The Creatures of the Garden of Ramshackle!

Since the Perfect has been dubbed a "Beast tamer" Who says they stop at one? Who said they have a choice? (Not the creatures, I'll tell you!) Now the forest behind Ramshackle is full of monsters ready to protect (Y/N) under any circumstances!

One little monster, that's what started this

Finding the poor thing half-dead under the porch of Ramshackle, well you couldn't just leave it there!

Although the protest of Grimm and the ghost warning you that it might not make it, the Perfect cleaned up and treated the monster.

Now what is this mystery creature you may ask? Well something that is known for hurting people! An Amarok! And a baby one at that

The little (well... She's the size of a full grown hound) pup tells the Perfect about some hunters that killed her mother and siblings in cold-blood, and how she was away from their den against her mother's words

Once the Perfect calms the crying cub (who's name they learn is Alasie) to sleep they go and see someone who would know what to do, and not freak out about it.

Mr.S! A man well versed in many things thanks to those friends of his.

After explaining to The Perfect what they found (and how lucky they where), he agreed to help them out. (By giving them a one time free deal and discounts to follow!)

Once little Alasie was back to full health and spirit, the residents of Ramshackle let her back out in the woods, though they intended for her to be independent... Well she had different ideas, staying on the front or back porch of Ramshackle protecting the magicless little human who helped her come back from death!

And that was the first monster (besides Grimm) who would seek The Perfect of Ramshackle!

Many monsters have come to seek out (Y/N) for help Tsunotaro

And even if The Perfect says they don't want anything in return, the monsters stay around simply because they like The perfect TSUNOTARO

Heres a quick list of scenarios that The Perfect had encountered

(Y/N) meets a Bluecap in a cave in the forest, and after being polite and making civil conversation with the little fae creature, they lead the Perfect to a vein of particularly valuable ore! As compensation for how lovely and nice the Perfect was to them. And now the sweet Bluecap hangs around out back of Ramshackle ready to lead (Y/N) in and out of caves!

The time (Y/N) was foraging in the forest to save some money and ran into a golem and homunculus combo. The two where abandoned by their creator and had no where to go and no idea what to do. Being the kind perfect, they invited them to the dorm! When a tiny wooden human and towering stone golem behind (Y/N), Grimm nearly passed out. The duo stay at Ramshackle now (They even have their own room!) And help out with any cleaning or heavy lifting the Perfect need! (The tiny homunculus sits on the golem's shoulder giving them simple commands so (Y/N) doesn't have to.

The forest is full of many beings. Bunyips that live in the river bed, Gnome's who's homes resemble a rabbit warren, Kelpies that wander the lakes, Will-o-Wisp who light up the dark overgrown paths, Swan Maidens who come around once a week for a dip in the lake, the sweet Dryad who lives in the big oak tree in the middle of the forest, and many, many more. The Ramshackle Perfect has met nearly all of them and have even received gifts from them.

A down coat and blanket made from the Swan Maidens own feathers, fresh flowers (enchanted to never wilt) and herbs grow personally by the Dryad, hand crafted goods befitted with gems gathered by the Gnomes, food, materials for repairs, and everything in between have shown up on Ramshackle's door step or given to (Y/N) by hand.

Maybe its the Perfect's kindness or strange charm, but not many creatures have made an attempt on their life

Many come to the Perfect for small problems or if they need wounds mended, but always give an object or favor in return

Grimm and the ghost don't know how or why the monsters are here, but hey! Extra help (and tuna) is always welcome.

The Ramshackle Perfect sure does have a way to make strong beings love them, huh?

Final Words From Muses...

So I had something pop in my head and I imagined what would each of my muses final words would be along with a sad prompt and theme. Prepare for some maximum feels. 

James’ Death.

OST: I’m Coming Home.

James’ philosophers stone was destroyed as he looked at nothing more but the sunset as his memories flashed through his mind from his past life to the memories of now. His body fading away bit by bit as he watched it all with tears in his eyes. 

“Big Brother... we’re all waiting for you...” Aria’s voice said causing the dying homunculus to smile as he closed his eyes peacefully.

“Aria...I’m Coming Home...”  James said as the rest of his body faded away to nothing but dust as the last tear he shed would drop onto a flower..

James Willow The Homunculus of Revenge.....was finally at peace and can rest.

Blades’ Death

OST: “Team BLCK Forever”

Blade who had fought every single battle with nothing more but his fists and weapons as he walked out of the Shades relic temple. Holding the sword of destruction after fighting Cinder and taking a blow from it. Seeing all of his friends smile at him including his own father and uncle who smiled as well. 

However, dread filled Louvels eyes when seeing Blade fall over to which everyones faces turned from relief and pride. To sorrow and worry.

With Kazura carefully turning over Blades body and for the first time Blade was actually dying.... he had fought battle after battle.. and had his near death moments.. however this time he was not going to get out of this one alive.  Simply being around his friends and family is what comforted the most as Louvel begged for his best friend not to die, Corona looking away as she was hiding her tears, Jack who lifted his son’s head to try and give him time and screaming for a medic, Kazura who was also shouting for the medics to hurry up , and Outsider who desperately was licking his wounds.

Finally the young stryker released a few grunts which caught Coronas attention as she turned around with her tear soaked face.

“T-T-Team.....BLCK.....forever.... now...and..always..” He said as his eyes glazed over and smiled as he passed away with Louvels tears falling down and Jack releasing a loud wail for his son screaming curses at the Gods for doing this to him.

Louvels Death

OST: Enlightenment Lies Ahead.

Louvel had done it. Odysseus was defeated... this time without a proper leadership everything should fall apart. However it did not come at a cost. The wolf faunus sat down while Blade and the others approached him.

Only for Louvel’s eyes to glaze over.... as he passed away he heard one last thing: “LOUVEL!!!!!!!” from none other  than a wailing Blade.

Waking up somewhere in a golden sky and a tree with many wolves looking at Louvel as one of them approached changing into the Traveler... the first of the Shinbaori.

“Welcome my descendant...” He said bowing as Louvel teared up. “I’m dead am I..” he said with tears flowing down his cheek... knowing that the Wolf spirit his semblance may have died as well with him. “Why do you cry Louvel? Do you not know that the Wolf Spirit is eternal... just like the Maidens the Wolf Spirit will travel and fuse together with someone else... and become one with them just as it always had been..no matter if it is passed down from generation to generation.” The Traveler spoke wiping away Louvel’s tears.

“Come little wolf... your ancestors await you..” He said smiling at him. Louvel on the other hand smiled in a calm manner... realizing how he was calmed by his ancestor...realizing that there would be his descendant next... he was ready and accepted it.

“True Enlightenment...lies ahead” He said walking to the large tree where the wolf faunus would meet his ancestors..

Corona’s Death

OST: The Final Flight

The Dark Eagle, Corona stumbled wounded by her long and arduous battle with the Spiders including Lil’ Miss Malachite as many saw her wounds... her bleeding from arms and legs even a stab wound that was bleeding out. Her parents watched their daughter limping to them as they teared up that she went that far... just for them. To be free from their debt. Blade, Louvel, Kazura and Outsider, watched their friend and close comrade limping to them as she was about to fall over. Corona’s father immediately caught her. “Corona... you did good... my daughter” He said tearing up. “I set you all free like little baby birds leaving a spiders web, Guys... keep.. on... going without me...” Corona said weakly pointing to the members of BLKOUT  who were tearing up as they all  approached and held her hand. “This....is...my...Final....Flight..” she said closing her eyes with a smile as she passed away. Kazura’s Death

OST: Until The End...

Seeing the waves of Grimm approaching the Atelier Prince, Kazura looked over at Salems castle aware that Teams BLCOUT, JNR, and RWBY were making their way to Salem Looking back at the army of Grimm charging at him. Kazura inhaled and exhaled grabbing Caliburn in its sword forme as he looked at all the beasts ranging from Grimm Raptors, Beringels, Beowolves, Gryphons, Manticores, Deathstalkers, and Goliaths all charging at him. 

To which he closed his eyes and thought of Actus, his home and his people, including his sister Serena.... as he whispered one thing.. “Until the end...” 

Charging right into the fray without slashing and cutting his way through the Grimm as he was punched by a Beringel shattering his damaged armor. Releasing a roar of pride and rage Kazura fought and fought...

A few hours after the battle with Salem, Everyone found the remnants of Kazura....his sword.... and not his body resting on top of a rock as if it was jammed in there...with Blade crying, Corona touching the sword as she took off her hat tearing up, Louvel who fell onto his knees with the gentle hand of Yang comforting him.  This was what a Prince’s true pride was made from...  Outsiders Death OST: I’ll...Miss...You...All... My... Friends..

After such a brutal battle with Theta.. and claiming leadership, he led his pack to a safe place where Outsider rested on the grass as his Grimm Raptor pack ran around Exaltia’s home where Outsider rested as team BLCK realized what was going to happen to him.  Blade petted his armored face as the raptor purred taking this moment of comfort with Louvel sitting next to him as well, alongside Corona and Kazura sitting with him with forelorn faces.  Finally Outsider looked at them all and simply felt at peace... and finally it came out: “Outsider... will... miss you... all... my... friends...” He said weakly closing his eyes as he faded away into nothingness... as all life begins and ends.. with a baby Grimm raptor who saw their new leader fading away and succumbing to his wounds and showing her.. that humans can understand grimm.. you just need to learn from them. The next generation named: Outsider Jr. was watching TEAM BLCK mourn as he went up to Coronas foot nuzzling it lightly. Marking a new generation began.

Odysseus’ Death

OST: My People Are Free...

A Leader has a beginning and an end, he has fought too many battles as a Leader, returning to the Ithaca clan as a hero was one thing for liberating so many faunus’ from the clutches of the SDC and showing Atlas that it was a force to be reckoned with.. however his wounds told a different story... walking to his old home that watched over the seas of Menagerie of the Ithaca clan where his father sat.

“Sienna, I know we have disagreed many times.. but I’ve done it.. Jacques Schnee is dead... the SDC is falling apart and the White Fang has claimed victory... I’m aware this is not what you wanted... but I hope it is what you wished for.” He said weakly looking at the sun as it slowly set. Closing his eyes and opening it up again... he saw Sienna smiling at him as she gently touched his face to which the pragmatic leader smiled. 

“My people are free,,,..” He said closing his eyes joining Sienna Khan as he passed away from his wounds... but in such a peaceful way. A boy who had become a man, and a man who had fallen to ashes returned from it to become a man once more. And a true man with morals, someone who cares about both sides, sees things differently, he becomes that of a hero.

Jack Strykers Death

OST: You Can Rest Now.

“Despite the odds being stacked against him and everything and having cybernetic legs. He completed his mission. Tired he sat down feeling the warmth of the Vacuan sun as Blade sat next to his wounded and dying father. “I guess this is it right dad” Blade said to his father looking at him tearfully as he finally got to see him for the first time in years. “Yeah.. listen.. I’m gonna say this to you my son. You’ve grown up so well... and your mother... has taught you well.. I feared my destiny so much.. and I’m so so sorry for leaving you and your mother...” He said tearing up weakly. “It’s ok pops.. I understand you were afraid of your past repeating itself.. and wanted to protect me and mom from it...” Blade said looking at his dying father.  Jack looked at the setting sun with such peace in his eyes, as he looked at his son who was crying as well. “Still can’t believe you were able to replicate my ridiculous haircut....” Jack stated weakly chuckling a bit and despite that Blade gets angry about his haircut being made fun of he only teared up even more knowing that was a compliment from his father.

“You Can Rest Now Soldier... you’ve done your duty..” Blade said as Jack nodded with his eyes glazing over as he closed his eyes as he sat there dead... with a smile on his face whilst Blade still wiped away his tears.

Any changes to Salem and her gang of minions in your ECHO AU

Parts of her faction are still in development, but I’m reasonably sure that I’ve got her core motivation and plan figured out.

Spoilers for Salem’s goals and such below the cut:

Salem’s primary goal is to reunite with Ozma... By destroying the barrier that separates the dead from the living. She believes that the Ozma who has been reincarnating into new bodies over the centuries is just some soul-homunculus that the Brothers created to torment her(and on some of Ozma’s worse days, he can’t help but wonder if this is actually true) and if she can’t reunite with the “real” one the normal way, then she’ll break what that separates them instead.

As for whether this is actually possible or not... Salem is convinced that she can accomplish her goal with the help of objects of power from the very entities who spited her to begin with: the Relics. In ECHO the Relics are capable of more than just their individual functions and summoning the Brothers. They can also be used in large and complicated magical spells to give effects a boost or increase complexity. An example of using the Relics like this is the creation of the Furies(the Maidens), when Ozma bound four seasonal spirits into mortal bodies to benefit mankind and keep them from destroying civilization. So Salem reasons that she use the Relics in order to increase the potency of her own massive spell.

This goal and Salem’s confidence that she can achieve it also means that she has little regard for any deaths that occur along the way--it won’t matter in the end, since the dead and living will reunite once the spell is cast.

Cinder’s backstory has been changed, though she still has the Dark Cinderella allusion. She was from an elite family in Atlas who fell from grace after crossing the Schnees, and everything she’s done has been her trying to claw back any speck of power and privilege she can. After meeting Salem she realized that she would be able to stand atop the world if she joined her, and she’ll be doing Salem’s bidding as long as it benefits her. She’ll also be a pretty direct rival to Weiss due to her backstory, so that part will be fun.

Hazel still lost Gretchen, but rather than focusing on Ozma for the purposes of vengeance, he’s carrying out Salem’s bidding because she promised him Gretchen’s return to the living world. Because of this, Hazel will also try to convince Ruby and Yang to join Salem as well after he finds out that they lost their mother; he’s unsuccessful, but this hints to the sisters that perhaps Hazel could be won over in turn since he’s willing to have a discussion at all.

Hazel’s semblance and general attitude have also been changed. His semblance allows him to numb not only himself but also others when he touches them, and is a sort of manifestation of his unwillingness to process and move on from Gretchen’s death, choosing to numb and ignore the pain instead. Hazel also acts as the emotional “heart” of Salem’s crew, smoothing over relations between members and using his semblance to numb pain where needed.

Watts is still a bastard, with personal vendetta against Pietro and Ironwood because they had a direct hand in his fall from grace(it also involves Penny’s development, so he doesn’t care for her either).

Tyrian... I’m still working on him, truth be told. He’s still going to be a Salem fanatic.

Along with her little council, Salem also has followers among the civilian population. They stay hidden for the most part, and their reasons for joining her vary: some do it for protection from the grimm, others because like Tyrian they see her as a divine being, some do it for power...

There’s a lot more that I haven’t covered here, but this is the general rundown of what I have so far.

CotIG and RWBY

So...I had this long post...but it became too prone to tangents and really wasn’t getting anything close to what one may call a ‘point’ across, so here’s some thoughts in no particular order concerning CotIG and the web series RWBY. Not exactly CotIG related, but Hank Morgan from his original source (being a Weapons manufacturer) would be an excellent fit for the RWBY universe. You could have him run some weapons company, carry simple revolvers (which probably won’t transform into anything?) and where a white suit in reference to Twain and fit the usual white color scheme associated with Atlas. The thought occurred to me of whether or not the first theme song , This Will be the Day, would fit for primarily Rose. Probably not? But either way it’s a cool song. Here’s a link. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Tb1_93M8SXA Cool song either way. I imagine Poe and Professor Ozpin would have plenty to talk about were they to meet. Like imagining Dee and the Cabal interacting with the Homunculus, it would be interesting to see them interact with some of the Villains (later ones at least) of RWBY. Especially given the apparent differing goals. How the Echthroi seek order, while the Creatures of Grimm are the more ‘Always Chaotic Evil’ sort. Then again, I’ve generally found most of RWBY’s villains to be pretty weak. Cool yes, but overall weak. If Crossovers were to be a thing, I imagine it’d be of the Transplant variety (putting CotIG characters into RWBY), or the Interdimensional Shenanigans sort. Although I must admit I’ve attempted to think how it would crossover but the main difficulty is due to RWBY (generally) being quite an action oriented show. I imagine Rose could do quite well with Caliburn, Laura Glue would likely fair pretty well....but everyone else....difficult to imagine. If it were Dimensional Shenanigans, I imagine it’d be the Young Magicians (although Fred would be...how to work with Fred in that context...) would be involved, a Messenger, and Charles, Houdini, Doyle and some forth person who can actually leave Tamerlane House.... One thing that’s interesting is none of the Historical characters exist in the RWBY universe (which makes people recognizing Charles, albeit by a different name probably, all the more amazing). I imagine Rose Dyson and Ruby Rose would get along pretty well. But then again, I think Rose probably would get along well with just about anyone barring some exceptions of course. Although a duel between Rose and the members of Teams RWBY and JNPR would be interesting. Quite interesting. One on one duels of course. Especially Weiss and Jaune, since...just Swords really. I digress I think it’d be fun...It would just be a question (as it always is) of how to go about it. I just realized something. There’s a good chance my fellow Scowlers have no freaking clue what RWBY is, and those who follow RWBY stuff (barring perhaps two exceptions I know of) may have no idea what CotIG is. So this must seem like a lot more no nonsense then usual And I’m terrible at explaining things. Uh...Tv Tropes and Wikipedia. They should be of help? And to my fellow Scowlers you...hm...I’m not sure whether or not to recommend RWBY. I enjoy it despite its flaws (and there are quite few some may find as flaws), but others may dislike. Similarly to how a friend of mine understandably doesn’t give a Flying Fig for CotIG. Hm. Recommend or not? Recommend? Or not? Tricky tricky. I suppose if you care to, the whole series as it presently (five volumes) is available on YouTube. First volume (season really) is only about an hour all together. I forget if it’s still on Netflix or not. So....maybe watch it? I can’t say if you’ll enjoy it or not. I can only say I find it enjoyable if flawed. I’ll note, the animation.....takes getting used to, but it certainly improves as time goes on. And one should not judge the voice acting of the show from the voice acting in the Black and Yellow trailers. But yeah, probably the Interdimensional Shenanigans thing in part of CotIG characters (perhaps Rose is trying to Practice Interdimensional Travel with some new Messengers and bam, ends up in Remnant. I don’t know. I’m no great fic Writer). I digress. Make of this what you will. Al, the Chronographing Cottager.

I know we have next to no info about her, but if you had to say, what would be you theory for what Salem is? I've seen everything from Humanoid Grimm, to Human-Grimm hybrid, to a witch that specializes in Grimm magic. What would be your best guess at the moment?

i mean i’ve posited before that Salem and Ozpin, due to them clearly knowing each other and both have evidently been around a long long time and are potentially ancient, that they might belong to an ancient (but far more advanced) humanoid precursor species to humanity and that they’ve just got different methods of preserving themselves after their own people died out and humanity was still infantile - Ozpin by bodyhopping from human to human and Salem by… whatever she’s done to herself - Grimm magic or whatever

but yeah, there’s a lot we don’t know, like why Salem and Ozpin are so antagonistic towards each other, how much of the two separate parts of a creation myth we got from each of them (Salem’s at the beginning of the show and Ozpin’s during volume 4) accurately reflect history and how much is just broad strokes, and so making guesswork in any direction is kind of futile until we learn more - i mean for all we know, Ozpin was unintentionally involved in the creation of the Grimm with Salem as the first, and she’s just proliferated since, like the Homunculus to his Hohenheim, to borrow from FMA (though Salem often talks in a way that seems to suggest she’s been around since before Ozpin, so i dunno). but we don’t know, and until we learn more there are gonna be a lot of directions we can speculate

I just finished Impyrium by Henry H Neff and I’m gonna talk about it because I have a lot of feelings so spoiler warning

-I completely forgot the demon’s conditions for the Red Winter Treaty so I saw the Prusian Sea on the map and I was like “huh I wonder what the crafty bastard did to get an ocean named after him” and then I got to the line about underwater demon kingdoms and I was like THAT’S RIGHT THEY BANISHED HIM TO THE SEA and of course he still managed to go make himself a successful kingdom like ffs Prusias just enjoy retirement.

-Sigga Fenn is my new favorite character. What a bro. I mean yeah she played Hob like a panther stalking a rabbit and absolutely would have killed him in an instant and we don’t still know what her exact orders are but there are times when she does seem to be as sincere and friendly as she can professionally be and like honestly it’s nice to have such a chill agent. Disguising herself as the old lady was hilarious like that was so unnecessary Sigga you didn’t have to steal her dessert

-I love the dynamics between the triplets. Isabel is great.

-homunculus breeding is fascinating oh my god

-”Hazel saw that Harkün had also drawn a dagger with a wavy black blade” TFW you’re such a die-hard Cooper fan you can recognize his weapon 3000 years later

-speaking of the devil, I hope that Mystic with mismatched eyes was a descendant of who I think she was because please imagine Hazel Cooper’s reaction to finding her greatx3k granddaughter gambling with a domovoi

-Like. I know Prime is not going to turn out to be Cooper but there’s a tiny part of my sappy fangirl heart going, “if anyone were to volunteer themselves to be turned into a statue for all eternity to protect Rowan it would probably be him”

-Hob’s sass is beautiful can he give me lessons

-THERE WILL ALWAYS BE SHROPES COOKING AT ROWAN

-I love the quotes at the start of the chapters, not only did they bring more meaning to the chapters but they also provided some context and backstory, like how old David lived to be.

-Honestly Hazel’s mentality was so unapologetically realistic like she was so innocent and oblivious but then she started learning things and I love her revelations that she can take control of her own life. But like she was still allowed to be delicate and cry and sleep with a stuffed giraffe and it wasn’t depicted as weakness.

-I will be forever be impressed at the all the political webs Henry weaves

-Montague’s character development

-I wonder what Ember really did with Mina like did he really eat her or is she chillin in his mouth under the sea

-The two perspectives were so great and it was awesome because you can’t trust the Fellowship and you can’t trust the royals, you can only trust that the main characters themselves will see the faults of their respective sides and make the right decisions. I love how they opened each other’s eyes to new things.

-It’s so cool because The Tapestry was so heavily based in Irish mythology and now Impyrium is based in Tapestry mythology like the original series became the mythology of the new series, which means that our world is part of that mythology. I remember Henry saying something about how The Tapestry was partially a story about human perseverance and that really spoke to me in some parts of this book too. That ancient, scratched-up, barely-working Disney film was so unsettling but so wonderful. Burke’s line about “would you believe we lowly little humans once walked on the moon?” The part where the Fellowship is explaining about how humans once built flying ships and split matter to its smallest components without any magic, just with the sheer power of their minds. It’s inspiring. And it was interesting seeing that different perspective of the destruction of the Book of Thoth, like we were just starting to explore the heavens themselves and then that technology was taken away from us. But like it said, at least we’re still walking on the Earth. It’s surreal reading this and realizing that in this book we are the ancient civilizations. Much of our history is either not known at all or considered a nonsensical fairy tale. But Disney films and the Brothers Grimm tales still exist. Stories persevere, no matter how rare or expensive or illegal they may become. Getting even more meta, it’s just like the stories of the original series becoming the mythology of this one. Stories stick around, no matter how much they may change, and apparently the same applies to humanity.

-I would love to talk to someone who read Impyrium without reading The Tapestry first and find out what that realization was like, when it suddenly dawned on them that this had once been our world.

-It’s also really interesting and kind of funny seeing the empress and the princesses have the whole week-long pilgrimage and put themselves through such physical and mental duress to go worship this mysterious scary god-king from another world when those of us who have read The Tapestry know that this all-powerful warrior is the same guy who got repeatedly bossed around by a talking goose and once used magic to leap 20 feet in the air because he got startled by a robot centipede. The Hound of Rowan, everybody. One thing I always admired about Max’s character was that no matter how much he grew and changed the core of his personality, his kindness and his humor, stayed the same (and even when he went full supernova god in the Workshop he was still able to keep from destroying everybody because of the love he felt for his friends). And I’m glad that even just from that little glimpse we got of him we can see that he still holds that same personality, that he was so eager to help this teenage girl that he forgot about the FATAL WOUND that would literally kill him if he went through the gate like Max never change

-I was not expecting this story to give me so many Max feels like I thought I was over the end of The Red Winter but apparently not. I actually laughed when they brought out the lyrmrills as offerings because it was so beautifully nostalgic and sentimental but also like, what else would it be? The man loves his lymrills.

-Speaking of Max getting bossed around by Hannah I seem to remember her saying she was immortal at the end of The Red Winter so are she and her goslings still wandering around the Direwoods oh god

-Again it must be such a different experience reading this without the context of the first series because that whole Direwoods field trip was kind of a punch in the gut. I remember in The Hound of Rowan reading about the abandoned charges wandering the Sanctuary and forgetting that humans ever cared for them and I thought that was so sad and now the entire Sanctuary is like that. The Sanctuary was such a beacon of hope and peace and now it’s just a creepy haunted forest where little rich kids are afraid to get their feet dirty. Who knows how long selkies live, that could have been Frigga or Helga in the lagoon being so glad to have some humans to play with again. And the ruins of the Warming Lodge and the dvergar brother’s forge. Dude that one classroom had Nile Croakers and domovoi and stuff in cages and the selkies were described as “water beasts” like that was so sad it feels so wrong and it’s such a good representation of how the culture has changed

-Like honestly it’s just such a message about the nature of history. It reminds me of Church’s monologue from the end of season 13 of Red vs Blue, where he talked about the hero never getting to know if his sacrifice was worth it. Max didn’t know what became of his friends or the world he left behind presumably until David’s death (and don’t think I don’t have a fanfic idea about that), and then Max and David and everyone presumably don’t really know what became of their world 3000 years later, like they know the gate and the dragon exist and they know about the Faeregines coming on pilgrimage every few years, but I guess they probably don’t know much beyond that. They never get to see the long-lasting effects of their efforts, and they don’t get to know the perspectives with which people view them and the legends they’ve become. They didn’t want Rowan to become a place for snobby elites, and they didn’t want nonmagical people to be discriminated against, but they can’t do anything about it. Because we can act to change our history, but in the long run we never know how our stories will end up being told. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t take action to better our world for the present and the foreseeable future.

-I love all the subtle parallels, intentional or not, between this story and The Tapestry. Kids sneaking out at night for a sleepover on a ship, kids sneaking out for a duel. A man losing his face. Workshop specimens getting stolen. Being betrayed by a friend (honestly, I didn’t suspect Viktor at all until he suggested that they collect firewood and then my mind immediately went to Rolf and Connor for some reason even though there was no real connection). The illustration of Hob outside Hazel’s tent with the House Blade next to the fire reminded me so much of Cooper sneaking into Max’s tent with the poisoned Atropos blade, and it was Scathach the shadow who saved Max and Sigga the shadow who saved Hazel and Hob. History repeats itself. No matter how much some things change, some things still repeat.

-Olly was such a great character, like he had flaws but he acknowledged and apologized for them and he was so great. Sniff.

-Seriously Sigga is that teacher who’s like “I know you’re going though a lot so I’m going to conveniently forget to close the submission box until a while after the due date so I won’t know if you turned the homework in late but if I do catch you turning it in late I gotta fail you sorry”

-Also can we talk about the fact that Ember apparently fell in love with Astaroth’s hell dragon that he conjured from dead people like oh my god Ember plz you guys almost killed each other

-I feel like remember Henry saying something about us eventually getting to hear more about the grymholch from Prusias’s arena and the world it was from and I hope that happens
