he loved it when you did that.

“Here we are,” Tina announced as you placed your things on Newt’s bed. Before joining everyone else in the other room, you took a shower in Newt’s room.

After Newt walked into Tina, Queenie, and Jacob’s room, they slammed the door shut. “You like Y/N! You fancy her,” Queenie accused with a large smile, pointing a finger at Newt.

“I-I don’t know wh-what you’re t-talking about,” Newt stuttered avoiding eye contact with her. He’d cave at her intimidating stare.

“You so do, Mr Scamander,” Tina laughed. “You’ve been staring at her all day.”

Newt sighed. “Ok, fine. I-I like her. But we’re not even soulmates so it doesn’t matter.”

“How do you know that? Have you seen her mark?” Jacob asked him.

“Well, no...”

“Then you could be!” Queenie exclaimed. You walked into the room, dragging a towel through your wet hair.

“Don’t say a word, please,” Newt whispered to them before turning to you.

“Hey, Y/N, wanna see a magic trick?” Jacob asked you. “I mean, not like magic magic. Like fake magic.”

“Ok, sure,” you laughed.

“You see this quarter?” Jacob asked. He flicked his wrist and it was gone. “Now you don’t.”

“How did you do that?” you questioned him, curious. “Muggles are so creative.”

“That’s a secret.”

“But where is it?”

Jacob placed his hand behind your ear and tucked your hair out of the way to magically grab the quarter from behind it. He gasped. He saw your mark. It was behind your left ear.

“Jacob?”

“Oh right,” He cleared his throat. “It’s behind your ear!”

“Wow!” you clapped your hands and giggled. Jacob stood abruptly and walked over to Tina and Queenie, leaving you to talk to Newt.

“Hi Newt,” you said timidly. Usually, you were better with people, but something about him just made you nervous. But that was normal, right? I mean, it’s not like he was your soulmate or anything, you thought. Right?

“Hi Y/N.” He smiled at you awkwardly. It made your heart flutter.

“So, what’s your favourite creature?”

“I saw Y/N’s mark,” Jacob whispered.

“You did? Where? What was it?” Tina asked enthusiastically. She and Queenie had a bet.

“Behind her ear,” Jacob replied. Tina groaned. “I owe you 5 galleons,” she frowned.

“Legilimens always know, honey,” Queenie laughed.

“What was it?” Tina repeated.

“A wildflower I think,” Jacob said.

“Wait, isn’t that Newt’s favourite flower?” Tina mentioned.

“Yeah, it is. And by the way, their thoughts are really cute. They are so smitten,” Queenie bubbled.

“Now we just gotta see Newt’s mark.”

As you and Newt discussed the culture of wizards in France, Tina, Jacob, and Queenie formulated a plot to see Newt’s mark.

“Ok ok. Listen to this,” Jacob began. “I distract him and you peek behind his left ear.”

“No, he’ll definitely be suspicious of that,” Tina said. “Maybe we can just wait for them to fall asleep?”

12x07 Rock Never Dies Map

The recording studio you see in this episode is a real recording studio called Armoury Studios. It's a private business, but they did film a scene with Cas and Tommy on the sidewalk outside. It's actually the same building exterior seen at the end of 13x08. The rest of the known locations are all in a cluster in New Westminster. The Metro Hall where they filmed the Ladyheart concert is the same private events venue where they filmed the hotel dining room scenes in Hammer of the Gods in S5. Unlike that episode, they also filmed outside for this episode, out front, in back and in front of the neighboring Ava Fitness. A couple of blocks over, the hospital entrance was filmed in the Anvil Centre. The exact spot now appears to be the entrance to a restaurant and I haven't had a chance to go in the building so I'm not sure how much it may or may not still look the same. Across the street, El Santo Mexican restaurant was used for the spot where the boys meet Vince's publicist.

Summer Sawdust Art & Craft Festival(6/29-9/2)(OC)

講到橙縣的Laguna Beach就不可不提到這個在藝術界裡頂頂有名的Sawdust Art & Craft Festival 夏季鋸屑藝術節！這個藝術慶典從1966年開始舉辦、至今超過半個世紀，已成為南加藝術愛好者們、收藏家、新銳藝術家的年度盛事，每到暑假都會有長達兩個月的藝術活動、讓超過 200 位學有專功的藝術家們齊聚一堂，藝術品形式從繪畫、首飾製作、陶瓷、服裝皮件、木雕金雕石雕到攝影等，都可以在鋸屑藝術節挖到寶。而且這個藝術節在每周五和周六的早上時段，有開設各式各樣的藝術課程喔～！趕緊來Laguna Beach 這小鎮感受一下夏日海濱的這個藝術盛會，讓自己也藝術一夏吧！

Little Saigon Night Market(6/15-9/2)(OC)

橙縣的 Westminster 被稱為「小西貢」，而這個小西貢每年夏天最熱鬧的活動就是在Asian Garden Mall的停車場舉辦的小西貢夜市！這個夜市以東南亞特色為主，在這裡可以嚐到許多特色美味，像是海螺、越南春卷、越南蛋餅、西米露等。除了東南亞美食外，也有東南亞音樂表演、越南傳統服飾、小童玩傳統遊戲等。小西貢週末夜市會持續舉辦至暑假結束(9/2)。

Griffith Park Shakespeare Festival (6/30-9/2)(LA)

Griffith Park Free Shakespeare Festival 是洛杉磯大型的免費莎士比亞歌劇表演節，這是由Independent Shakespeare Co. 這個表演團體所主辦，在2003年的第一場表演只有14人和1隻狗觀賞，但到了2009年在Barnsdall Park舉辦時已經有12000名觀眾；2010年移至Griffith Park、而至2016年觀眾超過47000人! 目前這個Shakespeare Festival已經不只是讓更多人認識莎士比亞經典作品，更是在地藝術工作者的重要交流場合，對舞台表演有興趣的朋友還可以參與戲劇前的pre-show workshops，而且完全免費！今年夏季將會上演A Midsummer Night’s Dream 與 Titus Andronicus 這兩部莎士比亞的經典歌劇作品，活動從六月份持續到九月份，歌劇愛好者請帶上薄毯、野餐墊或海灘椅，到Griffith Park享受這個難得的表演盛會喔～！

Odd Nights at the Autry (Apr- Oct)(LA)

Odd Nights at the Autry 是一個 L.A. 的在地夜市，從1991年以來為了支持在地藝術家和dreamers所發起的藝術兼美食市集，從4月至10月於每個月的第三個星期五舉辦，活動當日會有超過 70 個攤位出售不同種類的商品，如手工飾品、家飾、二手物拍賣等，現場也會有20餘輛美食餐車、也會有kids fun zone如跳跳屋和攀岩牆等，讓全家可以悠閒的吃吃喝喝逛街壓馬路～！

King Tut in LA (3/24-Jan 2019)(LA)

埃及最有名的法老圖坦卡門（King Tut）來到南加州囉～！號稱在埃及境外最大的古墓文物展「圖坦卡門：黃金法老珍寶」（King Tut: Treasures of the Golden Pharaoh)，在洛杉磯市中心的加州科學中心展出。此次展出超過150件工藝品，遠高於過去一般展覽50件的限制。主辦單位表示，展覽將展出Boy King所使用和擁有的東西，像是黃金首飾、雕刻，雕塑和古物。此次展出的文物大約40％是第一也是最後一次離開埃及喔！展出完畢將返回到埃及，未來在正在建設的大埃及博物館（Grand Egyptian Museum）做永久展示。所以說機會難得，趕快去買票喔～
