Transform Your Bathroom with Stunning Wall Tiles
Bathroom renovations are always exciting, but choosing the right wall tiles can be a daunting task. If you're looking to transform your bathroom with stunning wall tiles, you're in the right place. In this blog, we will be discussing bathroom wall tiles and the latest design trends for 2023. We will also be discussing the benefits of using large format tiles, how to choose the right grout colour, and the pros and cons of different types of bathroom wall tiles. So, whether you're doing a complete bathroom renovation or just updating your bathroom wall tiles, read on to find out how you can transform your bathroom with stunning wall tiles in Perth.
How to Choose the Right Grout Color for Your Bathroom Wall Tiles
Choosing the right grout colour is just as important as choosing the right tiles for your bathroom walls. A grout colour that complements the tile can enhance the overall look of your bathroom, while the wrong grout colour can make the tiles stand negatively.
Here are some tips to help you choose the right grout colour for your bathroom wall tiles:
Consider the colour of your tiles. If you have highlight-colours, choose a grout colour that is a shade darker than the tiles. If you have dark-coloured tiles, choose a grout colour that is a shade lighter than the tiles.
Choose a grout colour that matches the undertones of your tiles. For example, if your tiles have warm undertones, choose a grout colour with warm undertones.
If you want to make a statement, choose a contrasting grout colour. For example, if you have white tiles, choose a black grout colour.
Top Bathroom Wall Tile Design Trends for 2023
Now let's take a look at the top bathroom wall tile design trends for 2023. These design trends are sure to transform your bathroom into a luxurious oasis.
Bold Geometric Shapes:
Using geometric shapes is a great way to add interest and depth to your bathroom walls. Hexagonal tiles are a popular choice, but you can also experiment with other shapes like diamonds, triangles, and parallelograms.
Natural Stone Tiles:
Natural stone tiles have been around for centuries, but they're making a comeback in a big way. Stone tiles like marble and slate add a touch of luxury and sophistication to your bathroom.
Ceramic Tiles:
Ceramic tiles are a classic choice for bathroom walls. They're durable, easy to clean and come in a wide range of colours and designs.
Large Format Tiles:
Large-format tiles are becoming increasingly popular in bathrooms. They create a seamless look and are perfect for modern, minimalist bathrooms.
Using Geometric Shapes to Add Interest to Your Bathroom Wall Tiles
Geometric shapes are a popular trend in bathroom wall tile design and for good reason. They add interest, depth, and texture to your walls. Here are some ways you can use geometric shapes to transform your bathroom walls:
Create a feature wall:
Use geometric tiles to create a feature wall in your bathroom. This can be a wall behind the vanity, the shower, or the bathtub.
Mix and match:
Mix and match different geometric shapes to create a unique pattern on your walls. This is a great way to add interest to your bathroom without overwhelming the space.
Contrast colours:
Use contrasting colours to make the geometric shapes stand out. For example, if you have white tiles, use black or grey geometric tiles.
The Benefits of Using Large Format Tiles in Your Bathroom
Large format tiles are a popular trend in bathroom design and for good reason. They offer several benefits that make them a great choice for bathroom walls.
Here are some of the benefits of using large-format tiles in your bathroom:
Fewer Grout Lines
Large format tiles are typically larger than traditional tiles, which means you need fewer of them to cover the same amount of wall space. This, in turn, means there are fewer grout lines. Grout lines can be a breeding ground for mould and mildew, which is a common problem in bathrooms. With fewer grout lines, you reduce the risk of these problems occurring.
A Seamless Look
When you use large format tiles, you can achieve a seamless look on your bathroom walls. Because there are fewer grout lines, the tiles can blend seamlessly, creating a cohesive and modern look.
Easy Maintenance
As mentioned, large format tiles have fewer grout lines, which makes them easier to clean and maintain. You can simply wipe them down with a damp cloth and mild cleaning solution, and they will look as good as new.
The Illusion of Space
Large format tiles can create the illusion of space in a small bathroom. When you use small tiles, it can make the room feel busy and cluttered. However, when you use large format tiles, it can make the room feel more spacious and open.
DIY Bathroom Wall Tile Repair: Fixing Cracks and Chips
As much as we would like our bathroom wall tiles to stay in pristine condition, accidents can happen, causing cracks and chips on the tiles. While it may seem like a daunting task to repair them, with the right tools and materials, you can do it yourself. Here's how:
Assess the Damage:
Take a close look at the damaged tile and surrounding tiles to determine the extent of the damage. If it's just a small chip, you may be able to repair it easily. However, if the crack is too large or the tile is completely broken, you will need to replace it entirely.
Gather the Materials:
For small repairs, you'll need some tile adhesive, a putty knife, and some tile grout. If you need to replace the tile, you'll need a replacement tile, a grout saw, and a hammer.
Clean the Area:
Before you begin any repairs, make sure the area is clean and dry. Use a damp cloth to wipe down the tile and surrounding area.
Repair Small Chips:
For small chips, use the putty knife to apply the tile adhesive to the damaged area. Smooth it out with the putty knife, making sure it is level with the surrounding tiles. Let the adhesive dry completely, then apply a small amount of grout over the repaired area with the putty knife.
Replace Broken Tiles:
To replace a broken tile, use a grout saw to remove the grout around the damaged tile. Be careful not to damage the surrounding tiles. Once the grout is removed, use the hammer to carefully break the tile into small pieces. Remove the pieces and clean the area.
Install the Replacement Tile:
Apply tile adhesive to the back of the replacement tile and carefully place it in the space. Use spacers to keep the tile level with the surrounding tiles. Allow the adhesive to dry completely, then apply grout around the new tile with the putty knife.
Let It Dry:
Once the repair is complete, allow the adhesive and grout to dry completely before using the shower or bath.
Repairing cracked or chipped bathroom wall tiles can be a bit of a challenge, but with the right tools and a little patience, you can fix them yourself. Just be sure to take your time and follow the steps carefully to ensure a successful repair.
The Pros and Cons of Using Different Types of Bathroom Wall Tiles
Choosing the right type of bathroom wall tiles can make all the difference in your bathroom renovation project. Here are the pros and cons of using different types of bathroom wall tiles, including ceramic, porcelain, and natural stone tiles.
Ceramic Tiles:
Pros:
Affordable and readily available
Versatile in terms of design and style
Easy to install, making them a great option for DIY enthusiasts
Cons:
Not as durable as other types of tiles
Prone to chipping and cracking over time
Can fade or discolour over time
Porcelain Tiles:
Pros:
Durable and resistant to water damage
Low-maintenance and easy to clean
Resistant to stains and scratches
Cons:
More expensive than ceramic tiles
Requires professional tile installation
Can be difficult to cut and install due to their density
Natural Stone Tiles:
Pros:
Adds a luxurious touch to any bathroom
Unique variations in each tile create a one-of-a-kind look
Durable and long-lasting
Cons:
More expensive than other types of tiles
Requires professional tile installation
The porous surface can stain and require regular sealing
Well, each type of bathroom wall tile has its pros and cons. Consider your budget, style preferences, and maintenance needs when choosing the right bathroom wall tiles for your project. If you are based in Perth, be sure to consult with a local tile expert to find the best options for your specific needs.

have you ever written a thing and had no idea where it was gonna go because you didn’t actually have a plan and then you were somehow still surprised (but pleasantly) at where it ended up anyway? yeah, me too. this is super short, just a little slice-of-life domestic maxiel moment.
They’re at the farm in Perth, nowhere to be and nothing to do for ten full days before they have to head back to Milton Keynes for the start of testing. They spend the first night sitting on the back porch, sharing a frankly terrible delivery pizza and a bottle of Daniel’s shiraz- out of disposable paper cups because Daniel can’t be bothered to unearth his actual wine glasses and because Max always claims the taste is the same as in proper glass anyway. They go to bed early, too jet lagged to do anything more than share a kiss goodnight and cuddle together under the quilt that Daniel’s nonna had given him when he’d first moved to Italy- a small reminder of home. Nowadays, the quilt stays on the farm, a reminder that this, actually, is home.
In the morning, Daniel awakens to a streak of sunlight shining brightly across his face. The quilt is thrown haphazardly across the foot of the bed, kicked off during the night as the warmth of the Australian summer melted across them in sleep. He stretches big and yawns, scratching lightly at the peach fuzz on his lower belly that he’s finally allowing to grow back in. The giant antique clock on the wall across from the window (his mum had made him buy it- said he needed some kind of interior decoration in his place, and Buffalo Bills merch emblazoned with Josh Allen’s name didn’t count) tells him that it’s just after ten. He reaches out a hand: the other side of the bed feels cool- Max must have been up for a while already.
With a groan, and a refusal to acknowledge that hopping out of bed at 35 involves much more moaning and creaking knees than it did at 22, Daniel gets up and stumbles his way towards the living room. He follows the faint sound of Dutch cursing and an even fainter whiff of coffee. Max hates coffee- says it makes him gag- but whenever he’s up first, he makes Daniel a cup exactly the way he likes it, with the tiniest splash of creamer and an even tinier bit of sugar.
He rounds the corner to the living room and sees the source of the cursing. Max has set up his Playstation and is in the middle of a FIFA match.
“Honestly, Daniel, they’re terrible. Look at this,” Max says crossly, waving his hand at the TV in a gesture that Daniel takes to be an all encompassing indicator of terribleness. “How can they be so bad?”
He’s not even looking in Daniel’s direction; the sofa faces away from the passageway to the back of the house. It’s one of the things Daniel loves about him. Max doesn’t need any preamble to a conversation. He knows that if he starts, Daniel will simply catch up.
Daniel shrugs, climbs over the back of the sofa to plop comfortably next to Max. “Dunno, Maxy. Can’t all be rockstars like you.”
Max glances at him quickly, a small frown in his brow as he assesses in an instant whether he thinks Daniel is teasing him, warring with a smile at the inherent compliment anyway. “Yeah, well, of course it takes lots of practice. Maybe they are just not putting in the time.”
“Maybe so,” Daniel agrees. He leans over to grab the cup of coffee that Max had made for him and takes a sip- perfect as always. He sinks a bit lower into the couch, getting comfortable. “Any plans for the day? Other than kicking some randos' arses in FIFA?”
“I though that we could—” Max cuts himself off to interject a string of cursing in Dutch as his player onscreen clearly does something other than what he’d intended. He mashes at the controller furiously, and a moment later, Daniel sees the screen light up with a goal. Max nods, satisfied, and continues “maybe invite Isaac and Isabella to spend the day here. Always, you’re talking about wanting to take them out on the dirt bikes. We can do that together.”
Daniel nods. “Sounds good. I’ll give Michelle a call- maybe we can swing by and pick them up. Say hi to Mum and Dad on the way.”
Max is already absorbed back into his game, but when Daniel stands to go grab his phone (slightly less groaning as he stands from the couch, no less knee creaking), Max reaches out a quick hand to squeeze his thigh gently. “Good morning, by the way.”
Daniel smiles. “Good morning, baby,” he says, and leans over to peck Max lightly on the lips.

I was completely unprepared for the interior of this 1990s 5 bd. 2ba home in Jennapullin, WA, Australia. $499K. The description says it was "painstakingly crafted from the ground up by our visionary client who sought to blend the past with the present." Nah, this is a WTH House.
The realtor says, "Prepare to be captivated as you step into a world where magic and charm intertwine." So we enter. Uhhh. Okay...it's huge, but it does look like a DIY job. There are 14 stunning chandeliers, all sourced from Government House- you can see some of them in the hall.
What is up with the carpeting? It looks like he bought a bunch of area rugs on clearance. Forget the carpet in this house, it's too big for that- just roll it up. The columns are 150 year old dragon columns obtained from Foo Lok Restaurant.
It goes on to say, "the epitome of extraordinary living! If you're tired of cookie-cutter homes and crave a dash of pizzazz, sprinkled with oodles of character, then this property is your dream come true."
I'm speechless. It's gigantic and the ceiling looks like a bowling alley's. But the pressed tin formerly adorned the ceilings of houses and hotels throughout Perth. So, this is the main living area with kitchen. But, why does it look like the decor isn't secure- the ceiling looks to be peeling off. The phoenixes once graced the dining hall of the Hills Street Chinese restaurant.
Look at the proportion of that exhaust hood to the double sized stove. That's a commercial exhaust, but it's way too big. I kind of like the touch of fancy framing around the windows and the large black tiles.
Now, this could've been elegant, but it's grimy looking, not well crafted, and appears to be falling apart in places.
He tried to make an elegant bath, but everything looks so grubby. Of this, the realtor says, "Picture this: fixtures and fittings lovingly sourced from iconic buildings scattered throughout our vibrant State of WA."
So, he fashioned a double sink, but the counter is just a 2"x4" (see the knot in the wood coming thru?) with gold taps in the wall, exposed old pipe, and ornate metal grates on each side. The floor looks like remnants and the panels don't fit flush around the tub.
More pieced area rugs in the primary bedroom. There's some sort of pattern in the floor under those carpets. Maybe it was some kind of sports facility, but apparently he bought the tiles at auction.
Here's the 2nd bath. Mirror looks like it's shimmed up to be flat against the wall. Don't like any of this, with the possible exception of the floor and tub.
He must've gotten some deal on these rugs.
In this 1/2 bath, he fashioned an unusual sink. Clearly, he doesn't understand the concept of a pair of curtains, b/c the windows all look to be adorned with a single stretched panel.
Here's another bedroom with silk curtains that previously hung in the Melbourne Hotel, hangin' like rags. It all just looks like a real hack job, though. He bought nice stuff, but the execution sucks.
He tried, bought some cool architectural salvage, but he just wasn't able to pull it all off. Here's a cute sink, but what's going on underneath?
Even the pool looks DIY with corrugated metal.
10.29 acres.
The property's pretty messy, though.
There's a creek, too. The whole thing really needs work. Maybe a new owner can make something nice out of it, but it will take a lot of money. To me it looks like a knockdown.

What about 31 💕
We already answered this one but then Alex had an idea and, well…oops.
April 2023
When Dan came in from some of the farm chores he stretched, muscles glad of the exercise. It’s not that he’d gotten lazy since he’d lost his seat - far from it - but throwing bales of hay around and fixing a fence used different muscles than a workout. Yeah he hired people to do it, but while he and Em were there before they went on their honeymoon and he had to do more sim work in Milton Keynes he wanted to get involved.
Michael was standing by one of the bookshelves, looking at the framed photos Em had put on them. They were from when she’d started travelling with them all, photos of the four of them together. The only McLaren one was after the win in Monza, Em in the champagne soaked first place hat while she held the trophy, Dan’s arms wrapped around her as they grinned. There were newer ones too - Em and Charlie when they had a girls night with Chloe the week before the wedding, Charlie and Blake on a double date with Em and Dan. The one he loved the most of Em with Isaac and Isabella, three bright grins from Christmas. He loved every single one of them.
“Charlie sure fit in neatly with the three of you.” His tone was poison and Dan did a double take at it. “I’m surprised she wasn’t Em’s bridesmaid.”
“Em wanted her to be. But Charlie knew that we were only doing one person each, and Blake didn’t want to be a groomsman as well as walk Emmy down the aisle. It was her family’s farm that we had the wedding on.”
“Oh.” Dan took a slow breath, waiting for the next question. “How well do you know her?”
“Pretty well. She’s a good friend, her and Blake are good together. She makes him happy. Speaking of partners, where’s your girlfriend? Is she back up at the hotel?” It was weird for him that Michael chose to stay in Perth rather than on the farm, but his girlfriend didn’t seem to enjoy how rural it was, so it made sense.
“Yeah, she’s sightseeing. Where’s Em?”
“Charlie’s folks with Charlie and Blake. She needed to pick up the decorations and what’s left of our wedding cake. Apparently we need to freeze it and eat it on our first anniversary.”
“That won’t fit in the race diet plan.”
“I’ll make it fit.”
It never used to be this weird between them. Michael was the one person who he trusted since he was a kid and whispered “I’m gonna drive in Formula One one day.” when they had a sleepover. As soon as he’d finished his personal training course it was a no brainer that he wanted to get Michael to England. It was the four of them. Em had been part of his racing life longer than Michael had, really. But now there was a gap that he didn’t know how to bridge for them.
“I’m just gonna ask this out. Why do you trust Charlie? You never trust anyone, but you just let her into your home? Be your friend? Why?”
“Cause she’s Charlie. It’s like…it’s hard to explain but she and Blake are solid. Her family live another couple of miles up the road and are great. Her little brother is racing mad but he treats me like a normal person. Plus she’s normal. She works with kids in foster care, she makes the world better.”
“She sounds too good to be true.”
“You said that about Em once.” Dan still remembered where they were when he said it. Sitting in this same room at Christmas 2017, he’d just sent Em a photo of the setting sun and she’d replied with a bundled up couch selfie. He’d mentioned how he met Em and Michael had said those exact words.
“I just don’t want Blake being taken advantage of.”
“He lives with his girlfriend who has a PhD and won’t let him pay rent because he’s not there all the time. He’s fine. They’re fine. Why are you like this?” The question hung in the air for a moment.
“I don’t trust her. She looks exactly the same as Em, magically appears in your life the same way Em did, and I’m expected to think it’s an accident? Lightning doesn’t strike twice. You got lucky with Em.”
“Got lucky? How?”
“You don’t want me to answer that. But you just said, Charlie has a PhD. What is she expecting Blake to pay off her student loans? I thought he was smarter than that to fall for a gold digger.”
“So my wife is one?” The mood in the room was venomous. Dan was aware this wasn’t going to end well. It couldn’t end well. But he couldn’t stop.
“We know Em. She’s not.”
“I paid off her student loans in 2019. It was her birthday present. So if I paid off her loans when we hadn’t even said I love you, that means my wife is one. Right?”
“I did-“
“And for the record, Charlie’s the one who offered to sign an NDA. To keep mine and Em’s privacy. The same way Em offered to. But you…answer this, ok? One question.”
They were on opposite sides of the room and Dan wanted to move Michael away from the photos. Away from his family. This wasn’t a feeling he’d ever had about his best friend before. It was wrong.
“What is it?”
“When did you start having feelings for my wife?” It was like Michael had been physically hit, stepping back at Dan’s words. “I had an idea from your reaction in China but I ignored it. Because god she picked me. We were together. But the way you’re ignoring the double standards? How you acted after you found her? Even your reaction when we told you we were engaged. When did you fall in love with her?”
“Nothing happened, mate. Nothing. It doesn’t matter.”
“But it does! You’re her brother. She loves you so much as a brother. You’re my brother and I ignored how you acted cause I didn’t want to admit it. And then you point out how Blake and Charlie are moving quickly and say this shit about Charlie and you don’t even recognise that it was exactly the same for me and Em. After my birthday I spent every night I was in London with her unless there was a really good reason. It’s two faced and for once Blake is happy can’t you let him be? Cause right now it’s coming across that you’re jealous and bitter and that’s not you.”
“She’s too good to be true! He doesn’t date and all of a sudden they’re together? He’s gonna get hurt and she’s gonna fleece him and run off. I watched you ignore Em in public and she left. She wasn’t gonna come back until we made her. And now there’s the new woman who looks like Em who claims she’s fallen in love with Blake. You did your fucking wedding at her parents place. She’s using him!”
“Who’s using who?” Dan hadn’t noticed the back door open, Blake walking in. “Em and Charlie are saddling up the horses, Em said they need to be exercised and Charlie hasn’t gone riding in a couple of weeks cause of work. What’s happening?”
“Of course she fucking rides too.”
“Huh?” Blake’s confusion was clear and Dan had to step in.
“Mike was worried, he was saying some stuff. It’s fine.”
“No, I meant what I said. I don’t know what she’s doing but I don’t trust her and I think you’re an idiot if you do. She’s gonna use you and you won’t make it and she’ll break your heart.”
“Get out.” Dan didn’t even realise what he was saying until the words were out. “Get the fuck out of my house. We supported you through everything. All of it. We invited your girlfriend to our wedding. I ignored how you act around Em, how you’ve always acted around her. I put it aside because she adores you. But you met Charlie once. God she…you weren’t here. You didn’t see how Em and I were after Christmas. We were broken. And Charlie was there and she helped us get our shit together. She helped organise our wedding and you called her a gold digger and think she’s gonna hurt Blake? So no. Get out until you can realise how wrong you are.”
“That’s my girlfriend. I’m gonna marry her. It’s ridiculous and insane but how. You didn’t say this to me.” The upset in Blake’s voice was clear.
“You wouldn’t listen. The same way when I was telling Dan he shouldn’t be focusing on Em and should have focused on his career he didn’t.”
“Just go. And for the record, we will make it. I believe in her.”
Dan watched one of his oldest friends leave his home, staring at Michael’s broad back as he walked away. He was gone. And even with the sadness there was still relief.
