Do you make your bed? Yes. Right after getting up all the time. I just need it tidy that way.
Favorite number? Always liked the 11. At least I think I do.
What’s your job? Pharmaceutical technical assistent (Germany coming through with those names) but I hate that job and don't want to work it anymore. Right now I am studying English and Nordic Studies.
If you could go back to school, would you? I mean, life was simpler back then but I was also bullied and struggled with several different things. Under the right circumstances I'd give this question a maybe.
Can you parallel park? I was really good once...then I never did it again and now I forgor how to do it at all (I also don't own a car any more so, I guess it's not too relevant rn)
Do you think aliens are real? If earth really is the only planet with life in ALL EXISTENCE I'd be sooo bummed...There has to be some other creatures out there!
Can you drive a manual car? Yes.
What’s your guilty pleasure? Listening to music and Daydreaming. Whenever I can I do that excessively.
Tattoos? None atm but I hope I'll have some one day.

Any phobias? Wasps and Hornets make me run...I'm not kidding, my flight response kicks in without me being able to do anything about it. I shriek and run. Also when my brain mistakes some different flying insect as one...it's annoying, especially when people go: "Don't be so childish, it's just a wasp." ...Yeah, great, thanks. Helps a lot.
Favorite childhood sport? Riding Horses.
Do you talk to yourself? Mostly in my brain, sometimes out loud. To answer the question: Yup.

Any phobias? I have bathophobia. Everyone always laughs at me, cause I was a pro swimmer who's afraid of depth, but like, yeah sorry can't control it. If I go into the water and suddenly there's nothing under my feet I start panicking real hard. And if I'm diving to check how deep the water is and there's no bottom in like 20 cm I also panic
Favorite childhood sport? Skiing. I loved skiing. I was the only child from the whole parallel in school who wanted to do skiing in our P.E. classes during winter

ESG Reporting and Transparency in the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Sector
Pharmaceutical manufacturing has repeatedly stepped up during global crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Industry leaders are recognizing the significance of environmental, social and governance (ESG) pillars, including climate change, diversity, equity & inclusion (DEI), product innovation, business ethics, equitable access & pricing and product quality. The need to embed and align responsible business practices for strategic decisions, governance and business operations will augur well for purpose-driven pharmaceutical manufacturing organizations.
Leading companies are exploring the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) and Global Reporting Initiative to help pharmaceutical players assess their impacts on corruption, climate change and human rights and pursue opportunities to solve societal challenges.
The global push to develop and build a resilient, equitable and sustainable health system has encouraged stakeholders to achieve a safe, ethical and responsible culture by harnessing the power of innovation and science.
Surmounting Climate Change Concerns—Environmental Pillar
Pharma companies are navigating the environmental challenges that have become notorious for causing a surge in health inequalities, chronic diseases and the burden on the health system.  The environmental impact of drug manufacturing can lead to carbon emissions, pollution and water depletion. Accordingly, access to healthcare and environmental sustainability has come to the fore as an invaluable proposition.
Stakeholders are expected to use emission control practices, technologies, and environmental risk assessment methodologies to limit the discharge of active pharmaceutical ingredients to wastewater from manufacturing processes. For instance, in 2021, Pfizer forged a virtual PPA with Vesper Energy (Vesper), wherein the latter will provide a minimum of 310 MW of renewable energy to the grid from the Hornet Solar project (in west Texas).

Emphasis on Expanding Healthcare Access—Social Pillar
The havoc wrecked by the COVID-19 pandemic proved to be a litmus test for healthcare workers, frontline employees and the public amidst soaring demand to bolster healthcare resilience, boost access to life-saving treatments and foster sustainable healthcare solutions. A buoyant ESG approach alludes to expanding geographies where rare disease medicines are available, ramping up patient access, addressing unmet medical needs and enhancing product life cycle management.
Data analytics can be instrumental for early diagnosis, medical research and training. In 2022, AstraZeneca joined forces with the EDISON Alliance of World Economic Forum to enhance the lives of 1 billion people by 2025 through digital inclusion. The pharmaceutical giant is committed to using AI-based technology to screen 5 million patients for lung cancer.
Ethics and Transparency Vital to Embed ESG Culture—Governance Pillar
Decision-making that complements ethics, quality, transparency and integrity serves as a precursor to governance goals. As the industry moves towards a sustainable future, sound corporate governance will be pivotal to underscore ESG performance. With the pharma industry investing in life-saving drugs, incumbent players are well-positioned to underpin their governance portfolio.
Robust ethical behavior speaks volumes of how industry leaders are doing the right thing—reporting and investigating concerns. For instance, 87% of employees at GlaxoSmithKline believe they “can and do speak up if things don’t feel right.” In 2022, the behemoth reportedly conducted 1,060 quality audits of its suppliers, emphasizing active pharmaceutical ingredient suppliers and propelling product governance.
Corporate governance warrants commitment to high ethical standards to underscore trust among stakeholders and underpin transparency and integrity. Sustainability-focused decision-making will help companies bolster their brand position through ethical decision-making, accountability, supply chain transparency, data privacy & protection and risk management. Notably, audit programs in manufacturing, clinical, preclinical and logistics will ensure that products are compliant with regulatory requirements. Bullish governance policies will muster up the confidence of investors, entrepreneurs, shareholders and other stakeholders.
Reaping Benefits of ESG—a Vital Cog for Business
The future of the pharma industry alludes to a sustainable approach to building a healthier planet. Investments in net zero buildings, renewables, patient engagement, reducing the environmental footprint of the supply chain and manufacturing and medicine optimization will engineer ESG growth. Stakeholders are pushing to the limits to create an atmosphere to impel DEI, provide decent work and economic growth, gender equality, minimize inequalities, foster corporate governance and communicate ESG goals to the public. Prevailing trends exhort the valuation of the global pharmaceutical manufacturing market size at USD 405.52 billion in 2020 and back the expected CAGR of 11.34% between 2021 and 2028.

Rhodes Island has a lot of weird family units. Like. It’s just this mobile pharmaceutical company filled to the brim with people that can take on armies on their own and they all just drifted together into all sorts of groups that you can only really describe as family. Like:
- Single Dad Executer and his daughter Vermeil.
- Gummy and her two moms Zima and Istina (+fun aunts Beehunter and Leto+sad aunt Rosa)
- Ifrit and her two moms Saria and Silence (who are going through a rough patch)
- Everyone knows Reserve Team A6 is just a straight up sitcom family with combat training. Orchid the tired mom, Midnight the suave dad, Spot the responsible but grumpy eldest son, Catapult the troublemaker, and the baby Popukar.
- Nearl and Shinning who are Perfectly Professional at work but the amount of gossip about what they get up to in their off hours is absurd. “Personally handling Nearl’s medical care” indeed.
- Every new recruit has called Dobermann “mom” at least once, it’s a right of passage.
- Hoshiguma and Ch’en have been married for five years and managed to keep it a secret from everyone at Lungmen but somehow they get gifts from everyone at Rhodes when their anniversary rolls around even though they told absolutely no one. “It was kinda obvious.” The Doctor says, Kal’stit nodding behind him.
- And of course everyone knows Kal’stit has more or less adopted Amiya and Red, they just know better then to say it to her face. (Little do they know that she actually officially adopts everyone under 17 that joins Rhodes Island, the only one who had the guts to ask her was the doctor before he lost his memory. “Makes it easier to keep track of everyone.” That was her answer, he knew it was a load of bull, but he knew better then to poke that hornet’s nest)

Day 6?/7 of the Mass Effect Trilogy Week : alternate entry for the Alternate Universe theme *Inception music intensifies*. 1.4k words; gen; instead of just Archangel, the whole gang is a vigilante group on Omega; Shepard/Thane in the background; no content warnings.
Omega. Home and battleground to countless gangs and merc groups, constantly embroiled in the Sisyphean struggle for supremacy. A place inhabited only by the desperate and those who prey on them, where crime drips and permeates every layer of society like water from a leaky pipe.
At least, before they arrived.
She leans against the railing and watches the crowd ebb and flow, bathed in the flickering neon lights. Just another day in their lives, filled with jobs and errands and the mundane realities of daily existence. To the average onlooker, the Gozu District looks no different from the rest of the station: packed, unwashed, and poor as dirt. But there's one key difference, one thing the Gozu has that the rest of the station lacks: safety.
“Shepard. Kasumi's here.”
She turns to see Kolyat, leaning against the doorway to the balcony. “Already?” Then, nodding at the datapad in his hand: “What’ve we got?”
He falls into step with her, long strides matching her brisk, militaristic pace. “Blue Suns harassing the clinic again. They haven't made any big moves, just loitering and showing off their guns, trying to look intimidating.” He sniffs, indignant. “As if Mordin would bat an eye.”
“Tell Garrus to escort the next shipment. Ten credits they'll turn tail the moment they see Archangel in the area.”
He hums a wordless acknowledgement. They round the corner, turning into a narrow corridor, footsteps echoing hollowly against metal walls. “Tali's finished cracking the new grid. We should be able to get in and out with no problem now. Word on the street says the warehouse is somewhere in the Fumi District.”
“Word on the street?” she echoes, raising an eyebrow. “Not Ish?”
“No. The quarian with the junk shop, and one of the dancers in Afterlife.”
“Kenn? He's reliable. Send someone discreet to give a quick look around. Better yet, reach out to the Talons. It's their territory Eclipse is breaching. If Kandros takes the bait, tell her they can have the loot as long as all the red sand is destroyed. I don’t wanna see a single crate make it to the market.”
The door swishes open, and they step into a small, square room. Like the rest of the base, it is sparsely decorated and serves a specific purpose; unlike most of its ilk, it contains a low table by the far wall, an old-fashioned calligraphic scroll in the old Rakhana style, and no other furniture.
As soon as they enter, Kasumi Goto whirls round to face them, a slight smirk on her painted lips. “Hey, Shep.” Her eyes flicker towards Kolyat, and her smile breaks into a grin. “Bō. Good to see you again.”
“Likewise,” Kolyat inclines his head towards her, and then turns to Shepard. “Dad's supposed be back any time now. I should go and see if his shuttle's arrived.”
She nods, and he makes his exit. Only after the doors shut behind him does Kasumi stir, head tilted at a jaunty angle and one hand on her hip. “Did he just say ‘I should go’? My, my. Sounds like you're infectious.” She gestures towards a box lying on the floor. “Here you go, everything as we agreed. Call it proof of my sincere loyalty.”
A large white case, emblazoned with the Cerberus logo, its lock forced open and jury-rigged shut again afterwards. Shepard eyes it over, noting the unscathed finish and clean, glossy paint. “I take it the mission was a success?”
Kasumi makes a dismissive noise. She kneels by the case and pops it open before adding, over her shoulder: “Don't get me wrong, the lock was triple-encrypted and the base security key changes every week. But even Cerberus' best and brightest is no match for the best thief in the galaxy.”
“Obviously,” Shepard agrees. She steps forward to peer into the case, before emitting a low whistle. “Is that what I think it is?”
“If you're thinking ‘one-of-a-kind custom sword with monomolecular blade’, then yeah.” Kasumi lifts it from the case, and lights dance on the ceiling where it reflects off the blade. “Snatched this baby from right under their noses. It was supposed to be for some wetworks guy, Ken or Kay or… something.”
She passes it to Shepard, who accepts it quickly, turning it in her hands and examining it with meticulous attention. “No curvature, no distinct marks… crossguard's ugly as they come. Does everything have to be black, white, and yellow?” She runs her thumb along the hilt until she finds the sensor. “Hah. Electrified. Did you hack the user key?”
“Not yet, but I'm sure our quarian friend will have no problem with it.” Kasumi pauses, waiting for a reply. When none seems forthcoming, she adds: “Or I can do it now if you want.”
“That won't be necessary.” Shepard lowers the sword again, placing it on the table. “And the rest?”
“Mostly Talons, Hornets, a few Eviscerators under the cloaking devices. I left them with Zaeed in the hangar.” Kasumi’s eyes sparkle with a professional’s pride in a job well done. “Told you I can do it.”
Shepard nods. “All right. You’ve proved your point. Just tell me one more thing.”
“Shoot.” Beat. “Not literally, I hope.”
“Why us?”
Their gazes meet. Shepard keeps her expression neutral, but she knows there’s no ambiguity in her silence. It says: you’re going to tell me exactly what I want to know, and you’re not going to lie, because we both know that won't be good for your health.
Kasumi shrugs. “At first? Just curiosity. Everyone knows the Drala'fa keep tight control over Gozu. I didn't think much of it at first. Sounded just like another protection racket to me. When Liara hired me to do the New Dawn heist, I was just in it for the score. Then you funnelled the entire shipment to the local clinic, pro bono. That’s when I knew you weren't just any gang.
“So, I started digging deeper. Turns out there’s more to you guys than robbing pharmaceutical corporations and monopolising the district. Aria may be the queen of Omega, but you’re the closest thing this place’s got to oversight. You don’t just keep the area under watch, you actually care about the people who live in it. Do you know how many escaped batarian slaves live in your district?”
“About two hundred and twenty,” Shepard answers readily. “At least half of them in Nictus’ apartment complex.”
“See? That’s what I mean. You’re not some big boss type. You’re…” Kasumi waves a hand in the air vaguely, “a shepherd. People don’t follow you because they’re scared of you. They follow you because they know you care.”
Shepard snorts. “Nice speech.”
“Thanks. I practiced in my bathroom this morning.”
“You really came prepared. I'm impressed.”
There's a bottle of elasa on the table, along with a single cup. Shepard uncorks the former, pours it into the latter, and takes a long sip. The alcohol buzzes in her mouth, bitter and fragrant, before burning its way down her throat to leave a sweet aftertaste.
Then she proffers the rest to Kasumi, a silent offering. There's a moment of perfect, breathless stillness.
(Does she know what accepting it would mean? She does. The faint glimmer of recognition in her dark eyes says so. She still remembers the old traditions, then. Good. Someone has to.)
Slowly, with great care, Kasumi takes the cup and downs its contents in one shot. She doesn't return the empty cup, but keeps it in her lap, holding it with both hands.
“Welcome to the Drala'fa, Kasumi,” Shepard leans forward to offer her hand, which the other woman promptly shakes. “Remember why we're here. Remember who we are. Remember who we stand for.”
“I will.”
A protracted pause. The cool air whirs like static.
Finally, it’s Kasumi who breaks the silence. She clears her throat and begins, almost apologetically: “You know, if you wanted the real deal, I can probably find you a crate or two. Human drinks are getting pretty popular in Thessia lately.”
Shepard chuckles. “Tempting. But maybe later. Right now, I’ve got a couple other jobs open. Word is Eclipse has a red sand warehouse somewhere in the Fumi District. Feel like doing a little recon work? Just recon; locate the warehouse, count heads, gauge their strength, the usual.”
“Sure.” Kasumi grins, and they both rise to their feet. She tugs the edge of her hood, pulling it deeper over her head, before adding: “You’re the boss, Boss.”

Vipers (2008)
“Homeland Security? This isn’t terrorism, these are snakes!”
From a few giant snakes to a whole bunch of tinier snakes, we go from “Anaconda: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid” to the 2008 TV horror film “Vipers”. As I continue this theme of Nature for October Horror, I’ve come to realize that there’s very little you can do - or, at least, little that horror filmmakers are willing to do with what animals they can use. The animal selection for many horror films tend to revolve around three basic categories: bugs, lizards, and wild card. In the coming days we will see a lot of horror films that’ll try to make various bugs (such as bees/hornets, ants, and especially spiders) and lizards (snakes and gators/crocs) scary - which isn’t hard, considering many people tend to fear them already. There’s also the third category of wild card, which usually an animal that isn’t typically scary but either out of creative filmmaking or merely parody, the film makes such animals scary (such as your “Slugs” or “Night of the Lepus”). Keep this in mind as I try my best to find horror films, and the best I can offer are scaly things, creepy crawlies, and the occasional rando - hopefully a sheep.
With this warning made, let’s talk about a movie where actress Tara Reid runs away by genetically enhanced vipers - who are so horny they reproduce like rabbits.
“Vipers” is about a pack of super genetically enhanced horned vipers, which through the means of science has made them extremely venomous, hostile, quick to reproduce, but worst of all carnivorous enough to chow down on human flesh. During a heist gone wrong, the snakes escape a remote laboratory and descend upon a remote island inhabited by many locals. The people, including a doctor and a gardner with a rough relationship, must band together to fend off this swarm of snakes - all the while the pharmaceutical company that created them is on the hunt, while also hoping to wipe away any evidence of their involvement.
As this is a straight-to-TV movie starring the likes of Tara Reid and Corbin Bernson (aka the dad from Psych), we’re not exactly getting writing that’ll get you off the edge of your seat. Characters are basic, and you can pretty much predict where exactly they’ll go by scene 1. The bratty teen will learn to appreciate her parents; the kindly old man with a gun; the caring doctor who wants to save the town despite being part of the company; blah blah blah. The story beats are easy to see coming, and you’ll be calling out actions and scenes a mile away if you’re savvy enough with basic filmmaking. Basically, you’re not watching “Vipers” for the story - you’re watching “Vipers” for the moments of snake violence and characters getting eaten. I mean, one of the first kills is a couple on their honeymoon talking about their future - if anyone was going to die fast, it was definitely them.
The acting ranges between annoying to serviceable, though thankfully few do reach the worst areas of annoyance. There’s plenty of funny lines, and it seems to me that many within the cast are having fun with the movie. It’s mostly stupid line reads and moments, though that’s what you really want with these kinds of films - any serious moments is either unintentionally hilarious or boring. Honestly a lot of the performances in this film kinda blended with one another, and it lost my attention at times - except in parts where the snakes were around, and that’s because…
The snakes are hilariously obvious with their CGI. If the anacondas in “Anacondas” was bad, then the vipers in “Vipers” are worse. They don’t blend into the background at all, and their movements often feel replicated by the dozens. They wiggle crazily when they attack, in such a way that they feel like their operating on higher frames-per-second than the human characters (which I guess is part of their evil genetic tampering). It’s funny how they chow down on human flesh like dogs, completely unlike how actual snakes eat (though that’s explained as actually being part of their evil experimentation, so I can’t really complain). The presentation of these snakes is actually bad enough that it bounces over to hilarity, and is honestly the only thing that kept me watching the film.
Everything else about this movie, such as music or camera work, isn’t that special. There is this weird problem at times where the film looks really blurry, like someone rubbed vaseline or water onto the lens. It’s particularly strange because it tends to cut in between shots that are very much clear. Besides that though, “Vipers” looks alright for TV quality, but at the same time that’s about the level of entertainment you’ll be getting.
I guess much like “Anacondas”, this movie is neither great nor terrible. However unlike “Anacondas”, it is far funnier to riff. If you got friends and want to pass the time with a movie to make fun of in the background, than you could try watching “Vipers”. Otherwise, not a movie to actively look for.

You haven't seen a delivery ceremony like spot check training
You haven't seen a delivery ceremony like spot check training
The delivery ceremony of the first batch of pharmaceutical cold chain transport vehicles was held in Beijing. Zhangaiping, vehicle management manager of Beijing Shunfeng pharmaceutical in North China, zhouzhenhua, senior manager of strategic customer marketing company of Futian Marketing Corporation, Zhu Kai, value customer director of howo aoling marketing company and other leaders attended the ceremony.
Since 2019, through continuous cooperation, SF logistics has continuously deepened its recognition of sinotruk aoling's products and services. Not only has the number of orders increased to about 200 units per year, but also the purchased products have gradually expanded from light trucks to medium trucks. The 13 sets of aoling Bumblebee medium cards delivered this time are relatively high-end class H products in refrigerated trucks. They will be added to the SF medical cold chain sequence for the transportation of new crown vaccines, commercial vaccines and other medical products. As a well-known brand of commercial vehicles, this delivery has once again proved the hard core strength of Foton aoling products and services, and also marked that the cooperation between Foton aoling and SF logistics has entered a new stage.
Different from the delivery ceremony in the general sense, the whole process of this activity is more like the war preparedness mobilization before the commencement.
Before the official start of the delivery ceremony, the service team set up by Foton aoling for SF arrived at the site early and carefully checked the 13 aoling Bumblebee refrigerated trucks to be delivered one by one.
The drivers of SF logistics also entered the cab, started the truck and tested various functions.
The service managers of Foton Cummins and carrier also conducted professional training for SF's drivers on the maintenance and use of vehicles and daily precautions.
After nearly three hours of full preparation, 13 aoling Bumblebee refrigerated trucks are running well and everything is ready! Zhouzhenhua, senior manager of strategic customer marketing company of Foton Marketing Corporation, solemnly handed the car key to zhangaiping, North China regional vehicle management manager of Beijing Shunfeng pharmaceutical. Subsequently, Zhu Kai, value customer director of Foton aoling marketing company, presented the model of aoling hornet to Zhang Aiping to commemorate this special moment. Under the joint witness of Representatives, partners and guest staff of both sides, the delivery ceremony of the first batch of SF & aoling pharmaceutical cold chain transport vehicles was successfully completed!
"Our requirements for medical cold chain vehicles are very strict. On the one hand, compared with ordinary goods such as fresh food and fruits, vaccines and other medical products are not only high in value, but also the transportation environment needs to be kept within 2-8 ° throughout the whole process, which requires a very high temperature control system for vehicles. On the other hand, SF has developed rapidly in the medical cold chain industry, covering the whole country, and the transportation mileage is also increasing. In the long-distance transportation process, whether extreme or evil Bad weather or other accidents will prolong the arrival time of medical products. If we cannot get timely rescue, it will cause great losses to our customers and ourselves. " Zhang Aiping said, "Whether it's thermostatic control or the reliability of the vehicle, aoling Bumblebee meets our needs very well. Compared with the previously used vehicles, aoling Bumblebee not only has durable leather, lower failure rate, but also has the characteristics of low self weight and high load. Most importantly, we are deeply impressed by the timeliness and efficiency of aoling's rescue service. For the medical cold chain transportation, this can help us greatly improve the operation efficiency and reduce the Less accidental cargo damage. "
It is understood that the aoling Bumblebee refrigerator car delivered this time adopts the Foton Cummins 4.5 engine with a maximum power of 220 HP, plus the fast 8-speed gearbox and a large wheel base of 5750mm. It is not only powerful, has strong climbing ability, but also has full stability and safety, and can cope with complex working conditions. At the same time, as the first lightweight medium truck in China, aoling Bumblebee has adopted more than 30 lightweight technologies in terms of fuel tank, wheel hub, frame, etc., which is 500 kg lighter than that of similar products, and can provide a higher load. In terms of service, as the first car company in China to propose the "six King bombing" service, Foton aoling's "three hour arrival" and other rapid rescue responses not only solved the rescue problems for countless card friends, but also continuously won the praise of card friends.
"In conjunction with CIMC, carrier and other top brands in the industry, we have customized thermostatically controlled carriages with dual coolers for this batch of aoling Bumblebee refrigerated cars to meet the special needs of SF medical cold chain transportation. At the same time, we also select the enlarged oil tank that aoling Bumblebee can be equipped with to ensure that the oil can be filled at one time without refueling throughout the whole process, so as to achieve ultra long-distance rapid delivery and improve operation efficiency. In addition, we also provide car coupons for customers Network service, through monitoring key equipment and parts and reminding drivers of fatigue driving and other services, to further ensure the safety of the transportation process. " Zhu Kai introduced the special guarantee specially created for SF healthcare cold chain, "In addition to the basic 'Six Kings' bombing' service, we also provide three customized guarantees for SF: first, we select excellent service outlets to provide basic services such as fixed-point maintenance, priority overhaul and on-site overhaul for SF; second, we arrange multiple fixed-point service outlets to provide guarantee for SF according to its regular transportation routes and mileage. For example, from Shanghai to Beijing, we plan 7-8 service outlets in SF's When the vehicle passes the rest, we will use this period of time for service; Third, because SF vehicles are frequently used and have a long mileage, we will increase the number of maintenance times according to the use situation to ensure that the vehicles are in the best condition. "
As the fastest growing commercial vehicle brand in China, Foton aoling has been relying on high-quality products and high-quality services to continuously establish extensive and in-depth strategic cooperation relations with powerful major customers such as SF, JD and China Post, constantly refresh market achievements and become a brand benchmark in the field of commercial vehicles. In the future, aoling will continue to adhere to the core concept of "customer-centric", continue to develop more star products with innovative technology, continue to upgrade service quality, create value for customers and create benefits for the country.

Deal With Erectile Dysfunction By Way Of On The Online Pharmacies Decide For Levitra
McGwin said one important consideration in evaluating the nature of the relationship between the drugs and hearing is the existence of a plausible biological mechanism of how these drugs might cause hearing loss. And become your own best advocate for healthy hearing by discussing any hearing loss you think you might be experiencing with a hearing healthcare professional. The FDA found a total of 29 reports, which involved patients experiencing ringing in their ears, vertigo and/or dizziness. The FDA began investigating the possible link between hearing loss and ED drugs after the publication of an article for ear, nose and throat specialists in last April's Journal of Laryntology and Otology, according to FDA spokeswoman Rita Chappelle. Easy availability of erectile dysfunction drugs at retail pharmacies, low price of the drugs, and expansion of leading retail pharmaceutical chains across the globe drive the segment. The hospital pharmacies segment held the second largest share of the global market. North America held the largest share of the global erectile dysfunction drugs market in 2017. The U.S. Now days though the market has been flooded with various anti-impotency solutions but you should keep your mind open to take the correct decision during the selection. Believable, Merc AU
The What: Yusei contemplates real hard on a slew of factors regarding his current job and what it means to really trust someone. Atem learns the hard way that he should never hang up on a man who knows exactly where he is and is already madder than a hornet at him.
The When: Set a few hours after this little ditty.
The Who: Yusei and Atem.
The Rating: Leaning into a PG here, since Yusei is a bit of a light curser when he gets angry (nothing too serious tho).
Yusei stared up at the darkened ceiling of the room, hands tucked behind his head and sleep long since abandoned to the early hours of the night. The stray thoughts had slunk into his mind like some sort of wisp of smoke that refused to leave the room, leaving him with an acrid taste in his mouth.
His brow furrowed as he traced the faint lines upon the ceiling with blue eyes. Where once there was some form of trust, only tatters remained. The Academy, Atem, Yliaster. Where did one begin and the other cease intersecting with the other? His mind buzzed with thoughts of the three, swarming through his head like angry hornets.
He brought up a hand to press to the bridge of his nose, knowing full well that sleep would be the last thing he'd receive tonight.
Pushing back the covers, he got to his feet, reaching for the shirt on his nightstand and pulling it over messy hair as he headed for the door. No, what he really wanted was actual answers; something he was highly unlikely to find at either this hour or safehouse.
He toed his way into his boots and yanked hard at the laces, his frustration falling upon them as he tugged the knot into existence.
Perhaps a simple walk to calm his mind would be just the thing he needed.
Or something to punch. He was a man of simple pleasures really.
Fingers slipped about the phone in his pocket, already turning it on as he pulled his jacket on with a free hand. Shrugging it on, he retrieved the headphones from another pocket and tucked them into his ears, already out the door before the musical strains began playing.
Down darkened stairs and out into the cold night, where his breath fogged and his skin threatened to bloom a soft pink in the frigid air. Yusei released a short sigh at the change in temperature, raising his eyes to the skyline as he thrust his hands into jacket pockets.
At the very least, he never really undressed before heading to bed, so the rest of him would stay warm for quite some time.
He began at a brisk pace, feeling the cold nip at his cheeks, and allowing his mind to begin the hefty job of sorting and sifting and categorising the thoughts that swam through his head.
The big question at the top of them all was Atem's loyalties. Personally, he knew nothing about his history with the Academy; something he was now kicking himself over. The basic stats of the man, he knew, only due to mission briefings and various meetings. Anything specific, or hell, even anything broad for that matter? He was clutching at a giant blank.
It was something that could be worked upon, especially if their partnership had to undergo a drastic change.
Next on his list was Atem's ties to the Yliaster group. Not much to go on there, as all information on them was somewhat above his level of clearance, and all he really knew about the group themselves were the basics and his own personal interactions with them.
A light frown crossed his expression. It was something that Yuma might be able to help him with, but he'd rather limit the amount of exposure his associates received. If the programmer was caught it would mean the end of everything for him; career, future, and potentially his life. Something as drastic as that over a simple query, yet he knew how the Academy would react; perhaps he could delicately ask Astral.
The group's internal administration itself wasn't as public as the Academy, but at their head – or as far as publicity was concerned – sat their leader, Seto Kaiba. A man whose father had built the company from the ground up, providing all sorts of trade to varying companies. Logistical supplies, medical delivery devices, civilian lifestyle technologies, life-saving pharmaceuticals; it was hard to pin down exactly what the company front did as a whole, yet it was varied enough that it helped spread the image.
Yliaster was a company beneficial to the future of mankind.
At least that's what it said on the box.
Yusei had to admit, it was smart marketing. When the time came to pull the curtain away, humanity would stand firmly with them to the bitter end over having made such radical, positive changes to the world about them. Who in their right mind would deny people such basic necessities?
No, it was a clever smokescreen, but it made his digging all the more difficult.
He gave a faint noise of thought as he glanced up at the world about him, drifting lightly back into reality and feeling like the only person in this dim-lit street. In a way, he really was; walking like an angrily burdened man with little else on his mind but his frustrations, it was no wonder that those stray few people on the pavement avoided him.
With a frown, it brought him back to the last thing on his mind.
The Academy itself.
At the head sat the Council; names and faces he didn't know, nor did the public. In what was probably a similar scheme to Yliaster, the puppeteers really pulling the strings were only known to select individuals within the respective groups, and the Council was something Yusei had never had the good fortune of meeting.
Under them sat the Administrators, and that's where the true branching began. Where some were truly for the public face of the Academy – a worldwide university of the highest prestige, offering only the finest in athletics and scholarly teachings – there were a broader collection of those that watched as much as they participated.
The Administrators whose sole purpose was to monitor and mould and recruit.
Those were the ones most disturbing to Yusei; the ones with the first say in whether or not a person's life would forever be altered. Much like that of poor Yuma, his mind whispered.
Much like his own.
His mind pressed on, not preferring to stray too long upon that particular topic. After the Administrators came the real meat of the Academy; those who reared and trained and dispatched.
The Handlers.
Tasked with the wellbeing of new recruits, they were solely responsible for their upbringing and education. Depending on their chosen field, those inducted into the Academy were mentored by a very specific group of Handlers. Yusei knew he was one of the lucky ones chosen for field work, but there were obviously others in varying fields. Computer sciences, engineering, medical fields, consulting specialists... just a few of departments ticked through his head as he walked.
He knew of Yuma's role in the Academy, and what his specialised fields were. Atem, however, was still a question in his mind. Certainly, he was a field agent, but to what capacity aside from close quarters combat specialist, he had no idea.
He'd only been with the Academy for a short time; short enough that he and Yusei had only performed one mission together, and that was a complete wash.
Blue eyes narrowed. If the mission was such a failure, why hadn't he been recalled from the field to report in more detail? If Atem had truly gone rogue, then why hadn't he heard of cleanup being dispatched? Why hadn't he heard from Yuma, or even Astral?
He resisted the faint growl of frustration that sat on his tongue and closed his eyes, running a hand through his hair.
All of a sudden since that afternoon, in the space of a few short hours, he'd been kept utterly in the dark.
The bigger question came in the analysis of his own questions. Had Atem truly gone rogue? He fled from the scene nearly immediately after Yusei had found out about his connection to Yliaster. Not to mention the way the man had been in hiding ever since. He could appreciate people in their particular line of work being secretive, but this was something else entirely.
No, this was... almost as if the man were scared.
Yusei could understand why, however; both groups they were involved with were likely to silence you if things went awry. Not a comforting thought. Self preservation was one thing, but Yusei doubted even he could manage to avoid the Academy for long.
Still... if Atem was scared for his life, he had a funny way of showing Yusei gratitude for saving it.
Blue eyes hardened as his thoughts spun further and further. That target earlier... just how had he known what Atem's connection to Yliaster was? It was clear that Atem had no idea who the man was, so would the target have been briefed on Atem beforehand? Was Yliaster that open with their members that they freely spoke about former agents? No, surely not...
Yusei reached up with both hands, gently blowing warm breath into cupped fingers.
Surely he would have to have been told. There was no way a mere grunt would know-
The music in his ears faded with the oncoming announcement of a soft chime, and he fished his phone from his pocket, wondering who could be calling him at this hour; he'd already reported in, after all.
No caller ID. Whilst nothing unusual to him, the timing still felt off.
He clicked the accept button and tucked the device back in his pocket, almost thankful for the welcome distraction.
“Stardust,” he spoke curtly, breath streaming behind him in a fog as he walked.
“That's no way to say hello.”
The smooth voice on the line drew his brow to a deep furrow of annoyance and he very nearly hung up on the man out of spite.
“Then don't skip out on the first date next time,” he answered sharply. Atem laughed brightly on the other end, and he could just about see that self-satisfied smirk on his face.
“But that just makes you twice as keen for a second.”
Yusei did sigh then, reaching up to pinch the bridge of his nose. Mixing business with pleasure was a surefire way to get himself or the other killed; something he'd already seen far too often in his career. He dropped his hand and tucked it back into his jacket, ignoring the statement.
“Where are you?”
The simple question brought the interested sound from his runaway partner.
“Why do you ask?”
“Because I need to punch you,” Yusei replied, deadpanned.
The snicker drew from the end of the line once more, despite how utterly serious the sharpshooter was. If there was one thing he wanted to do tonight, it was lay a fist somewhere between that smug grin and his forehead.
“You compromised the mission,” he continued. “I have every right to do so, and you know it.”
“Well aren't you a barrel of laughs,” Atem murmured wryly. “Are you sure the mission was a complete failure?” Yusei felt his patience fraying, like picking the thread of a seam. What else would he call it if not a failure?
“Considering my partner went AWOL with both the merchandise and cash, leaving only a dead man and a message to Yliaster, yes.”
He knew the mention of the name would wring a reaction from the other, and the resounding silence was all he needed to hear.
“Besides, there's the other-”
“We succeeded, Stardust,” Atem cut him off coldly.
“Bullshit we did!” Yusei snapped at him, his composure snapping like a pencil.
“Language, please. And let me explain before you fly off the handle.”
The dark haired man drew to a stop, straightening with a short intake of breath as he closed his eyes. No, there was no need to let the man rile him like this. He was more irritated over a mission gone awry than at his new partner, he knew that much. The fact that his new partner happened to be the cause for such a mission going awry was more than enough to get under his skin, however.
“Atem...” Yusei breathed into the night, wringing only the sigh from the man.
“So glad I called on a secured line...” came the murmur in his ear. “Look, Yusei, the reason things went the way they did is the very fact you were there.”
That got his attention.
“I say that because, well...” the man trailed off and Yusei felt the frown cross his brow.
He knew the reason; for as scant as Atem's file was within his clearance level, he knew that the man didn't partner well with others. He knew Pharaoh was a hard agent to work with at the best of times, and he had a habit of playing by his own rules, so any mission with him would always be difficult.
Yusei never really drew the conclusion that his own involvement in his own mission would be the crux of Atem's problems.
“You're blaming me for the fact you walked out?” the sharpshooter hissed.
“No,” the reply came sternly in his ear. “I...”
Dark brows furrowed deeply. He'd never heard the man sound so unsure about anything; that usual confidence and finesse with words all but vanishing. This was something more than a mere clash of personalities, Yusei was sure.
The sigh sounded light in his ears.
“I had to get out of there. Silly, I know,” Atem's soft words did nothing but confirm his earlier suspicions. “It was a brief momentary lapse of judgement, leaving me with little choice but to make amends.”
“Flattered.”
“You should be,” the man continued. “It's not often I have to save face; there is my reputation to uphold, after all.”
There was the mask again. Slipped so simply over his words and lacing tight about the ever-present smirk on his lips. Truth be told, Yusei was glad to hear it return. The truth, as always, was something far easier to tuck away for another day.
Yusei reached up to tap at his marker, letting the wash of overlays colour the world about him until he reached the tracer path he was after. He certainly wasn't the sentimental type, but it was time to find the man.
“Reputation or not, you still made a point to break into our safehouse and bribe my silence with coffee.”
The sharp laughter rang through his ears as something distant in his vision pinged in response, a path towards his target outline on the ground before him. Yusei was mildly surprised; he wasn't at all far away.
“Though you did also tell me... no more Satisfaction.”
There was a lingering silence on the line as Yusei heard the shift of cloth and soft footsteps.
“...and no more Yliaster,” the man finished for him. “Yusei, I meant what I wrote. Believe what you will, but I've long severed my ties with them.”
He wanted sorely to find the truth in those words, yet something in the back of his mind still gnawed at him. If Atem was truly free of their grasp, it would certainly take more than words to prove his loyalty to the Academy. It would also take more than mere words to prove himself to Yusei.
Blue eyes narrowed faintly at his own thoughts and he slowed to a stop.
Trust was always such a disposable commodity in their profession. As easily as they could slip on the mask of disguise, they could throw it out in a heartbeat.
The quiet sigh sat on his tongue and he felt his hands clench at his side. Trust or not, the man was his partner, and they were stuck with one another until all their skeletons were flushed from their closets. It was a brutal compromise and it sat heavily in his mind. The olive branch was his to extend, it seemed.
“I don't... blame you... for running out,” he told him softly.
The tone of that voice caught Atem by surprise and the silence lingered down the line until Yusei did sigh lightly, closing his eyes to shake his head lightly, not liking the way the frustration sat in his chest.
He detested the unfamiliar feeling crawling through his skin, and he tried to force it from his mind as he began walking once more, firmly fixing his eyes upon the little radar blip of Atem's location.
“I would've done the same,” he admitted simply, feeling the bitter taste of acquiesce on his tongue.
There was a brief beat of time before Atem's marker began to move, descending somewhat, and he could hear footsteps through the line. Wherever he'd holed himself up, he was now heading downstairs and on the move once more, something that spiked the adrenaline lightly into Yusei's veins. Was he trying to run again?
“... thank you,” Atem replied. He paused for a moment. “You're still not getting me to apologise twice in the one conversation, by the way.”
Yusei gave a faint noise of consideration to that, and he was rewarded with a soft chuckle. Blue eyes watched as that marker reached ground level; at least at this distance and location, he could start sprinting if he needed to catch the slippery bastard.
“Oh, and by the way,” the amused voice curled into his ears.
The sharpshooter sighed into the line. “What.”
“Stop tracking me.”
Blue eyes widened as the phone call ended abruptly, killing off the active signal and leaving him staring at a last known location mark blinking rapidly in his vision. Without missing a beat, he exploded forward from his place as feet pounded on the concrete path. Of course the little wretch was monitoring his location from his phone. Twice in one day-!
Muscles began burning as he tore along the sidewalk, not even trying to mask the noise as boots thudded noisily one after the other. If he lost Atem now, it would be over. There'd be no going back from the olive branch he'd extended him, and the next time he saw him, they'd damn well be on opposing sides.
The snarl sat on his lips as he sprinted around the corner, feeling his lungs burn from exertion, and the marker in his vision rapidly counted down to a close. It was only as he rounded the corner, the street opening up to a broad and tidy plaza, that he began to slow.
He glanced around him hurriedly, hoping to see some slim sign of a fleeing person, or someone recovering from being knocked down in a hurry. At least then, he'd know where the agent had run off to.
“Yo,” came the cheery greeting from almost behind him.
Yusei startled, whirling around with fists cocked as Atem reclined on one of the benches nearby. The rogue agent offered him a friendly wave as he stood, that horrible grin plastered on his face.
“Wow, you should see your face,” he told him with a soft laugh.
Still breathing heavily, rage ran through his veins as swiftly as the adrenaline that brought him here, and he stormed over to the man. Without pausing, he swung hard, fist slamming into the agent's jaw and snapping his head back, causing him to stagger back a few paces.
Atem raked a hand along the edge of the bench, steadying himself with a sharp shake of his head as his world suddenly swam. God, did the man just give him a concussion by means of a hello?
“Christ, nice to see you too,” he mouthed, working his jaw to ensure nothing was actually broken.
“You deserved that you son of a bitch,” Yusei told him sharply as he shook his hand out, feeling almost a little better from that.
Pharaoh tenderly rubbed his jaw, knowing it would be ridiculously sore for the next few days. What the hell were Yusei's arms made of? Titanium? He swore one of his teeth were loose...
“Good to see you kept your promise to me,” he told him, still blinking the blurring vision away. He hadn't really expected Yusei to punch him, and the surprise was more of a shock than the actual action of clocking him one in the jaw. “I don't think I'll hang up on you again anytime soon.”
A hand fisted in his dress shirt, dragging him forward and all but lifting him up to Yusei's eye level. Furious anger sat fresh in those sharp blue eyes and he almost laughed at the situation of facing the full anger of Stardust. Was this the last thing people saw if they caught him without his weapons? No wonder the man had such a fierce reputation.
“Don't you dare ever try that again,” Yusei all but spat at him in dangerous snarl.
Atem couldn't help but laugh. “Lighten up, I thought partners were supposed to be able to take a joke.” Despite the active threat on his life, there was no stopping the easy mirth that fell from him; a defence mechanism that usually always got him in trouble, but always put him in very close proximity to targets.
He held up a hand in light surrender. “You seemed content to talk way too much while you were tracking me. I wanted you to cut to the chase, alright?” Atem told him smoothly. Yusei growled under his breath, and some sane portion of his mind could see the logic behind it. It still didn't help the fact his partner was being a complete ass about it.
“If you knew I was already on my way here, why not just tell me to hurry it up?”
“Well, would you have listened? Or would you still think I was attempting to run?”
That brought Yusei up short, and he shoved him back in annoyance, feeling his breathing even out.
“Of course I would think that!” he snapped. “It wouldn't be the first time in your history you'd run out on a partner.”
Atem narrowed his eyes lightly at that, giving a soft huff in response, arms folding across his chest, all humour slipping from him.
“You don't even know why-”
“Then tell me,” Yusei interjected sharply, feeling his composure fraying around the man. He reached up, jabbing a finger to his partner's chest. “Like it or not, we're shackled together until the Academy says otherwise. We support each other on the field. We don't abandon each other. We are a team!”
“Yusei.”
The smooth tone of that voice brought him to a stop and a hand closed over his wrist, cool crimson eyes meeting furious blue.
“I know we are, and like I already told you, I won't apologise twice in the same conversation,” he answered softly. There was a beat of time as he felt the muscles within that arm began to relax a little, and he was glad that Stardust was starting to at least listen to him and come back down.
“I take some time to get used to, and in turn, I'm not used to having a partner yet,” he cut himself off, looking down briefly. “Not... for a long time.” He released Yusei's wrist, bringing his eyes up once more.
“Asking you to trust me is pointless; you won't ever do that.”
The sudden admission was enough to draw the light surprise from Yusei, and he reached up to pluck his long forgotten earbuds from his ears, tucking the tangle of wire back in his pocket.
Trust would always be his downfall so long as he were in this profession; that much he knew about himself. Yet extending it to someone was a two-way street. Atem had yet to give him a reason to put his faith in the man, and to effectively work together, it was something they both needed to work on.
He knew it was a stretch, but he hated the feeling of frustration welling in his stomach because of it all.
“No, I might not...” he breathed in reply. “Regardless, you know I keep my word.”
He held his hand out to the man, knowing there was only a few ways his offer could go.
“So trust or not, in the meantime, you can believe what I say.”
Atem had to blink back at the man at his sudden turnabout. It was... almost jarring to see when he'd all but knocked his lights out some scant minute ago. Still... there was nothing to suggest Stardust had an agenda; the man didn't operate like that. Hell, he was a straight-laced as they came when talking about operations of any kind.
For Atem to be presented with such a deal, he could hardly believe his luck. Yusei would just... blindly offer his faith to him like this? He reached up hesitantly, hand pausing before the other's for a moment as the light frown crossed his brow.
“You remember what it was like to have friends, don’t you?”
The words crossed through his mind like hot oil searing skin and he clasped the hand before him, forcibly pushing the memory to the side. It was something he couldn't afford to dwell upon in this moment.
“Thank you... Yusei...” he breathed softly.
The man in question shook his hand lightly, before drawing back. Seemingly satisfied with how things had progressed between the two of them, he raked a hand through dark hair, feeling his emotions settle a little after their brief confrontation.
“Come on,” he told him, already turning away from the small plaza. Atem was left standing with his thoughts for a moment before falling into step alongside him and following.
He didn't feel the need to question where they were going; for as much unease ran between them, the amicable silence was almost welcoming. Yusei led the way as the two of them walked towards the busier part of the suburb, almost tempted to put his earbuds back in if it weren't for the fact he wanted to keep an eye on the other.
He was still downright angry at the man, and more than irritated at his own response. Yusei knew getting angry wouldn't solve anything, but it seemed as if working together would be like sandpaper on his skin at times. Blue eyes glanced skywards, knowing it would be a long journey between the two of them to rebuild that already tattered trust.
Slowly, steadily, it could be done... but it would take an openness not really seen amongst their kind.
Rounding the corner, they approached a nearby food truck, Yusei intent on ordering something hot and greasy and sorely needed at this hour of the night.
“Two pad thai,” came the voice from next to him.
Atem placed the money on the counter before Yusei had the chance, and at the sideways glance he got from the man, gave a noncommittal shrug. Collecting their food, the two of them walked onwards, hands already warmed by thick noodles within their containers. It wasn't until they'd opened the piping hot tubs, digging into their food as they walked, that Atem spoke up.
“For saving my life earlier,” came the simple explanation.
Yusei gave a light frown. “You already bought me coffee.”
Atem laughed. “No, that was for not shooting me earlier. This is for not punching me twice,” he explained. “Seriously, your arms are ridiculous. How heavy are your weapons?”
Blue eyes glanced back at the man, a faint smile ghosting across his lips. It sure wasn't perfect – it was downright dysfunctional – but working with the man was going to prove entertaining, at the very least.
Maybe Stardust needed to lighten up a little, just like his partner said.

Not All Experts Are Ready to Vaccinate Kids Against Covid
Lucien Wiggins, 12, arrived at Tufts Children’s Hospital by ambulance June 7 with chest pains, dizziness and high levels of a protein in his blood that indicated inflammation of his heart. The symptoms had begun a day earlier, the morning after his second vaccination with the Pfizer-BioNTech mRNA shot.
For Dr. Sara Ross, chief of pediatric critical care at the Boston hospital, the event confirmed a doubt she’d been nursing: Was the country pushing its luck by vaccinating children against covid at a time when the disease was relatively mild in the young — and skepticism of vaccines was frighteningly high?
“I have practiced pediatric ICU for almost 15 years and I have never taken care of a single patient with a vaccine-related complication until now,” Ross told KHN. “Our standard for safety seems to be different for all the other vaccines we expose children to.”
To be sure, cases of myocarditis like Lucien’s have been rare, and the reported side effects, though sometimes serious, generally resolve with pain relievers and, sometimes, infusions of antibodies. And a covid infection itself is far more likely than a vaccine to cause myocarditis, including in younger people.
Lucien went home, on the mend, after two days on intravenous ibuprofen in intensive care. Most of the 800 or so cases of heart problems among all ages reported to a federal vaccine safety database through May 31 followed a similar course. Yet the pattern of these cases — most occurred in young males after the second Pfizer or Moderna shot — suggested that the ailment was caused by the vaccine, rather than being coincidental.
At a time when the vaccination campaign is slowing, leading conservatives are openly spreading disinformation about vaccines, and scientists fear a possible upsurge in cases this fall or winter, side effects in young people pose a conundrum for public health officials.
On Friday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s vaccine advisory committee is set to meet to discuss the possible link and whether it merits changing its recommendations for vaccinating teenagers with the Pfizer vaccine, which the Food and Drug Administration last month authorized for children 12 and older. A similar authorization for the Moderna vaccine is pending, and both companies are conducting clinical trials that will test their vaccines on children as young as 6 months old.
At a meeting last week of an FDA advisory committee, vaccine experts suggested that the agency require the pharmaceutical companies to hold larger and longer clinical trials for the younger age groups. A few said FDA should hold off on authorizing vaccination of younger children for up to a year or two.
Tumblr media
Interestingly, Lucien and his mother, Beth Clarke, of Rochester, New Hampshire, disagreed. Her son’s reaction was “odd,” she said, but “I’d rather him get a side effect [that doctors] can help with than get covid and possibly die. And he feels that way, which is more important. He thinks all his friends should get it.”
Data regarding covid’s impact on the young is somewhat messy, but at least 300 covid-related deaths and thousands of hospitalizations have been reported in children under 18, which makes covid’s toll as large or larger than any childhood disease for which a vaccine is currently available. The American Academy of Pediatrics wants children to receive the vaccine, assuming tests show it is safe.
But healthy people under 18 have generally not suffered major covid effects, and the number of serious cases among the young has tumbled as more adults become vaccinated. Unlike other pathogens, such as influenza, children are generally not infecting older, vulnerable adults. Under these circumstances, said Dr. Cody Meissner — who as chief of pediatric infectious diseases at Tufts consulted on Lucien’s case — the benefits of covid vaccination at this point may not outweigh the risks for children.
“We all want a pediatric vaccine, but I’m concerned about the safety issue,” Meissner told fellow advisory commission members last week. An Israeli study found a five- to 25-fold increase in the heart ailment among males ages 16-24 who were vaccinated with the Pfizer shot. Most recovered within a few weeks. Two deaths occurred in vaccinated men that don’t appear to have been linked to the vaccine.
Young people could experience long-term effects from the suspected vaccine side effect such as scarring, irregular heartbeat or even early heart failure, Meissner said, so it makes sense to wait until the gravity of the problem becomes clearer.
“Could the disease come back this fall? Sure. But the likelihood I think is pretty low. And our first mandate is do no harm,” he said.
Ross said the biggest pandemic threats to children that her ICU has witnessed are drug overdoses and mental illness brought on by the shutdown of normal life.
“Young children are not the vectors of disease, nor are they driving the spread of the epidemic,” Ross said. While eventually everyone should be vaccinated against covid, use of the vaccines should not be expanded to children without extensive safety data, she said.
The government could authorize childhood vaccination against covid without recommending it immediately, noted Dr. Eric Rubin, an advisory committee member who is editor-in-chief of the New England Journal of Medicine. “In September, when kids are back in school, people are indoors, and the vaccination rates are very low in certain parts of the country, who knows what things are going to look like? We may want this vaccine.”
Moderna and Pfizer this summer began testing their vaccines in younger kids. A Pfizer spokesperson said the company expects to give about 2,250 children ages 6 months-11 years vaccine as part of its trial; Moderna said it would vaccinate about 3,500 children in the 2-11 age range.
Some members of the FDA advisory committee proposed that up to 10,000 kids be included in each trial. But Marion Gruber, leader of the FDA’s vaccine regulatory office, pointed out that even trials that large wouldn’t necessarily detect a side effect as rare as myocarditis seems to be.
At some point, federal regulators and the public must decide how much risk they are willing to accept from vaccines versus the risk of a covid virus that continues to spread and mutate around the world, said Dr. Paul Offit, director of the Vaccine Education Center at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
“We’re going to need a highly vaccinated population for years or perhaps decades,” Offit said at the meeting. “It seems hard to imagine that we won’t have to vaccinate children going forward.”
Ross argued that it makes more sense to selectively vaccinate children who are most at-risk for serious covid disease, such as those who are obese or have diabetes. Yet even to raise questions about the vaccination program can be a freighted decision, she said. While authorities have a duty to speak frankly about the safety of vaccines, there is also a responsibility not to frighten the public in a way that discourages them from seeking protection.
A 10-day pause in the Johnson & Johnson vaccination campaign in April, while authorities investigated a link to an occasionally fatal blood-clotting disorder, led to a major decline in public confidence in that vaccine, although as of late May authorities had detected only 28 cases among 8.7 million U.S. recipients of the vaccine. Because of the declining appetite for the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, millions of doses are in danger of passing their use-by date in refrigerators around the country.
Focusing too much attention on potential harms from the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines for children could have a tragic result, said Dr. Saad Omer, director of the Yale Institute for Global Health and an expert on vaccine hesitancy. “Very soon we could be in a situation where we really need to vaccinate this population, but it will be too late because you’ve already given the message that we should not be doing it,” he said.
Eventually, perhaps next year, K-12 mandates might be called for, said Dr. Sean O’Leary, a professor of pediatric infectious diseases at the University of Colorado. “There’s so much misinformation and propaganda spreading that people are reticent to go there, to further poke the hornet’s nest,” he said. But once there is robust safety data for children, “when you think about it, there’s no logical or ethical reason why you wouldn’t.”

I managed to kick a small hornet’s nest the other day when I mentioned that marxists (and their ilk) need to have actual, concrete plans for ensuring that medical care (inclusive of all aspects, including pharmaceutical) isn’t disrupted during their revolution. Apparently, this is Too Much. It reminds me of how I literally wrote just a while ago why I prefer ‘decolonization’ over ‘revolutionary’…
Except, of course, there are a bunch of white radicals who think that their insistance that everyone fall in line with their pet ideology is somehow novel. So much so that I can get into a discussion ridiculous enough that some white br0cialist calls me an imperialist for critiquing Mao Zedong’s economic policies. Or the thrilling discussion with some white abled person calling me an ableist for using ‘disabled people’.
All of this, in the end, just ends up underscoring my point that decolonization not ‘revolution’ (as conceived by any white radical ideology) is what we need. In a very real way, only decolonization ensures that power gets redistributed to the people it ought to belong (the Indigenous ppls of the land I wrongfully occupy). Anything else, be it communism, anarchism, socialism, etc. really just leaves us with white ppl telling the rest of us what to do.
Better yet, it leaves us with long dead white men getting to structure an allegedly more just, fair, and good society. I’m not sure about anyone else, but after four hundred years, I’m pretty much over what any given dead white man has to say about good governance and economy. Look. These ppl had their chance. Both in terms of communism and capitalism and a lot of things between. They had their chance and they’ve all been dismal failures.
So yeah, as some pointed out, I don’t really have any idea of what would be better, but this doesn’t imply that we should pick something that we already know is garbage. I mean, if pressed, and I had to pick something as an alternative, I’d probably go with Confucianism. If I have to bet on a dead guy, I’m going with him.
But. Notice. Notice. Have you ever really heard any white radical ground their notion of revolution in the writings of anyone not a white man? I can’t think of a single one.
Why Confucianism? Well. As a structuring social and political philosophy, it has some definite problems. Still patriarchal. Sets up a monarchy as the head of state. So, yeah, really not ideal. However, it probably has the record for creating the longest lived and most stable society. We’re talking from 221 BC to 1911 AD.
So, yeah, in the absence of a good option, this is the bad option I’ll get behind. Maybe Confucianism with a socialist economy (since Confucianism doesn’t offer much in the way of economics so we have wiggle room there). At least with this political system, we’d have the right to revolt whenever the emperor loses the mandate of heaven.
(Anyway. I hope ppl realize this is kind of a joke. But I am doing it to highlight a point. Me throwing my lot in with Confucius is no more or less sensible than going with Marx. Both are dead men who have zero fucking clue as to the current state of affairs. The main difference – and its an important one – is that at least I’m an actual human being re: Confucianism. A barbarian to be sure, but human still. Can’t say the same for marx.)

Wackos in China, Lowe’s Gets Low, Inovio’s Got Flow
Wackos in China, Lowe’s Gets Low, Inovio’s Got Flow:
You Can Run on for a Long Time
Sooner or later, the market will cut you down.
Despite the foreboding song of the day, we’re not talking about doom and gloom again today. With all the floods, plagues, fires, swarms of locusts and murder hornets, I just couldn’t resist a reference to the man in black.
(Also, “Bingo!” for those of you playing Revelations 2020 bingo.)
We’ll also overlook President Trump’s “Some wacko in China…” tweet. Well, for now, at least. That zinger is sure to come up again when U.S.-China trade talks resume.
Today, dear readers, we’re talking about hope. You see, in spite of mountains of abysmal U.S. economic data, many businesses on Wall Street are thriving.
Retailers such as Walmart Inc. (NYSE: WMT), Lowe’s Companies Inc. (NYSE: LOW) and Target Corp. (NYSE: TGT) have emerged as unlikely standouts in the stay-at-home pandemic market.
First-quarter earnings results from these key retail players appear to hold up just fine — at least by the measures set by lowered analyst estimates.
If the Walmarts, Lowes and Targets of the world are doing fine, so too must the U.S. consumer.
And with states across the country reopening their economies, loosening travel curfews and relaxing gathering restrictions, those gains will continue to grow.
That appears to be Wall Street’s logic, anyway.
What’s more, vaccine hopes from Moderna Inc. (Nasdaq: MRNA) and Inovio Pharmaceuticals Inc. (Nasdaq: INO) bolster Wall Street’s confidence that the COVID-19 crisis will all be over soon.
Jim Paulsen, chief investment strategist at Leuthold Group, best summed up Wall Street’s hopes and dreams by saying: “Coupled with a virus headed into its weak summer season and vaccine trials in full go, perhaps the stock market could be supported by something other than liquidity injections and fiscal juice.”
In one statement, Paulsen (His name is Robert Paulson) admitted that the market is almost entirely supported by unlimited Fed stimulus and Wall Street’s belief that the crisis is almost over.
I mean, sure, we’ve had one pandemic outbreak, yes … but what about second pandemic outbreak?
I digress … we’re here to talk about hopes, dreams, rainbows and puppies.
After all, the market rallied again today. The Dow rallied roughly 300 points and is now knock, knock, knockin’ on a potential breakout to even greater gains — aka the 25,000 area. Will the market finally break out? Or will we reverse once again in a spectacular display of volatility?
Clutch your puppies close, this is still a bumpy ride.
If you want real optimism — and not that shiny “museum gift shop” optimism that wears off in a few days — look no further than Banyan Hill’s own Paul Mampilly!
Thousands of Great Stuff readers already cherish the research and insight in Paul’s Profits Unlimited newsletter. (Not you? Click here to join the “in” crowd!)
But Paul’s optimism for the market’s future knows no bounds. And he’s about to prove it with a special event where he’ll reveal his strategy to make money in any market.
The “300 Event” is next Tuesday, May 26 — online, of course — and Great Stuff wants to make sure you have a front-row seat for free. (Wait, aren’t all online seats front row? Quiet, you…)
You’ll see the details behind Paul’s all-weather strategy and how you could potentially see a 300% gain from a single stock.
Good: Just a Bit Outside
The retail giant beat Wall Street’s first-quarter earnings and revenue expectations. Target also received a fair amount of premarket hype surrounding its 141% surge in online sales, which helped boost same-store sales growth by 10.8%.
But everyone knows those targets were cut due to the pandemic. And when you get right down to it, earnings fell 61.4% year over year. Target also shelled out $500 million for safety measures, cleaning and higher pandemic wages.
The company also did not provide any guidance on the current quarter or the rest of the year. “There’s just so much uncertainty as I think about the balance of the year … Obviously we’re watching closely to see what happens from an economic standpoint,” CEO Brian Cornell told reporters.
That lack of certainty was more than enough to keep TGT bulls just a bit outside of today’s market rally.
Better: Get Lowe’s, Get Lowe’s, Get Lowe’s
Three, six, nine, stand real fine. Lowe’s earnings sock it to you one mo’ time.
To the window, to the wall, Lowe’s beat analyst expectations by a mile. First-quarter earnings came in at $1.77 per share on revenue of $19.68 billion. Wall Street was looking for $1.32 per share on $18.32 billion in sales.
Same-store sales spiked 11.2%. Online orders surged 80%. Gross margins expanded and fixed costs fell. And while the company didn’t offer guidance for the rest of the year, Lowe’s said that retail strength continued into May.
Take that, Home Depot Inc. (NYSE: HD).
LOW kicked off the day with a 5% gain, but profit-taking quickly gobbled up the day’s progress. The stock is up roughly 80% from its March lows, so many investors were probably eager to bank that cash. If you don’t hold LOW already, a continued contraction might be your opportunity.
Best: Inovio Too Slow-vio
And then there were two.
We’re talking vaccine contenders today, and Inovio just turned up the heat in its neck-and-neck race with Moderna.
One-time Great Stuff pick Inovio Pharmaceuticals announced today that “its COVID-19 vaccine candidate demonstrated neutralizing antibodies in animals,” namely mice and guinea pigs.
The results come from the biotech’s preclinical study … and right after Moderna already found positive phase 1 results. Inovio’s phase 1 clinical trials are also underway at the moment, but we won’t hear early data from that study until June.
Yes, Moderna beat Inovio to the phase 1 punch. But while Wall Street only focused on the “vaccine hope” side of the equation, I’m also making a note that the great biotech race just got a whole lot slimmer. Our two front-runners are here.
The one thing we can count on is that, no matter which company makes it to the market first … people will still get in a tizzy and call it a fake.
In last week’s Poll, we asked you about unlimited stimulus — and the problems that may follow.
While the majority of Great Stuff readers are eager to accept more gobs of cash, I’m proud that you also foresee the runaway effects of the brrrr-ing money printers.
With floods of new millennial cash at the ready … I can tell you with certainty that a hefty chunk of those stimulus checks landed right in the market, and the biotech sector in particular is blowing up big (obviously).
You’ll notice that we’ve been on a biotech binge — that is, if you’ve kept up with your Great Stuff this week! (It’s like Wheaties, but financially … nutritious?)
Heck, you and your fellow Great Stuff readers even took back-to-back triple-digit gains from the biotech and health care bonanza of the past few months!
So, that leads us to today’s Poll of the Week…
