Fun little detail that I hadn't noticed before is that dead centre on the shelf of books Crozier stares at as he broods in Episode One is a volume concerning Thomas Coram.
Coram (c. 1668 - 1751) was an English sea captain and philanthropist who created the Foundling Hospital in London where our very own poor beloved David Young was raised!
#The Terror#The Terror AMC#S01E01#Go for Broke#The Big Terror Rewatch#I'd be lying if I said that I realised this connection just off the top of my head#I did know about Coram and the Foundling Hospital beforehand#But in truth I was interested to know more about all the names shown and my memory was only jogged after I started googling stuff#Still very interesting I think!#It doesn't appear to me that his sea career was as illustrious as some of the others so his inclusion in their ranks feels very deliberate

Saint Magnolia Hospital
Been a while but wanted to pop in and show you all what I've been up to. I started this Hospital in Saint Greer, but now it moves around to all my towns with me. Been inspired to finish decorating as I eagerly await the next version of @olomaya's Private Clinic mod. Coming soon is Optometry, which I've included a space for on floor one, more maternity care so that's the second floor, and currently we have the psychiatry module, so I have a counseling room and office on floor three, meeting space, and of course all the techy machinery. Along with a beautiful but totally not functional kids ward. Photos below. Will also be on my simblr.cc for more details :)

You can't tell me Vlad didn't take the chance in an interview to passively aggressively "thank" his "friends" for making him the man he became.
Just losing his composure briefly to say how their lack of lab safety almost killed him and led to a change in plans/him becoming the richest man alive.
#danny phantom#bro would take any chance he would get to dunk on jack#not enough to reveal his secret but enough to let people know jack is a stupid and reckless man who should not be trusted#thanks for almost killing me jack I had plenty of time in the hospital to think about my future and plan my career path

This is probably a weird question, but I don't really know anyone who works in the medical field to ask directly. I've been considering a career change to respiratory therapy, but I knew there were several different areas in the healthcare field so I took a class at my local CC that involved "discovering different healthcare careers" and had us talk to and shadow many different occupations. I had 2 different professionals through this class tell me studying Respiratory Therapy wouldn't be worth it because they were being phased out because others within healthcare already know how to do the job they do. Do you know if this is true or not? I was really excited about pursuing this, but I don't want to spend time and money pursuing a degree if it is being "phased out." I haven't been able to find anything about this through just looking it up online, if anything my research indicates Respiratory Therapists are needed and in demand right now, so I'm a little confused.
Hi! Well I think that's a great question, but I am as "in the dark" as you are about this, since I don't work in a hospital setting with respiratory therapists.
I'm going to assume you're in the United States? You can send me another anon ask if not, so I can clarify the country in question for anyone who might have info on the topic.
Ok, let's punt this question out to the readers -- anybody have insights on the current and future demand for respiratory therapists in US healthcare?

Everybody talking about Walton Goggins this and that but nothing about how Criminal Minds tied him to a bed to exorcize him? Why not?
Google images gave me nothing so I had to take matters into my own hands and go get the episode myself.
We just don't tie men to the bed and exorcise them like we used to
#meduseld#once again the most important part of any actor's career is guest spots on long running cop and hospital dramas#its season 4 episode 17 you're all welcome

I'm working out my notice period at Spoons and really having it reinforced why I'm leaving. although it's, generally, a really pretty good company to work for and especially for the hospitality industry, my pub has got tooooooo fucking comfortable with relentlessly running me into the ground while other people are given a free pass. 14 fucking hour shift today because one of my colleagues had a meltdown that they were, essentially, being asked to actually do work this morning.
#i mean the other reason i am leaving is because i got a much better offer to do some interesting stuff#(still in hospitality i'm not doing anything drastic like imagining careers in media exist)#but for reeeeeeeal

I think maybe I looked so shit at the end of my four hour clinic session today Saturday morning that even my last patient was like yeah good work you've done good sorry for taking so much time
Maybe the 4 hour no toilet no water patient every six minutes thing finally showed
#second last patient wasn't so great#she demanded we send her to hospital to do a “full body checkup scan”#when it was explained that we don't currently possess star trek tricorders she threw a fit#she couldn't even specify a symptom she just wanted a sci-fi full-body non invasive screen for any possible conditions#it's the first time I've ended a clinic session 20 minutes late in my whole career#personal#medicine#medical happenings#doctor#my post#I had to tell off a patient today for tagging on four episodic complaints to their usual follow up for three conditions#read: I saw them for seven complaints in ten minutes

WIP Game Snippet (and Last Line Challenge)
So I'm starting at the bottom of my WIP Game snips this time--below you'll find my 25 sentences for Operation Groundhog AU (plus a little extra).
This is also gonna serve as my response to @frostbitebakery's tag for the Last Line Challenge!
Rules: in a new post, show the last line you wrote (or drew) and tag as many people as there are words (or as many as you feel like).
Open tags for that one. I've tagged too many people recently LOL
-
It’s not the Captain that finds them later, sitting in a little break room they’re definitely not supposed to be in and waiting for news. It’s one of the Admiral’s flag aides.
LCDR Sam Silenski, he introduces himself. Early forties, maybe, boxier build of a man who spends a lot of time behind a desk and makes up for it in a gym, a dark sweep of brown hair mixed with gray. One of the more senior members of Admiral Kazansky’s staff. His handshake’s firm when he shakes Ice’s and then Mav’s hands, gives them both a smile. “The Captain asked me to grab you two on the way out and get you back to base,” he says. “There’s not going to be much news tonight.”
“But it’s going okay?” Mav interjects, when Ice can’t manage to find the words to ask.
Silenski shrugs. “I have permission to inform you both that they avoided a respirator,” he offers. “Which is good, because the Admiral--” his eyes catch on Ice, and he clearly amends what he was going to say. “The Admiral doesn’t like being out of commission that long. He’s had to call in his deputy exactly once since assuming command, and… it was… not an enjoyable experience for anyone.”
Mav snickers, elbows Ice in the ribs. Ice finds a ghost of a smile to give him.
Silenski walks them out to his car--a beat up jeep, shit all over the back seat like most cars Ice has seen. The guy looks mildly embarrassed anyway when he realizes, glancing at Ice like he’s expecting Ice to have especially stringent back seat-related standards. Ice opts not to mention that he thinks he left a gym bag with dirty clothes in his own car’s back seat before he deployed. He thinks he’s getting a sense of the mystique his older self’s been cultivating with his staff, and he doesn’t want to ruin it by being too human.
It’s a weird thing to be thinking about, but it’s better than--
Well. It’s just better.
Ice ends up taking the front seat, by virtue of having longer legs. It’s a relatively quiet trip back to the assigned housing they’d shoved Ice and Mav into at the start of last week. Mav and Silenski make small talk--baseball, and San Diego weather, and a little of what being a flag aide is like.
“I have a good job,” Silenski says, shrugging. “Good pay, interesting work. A boss who maybe could stand to take a vacation occasionally.”
“I don’t think Ice’s had that word defined for him,” Mav jokes, grinning.
“What’s a vacation?” Ice asks dutifully, and Silenski snorts.
“Alright, alright, I’ll tell them to update the betting pool,” Silenski says, and pulls up to the shitty little bungalow Ice and Mav are sharing. “Ah, Kazansky.”
Ice pauses, door open and halfway out of the car.
Silenski looks at him for a minute, mouth twisted up, and then nods. “It really is a pleasure to meet you. Sorry about the weird circumstances.”
Ice nods. “You too,” he says. “Thanks for the ride.” He gets out and closes the door before the conversation can turn to… anything else.
#icemav#operation groundhog au#wip game#wip poll#last line challenge#adi is a writer#wip snippet#25 sentences complete!#LCDR Silenski went on a whole journey this morning to end back up as a LCDR#he did have to undergo a career change though!#my man is making moves LOL#hospital cw#medical respirator cw

saw a post about projecting your ethnicity onto a character and started missing vespa ilkay. so so bad
#pov u grow up in a 3rd world country(/planet) where healthcare workers are exported by the thousands like cheap produce to richer countries#it's your ticket out of poverty as long as you can deal with the loneliness the separation from everyone you know the discrimination etc#ive never talked about my hc that vespas mother was one of them sending money every month visiting every couple of years until it just stop#like why return to the swamps when youre doing fine working on a richer planet w much better living conditions#cost of living rises every year. sending home a % of your salary used to be enough to support your husband and daughter and then it isnt#you know how it goes#vespa is also dead set on this path until ranga realizes that hemorrhaging healthcare workers leaves them with little to none of their own#students on scholarships or in community/state universities are bound by return service agreements and are forbidden to leave the country#until theyve rendered a few years of work on ranga to pay back their tuition + as a really shitty solution to the brain drain problem#this is real in my country btw but my professors say a lot of ppl do break their rsa's and fucked off to work in other countries LOL#our state unis can barely afford decent facilities they do nottt have the budget to chase down their own alumni in other countries!#but the mental image is a bit funny#vespa ilkays first crime: tinakasan ang rsa#i do also think it lines up with her having a network of med friends everywhere in the galaxy (heart of it all) you kind of go into pre/med#expecting most of your classmates to leave to work in other countries eventually. mine are aiming for the usa / uae / europe / japan etc#anyway whether vespa breaks her rsa or not she leaves ranga asap decides to switch careers and the rest is history#i also deeply love the fact that she's superstitious i'm very sad it wasn't highlighted more (i've only heard s1-3)#as someone who did grow up in a rural area and went to more albularyos/folk healers than doctors in my childhood. (they never failed me)#lots of folk illnesses (ex. balis; pasma) local medical superstitions (dont eat noodles in hospital; youll have a really toxic shift) etcc#theres also a lot of potential in tying her past as a rangian + med student + assassin to me idk how to word this properly#being raised on cautionary tales of not to touch/disturb anything in the swamps then being given free reign to poke & prod at things in her#lab classes (now with the proper ppe)....she was having so much fun with the curemother prime too lmao#years of walking hanging bridges docks boathouses in ranga etc gave her great balance & stealth#cracking open alien shellfish in the swamps to cutting open bodies for studying then for assassination....#I MISS HER SO MUCH BALIK KN SAKEN 😭😭😭😭😭😭#i get why most people + the canon focuses on her being an assassin bc people find that cooler i guess#but vespa being a swamp girl > 3rd world med student > assassin is so personal To Me. the whole pipeline. eugh.#skl.txt

guy at the interview asking me where i see myself moving forward with the company in the future like i dont. i see myself becoming a famous director. do you think i actually want to make this my career
#i of course did not say that and instead bullshitted about supervisory catering/pantry managing jobs blah blah blah#this is just a paycheck!!!!!! i dont care about hospitality service!!!!!#like to be perfectly honest i think i would be miserable if this were my career for the rest of my life#i understand it would not necessarily be for the rest of my life but still. i do not want to do this for more than i have to#if conceivably being a famous director is not going to happen even though i believe it must.#my fallback position is to take the courses i have to to become a librarian maybe#i don't know. its director or nothing
